Cannabinoids Vs Synthetic Drugs
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines synthetic as made by combining different substances: not
natural. It also defines a drug as a substance recognized in an official pharmacopoeia or formulary.
(Merriam Webster dictionary 2016). Synthetic drugs have been compounded chemically to be
equivalent to marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine which can be purchased over the counter at
local convenience stores, gas stations and smoke shops. The synthetic drugs are divided into two
different categories according to their chemical makeup. The first category is known as
Cannabinoids, which is also known as K2 or Spice. The cannabinoids groups are lab manufactured

Snow blow is similar to cocaine and methamphetamine, but is much more dangerous because the
quality of the product isn t as pure as the other drugs. People put themselves in extreme dangerous
when using synthetic drugs because they don t know what chemicals they are putting in their
bodies. The individual products can contain a vast assortment of unusual chemical formulations and
potencies which are more harmful then the original version of the synthetic drug. The brain s
communication system is disrupted a long with the nerve cells and how it receives and sends
information through the body. The disruption in the brain can take place by either imitating the
brain s massagers or over stimulating the reward circuit in the brain, which can result in problems.
The brain already has some structures called neurotransmitters which are naturally produced by the
brain that are similar to the drugs consumed. The similarity can result in the brain s receptors being

Essay On American Antisemitism
Racism is over. This is the defense of many white citizens of both Europe and America when
they re called racist, or something is called thus. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many
reasons, from the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the
standards of beauty fair skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem,
however, and an issue that is often overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European
countries, and even in America. From vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current
situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed.
Most white Americans and Europeans of today like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten
past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of the world, this isn t the case. There are
still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on where you re looking. Greek was
recently revealed to be the most anti semitic country in Europe, with 69 percent of Greeks
espousing anti Semitic views, according to the survey, Greece was on par with Saudi Arabia, more
anti Semitic than Iran... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The crisis started with Crimea, when soldiers began to take control of strategic positions in the
Ukrainian territory. Russia then annexed the small territory, while Putin denied Russian military

groundwork for what is known as the Crimean Status Referendum. While a ceasefire has been

Microeconomics And The Laws Of Supply And Demand Essay
Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand Microeconomics and the Law of Demand
as reviewed in the Khan Academy videos are a simple enlightening of the business cycle. The
descriptive teaching and evolving facts of real life cause and effects in the cycle of business
production and supply are an exquisite piece of material. The concepts relation to
microeconomics are demand, markets cost and price, they are listed in true relation to the area s
they occupy in analysis of the mathematical formula of how they are defined in economic
literature and explanation. Through each cycle of change they apply to business production. The
concepts role is used to identify economical factors that allow adjustment in areas that may affect
revenues in put and out put or Short run or Long run, margins cost and market distribution tied to
overall success. In the form of efficiency and growth, if a solid understanding is applied using a
structured fiscal plan with total cost, resources cost, production cost, market and demand will
provide an upper hand in preventing fiscal self destruction. The mathematical approach and visual
graphing, price vs. quantity of production will provide a stopping point for the companies buyer,
providing reason for limitations as the identifier to prevent probable revenue/cost inflation or loss.
As identified above Demand, Marketing and Price are categorized as microeconomics, due to the
cause and effect they share in relation to one another. If there is a

James Fennimore s Last Of The Mohicans
The book last of Mohicans is a really good novel that gives a lot of action, romanticism and
suspense, really gets the reader going. James Fennimore cooper really gave a historical background
writing the novel last of the Mohicans. The novel represents the Mohicans (Mahican) and the parts
of the history. James Fennimore cooper really had an accurate noveland an outstanding point of
view. The Mohican tribe was really interesting and they originally came from the banks of the
Hudson River, where it is now New York State. They also lived in many other places but
unfortunately the Europeans came and killed many Mohicans. The surviving Mohicans had to
move to the west. Later on the Mohicans moved to Stockbridge where they live today. The
Mohican children lived like any other child they did there chores went to school and played
games but there was a bit difference in today s children then in the Mohicans back then. The
Mohicans children used to do more chores then they would play but what was really interesting is
how they played the games, they were given miniature arrows where they would hunt for small
animals and would often play ball games similar to soccer but a bit different, instead of using your
feet you would use a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Issue Of Corporate Greed
In exploring the issue of corporate greed, especially on Wall Street, we can decide if an issue is
overblown by asking one question, Can a life ruining, economy changing financial crisis be
skewed for dramatic effect? The Big Short tells the story of the financial crisis of 2008 and
tackles the issue of corporate greed in the form of the true stories of a few men who saw the
crisis coming. The issue is not overblown at all. This can be observed by simply looking to the
devastation and chaos caused by banks trying to make money by preying on the poor and un
informed in the years following 2008. Most of us are old enough to remember the mind
numbingly large number of people that were affected in several ways when the housing market
crashed. Unfortunately, many are also old enough to have been directly affected by the choices
big banks made for decades. Because there was such a large event directly caused by the issue of
corporate greed, there are plenty examples in daily life to suggest that The Big Short does not
skew the issue for dramatic effect. Almost all economists have weighed in on the economic
failure in journals discussing topics such as corporate greed and the aftermath of the collapse. In
terms of severity, the financial collapse of 2008 is second only to the Great Depression in
American history. This fact alone is enough to prove that The Big Short did not skew the issue for
dramatic effect. But looking deeper into the situation, we can see that

Hills Like White Elephant Rhetorical Analysis
Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephant is about a conversation between American man and
his girlfriend at a train station during their transit to Madrid. While the author does not specify the
type of surgery the girl is headed to, but with the great use of euphuism, Hemingway hints towards
the operation being an abortion. Although the idea of the story is about couple s conversation, the
reader can perceive that neither truly communicates and can sense the rift between them. During
the beginning of the story, the conversation between the couple strikes normal: it seems like two
young individuals in love getting away for a romantic gateway. Ordering beers and trying new
alcohol while an effort to tell joke shows the couples love and

Swot Analysis Of Spirit Airlines Marketing
Spirit Airlines Marketing Strategies
Since deregulation, the most influential driver of profit in the airline industry has been the control
of ticket distribution (Shaw, 2013). Spirit Airlines, the leading ultra low cost, no frills carrier; the
worst all around carrier charges for every ancillary product. Established under Airline Segmentation,
Spirit targets price sensitive, business class, middle class, students and solo travelers within
psychographics (Zigu, 2017). Consequently, this paper will discuss the carrier; ticket distribution
channels, pricing strategy, and product promotion.
Marketing Strategies
Direct and Indirect marketing channels
In fact, Spirit Airlines ticket distribution through both Direct and Indirect channels, marketing
philosophy set forth efforts to exploit the profits (Tnooz, 2011). With direct distribution, the airline
directly distributes tickets conventionally to the customers, using the internet as its primary
disbursement channel. Whereas the indirect channel involves selling through channel
intermediaries like wholesalers and retailers.
Direct Channel
Arguably, Spirit s website is predominantly the most economical distribution channel, with the
cheapest fares that records over three quarter of ticket sales. (Tnooz, 2011). Ordinarily, the
advantages of this channel eliminate; markups and commissions to intermediaries, foster customer
relationships, and prevents market leverage or play one airline off against another. Likewise, the

The Roaring Twenties Research Paper
The Roaring Twenties The 1920s, also called the roaring twenties for the change in culture to be
more freewhelling, was a time of innovation to the American people. This time was a time of
lavish items, such as the Ford Model A. American dream seemed to be possible to almost
everyone. The roaring twenties gave works of literature, music and dance, and art. Everything
seemed to be great for almost everyone. Literature was very popular in the 1920s. People were
expected to be educated on how to read, and understand what they read. During this time many
authors published great works, such as The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Sun Also

Egyptian Women Research Paper
All over the world women are fighting for equal rights by writing, protesting, chanting and much
more. All of these different forms of protests are shining a light on the increasing amount of
sexual assault happening in different countries around the world. In the recent decade, the Middle
East has come in and out of the news for the lack of progressive laws concerning women s rights.
They have also gotten attention for all the revolts that seem to be taking place there. These
revolutions may seem old and out of date but one is going on right now. With only spray paint and
hopes for a better future, Egyptian women have broken their silence concerning equal rights and
sexual harassment. I believe this movement is the first of its kind and this rise of women is more
powerful than any past attempts in Egypt.

