What had I done
Having not touched much on the thriller genre before, it was key I used this time to go more in-depth on the genre, and how
different people express their ideas and feelings around this sometimes sensitive area, and what not better way than to
explore 3 well known individuals in the film industry, director David Fincher, director Guillermo Del Toro, and filmographer
Thomas Hodge; more specifically looking at a brief background from their involvement in the industry, projects they’ve
produced to offer a slight acknowledgement and appreciation for the skills they bring, and how they express the thriller genre
in their own unique styles from an professional level.
In addition to the key roles people take in film, I had also used this opportunity to explore some of the theories related to my
intentions in the project, to create promotional material, including trailers and posters, for a new thriller orientated film; with
the film industry, audience, and thriller genre on mind for being the most important features making up my project,
researching film theory, thriller (genre) theory, research theory, and audience theory.
With such theories, this helped establish almost everything resolving around film, from the shots, angles, lighting, sound,
editing, and different types (film theory), to enthralling emotions, scenes, speeds, and characters (thriller (genre) theory), and
even comes ideology around qualitative/quantitative data, demographics, psychographics, and social-economic class
(research and audience theory) in hopes of bringing everything together for a better understanding on the broader topic on
film.

Strengths
- A lot the information received from researching Guillermo, David, and Thomas was in regards to the roles they take and
what they specialized in for such films they’ve been involved in, but being able to identify some of the techniques used
when reflecting the thriller genre was particularly helpful. Not only was recognizing some of the processes used beneficial
to the research taking place, but understanding why these certain unique processes and techniques are used in films like
these really helped branch out to the wider implications being mentioned; from audience involvement, persuasion, and
emotive feelings, I was able to start applying them to my own project, in hopes that it wouldn’t only show a great level of
expertise and professionalism, but an amazing final outcome in the endgame of things.
- Aside from my key roles research, a lot of the theory research side of things looked into key features when making films,
something I was able to then apply to the planning and production stages later in the project; particularly looking at
lighting, narrative, characters, themes, settings, and even qualitative/quantitative data researching methods, these areas I
hadn’t much experience in so understanding the theory behind there use and how an effective approach would look like
really helped in the later stages where I could really begin to demonstrate these methods.

Time Management
Having allocated myself 1 week going into my contextual research for the FMP, I would consider my organization and
management of time here was not bad, nor good, but okay overall in my opinion. Only getting what was my key roles
research fully completed by the end of the week, or in other words half of my PowerPoint, this was all to a great level of
detail for each of the person’s I had analyzed in the film industry, but this also meant that almost all of the information
currently seen for this documentation was worked on and written up throughout my own spare time in-between other
section of my project; its understandable why I had done this, partially because I had ran out of time which is the obvious
answer here, but doing so meant I gave up this extra time to fully complete both my pre-proposal and proposal which are
considered more important for the project as they sum up to two individual grades aside from the one main grade for my
contextual research.
At the end of the day my time management here wasn’t great by all means necessary, but this was resultant of a butterfly
effect earlier on in the project, as I hadn’t completed both my pre-proposal or proposal by this point, so I would consider the
time spent in these 2 weeks to be productive for the most part, making up that wasted time getting other sections fully
completed so that I could focus on what's soon coming, my problem solving, experiments, and planning that followed.
Its worth mentioning that with the extra work
done in my spare time, this was quite easily
achieved only ever working 3 days a week
(shown beside), so in the space of not too
long after, maybe 2 – 3 weeks once moving
on, my contextual research was fully
completed with the likes of working on my
problem solving and planning.
My Timetable

Improvements
Despite the fact that I hadn’t been able to determine many weaknesses to the contextual research documentation
made, I definitely think a few improvements could be introduced to certain sections, either adding extra information or
changing something.
Regarding the amount of written work that’d been produced for this particular PowerPoint, I think there's a suitable
amount with the time given for this phase, however, I definitely think the addition of further written work, whether it
be looking at more theories or key roles in the film industry in relation to my FMP, this would show a greater
understanding and devotion to learning and expanding my knowledge/background experience if the time was found.
Following on from this, looking into theory’s surrounding film promotion (i.e. trailers or print products specifically), I
could have greatly benefited from such research having invested a lot of my time later down the line of the project into
this through planning and production mostly.
Aside from the information and total amount done, its also worth mentioning where I had gotten such research,
because most sources here was online through websites, and I would consider it to be more helpful if I had also
investigated other types of sources, including books, focus groups, or even videos; not only would introducing books
for some of my research broaden the limits and capabilities to the extent of where I'm receiving my information,
almost backing it up from including numerous different perspectives into the industry or whatever topic I'm targeting,
but it would equally reflect a more in-depth analysis and therefore professional approach to my project from my peers,
as I’ve spent the time to get others peoples insights and experiences.

What had I done
Bringing in some background history and experience to moving image productions, choosing to go with creating my own film
trailer and promotional products for my FMP (Final Major Project) was the smart way to go as I could endorse some of my
own knowledge and ability in this area of expertise; however, having not touched on the thriller genre before, despite the fact
that I haven’t made a film trailer either, still a lot of research needed to be conducted when looking at their structure,
audience appeal, design, color schemes, addressable changes, effects, audio, and many more additional features included in
film trailers and posters more specifically.
Looking at existing products in the film industry – for both film trailers and posters -, conducting a survey of questions
regarding the thriller genre, 1-on-1 detailed response interviews, and the different main color schemes I had recognized in
the media industry, this was enough for me to begin developing my own project under the intention of creating promotional
material for a new thriller orientated blockbuster film I would also theorize a narrative and ideology for.
With these keys areas in mind, I had also looked in depth for each and every one of these elements making up my research,
from: the camera movements/shots, characters, schemes, effects, reasons I had chosen these products intentionally (existing
products research), common features found and influence it will make on myself (existing products analysis), distribution,
questions/questions updated, audience response analysis, graphs and charts, common trends, traits and their influence on
me (questionnaire analysis), interview question intentions, observation, references, and audience appeal (1-on-1 interviews),
and most finally connotations, reflection, audience appeal, and supporting mood boards for my color schemes research (color
schemes).

Strengths
- Regarding my existing products research, a lot of the information that I had accumulated holds a great deal of detail about
each of the products, from the camera movements/shots, to some of the effects and color schemes being implemented
into the design of the trailers and posters not only shows the full potential from such elements and their effect on an
audience, but also helps my own understanding with their inclusion into the film industry, and most importantly why these
are considered key components that make up the main final outcome of such products.
- The fact that I have considered everything researched here in this documentation to my own product and the influence it
may hold against me, this makes it very beneficial to the development of my final outcome and more significantly the
quality of the outcome; understanding and defining the purpose of each element in the poster or trailer is one thing, but
reflecting this for the future of my FMP, as I had done on many occasions, shows the progress I had made up until now
where I have a fully finished film trailer and supporting array of print promotion.
- Without a doubt one of my strongest features to my research here, the survey I had conducted was of great value to the
progression and end generation of my products throughout the project; broadening my awareness of what an audience
looks for in a thriller based film, my short yet effective questionnaire showed what elements needed the most attention,
and this was evidently foresee ahead of planning the project when showing a devotion to my narrative, a good level of
action, plot twists, and concurrent to a lot of realism in both my film poster and trailer as shown.
- The color schemes research I had produced, although wasn’t much help during the early stages in my FMP, was particularly
beneficial at identifying a color palette for my film; present consistently in my title and print products, a predominant
yellow and white color scheme, with red as a secondary alternative, was specifically chosen because of its contradicting
style as they typically hold positive connotations, aside from when being portrayed in a negative style to bring controversy
to the genre, something that works extremely well and wouldn’t have been possible without the research carried out.

