Similarities Between New France And Canada
Have you ever thought about how similar and different New France was compared to Canada?
Well, think about all these activities the people in New France had compared to what we do on a
daily basis. For example, farming, hunting and gathering materials. We can do any of these
activities today and we don t do some of them. We farm today. We only hunt for pleasure and not
to gather food because, we have grocery stores. We don t need to gather materials because we have
stores to buy materials.
In New France, you would have to hunt to get your meat. In Canada, you can go to the grocery
store to get meat. To prepare meat in New France, you would salt, smoke, or dry your meat.
These were different methods used to preserve food. In Canada, you can put meat in the
refrigerator or the freezer. In New France, people ate four meals a day compared to Canada today,
where people eat three meals a day. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

President Obama s Speech On Flint s Water Crisis
Hi Professor Cohen and classmates, President Obama s Speech on Flint s Water Crisis About five
months after national news broke about lead contaminated water flowing from the faucets of
homes with a vulnerable population of 99,000, (mostly poor minority residents). And when
President Barack Obama was moved after receiving an invitation from Flint resident, 8 year old,
Amariyanna Copeny Mari aka Miss Little . On May 04,2016, President Obama boarded Air Force
One and land at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan. He then made his way to Flint
Northwestern High School, where he addressed 1,000 eager residents. In his speech, the President
said the following: пѓ I would have been happy to see Mari in Washington (but) a young girl

Flint s recovery is everyone s responsibility and I m going to make sure that responsibility is

hurt the people of Flint. I ve sent Flint the best resources our federal government has...the agencies
that specialize in health and housing, and those that support small businesses and our kids
education, those responsible for the food that our children and of course, the water we drink.

Leadership Behavior, Team Development And Group Cohesion...
The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to
group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a
mediator. Coaching elements identified as being positively related to group cohesion include: the
quality of training and instruction, social support, positive feedback and leadershipstyle (Yarmey,
2013). In particular, a democratic leadership style has been found to promote the development of
team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Empirical evidence suggests that group s progress through a set of
well defined stages before becoming a cohesive team. According to Tuckman s model of team
development these stages include: forming, storming, norming and performing.... Show more

The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to
group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a mediator.
Leadership Factors
Across many sports, research has provided empirical support for the connection between coaching
elements and team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Specific coaching elements identified as being
positively related to group cohesion include: the quality of training and instruction, social support,
positive feedback and leadership style (Yarmey, 2013). In the YouTube clip, Al Pacino s Any Given
Sunday Speech , the coach appears to demonstrate effective leadership skills promoting the team s
cohesion. In his motivational speech, a degree of social support is provided through the fostering of
a positive atmosphere. In addition, he provides instructions for the team s success by emphasizing
that the group must work as a team in order to be successful in their upcoming game. Unfortunately,
this clip offers little insight into the coach s decision styles (an important leadership factor related
to group cohesion). Two opposing coaching leadership styles have been found to influence team
cohesion: the autocratic style and the democratic style. While the autocratic style involves
independent decision making by the coach, the democratic style stresses joint decision making and

Water In Annie John
Water stands as a symbol representing a source of cleansing, purity, and life. Water usually
associates itself with the image of restoration. This means that water can help restore the
imperfections within a person. In the novel Annie John written by Jamaica Kincaid, water shows
how the relationship between Annie and her mother grows and changes throughout the novel. The
rainstorm, ocean saltwater, and bath water show some examples of the changes Annie and her
mother experience within the novel. The rainstorm represents the change that went happened on the
island of Antigua, and inside of Annie. For example, Annie stated that for over a year, no rain fell

