Failure And How After Failure
Failure
It absolutely was difficult for me to think of your good career as my low academics profile
snatched all my confidence and made myself suffer from inferiority complex for some time. When
I failed in class 11th it was less shocking for me, but all my hopes of getting in to a good profession
shattered when I failed in the 11th. I passed my SSC with a miserable credit score of 44% and
performed my HSC Gujarat Board (12th Standard) for yourself and passed with 53% Marks. I
appeared for a few access tests for getting in Executive but failed in first attempt itself. Being from
a middle class family the expectations and academics failure frustrated me and literally has lost
my mental balance at some level. I was reading stories of failure and how after failure also people
become successful and I was motivated by Michael Jordan,
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can t accept not trying
In some manner I managed to get admission in Bachelor of Engineering and possess completed it
with 56% marks. During my graduation I understood that for a middle section class family only
assisting factor is studies and survive with self respect I can be sincere towards my studies. After
my graduating I tried again and appeared for recruitment examinations for the management level
but failed again. I also attempted for entrance exam for CAT to get into IIM s, and many bank
hiring exams but my planning was not adequate to even crack the first round. At last my

Oil Pollution in the Oceans
Oil
By the time the first oceanographers began widespread testing, the Industrial Revolution was well
underway and changes had already occurred. Since the industrial revolution, pollution has become a
major problem in this world. Pollutants cause damage by interfering directly or indirectly with the
biochemical processes of an organism. Some pollution induced changes may be instantly lethal;
other changes may weaken an organism over weeks or months, alter the dynamics of the population
of which it is a part, or gradually unbalance the entire community. There are many forms of
pollution, which include natural and man made. Oil is a natural pollutant that is spread by seeping,
dumping and spills.
Oil is naturally in the marine environment. Oil seeps have been leaking large quantities of oil into
the ocean for millions of years.
Because of our growing dependence on petroleum products, offshore drilling, and street runoff
carrying waste oil from automobiles, the amount of oil entering the ocean has increased greatly in
recent years. Every year more than 908 million liters of used motor oil finds its way into the ocean.
Motor oil that has been used is more toxic than crude oil or new oil because it has developed
carcinogenic and metallic components from the heat and pressure within internal combustion
engines.
Spills of crude oil are generally larger in volume and more frequent than spills of refined oil. Most
components of crude oil do not dissolve easily in water, but those

Chrysler Pacifica Essay
The all new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica arrives this spring.
If you thought the minivan segment was in its death throes, you aren t alone. Last year, segment
sales fell by 8 percent in a market where overall sales climbed by more than 5 percent.
However, much of that drop can be attributed to a shutdown at the Fiat Chrysler (FCA) plant in
Ontario, Canada early in 2015 explains GoodCarBadCar.net. That cessation allowed FCA to retool
the plant to prepare for an all new model, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, now in production.
The minivan market is certainly a small one, with just over 500,000 units sold in recent years. In
2000, just before the crossover SUV craze took hold, manufacturers sold a record 1.37 million
units according to Bloomberg. In 2009, that number plummeted to just 415,000 models sold, due in
part to an overall collapse in vehicle sales.

FCA s most profitable models are its Jeep and Ram products. Minivans are lucrative too, especially
when sold in greater numbers.
The end game strategy for CEO Sergio Marchionne is to make his company more appealing to
partners. Marchionne has made it clear that his company s future lies in the arm of a well heeled
suitor.
New 9 Speed Automatic Transmission
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica does have something in common with the outgoing Town Country:
both models are powered by a 3.6 liter, V 6 engine. This engine makes 287 horsepower and 262 foot
pounds of torque.
Notably, the transmission has been changed with the Pacifica getting Chrysler s new 9 speed
automatic, replacing the previous 6 speed. That improvement will result in a boost in fuel economy
to 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway; up from the previous 17/25 mpg city/highway.

The Beauty Of Spring, By Gerard Manley Hopkins
At first, Gerard Manley Hopkins s poem, Spring, seems to be just about the season of spring per
its title. However, in considering Hopkins s Catholic Christian background, this poem is also
about beauty and sin and their effects on nature in relation to the story in the book of Genesis
about Adam and Eve. Spring is a Petrarchan sonnet split into an octet and sestet and is organized in
such a way to allow Hopkins to discuss beauty and how it (through sin) corrupts itself and humanity
personified in the season of spring and Adam and Eve, accordingly. The themes of the beauty of
spring and the nature of the Garden and humanity are essential in the poet s Christian understanding
of sin and the Incarnation and Passion of JesusChrist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the case of this poem by Hopkins, no problem is introduced in the octet, but is in the
sestet. Hopkins signifies this turn by asking a question about the nature of spring s beauty and
where it is from, just as juice is the characteristic flavor and essence of fruit in one meaning of the
word (OED n.1.a.). Hopkins answers this question by mentioning the Christian view of the earth s
sweet being in the beginning, thus referring to the Garden of Eden in Genesis (10 11). As inferred
by Hopkins in the first stanza and the Christian tradition which he holds, the Garden was a place
of life and flourishing rather than death, and the beginning refers to the creation story involving
Adam and Eve. Thus, according to Hopkins, the beauty of spring is identified in the sestet as a
strain from the earth s sweet being in the beginning in the Garden of Eden (10 11). Furthermore,
the sestet involves a change of word choice and figurative language instead of merely a topic
change. After describing where spring s beauty arises, the poet prayerfully addresses Christ and
asks him to retrieve this strain of spring s beauty before it cloy[s] / cloud[s]...and [makes] sour
with sinning the innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy (10 13). In this address, cloy refers to
the potential for spring to disgust the innocence of Adam and Eve, the innocent...girl and boy, with
gratification beyond

Students With Learning Disabilities And Learning Differences
Intro
Being a teacher, one will encounter many students with learning disabilities or learning differences.
These things can be anything between attention deficit disorder to down syndrome. It is the teacher
s job to understand what that child is going through in order to ensure that they receive the best
available education possible. Now a teacher might say, I am not required to know how to teach
special education , which is where most of these students will be placed. But ones with minor
learning differences will be seen in everyday classroom environments. Therefore, a teacher should
want to educate every student to the best of their ability to ensure that no matter what learning
difference a child has that that child can be successful in life. One specific learning difference I am
going to talk about today is dyslexia. Many do not know what this learning difference really is or
even all of its causes, and symptoms. Many people probably do not know what the child has to go
through when getting an RTI or what that even is. They may not take in perspective on what
impact that child has on its family. Teachers should know how to give dyslexic children the best
education possible, and this starts out by getting with the family and forming and RTI. Then there
are many appropriate tools that may be used to ensure that the children can succeed in their
education.
Description, Causes, and Symptoms

Short And Long-Term Memory And Memory
Short and long term memory The short and long term memory are two memories storages
powerhouses within the brain that permit to save information that is retrievable by the individual
command. Short term memory is what we use when we try to hold a telephone number in our head
just long enough to dial it (Presley McCormick, 2007). Indeed, this short memoryprocess gives the
individual the ability to memory information that is relevant to perform a specific task such as
calling. On the other side of the spectrum, long term memory provides the individual to accesses
large pieces of information that was acquire more than a few minutes ago or even a long time ago it
could be years. The short and long term memory sometimes function together and in some occasion
function independently. Furthermore, the important pinpoint right here is that in the education
context the teacher must be informed and familiar with the short and long term memory concepts to
effectively teach students. Moreover, as someone that is entering the education profession these
two concepts have really resonated with me extensively. I can t wait to practice with my students
memory exercises that demonstrated the mental capacities they have. For the short memory some
exercises such as memorizing a phone number, a four digit pass code, and a password can be try in
the classroom to asses the individual student ability. On the other hand, for the long term memory in
class activities such as reciting a

Essay Comparing The Awakening and Story of an Hour
Comparing The Awakening and Story of an Hour
The heroine, Mrs. P, has some carries some characteristics parallel to Louise Mallard in Hour. The
women of her time are limited by cultural convention. Yet, Mrs. P, (like Louise) begins to
experience a new freedom of imagination, a zest for life , in the immediate absence of her husband.
She realizes, through interior monologues, that she has been held back, that her station in life
cannot and will not afford her the kind of freedom to explore freely and openly the emotions that
are as much a part of her as they are not a part of Leonce. Here is a primary irony.
Also, the rhetoric Chopin uses is full of contradictions from the beginning. not only that, but there