Weaknesses
- Aside from everything else, because I truly believe most things in my research are to the best of their ability and have come
beneficial at some point, my interviews remain still the one thing that hasn’t helped much in the sense that I received
information I’d already known; although some responses were more detailed and slightly different from the people I had
interviewed, my questionnaire held so many questions similar to those mentioned in my interviews that I had gotten re-
occurring answers. This should have been recognized when conducting and planning my interviews to avoid such thing
happening, but following through with the interviews, I got my responses and a slightly better understanding at what each
age category as an audience look for in the film industry, nothing more beneficial other than that; although I had stated
something useful, the amount of time spent on my interviews could have been used for something more time efficient for
the information received at the end of the day.

Time Management
With a 2 week time period to get all of my research PowerPoint completed, its fairly clear why I hadn’t fully finished
everything you see to that deadline; getting the majority of it completed, all that was left included slight adjustments and
improvements to current slides, or adding in some extra information where necessary. Although I hadn’t gotten everything
finished for the deadline, I would argue my time management for this section of the project was well managed and organized,
getting a lot of work done in the time offered for this section to be well on track for the foreseeable future of the FMP;
especially when considering I had completed over 65 slides during these 2 weeks, each packed full of information, that would
take me abouts 1 hour per slide, totaling to about 55 hours disregarding the title slides, and putting this number against the
amount of hours I was in college when doing my research, this shows I had done 28 hours in my spare time at home or during
free lessons to get it shifted.
Taking into consideration that I had spent 28 hours of my own free time during these 2 weeks to get it completed shows a
strong dedication to this segment of the FMP, and therefore this justifies my claims for holding a fairly good course of time
management in the particular aspect of my project (my research documentation), despite the fact that I hadn’t fully
completed it for the deadline but soon after in the following weeks where time was found around whatever projects I was
currently working around.

Improvements
Looking back at my research document, I think it would be necessary to develop my existing products research with at least
another print film poster analysis, making it 2 trailers and 2 posters; not only would this improve my understanding around
print products more, as I would have accompanied it something likely to be unique and different from ‘the conjuring’ poster I
had covered, getting different insights and perspectives on print promotion in the industry, but I’m sure it would also help
justify some of the intentions made in my own posters and print products at same time of broadening my approach to making
my own print products if I had done this from an early stage.
In addition to this, its worth mentioning the interviews I had done because as already specified in the weaknesses for this
section of my research, the questions I asked and therefore responses I received weren’t any different from my questionnaire
and what I had gotten from them either; this could be done with a simple fix of the questions, changing them to look at more
specific elements possibly, but the fact that I could only take away from this a few things about their age groups and what
they look for in a film, this is definitely something I would consider changing if I was to do some more research in the future
or come back to this.
And concluding the improvements I would make to my research PowerPoint if I was to come back in the future, I would
consider other processes of gathering research and conduct them in addition to everything present if I had the time to;
Including things like looking back at documents or records, and or even attending focus groups, these things would add to my
understanding of the way an audience looks at the film industry whilst broadening my research and therefore supportive
elements to what I’m talking about and creating.

What had I done
With that’s extensive to another level, I had done what seems everything possibly during the planning stage, adding through
from when starting the planning documentations, to the end of my production when filming my various needed shots and
changing slight elements at a near constant basis, here is everything I had done in this section:
Thriller genre – With an introduction into my planning section, I addressed the thriller genre having wanted to establish this
in each and every one of my products, so looking at what I’ve recognized across this topic, my intentions in this genre, how I
can reflect these ideals, all in support of a style sheet and mood board, these aspects covered helped determine a lot of the
different things I was to look into further down the line, whether it be my trailer, posters, props, characters, or even setting, I
applied what I had discovered here integrating it.
Story Development – Because I could only start to begin linking and planning my trailers and print products once I had a
narrative to follow, I followed on through with creating a story development section, distinguishing my intentions, some idea
generation slides, the narrative itself from my idea generation, and the storyline separated into acts for ease of
understandability when forming my trailer later on. The narrative is arguably the most important here for the whole project
because it determines what my trailer and poster will end up looking like, so coming out of this section with the work I have
done here, I’m extremely pleased with the end outcome.
Shot lists – Making up the longest part throughout the whole of the planning PowerPoint, my shot lists sections makes up of
two separate narratives, the first one being my initial plan which soon changed into the second one seen; making them so
extensive, I had kept on applying to these slides throughout production when filming my trailer and coming to realization of
some of the decision made early on in this section. Included in this section is a structural breakdown and short storyboard,
but covering each section that resolves into a full trailer from each act as mentioned in my story development section, each
of the shots had constantly been highlighted different colors when filming to help with organization and management to
make the process of everything much easier to handle.

What had I done
Title/Tagline – With an interest at beginning the planning towards the film posters ill create as part of my promotional film
products, I couldn’t begin until the main feature to my film as a whole had been decided, so with some intentions, possible
words and fonts to choose from, ’Omission’ became my film title for the project, coming from the desire to have meaning
about what happens in my film, at the same time as including ‘io’ next to each other to otherwise create the number 10 for
extra interpretation and reference to my narrative. At the same time of this, the ‘they perished’ font was also chosen for
reasons surrounding my narrative once again, almost breaking away at the bottom reflecting her past, but in addition to this I
had come up with my tagline, ‘Will you run, hide, survive, or die’, soon to be represented throughout my trailer and poster in
hidden connotations, following with a similar process as to my title.
Potential Techniques – Continuing with the planning of my trailer in particular, I wanted to make sure, having acknowledged
the fact my audience researched adheared to this, that I would involve a plentiful amount of video effects and techniques to
create diversity in my work, whether it be through camera movements or editing to follow through with a strong aesthetic
appeal, this would maintain an engagement and satisfaction as I had also looked into how difficult it is to perform such effect,
and why I had chosen to use it for both these main factors mentioned.
Color Schemes – Following on from my research, I had perused to look into more about the main color schemes you see in
film, yellow, blue, green, white and black, understanding what colors work best with these predominates using the Adobe
Color website to categories their analogous, monochromatic, traid, complementary, compound, and shade reflections in the
universal color wheel.
Locations – Because of there importance throughout a film, to create emotive feelings and atmospheres as seen in my
research surrounding directors David Fincher and Guillermo Del Torro, it was imperative that I had first listed a range of
locations that sensed a thrilling captivation, where they are located, in addition to accessibility, and how they could be
integrated into my narrative for ease of understandability in my wide audience groups.

