Emotions are an unstoppable and uncontrollable aspect of mental state of human. Some bad situations give
stress and leads to different sufferings. One can’t avoid situation but can have awareness when body feel
stress or any other emotion. It becomes easy for doctors whose patient is not in condition to speak. In that
case person’s physiological parameters are measured to decide emotional status. While experiencing
different emotion, there are also physiological changes taking place in the human body, like variations in
the heart rate (ECG/HRV), skin conductance (GSR), breathing rate(BR), blood volume pulse(BVP),brain
waves (EEG), temperature and muscle tension. These were some of the metrics to sense emotive coefficient.
This research paper objective is to design and develop a portable, cost effective and low power
embedded system that can predict different emotions by using Naïve Bayes classifiers which are based on
probability models that incorporate class conditional independence assumptions. Inputs to this system are
various physiological signals and are extracted by using different sensors. Portable microcontroller used
in this embedded system is MSP430F2013 to automatically monitor the level of stress in computer. This
paper reports on the hardware and software instrumentation development and signal processing approach
used to detect the stress level of a subject.To check the device's performance, few experiments were done in
which 20 adults (ten women and ten men) who completed different tests requiring a certain degree of effort,
such as showing facing intense interviews in office.

The heart is connected through the nervous system directly to major organs and is able to sense
their need. The heart also responds to adrenaline in the blood flowing through it. With these
inputs the heart is able to adjust its rate to accommodate the needs of the whole body. By its
heartbeat, it is able to broadcast a common signal to every cell. One measure of heart health is
Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV is defined in terms of how different the lengths of time
between each heart beat is. The greater the difference in times between heart beats, the
healthier is the heart thought to be. Individuals may be able to learn to increase their own HRV
and become healthier by a daily meditation practice. This paper uses Heart Variability as the
base signal for studying the impact of meditation on it. The paper brings out the difference
between pre and post meditation conditions in terms qualitative measure of Power Spectral
Density (PSD) variations using Smoothed Pseudo Wigner Ville (SPWVD) distribution method.The simulations highlight the meditation effects overtime period in PSDs

This paper displays standardized measurements to examine the skin conductance level (SCL) as an index for the sympathetic nervous system’s activity considering a possible standardization of personal variability. SCL measurements were performed at baseline, Cold-Pressor-Tests and Stroop Tests for 15 subjects and inter- and intra-individual mean SCL values were examined. The logarithmic representation displays a high inter-individual variability, denoted by a high fluctuation range of the absolute values and SCL amplitudes. A standardization of inter-individuality could not be achieved by the applied methods (range correction and z-transformation). For the relative intra-individual comparison of the stress situation to the baseline, a method of correction for the determination of the real effect of sympathetic activation was established. EDA should be combined with other parameters of the ANS for a more precise evaluation of stress situations in the context of changes in blood pressure.

Experimental psychology, cognitive science or, more recently, cognitive neuroscience, is the main framework to place human information processing under extensive empirical scrutiny. The last decade has seen a surge of interest in the application of psychological measurements for evaluating increasingly complex human-technology interactions. While most welcome from the psychological perspective, we propose that the use of these methodologies should not rely only on the application of sophisticated measurement tools, but also on the application of contemporary knowledge on psychological phenomena and dynamics of human information processing. In addition, we argue that the latest developments in multimodal signals and data mining techniques offer a unique opportunity to extend psychological methodologies to large scale testing grounds. Thus, the application of psychological knowledge to information retrieval research will not only be beneficial for the latter, but for the former as well, inasmuch as information retrieval provides a real field of application for its hypotheses about human information processing.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is the measure of time difference between two successive heart beats and its
variation occurring due to internal and external stimulation causes. HRV is a non-invasive tool for indirect
investigation of both cardiac and autonomic system function in both healthy and diseased condition. It has
been speculated that HRV analysis by nonlinear method might bring potentially useful prognosis
information into light which will be helpful for assessment of cardiac condition. In this study, HRV from
two types of data sets are analyzed which are collected from different subjects in the age group of 18 to 22.
Then parameters of linear methods and three nonlinear methods, approximate entropy (ApEn), detrended
fluctuation analysis (DFA) and Poincare plot have been applied to analyze HRV among 158 subjects of
which 79 are control study and 79 are alcoholics. It has been clearly shown that the linear and nonlinear
parameters obtained from these two methods reflect the opposite heart condition of the two types of data
under study among alcoholics non-alcoholic’s by HRV measures. Poincare plot clearly distinguishes
between the alcoholics by analysing the location of points in the ellipse of the Poincare plot. In alcoholics
the points of the Poincare plot will be concentrated at the centre of the ellipse and in nonalchoholics the
points will be much concentrated along the periphery of the ellipse. The Approximate Entropy value will be
lesser than one in alcoholics and in nonalcoholics the entropy shows values greater than one. The
increased LF/HF value in alcoholics denotes the increase in sympathetic nervous system activities and
decrease of the parasympathetic activity which will be lesser in alcoholics subjects.

