• In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I feel with my music based magazine I have followed the conventions of a real
media product. The reason which I feel this is because when researching into
typical ‘cheesy pop’ genre of music magazine I analyzed what was the typical
format, text, colours, artists and stories used within them and then took it all
into consideration. I ensured my magazine had an eye catching look to it,
making the title large text with effects on the C of ‘Chartz’ to make it stand out
even more. Also by the way I used bright colours such as blue, pink, purple,
yellow, orange and green it made the magazine sub-headings and titles which
would appeal my audience in a range of ways as it keeps the magazine looking
quirky and fresh. Another aspect which I feel makes my magazine fit the
conventions of a typical music magazine is the model choices which I had,
having them inspire Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and One Direction for the main
images, this shows the range of pop icons and pop bands which are loved by
my target audience, by having this particular artists it makes my magazine
even more appealing since it includes typical boy band images which will be
respected and loved by the audience of teenage girls which I am aiming for.
Overall, I feel my magazine represents this particular media product
                                     positively.
• How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The main social group which my magazine represents is typical girly kind of
young girls who would be interested in the artists represented in this magazine
and the information provided since that is the main social group which I aimed
towards with the use of boy bands and inspiration pop icons such as Lady Gaga
which young teenage girls look up to and aim to be like due to her inspirational
group of ‘Monsters’ and showing them how to succeed in life with the way she
                              connects with her fans.
Another typical social group which could be represented through the choice of
models is white ethnicity girls, by using only white female artists throughout my
magazine and white male artists through my magazine instead of getting
someone to impersonate a Asian or Dark ethnicity such as Beyonce or the band
JLS, if I had chose to have a range of ethnicities throughout my magazine I feel I
could of represented a wider social group instead of just one, meaning this
might effect who buys my magazine or peoples opinions of my magazine not
that it was my purpose aim to do this I just researched into the most popular
boy bands and more inspirational female pop artists.
Furthermore, I feel that my magazine mainly aims towards one social group of
young teenage girls due to the fact they are usually the sort of audience which
appeal most to the genre of magazine which I chose to work with.
What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and
                                  why?

I feel the media institution which would distribute my media product is something
along the lines of the sort of institutions which provide us with the pop magazines
which we have in this day and age.
Using the advertisement methods they have I feel they could help widely with the
advertisement of my magazine and would make it a moderate success.
With the professional aspect they hold I feel they would enjoy the entertainment
value which my magazine holds, with the boy band interview of One Direction
been quirky and what typical young boys would talk like together I feel that this
would create a young, hip look which they would like as an aspect of my magazine.
In addition to this, I also feel the use of artists throughout my magazine fits well
with the sort of magazines they usually distribute meaning that they would be
happy to put my magazine on shelves due to the wide range of information, facts
and images which my magazine has of such a wide selection of artists and bands.
Also, the layout and presentation and colour scheme throughout my magazine
stays precise throughout, making it look professional and keeping it feminine and
fitting to the audience which they target towards.
Who would be the audience for your media product?

I know that the audience for my magazine would be teenage girls ranging from the
ages of 12-16. I know this because of the use of artists, information and the typical
layout and genre of this magazine.
By including information on artists such as Beyonce, Rizzle Kicks, Rihanna, One
Direction, JLS, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga this represents my magazine as a large
pop icon magazine which usually attracts this audience, showing experience and
profession by having it not as the first addition of my magazine released and having
such large artists and bands within it would also attract this audience as it makes
the magazine a lot more appealing and interesting instead of holding artist which
they would find dull and boring who they may not have known.
Moreover, having the text fonts which I have with the effects such as the leopard
print C on the title of Chartz and Contents makes it a lot more feminine and aimed
towards this typical female audience as the colour pink and leopard print are
usually related to females and not males, showing it may attract them even more.
Also, with the use of effects on my sub-headings and titles it makes it eye-catching
and quirky following the young, hip look throughout the magazine so that.
By keeping the prize of my magazine at such an average price and not too over
priced means that it allows my target audience to be able to afford this magazine
which will also appeal to them.
How did you attract/address your audience?

