Basic collection policy
Items that serve the needs of the citizens of Oregon, and the research & teaching missions of each school
Designed to support the digital assets or cultural heritage objects that fall into the collection policy of each respective institution
Oregon Digital doesn’t collect ETD’s, research data, pre/post print articles, chapters, grey literature, formal forms of scholarly communication, or GIS data.
Basically, if it belongs in a research or data repository, it doesn’t belong in Oregon Digital. Yet.
Why we joined forces in the first place (2008) – collaboration & information sharing. Also staff sharing.
We fully expect that our collaborations in regards to Hydra will expand to include items like research or data repositories, but we’re currently developing those plans.
Etc
Initially in 2010, then re-engaged in February 2012, E & K got together and presented the idea of exploring options other than ContentDM.
Reviewed what was in the field, what met our needs best.
Some resistance at the time since neither Islandora or Hydra had huge followings.
What were the staffing expectations of each institution
This is the piece I think is most important to Faye – WHY we chose Islandora and then WHY we chose Hydra. What did it offer us.
Islandora Test failed.
Also failed at the Alliance though for a different reason.
Tom came back from a conference and said, Hydra is ready for prime time. So we pursued a test of Hydra.
Spent 6 months building the prototype. Showed it, all parties were in support. Moved forward with full development.
12 months of further development
Went fully live September 1
What’s changed in our development environments to support this
How that’s important moving forward