The Arab world is very old fashion and often times backwards when addressing moral rules, as
well as political rules. For example, if a married man catches his wife red handed in a crime, and
kills her and her partner, he does not face intentional murder charges or even manslaughter; he
only gets a sentence as low as 24 hours. If a wife catches her husband red handed and kills him,
she immediately faces murder charges with the availability of a maximum sentence (*). Girls and

Collonization Of Australia And Indigenous Australian People
Identify the primary factors which led to the colonisation of Australia and Indigenous Australian
peoples and explain the theories of race which supported this process.
This essay identifies the primary factors which led to the colonisation of Australia and Indigenous
Australian peoples while explaining how race theories were used to justify colonising Australia.
Many factors led to the colonisation of Australia including British Imperialism, but the penal
colony was very important so the British pushed on, whether they had the right to or not. Race
was a theory and using sources, this essay explores different opinions and perspectives of the race
theories. The Indigenous Australian people were on the lower end of the Great Chain of Being and
therefore, were treated as inferior to the Europeans.
British colonialism emerged from rapid political, social and economic change and this affected the
development of technology and a strong sense of national pride and identity which led the way for
the British Empire to be a global power. Due to the Industrial Revolution, the majority of the
population lived in the city which created poor living conditions and overcrowding. With low
economic rates, many people were pushed into theft to feed their families and in turn, the crime
rates rose significantly. Many convicts were sentenced to transportation and were sent, and
sometimes sold, to work as labourers in South American colonies. Due to the American War of
Independence,

Dr. Simons And Christopher F Chabris
Introduction
Research has proposed a visual phenomenon that implies that everyone has a visual blind spot a
small region in each eye that cannot see our surroundings. This phenomenon brings about the
theory of inattentional blindness; that we sometimes miss opportunities or events because we are
focusing on something else. The concept rose from Harvard psychologists Daniel J Simons and
Christopher F Chabris 1999 Gorillas in our midst study. Their aim was to study the psychology of
vision, doing so by creating four 75 seconds films involving two team of 3 players, one team
wearing white tops and the other wearing black, moving around passing 2 balls continuously. Two
conditions were used; after 44 48 s either a woman holding an umbrella would appear in the film
or a woman in a gorilla costume would appear. Participants were asked to watch and observe the
videos and monitor the balls being passed back and forth. At the end of the study they were then
questioned about the 2 conditions and what they saw. The study s findings supported the idea of
inattentional blindness for dynamic events.
To test this hypothesis, an experiment was carried out to investigate inattentional blindness in a
different setting using a similar method. A person dressed as a white mummy was used in lieu of a
gorilla. It was predicted that more participants would report seeing the mummy in the visually
similar condition (the white tops) rather than the visually different condition (the black

Second Corinthians
Paul begins chapter twelve of second Corinthians in a very interesting fashion; he begins to
relate an experience of a person that had a vision of heaven and indirectly implies it is himself.
Then he seems to think better of going into detail about this vision and transitions into why he
must be humble and how the Lord had given him a thorn in the flesh to keep him humble. Of
such a one will I glory yet of myself I will glory not, but in my infirmities of this verse Gill states he
[Paul] might lawfully glory of such a person so highly exalted and favoured, yet since this was
his own case, he chose to forbear, and say no more of it: Paul seems to be rejoicing at the privilege
that was given to him, yet he also seems to understand in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Godbey adamantly believed that Paul s aliment was physical not spiritual. He felt that Paul was
troubled by a physical problem because Paul called it his thorn in the flesh equating the term flesh
with the mortal body. Godbey also draws out an important clue from this passage; he shows that
Paul willingly identified that he had human weaknesses and limitations as the result of the Fall.
Godbey asserts I am satisfied that this thorn in the flesh was ocular feebleness which was the
most prominent infirmity in his life. He goes on to build a case as to why he believes this was
Paul s infirmity. He cites Galatians 4:15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear
you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have
given them to me which seems to imply that the Galatians would have relieved Paul of his eye
failure if they were able to. Godbey also mentions that Paul was an avid scholar and reader in his
early years which would have taken a tremendous toll on his eyes because of the poor light in
those days and the sheer volume of reading Paul devoured. Third Paul was blinded by a fierce
light on the Damascus road when he encountered Christ and although he was later healed by
Ananias Godbey advocates that Paul had suffered with poor eye sight until the day he

The Skimming Three simply requires flipping through the pages of the plan and looking at a few

5. Poorly Written Plan
5. Poorly Written Plan
This ranks up there with sloppy. When you submit a plan, it does not need to be textbook perfect
English. Investors understand that business plans are not written by English professors. The sort
of misspellings that should be caught in a spell check are unforgivable. It shows a tremendous
lack of effort if a business plan isn t even spell checked.
Is the plan clearly written? When an investor reads a plan, is it clear enough to make sense
quickly? Investors don t want to de code a business plan. They just want to read it. Poor grammar,
poor word choice, wrong words, and too many proofreading errors make a business plan too much
of a chore to get through. It gets the plan tossed into the reject pile quickly.

mid market with food and beverage, mid market without food and beverage, economy, and budget.

Finally, McDonald s could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by using the same
type of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line. Strategy Recommendations
General Recommendations
McDonald s should use their brand name to create a McDonald s experience in the hotel industry
just like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their food service experience with
their hotels and create new menus for them just like they do when they enter a new country.
Specific Recommendations
McDonald s should enter the mid market with food and beverage segment. In this segment they
can take advantage of what they already know in the food service industry while avoiding the
high cost and inexperience of luxury accommodations. These hotels should be directed at
children and families. They could incorporate the McDonald s Play Place and other fun activity
rooms like arcades or maybe something more adult like a game room with pool tables and
electronic darts. Using a more family oriented direction will also allow them to avoid the high cost
of liquor licenses and trying to compete with something that is already being done.
Rationale behind Recommendations
If McDonald s wants to take part in the hotel industry using the strength of their brand name it is
important that they differentiate themselves from all the other hotel chains. If

Self Assessment Tests I Didn t Know About Myself Essay
Based on the results of the several self assessment tests I completed, I confirmed things that I
knew about myself, and I was surprised to have learned other things I didn t know about myself.
This course has taught me a lot about many different aspects of life, especially about my life,
ranging from my personality to my skills and abilities. The Myers Briggs type indicator defined
my personality as ESTJ. ESTJ stands for extraverted, sensing, thinking, and judging. ESTJ
describes a person who is practical, decisive, logical and quick to dig in. I have also taken the
Gallup Strengths finder test, which identified my top five strengths as Learner, Achiever,
Restorative, Competitiveness and Focus. My weaknesses, on the other hand, were more
surprising. Some of the things I thought I had mastered and others that I was not sure about
turned out to be weak skills. These weak skills included, time management, handling facts and
inferences, intuitive ability and tolerance for ambiguity. My weaknesses, as well as my strengths,
will contribute to my success or failure; although, don t believe in failures, this is the reason why I
love Nelson Mandela s quote I never lose, I either win or learn. Besides the strengths found by both
the personality test and the strengths finder test, after completing the personal career readiness self

Essay about Goodyear Case
Goodyear Case
In 1992, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company decided to reconsider the offer from Sears to
sell Goodyear s Eagle brand tires. The reasons that Goodyear was contemplating this offer was
that Sears was replacing worn out Goodyear tires at a large amount every year. The tires were
not being replaced with Goodyear tires because the customers at Sears wanted to replace their
tires with the best possible tires that Sears offered, and the Goodyear tires were not in the
offering. The company s major options in this decision were whether to sell only the Eagle brand
tires or all of the Goodyear tire brands.

