2. Introduction
The song we used for our music video was ‘The Ballad of Mona
Lisa’ by Panic at The Disco!. The band is very alternative, with
a very original theme, therefore it was vital for us to get the
right conventions to suit the song.
We used a variety of Panic at the Disco's music videos to gain
an idea of the style of music video they produce, as well as
other bands of the same or similar genres such as blink 182 and
fall out boy, to see which conventions are common and which
are unique to the band

3. Using Conventions
Panic at the Disco! Generally dress
very formally, in either suits and
ties, or in steampunk style clothing
(such as the hat and outfit in their
own music video for ‘The Ballad of
Mona Lisa’
We decided to keep this for our
music video and Digipak, showing
the band in formal clothing. This
brings over a similar feel to our
music video, showing a sinister side
of order.

4. Setting
Breaking conventions
For our setting, we decided to shoot the music video in John
Cabot Academy and my own house. This changes a lot from the
original version, which was shot in an olden style church.
However, it keeps the same effect of order going wrong, as the quiet and
normal academy gets its own spark of chaos throughout the video.

5. Storyline
Using Conventions
Our storyline consists of a young boy waking up to attend a job
interview. He is haunted by a mysterious girl, dressed in strange
attire, almost like a puppet, and a strange man looking very
identical to himself. He is then caught by them at his Job
interview, and despite his futile efforts to escape, transforms
into the man stalking him
Panic’s videos always seem to have a element of discord in a normal
world, which I believe our music follows, though in a more modern setting.

6. Shot Types
Throughout our music video, most of the shots we used were
either close or mid shot. Expression was a hug part of our
video, showing the protagonists fear at certain points, the
antagonist's evil smiles, and the performers facial expressions.
Even the longer shots were still compacted together, allowing
no room for much else. I believe Panic also follow this
convention, showing different scenes in close detail rather
than having establishing shots.

7. One particular idea we used
during our music video
was the stair
performance
scenes, featuring in the
band’s music video and
our music video. I believe
this was a important
convention to follow, not
only showing the artists
power by his height, but
by also his facial
expression and
confidence