Before producing my magazine, I ensured I gathered enough information and facts
on what my target audience typically wanted in a magazine they would purchase, by
creating things such as the questionnaire, also I chose to research into magazines to
a similar genre of mine and see the typical layout, bands and information included
throughout and what they did to connect with the audience such as competitions
and creating a website. After gathering all my audiences opinions and information
which I needed to produce my magazine I began to put it together including aspects
which I knew would attract my audience such as posters of boy bands, how to be
like particular artists, how to win certain prizes such as gig tickets or other prizes.
By creating a more personal effect to my magazine it made it more appealing to my
audience as they would feel they could connect and put their own input into the
magazine by putting reviews and entering competitions through the website which
I have provided on my magazine.
Also, with my magazine I ensured the colour scheme throughout stayed quirky,
upbeat, girly and trendy to make it even more appealing to the young audience
which I aimed for, using the main colours of pink and purple a lot this gave my
magazine a feminine vibe which made it connect with my audience even more.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
                                       product?
Throughout producing my product I have used a few different technologies such
as Photoshop, SlideShare and the blog system provided by my school to back up
                                       my work.
With Photoshop my skills have improved dramatically such as the use of effects,
how to place an image on top of another, how to change the effect of colouring,
how to place it in a magazine format etc. By knowing these skills, it helped me
create a professional looking magazine which I needed for my coursework and
will help me in the future for my media work.
With SlideShare, I learnt how to upload my presentations and link them to my
personal school blog to provide a range of ways of presenting my work on my
blog, by learning these skills it helped my blog have more of a range of
information instead of just blocks of text which I know will help my final grade
                                        overall.
With my blog, the technologies which I have learnt through providing evidence
of my magazine and the photos which I displayed through it, I have learnt how
to create categories, add YouTube videos, presentations and images which
means my work will have a wide variety of different forms of information to
provide both entertainment and knowledge through my blog.
• Looking back at your preliminary, what do you feel you have learnt
from it to the full product?
From my preliminary task, I feel that I have learnt a wide range of skills which I
have improved and took through to my main task.
Such as Photoshop skills, having little knowledge of Photoshop when starting my
preliminary task and building up my skills through learning the basic aspects of
Photoshop, it helped me go even wider with the variety of effects I had on my main
task, by learning how to neatly cut and paste photos onto my magazine it helped
make it look more professional and to a higher standard than it did in my
preliminary task, which I feel is a valuable skill to learn when doing media A levels.
Another aspect which I feel I have learnt from my preliminary task is how to take
photographs more professionally, with my preliminary task I mainly took only a
few with little preparation and originality through them, but by gaining skills with
the camera and learning how to position my models to make them look more
professional and fit in more with the genre of the magazine. Also, with the use of
makeup and clothing which I used. Since In the preliminary task I could only have
them in uniform, when moving onto the main task I researched into what the
artists looked like and put it so my models looked as much like them as they could.
Such as with the Lady Gaga impersonation I looked at the makeup styles and
fashion which she had, and represented this through my model to make her fit
more with the magazine genre and make it look more like a professional
                                     photograph.
Overall I feel my main task has fit with the target audience which I was
aiming for and that I have created a magazine which fits with the genre I
was aiming towards. By gaining so many skills throughout the
production of this media product I feel this will help me even further with
my media work and further use of Photoshop.