Goodyear?s principal business is the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of tires
throughout the world. The distribution of tires represented 83% of the company?s corporate sales
of $10.9 billion in 1991. Around 60% of Goodyear worldwide sales were in the tire replacement
market and 40% were to the original equipment market. Because of the Goodyear name, which is
one of the best known brand names in the world, the Goodyear tires have been positioned and
priced as premium quality brands. It is one of the leading national advertisers in the U.S. The
company also operates around 1,000 company owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and sells
through 2,500 franchised Goodyear Tires Dealers in the U.S. These outlets account for a good
portion of the company?s annual tire sales.
Recommendations
Because of an industry analysis that expects Sears to benefit from carrying Goodyear tires, I
think it would be a good idea for Goodyear to sell their tires at Sears? stores. The fact that
Goodyear is losing many customers to Sears by Sears not offering replacement tires to their
customers is becoming a large loss of business for Goodyear. The customers at Sears are returning
customers, and feel that the integrity of the company is well represented by the products they
offer. For Goodyear to sell their products at the Sears stores, it would show that the Goodyear name
stands for quality and that the product can be

David Ives Sure Thing Analysis
The play Sure Thing by David Ives is about two people who meet at a small cafГ©. They start
talking to each other and each time someone says something wrong, or the conversation goes
south, a bell rings and they start over. In the end, they end up liking each other a lot and have a
longer stretch of uninterrupted dialogue. This play is a challenging piece to work with as a
director since there isn t much to it. However, if one were to look at it from a filmproduction
perspective, more could be done. To enhance this piece, working with camera angles and
background music will be the best way to go. Since this piece is a lot of dialogue and very little
movement, several different camera angles will be needed to make it interesting.... Show more

Of course, music doesn t need to be under the whole thing. But they are in a cafГ© and cafГ©s
come with noise, whether that be the machines, radio, or the other customers. Plus it is nighttime
and people are coming in and out of the cafГ©, so there is bound to be sound from the traffic and
nightlife filtering in. Music and background noise adds a really powerful aspect to any piece and
sometimes the lack of music makes a scene even more dramatic. However, building up music for
intense scenes can pull the audience in. For example, when Betty and Bill are really going at it
and having to start over several times (Ives 1053), I am picturing the music picking up speed and
getting more intense with each ring of the bell until it s built up to halt as soon as Betty says,
Listen, I was headed to the movies... (Ives 1053). This would add a comedic value to the piece
that I believe the audience would enjoy. David Ives left future directors with a lot of wiggle room
when he wrote Sure Thing. There are many different directions a director could go in any aspect
when taking on a piece like this. But, with any film, the two most important thing to think about
are camera angles and background music. When those are done properly, everything else will fall
into place. It s a sure

Overall, Ryan scored 11 out of 14 (78.5%). The story, If You Give a Dog a Donut by Laura

Ryan s strength lies is his ability to begin his retelling with an introduction and setting. When

Frederick Engels View Of Historical Materialism
Throughout the excerpt entitled II. THEORETICAL from the book Anti DГјhring published 1877,
the author and philosopher Frederick Engels takes a historical materialistic approach; which is the
methodological approach to the study of human societies and their development with time, also
known as the materialistic conception of history. Engels also presents his argument against the
capitalist system that dominates at a globalized level. He shows that the capitalist mode of
production is fundamentally contradicting, which will eventually lead to its own demise. Engels
also indicates that many issues surface due to the fundamental contradictions of capitalism; one of
which, is between the organization of production in the individual factory and the anarchy of
production in society as a whole (Engels, p. 299) and another is The mode of production rebels
against the mode of exchange; the productive forces rebel against the mode of production, which
they have outgrown (Engels, p. 302). Due to the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist mode
of production, an unavoidable chain of social and economic conflict arises.
As mentioned above, historical materialism also known as the materialistic conception of history is
the methodological approach to the study of human societies and their development with time.
Engels states that historical materialism begins with the principle of production, and with
production the exchange of its product, is the basis of every social order;

Stress at Work
What is work related stress?
It is well recognised that stress at work is a massive problem. Any stress can reduce employee
well being and it is well recognised that excessive or sustained work pressure can lead to stress.
Occupational stress poses a risk to most businesses and compensation payments for stress are
increasing. It is important to meet the challenge by dealing with excessive and long term causes of
stress.

Harmonization of Accounting in Accounting Context
(a) Briefly explain what prompted some countries over the world to strongly advocate
harmonization of accounting.
The important reasons which necessitate harmonization of accounting practices are well contained
in the observation made by Saudagaran. While the initial efforts at harmonization were mainly
championed by political bodies and professional accounting organizations, current pressures to
harmonize are driven by investor groups who use financial statements, multinational companies
which prepare financial statements, regulators who monitor capital markets, the securities industry

Another term, distinguished from harmonization, is standardization. It describes a process by
which all participants agree to follow the same or very similar Accounting practices. The end
result is a state of uniformity (Roberts et al., 1998) This state of uniformity is a condition in
which everything is regular, homogenous or at least unvarying. (Samuels and Piper, 1985) Choi et
al. claim that standardization implies that all Accounting principles and practices are the same. He
describe standardization as imposition of a rigid and narrow set of rules, and may even apply a
single standard or rule to all situations (Choi et al.,2002:291).
The terms, harmonization and standardization, are often used in the same meaning. However,
Kleekämper et al. detect that there is a difference between these two terms (Kleekämper et al,
2002). Standardisation is a process in which all countries should adopt the method of one country.
In contrary, harmonization is understood as a reconciliation of different points of view. (Wilson in
Riahi Belkaoui, 2000)

Women s Athletic Teams For Women
Over 400 Division I men s athletic teams have been disbanded from existence since the inception
of Title IX. Title IX, implemented in 1972, is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits
discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. (Keating)
Title IX has achieved great success with women s sports since the inception and the number of
females in sports is six times greater since the inception of Title IX(diversity.siu.edu). Although it
has had great strides with women, it is disadvantaging men, especially in athletics. Title IX
requires that colleges give the same amount of scholarships to women as they do men. On paper,
this seems to be a great idea, but the consequences were never taken into consideration and caused
tremendous problems. In order to give the same amount of scholarships to men and women and be
compliant with Title IX, men s athletic teams have been cut in the process. Men losing the
opportunity to receive scholarships for their respective sport at a collegeof their choice and sports
teams getting cut is an issue that needs to be solved. Men s sports teams cannot keep on being
cut, for there are ways in which Title IX must be enhanced to benefit everyone. The problems of
men s athletic teams being cut can be solved by reducing outrageous spending, add women s
programs, and give more control to colleges. Before Title IX was created, fewer than 32,000
women took part in college athletics while over 170,000 men

Tolerance for ambiguity: Ambiguity is a psychological construct which describes the relationship
that not clear, it could be ambiguous things, behavior, or words.
(Budner, 1962, p.29) Tolerance for ambiguity is how to deal with a situation in a calm and genius
way. We see here that each individual has a difference and they are different in many ways, which
means the way they function varies. It does not mean they would not work efficiently. An idea will

it.