What had I done
Props/characters – Despite the fact that I would have created this section anyways when looking at character costumes, it
had come to my attention that a few of my desirable shots in my shot lists required props that needed making and or
retrieving, so looking at designing and laying out my missing poster prop, in addition to my main character, the costume she
would be wearing, all in support of the conventions it would imply, audience appeal in the choice of clothing, and a style
sheet to reflect my ideas, this was all briefed up with the use of images, concepts, and written information showing my
judgement and intentions.
Audio – With the set intentions of including some sort of speech in my trailer, to help drive the narrative on, a script in
correlation to the shot lists made had been created for each section in addition to how much time I'm working with, and the
style it should be conveyed over to set an emotion and thrilling atmosphere. With every line mentioned here, this was
developed alongside making my shot lists and when structuring the trailer, so that everything makes sense to form a greater
understanding in the final outcome.
Planning Poster – With the end goal of creating a range of promotional material for my thriller film, this included a film poster
for their still effective approach after 125 years in the industry, and so looking at my intentions in this sector, what
tools/methods can be implemented to reflect my ideas, the emotions I want, possible color schemes, and two style sheets
and concept for the design, this had set myself ahead for creating the posters seen with good reasoning and justifications
throughout.
Call Sheets – Of great importance during the production phase, I had created these call sheets ahead of filming days to limit
the amount of time spent on set, and improve the efficiency of filming to avoid as many potential problems as possible;
including an advanced in-depth documentation of timings, personnel's on set, location details, emergency contacts, and kit
movement, I had also supported this with a birds-eye-view of the locations, with a walking route, and a weather analysis
keeping track as the days go by approaching the selected date, with the inclusion of such needed shots to keep track.

What had I done
Technical/Management – Concluding my planning documentation, besides from my bibliography, written work regarding my
production schedule from weeks 1 to 8, personnel's needed on set, and a list of resources that I had initially come up with
ahead of going into production and filming meant that all was left is these such technical/management factors to consider,
mocked up in a very detailed set of PowerPoint slides for extra information regarding the next steps I would take into
developing an outstanding few outcomes to the project.

Strengths
From beginning to end, my story development section in the planning PowerPoint is by far one of the most successful
features of the whole project, not only for determining the final form of my narrative which works perfectly with my
intentions from the start, but I had come from having no idea what my storyline would resolve around to generating a few
different ideas and therefore developing the final form; without the planning I had done through from my research to now, I
wouldn’t have been able to achieve the narrative you see, and not to mention that this also determined everything from my
poster designs to the trailer produced, otherwise I'm sure the end outcome wouldn’t have been as successful.
Concerning my shot lists, this was also considerably helpful using the tables made to assist organizing everything, whether it
be the different scenes, sections, acts, or even shots, I used this to manage my footage and track my progress with the filming
taking place; in addition to this, highlighting each of the shots to identify what I still needed to record, what needed
improving, and what I had gotten, this made the process much more time efficient, especially when forming my call sheets
for each filming day, often taking these tables to shooting locations for reconsolidating myself. Its also worth mentioning that
my shot list pages changed the whole structure for my last idea and initial plan I had, for the better as it was more suiting to
the narrative and recording surrounding purposes of ease of production, improving my time management on the project,
whilst sustaining a good level of understandability for new audiences coming to my trailer for instance.
I would also consider the process of determining my title and tagline was particularly great in the sense that I had no idea
what my title or tagline would be, or even the font that I would be using, all up until I had looked at the ‘dafont’ website, used
my own knowledge and background experience, and arranged a plan to differ one name or font I had found against another;
the outcome being ‘omission’ with the ‘they perished’ font choice was a great decision, for reasons surrounding the title
defines ‘someone or something being left out’ which relates closely to my narrative, the font choice almost perishing away at
the bottom to incline a slow process of disappearing, otherwise reflecting my character slowly turning psychotic, and finally
the defining of the letters ‘io’ that demonstrates the 10 days passing in my story, another subtle addition.

Strengths
When it comes to the impact something has made on the production phase, aside from my shot lists pages having already
mentioned their use, the call sheets made for each filming day was also incredibly beneficial throughout this section;
discussing what I would be filming, at whatever specific time, in addition to contact details, location accessibility, a birds eye
view of each set with a map route, and even to the extent of monitoring the weather and sunlight direction, this ensured
everything would go as smoothly as possible, avoiding any potential dangers/hazards, at the same time of making the process
of recording and getting footage much more efficient.

Weaknesses
I would say the color schemes planning I had done, looking at some of the different
color variations with each of the predominant’s, hadn’t come much helpful for some of
the planning aspects you would expect it to thrive in, such as when looking at poster
concepts which strongly focus on color schemes here; although I had learnt a few
different ways in which colors can work with one another, I didn’t use this working
towards anything, not even during production, making it the most pointless section out
of the whole PowerPoint, and even looking back at these slides, I still cant seem to
understand where it could come beneficial, its more there to simply advocate an
appreciation for every possibility and show an initiative.
In addition to this, I would incline where I had looked into different uses and
possibilities with potential techniques wasn’t much help; although I can fully
understand that its good to list down potential things I could use in either of my poster
or trailer, as this is a planning documentation, this mostly consisted of stuff I had
already know, and despite their listing downs, when it came to production I had more or
less changed and added things that I thought would be suiting when going through and
making my trailer/poster, so in short, I was only stating information I knew already not
helping myself but only serving a purpose to showing my peers my thought process for
each of the methods. Its worth mentioning that even though this doesn’t sound at all a
weakness, in comparison to everything else, and judging these slides from my point of
view, they’re considered weak.
Color Schemes
Potential Techniques

Time Management
Unaware of how long I have spent on this section of my FMP, my time management here has remained
extremely complex from the start. Constantly changing aspects to this planning PowerPoint, from the
beginning I had been working on this alongside completing my problem solving documentation,
broadening what I'm look at and taking in every possibility I can think of, I would say I have roughly
been working on this single PowerPoint for almost 12 weeks (3 months), making it the most looked at
piece of work for the whole project, holding currently 675 views from my OneDrive. With this in mind
most would presume I've been extremely unorganized, however to an extent I think I've done
reasonably well because particular during production, I was visiting this page daily, whether it be
changing my shot lists on most occasions, or sometimes looking back at past concepts, changing ideas,
or adding in extra slides for certain things I've decided to do later on, this has made it extremely
complex and therefore impossible to manage.

Improvements
Looking back at my planning documentation, the only thing I would mention improving is my time management, not
only because I had gone over the deadline as a result of this, but this also left a lot of out-standing work that needed to
be completed in my own time, therefore this also impacted a lot of the work I was currently working on, whether it be
my production or evaluation; this also demonstrates, similar to those other sections that rolled over the deadline, a
butterfly affect where a past section has affected the next section that affected the following section and so fourth.
Avoiding this would be a significant improvement to consider in the future, and this doesn’t only apply to this section,
because it could also be establish earlier on in the project having carried on to effect further developments; doing so
would offer more time and the opportunity to improve work where it needs elaborating, adding the extra detail and or
information to improve the grade and how I'm reflected as a person to my peers.
Because I can’t find anything wrong in particular with almost all of the written work you see, because I truly believe I
had considered everything that’s to be included in my planning, I would mention adding additional sources and
therefore links in my bibliography; I had noticed that my bibliography seemed extremely empty although I had typed
up so much information throughout the course of this PowerPoint, so whether or not it means finding some sources
across the internet or in person (books/focus groups), I think broadening my bibliography could be of some importance
when showing an initiative and dedication to research with reason.
Surprisingly, I could only point out these two improvements which could be made, although its with reason that
improving my time management covers an extensive amount of different matters, I honestly think a lot of my work
here is both extremely detailed and to the point, but also very descriptive with my own personal judgements following
almost a pathway as you go through the PowerPoint carrying along the way my thought process for my peers to
understand everything much clearer.