The relatively open and honest (less suppressed)culture of the Creoles is one which catalyzes her
human sensibilities. Who could blame her? Especially Madame Ratignolle, and the way Chopin
describes her sensuousness and warmth, would be compelling features it seems for anyone to be
attracted to and to want, almost unconsciously, to emulate. Second, the attentive nature of Robert
LeBrun is so marked and attractive when compared with Leonce s domineering, controlling, even
neglectful ways in which he treats (and does not treat) his family, (but with a measure of trying to
placate them as the result of his own selfishness at Klein s). When he wins, he forgets all about the
candy and peanuts he promised his children. With Edna, he is talkative, but not attentive. Still,
though, Edna is culturally in over her head when it comes to the sensual honesty and astonishingly
implicit trust of these men to let their wives do what they do at this time in history. Thus far, I see
an ostensibly lethal combination of Mme R and Robert working, however innocently in Edna s life.
A more obvious trigger for her sensual nature is Mlle Reisz, who upon playing for her at the
beginning, affords that pictures be conjured up in Edna s mind as she plays. After the
reinforcement of Robert s affections upon her, continuing to impart obsession into her mind, Mlle
R s playing hits the very core of her being, and we see that indeed her body and soul

Eyewitness Testimony Should Be Used In Court
Introduction
As time goes on, eyewitness testimony has become more and more of a disputed topic due to
many different factors. The first study I was exposed to was in an introductory psychology class
which sparked my interest into the topic. For this reason, I chose to look at different demographics
such as, gender and major, and see if those factors had any impact on the perception of eyewitness
testimony. My main issues remained the same throughout this research project. Research studies in
relation to eyewitness testimony have been going on for hundreds of years. A study done in 1999
by Marcus D. Durham and Francis C. Dane at Mercer University, looked at ways to assess
prospective jurors knowledge of the factors that may influence eyewitness behavior. Those factors
include topics such as race, memory processes, age, and stress. In addition, the researchers

reported that they strongly agree that eyewitness testimony should be used in court, while 25% (1)

with the statement. On the other hand, 50% of women (3) reported to somewhat agree that
eyewitness testimony should be used in court, while the other 50% of women (3) reported that they
somewhat disagree. This displays an even divide between the attitudes towards using eyewitness
testimony in court. In looking at the totality of the responses, six respondents agreed with the

Approach to Case Study
A case study is a description of an actual administrative situation involving a decision to be made
or a problem to be solved. It can be a real situation that actually happened just as described, or
portions have been disguised for reasons of privacy. Most case studies are written in such a way
that the reader takes the place of the manager whose responsibility is to make decisions to help
solve the problem. In almost all case studies, a decision must be made, although that decision might
be to leave the situation as it is and do nothing.
Answering A Case Study
It helps to have a system when sitting down to answer a case study as the amount of information
and issues to be resolved can initially seem quite overwhelming. The ... Show more content on

Some issues may appear to be urgent, but upon closer examination are relatively unimportant, while
others may be far more important (relative to solving our problem) than urgent. You want to deal
with important issues in order of urgency. Important issues are those that have a significant effect
on:
1.profitability,
2.strategic direction of the company,
3.source of competitive advantage,
4.morale of the company s employees, and/or
5.customer satisfaction.
The problem statement may be framed as a question, e.g.: What should Joe do? or How can Mr.
Smith improve market share?
Analyzing Case Data
In analyzing the case data, you are trying to answer the following:
1.Why or how did these issues arise? You are trying to determine cause and effect for the problems
identified. It may be helpful to think of the organization in question as consisting of the following
components:
1.resources, such as materials, equipment, or supplies, and
2.people who transform these resources using
3.processes, which creates something of greater value.
2.Who is affected most by this issues? You are trying to identify who are the relevant stakeholders
to the situation, and who will be affected by the decisions to be made.
3.What are the constraints and opportunities implicit to this situation? It is very rare that resources
are not a constraint, and allocations must be made on the assumption that not enough will be
available to please

The Purpose Of A Case Study
Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed
systems, which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles
and competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid
tool to analyse a complex issue. A case studyis defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a
contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand
complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer researchquestions and
contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation,
archival records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. In this... Show more

The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully
described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker
2001:191). Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time
consuming and may occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise
(1987: 165). With regard to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations
outweigh the weaknesses. In addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what
I want to investigate. The findings are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with
convergence since the research is derived from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise
any findings from this case study. I tried to provide readers with good raw material for their own
generalising because the reader can make his or her own generalisations and interpret it their way
(Stake, 1995:102). However, the findings will offer insights that could be probed for future

Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement
plays a major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In
this fourth grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to
earn marbles. Each group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher
will add a variety of different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions,
answering questions, paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other
positive behaviors and good choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of
tickets that students can earn to use to purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free
homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the teacher; sit in the rocking chair during
reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I observed the class, I realized this
system works really well for this group of students. The teacher would give the class directions.
For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The teacher did not have to say
anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of marbles, begin walking
around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to work. Once she
spotted a group doing what was asked, she placed the marbles in their jar. She followed the steps
until she was out of marbles. Students were ready to work fast. The clink

The generation of NACs started when it has become the era of BYOD. This has become the reason
for potential network security risk. Through NAC, a device is forced to properly identify itself

Managed Care Essay
Managed care dominates health care in the United States. It is any health care delivery system that
combines the functions of health insurance and the actual delivery of care, where costs and
utilization of services are controlled by methods such as gatekeeping, case management, and
utilization review. Different types of managed careplans came into development by three major
factors. These factors include choice of providers, different ways of arranging the delivery of
services, and payment and risk sharing. Types of managed care organizations include Health
Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) which consist of five common models that differ according to
how the HMO is related to the participating physicians, Preferred Provider Organizations... Show

Case managers also provide support and information to patients and their families. Next, is
utilization review. `Its main objective is to review each case and determine the most appropriate
level of services, the most appropriate settings in which the services be delivered, the most cost
efficient methods for care delivery and the need for planning of subsequent care. Other methods
used for utilization and control are choice restriction and practice profiling (Douglas, 2003, p.328).
The types of managed care are differentiated by definition, operation, structure, and information
needs. `HMOs were the most common type of MCO until commercial insurance companies
developed PPOs to compete with HMOs (Douglas, 2003, p.331). `HMOs are business entities that
either arrange for or provide health services to an enrolled population after prepayment of a fixed
sum of money, called a premium (Peden, 1998, p.78). There are three characteristics that an HMO
must have. The first is a health care financing and delivery system that provides services for
members in a particular geographic area. Second, is ensured access to a complete range of health
care services, health maintenance, treatment, and routine checkups. Last, health care must be
obtained from voluntary personnel that participate in the HMO. The five HMO models related to
the participating physicians are the Staff

Perhaps I m writing about it because of what I have learned about my relationship with the disease.
Perhaps the time has come when I m readyto stop cursing the depression and start embracing it.

might not be so bad? She had accepted that her deafness was a part of her life, without allowing
it to define who she was. For quite a while, I wasn t able to see my depression in that way. When
it was first diagnosed, I didn t want to admit that this was something that would affect my
existence. I wanted to rid myself of the illness immediately. As the years passed, however, I let
myself become the incarnation of the disease. Lurking at the edge of my consciousness was the
thought that I should resist the attempts to heal the depression. A part of me believed that if I let

subtle but significant.
I have finally reached the point where I can see both the horrors and the beauty of depression. It is

happiness. Had I not experienced the heartache of personal defeat, I would not find such succor in
emotional triumph. Had there not been times when I thought of

The Boeing 7E7
WACC Estimation
In order to evaluate the prospective IRRs from the Boeing 7E7, we first try to estimate an
appropriate required rate of return for accepting this project. The capital asset pricing model is
applied to estimate the cost of equity of the commercial aircraft division:
R_EC= ОІ_EC*(R_M R_f )+R_f where REC is the cost of equity capital of the commercial aircraft
division. ОІEC is the beta for the commercial division of Boeing. This beta is used instead of the
company s overall beta is because the 7E7 project is a project on the commercial aircraft section.
It will help to improve the evaluation process when comparing the WACC with the IRR. Rm is the