Company. On the contrary, the longest cycle is contained by Rite Aid. Therefore, there is a
leaner operation in Walgreen compared to both CVS and Rite companies. When compared to the
two companies, Walgreen is less liquid. Due to the reduced period of cash to cash cycle, there is
more operating investment in disposal to be used in Walgreen when compared to CVS and Rite.
By considering cash to cash cycle, the best performing company is Walgreen, followed by CVS

The highest return on assets from the tables above is 23.8%, which belongs to Rite Aid. CVS
follows with 6.25%, and lastly, Walgreen has 5.20%. Therefore, the most rewarding assets belong to
Rite since they achieve a higher return on investment compared to the other two companies. Out of
the three companies, Walgreen has assets with the lowest returns on investment. Basing return on

Operant Conditioning And Its Effect On Behavior
Operant conditioning refers to the method of learning to occur through rewards and punishment for
behavior (Staddon Cerutti 2002). In the operant condition, an association occurs between the
behavior and the consequences of the behavior. Behaviorist B.F Skinner coined operant
conditioning, and that is why some refer to it as Skinnerian conditioning. Skinner started studying
operant conditioningin the late 1920s when he was a graduate student at Harvard University. As a
behaviorist B.F Skinner believes that it was obligatory to look at the internal thoughts and
motivation so as to explain behavior (Staddon Cerutti 2002). As an alternative, he did suggest that
we should look only at the external and observable causes of human behavior. The characteristics of
operant conditioning are that an organism may emit a particular response instead of just eliciting
the response because of the external stimulus. Skinner did use the term operant in referring to any
active behavior that operates on the environment so as to generate consequences (Doyle Portillo
Pastorino 2013).
Skinner s theory explains how we acquire different learned behavior we exhibit daily. The work
of psychologists Edward Thorndike greatly influences Skinner s theory. Thorndike proposed what
he called the law of effect. According to the principle, actions followed by desirable outcomes are
likely to be repeated while those followed by undesirable outcomes are not likely to be repeated.

Theme Of Voices In The City By Anita Desai
Abstract:
Unlike other women novelists, Anita Desai concentrates on the exploration of sensibility, that too
feminine sensibility by probing deep into the inner life of a woman. Desai reigns supreme in her
fictional world by focusing attention towards the quest inward and concentrating on the still
grimmer and more harrowing presentation of Indian life. In fact all her characters are sensitive,
solitary and hyper introspective. Her fiction balances itself delicately on the fringes between things
and awareness of things, between chaos and order of mind. Her primary interest lies in exploring
the disturbed depths of the female psyche. . The most prominent feature of her fiction is her mode
of individualizing the character. She is preoccupied primarily with the portrayal of women

The Importance Of English As A Communication For Business...
Introduction
Last Night I was reading the newspaper while drinking some tea and eating a biscuit. The paper
really gave me insight into the tragic realities of the world. There are a plethora of countries that
don t have the opportunity to read Garfield because they cannot understand English. Due to this,
English should be the global lingua franca. It is assumed that wherever anyone goes in the world,
someone will speak some sort of English. It may be extremely choppy and broken but it is
English nonetheless. English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Many
people speak it as a primary or secondary language. In fact, an estimated 1 billion people speak
English (PBS). There are two sides to having English as the lingua franca of the world. On one side,
there is easier communication for business as well as innovation. On the contrary, the influence of
English can destroy small languages and cultures.
Background History
The English language can be divided into three main periods which consists of Old, Middle and
Modern English. Old English was mainly composed of the Germanic languages of the Angles,
Jutes, and Saxons all mixed together. In fact, Old English resembles modern German more than
Modern English. The Germanic people added words from Latin into the English language. People
also put words into more regular order. During the Middle age of English, French was prevalent
because England was conquered by Normandy. In this time period,

Leadership And Servant Leadership In The Galileo Seven
In the episode The Galileo Seven , Mr. Spock is in command of a space shuttle craft, which crash
lands on a hostile alien planet. His leadership style and behaviour cause conflict and resentment
amongst the crew of the shuttle craft, as he battles to extract them from the alien planet. Ultimately,
he could save the remaining crew and himself and get back to the USS Enterprise.
The leadership style of Spock can be analysed using several leadership theories that was introduced
during the lecture series such as Trait Approach, Skills Approach, Behavioural Approach,
Transactional Transformational Leadership, Situational/Contingency Approach, Path Goal Theory,
Authentic Leadership and Servant Leadership.
Looking at the Trait Approach it assumes that Leaders are exceptional people, born with innate
qualities, destined to lead. Considering the background of Mr. Spock he was not considered as a
first choice for leadership because captain Kirk was presumed to be better suited for leadership
according to this leadership theory. However, as a lot of other theories suggest a leader cannot be
only assessed by innate qualities. In the mid 20th century, the trait approach was challenged by
research that questioned the universality of leadership traits. Stogdill (1948) suggested that no
consistent set of traits differentiated leaders from non leaders across a variety of situations.
(Nothhouse, 2016) (Stogdill, 1948)
Considering the Skills approach it suggests that leadership is not only about innate characteristics.
Several skills and abilities which can be learned and developed helps a person to become a better
leader.
Based on field research Katz (1955) suggested that effective administration (i.e., leadership)
depends on three basic personal skills: technical, human, and conceptual. Technical skill is
knowledge about and proficiency in a specific type of work or activity. Human skill is knowledge
about and ability to work with people. Conceptual skills are the ability to work with ideas and
concepts. (Northhouse, 2016) (Katz, 1955)
Considering the case of Mr. Spock; in my opinion Mr. Spock was very well equipped with both
Technical skills and Conceptual Skills which helped him to be a successful leader. However, he

Milgram s Research On Obedience Essay
Why did Milgram decide to study this topic? What was the motivating factor/event that inspired
Milgram to research obedience?
The main reason that Milgram decided to study the topic of obedience was to better understand
the extreme inhumane conditions that Jews faced during the holocaust at the hands of German
soldiers. Over the 12 year period between the early 1930 s through the mid 1940 s millions of Jews
died in death camps run by Germans. Since Milgram himself was of Jewish descent, Milgram
wanted to know how and why soldiers obeyed orders to kill innocent people.
What was hypothesized? You may not find an explicit hypothesis in the article, but do your best to
write a summary of what Milgram thought he might find when conducting the experiment.
In this experiment Milgram hypothesized, how far participants were willing to carry out commands
from a peer who had greater power and authority over them; even if these commands went totally
against their values.
How many participants (called subjects in the article) were observed, how were they selected, and
how would you describe them?
In the Milgram obedience study 40 males participated in the experience, all of participants were
selected based on a newspaper article ad that Milgram placed. It stated that if they participate in
an experiment at Yale University they would be paid a sum of $4.50, which at the time was a
large amount of money. Of the 40 men that were selected their ages ranged from 20 years old

My Breaking In From Black Beauty
Literature Critique
Throughout the world and history horses have been used for various things and been treated
various ways. To some, horses are just another tool like a shovel or tractor used for work to
complete necessary tasks. For others horses are family used for hobby or sport and loved dearly. It
is amazing how the view of horses has changed over the years and still today people have
different opinions on how horses should be treated, and what they should be used for. The two
chapters I read from Price s book greatly differed and showed very different opinions of horses.
The first chapter, My Breaking In from Black Beauty, is a short description of how horses are broke
from the eyes of a horse. The author uses the perspective of a horse to describe how if horses are
treated well they will work hard for you in return. In the chapter Black Beauty is talking to his

the horses as much more than tools while the Hunting Sketches chapter depicts horses as just
another part of the fox hunting sport. In the Black Beauty chapter the horse wants to work for his

individual sees god through that Murti. The ceremony is a personal devotion declaration of love
and loyalty to a deity and establishes direct communication through mind and body.
According to Eck (p.2), the meaning of darshan is religious seeing in which the core mandate of
the individual is to experience the presence of the deity and be seen by the god. While there are
prayers and offerings offered the critical aspect of the ceremony is the worship the image and
through the eyes gain and experienced blessings from the deity (Eck, p.2). Love and loyalty
aspects are coined in a much serious manner, and all the expectations from the deity are not in any
way a part of the ritual. The ceremony of puja is done in homes or a temple in which the icon is
bathed, dressed coupled with offerings, incense, and drums (Flood, p.209). The act of quality of the
Puja is dependent on the intensity, the loyalty of the devotion and purity of the individual