We aimed to develop the method for estimating body posture and physical activity by acceleration signals from a Holter electrocardiographic (ECG) recorder with built-in accelerometer. In healthy young subjects, triaxial-acceleration and ECG signal were recorded with the Holter ECG recorder attached on their chest wall. During the recording, they randomly took eight postures, including supine, prone, left and right recumbent, standing, sitting in a reclining chair, sitting in chairs with and without backrest, and performed slow walking and fast walking. Machine learning (Random Forest) was performed on acceleration and ECG variables. The best discrimination model was obtained when the maximum values and standard deviations of accelerations in three axes and mean R-R interval were used as feature values. The overall discrimination accuracy was 79.2% (62.6-90.9%). Supine, prone, left recumbent, and slow and fast walk were discriminated with >80% accuracy, although sitting and standing positions were not discriminated by this method.

Sleep plays an important role as it helps human body to rejuvenate, boosts mental function and manage stress. Sleep is restorative function which enhances muscle growth, repairs tissues, maintains health and make physical appearance look or feel better. The lack of sleep in human body can increase the risk of diseases which are asthma, diabetes, depression. For healthy physiological function, sleep is essential and has strong relation to mental condition. Easy way of sleep management is considered for maintaining good mental health. Numerous scientists, doctors and researchers have proposed various ways to monitor sleep, some of those best tests are polysomnography test and actigraphy test. However, taking sleep test covering the whole body with wires and electrodes which is polysomnography test is uncomfortable for patients, and sensors used for different approaches like this are costly and often require overnight treatment and expert monitoring in clinics. Therefore, easy way of detecting roll-over movements which is convenient for patients to wear is proposed. Accelerometer ADXL335 sensor is taped on socks during sleep which is comfortable for patients to wear and do not cause any inconvenience during sleep. Algorithm is proposed to read the dataset and count the roll-over during the sleep based on threshold. Resulting the number of roll-over detected during a sleep period.

Machine learning (Random Forest) was performed on acceleration and ECG variables. The best discrimination model was obtained when the maximum values and standard deviations of accelerations in three axes and mean R-R interval were used as feature values. The overall discrimination accuracy was 79.2% (62.6-90.9%). Supine, prone, left recumbent, and slow and fast walk were discriminated with >80% accuracy, although sitting and standing positions were not discriminated by this method.