What had I done
Over the course of my production, alongside filming and editing my trailer, I
had also come to produce a film poster for the psychological thriller I'm
promoting ‘Omission’; this was summed up through a lot of planning and
various processes, some of the main ones that helped develop this piece
include:
Image Choice – What's the main thing making up my poster, the image
choice here was crucial to the outcome of this print product because a lot
of my intentions depended on it. Taking into account the layout and framing
in particular, because other certain features could be changed (i.e. the
colors), I had come to choose this image above all of the other options that
were available to me, not only because it’s framing captured the scene well,
suiting the thriller genre because its kept quite focused on the tunnel
entrance, but the layout here of objects and the person, including the
ground distribution and metal wiring box – on the left, makes it not too
distracting and evenly spread across the board when adding in the extra’s –
the ‘hide’, ‘run’, and ‘survive’ text works with this layout in a straight motion
from left to right because of this strategic positioning. Its also worth
mentioning that in addition to the framing and layout of the image, good
colors and lighting came with the caption, meaning no color grading was
needed in the final outcome seen, and not much adjustments was either
needed for the lighting, which was crucial for the poster when establishing
a distinct figure against the ground, improving my overall time management
creating this poster during production.

What had I done
Shadow – Despite elements like my title or the sunlight peering through that stands out amongst all other things, my
shadow located across the bottom half of my poster is also considered something that is a key feature to this print
product; in replacement of the shadow of my main character, this isn’t the initial intentions for this piece, having
photographed this image and started the poster in hopes of replicating her shadow and having two reflected against
the ground, however coming into starting this particular effect, I had transitioned naturally to make it a single shadow
having realized that two would have confused the audience in the small space that’s available. Sticking with 1 shadow, I
had used a mixture of both the dodge and burn tool to adjust the shape making it seem like someone else's, whether
you determine it as someone else's shadow or your own coming from the direction it originates, this adds a sense of
involvement from the audience because of how distinct, threatening, eerie, and intriguing its figure remains.
The idea behind its inclusion was to establish the psychological thriller
genre, despite the fact that it may not be clear as to how it demonstrates
the psychological element, the shadow definitely gets you thinking, who is it,
what's happening, and more importantly why, questions I would like to think
are constantly referenced in my audience when watching my trailer or
seeing such print products as it grabs your ’Attention’, builds up an ‘Interest’,
elaborates a ‘Desire’ to watch the film, and therefore makes you take
‘Action’ - follows through with the theory behind AIDA – or in other words, it
makes the poster visually persuasive to look into the film more, following
through with the objective of film promotion.

What had I done
Title – Often deliberated as the most important part to a film print product, the film title, otherwise know as the
masthead, needed a lot of attention to get it perfectly right, and so located across the bottom half of my film poster,
following through with some of the typical expectations you would see in a poster, I have the title ‘omission’ blended
within the ground under the ‘they perished’ font choice in addition to the ‘io’ of omission being a vibrant yellow; with a
lot of the title having already been determined from my planning PowerPoint, it was mostly a simple ‘place embedded’
situation having created the title already, however it had soon come to my attention that this didn’t suit the style I was
targeting, so with some brief feedback on my initial poster design, I had used the ‘distortion’ process, from having right
clicked the image in transform mode, to not only have it aligned with the brickwork of the ground, but also blended
into the ground making it very aesthetically attractive, eye-catching, and overall better than my previous design.
Already done ahead of time, the ‘io’ in my title Omission is a feature within the masthead that makes these letters a
vibrant yellow in comparison the standard white you see for the rest of it; although it may seem peculiar at first,
because I’ve just highlighted the letters ‘I’ and ‘o’, it should soon come apparent with the font choice here that its in
fact the number ‘10’, where this acts as a way of linking to my trailer and the film as a whole because my narrative
focuses on ‘10’ days that pass until the ultimate end of the film, a subtle element to my title that not only looks
aesthetically pleasing with the color scheme I follow in my print
products in particular, but its also a smart way in advocating that
this isn’t the only hidden connotation to look out for, especially
when considering there are more to the poster than just this one.

What had I done
Hide, Run, and Survive – With the intentions of including a lot of hidden contextual meanings to either other products
I had made in the production process, or general things that relate to my film in some way, I had continued to include
the words ‘hide’, ‘run’, and ‘survive’ amongst the main image of my film poster to both follow through with the minimal
approach I was looking for, and to show a direct link to my film tagline/slogan that present in both my film DVD cover
and teaser advertisement; used mostly to reflect the thriller genre in the words choices that are there, and hint at
foreshadowing what to expect in the film, I had done this using both a font from the photoshop library (‘hide’) and the
website ‘dafont’ (‘survive’) in addition to a process including a mixture of blending options when right clicking, and the
‘distort’ option once rasterized to shape the text to such walls for instance, getting the outcomes you see with the
current poster. Although this process worked well when representing a type of graffiti to the far left (‘hide’), or
scratching to the side of the metal box on the far right (‘survive’), I couldn’t apply this to the ‘run’ text in the tree in the
foreground, completing the tagline and typical references you would expect in a thriller film; with this in mind, I had to
improvise by using an array of tools to add in, remove, or even twist some of the branches forming the text you see,
using the likes of the ‘patch tool’ and ‘stamp’ to move some of the branches, whilst things like the ‘eraser’, ‘spot light
healing brush’, ’dodge’, and ‘burn’ tool were used to make more minor adjustments and tweaks to the way that
branches look from a distance, making the ‘run’ obvious once seen yet subtle and almost freaky once seen.

What had I done
Release Date – Located across the top half of my film poster, the main purpose of including a release date was to not
only show some relatability to other existing products in the industry, as this is a typical feature seen amongst other
film posters, but it also acts as a way of making the audience take action as to when they can watch the film, offering
the information needed to keep them intrigued, all whilst serving the purpose of a poster to persuade audience
members into watching a film for it to be successful; simply going across to the ’Dafont’ website, screenshotting the
release date text under the font choice of ‘an unfortunate event’, which is mentioned before as to why I have chosen
this particular style, removing the background in photoshop with the ‘magic wand tool’, and using the ‘paint bucket
tool’ to change the colors of each letter if needed, this meant I could then go across and ‘place embedded’ the image
into my poster - with this process, its worth mentioning that this is how I had done any text that used ‘Dafont’ in any of
my print products or even trailer with the animated text.

What had I done
Minimal Design – From starting off my film poster, I had created
every feature under the discretion that I wanted a very clean and
minimal design across the product, for reasons surrounding the
fact that I'm addressing a thriller film and I had decided that a
minimal style would show some reflection of my narrative,
something that’s concealed itself from the reality of the world to
terrorize my main character, in addition to addressing modern
society with a more clean and simple approach aesthetically, I
knew this decisions would also greatly benefit from some of my
other intentions resolving around the inclusion of hidden
contextual meanings; although this doesn’t address to a particular
element in my poster, I would consider the process of using the
blending options falls into this category since it acts as a way of
almost disguising some of the features in the main image,
therefore a minimalistic composition.