Understanding The Limitations Of A Person With Mcardle s...
In 2005, my husband was forced to retire from a job at Georgia Pacific. This was a job that he
had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason
that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of
us not knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many
doctors on many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a
new doctor, a neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband,
you have McArdle s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped
and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with
McArdle s disease is the best way to live with it.
What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000
persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle s
disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is
the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar).
People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very
healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective
gene. This is called autosomal recessive inheritance pattern ( McArdle s Disease Overview Facts
June 2014). You are born with the disease but some

Analysis of Prospero from The Tempest by Shakespeare Essay
Prospero, the male lead of the Tempest, starts out as the victim of the play, but as the story goes
on, it becomes apparent that he is actually the cause of all the problems and plots within the play.
Prospero is important because he is the puppeteer that leads all of the characters to complete his
orders. He strings all of the characters along to do his bidding, and by the end of the play, he is the
only one who wins. Prospero is interesting because, without him, there would be no plot. He is the
one who stirs up the Tempestand brings his usurpers to the island. Despite the original belief that
Prospero is the victim of his brother s commandeering of his throne, it becomes obvious that
Prospero does not have good intentions, and is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospero also punishes Trinculo and Stephano for no reason. Trinculo and Stephano have no reason
to be on the island besides aiding and abetting Caliban in his plot to overthrow Prospero. Because
Prospero originally made the different groups of people who stayed on the island, he must have
wanted Trinculo and Stephano to meet Caliban, and in turn punish them for a crime that he made
them commit, implying that Prospero wanted to use his magic to further harm more people.
Prospero enslaves Caliban and Ariel, seizing the island for him and Miranda, just like Alonso
and Antonio had done to him. The rightful ruler of the island is Caliban, and although Caliban at
one time tried to rape Miranda, Prospero repeatedly punishes him for this one event that occurred
much before this play takes place. Prospero initially helps Caliban by educating him and in
exchange, Caliban taught Prospero and Miranda how to survive on the island. Prospero uses the
act of attempted rape to justify his seizure of the island. This take over should have been enough
punishment but Prospero enslaves Caliban, threatening to hurt him if he does not do his bidding.
By endlessly punishing Caliban, Prospero inadvertently shows his malicious side. Although
Prospero freed Ariel from the tree he was bound inside, Prospero blackmails Ariel and essentially
enslaves him too. Prospero repeatedly tells Ariel that he will set him free but, it seems as if that is

Desegregation Of The United States
The education system in the United States has gone through many changes spanning all the way
from the 1800 s to today. The integration of other races and cultures into our schools have played
in integral part in the historical development of the U.S. educational system. It has also allowed
more access to all students to experience education. The desegregation of schools also started the
conversation about allowing Blacks to have equal access to the same water fountains, public
transportation, restrooms, and public spaces, as Whites. It is important to note the differences
between desegregation and integration. The distinction between these two terms are crucial
because in the constitution law the Supreme Court has never enforced integration, but does
prohibit segregation. Desegregation is defined as provisions articulated in law or practice that
eliminate the isolation of members of a particular group into separate functional units (ASHE
Higher Education Report p.12). Integration is the incorporation of individuals and groups as
equals into society. Desegregation had to take place before integration could even begin to
become a proposal. During the mid to late 1800 s there were several laws and court cases taking
place which slowly led up to the gradual start of the desegregation movement. Black education in
the South was virtually nonexistent before the Civil War and very limited in Northern states. Once
the civil war ended, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed and

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disorder, characterized by right heart
catheterization, as a mean arterial pressure 25mmHg at rest in the pulmonary arteries. If left
untreated, this can lead to right ventricular failure and ultimately death. PAH can be either
idiopathic or concomitant with several other conditions. Following considerable deliberation, the
World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified PAH into five major diagnostic categories (Table
1)(1). Currently there are several pharmacological treatment options for PAH which include
endothelial receptor antagonists (ERA), calcium channels blockers, prostanoids and
phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5). Nevertheless, novel therapies are still in development.

Transcription of ET 1 can be upregulated by various stimuli some of which include hypoxia, shear
stress and pH.
ET 1 receptors
ET 1 activates two subtypes of endothelin receptors (ETA and ETB receptors) which are guanine
nucleotide binding proteins(4). The two receptors have different locations within the vasculature
and mediate different downstream pathways. As a result, ET 1 can have diverse effects on the
vasculature.
The vasoconstrictive effects of ET 1 are a result of predominately ETA and, to a lesser extent, ETB
receptors which are expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Activation of these
receptors leads to IP3 mediated increases in intracellular calcium from sarcoplasmic reticulum
stores(4). This rise in intracellular calcium, results in increased smooth muscle contraction and
subsequent vasoconstriction. Mitogenic effects of ET 1 can also be seen by activation of both
receptors which results in VSMC proliferation and thus contributes to

Rome in The Age of Augustus
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, which was used in the Eastern provinces.
Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the
first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at
the Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being
honoured, and that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the
first factor that initiated the rise of Octavian.
28 BC ~ During the struggle between Octavian and Antony, both men had purged the Senate of
those who they viewed as posing a threat to them and who might initiate a revolt. These men were
often replaced with loyal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to
them was to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted
their offers, which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main
elements to Octavian s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul
was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and
Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These
areas of the empire were in need of the most defence; therefore, the majority of the Roman army
was stationed there. Octavian s control over these regions now extended to the control of a large
section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected annually and had authority over Rome and Italy.
There were several provinces belonging to the Roman people, and Octavian used his position as
Consul to claim power over the proconsuls of such provinces. He also now had considerable
influence over the Senate and the assembly of Roman citizens. (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)
Virgil indicates that Octavian already had the support of the Senate and the people well before this

Carol Ann Duffy Rubbish At Adultery
The three poems I am studying are Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy, Rubbish at adultery by Sophie
Hannah and Absence by Elizabeth Jennings. The three poems are each portraying different level
of love relationships, to express their feelings, whether it is trueness, yearning or bitter. The first
poem I am going to study is Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy. In Valentine Duffy introduces the
reader to her own symbol of love, the onion, which is unusual because the onion is a very
tremble, malodorous, bitter and unromantic entity. Duffy throughout the poem uses the onion as
a metaphor for love and develops it in different ways to demonstrate parallels between the onion
and love. In Valentine there is contradiction if Duffy is expressing feelings from a female
perspective because usually a woman will receive a red rose , satin heart and a cute card or
kissogram , therefore the persona probably conveys feelings from a male perspective. Which is a
twist by Duffy, a persona who often had a feminist perspective. In addition Duffy once more has
written a poem subject to controversy because there is negative attitude, a debate in the poem that
normal valentines are not as honest this is evident on line eleven as a single line I am trying to be
truthful . For example first and twelfth line is structured as single lines for attention and both
embark on negative adverb not which indicates a rejection of traditional love. Both lines continues

Should Henry Come Out Of The Closet Essay
Question: Should Henry (the 15 year old boy) come out of the closet and not keep his sexuality
a secret from his family and friends? Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical
Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something
beyond our control and it wasn t Henry s choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to
decide if he wants to come out . If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons
for doing so. He is probably tired of hiding himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human
as well. It is wrong for society to place Henry as a subject for discrimination just because they
perceive homosexuality as unacceptable. Instead, he deserves equal rights... Show more content on

People are judgmental and will discriminate when they can t accept differences. When trouble
comes, it is your family that supports you Guy Lafleur. In worse case scenarios where his own
family is unable to accept his sexuality, what more can we expect from the cruel society? It may
result in Henry living in self destruction and psychological distress. Addressing the negative
impact: Since family acceptance would mean the greatest, my suggestion is to put Henry s
family through counselling. Although it may be a long process, it will help change their
perceptions and slowly accept Henry for who he is. There is a need for society to learn to accept
homosexuals. One solution is to increase the number of counselling and support centres. By doing
so, it encourages more homosexuals to accept themselves, thus making it more socially acceptable.

doing anything. While they were walking by the Caldron Pool, they saw a lion s skin in the water.

