The document summarizes Connor Wake's evaluation of a poster project intended to raise awareness about obesity. Connor tested different variations of the poster using techniques like photo effects, drawing tools, and color adjustments. The final outcome included 3 large posters featuring digitally edited photos with effects to depict junk food in a fun but awareness-raising way. Connor felt the final posters fit the intended purpose of generating discussion about healthier food choices.
2. In this unit i intend to produce a poster to go on a wall in manchester, the poster
will be about avoiding and awareness on obesity. I will try this in different
variations and with different effects then will see what one i like the best and use
that. I will also produce different ways on showing my awareness, this will include
one person on a page, and army as i call it and also on a poster or stickers to see
what works well together.
What i intend to do
3. Techniques i used
This will make people aware and i will have junk food on people's head to do this. I
used many techniques to do this, these were first hand resources, photography,
photo effects such as posterized and other picture effects to see the difference
between them. I also used the brush, shape and pen tool to test out different
variations too. As well as this i used the eraser tool to clean up my work and also
used different colours to yet again see what works the best and what produces the
best outcome.
4. Did i use mixed media or digital?
For my work i used mixed media. I used this because i thought it would be best to
test all different techniques before i produce my final piece. The different mixed
media i will use it photographs, drawings, digital, editing on the photos too. This
brings out the best outcome for my work as it is trying all variations to see what
works the best with my work.
5. Inspiration
Inspiration for my work came from banksy's tv heads. This inspired me as it is the
style i want to do as it is posterized and looks clean and crisp. I also like this as it
covers the same sort of issue i want to make aware as it is a strong message but
mine will be about junk food, not about television.
6. What were the development stages
My development stages was trying different image effects and different ways of
producing the poster. I started out by doing this with drawings, then with a photo
on drawing, photo on photo, then all paintbrush digitally. After this i picked the best
variation that was photo on photo that i took and added different image effects on
this. This included posterizing the work, putting a threshold on, using the gradient
map and then using things in the image gallery such as pastels etc. the best was i
found this to be was posterized, however threshold worked really well too.
7. What tools and software did i use.
The software i used for this work was photoshop where i put the ‘food army’
together but i based most of my work on illustrator where i am most comfortable.
The main tools i used is the effect gallery, pen tool, brush tool and rectangle tool.
As well as this i used equipment for me to hand draw things such as rulers and
pencils.
8. Original outcome why?
My idea was sort of my original idea. I say sort of as i initially made an army of
junk food people but for my final outcome i have 3 big life size posters that have
effects so this is not my original outcome but it is close too it.
9. Has it fit the purpose of what i intended.
The work i produced did fit the outcome i intended as it generates a fun way to
make people aware of junk food sending the message that junk food is all we think
about when people mention food but that there is healthier food around what is
just as good as junk food. I think this purpose and message is generated as when
people see my poster they will see this message and is good and works well.
