This document provides recommendations for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and glucocorticoids (GCs) from a EULAR task force. It includes:
1) Three overarching principles for RA care: rheumatologists should primarily care for RA patients; treatment should be a shared decision between patient and rheumatologist aiming for best care; and RA treatment is expensive considering both medical and productivity costs.
2) Fifteen recommendations on DMARD and treatment strategy management based on evidence from systematic literature reviews. The recommendations cover initiating synthetic DMARDs early, aiming for remission, and preferences for specific drugs and treatment approaches.
