The document discusses the relationship between osteoporosis and diabetes. It summarizes that studies have shown diabetes is associated with weaker bone structures due to abnormal insulin levels and their anabolic effects on bone. The document outlines a prospective study conducted to compare the number of trabeculae per square millimeter in digital intraoral periapical radiographs between diabetic and non-diabetic males over age 40. The results found significantly fewer trabeculae in diabetics, indicating weaker bone structure. The study also found greater crestal bone loss in diabetics and a correlation between age and bone loss.

Did You Know?
The incidence of hip fracture is 1 woman to 1 man in India
Know more such facts and useful information on prevention of Osteoporosis.
Everything you should know about Osteoporosis?
What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a disorder of bones characterized by low bone density and a deterioration of bone micro- architecture that enhances bone fragility and increases the risk of fracture
Osteoporosis becomes a serious health threat for aging men & postmenopausal women by predisposing them to an increased risk of fracture
Do you know that?
Osteoporosis is responsible for >1.5 million vertebral and non-vertebral fractures per year
Spine, hip, and wrist fractures are most common.
Join Dr. Joy Wu as she discusses the potential therapeutic approaches to age-related bone loss.
Osteoporosis is one of the most common degenerative diseases of aging. Half of adult women and one-quarter of adult men can expect to sustain an osteoporosis-related fracture. While current approaches to the treatment of osteoporosis can lower the risk of fracture, there is still no cure. In this webinar, Dr. Wu reviews the pathophysiology of bone loss with aging, in particular the imbalance between bone formation by osteoblasts and bone resorption by osteoclasts. She discusses stem cell sources of osteoblasts, anabolic signaling pathways, and targeting inflammation and senescence.
Key Topics Include:
- Describe how bone formation and resorption are coupled and regulate bone mass
- Describe factors that contribute to aging-related bone loss
- Discuss benefits and limitations of current osteoporosis therapies

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Osteoporosis And Diabetes: A Match Made
From Hell
Osteoporosis -bones become
less dense- more likely to
fracture.
Studies have shown that diabetes is definitely associated with
having weaker bone structures.. …….
More than 50 years since Drs. Albright and Reifenstein
demonstrated that diabetes could be associated with loss of
bone mass.
Diabetes -disorder of
metabolism
Insulin -anabolic effects on
bone - abnormal insulin levels

Osteocalcin
Markers of bone resorption
Insulin-like growth factors
Reduced numbers of osteoblasts
Increasing serum osteocalcin after glycemic control in diabetic men.