Analyzing Erikson s Psychosocial Crisis
Essay Question #13 Erikson s fourth psychosocial crisis is defined as industry versus inferiority
. During this stage children attempt to perform more complex tasks, and they strive to master
these skills. As a result, they develop a sense of either industrious or inferior, competent or
incompetent. In order for a child to resolve the crisis, they are faced with mastering the
developmental task. It is extremely crucial for the child to receive great support from both
parents, and teachers during this crisis stage. Contrary to this, can cause a negative effect on a

  • 2. Cannabinoids Vs Synthetic Drugs The Merriam Webster dictionary defines synthetic as made by combining different substances: not natural. It also defines a drug as a substance recognized in an official pharmacopoeia or formulary. (Merriam Webster dictionary 2016). Synthetic drugs have been compounded chemically to be equivalent to marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine which can be purchased over the counter at local convenience stores, gas stations and smoke shops. The synthetic drugs are divided into two different categories according to their chemical makeup. The first category is known as Cannabinoids, which is also known as K2 or Spice. The cannabinoids groups are lab manufactured THC synthetic marijuana that gives users a similar high as marijuana. The other category is known as Cathinones, commonly... The brain s communication system is disrupted a long with the nerve cells and how it receives and sends information through the body. The disruption in the brain can take place by either imitating the brain s massagers or over stimulating the reward circuit in the brain, which can result in problems. The brain already has some structures called neurotransmitters which are naturally produced by the brain that are similar to the drugs consumed. The similarity can result in the brain s receptors being fooled and having the nerve cells activated sending abnormal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On American Antisemitism Racism is over. This is the defense of many white citizens of both Europe and America when they re called racist, or something is called thus. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many reasons, from the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the standards of beauty fair skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem, however, and an issue that is often overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European countries, and even in America. From vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed. Most white Americans and Europeans of today like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of the world, this isn t the case. There are still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on where you re looking. Greek was recently revealed to be the most anti semitic country in Europe, with 69 percent of Greeks espousing anti Semitic views, according to the survey, Greece was on par with Saudi Arabia, more anti Semitic than Iran... Microeconomics And The Laws Of Supply And Demand Essay Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand Microeconomics and the Law of Demand as reviewed in the Khan Academy videos are a simple enlightening of the business cycle. The descriptive teaching and evolving facts of real life cause and effects in the cycle of business production and supply are an exquisite piece of material. The concepts relation to microeconomics are demand, markets cost and price, they are listed in true relation to the area s they occupy in analysis of the mathematical formula of how they are defined in economic literature and explanation. Through each cycle of change they apply to business production. The concepts role is used to identify economical factors that allow adjustment in areas that may affect revenues in put and out put or Short run or Long run, margins cost and market distribution tied to overall success. In the form of efficiency and growth, if a solid understanding is applied using a structured fiscal plan with total cost, resources cost, production cost, market and demand will provide an upper hand in preventing fiscal self destruction. The mathematical approach and visual graphing, price vs. quantity of production will provide a stopping point for the companies buyer, providing reason for limitations as the identifier to prevent probable revenue/cost inflation or loss. • 5. James Fennimore s Last Of The Mohicans The book last of Mohicans is a really good novel that gives a lot of action, romanticism and suspense, really gets the reader going. James Fennimore cooper really gave a historical background writing the novel last of the Mohicans. The novel represents the Mohicans (Mahican) and the parts of the history. James Fennimore cooper really had an accurate noveland an outstanding point of view. The Mohican tribe was really interesting and they originally came from the banks of the Hudson River, where it is now New York State. They also lived in many other places but unfortunately the Europeans came and killed many Mohicans. The surviving Mohicans had to move to the west. Later on the Mohicans moved to Stockbridge where they live today. The Mohican children lived like any other child they did there chores went to school and played games but there was a bit difference in today s children then in the Mohicans back then. The Mohicans children used to do more chores then they would play but what was really interesting is how they played the games, they were given miniature arrows where they would hunt for small animals and would often play ball games similar to soccer but a bit different, instead of using your feet you would use a... • 6. The Issue Of Corporate Greed In exploring the issue of corporate greed, especially on Wall Street, we can decide if an issue is overblown by asking one question, Can a life ruining, economy changing financial crisis be skewed for dramatic effect? The Big Short tells the story of the financial crisis of 2008 and tackles the issue of corporate greed in the form of the true stories of a few men who saw the crisis coming. The issue is not overblown at all. This can be observed by simply looking to the devastation and chaos caused by banks trying to make money by preying on the poor and un informed in the years following 2008. Most of us are old enough to remember the mind numbingly large number of people that were affected in several ways when the housing market crashed. Unfortunately, many are also old enough to have been directly affected by the choices big banks made for decades. Because there was such a large event directly caused by the issue of corporate greed, there are plenty examples in daily life to suggest that The Big Short does not skew the issue for dramatic effect. Almost all economists have weighed in on the economic failure in journals discussing topics such as corporate greed and the aftermath of the collapse. In terms of severity, the financial collapse of 2008 is second only to the Great Depression in American history. This fact alone is enough to prove that The Big Short did not skew the issue for dramatic effect. But looking deeper into the situation, we can see that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Hills Like White Elephant Rhetorical Analysis Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephant is about a conversation between American man and his girlfriend at a train station during their transit to Madrid. While the author does not specify the type of surgery the girl is headed to, but with the great use of euphuism, Hemingway hints towards the operation being an abortion. Although the idea of the story is about couple s conversation, the reader can perceive that neither truly communicates and can sense the rift between them. During the beginning of the story, the conversation between the couple strikes normal: it seems like two young individuals in love getting away for a romantic gateway. All of these different forms of protests are shining a light on the increasing amount of sexual assault happening in different countries around the world. In the recent decade, the Middle East has come in and out of the news for the lack of progressive laws concerning women s rights. They have also gotten attention for all the revolts that seem to be taking place there. These revolutions may seem old and out of date but one is going on right now. With only spray paint and hopes for a better future, Egyptian women have broken their silence concerning equal rights and sexual harassment. • 12. Collonization Of Australia And Indigenous Australian People Identify the primary factors which led to the colonisation of Australia and Indigenous Australian peoples and explain the theories of race which supported this process. This essay identifies the primary factors which led to the colonisation of Australia and Indigenous Australian peoples while explaining how race theories were used to justify colonising Australia. Many factors led to the colonisation of Australia including British Imperialism, but the penal colony was very important so the British pushed on, whether they had the right to or not. Race was a theory and using sources, this essay explores different opinions and perspectives of the race theories. The Indigenous Australian people were on the lower end of the Great Chain of Being and therefore, were treated as inferior to the Europeans. British colonialism emerged from rapid political, social and economic change and this affected the development of technology and a strong sense of national pride and identity which led the way for the British Empire to be a global power. Due to the Industrial Revolution, the majority of the population lived in the city which created poor living conditions and overcrowding. With low economic rates, many people were pushed into theft to feed their families and in turn, the crime rates rose significantly. Many convicts were sentenced to transportation and were sent, and sometimes sold, to work as labourers in South American colonies. Due to the American War of Independence, ... • 13. Dr. Simons And Christopher F Chabris Introduction Research has proposed a visual phenomenon that implies that everyone has a visual blind spot a small region in each eye that cannot see our surroundings. This phenomenon brings about the theory of inattentional blindness; that we sometimes miss opportunities or events because we are focusing on something else. The concept rose from Harvard psychologists Daniel J Simons and Christopher F Chabris 1999 Gorillas in our midst study. Their aim was to study the psychology of vision, doing so by creating four 75 seconds films involving two team of 3 players, one team wearing white tops and the other wearing black, moving around passing 2 balls continuously. Two