Strengths
When it comes to my film poster, there's loads of the different features
and contextual meanings behind their inclusion that really stands out to
me, not only making them a strength to the outcome for their visual
appearance, but also in the emotions that are draw out by it.
The title beyond everything else is my most favorite piece that I would
also consider the strongest. Following through with the minimal
appearance by blending it into the ground, the yellow 10 is striking in
replacement of the 'io', giving it a unique reflection, especially when
acknowledging the fact that it’s a hidden contextual reference to the
narrative which is based off of 10 days terrorizing my character that pass
by. The font in addition to the title itself meaning 'something to be left
out or excluded', contextualizing my storyline once again, distinguished
in the font 'they perished' reflects values amongst being more articulate
and modern although the bottom half is crumbling away, hinting at the
slow consumption of my main characters mind which we see as the
audience follows her footsteps in the psychological elements
throughout.
Another hidden contextual feature I would consider apart of the
strengths, aside from the shadow which is well put together, is the
inclusion of 'hide', 'run', and 'survive'; directly referencing my film
tagline, therefore what's happens in the narrative, and my teaser
advertisement, these features can also be used as a way of advocating
the psychological genre given you have to look for them as an audience
member, making themselves think.

Weaknesses
Although I'm pleased with a lot of my features in the poster, because
they hold a lot of hidden contextual meanings throughout, I think the
'hide', 'run', and 'survive', despite holding significant values reflecting my
tagline and the storyline, could have been made more obvious to the
eye of the audience; particularly the 'run' in the trees above the rest,
this one, if you hadn't know it was there, you would be completely
oblivious to, and so I would consider this a weakness because without
knowing it was there, you wouldn’t be able to make that link across my
trailer advertisement for instance because these 3 titles are shown
there.
In addition to this, although how good the image is, I still think there are
some missed opportunities where I could have hidden more features
following through with the minimalistic style, more specifically the sky
where an increase in contrast could bring out the textures in the clouds
in particular; following through with my intentions, I think this would
have been a good inclusion, whether or not I added in a face or text, but
I think a good example of this is the figure I have in the background of
the image.
Not the shadow of the floor, but in the window of the building behind,
second floor 2 in from the right, I had attempted to show a figure in the
building with the contrast of the white curtain, however, the outcome
looks more like a strap holding the curtain open, so overall, this failed
dramatically.

Time Management
In addition to working alongside my trailer, my film poster was
the first print product I made in the project, in fact that first
product I had made and finished in the project, starting
roughly on the 5th week when returning back to college after
working from home for almost 4 months, this was the perfect
opportunity to get back into the project as I now had the
accesability to produce my poster using the facilities avaliable
to me at college.
Made in the space of a week, from Tuesday to Friday,
including the time to get feedback and improve my poster on
the last day, the time spent on this print product, when
looking at the outcome, went extremely well adding up to a
total of 6 features in 3 days, these being the title, the shadow,
each of the 3 hidden words, and finally the release date;
considering that the poster is classed as one of the main
sources of print film products, it surprised me as to how quick
I had actually finished this piece when comparing it to my
trailer for instance which had been going on for 5 weeks
without starting the editing process.

Improvements
Looking back at my poster, I don’t think any improvements could
have been made when looking at the intentions I had gone for in
the style, design and layout; in addition to this, the main aims with
the poster was to establish the thriller genre, and I think I did
everything I could have done, and more, to get across these
threatening ideals, especially with the influence I had from the
conjuring film poster, as you can see some synergy in the products
here.
Following through with a more minimal style in the poster, I think
the addition of anything else would have messed with the
approach I was going, because everything fits perfectly in place
both horizontally and vertically when observing the print product.
The only thing I would mention improving would be the main
image, I think everything I had done to it fits perfectly in with the
framing, but the main image itself could have used some color
grading to improve the contrast on the walls and ground, build up
the shadows in the corner to make you focus more on the center,
and lightening the tunnel silhouettes casted from the tree and
person which could then reference some of my silhouette footage
in the trailer.

What had I done
What had taken me almost the whole of the production phase to produce, from getting the numerous shots and sounds
needed, improving and re-taking the footage in places, and editing up everything together, my film trailer is the main
outcome to the whole FMP, therefore a lot of changes were made, and separate features were added in the process of
making sure this is to the best of my ability for my major final outcome.
Introduction (0:00 to 0:30) – Its important to understand that although the beginning could be considered not engaging and
attention grabbing enough for a thriller film, the purpose of these first 30 seconds was to introduce the main character and
the storyline to a new audience, especially considering its this character you’ll be constantly resolving around and following
throughout the film; and so establishing a sense of normality in my character, as depicted from my planning documentation,
this makes it personally involving and relatable to an extent as you begin to reference yourself in her position so that when it
comes to some of the more threatening ideals she encounters later in the trailer, they’re also personally directed to you
which brings up some of the emotions you expect in a thriller film, from anxiousness, fear and intimidation as a few. In
addition to this, I had also added some elements hinting at a psychological thriller film with the parallax effect, otherwise
know as the dolly zoom, that's demonstrated across two of the bench shots seen in this section to give of unsettling and
intriguing intentions (psychological genre), whilst the use of sound effects over the top of this introduction and interview
scene establish more of the thrilling side of things, keeping it eerie, dark, and basey; implementing sound effects to my work
was fairly simply, only ever making sure that they were perfectly in time to create a slower pace initially, however the parallax
was more complex, moving the camera physically backwards on shoot whilst zooming on in the center point to give off an
unsettling perspective and representation. Its also worth mentioning that despite nothing much happening, this keeps you
intrigued as to why this is a thriller film when you haven’t seen anything in the first 30 seconds, making it more effective than
you realize because it makes you as the audience focus much more at what your watching and listening to, something that is
soon to be acknowledged when shadows and other creepy thangs start to appear as the narrative is introduced more to the
audience.

What had I done
Days Structure (0:35 to 1:35) – The first key feature we see in the trailer is the ‘days’ structure with the main purpose of
keeping the audience interested to carry on watching; when a time frame like this is particularly addressed as something
clearly important to the trailer, you instantly presume its building up to something, and the trailer does exactly that until the
end when we have the final cliffhanger to the video and the title is revealed, almost acting as a way of giving the audience a
purpose for watching the trailer because otherwise you’ll be left thinking ‘what happens next’ if you happen to leave it early.
Used as a way of establishing a lot of the different scenes and locations you would expect to see in the film, because the text
itself is a masked video to make the storyline more understandable as you, the audience, begin to determine what happens
next in anticipation of a scene you’ve seen in the days but not the film yet for instance, but following through with the
intentions of hidden contextual meanings in all of my products, the days constantly builds up in the trailer until you reach day
10, a purposeful intention of mine as it directly links across the use of highlighting the ‘io’ in omission yellow, or otherwise
known as the ‘10’ when looking at the word in the ‘they perished’ font, hinting towards the film narrative from an early stage,
not only for this reason, but also as a way of getting you to think about other things unveiling some of the other additional
hidden contexts throughout both my trailer and print products in my audiences.
Using the fusion tab on the DaVinci resolve software that I had used to edit up my whole trailer, adding ‘nodes, ‘text nodes’,
and changing a lot of the adjustments in the inspector tab regarding opacity and position, this gave the effect of see through
text that’s also animated growing slowly towards the camera in the small time frame that its used for, simply adding a video
clip over the top to complete the effect; the fact that I could copy and paste this meant that I only ever needed to change the
title from days 1 – 10, meaning it hadn’t taken long at all to produce so that I could focus on some of the more important and
time consuming task in the editing process.

