Working Together to Improve Road Safety in South CarolinaBert Louthian
Despite common knowledge and awareness of vehicle accidents on our roads, the problem is getting worse in South Carolina. While other states are working to improve safety for citizens, we continue to drop the ball.
South Carolina is now tied with West Virginia with the highest traffic fatality rate in the nation.
Information covered includes data regarding most dangerous roads, common accident causes, and recommended changes to safety laws.

MADD Hawaii: Chief Robert L. Ticer - Meeting the Challenge when Marijuana is ...MADD Hawaii
Chief Ticer presented at MADD Hawaii's Drugs & Driving, A Call to Action conference in Oct. of 2018. He has been on the front line of impact since 2013 when Colorado passed a Constitutional Amendment to allow recreational marijuana. He spoke about the road to recreational, the challenges for law enforcement and traffic statistics relating to drugs and driving. He spoke in depth about law enforcement training that works and is needed. He also shared information about how partnerships are imperative for education about and prevention of impaired driving. His list of lessons learned is a good list of recommendations for Hawaii.
Drug and alcohol addiction develops over time, but it often comes with copious warning signs before casual use grows into full-blown addiction. Even before a person uses, there are many signs that could indicate a person is more likely to fall into abusive patterns of drug use. While risk factors don’t necessarily mean that addiction is inevitable, it’s important for individuals to be aware of their risk level so their behavior will be more informed if they choose to engage in drug use. Watch our slide show for information and statistics about drug and alcohol abuse risk factors.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).
1. No, The legal drinking age should not
be lowered to 18.
2. Introduction:
-Each year over 250,000 people die from
sickness by alcohol.
-Over 50,000 people get alcohol poisoning.
-Each year over 40,000 babies are born with
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
I believe it should NOT be
lowered because drunk driving
accidents would double due to
more legal drinkers. Over 40% of
car accidents are due to drunk
driving of adults over the legal
drinking age of 21 already.
3 main points:
-The practices and behaviors of 18 year olds
are particularly influential on a younger
population.
-There is already enough ignorant people
over the legal drinking age.
-Many people die each year due to alcohol
These two beautiful young women
related incidents.
were killed in a car accident due to
a drunk driver who was over the
legal drinking age.
3. -In fact researchers suggests that lowering the drinking age
will make alcohol more available to younger kids.
-If 18 year olds get the “Okay” to drink,
They will be modeling drinking for younger teens.
4. -Drinking and driving kills 3,000 teens each year. That’s
10 teens everyday.
-Over 15,000 adults are killed each year due to alcohol
related symptoms. That’s 1 adult every 20 minutes.
-Each year over 40,000 babies are born with FADS(Fetal
Alcohol Down Syndrome).
5. Alcohol goes directly into the bloodstream , physically
affecting the whole body. Some other illnesses and health
problems cause by alcohol are:
-Hangovers, High blood pressure, Weight gain, and
Depressed immune system.
-Cancer, Liver disease, Alcohol poisoning, Heart or
respiratory failure.

NOT be lowered!
