1. Evaluation 1
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
2. For this question I am going to focus on what I have used
in my finished versions that are similar to the conventions
used in a real media product. I created a music magazine
for the Hip-Hop/Grime genre. I am going to look at the
features I have used in my magazine that relate to this
genre. On the next slide are my final media products, the
front cover, contents page and double page spreads.
Introduction
4. Media Conventions
I have looked at the types of media conventions that I used in my
music magazine and how I applied them to make my magazine
genre known.
- Colour Schemes
- Clothing related to Hip-Hop/ Grime genre
- Photographs/ Camera Shots
- Typical Headlines
These are just a few media conventions that I have kept
throughout the magazine. I will now go on to look at these
individually and how I have linked them with the genre of the
magazine.
5. Colour Schemes
The colour schemes are kept the
same throught most music
magazine. I looked at some other
magazines front covers that have
linked their colour schemes with
clothing the model is wearing in
the main image so all the colours
on the front cover are matching.
The colours also have to fit in and
stand out against the background,
they need to be bright but also
simple. Looking at other music
magazines and their colour
schemes helped me to decide on
my own colour scheme.
6. Clothing Related to Hip- Hop/
Grime Genre
When I looked at the clothing for
the Hip-Hop/ Grime genre, I
looked at artists that dressed and
wore clothing that fit in with this
genre such as Ed Sheeran,
Example and Profressor Green. I
mostly found that the main
clothing worn by these artists are
padded jackets, shirts, sweatshirts
and jeans. I also found pictures of
these artists wearing this sort of
clothing.
7. Photographs/ Camera Shots
Photographs are very important
especially on the front cover as
these are the first images that the
reader will see on the magazine,
they have to capture the readers
attention. I looked at other music
magazines photographs related
to the hip-hop/ grime genre. I
looked at the front covers that Ed
Sheeran was displayed in as he is
one artist that fits in with my
genre. I found that some front
cover kept the background
behind the artist so I decided I
would also keep the background
on my front cover.
8. Typical Headlines
Headlines and cover lines are mainly
put around the main image so that the
image is clear and not covered up in
places. I once again looked at front
covers to get an idea of what cover
lines a real media product would use.
The cover lines I saw were very eye
catching in colour and the language
they use to get you interested in their
magazines.
