On Tuesday, August 29, 2017 I felt nervous with numerous questions and thoughts running through
my mind. Why? It was my first day of WMST 250. "I hope my professor is nice," "She didn't have
any reviews on ratemyprofessors.com," (Yes...I did look you up! LOL!) and "I wonder what the
course material is going to be?" These questions and thoughts raced through my mind on the first
day of class. As the semester progressed I became less nervous and my thoughts were about course
material. The questions we started off with were about feminism. Before our first class we were
assigned to watch "We Should All Be Feminists" TED Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Also,
for our first class activity we had to order images from least to most feminism. Before I began this
activity I googled the definition of feminism because truthfully, I was not familiar with feminism or
feminist besides my knowledge from the TED Talk. In addition, one of our first readings was
"Feminist Politics: Where We Stand" by Bell Hooks. Given these three indicators the questions we
started off with were about feminism. This course was divided into experiences based off our
assignments. Our assignments included Reading Responses, Museum Visit Writing Assignment,
Presentation in Pairs, Art–Activist Intervention, and Final Learning Analysis. The reading responses
allowed students to ask questions and keep the reader engaged while reading. Personally, if I did
not have to create questions from the readings I would not have been engaged in the reading or
read as carefully as I did. The Museum Visit Writing Assignment allowed students to go outside of
their comfort zone and feel a sense of belonging in an unfamiliar place. Many of us either have
not been to a museum or if we had been to a museum, we did not look at the art with a feminist
perspective. Cara wanted us to feel like we belonged at museums and her goal was accomplished
on my end. I do not visit museums regularly, so I feared I would not fit in. I quickly learned
anyone and everyone can go to a museum. Also, this experience allowed me to view art in a

Women who do work have a hard time obtaining maternity leave. Maternity leave is a 12 week
unpaid time when the new and or parents who have adopted are allowed off of work, but yet it's
an unpaid time period. So you don't get paid for caring for a child, how is that fair, we are raising
the next generation? Women just can't get enough. From the media to the work force and now
onto public places. In a recent CDC study in 2011, found that 1 in 5 women reported being
sexually assaulted. That is just the reported cases! Given the scenario of a group of women out at

Feminism, a term misunderstood by many, feared by many, and understood by many, holds different
connotations for different people. Females, who constitute about half of the population, have fought
for their progression and respect in society since the beginning of time. Unfortunately, due to class
divisions, different races, and locations, this fight has held different meanings for different women.
Similar to how one individual's experiences never equally represent the whole population, solely
viewing the feminist movements based on the experiences of American women does not encompass

Harding (1987) acknowledges there are three feminist methodologies depending on the relationship
between experience and theory the researcher takes. These differences are based on epistemology
and the research approach, instead of data collection (Davidson & Tolich, 2003), and each
methodology shapes the research methods used (Skeggs, 1995). The first is feminist empiricism
developed in the 1960s–1970s. It opposed the universality of male experience, and the partial

history women and men were never thought of as equal. When put up next to the strong, dominant
male, females were often thought of as lower and not nearly as important. Even now though, as we

Clinton might just become the first women's president, I have to say that I am probably one of the

Women even have a whole different neurological makeup in their system just to enfisize the fact that
we are emotionally unstable compared to men. We go through much more emotional highs and lows
when compared on a chart to men. Women were meant to have more emotions than men however
and were made to typically get more emotional and more dramatic at times.
With men being physically stronger than women I am all for them being the ones with the jobs,
especially jobs such as: a policeman, a fireman, a construction worker, etc. Bringing in the income
is what the men always did and what they still should do today, regardless if his wife works as
well. Women can't lift as heavy of objects as men nor be able to handle a 6'2'' man when he grabs
you around the arms and is so much stronger than you that you cant get away. Exactly the reason
women were meant to stay home in the house. Men were also meant to be the protector of the
women. With their strong physic, why would this be any other way? Why is there a phrase "man of
the house" and not "woman of the house?" It's simple really. Men are stronger mentally and
physically and are more capable of running the household. If a couple were being robbed, its not
like the woman is going to be the one jumping out of bed with a bat in her hand ready to defend her

there to be a hierarchal gap between the sexes, with men being viewed as more substantial than

men, it equates to how the sexes should be equal and intertwined with how some girls are
masculine and some boys are feminine. Toxic masculinity has a great deal to do with how some
men view themselves and the way they treat themselves and others. Feminism incorporates this
into some aspects of its views and the way children should be treated; gender roles shouldn't be
incorporated, and children should be left to be who they are. Recently, John Lewis removed 'boys'
and 'girls' labels from their clothes to avoid "reinforcing gender stereotypes". Louise Eccles for the

After women won the right to vote, the second wave of feminism began in the 1960s and continued
on to the 90's. This wave was highly associated with the anti–war and civil rights movement and the
movement started growing conscious to a variety of minority groups all over the world. Out of three
waves, the second wave's voice was increasingly radical and theoretical as sexuality and reproductive
rights were dominant issues. Protest began in Atlantic City in 1968 and 1969 against the Miss
America Pageant. Many activists thought it to be a degrading "cattle parade" that reduced women to
only objects produced by the patriarchy. Along with fighting against sexism in cartoons and politics,
second wave feminists found their voice among other movements such as Civil Rights and the