What had I done
Shadow (0:41 to 0:43) – Remaining mostly subtle as a visual effect, another one of my main feature comes in the form of a
shadow that is reflected against the floor following my main character as she goes by, the first sighting of the discrete figure is
used as a way of clarifying the thriller genre with some psychological elements as to what's actually happening with the
current situation here, especially when followed up with the sound effect you hear, this creates an unsettling atmosphere
almost immediately; in addition to starting to show some elements of a thriller genre being present almost 50 seconds into
the trailer, despite this also being another distinct link to my film poster, with almost the exact same situation walking by the
same shot with an undisclosed figure in frame, this also remarks the beginning of the slow progression to insanity from my
main character (i.e. the main part to the storyline) as this is the first time we physically see something that poses a danger in
relation to what's been said so far in the voice over, creating a lot of interest and a desire to carry one watching and
deciphering this unusual thing as we've reinforced a more personal connection with the character, almost helping her on this
journey.
Made using the same clip duplicated over the top of the other but
slightly delayed, I had masked the movement of the shadow from
the delayed clip from where it first enters the frame to when it
leaves the shot, using a lot of keyframes and slightly adjusting the
speed in places, the outcome worked well with the intentions I had
set, however a defined circular shape around my shadow, the area I
had masked, was obvious to the eye as both the camera moves a tiny
bit in the process of filming, and the color grade once applied looked
considerably different, so adding a softness to the edging through
the inspector tab resolved the issue making it near seamless.

What had I done
Sound Effects (times n/a) – Despite the visuals playing a considerably important role because they show the storyline, style
and reflect the genre, I had gone into making my trailer with the acknowledgement of how crucial it is to get sound and music
across my trailer, not only for the benefit of my trailer and supporting a lot of the ideals ill get across in the visuals, but it was
almost always mentioned in a lot of the questions I got responses from in my survey, making it a key area to target
throughout the trailer; from the inclusion of bass drops to dramatic hits, risers, syllable crashes, snaps, ghostly breathing, or
even horns, in addition to being widely recognized and appreciated from my audiences and myself included, sound effects
are incredibly helpful at establishing a dramatic or tense situation, creating a lot of the time the emotions you feel when
paired with some visual sources to support the effect it makes, however sometimes just audio worked in my trailer to create
unsettling atmosphere - for instance when I made it go to a black screen purposefully and the audience to focus on just the
audio).
Using YouTube for almost all of the sound effects and music, this process was extremely easy when using ‘OBS Studio’ as I
could simply use the software to record the audio straight from YouTube avoiding the possibility of getting any viruses
through downloaders on the internet.

What had I done
Trailer Breakup (0:25 to 0:30) (0:50 to 0:55) – Acting as a way of breaking up my trailer at points, whether it be a black screen
or video that's usually silent or focusing on 1 particular sound/voice over, this is something that crops up a few times
throughout the trailer because it makes the following clips or sounds more impactful and compelling to the emotions you
would expect in a thriller film; quite a simple process of muting every sound other than one and choosing whether to get
with a single clip or black screen, I tend to use it every other day when the pace starts to get quicker and quicker so that not
only can I go into another segment of the trailer focusing on something different as to before, keeping it new and refreshing
after each breakup, but this also keeps the audience engaged and more focused throughout on not only the visuals but also
the sounds as I make them focus on these certain elements.
Snap Foreshadowing (0:56 to 0:59) – Only taking up a small part to my trailer, the
2 or 3 frame snap of an image here is a really cool effect that I particular like, for
reasons both surrounding the fact that it makes my audience stay focused and
engaged on the trailer because of how quick the cutting is, otherwise you would
miss the feature given how quickly it goes by, so its effective at keeping an
audiences attention if anything else crops up for the remaining time the trailer
continues for; more importantly, I used this effect for the purpose of
foreshadowing what occurs later in the trailer, hinting from an early stage the
ending, however, because only less than a second is seen here, this once again
acts as a way of keeping the audience watching to find out more behind the quick
flash of an image because its clear with its early inclusion that it plays a significant
role to the storyline, otherwise it wouldn’t have been shown, keeping them
interested and more involved.

What had I done
Door Switching (1:04 to 1:09) - Acting as another way of breaking up the trailer from the pace its going, similar to when it goes
black with a voice over earlier on, the switching between the front door closed at day but opening at night is used as a way of
continuing a scene we are introduced to later in the trailer, otherwise know as smart structuring because of the realization you
come to seeing the scene as we progress through with the trailer. The fact that this effect also introduces quick cutting and
transitioning to the trailer makes it more dramatic than just a door opening at night, especially when acknowledging that this is
the main character home from a shot during the introduction as she leaves closing the door behind her, implying that this is
actually all linked up hinting at something happening further down the trailer, otherwise it wouldn’t be shown, building up the
tension and desire to carry on watching; with the clock ticking in the background that remains subtle but perfectly in time with
the cutting here, it really makes this feature shine when it goes quite once again and the ticking stops, forming a temporary
cliffhanger to the scene we see later on, but also reforming a sense of anxiousness particular in my audience as we instantly
presume a danger that’s opened up to my character, and quite literally as from this moment onwards we see the figure itself
during the same scene later.

What had I done
Past Present Switching (1:17 to 1:21) - As we get closer to the end of the 10 days here, I've now established a clear plot twist in the
film with the quick flashing between past and present of my character in a pshychotic state, whilst also being supported from some
of the voice over work, to get across the idea of a pshychological film as the narrative weve been following takes an unexpected turn.
Not only is this effect very aesthetically pleasing to watch, keeping the auidence entertained enough to carry on watching, but I
would also consider it very unique, something I wanted to adress frequently in both my trailer, as seen in the days structure for
insatnce, but also in my poster, going through with the minimal and discrete style to reflect my storyline of something hiding away.
In addition to the old video reel sound effects that are tuned in time with the quick cutting, this helps establish this being the past,
supported by the color grading difference, in addition to the voice over 'how can we trust someone whos lied their entire life', this
implys that not everything seen in my character is necessarily true, broadening the desire and curiosity in my audience, some of the
senses you would expect from a pshychological film, to find out the truth, therefore paying more attention to the trailer and keeping
their utter most focus all the way through to the end.
Present Past

