Evaluation
This is my evaluation for my unit 9 photo work. I decided to base my exhibition on 6 different types
of photo techniques, landscape, macro, fashion, portrait, sport and wildlife, because I find them
effective and interesting. My inspiration came from a magazine called thrasher magazine. I was
inspired by this because they produce amazing action shots of skateboarding.
The equipment I used to create my photos includes: a cannon 600D/1100D, a Samsung galaxy s3
mini, two guitars, Dan, karne and a skateboard. I used the black and white tool for the picture below
because I hadn’t used it before and I thought it would be a good tool to use with this image .
I really liked this unit because I was able to get outside and take images of things that other people
wouldn’t look twice at. Also I think that this unit went really well because I managed to get
all of my work done on time without being behind on any of my work. Some of the photos I
took were difficult to take for example, my wildlife photo of a honey bee, in the process of
taking this photo I was stung multiple times due to the fact I was standing right next to the
nest to get a clear shot of a bee collecting pollen.
I used the black and white tool to select the flower that the bee was resting on so that the bee was
in colour and the rest of the photo was in black and white creating an effect where the bee stands
out from the rest of the photo.
Although I really liked this unit there were some aspects that I did not like, for example trying to find
a good macro picture was really difficult because I really wanted to get a water droplet falling off a
branch or a building. But I wasn’t able to capture any of these images due to the fact that the timing
of each droplet was different and the speeds that they dropped were almost impossible to capture.
I ended up with a macro picture of multiple water droplets on a sign.
I do like this photo because of the effect from the different size droplets on the black and white sign,
but at the same time it’s not what I had hoped for. I didn’t edit this photo because I felt that it didn’t
need any and that it was fine how it was. I was lucky with this photo because right after I took it the
sun came out and the sign was dry within two minutes.
My landscape picture I love because it shows an orange sky from where the sun is setting over
Brighton pier. Taking the photo was difficult because I didn’t have access to a school camera I had to
use my phone, and the camera on that is quite bad because it’s from a digital phone. But it turned
out perfectly
I really like the contrast of colour between the dark shadows from where I was standing compared
to the bright orange and yellow around the pier, also you can see the light reflecting of the sea and
the top of the arcade on the pier. I was very fortunate to have spent the day in Brighton and to have
taken this photo as I was about to leave.
I think taking these photos has improved me as a photographer because I have learnt about the
different shots and how to put the camera into different settings such as macro.
If I did this project again I would take all of my images using the cameras provided by school not my
phone.