In addition, the downturn of business cycle and advance in video conferencing technologies also
affect the company estimation of future demand. It predicts that during the next 20 years,
economies will grow annually by 3.2%, and air travel will grow with GDP at an annual rate of
5.1%. According to this long term market outlook, it suggests that there will certain be a market for
7E7.
Market Share Airbus will launch their new large, long distance plane A380 in 2006. This plane can
be a dreadful competitive product to Boeing. If Boeing falls behind regarding innovations, fuel
efficiency and other attributes of a long haul airliner, it will soon lose its market share. In order for
Boeing to compete in the aviation industry, it is crucial to take on some risk and develop this new
7E7 project. This helps the company to fight against its competitors and recover from the slump in
the industry.
Financial Analysis The sensitivity analysis on IRR provided by the case in Exhibit 9 is
demonstrated in Table 3 in Appendix. With reference to the calculated WACC, 11.22%, most of
the circumstances considered in the sensitivity analysis suggest the acceptance of the 7E7
project. However, if the air travel demand worsened and sold only 1500 in the first 20 years, the
project will be abandoned even if there is a 5% premium in price. If the unit volume sold is equal to

The Glass Ceiling, By Charlotte Perkins Stetson
Faces of Women The glass ceiling is something still very present in today s society. Women in
the workforce are constantly trying to break through barriers set by society to break away from
stereotypes. Many women work twice as hard and still get paid significantly less than their male
co workers. They experience sex typing from a young age being pushed to study more feminine
occupations, such as nursing. While on the other hand men are encouraged to seek positions of
power and leadership. If a womandecides to choose an occupation that demands the use of

The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients
The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy
studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The
purpose of the study was to assess the safety of non inflammatory drugs to treat cardiovascular
disease (BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study s 10 million participants, 92% had
cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofenreduced risk of
worsening cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For
minors, physicians lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above
age seventy seven who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack.
Various ages, races, and sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of
frequent ibuprofen users. Long term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract.
Ibuprofen was later found to lead to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to
consult a GI doctor before consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen enriched blood,
which may result in heart failure. Readers will draw focus on the alarm and potential health scares
through medical evidence. As I compared the British Medical Journaland the guardian, all relative
information must be relayed throughout the document. All research shown in the BMJwas fully

The Role Of Dysphasia In Parkinson s Disease
What is dysphasia? Dysphasia is defined as the difficulty of food moving from the mouth to the
stomach (Logemann, 1983); however, this definition can be expanded. According to Logemann
(1983), this definition has been expanded to include all of the motor, behavioral, and sensory
acts that are needed to prepare the body for the process of the swallow as well as cognitive
abilities, and physiological responses to the smell of the food or liquid. A disorder can occur to
any of these functions, so typically the process is broken down by the phases of the swallow. Such
as, oral dysphasia, pharyngeal dysphasia, and esophageal dysphasia (Logemann, 1983). The list of
signs and symptoms are endless due to the fact that the process has so many steps,... Show more

In recent years statistics have shown that this occurs anywhere from one third for four fifths of
patients who have been diagnosed with Parkinson s disease. According to Rajaei et al. (2014),
the statistics are higher, saying that oropharyngeal dysphasia occurs in up to 80% of Parkinson
s patients but increases up to 95 100% of patients in the latter more progressed stages of the
disease. This occurs because of the motor loss in the patient s body from the lack of dopamine
being produced in the brain (Ellerston et al., 2016). According to (Argolo et al., 2013), rigidity
and brandykinesia formed in the oralpharyngeal muscles, lack of coordination between breathing
and swallowing, and the loss or reduction of sensation in the oral cavity and pharynx are all
involved in the patients dysphasia. Ellerston et al. (2016) reviewed studies done on Parkinson s
patients diagnosed with dysphasia using videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (MBS) study.
According to Ellerston et al. (2016), these studies revealed that the patients had impaired laryngeal
movement, palatal elevation deficits, lack of epiglottic movement, anterior hyoid bone movement,
and vocal fold adduction deficits. The modified barium swallowing studies also revealed that the
patients with Parkinson s also showed prolonged pharyngeal transit times (Ellerston et al., 2016).
Because of these deficits in the musculature Ellerston et al.(2016), reported that it would lead to
vallecular pooling and residue, possible laryngeal penetration, and possible aspiration which could
lead to respiratory illnesses or aspiration pneumonia. Ellerston et al. (2016), also revealed from
reviewing past literature that when comparing the patients results of the bedside screening to the
results of the MBS, almost 80% of the swallowing disorders went unnoticed, including patients who
were aspirating. Ellerston et

Effects Of Oppression On African American Teenagers
The factors of the effects of oppression in the lives of African American teenagers is the opposite of
the factors in which that would produce The American Dream . The restrictions and exclusions of
the government, history, and irrational mindsets has caused many African American teenagers to
depend on unorthodox alternatives for the use of spare time, making money, and the feeling of
acceptance. Oppression of African American teenagers has caused poor education, violence, gang
activity, broken or dysfunctional homes, and health issues. Hatred is another major factor of the
effects of oppression in the lives of African American teenagers. Oppression is also the cause of
civil wars, and a disunited nation. Oppression doesn t just effect the oppressed, it effects everything
around it including the oppressors. Due to the discrimination of African Americans, and oppression
resulting from it, the government, justice system, educational system, and society has made it clear
that African American teenagers obtaining a thorough and effective education is the least of their
concerns. It is almost as though African American teenagers are purposely being set up to fail. As
stated in The Oppression of Black People, The Crimes of This System and the Revolution we need

predominantly Black and Latino schools receiving fewer resources and set up to fail. These

American Persuasive Speech
America is described as the land of the free, people want to live here, are willing to leave
everything they ve ever known for a shot at the American dream. However there s some problems
in this country. Kneeling for the anthem is a disrespectful and undignified thing to do. People have
risked their lives, some even have lost their lives, fighting for our freedom. The mass shootings in
America is gruesome. Innocents have died because a couple of people wantto pull a silly stunt.ВЁ
All people care about nowadays is their social status. Children have changed dramatically over the
years because of what their social status is. America is becoming unsafe, generationZ defines being

Recently, there has been an outburst in the NFL, the players have been kneeling for the anthem.
It s their decision to do such a thing but it s disrespectful and rude to kneel during the anthem

After the first coffee houses launch, it became more than just a place for people to drink coffee

the differences in seizures, safety precautions and nursing interventions. Before initiating
presentation, I provided 4 NCLEX style questions for pre test and a handout. In the packet,
information regarding etiology, manifestations of the 6 types of seizures and nursing

The Hoover Dam and Its Construction Essay
Outside of China, the United States is the most dammed country on the planet. Counting only
dams taller than fifty feet high, the U.S. has some 5,000 dams that range from giant
hydroelectric dams such as the Grand Coulee in Washington State to flood control dams in the
southeast and dams that provide water for irrigation in California. Overall the United States has
as many as 2.5 million dams of one sort or another. The design and construction of many of these
dams took place between 1930 and 1975. This 45 years period is known as the golden age of dam
building, starting with the construction of the Hoover Dambeginning in 1931. By the 1970s the

Since the dam was located in such a remote location roads and railways had to be built to bring
the workers and materials to the site. Boulder City, a camp was also built to house the thousands
of workers. Before the construction of Hoover Dam even began Six Companies, Inc. had
received over 2,400 job applications and more than 12,000 letters of inquiry from job seekers.
Many men arrived with all of their possessions and their families ready to begin a new life in the
desert. Many of these people were forced to wait and live in tent communities and shantytowns
around Las Vegas. This created very poor living conditions where more than 25 workers and
family members died of heat prostration between June and July of 1931. Fortunately the U.S.
government anticipated this problem and had already created plans to build a modern city, known
as Boulder City, to house the workers and their families near the site of Hoover Dam. To the
surprise of both the government and Six Companies, Inc. Boulder City turned into a community.
Churches, a school, a newspaper, and a library were all built in Boulder City making it a model
community [iii].
Before construction of the actual dam could take place the Colorado River first had to be diverted,
this was done by tunneling four huge diversion tunnels through the bedrock of Black Canyon.

The Failure of Technology in White Noise by Don Delillo
One particularly unfortunate trait of modern society is our futile attempt to use technology to
immunize ourselves against the fear of death. The failure of technology in this regard is the
general subject of Don Delillo s book White Noise. Throughout this novel, technology is depicted
as the ominous messenger of our common fate, an increasing sense of dread over loss of control
of our lives and the approach of inevitable death in spite of the empty promises of technology. In
this essay I will examine Delillo s portrayal of technology and its role in our society.