Annie depends on her mother to show her how to live life. An example of Annie s dependency
on her mother shows when she states the only way I could reach the water was to climb and get
on my mother s back (42). Annie cannot swim, but shows that she has a strong feeling of trusts
towards her mom because she ultimately sets her own life into her hands. Annie swam with her
mom because it helped strengthen her kidneys, but it also brought Annie and her mother closer
together. For example, Annie says I could not wipe that feeling out of my mind, the feeling that
I had when I couldn t find her (45). Annie grows up, and the older she gets, the more the bond
between her and her mom grow apart. Annie will never forget that day in the ocean when she
could not find her mother. That sense of loneliness has become the way Annie now feels when
around her mother. Annie figures out that she can do things independently now and does not
need her mother s help. Annie states that I could not bear to have everyone else see how in
disfavor I was towards my mother (46). The feeling Annie has now with her mother refers back to
the feeling she had back in the ocean. She feels as if her relationship has grown deeper and darker,
and that it will keep spreading apart with no end in sight, just like the

The police in Rio de Janeiro regularly takes bribes from drug lords, abuses favela citizens, and
sells back drugs and firearms to the drug trade. Because of this, the favela becomes scared of the
police, which can make some places dangerous to be at which can make it easier for people to be
killed. The event of the tragic murder in the favela Vigario Geral was a horrid and uneducated
idea from the military police as revenge for the gunning down of four policemen. In this senseless
murder of innocent civilians, 21 people were killed in their homes. Police entered random houses,

Sears, Roebuck, And Company
Introduction
Sears is a retail chain that offers variety of products and services to customers. These products
include large household appliances, clothing, house wares, automotive services, yard equipment
including sheds, sporting goods, jewelry, and tools. All of these products are competitively priced
and they offer an in house credit card for major purchases.
History
In 1886, a station agent in Redwood, Minnesota begins to sell watches to supplement his income.
His name was Richard Sears. As the demand for his watches increased he moved and established
an office in Chicago and hired a watchmaker by the name of Alvah Roebuck. In 1888, they
launched the first Sears Catalog which featured only watches and jewelry. In 1883, Sears,
Roebuck and Co became the official corporate name. By 1896 they had expanded their business

My Name In My Family
Often names are chosen for a variety of different reasons; maybe the parents just liked it, it might
be a name that s in the family for generations, or maybe it s chosen to pay homage to someone
that was lost. The story of how my name, Jessica Lorraine , came to about began many years
before my birth. There are countless reasons my parents chose my first and middle name, but the
biggest decision they had to make was choosing my first name. Through the years before my birth a
tragedy struck my family, and it brought great heartache to many. Although this tragedy brought
great sorrow to the members of my family, my parents were able to take this pain and form it into
a base for the name of their next child. A few years before my birth, in 1998, the death of my uncle
Jason Crowe struck my mothers side of the family. His unexpected death affected the whole
family; he had a large influence on everyone he met and had close relationships with all four of
his siblings, including my mother Lorraine. Since this greatly affected my mother, she wanted to
remember him in a special way. What other way to honor someone s life than naming one of your
children after them. I wanted to have my second child s name start with a J, just like Jason s. My
mother thought and then told her idea to the rest of her family and my father, Andy.
To begin the search, my parents rummaged through different baby books trying to find the perfect
name for their next child. They went through a variety of

How Wrestling Has Changed My Life
Wrestling has and always will be a big part of my life, that s not to say I have had a pleasant nor
a fair time on the wrestling mat, but I guess life s not fair. I have always enjoyed wrestling from
the first time I stepped foot on a mat in kindergarten in my singlet that was 2 sizes too big, from
the last time leaving the mat as a junior in high school limping off the mat in some of the worst pain
I ve ever felt in my life. It s been in my family for as long as I can remember. My uncle has not
missed being mat side, yelling for his favorite wrestlers at the MinnesotaState Wrestling
Tournament in 20 years. My cousin wrestled for Iowa State University before coming back to
his hometown in Mankato and suffering a career ending injury as well. My time on the mat was
not always that of heart break. Going through elementary I never had a losing season, let alone a
season where I lost more than five matches. In fifth and sixth grade I took place in NYWA and
Gopher State. Gopher State is a tournament for the top wrestlers in Minnesota and all the states
surrounding it. That was some of the hardest wrestling I have ever encountered. I placed in the
top six at NYWA and not placing at Gopher state unfortunately. The summer before my junior
year I went to multiple wrestling camps costing thousands of dollars and lasting weeks in time.
And when it came time to vote for captains I just knew I was going to get it. The night before the
coach told us who was going to be awarded captain

Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay
Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES
Abstract:
It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level
exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous
consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most
important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological
system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of
use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were
analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of
heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals
were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES).
As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration
0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03 0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged
between 0.04 1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026 0.091ppm.
1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of
consumers on a daily basis. These products are directly applied to human skin and mainly produce
local exposure to certain ingredients. Numerous consumer products like cosmetics and toiletries
have been reported as a source of heavy metal

Drug History And Policy Changes
Drug History and Policy Changes
There is a debate in the American government system on how to handle the use of drug and
alcohol. In the 1960s drugs were uprising along with youth rebellion and in 1971 Nixon declared
a War on Drugs (Citation a brief). This name is not to be confused with the band War on Drugs,
but the term is still popularly used to describe the policies that Government officials are making
regarding drugs and alcohol. This debate got reheated when Colorado legalized weed for medical
and recreational use, followed by several other states. There has slowly been a shift in mindset
from, alcoholics are drug addicts are all criminals and we (the law) should throw them in jail to
addiction is a disease. Even the way that addicts/alcoholics are treated has changed to treatment
centers with specialist versus throwing them in the hospital to detox and hoping for a change.
Policies that are shifting the penalty from incarceration to treatment reflect these changes and help
the individual suffering from the disease to get back on their feet. The war on drugs rings on, but
changes are being made.
War on Drugs
As I said early, President Nixon issued the War on Drugs. He started by placing marijuana in the
highest restrictive category of drugs, Schedule One, and ignored later attends to decriminalize
drugs. However, starting in 1973, eleven states decriminalized marijuana usage. Ronald Reagan
picked up where Nixon left off. Reagan s wife also started her own

The Role Of The Accounting Profession And The Value Of The...
Accountants play an important role in the world of business. The article, The Future of the
Accounting Profession and the Value of the CPA. , illustrates the importance of the accounting
profession and the challenges that accountants face. With over ten years of experience working in
the areas of finance and office management, I have personal experience with various influences in
the accounting world that were discussed in the article. This includes topics such as technological
advancements, the merits of networking mentorship, the value of obtaining a CPA designation,
accountancy education, and work life balance (WLB). The accounting profession continues to
evolve alongside social trends and corporate developments, such as corporate social responsibility
(CSR) and crowdfunding. In my previous position as Director of Finance Administration at
Disability Rights International (DRI), I have traveled to many countries and conducted several
international financial trainings and workshops to encourage education, transparency, and self
sustainability to local partners and field offices. I have seen first hand how financial reporting
and fiduciary responsibility is a powerful tool, which one can wield to impact and empower to
promote social change. However the reverse is also true: social changes also affect financial
reporting. After reading the Jones Jonas (2011) article, Corporate Social Responsibility Reporting:

I Am Codell Craddock For The Respondent Essay
I am Codell Craddock for the Respondent. My colleague, Fiona O Brien has effectively
demonstrated why the Hybrid Rights is merely dicta on the part of Justice Scalia and I will
immediately follow by defining rational basis review. Rational Basis is the standard of review used
by courts when reviewing matters pertaining to the fifth and fourteenth amendment. If a law proves
to be rationally related to a legitimate government interest, then it passes rational basis review. In
addition, it is not the duty of the court to review the intent of the law, but merely to decide if their
is a relationship between the law and a government interest. This rationale was upheld in Swanson
Swanson v. Gurthrie Independent school district when the supreme court ruled that the school
district s rule to require all students to attend public school full time is a general law that tailors
to a governmental interest. In our case, the candy ban was instituted to combat childhood obesity
which is a governmental interest. Because as we saw in Barsky vs Board of Regents, the public
health of a community is a vital part of a state s police power. It is clear from this, that although the
Candy Ban incidentally affects the practice of a religion, there is a clear relationship between the
candy ban and public health, a legitimate government interest. Therefore, it passes the rational basis
test. Moving on let s discuss, for a moment, that the hybrid rights claim is viable. A claim that may
be used when a