Evaluation of media magazine music

  • 1.
  • 2. • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? I feel with my music based magazine I have followed the conventions of a real media product. The reason which I feel this is because when researching into typical ‘cheesy pop’ genre of music magazine I analyzed what was the typical format, text, colours, artists and stories used within them and then took it all into consideration. I ensured my magazine had an eye catching look to it, making the title large text with effects on the C of ‘Chartz’ to make it stand out even more. Also by the way I used bright colours such as blue, pink, purple, yellow, orange and green it made the magazine sub-headings and titles which would appeal my audience in a range of ways as it keeps the magazine looking quirky and fresh. Another aspect which I feel makes my magazine fit the conventions of a typical music magazine is the model choices which I had, having them inspire Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and One Direction for the main images, this shows the range of pop icons and pop bands which are loved by my target audience, by having this particular artists it makes my magazine even more appealing since it includes typical boy band images which will be respected and loved by the audience of teenage girls which I am aiming for. Overall, I feel my magazine represents this particular media product positively.
  • 3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The main social group which my magazine represents is typical girly kind of young girls who would be interested in the artists represented in this magazine and the information provided since that is the main social group which I aimed towards with the use of boy bands and inspiration pop icons such as Lady Gaga which young teenage girls look up to and aim to be like due to her inspirational group of ‘Monsters’ and showing them how to succeed in life with the way she connects with her fans. Another typical social group which could be represented through the choice of models is white ethnicity girls, by using only white female artists throughout my magazine and white male artists through my magazine instead of getting someone to impersonate a Asian or Dark ethnicity such as Beyonce or the band JLS, if I had chose to have a range of ethnicities throughout my magazine I feel I could of represented a wider social group instead of just one, meaning this might effect who buys my magazine or peoples opinions of my magazine not that it was my purpose aim to do this I just researched into the most popular boy bands and more inspirational female pop artists. Furthermore, I feel that my magazine mainly aims towards one social group of young teenage girls due to the fact they are usually the sort of audience which appeal most to the genre of magazine which I chose to work with.
  • 4. What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and why? I feel the media institution which would distribute my media product is something along the lines of the sort of institutions which provide us with the pop magazines which we have in this day and age. Using the advertisement methods they have I feel they could help widely with the advertisement of my magazine and would make it a moderate success. With the professional aspect they hold I feel they would enjoy the entertainment value which my magazine holds, with the boy band interview of One Direction been quirky and what typical young boys would talk like together I feel that this would create a young, hip look which they would like as an aspect of my magazine. In addition to this, I also feel the use of artists throughout my magazine fits well with the sort of magazines they usually distribute meaning that they would be happy to put my magazine on shelves due to the wide range of information, facts and images which my magazine has of such a wide selection of artists and bands. Also, the layout and presentation and colour scheme throughout my magazine stays precise throughout, making it look professional and keeping it feminine and fitting to the audience which they target towards.
  • 5. Who would be the audience for your media product? I know that the audience for my magazine would be teenage girls ranging from the ages of 12-16. I know this because of the use of artists, information and the typical layout and genre of this magazine. By including information on artists such as Beyonce, Rizzle Kicks, Rihanna, One Direction, JLS, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga this represents my magazine as a large pop icon magazine which usually attracts this audience, showing experience and profession by having it not as the first addition of my magazine released and having such large artists and bands within it would also attract this audience as it makes the magazine a lot more appealing and interesting instead of holding artist which they would find dull and boring who they may not have known. Moreover, having the text fonts which I have with the effects such as the leopard print C on the title of Chartz and Contents makes it a lot more feminine and aimed towards this typical female audience as the colour pink and leopard print are usually related to females and not males, showing it may attract them even more. Also, with the use of effects on my sub-headings and titles it makes it eye-catching and quirky following the young, hip look throughout the magazine so that. By keeping the prize of my magazine at such an average price and not too over priced means that it allows my target audience to be able to afford this magazine which will also appeal to them.
  • 6. How did you attract/address your audience? Before producing my magazine, I ensured I gathered enough information and facts on what my target audience typically wanted in a magazine they would purchase, by creating things such as the questionnaire, also I chose to research into magazines to a similar genre of mine and see the typical layout, bands and information included throughout and what they did to connect with the audience such as competitions and creating a website. After gathering all my audiences opinions and information which I needed to produce my magazine I began to put it together including aspects which I knew would attract my audience such as posters of boy bands, how to be like particular artists, how to win certain prizes such as gig tickets or other prizes. By creating a more personal effect to my magazine it made it more appealing to my audience as they would feel they could connect and put their own input into the magazine by putting reviews and entering competitions through the website which I have provided on my magazine. Also, with my magazine I ensured the colour scheme throughout stayed quirky, upbeat, girly and trendy to make it even more appealing to the young audience which I aimed for, using the main colours of pink and purple a lot this gave my magazine a feminine vibe which made it connect with my audience even more.
  • 7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Throughout producing my product I have used a few different technologies such as Photoshop, SlideShare and the blog system provided by my school to back up my work. With Photoshop my skills have improved dramatically such as the use of effects, how to place an image on top of another, how to change the effect of colouring, how to place it in a magazine format etc. By knowing these skills, it helped me create a professional looking magazine which I needed for my coursework and will help me in the future for my media work. With SlideShare, I learnt how to upload my presentations and link them to my personal school blog to provide a range of ways of presenting my work on my blog, by learning these skills it helped my blog have more of a range of information instead of just blocks of text which I know will help my final grade overall. With my blog, the technologies which I have learnt through providing evidence of my magazine and the photos which I displayed through it, I have learnt how to create categories, add YouTube videos, presentations and images which means my work will have a wide variety of different forms of information to provide both entertainment and knowledge through my blog.
  • 8. Looking back at your preliminary, what do you feel you have learnt from it to the full product? From my preliminary task, I feel that I have learnt a wide range of skills which I have improved and took through to my main task. Such as Photoshop skills, having little knowledge of Photoshop when starting my preliminary task and building up my skills through learning the basic aspects of Photoshop, it helped me go even wider with the variety of effects I had on my main task, by learning how to neatly cut and paste photos onto my magazine it helped make it look more professional and to a higher standard than it did in my preliminary task, which I feel is a valuable skill to learn when doing media A levels. Another aspect which I feel I have learnt from my preliminary task is how to take photographs more professionally, with my preliminary task I mainly took only a few with little preparation and originality through them, but by gaining skills with the camera and learning how to position my models to make them look more professional and fit in more with the genre of the magazine. Also, with the use of makeup and clothing which I used. Since In the preliminary task I could only have them in uniform, when moving onto the main task I researched into what the artists looked like and put it so my models looked as much like them as they could. Such as with the Lady Gaga impersonation I looked at the makeup styles and fashion which she had, and represented this through my model to make her fit more with the magazine genre and make it look more like a professional photograph.
  • 9. Overall I feel my main task has fit with the target audience which I was aiming for and that I have created a magazine which fits with the genre I was aiming towards. By gaining so many skills throughout the production of this media product I feel this will help me even further with my media work and further use of Photoshop.