The Value Of The Cash Flow
Part: B
Net Present Value (NPV) calculates the present value of the cash flow which is based on the
opportunity cost of capital and comes up with a value that is added to the wealth of the
shareholders if that project is accepted.
Apart from Net present Value (NPV) there are a couple of more methods for investment appraisal
such as internal rate of return (IRR), Payback period (PBP) and Profitability Index (PI).
Net Present Value(NPV) vs. Payback Period (PBP):
Payback period calculates the period in which the initial amount invested in the project is recovered.
The project is accepted or rejected based on the benchmark set by the firm. If the payback period
is less than or equal to the benchmark the firm will accept the project and ... Show more content on

Such a problem does not exist with NPV.
Net Present Value (NPV) vs. Profitability Index (PI)
Profitability index is a ratio between the discounted cash inflow to the initial cash outflow. It
presents a value which says how many times of the investment is the returns in the form of
discounted cash flows.
The disadvantage associated with this method again is its relativity. A project can have same
profitability index with different investments and vast difference in absolute dollar return. NPV has
an upper hand in this case.
Conclusion:
We have noted that almost all the difficulties are survived by net present value and that is why it is
considered to be the best way to analyze, evaluate, and select big investment projects. At the same
time, the estimation of cash flows requires carefulness because if the cash flow estimation is wrong,
NPV is bound to be misleading.
A small problem with NPV is that it also considers the same discounting rate for both cash inflow
and outflows. We know that there are differences between borrowing and lending rates. Modified
internal rate of return is another method which is little more complex but improved which takes
care of the difference between borrowing and lending rates also as it discounts cash inflows at
lending rates and cash outflow at borrowing rates.

(Mrazova, 2013) In the aviation industry today, composites have replaced previously used materials
such as titanium and aluminum in the manufacturing of wings, skins, primary load bearing
structures, and fuselages.
However, composites are not wonder materials, in the aviation world, and do have their own
disadvantages. Internal damage to composite materials, from a low speed impact, though it shows
no external or surface evidence, could result in delamination between the internal layers, or plies of
composite material. It is in these circumstances that structural engineers have concerns regarding
complex repairs structural tolerances. Because of the threat of delamination, engineers who design
composite structures take special care to make certain that loads placed on the composites are
primarily in plane where the fibers are strong and that buckling does not occur. Compounding the
difficulties confronting engineers, composites cannot be inspected for weakness or internal damage
in the same way that metals can. Delamination and cracks in the composite matrix are usually
internal to the composite and will not be visible from the surface. Techniques are available to find
such faults such as the embedded sensors previously mentioned but they require a different

Why Is Phonics Instruction An Integral Part Of The...
1.Explain what is meant by Explicit and Implicit phonics instruction. There are several approaches
to teach children to read. Explicit Phonic Instruction is build from part to whole; children first
receive instruction of the letters with associated sounds, and after they learn how to blend sounds
into the syllables and into the words. Implicit PhonicsInstructions moves from the whole to the
smallest parts: first, students are analyzing words and looking for common phonemes in a group of
words. After comparison they assume which grapheme to write and which phonemeto read.

Children who have difficulties with distinguishing and manipulating sounds usually have

the ability to classify similar sounds and recognize phonemic patterns (rhyming words, similarities

The Victorian Er Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender...
The Victorian Era: Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender Roles In 1868, British author Wilkie
Collins wrote what is now famously known as one of the first full length detective stories, The
Moonstone. Within this text, he explores and transcends his writing style, as he created an
atmosphere full of suspense and gothic tradition by making use of two genres famous in the
Victorian Era (Ayton, 2). As Collins managed to challenge the roles of men and women within The
Moonstone, he ultimately attempts to reverse genders by creating a story of conflict, where the
women are essentially in charge. As many genderstereotypes are expressed within The Moonstone
through the different narrators of the novel, almost all of them become discredited as we are
introduced to the other characters. By making use of the characters like Betteredge, Lady
Verinder, and finally Rachel Verinder, Collins novel proves to break society s barrier of expected
roles for men and women within the Victorian Era. During the Victorian period, men and women s
roles became more sharply defined than at any time in history. This concept of roles, became
extremely significant within Wilkie Collins The Moonstone (1868), as he incorporated the issues
seen during that era, with the roles and expectations of the women in his novel. Because many of
the women seen throughout Collins novel are more assertive than one would expect from a
Victorian novelist, Collins shows women acting forcefully on their own, which

My Vocation In School
A vocation is one s calling in life. We are called to many different areas that it almost seems hard
to know which path is right to follow. This year is my junior year in highschool and I am already

magnitude is extremely hard and daunting to make. How am I supposed to know what my true

What Is The Theme Of The Pie By Gary Soto
At some point in almost everyone s childhood, there is a moment of deliberate wrongdoing,
followed by panic and guilt. Perhaps it is standing on the water spout outside the house and
neglecting to inform an adult when the pipe breaks and spews water into the backyard. Maybe it
is lying to a parent about the whereabouts of a dollar after the ice cream truck goes by. For author
Gary Soto, it was stealing a piefrom the neighborhood grocery store. In his autobiography, Soto
recounts the story and emotions of his six year old self taking an apple pie off the rack and
walking home with it, only to be overwhelmed by a guilt ridden conscience. Throughout the

This changes with the appearance of Cross Eyed Johnny, a neighborhood boy who asks for some
pie and is denied. Soto continues to eat, but tears blurred [his] eyes as [he] remembered the

had ever tasted but rather because he felt true guilt. He is reminded of the angelic grocer, and
even though he is beginning to feel horrible continues to stuff his face with pie. Cross Eyed
Johnny comments, your hands are dirty, before [climbing] his roof to watch the other boy eat.
This once again brings up the symbolism of dirty hands, as though they are tainted with sin. The
symbolism intensifies as Cross Eyed Johnny [jumps] off and [hobbles] away because the fall
had hurt him . This represents a fall from grace, for the young Soto has committed perhaps the
worst sin of his six year long life. He begins to feel paranoid and sees the pie tin [glaring] at [him]

like he is being watched and judged for his sin, and wet imagery is once again used to describe the

Requiring no form of an invitation, the challenges that individuals face throughout a lifespan are
least likely to receive a warm reception. These obstacles often cause an elevation of emotions and
negative modifications to behavior which requires positive and effective decision making methods
in order to overcome. Although trial and error through experience is often summed up by saying
experience is the best teacher (Speake, 2015), studies over the years reveal positive effects from

participants the opportunity to communicate with peers who share identifiable commonalities.
Additionally, a cohesive collaboration of activities, such as problem solving games, encouraged

benefits of group therapy offer participants the chance to relax while learning new skills and,
perhaps, build new bonds with other students that may not have otherwise been possible (Down,

Inequality In Virginia Woolf
We are all created equal, but we are not treated as equals. We like to believe that everyone is
equal, but society doesn t treat everyone as what they were when created, equal. Virginia Woolf
writes of society s inequality through describing two meals from two different colleges. What
mattered was neither where the college was nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was
for men and the other for women. Woolf was was served one mealfrom the colleges and there were
some striking differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and emotional
appeal help support her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared to men. In reading both
passages, there is a clear difference in her vocabulary for describing the meals. Here, however, I
shall take the liberty to defy that convention and to tell you that the lunchon this occasion began
with soles, sunk in deep dish, over which the college cook had spread a counterpane of the whitest
cream, save that it was branded here and there with brown spots like the spots on the flanks of a
doe (Woolf, Passage1, Sentence 4). Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup. There was
nothing to stir the fancy in that (Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). Not only was there a change in
vocabulary, but there was also a change in the length of her sentences. Woolf s experience in the
men s college was given a lot of detail compared to her experience in the women s college. We can
infer, from her vocabulary, that the

The Importance Of Education On Education
What do you think about when you hear the United States of America? What comes to your head?
You might be thinking about the big American dream, which is going to school, studying to
become a doctor or anything you want and making millions. When our parents came to America
they were thinking about what was best for our future in educationand finance. That is why they
came here. So would you think that you or your parents would be devastated to come to realize
that the US is 14th in the world when it comes to education? I am not saying that is bad by any
means. However, if you are the richest country in the world, that also means you have the most
resources so there should be no reason to be 14, you should be 1st, or at least in the top 5.
One of the most well educated country on the planet is South Korea. South Korea doesn t spend
nearly as much on education as the United States. South Korea spends 11.3 million on education.
On the other hand, the United States spends 1 trillion on education. Therefore having a well
educated nation is not a question of money. According to Organization for Economic Cooperation
and Development America spends more on education than any other nation. ( WHAT country
spends the most on education , n.d.). Some of the reasons for this is because about 1.2 million
students drop out each year which is 7000 kids per day. To add on 25 percent of freshmen fail to
graduate high school. On the contrary South Korea doesn t give you an option of dropping

Leonid Afremov’s Painting, Alley by the Lake
Secure romantic relationships are based on trust and understanding. They are developed over time
and tend to last the longest; however, just because a couple feels secure doesn t mean the couple is
necessarily happy. While every healthy relationship shines with rays of trust and happiness,
shadows often lurk filled with lies and deceit. A painting, entitled Alley by the Lake, by Leonid
Afremov portrays the secure, yet secret, side to relationships.
Happiness holds relationships together. Finding someone who makes feelings arise, plastering a
smiling on one s face, draws any person in. It s the warmth one wants and the intensity one longs
for. Without this feeling, there is no reason to become involved. There would be no relational...