The Broken Window Theory Of Crime
Criminologist James Q. Wilson and George Kelling developed the Broken Window theory .
According to their theory they believed that crime is the inevitable result of disorder (Gladwell
155). The broken window theory is known as a disorder and as chaos, therefore, crimes become
an issue due to the fact that the impression of no one being in charge causes crimes to happen
one after another and worsening along the way. An example often used is a broken window,
which leads to another broken window, to graffiti, to loitering, etc. The disorder, the chaos and
the abandonment of something or a place causes crimes to be followed one after another crime
is contagious (Gladwell 155). According to the broken window theory, broken windows should
not be left alone. They should be fixed in order for crime to decrease; therefor broken windows
should not be tolerated due to the fact that it may cause an increase of crimes as well. The rise of
a question then forms from this theory, because many departments use the broken window
theory. Officers are known for keeping the law and keeping order. The officers are given a duty
of addressing minor life threatening offenses and social disorder, which prevents major crimes to
happen. They are to disapprove and stop crimes. But is the broken window theory broken itself
when it comes to law enforcement. Could they be doing more wrong than actually doing well?
Because officers are not only stopping crimes, but they are causing more trouble

The Constitution and the Separation of Powers
One of the earliest ideas of separating powers came in the 1600 s and is evidenced by the idea
that the parliament then is what we would consider today as being the Legislative branch of
government since it was in charge of taxes. To be a king in those days would be similar to the
Executive branch, as the king conducted wars and enforced the law. However, credit is often given
to Baron de Montesquieu, a French philosopher. According to the authors of our text book, John
Locke initially desired there to be to branches of government, a legislative branch to create the laws
and an executivebranch to enforce the laws. Montesquieu then supplemented Locke s idea by
adding a judiciarybranch to resolve conflicts that the two branches by incur.
When written, the Constitution laid out the basis for the separation of powers. In order to prevent
any one branch of having complete control and power, each of the branches of government has
certain powers and responsibilities in order to keep each other from exerting too much power. This
is known as checks and balances.
The first branch of government we will be looking at is the legislative branch. The legislative
branch of government is responsible for making and passing laws and is more commonly known
as Congress. Keeping in the nature of checks and balances, Congress has been granted certain
powers to make sure that the judiciary branch and the executive branches do not abuse their power.
One of the more robust powers that Congress

Description Of A Flight Recorder
1. Introduction It is very difficult, when an accident occurs during a flight to determine
precisely what happened for several reasons: Most of the time, during a flight, an aircraft is
not in an environment where people cannot testimony what they saw (over water, high in the
sky ...) When the aircraft crashes, it is often in an area difficult to access (open sea, on a
mountain, ...) When the aircraft is ready to be examined, after being recovered from a
difficult crash area or after a potential fire has been extinguished, the pieces are frequently
severely damaged. To be able to retrace what happened during the last moments of the flight of
the aircraft, before an accident or incident, a flight recorder has been developed. The information
collected by this flight recorder can help the investigation teams to understand what happened
even when the aircraft is badly damaged or even impossible to use to find answers. But
developing a flight recorder is not simple precisely because it has to withstand a severe accident.
When an extreme fire starts after a crash for example, the flight recorder has to stay in good
conditions until it is recovered by someone on the crash site. Therefore, regulations, certifications
and standards have been made to ensure that this element in the aircraft has all the required
properties. Nowadays, the flight recorder has an increasing role to play in investigations of
accidents because of the number of passengers that can be carried on a