What had I done
Bathroom Scene (1:24 to 1:48) - As we move through days 8, 9, and 10, this section is a perticular favourite of mine as it defines both
the thriller genre perfectly with the mirror shot, which I had done by masking over the same clip with a still frame prolonged, whilst
also showing the slow development of a tense and frightening situation making up what could be considered the main part to my
trailer; however, it doesn’t stop here because the effect you see I so perfectly masked and cut in with the sounds that it really gives
the chills and emotions you would expect for the thriller genre im targetting, in addition to of course the strong lighting and focus
point being the mirror, and the realization that comes from the audience linking this scene back to the door switching and therefore
becoming more personally involved as we have been following in the steps of the character and this is a clear danger towards this
individual.
Following on through with the smart structuring I have been doing, as soon as we see the scene carry on through day 8 to day 9 and
then 10, this builds up the tension because were not only introduced to a new effect we havent see earlier on in the trailer, making is
abit wary of the situation because ive put the auidence in an uncomfortable situation where they don’t know what to expect, but
instead of using the time to slow it down and break up the trailer like before, I let the tension continue through the whole scene to
show us nearing the end of the trailer so that its more impactful, engaging, and entertaining; almost letting the anticipation of
something happening finally loose, this makes both the effect of the mirror even more surprising, because the figure in the narrative
the whole time has been herself, hinting at the fact that she's been the one behind all of the weird occurances (her mind playing with
herself), but it also let the finals scenes that follow more alluring and enjoyable in a sense as we let the audience finally grasp the full
narrative.

What had I done
11 Beat Ending (1:48 to 2:16) - And of course concluding my trailer, the 11 beat ending with cuts between various clips, more
perticularly where the final scenario is introduced, abit of animated text to link back to my teaser advertisement, because of
the simular style its fomratted in, and the ending beat shot linking back to the quick snaps earlier on in the trailer, this gives a
more dramatic, action packed montage, having recognised that this was appreciated from an audience in my research
surveys, to differ from the slower introduction and end the trailer on a high; not only giving away enough of the narrative for
the auidence to want to watch the film, but this also recieves their full attention before showing the ending title 'omission', in
addition to the yellow 10 animated within the title to try and hint at the 10 days we see in the trailer.
Following through with the theory behind AIDA, the title at the end of this main feature acts as a way of telling the auidence
to take action and watch the film, all in all serving the purpose of a piece of film promotion by grabbing their attention,
keeping them interested throughout the trailer with the disclosed narrative and effects, establishing a desire to find out more
in the pshychological elements seen, and finally to take action when closing off with a date as to when they can watch the
film, linking back to my poster in the same font and style to form synergy between my two main outcomes for the project.

Strengths
There are some many things that I would consider as strengths in my trailer, from the unique days structure to the use of
sound effects and so on, but out of everything that I had done, the build up to the bathroom scene and how I had executed
the 5 sections, the introduction, day 4, 8, 9, and 10, was so perfectly done that I have to consider it the strongest element
making up roughly a quarter of the trailer.
With the initial intentions of never including this scene, instead a follow on of distinguish more locations and settings, this is
also the best change I had made to my trailer, not only because it meant my initial intentions of including a mirror shot
worked, but the smart structuring right from the beginning is so well put together, especially with the sound effects and voice
over on top, demonstrating the thriller genre, my skill with the mirror feature, and cinematography ability in the camera work
building up to this moment to the point. Regarding the audience and the effect it has on them, the bathroom scene acts as a
way of releasing the anticipation built up from all the break in the trailer when the pace started to get higher, making the
ending which follows so engaging and enthralling as a viewer that you enjoy it more.

Weaknesses
Above all other things throughout the course of my trailer, I had come to realize from an early stage, although how good
my introduction is (the first 30 seconds) at distinguishing and introducing the audience to the narrative and my main
character, I'm not pleased with the outcome and choice of shots; I really like the sound effects and voice over that’s present,
but I think for the beginning of a trailer, the introduction is quite slow and could be considered not engaging enough to keep
an audience interested, even though it works well with the psychological elements in my trailer, especially with the inclusion
of the parallax effect and continuing a scene later in the trailer (the bathroom scene), I think the intro needs more of an umph
despite some aspects we see – how I would do that, I'm not sure, but the pace needs to be faster and more sound effect
could be used to show more of an action state that my audience like, as seen in my research survey.
I would also consider a few shots throughout my trailer, which I had chucked in with extra footage to fill in some of the gaps,
don’t quite make sense with how the narrative is structured in the 'days' that is present, and alongside these pieces of
footage, the use of color grading is a bit dodgy in places too, whether the temperature or contrast had been turned up too
much, it can make these scenes look out of place or more unrealistic than the purpose of color grading to make it look more
realistic.

Time Management
Over the course of the whole of the production phase, the full 9 weeks including term, I had spent planning filming days, going
out gathering footage, and editing my video in regards to my trailer, because I had also spent time working on my teaser trailer,
poster, DVD cover, and bus advertisement in-between this.
Over the course of the first 5 weeks I had spent solely on gathering footage and photography for my trailer and print products, as
some of the filming locations was also hotspots for my posters, and so spending all this time getting footage, my time
management and my own undecisive decisions meant this had unfortunately gone overdraft into the first week working on my
evaluation, spending a total of 10 weeks gathering footage in what should have been only 2 – 5 weeks; although 10 weeks
sounds like a very long time, which it is, in my case this wasn’t too much of an issue because my actor was only accessible to do
filming on weekends, more specifically 7 of the 10 weekend, with this in mind it still begs to differ that I spent too long filming,
but when I had started to edit my final trailer roughly 5 weeks in, I had come to terms with myself and peers that the structure
and shots needed a lot of attention and changing around. And so, from week 5, and a change in the shot lists, structure, and
feature effects, I had started collecting more footage, in addition to the recordings I had already gotten, improving the original
concept, hence having 2 shortlists in my planning PowerPoint.
Aside from this, I had really started bringing my trailer together in the editing software from week 5, starting off by structuring it
all with titles, then adding in the footage over the next 4 weeks, I had finished the first variant of my trailer; I say first variant
because after getting some other peoples opinions, I proceeded to adjust certain bits, add in the final finishing touches, and
created the trailer you see by the 10th week from finishing the planning phase and going into the production phase, despite the
fact that I had slightly gone into my evaluation week.
Looking back at at how far I've come with my trailer, I'm happy to have finally fully completed it seeing my journey in this aspect,
but time management wise, this section had gone pretty horribly for reasons including having gone into the next phase slightly
(evaluation), and changing a lot of the plan I had made in my planning documentation halfway through, however, its now been
finished for a week writing this up and its an amazing success in my eyes.

Improvements
Although how pleased I am with the outcome of my trailer, I would consider changing a few aspects to it looking
back, nothing significant, it would only be changes to shots like the car one in day 1, the length of the black screen at
the very beginning, the quality of the title at the end of the trailer, and some of the color grading in places where my
main character looks orange for instance.
With the intentions of carrying on the introduction shot leaving the house, I had followed up a car scene driving down a
road where she looks into the camera from the rear-view mirror; not only is the framing of the shot off in the sense
that you probably didn’t realize she purposefully looked at the camera, but the color grading here, especially because
its day, looks orange in a sense when focusing on her hand. Probably re-taking the shot, because I like the idea of
leaving her house and continuing the story in a sense, I think a close up of the steering wheel not only would improve
the quality, because the camera doesn't have to focus in on a fast-moving background, but it still advocates her leaving
as a continuation.
Its worth mentioning that throughout the trailer at points, the
color grading and quality of the camera does differ
quite significantly in places, although hard to find, re-doing the
color grading by lowering the contrast so I don’t have
orange skin, and upping the shadows for shots like the footsteps
walking for instance, I think will work better with the way the rest
of the trailer ends up turning into, quite dark and threatening.

