Preliminary Task look back
1. Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to the full
product?
2. Story Board/Planning
With our preliminary task we didn’t have enough time to fully sit down
and plan what we wanted to achieve, which I believe was a large
downfall to why our preliminary task wasn’t as successful as hoped. So
we learnt from this mistake and made sure that we had completely
planned out what our final project was to look like.
This resulted in us creating a story board for our thriller opening
because we wanted to see how our ideas were going to look like when
laid out in front of us.
3. Mistakes in our Preliminary
As seen in the picture the door handle is positioned on the left
whereas when we used match on action the door handle now
appears on the right side of the door.
This error in our filming was due to our group not taking the
time before hand to organise locations to film, which lead to us
having to change setting mid way through filming.
This was a big fault in the filming of our preliminary, if we
took time before hand to prepare the setting we wanted
our prelim to be filmed in we would have realized that by
having a class change over at 2:15 we were going to be
distributed by the other children in school at that time.
4. Camera Shots
As this was the first time filming for my
group and myself we were unable to use a
wide variety of camera shots, in
comparison to our final product. In our
preliminary we used different shots such
as match on action, over the shoulder
shot and long shots. After seeing how our
preliminary tuned out we were
encouraged to look into different type of
camera shots we could use for our final
cut as we knew it was vital to make our
film opening believable and professional.
Match on action
Consists of
connecting 2 shots
together in which a
character finishes off
an action in the
second shot that was
started in the first
one, which we
performed
successfully.
Over the shoulder
shot
The perspective or
camera angle from
the shoulder of
another person.
Long Shot
Usually a long shot is
introduced into
establishing shot of the
movie which is why we
wanted to ensure that it
was used immediately.
5. Improvements in our opening
Long Shot
Usually a long
shot is
introduced into
establishing
shot of the
movie which is
why we wanted
to ensure that it
was used
immediately
Close-up
Shows very little background, and concentrates on either a face, or a
specific detail of mise-en-scène. Everything else is just a blur in the
background. This shot magnifies the object and shows the importance of
things, be it words written on paper, or the expression on someone's
face.
Extreme Close up
The picture is tightly framed and shown at a
relatively large scale. An very artificial shot used
for dramatic effect.