Reds and oranges are colors that one links with warmth and feeling. The warm colors in the
painting represent the love that is present which ultimately connects back to intimacy and
companionship.
Emotional security takes the longest to develop. It s putting one s full trust into the relationship. A
study was done where adults, involved in a romantic relationship, were asked to take a
questionnaire. The questionnaire focused on how emotionally secure a partner was in their
relationship. They related these findings back to infant mother research that was previously
concluded by other researchers. These researchers also blamed the outcome of their experiment,
where 56% felt emotionally secure in their relationships, on prior love experiences (Hazan Shaver,
1987, p. 511 515). This study further proves how difficult it is for a couple to reach emotional
security, after having immoral past love experiences. While the painting cannot easily express this
aspect of happiness, the couple walking arm in arm in an empty park shows the safety they feel
with one another.
Beyond happiness, as the romantic relationship evolves, and the peak of the happiness fades, trust
can start to falter. Secrets form and lies build. These secrets start small, but they can grow. A study,
whose focus was on the sexual betrayal by a romantic partner despite an agreement to be
monogamous (Feldman, Cauffman, Jensen

Gates Vs Cambridge Police Case Study
Gates vs. The Cambridge Police: The Cause of Controversy
On July 20, 2009 a police dispatcher received a call from a concerned woman who believed a
robbery was in progress. Lucia Whalen, the witness, reported seeing two black males with
backpacks trying to gain entry into the home. From there police were immediately sent to the
residence on Ware Street to investigate the situation. At around 12:45 P.M. Sergeant James
Crowley met with the woman who placed the 9 1 1 call. In the police report, he stated that he had
become aware of an older, black male standing in the foyer as he was speaking with Lucia Whalen
outside . The man, later identified as Henry Louis Gates, Jr., was the owner of the residential home
located on 17 Ware Street in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone has an excuse to justify their inappropriate behavior but nobody wants point out others
faults out of fear of being known as intolerant or racist . Henry Gates attributed the incident to his
black skin, along with Barrack Obama, the black community and the media which circulated the
incident resulting in more racial conflict and division. If the Sergeant was indeed driven by
racist intent then the man who teaches diversity ethics to all the new cadets is in the wrong
profession and needs to reevaluate his call of duty. In conjunction to the officers actions to
continue to question the well known, Professor Gates, he could have been making an example of
the repercussions that ensue when you fail to comply and shout accusations based on bias.
Situations are going to arise that might not be fair, right or even believable. However, the way
you carry yourself through the trials will determine not only your character but it can also have a
huge effect on the outcome .For example, my father oncehad a very similar encounter as Professor
Gates. One night he set the house alarm without knowing the password and accidentally opened the
door the following morning to get the daily paper. As he stood in the driveway glancing through
the front page news, several patrol cars came

Plants and Intellegence
Have you ever wonder if plants have intellect? Although plants have no brains there are reasons to
believe that plants can communicate, measure time, recognise related plants, and have memory. If
these theories that plants were to have intelligence were proven whole new doors could swing
open for scientists, and could change views on evolution and change the views on the world and its
plants. Science could look deeper into how beings have intelligence without a brain, and the human
race could expand our knowledge of the plantkingdom. But how do plants have intellect? To
understand plant intelligence, one must understand the basics of plants. Plants are found on land, in
oceans, and in fresh water. They have been on Earth for millions of years. Plants were on Earth
before animals and there are currently about 260,000 species of plants. There are many of plants
throughout the world but there is one thing they all have one thing in common. Photosynthesis.
Without photosynthesis plants couldn t exist. Plants and animals could not survive without each
other. Animals, including humans, do the opposite of photosynthesis; we breathe in oxygen and
breathe out carbon dioxide meaning we give plants more carbon dioxide, and they give us more
oxygen. Not only does photosynthesis create oxygen but photosynthesis is how plants eat. This
process allows plants to create sugars by taking energy from the sun. Since plants are stationary and
cannot move to find food , they make

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Appeal By Stephan H. Browne
The rhetorical analysis of the Appeal by Stephan H. Browne gives further insight about
perfectibilism in the document. In the third chapter of Rhetoric Public Affairs: Angelina Grimke:
Rhetoric, Identity, and the Radical Imagination, Browne contends that Angelina Grimke employed
a rhetorical strategy for the reimagining of community and reconceiving of past, to encourage
acceptance for her abolitionist vision of the future. In the Appeal, Angelina focused toward her
audience of southern Christian women and seeks to use that understanding to connect with them
and contend that the abolitionist cause cares for them. She also uses her analysis of biblical
matters to reinterpret the meaning of the bible and its significance to these women and their time.
The bible is thus contended to be a basis for condemning and opposing slavery, and that by their
status, of them as Christian women in the context of Southern plantation society, they should work
to oppose it. This is followed by a prescription of action tailored to both the audience s religious
tendencies, and to the possible actions they may take in the context of their social status.
This portrayal of the Appeal s rhetoric suggests a form of perfectibilism in the interpretation of the
past and community basis. Rather than merely calling out problems in the past about how
American and particularly southern society has engaged in slavery, it works to change the basis of
historical community for her audience. The bible is

Funding Planned Parenthood
Funding Planned Parenthood
Where the money should come from and why by Carlos Del Carmen, Hari Buenfil, Sarah Glaser
Given the misinformation depicted in the media it is difficult to discern what Planned Parenthood
does and exactly how it is that they allocate their funds. Though opponents of Planned Parenthood
would have us believe abortions and contraception is what they do, health screenings and
prevention is a more accurate description. More so given the array of services they offered and the
fact that those they serve are mainly from the uninsured and underrepresented minority population.
Though steeped in controversy, Planned Parenthood services are of great benefit to society, more
so given their efforts in preventive care. Because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Biomes In The Tundra
Biomes are a large community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat. There are nine major
biomes in the world which include; tundra, taiga, temperate forest, tropical forest, desert, savanna,
chaparral, freshwater, and marine/salt water. All of the biomes need to be protected over the past
several years, human activity has destroyed, exploited, or polluted many of the biomes. They are
spilt in three regions, temperate, tropical, and polar. And have two broad habitat types, terrestrial
and aquatic.
The tundra is a frosty biome, which makes it difficult for plants and animals similar to survive. This
biome is classified as terrestrial (living mainly on land, such as continental land masses or islands).

Leaves of deciduous trees drop during autumn and winter. This biome receives 30 to 60 inches
of rain each year. Temperate deciduous forests have a substantial range of plant species. There
are three levels of plants. Lichen, and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Shrubs
fill in the middle level and hardwood trees like maple, oak, and beech make up the third level.
The taiga and the temperate deciduous forest overlap. There is a large diversity of animals in this

Capacity For Empathy
The capacity for empathy allows us to better understand others and to be easier to read their
energy. However, this is a feature that can be harmful, so it is important to know how not to be
subject to other people s emotions and energies.
If you identified yourself as an overly empathetic person, would be good for yourself to take action
that you won t longer be harassed by the things which don t have anything to do with you. It is
important to keep energy for yourself and the people you love and that in their system do not miss
the information, emotion, and energy that you damage and draw strength.

When you are in contact with a person who does not suit you or you are in an environment that is
full of bad energy, visualize around you a transparent shield which does not transmit negative
energy and not let other people s negative emotions reach you.
Use the power of water
After a contact with a person who is very negative will be suitable for you to wash down all that
energy from yourself. If you are not able to take a shower, then at least wash your hands. Imagine
how the accumulated negative energy goes far away from you.
Express your emotions
Whatever you feel, it is important to express. Suppressing emotions never brought anything good to
anyone , in contrary, leads only to various diseases. Allow yourself to express concern, fear, anger,
disagreement, or anything else you feel.