What had I done
Following on from my poster under the print product category to my FMP, I had not only spent almost 2 weeks applying
typical features you see on both poster and DVD covers across the industry, but I had also mocked up and made extra
features that stand out more, improving the overall aesthetic, style, layout, and synergy between the pages in regard to the
colors and design as a whole in comparison to my trailer and poster.
Applying the poster I had made for my front cover, with the exclusion of the release date title across the top half, although
how pleased I am with the outcome of this product making up a part of my FMP, acknowledging the fact that I'm making a
DVD cover, I had come to the conclusion that I needed to add more than simply the poster for reasons surrounding the fact
that I wanted to show a broader range of my skills in this area; with this in mind, I had added my slogan across the top, some
made up film reviews embedded into the side wall of the image, a film rating, and finally some extra written information
about myself as the director, all onto the front cover in correlation with the color schemes I'm following.
Slogan – Located across the top half of my DVD cover front page, I had opted to including my film tagline/slogan in
replacement of the release date that was there previously on the poster I had used, both because a release date wouldn’t
make sense on a DVD cover, given the film is already released, and although I could have just left it, the empty space was very
eye-drawing when everything else compiled on top of the cover, and so the idea of including my slogan sounded and looked
much better when I had come to include it; it's worth mentioning when deciding whether or not to include it, my slogan is
also present in my film teaser advertisement, therefore creating a strong sense of synergy between the two products,
something I had intended on demonstrating across all of my outcomes from an early stage that helped decided on its
inclusion, especially when considering it can help relieve a sense of understanding more to not only the narrative with the
word choice in my tagline, but also in the genre for similar reasons. Using a more liner font (serif) with edges coming off of
the letters, this symbolized danger, particularly when adding in a gradient overlay to make it 3D almost like a knife for
instance, all whilst following through with my color's schemes of yellow, white, and red in association with the rest of my
outcomes and the project as a whole.

What had I done
Film Reviews – Made from text I had written up from using the 'Dafont' website, in addition to a mixture of tools in the
blending options and from what's available to me on the photoshop program, particularly transforming and 'distorting', and
had created the review text effect you see engraved into the slide of the wall, including the stars beside; I had recognized
early on into my DVD's creation that on the front cover, particularly the top and either side of the main image, that I needed
to fill in some of these empty spaces, and so with a mixture of some of the ideals in relation to my film poster and some of
the typical values you see in the industry, I had come to create this feature under the influence of sustaining a partially
minimal style, by blending it into the wall and using the 'distort' process described in my production reflection, whilst keeping
it somewhat vibrant and eye-catching to fulfill the values of film promotion, by applying my yellow and red color scheme with
a faint white outline for more an umph.
Taking quite a lot of my time to create
and get right for the
atmosphere I'm targeting, I
would consider it a very
successful outcome at both showing
some unique values in my work style,
while also addressing some of the
typical expectations in film related
products, forming a relatability and
appreciation from my audience for
the most part of both judgements.

What had I done
Film Rating – Quite a minimal feature to the front cover in comparison to the likes of my
film reviews, title, or any other written information, located at the bottom right hand
corner of the page, the inclusion of a 15 rated film logo, that had been fused into the
ground to suit the blended in aesthetic of my other features, meant that I could not only
help establish the thriller genre slightly more, as I would incline its only suitable for the
ages of 15 plus, but adhearing to the requirements of information for a dvd covers in the
indsutry, this feature adds a sense of relatability in my auidence when linking back to
other existing DVD covers, at the same time as removing the white and making the red a
slightly darker tone, it fit perfectly in with the color scheme I was following.
Directors Information – Despite the front cover at this point being completely
fine and acceptable, there was something perculiar about the page that still
didn’t make much sense to me, and so with this in mind, I had recognised once
looking at a few existing covers that the inclusion of some directors
infomration worked well in my case; because it built up a more personal
relationship and connection with the film when getting some background
information on the maker, I had done the same, keeping the font and colors
similar, I used my unique approach and embedded it into the ground above the
main titel as a way of forming a connectioon before seeing the masthead, this
way it was more persusasive and tehrefore effective at its job of promotion.
Highlighting the more important words in the text to help elaborate a direct
adress to my auidence, in hopes that it would be more grasping, I had
duplicated the individual words and brightened their contrast, taking what was
only less than a lesson and therefore a very productive use of my time.

What had I done
Spine – For the spine located in the middle of my DVD cover, the addition of the title was an easy inclusion given
every film DVD cover every has such mentioned along this part, however, id come to realize that a lot included
an image of the front cover in the spine as well, often in a little box at the top, so following through with these
existing products I had seen, the result didn’t work out, instead scrapping the idea and replacing it with two
logos in the spine, a universal one in white and a DVD one in yellow to follow through with my colors schemes of
yellow, white, red, and you could also consider black to be up there with it. Looking at DVD covers for
inspiration, I had come across the 'babadook' film dvd cover which caught my attention for the use of
glossy/shiny text, seen a lot of the time on such products, I thought if I could reference my tagline 'Hide', 'Run',
and 'survive' into the side here, overlapping one another in different shades of black/grey in this glossy text, as
you can see in the image beside, this finalized my spine. Although you cant see a glossy effect on the typed up
words because I had made it digitally, I was pleased with the outcome and not adding in any extra features with
the thought process of keeping in slightly minimal to cross over my poster and general style.
Image Choice – Crossing over to the back page now, I had come to decide that my main image choice, being the
tall silhouette of the trees captured from footage in my trailer, was the most suiting in this case because the
image itself captured the atmosphere I've being trying the get across throughout all of my print products,
because it reflects the ideals of a threatening and dangerous place, remaining quite omniscient, the image itself
is also very aesthetically pleasing to look at because of the strong focus of the sunlight peering through. In
addition to this, not only does the image link directly across my film poster and text written in the tree,
capturing a similar style of silhouette in that particular part, but its worth mentioning, although only subtle and
small, that I had gone on to include a black figure creeping in the image nearer to the bottom right, which is
effective because in the final scenes of the trailer you don’t see the 'figure' but presume its around the area, and
well this clarifies that judgement almost immediately in the fine eyed people who spot it.

What had I done
Tear Strip – Used as a common feature in existing DVD covers across the industry, having images on the back in my case is
used to keep an interest in my audience by giving examples of what you could see in the film, and what better way than to do
this in the style of a page tear across the back, blending in 3 images with one another if some of the more obscure location
were introduced to; in this feature, its important to understand that, aside from the images directly referencing my trailer as
we see each of these shots in the video, the effect having a page tear implies both the sense of anger and stress in my film,
because it takes such actions to rip up a piece of paper, whilst reflecting the psychological and hidden meanings I've wanted
to get across, acting as a way of hiding something by removing it from the page in replacement of this - and coincidently this
could be linking to the fact that I have half the figure shown in the image above at the bottom right, addressing the fact that
the 'figure' is try to conceal themselves from the reality of the world and this image by tearing it up and somewhat failing to
do so.