conditions were used; after 44 48 s either a woman holding an umbrella would appear in the film or a woman in a gorilla costume would appear. Participants were asked to watch and observe the videos and monitor the balls being passed back and forth. At the end of the study they were then questioned about the 2 conditions and what they saw. The study s findings supported the idea of inattentional blindness for dynamic events. To test this hypothesis, an experiment was carried out to investigate inattentional blindness in a different setting using a similar method. A person dressed as a white mummy was used in lieu of a gorilla. It was predicted that more participants would report seeing the mummy in the visually similar condition (the white tops) rather than the visually different condition (the black ... Second Corinthians Paul begins chapter twelve of second Corinthians in a very interesting fashion; he begins to relate an experience of a person that had a vision of heaven and indirectly implies it is himself. Then he seems to think better of going into detail about this vision and transitions into why he must be humble and how the Lord had given him a thorn in the flesh to keep him humble. Of such a one will I glory yet of myself I will glory not, but in my infirmities of this verse Gill states he [Paul] might lawfully glory of such a person so highly exalted and favoured, yet since this was his own case, he chose to forbear, and say no more of it: Paul seems to be rejoicing at the privilege that was given to him, yet he also seems to understand in... He felt that Paul was troubled by a physical problem because Paul called it his thorn in the flesh equating the term flesh with the mortal body. Godbey also draws out an important clue from this passage; he shows that Paul willingly identified that he had human weaknesses and limitations as the result of the Fall. Godbey asserts I am satisfied that this thorn in the flesh was ocular feebleness which was the most prominent infirmity in his life. He goes on to build a case as to why he believes this was Paul s infirmity. He cites Galatians 4:15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me which seems to imply that the Galatians would have relieved Paul of his eye failure if they were able to. Godbey also mentions that Paul was an avid scholar and reader in his early years which would have taken a tremendous toll on his eyes because of the poor light in those days and the sheer volume of reading Paul devoured. Third Paul was blinded by a fierce light on the Damascus road when he encountered Christ and although he was later healed by Ananias Godbey advocates that Paul had suffered with poor eye sight until the day he ... They start talking to each other and each time someone says something wrong, or the conversation goes south, a bell rings and they start over. In the end, they end up liking each other a lot and have a longer stretch of uninterrupted dialogue. This play is a challenging piece to work with as a director since there isn t much to it. However, if one were to look at it from a filmproduction perspective, more could be done. To enhance this piece, working with camera angles and background music will be the best way to go. Of course, music doesn t need to be under the whole thing. But they are in a cafГ© and cafГ©s come with noise, whether that be the machines, radio, or the other customers. Plus it is nighttime and people are coming in and out of the cafГ©, so there is bound to be sound from the traffic and nightlife filtering in. Music and background noise adds a really powerful aspect to any piece and sometimes the lack of music makes a scene even more dramatic. However, building up music for intense scenes can pull the audience in. For example, when Betty and Bill are really going at it and having to start over several times (Ives 1053), I am picturing the music picking up speed and getting more intense with each ring of the bell until it s built up to halt as soon as Betty says, Listen, I was headed to the movies... (Ives 1053). This would add a comedic value to the piece that I believe the audience would enjoy. David Ives left future directors with a lot of wiggle room when he wrote Sure Thing. There are many different directions a director could go in any aspect when taking on a piece like this. But, with any film, the two most important thing to think about are camera angles and background music. When those are done properly, everything else will fall into place. It s a sure ... THEORETICAL from the book Anti DГјhring published 1877, the author and philosopher Frederick Engels takes a historical materialistic approach; which is the methodological approach to the study of human societies and their development with time, also known as the materialistic conception of history. Engels also presents his argument against the capitalist system that dominates at a globalized level. He shows that the capitalist mode of production is fundamentally contradicting, which will eventually lead to its own demise. Engels also indicates that many issues surface due to the fundamental contradictions of capitalism; one of which, is between the organization of production in the individual factory and the anarchy of production in society as a whole (Engels, p. 299) and another is The mode of production rebels against the mode of exchange; the productive forces rebel against the mode of production, which they have outgrown (Engels, p. 302). Due to the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist mode of production, an unavoidable chain of social and economic conflict arises. As mentioned above, historical materialism also known as the materialistic conception of history is the methodological approach to the study of human societies and their development with time. • 36. Operant Conditioning And Its Effect On Behavior Operant conditioning refers to the method of learning to occur through rewards and punishment for behavior (Staddon Cerutti 2002). In the operant condition, an association occurs between the behavior and the consequences of the behavior. Behaviorist B.F Skinner coined operant conditioning, and that is why some refer to it as Skinnerian conditioning. Skinner started studying operant conditioningin the late 1920s when he was a graduate student at Harvard University. As a behaviorist B.F Skinner believes that it was obligatory to look at the internal thoughts and motivation so as to explain behavior (Staddon Cerutti 2002). As an alternative, he did suggest that we should look only at the external and observable causes of human behavior. The characteristics of operant conditioning are that an organism may emit a particular response instead of just eliciting the response because of the external stimulus. Skinner did use the term operant in referring to any active behavior that operates on the environment so as to generate consequences (Doyle Portillo Pastorino 2013). Skinner s theory explains how we acquire different learned behavior we exhibit daily. The work of psychologists Edward Thorndike greatly influences Skinner s theory. Thorndike proposed what he called the law of effect. The fighting went back and forth until 1917 when a revolution broke out in Russia which resulted in Russia asking for a truce. (World Book Encyclopedia) The United States remained neutral at first, but many Americans turned against the Central Powers after Germany began sinking unarmed ships. In 1917 the United States joined the Allies. As a result the Allies gained the manpower they needed to win the war. In 1918, the Central Powers surrendered. (World Book Encyclopedia) World War I grew into the greatest war the world had ever seen. The amount of money spent was enormous. The war costed about two hundred billion dollars. The United States alone spent as much money as it did on all the expenses of the government from 1791 to 1914. • 39. The Importance Of English As A Communication For Business... Introduction Last Night I was reading the newspaper while drinking some tea and eating a biscuit. The paper really gave me insight into the tragic realities of the world. There are a plethora of countries that don t have the opportunity to read Garfield because they cannot understand English. Due to this, English should be the global lingua franca. It is assumed that wherever anyone goes in the world, someone will speak some sort of English. It may be extremely choppy and broken but it is English nonetheless. English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Many people speak it as a primary or secondary language. In fact, an estimated 1 billion people speak English (PBS). There are two sides to having English as the lingua franca of the world. On one side, there is easier communication for business as well as innovation. On the contrary, the influence of English can destroy small languages and cultures. Background History The English language can be divided into three main periods which consists of Old, Middle and Modern English. Old English was mainly composed of the Germanic languages of the Angles, Jutes, and Saxons all mixed together. In fact, Old English resembles modern German more than Modern English. The Germanic people added words from Latin into the English language. People also put words into more regular order. During the Middle age of English, French was prevalent because England was conquered by Normandy. In this time period, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Leadership And Servant Leadership In The Galileo Seven In the episode The Galileo Seven , Mr. Spock is in command of a space shuttle craft, which crash lands on a hostile alien planet. His leadership style and behaviour cause conflict and resentment amongst the crew of the shuttle craft, as he battles to extract them from the alien planet. Ultimately, he could save the remaining crew and himself and get back to the USS Enterprise. The leadership style of Spock can be analysed using several leadership theories that was introduced during the lecture series such as Trait Approach, Skills Approach, Behavioural Approach, Transactional Transformational Leadership, Situational/Contingency Approach, Path Goal Theory, Authentic Leadership and Servant Leadership. Looking at the Trait Approach it assumes that Leaders are exceptional people, born with innate qualities, destined to lead. Considering the background of Mr. Spock he was not considered as a first choice for leadership because captain Kirk was presumed to be better suited for leadership according to this leadership theory. However, as a lot of other theories suggest a leader cannot be only assessed by innate qualities. In the mid 20th century, the trait approach was challenged by research that questioned the universality of leadership traits. Stogdill (1948) suggested that no consistent set of traits differentiated leaders from non