3. Positioned at the top of my magazine is a strapline which consists of six key words which pin point what the magazine can offer.
These words are in bold and are separated by full stops to highlight that they’re different topics. The ‘She’ magazine alsobegins with
a strapline across the top of their magazine however they decided to use two sentences and incorporated deals as lures as opposed
to my use of it to introduce the magazine. On my actual cover I used a rectangle behind the text to highlight the whole strapline
whereas the professional magazine didn’t – I didn’t include this idea in my initial plan as when I did create the strapline I knew I
needed something to emphasise the strapline more. However, I did stick to my drafts in the sense that I used punctuation to divide
the listed words and used bold and capitals.
On my plan I failed to include a price – this I realised when creating the magazine – but I did incorporate one in to top right hand
corner of the magazine. However, I cannot see a price visible on the professional magazine. My price is clearly visible andaffordable
for my target audience – college students both genders . I have positioned the price in the corner as it is likely to poke out and
seeing a good price will immediately catch the audiences eye
My masthead consists of two words ‘college’ and ‘bizz’ The font I pick was Gill sans ultra bold and Lucida calligraphy – The ‘College’
is straight and bold whereas the ‘bizz’ is at a downwards angle and has cartoon stars behind it. This is similar to my initial plan
however I planned for ‘college’ to have further images around it but when creating the magazine I decided to abort this idea. The
professional magazine uses one word as their masthead ‘She’ It takes up half of the top of the magazine and is bold and in similar
font to mine.
Another convention we have both included is a colour scheme– I chose red, black and white and they’ve chosen green, pink and
black mainly – they used colours to show they’re genre and

5. Both mine and their magazine includes additional images on the contents page – as planned I included three images along the
bottom of the contents – but the change from my plan to my draft is that I added the main image on the cover onto the contents
in the right hand corner to show consistency. I’ve noticed that the professional magazine and mine have used medium shot
images to feature on the contents – I believe the purpose of this was to showcase what the models are doing, their appearance,
their emotions etc... In comparison to the other magazine I have bordered my images to make them pop out more and make the
layout more defined and also following this convention. I noticed the other magazine only used picture of females denoting it is a
female targeted magazine also all involving them playing sports so the genre is clearly shown. I involved both genders – to show
it’s a unisex magazine and I didn’t have them do a particular activity since it’s a general magazine.
I decided to include social media links on the contents page however the other magazine chose to not included these icons –
although this isn’t a major convention I feel it enhanced the publicity of the magazine itself. Initially I never planned to
incorporate the social media links but I realised when creating the contents page that it was needed and would benefit my
magazine.
I followed the convention of including a contents title at the top of the page, in bold and clear like the professional magazine. It
is important to label the page as a contents page as it is a vital page as it is one which helps to navigate the users. Therefore, it is
important that I had positioned it at the top and in bold to assure the viewers.
Page references is a convention which must be followed to navigate the viewers around and I can confirm I defiantly did this as
did the other magazine. We both chose to use a different colour to the majority of the contents page to highlight the page
numbers as it can be considered the most important element of this page.
In terms of colour scheme we both stuck to three colours I find it important not to overwhelm the audience with colours and a
three colour combination is a common feature used on magazine.