Imagine that you are connected to the ground with the pipes through which you send all your

There is More to Rap Music Than Just Violent Lyrics Essay
There is More to Rap Music Than Just Violent Lyrics
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to show that there is more to rap and hip hop lyrics
than what most people take them for. It cannot be disputed that violence is a major theme in this
genre of music, but the lyrics of artists who have been able to stay in the game for a long time
show that overtime the subject of their song matter varies with their experiences and success. Two
artists who are very well respected in the rap industry and who have been around for awhile, Nas
and Jay Z both show a wide variety of topics in their music and that with success their music went
from violent tales to songs that are more fun, more positive and more concerned with material
things. Using a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jay Z explains in one song #8230; I never prayed to God, a Pray to Gotti. The desire for material
things is something very common to those that are listening. Jay Z, coming from the same back
round writes songs on things he knows and surrounds him. Besides the hunger another subject
that is very common to this subculture is violence. It is not a coincidence that violence is a
subject matter prevalent in both the music and the subculture. Like Donna Gaines, Nas and Jay
Z acts as sociologists reporting what they see. Nas writes on the graphic violence that he is
accustomed to #8230; Straight up *censored* is real and any day could be your last in the
jungle get murdered on the humble, guns ll blast, niggaz tumble the corners is the hot spot, full
of mad criminals who don t care guzzling beers #8230; Donna Gaines writes that she has
observed that the burnouts drink in front of a 7 11, Nas also explains that criminals hang out on
the corner. Both Donna and Nas write about what they observe. It is true that violence is a major
theme in this music, but that is because the artists are writing about the real issues that are present
in the subculture whom they are part of. If Jay Z and Nas continued to write song lyrics covering
the same things in their first album in their later one s, than it could be argued there is too much
nonsense and violence in lyrics. However, that is not

and negative effects it has on society. The report goes into detail on how job availability, education,
immigration and market forces affect the distribution of income and wealth. The purpose of the
report is to evaluate the significance of these effects, discuss why this inequality is a critical issue
and suggest possible solutions to reduce the negative impacts on society. The report describes trends
in income and wealth inequality over time. Within these trends, the effects on the health, criminal
behavior and financial stability of Canadians, and the economy are analyzed. Additionally, the

For example, in a hierarchical structure, there are a greater amount of lower level jobs compared
to high level executive roles. In this case, there are more employees with low income positions
than employees in high income positions. In May of 2016, Statistics Canada conducted a study
that showed that the majority of in demand jobs in Canada were considered low paying
positions (Statistics Canada, 2016). For example, Figure 1 shows that of the 353 000 job
vacancies in Canada, 50 000 of these were in either retail salespeople or food counter worker
position (Statistics Canada, 2016). Since there are more available jobs in positions that receive
lower incomes, this inevitably results in more people earning less which widens the income gap.
Education The amount of education received is highly correlated with income level. Generally,
people who have more years of education earn more money than those with less education. For
example, in 2015, more than two thirds of the top one percent of income earners, 54.6 percent of
the top five percent of income earners and 50.3 percent of the top ten percent of income earners
held a university degree. However, only 20.9 percent of the total Canadian population over 15 years
old held a university degree which shows the direct correlation with high income and education
(Statistics Canada, 2017). Furthermore, currently within the top ten percent of income earners, one
in ten of those have a