leaders across a variety of situations. (Nothhouse, 2016) (Stogdill, 1948) Considering the Skills approach it suggests that leadership is not only about innate characteristics. Several skills and abilities which can be learned and developed helps a person to become a better leader. Based on field research Katz (1955) suggested that effective administration (i.e., leadership) depends on three basic personal skills: technical, human, and conceptual. Technical skill is knowledge about and proficiency in a specific type of work or activity. Human skill is knowledge about and ability to work with people. Conceptual skills are the ability to work with ideas and concepts. (Northhouse, 2016) (Katz, 1955) Considering the case of Mr. Spock; in my opinion Mr. Spock was very well equipped with both Technical skills and Conceptual Skills which helped him to be a successful leader. • 41. Milgram s Research On Obedience Essay Why did Milgram decide to study this topic? What was the motivating factor/event that inspired Milgram to research obedience? The main reason that Milgram decided to study the topic of obedience was to better understand the extreme inhumane conditions that Jews faced during the holocaust at the hands of German soldiers. Over the 12 year period between the early 1930 s through the mid 1940 s millions of Jews died in death camps run by Germans. Since Milgram himself was of Jewish descent, Milgram wanted to know how and why soldiers obeyed orders to kill innocent people. What was hypothesized? You may not find an explicit hypothesis in the article, but do your best to write a summary of what Milgram thought he might find when conducting the experiment. In this experiment Milgram hypothesized, how far participants were willing to carry out commands from a peer who had greater power and authority over them; even if these commands went totally against their values. How many participants (called subjects in the article) were observed, how were they selected, and how would you describe them? In the Milgram obedience study 40 males participated in the experience, all of participants were selected based on a newspaper article ad that Milgram placed. It stated that if they participate in an experiment at Yale University they would be paid a sum of $4.50, which at the time was a large amount of money. • 43. My Breaking In From Black Beauty Literature Critique Throughout the world and history horses have been used for various things and been treated various ways. To some, horses are just another tool like a shovel or tractor used for work to complete necessary tasks. For others horses are family used for hobby or sport and loved dearly. It is amazing how the view of horses has changed over the years and still today people have different opinions on how horses should be treated, and what they should be used for. The two chapters I read from Price s book greatly differed and showed very different opinions of horses. The first chapter, My Breaking In from Black Beauty, is a short description of how horses are broke from the eyes of a horse. The author uses the perspective of a horse to describe how if horses are treated well they will work hard for you in return. In the Black Beauty chapter the horse wants to work for his master and the master wants the best for his horse. The whole chapter is based around the horse and written from the horses prospective. • 44. The Importance Of Darshan In Puja The importance of Darshan in Puja Puja is a Hindu ceremony that centers on the offerings to a deity, this offering aims to earn the deity s love and gather blessings. This ritual is symbolic, and an individual who performs Puja is offering the body, soul and all that there possess to the deity to receive what the goddess may have to offer. During puja, an individual seeks a connection with the goddess through the experience of Darshan. In the context of darshan, a Murti is an absorption tool in which the deity is seen, and an individual sees god through that Murti. The ceremony is a personal devotion declaration of love and loyalty to a deity and establishes direct communication through mind and body. According to Eck (p.2), the meaning of darshan is religious seeing in which the core mandate of the individual is to experience the presence of the deity and be seen by the god. While there are prayers and offerings offered the critical aspect of the ceremony is the worship the image and through the eyes gain and experienced blessings from the deity (Eck, p.2). Love and loyalty aspects are coined in a much serious manner, and all the expectations from the deity are not in any way a part of the ritual. The ceremony of puja is done in homes or a temple in which the icon is bathed, dressed coupled with offerings, incense, and drums (Flood, p.209). This was a job that he had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of us not knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many doctors on many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a new doctor, a neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband, you have McArdle s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with McArdle s disease is the best way to live with it. What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000 persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle s disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar). People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective gene. Because Prospero originally made the different groups of people who stayed on the island, he must have wanted Trinculo and Stephano to meet Caliban, and in turn punish them for a crime that he made them commit, implying that Prospero wanted to use his magic to further harm more people. Prospero enslaves Caliban and Ariel, seizing the island for him and Miranda, just like Alonso and Antonio had done to him. The rightful ruler of the island is Caliban, and although Caliban at one time tried to rape Miranda, Prospero repeatedly punishes him for this one event that occurred much before this play takes place. • 48. Desegregation Of The United States The education system in the United States has gone through many changes spanning all the way from the 1800 s to today. The integration of other races and cultures into our schools have played in integral part in the historical development of the U.S. educational system. It has also allowed more access to all students to experience education. The desegregation of schools also started the conversation about allowing Blacks to have equal access to the same water fountains, public transportation, restrooms, and public spaces, as Whites. It is important to note the differences between desegregation and integration. The distinction between these two terms are crucial because in the constitution law the Supreme Court has never enforced integration, but does prohibit segregation. Desegregation is defined as provisions articulated in law or practice that eliminate the isolation of members of a particular group into separate functional units (ASHE Higher Education Report p.12). Integration is the incorporation of individuals and groups as equals into society. Desegregation had to take place before integration could even begin to become a proposal. During the mid to late 1800 s there were several laws and court cases taking place which slowly led up to the gradual start of the desegregation movement. Black education in the South was virtually nonexistent before the Civil War and very limited in Northern states. Once the civil war ended, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed and ... Following considerable deliberation, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified PAH into five major diagnostic categories (Table 1)(1). Transcription of ET 1 can be upregulated by various stimuli some of which include hypoxia, shear stress and pH. ET 1 receptors ET 1 activates two subtypes of endothelin receptors (ETA and ETB receptors) which are guanine nucleotide binding proteins(4). The two receptors have different locations within the vasculature and mediate different downstream pathways. As a result, ET 1 can have diverse effects on the vasculature. The vasoconstrictive effects of ET 1 are a result of predominately ETA and, to a lesser extent, ETB receptors which are expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Activation of these receptors leads to IP3 mediated increases in intracellular calcium from sarcoplasmic reticulum stores(4). This rise in intracellular calcium, results in increased smooth muscle contraction and subsequent vasoconstriction. Mitogenic effects of ET 1 can also be seen by activation of both receptors which results in VSMC proliferation and thus contributes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at the Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being honoured, and that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to them was to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted their offers, which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main elements to Octavian s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These areas of the empire were in need of the most defence; therefore, the majority of the Roman army was stationed there. Octavian s control over these regions now extended to the control of a large section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected annually and had authority over Rome and Italy. The three poems are each portraying different level of love relationships, to express their feelings, whether it is trueness, yearning or bitter. The first poem I am going to study is Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy. In Valentine Duffy introduces the reader to her own symbol of love, the onion, which is unusual because the onion is a very tremble, malodorous, bitter and unromantic entity. Duffy throughout the poem uses the onion as a metaphor for love and develops it in different ways to demonstrate parallels between the onion and love. In Valentine there is contradiction if Duffy is expressing feelings from a female perspective because usually a woman will receive a red rose , satin heart and a cute card or kissogram , therefore the persona probably conveys feelings from a male perspective. Which is a twist by Duffy, a persona who often had a feminist perspective. In addition Duffy once more has written a poem subject to controversy because there is negative attitude, a debate in the poem that normal valentines are not as honest this is evident on line eleven as a single line I am trying to be truthful . It is something beyond our control and it wasn t Henry s choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he wants to come out . If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He is probably tired of hiding himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well.