We aimed to develop the method for estimating body posture and physical activity by acceleration signals from a Holter electrocardiographic (ECG) recorder with built-in accelerometer. In healthy young subjects, triaxial-acceleration and ECG signal were recorded with the Holter ECG recorder attached on their chest wall. During the recording, they randomly took eight postures, including supine, prone, left and right recumbent, standing, sitting in a reclining chair, sitting in chairs with and without backrest, and performed slow walking and fast walking. Sleep plays an important role as it helps human body to rejuvenate, boosts mental function and manage stress. Sleep is restorative function which enhances muscle growth, repairs tissues, maintains health and make physical appearance look or feel better. The lack of sleep in human body can increase the risk of diseases which are asthma, diabetes, depression. For healthy physiological function, sleep is essential and has strong relation to mental condition. Easy way of sleep management is considered for maintaining good mental health. Numerous scientists, doctors and researchers have proposed various ways to monitor sleep, some of those best tests are polysomnography test and actigraphy test. However, taking sleep test covering the whole body with wires and electrodes which is polysomnography test is uncomfortable for patients, and sensors used for different approaches like this are costly and often require overnight treatment and expert monitoring in clinics. Therefore, easy way of detecting roll-over movements which is convenient for patients to wear is proposed. Accelerometer ADXL335 sensor is taped on socks during sleep which is comfortable for patients to wear and do not cause any inconvenience during sleep. Algorithm is proposed to read the dataset and count the roll-over during the sleep based on threshold. Resulting the number of roll-over detected during a sleep period.

Recomendações da OMS sobre cuidados maternos e neonatais para uma experiência pós-natal positiva.
Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. Estas diretrizes atualizam e ampliam as recomendações da OMS de 2014 sobre cuidados pós-natais da mãe e do recém-nascido e complementam as atuais diretrizes da OMS sobre a gestão de complicações pós-natais.
O estabelecimento da amamentação e o manejo das principais intercorrências é contemplada.

Explain the structure and location of the olfactory membrane and mucosa, including the types and roles of cells involved in olfaction.
Describe the pathway and mechanisms of olfactory signal transmission from the olfactory receptors to the brain.
Illustrate the biochemical cascade triggered by odorant binding to olfactory receptors, including the role of G-proteins and second messengers in generating an action potential.
Identify different types of olfactory disorders such as anosmia, hyposmia, hyperosmia, and dysosmia, including their potential causes.

Olfactory Genes:
3% of the human genome accounts for olfactory genes.
400 genes for odorant receptors.
Olfactory Membrane:
Located in the superior part of the nasal cavity.
Medially: Folds downward along the superior septum.
Laterally: Folds over the superior turbinate and upper surface of the middle turbinate.
Total surface area: 5-10 square centimeters.
Olfactory Mucosa:
Olfactory Cells: Bipolar nerve cells derived from the CNS (100 million), with 4-25 olfactory cilia per cell.
Sustentacular Cells: Produce mucus and maintain ionic and molecular environment.
Basal Cells: Replace worn-out olfactory cells with an average lifespan of 1-2 months.
Bowman’s Gland: Secretes mucus.
Stimulation of Olfactory Cells:
Odorant dissolves in mucus and attaches to receptors on olfactory cilia.
Involves a cascade effect through G-proteins and second messengers, leading to depolarization and action potential generation in the olfactory nerve.
Quality of a Good Odorant:
Small (3-20 Carbon atoms), volatile, water-soluble, and lipid-soluble.
Facilitated by odorant-binding proteins in mucus.
Membrane Potential and Action Potential:
Resting membrane potential: -55mV.
Action potential frequency in the olfactory nerve increases with odorant strength.
Adaptation Towards the Sense of Smell:
Rapid adaptation within the first second, with further slow adaptation.
Psychological adaptation greater than receptor adaptation, involving feedback inhibition from the central nervous system.
Primary Sensations of Smell:
Camphoraceous, Musky, Floral, Pepperminty, Ethereal, Pungent, Putrid.
Odor Detection Threshold:
Examples: Hydrogen sulfide (0.0005 ppm), Methyl-mercaptan (0.002 ppm).
Some toxic substances are odorless at lethal concentrations.
Characteristics of Smell:
Odor blindness for single substances due to lack of appropriate receptor protein.
Behavioral and emotional influences of smell.
Transmission of Olfactory Signals:
From olfactory cells to glomeruli in the olfactory bulb, involving lateral inhibition.