  • 2. Failure And How After Failure Failure It absolutely was difficult for me to think of your good career as my low academics profile snatched all my confidence and made myself suffer from inferiority complex for some time. When I failed in class 11th it was less shocking for me, but all my hopes of getting in to a good profession shattered when I failed in the 11th. I passed my SSC with a miserable credit score of 44% and performed my HSC Gujarat Board (12th Standard) for yourself and passed with 53% Marks. I appeared for a few access tests for getting in Executive but failed in first attempt itself. Being from a middle class family the expectations and academics failure frustrated me and literally has lost my mental balance at some level. I was reading stories of failure and how after failure also people become successful and I was motivated by Michael Jordan, I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can t accept not trying In some manner I managed to get admission in Bachelor of Engineering and possess completed it with 56% marks. During my graduation I understood that for a middle section class family only assisting factor is studies and survive with self respect I can be sincere towards my studies. After my graduating I tried again and appeared for recruitment examinations for the management level but failed again. I also attempted for entrance exam for CAT to get into IIM s, and many bank hiring exams but my planning was not adequate to even crack the first round. At last my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Oil Pollution in the Oceans Oil By the time the first oceanographers began widespread testing, the Industrial Revolution was well underway and changes had already occurred. Since the industrial revolution, pollution has become a major problem in this world. Pollutants cause damage by interfering directly or indirectly with the biochemical processes of an organism. Some pollution induced changes may be instantly lethal; other changes may weaken an organism over weeks or months, alter the dynamics of the population of which it is a part, or gradually unbalance the entire community. There are many forms of pollution, which include natural and man made. Oil is a natural pollutant that is spread by seeping, dumping and spills. Oil is naturally in the marine environment. Oil seeps have been leaking large quantities of oil into the ocean for millions of years. Because of our growing dependence on petroleum products, offshore drilling, and street runoff carrying waste oil from automobiles, the amount of oil entering the ocean has increased greatly in recent years. Every year more than 908 million liters of used motor oil finds its way into the ocean. Motor oil that has been used is more toxic than crude oil or new oil because it has developed carcinogenic and metallic components from the heat and pressure within internal combustion engines. Spills of crude oil are generally larger in volume and more frequent than spills of refined oil. Most components of crude oil do not dissolve easily in water, but those ... • 4. Chrysler Pacifica Essay The all new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica arrives this spring. If you thought the minivan segment was in its death throes, you aren t alone. Last year, segment sales fell by 8 percent in a market where overall sales climbed by more than 5 percent. However, much of that drop can be attributed to a shutdown at the Fiat Chrysler (FCA) plant in Ontario, Canada early in 2015 explains GoodCarBadCar.net. That cessation allowed FCA to retool the plant to prepare for an all new model, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, now in production. The minivan market is certainly a small one, with just over 500,000 units sold in recent years. In 2000, just before the crossover SUV craze took hold, manufacturers sold a record 1.37 million units according to Bloomberg. In 2009, that number plummeted to just 415,000 models sold, due in part to an overall collapse in vehicle sales. Chrysler ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FCA s most profitable models are its Jeep and Ram products. Minivans are lucrative too, especially when sold in greater numbers. The end game strategy for CEO Sergio Marchionne is to make his company more appealing to partners. Marchionne has made it clear that his company s future lies in the arm of a well heeled suitor. New 9 Speed Automatic Transmission The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica does have something in common with the outgoing Town Country: both models are powered by a 3.6 liter, V 6 engine. This engine makes 287 horsepower and 262 foot pounds of torque. Notably, the transmission has been changed with the Pacifica getting Chrysler s new 9 speed automatic, replacing the previous 6 speed. That improvement will result in a boost in fuel economy to 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway; up from the previous 17/25 mpg city/highway. • 5. The Beauty Of Spring, By Gerard Manley Hopkins At first, Gerard Manley Hopkins s poem, Spring, seems to be just about the season of spring per its title. However, in considering Hopkins s Catholic Christian background, this poem is also about beauty and sin and their effects on nature in relation to the story in the book of Genesis about Adam and Eve. Spring is a Petrarchan sonnet split into an octet and sestet and is organized in such a way to allow Hopkins to discuss beauty and how it (through sin) corrupts itself and humanity personified in the season of spring and Adam and Eve, accordingly. The themes of the beauty of spring and the nature of the Garden and humanity are essential in the poet s Christian understanding of sin and the Incarnation and Passion of JesusChrist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the case of this poem by Hopkins, no problem is introduced in the octet, but is in the sestet. Hopkins signifies this turn by asking a question about the nature of spring s beauty and where it is from, just as juice is the characteristic flavor and essence of fruit in one meaning of the word (OED n.1.a.). Hopkins answers this question by mentioning the Christian view of the earth s sweet being in the beginning, thus referring to the Garden of Eden in Genesis (10 11). As inferred by Hopkins in the first stanza and the Christian tradition which he holds, the Garden was a place of life and flourishing rather than death, and the beginning refers to the creation story involving Adam and Eve. Thus, according to Hopkins, the beauty of spring is identified in the sestet as a strain from the earth s sweet being in the beginning in the Garden of Eden (10 11). Furthermore, the sestet involves a change of word choice and figurative language instead of merely a topic change. After describing where spring s beauty arises, the poet prayerfully addresses Christ and asks him to retrieve this strain of spring s beauty before it cloy[s] / cloud[s]...and [makes] sour with sinning the innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy (10 13). In this address, cloy refers to the potential for spring to disgust the innocence of Adam and Eve, the innocent...girl and boy, with gratification beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Students With Learning Disabilities And Learning Differences Intro Being a teacher, one will encounter many students with learning disabilities or learning differences. These things can be anything between attention deficit disorder to down syndrome. It is the teacher s job to understand what that child is going through in order to ensure that they receive the best available education possible. Now a teacher might say, I am not required to know how to teach special education , which is where most of these students will be placed. But ones with minor learning differences will be seen in everyday classroom environments. Therefore, a teacher should want to educate every student to the best of their ability to ensure that no matter what learning difference a child has that that child can be successful in life. One specific learning difference I am going to talk about today is dyslexia. Many do not know what this learning difference really is or even all of its causes, and symptoms. Many people probably do not know what the child has to go through when getting an RTI or what that even is. They may not take in perspective on what impact that child has on its family. Teachers should know how to give dyslexic children the best education possible, and this starts out by getting with the family and forming and RTI. Then there are many appropriate tools that may be used to ensure that the children can succeed in their education. Description, Causes, and Symptoms What is Dyslexia? The simplest definition that can be given is, a disability in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Short And Long-Term Memory And Memory Short and long term memory The short and long term memory are two memories storages powerhouses within the brain that permit to save information that is retrievable by the individual command. Short term memory is what we use when we try to hold a telephone number in our head just long enough to dial it (Presley McCormick, 2007). Indeed, this short memoryprocess gives the individual the ability to memory information that is relevant to perform a specific task such as calling. On the other side of the spectrum, long term memory provides the individual to accesses large pieces of information that was acquire more than a few minutes ago or even a long time ago it could be years. The short and long term memory sometimes function together and in some occasion function independently. Furthermore, the important pinpoint right here is that in the education context the teacher must be informed and familiar with the short and long term memory concepts to effectively teach students. Moreover, as someone that is entering the education profession these two concepts have really resonated with me extensively. I can t wait to practice with my students memory exercises that demonstrated the mental capacities they have. For the short memory some exercises such as memorizing a phone number, a four digit pass code, and a password can be try in the classroom to asses the individual student ability. On the other hand, for the long term memory in class activities such as reciting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay Comparing The Awakening and Story of an Hour Comparing The Awakening and Story of an Hour The heroine, Mrs. P, has some carries some characteristics parallel to Louise Mallard in Hour. The women of her time are limited by cultural convention. Yet, Mrs. P, (like Louise) begins to experience a new freedom of imagination, a zest for life , in the immediate absence of her husband. She realizes, through interior monologues, that she has been held back, that her station in life cannot and will not afford her the kind of freedom to explore freely and openly the emotions that are as much a part of her as they are not a part of Leonce. Here is a primary irony. Also, the rhetoric Chopin uses is full of contradictions from the beginning. not only that, but there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relatively open and honest (less suppressed)culture of the Creoles is one which catalyzes her human sensibilities. Who could blame her? Especially Madame Ratignolle, and the way Chopin describes her sensuousness and warmth, would be compelling features it seems for anyone to be attracted to and to want, almost unconsciously, to emulate. Second, the attentive nature of Robert LeBrun is so marked and attractive when compared with Leonce s domineering, controlling, even neglectful ways in which he treats (and does not treat) his family, (but with a measure of trying to placate them as the result of his own selfishness at Klein s). When he wins, he forgets all about the candy and peanuts he promised his children. With Edna, he is talkative, but not attentive. Still, though, Edna is culturally in over her head when it comes to the sensual honesty and astonishingly implicit trust of these men to let their wives do what they do at this time in history. Thus far, I see an ostensibly lethal combination of Mme R and Robert working, however innocently in Edna s life. A more obvious trigger for her sensual nature is Mlle Reisz, who upon playing for her at the beginning, affords that pictures be conjured up in Edna s mind as she plays. After the reinforcement of Robert s affections upon her, continuing to impart obsession into her mind, Mlle R s playing hits the very core of her being, and we see that indeed her body and soul ... • 9. Eyewitness Testimony Should Be Used In Court Introduction As time goes on, eyewitness testimony has become more and more of a disputed topic due to many different factors. The first study I was exposed to was in an introductory psychology class which sparked my interest into the topic. For this reason, I chose to look at different demographics such as, gender and major, and see if those factors had any impact on the perception of eyewitness testimony. My main issues remained the same throughout this research project. Research studies in relation to eyewitness testimony have been going on for hundreds of years. A study done in 1999 by Marcus D. Durham and Francis C. Dane at Mercer University, looked at ways to assess prospective jurors knowledge of the factors that may influence eyewitness behavior. Those factors include topics such as race, memory processes, age, and stress. In addition, the researchers compared students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Approach to Case Study A case study is a description of an actual administrative situation involving a decision to be made or a problem to be solved. It can be a real situation that actually happened just as described, or portions have been disguised for reasons of privacy. Most case studies are written in such a way that the reader takes the place of the manager whose responsibility is to make decisions to help solve the problem. In almost all case studies, a decision must be made, although that decision might be to leave the situation as it is and do nothing. Answering A Case Study It helps to have a system when sitting down to answer a case study as the amount of information and issues to be resolved can initially seem quite overwhelming. The ... You are trying to identify who are the relevant stakeholders to the situation, and who will be affected by the decisions to be made. 3.What are the constraints and opportunities implicit to this situation? • 12. The Purpose Of A Case Study Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed systems, which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles and competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid tool to analyse a complex issue. A case studyis defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand complex social and organisational issues. With regard to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations outweigh the weaknesses. In addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what I want to investigate. The findings are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with convergence since the research is derived from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise any findings from this case study. • 13. Evaluation Of A Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement plays a major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In this fourth grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to earn marbles. Each group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher will add a variety of different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions, answering questions, paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other positive behaviors and good choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of tickets that students can earn to use to purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the teacher; sit in the rocking chair during reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I observed the class, I realized this system works really well for this group of students. The teacher would give the class directions. For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The teacher did not have to say anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of marbles, begin walking around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to work. It is any health care delivery system that combines the functions of health insurance and the actual delivery of care, where costs and utilization of services are controlled by methods such as gatekeeping, case management, and utilization review. Different types of managed careplans came into development by three major factors. These factors include choice of providers, different ways of arranging the delivery of services, and payment and risk sharing. Types of managed care organizations include Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) which consist of five common models that differ according to how the HMO is related to the participating physicians, Preferred Provider Organizations... Next, is utilization review. `Its main objective is to review each case and determine the most appropriate level of services, the most appropriate settings in which the services be delivered, the most cost efficient methods for care delivery and the need for planning of subsequent care. Other methods used for utilization and control are choice restriction and practice profiling (Douglas, 2003, p.328). The types of managed care are differentiated by definition, operation, structure, and information needs. `HMOs were the most common type of MCO until commercial insurance companies developed PPOs to compete with HMOs (Douglas, 2003, p.331). `HMOs are business entities that either arrange for or provide health services to an enrolled population after prepayment of a fixed sum of money, called a premium (Peden, 1998, p.78). There are three characteristics that an HMO must have. The first is a health care financing and delivery system that provides services for members in a particular geographic area. Many women work twice as hard and still get paid significantly less than their male co workers. They experience sex typing from a young age being pushed to study more feminine occupations, such as nursing. While on the other hand men are encouraged to seek positions of power and leadership. If a womandecides to choose an occupation that demands the use of intellectual thinking, they are given boundaries to which they are limited. Women are seen as the weaker sex and have been severely over diagnosed with depression, anxiety, or any other type of mental illness. We see this issue addressed in Virginia Woolf s Professions for Women and Susanna Kaysen s memoir Girl, Interrupted . This occurs because of the motor loss in the patient s body from the lack of dopamine being produced in the brain (Ellerston et al., 2016). According to (Argolo et al., 2013), rigidity and brandykinesia formed in the oralpharyngeal muscles, lack of coordination between breathing and swallowing, and the loss or reduction of sensation in the oral cavity and pharynx are all involved in the patients dysphasia. Ellerston et al. (2016) reviewed studies done on Parkinson s patients diagnosed with dysphasia using videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (MBS) study. According to Ellerston et al. Net Present Value(NPV) vs. Payback Period (PBP): Payback period calculates the period in which the initial amount invested in the project is recovered. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such a problem does not exist with NPV. Net Present Value (NPV) vs. Profitability Index (PI) Profitability index is a ratio between the discounted cash inflow to the initial cash outflow. It presents a value which says how many times of the investment is the returns in the form of discounted cash flows. The disadvantage associated with this method again is its relativity. A project can have same profitability index with different investments and vast difference in absolute dollar return. NPV has an upper hand in this case. Conclusion: We have noted that almost all the difficulties are survived by net present value and that is why it is considered to be the best way to analyze, evaluate, and select big investment projects. At the same time, the estimation of cash flows requires carefulness because if the cash flow estimation is wrong, NPV is bound to be misleading. A small problem with NPV is that it also considers the same discounting rate for both cash inflow and outflows. We know that there are differences between borrowing and lending rates. Modified internal rate of return is another method which is little more complex but improved which takes care of the difference between borrowing and lending rates also as it discounts cash inflows at lending rates and cash outflow at borrowing rates. Internal damage to composite materials, from a low speed impact, though it shows no external or surface evidence, could result in delamination between the internal layers, or plies of composite material. It is in these circumstances that structural engineers have concerns regarding complex repairs structural tolerances. Because of the threat of delamination, engineers who design composite structures take special care to make certain that loads placed on the composites are primarily in plane where the fibers are strong and that buckling does not occur. Compounding the difficulties confronting engineers, composites cannot be inspected for weakness or internal damage in the same way that metals can. Delamination and cracks in the composite matrix are usually internal to the composite and will not be visible from the surface. Explicit Phonic Instruction is build from part to whole; children first receive instruction of the letters with associated sounds, and after they learn how to blend sounds into the syllables and into the words. Implicit PhonicsInstructions moves from the whole to the smallest parts: first, students are analyzing words and looking for common phonemes in a group of words. • 37. The Victorian Er Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender... The Victorian Era: Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender Roles In 1868, British author Wilkie Collins wrote what is now famously known as one of the first full length detective stories, The Moonstone. Within this text, he explores and transcends his writing style, as he created an atmosphere full of suspense and gothic tradition by making use of two genres famous in the Victorian Era (Ayton, 2). As Collins managed to challenge the roles of men and women within The Moonstone, he ultimately attempts to reverse genders by creating a story of conflict, where the women are essentially in charge. As many genderstereotypes are expressed within The Moonstone through the different narrators of the novel, almost all of them become discredited as we are introduced to the other characters. By making use of the characters like Betteredge, Lady Verinder, and finally Rachel Verinder, Collins novel proves to break society s barrier of expected roles for men and women within the Victorian Era. During the Victorian period, men and women s roles became more sharply defined than at any time in history. This concept of roles, became extremely significant within Wilkie Collins The Moonstone (1868), as he incorporated the issues seen during that era, with the roles and expectations of the women in his novel. Because many of the women seen throughout Collins novel are more assertive than one would expect from a Victorian novelist, Collins shows women acting forcefully on their own, which ... This year is my junior year in highschool and I am already being pushed to think about my future and what I want my life to be like. A decision of this magnitude is extremely hard and daunting to make. How am I supposed to know what my true vocation is if I m not even eighteen yet? There are a plethora of hobbies I love to do and activities I participate in, but which one is right for me? Which one brings me joy? I started out thinking about what I am good at. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved school. My mother used to say that I had the brain of an elephant because I could always remember details when nobody else could. Having that type brain made it easy to learn and succeed in school. I was never the athletic type. I tried every sport imaginable, but nothing ever stuck with me; I decided that school would be my sport. Every year, I tried my hardest to achieve the highest grades and every year it paid off. When I was ten, I started to get involved with Irish step dancing and I instantly fell in love. Everybody else either did ballet, tap, jazz, modern, or other dances, but nobody did Irish Step; it was my own thing. As the years past, I began to compete and move up in the ranks of competitive dancing. When I reached the championship level, I decided to stop and just dance for my own enjoyment and happiness. • 39. What Is The Theme Of The Pie By Gary Soto At some point in almost everyone s childhood, there is a moment of deliberate wrongdoing, followed by panic and guilt. Perhaps it is standing on the water spout outside the house and neglecting to inform an adult when the pipe breaks and spews water into the backyard. Maybe it is lying to a parent about the whereabouts of a dollar after the ice cream truck goes by. For author Gary Soto, it was stealing a piefrom the neighborhood grocery store. In his autobiography, Soto recounts the story and emotions of his six year old self taking an apple pie off the rack and walking home with it, only to be overwhelmed by a guilt ridden conscience. Throughout the narrative, Soto uses imagery and precise diction to recreate his experiences as a guilty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soto continues to eat, but tears blurred [his] eyes as [he] remembered the grocer s forehead . This time, the mention of tears is not because it was about the best thing [he] had ever tasted but rather because he felt true guilt. He is reminded of the angelic grocer, and even though he is beginning to feel horrible continues to stuff his face with pie. Cross Eyed Johnny comments, your hands are dirty, before [climbing] his roof to watch the other boy eat. This once again brings up the symbolism of dirty hands, as though they are tainted with sin. The symbolism intensifies as Cross Eyed Johnny [jumps] off and [hobbles] away because the fall had hurt him . This represents a fall from grace, for the young Soto has committed perhaps the worst sin of his six year long life. He begins to feel paranoid and sees the pie tin [glaring] at [him] and feeling his face sticky with guilt . The personification of the pie tin shows that the boy feels like he is being watched and judged for his sin, and wet imagery is once again used to describe the stickiness of guilt. We like to believe that everyone is equal, but society doesn t treat everyone as what they were when created, equal. What mattered was neither where the college was nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was for men and the other for women. Woolf was was served one mealfrom the colleges and there were some striking differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and emotional appeal help support her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared to men. In reading both passages, there is a clear difference in her vocabulary for describing the meals. Here, however, I shall take the liberty to defy that convention and to tell you that the lunchon this occasion began with soles, sunk in deep dish, over which the college cook had spread a counterpane of the whitest cream, save that it was branded here and there with brown spots like the spots on the flanks of a doe (Woolf, Passage1, Sentence 4). Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup. There was nothing to stir the fancy in that (Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). Not only was there a change in vocabulary, but there was also a change in the length of her sentences. You might be thinking about the big American dream, which is going to school, studying to become a doctor or anything you want and making millions. When our parents came to America they were thinking about what was best for our future in educationand finance. That is why they came here. So would you think that you or your parents would be devastated to come to realize that the US is 14th in the world when it comes to education? I am not saying that is bad by any means. However, if you are the richest country in the world, that also means you have the most resources so there should be no reason to be 14, you should be 1st, or at least in the top 5. One of the most well educated country on the planet is South Korea. South Korea doesn t spend nearly as much on education as the United States. South Korea spends 11.3 million on education. Reds and oranges are colors that one links with warmth and feeling. The warm colors in the painting represent the love that is present which ultimately connects back to intimacy and companionship. Emotional security takes the longest to develop. It s putting one s full trust into the relationship. A study was done where adults, involved in a romantic relationship, were asked to take a questionnaire. The questionnaire focused on how emotionally secure a partner was in their relationship. They related these findings back to infant mother research that was previously concluded by other researchers. These researchers also blamed the outcome of their experiment, where 56% felt emotionally secure in their relationships, on prior love experiences (Hazan Shaver, 1987, p. 511 515). This study further proves how difficult it is for a couple to reach emotional security, after having immoral past love experiences. While the painting cannot easily express this aspect of happiness, the couple walking arm in arm in an empty park shows the safety they feel with one another. Beyond happiness, as the romantic relationship evolves, and the peak of the happiness fades, trust can start to falter. Secrets form and lies build. These secrets start small, but they can grow. • 46. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Appeal By Stephan H. Browne The rhetorical analysis of the Appeal by Stephan H. Browne gives further insight about perfectibilism in the document. In the third chapter of Rhetoric Public Affairs: Angelina Grimke: Rhetoric, Identity, and the Radical Imagination, Browne contends that Angelina Grimke employed a rhetorical strategy for the reimagining of community and reconceiving of past, to encourage acceptance for her abolitionist vision of the future. In the Appeal, Angelina focused toward her audience of southern Christian women and seeks to use that understanding to connect with them and contend that the abolitionist cause cares for them. She also uses her analysis of biblical matters to reinterpret the meaning of the bible and its significance to these women and their time. The bible is thus contended to be a basis for condemning and opposing slavery, and that by their status, of them as Christian women in the context of Southern plantation society, they should work to oppose it. This is followed by a prescription of action tailored to both the audience s religious tendencies, and to the possible actions they may take in the context of their social status. This portrayal of the Appeal s rhetoric suggests a form of perfectibilism in the interpretation of the past and community basis. Rather than merely calling out problems in the past about how American and particularly southern society has engaged in slavery, it works to change the basis of historical community for her audience.