A Trot of Negligence
A tort of negligence is a breach of duty or failure of one party to commit to the standard of care
required by law, resulting in damage to the party whom the duty was owed. Annie would have
an action in negligence claiming compensatory damages for personal injury suffered as a result
of Brett s negligence. Annie s personal harm, involving a fractured back was directly related to
Brett s careless behavior of not cleaning up the alleged mess. The plaintiff Annie, has the burden
of proof, and would need to prove that the defendant, Brett owed her a duty of care, and was carless
in failing to do as a reasonable personwould have done, resulting in the damages suffered by the
plaintiff. The elements must be proven on the balance of probabilities.
Duty of Care
According to the case Donoghue v. Stevenson [1932] AC 562 the duty of care states that the
reasonable foreseeability test is sufficient to establish a duty of care where the damage is
physical and careless manner is an act or an omission. There is a high risk of serious physical
damage from the slippery mess not being cleaned up. Brett was the manager at the Tavern and
owed every party goer, including Annie a duty of care. The physical damage that the plaintiff
suffered was a fractured back. This test must be executed to determine whether a duty of care
exists and looks to the foreseeability of a reasonable person in the position of the defendant.

pollution in London. The primary research that was carried out for this report was done through
personal correspondence by interviewing a specialist who works in reducing the environmental
impact of Nomura International Plc, a Japanese investment bank, pictures of some of the initiatives
used to reduce environmental impact were also gathered. During the time gathering the primary
research, the nature of the business environment was taken into account, and any sensitive
information heard while at the building was not acknowledged.
3.0 Findings
3.1 London air quality historically
Air pollution is not a new problem in London, it has been prevalent for hundreds of years. Air
pollution was especially bad during the industrial revolution of the UK during the 18th and 19th
centuries . The industrial revolution being based on the use of coal, with industries often located in

Erosion is unfortuanately present at Cronulla beach, the local government have tried to tackle this
problem with solution such as dune stabilization and rip rap walls. Rip rap walls are when larged
rocks are piled in a certain angle to catch drifting sand and protect the beaches from harsher waves
and to protect buildings from high tides. There are also many programs which help to ensure the
stabilization of dunes, these include the planting of new vegetation to combat erosion, fencing
and designated walkways to prevent human interference. The main reason of dune stabilization
is to slow down the speed of erosion. In 1974 the Cronulla beaches were at an all time low and
was in a critical state, from this the University of New South Wales designed a new wall, a wall
which is different from the conventional walls used to prevent erosion and transportation with

Government s Military Interventions Toward Native Peoples...
The primary memory of United States westward expansion in the 19th century is one of triumph
because it doubled the nation s territory and increased trade. However, the Old West during the 19th
century was characterized by America s brutal obsession with expansion and the concept of
American exceptionalism. In Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, Judge Holden celebrates the
human nature of violenceand its necessity to find order in chaos. Blinded by the greed for control,
he refuses to acknowledge the norms of civilized behavior. Similarly, under the principles of the
Manifest Destiny, the U.S. government s military interventions toward Native peoples overlooked
violence. These parallels reflect the exceptionalist idea that one is inherently more virtuous and
entitled to higher purposes. Historians and primary accounts confirm the parallelism that McCarthy
draws between violence and American history. Therefore, preconceived notions about the positive
aspects of American expansionism are overturned by the significance of its underlying violence.
Attempts to justify westward expansion with Manifest Destiny advocated the pursuit of historical
erasure. The American westward movement rooted from the brutality of American exceptionalism
and destructive manipulation of history. A New York Daily Times article in 1851 romanticized
Manifest Destiny as a national progress where the nation thirsts for freedom in the furthest ends of
the earth ( Annexation in the Pacific ). The

(vocals, synthesizer, guitar, piano), Greg Waters (guitar, saxophones, synthesizer) and Charlie
Moore (vocals, bass, synthesizer, organ) experiment with synths, sweet melodies, and a distinct
tone that has the ability to immortalize feelings flawlessly. Night Owl offers different moods and
feelings throughout the album, orchestrated by playing with a simple recipe of sounds, presented
in a new light each time, such as the first two tracks. Antique Furniture sets the tone and has the
right amount of horns, and funky attitude, that is softened with a persistent synth. One of the
greatest intros on the album would be for the track, Mind s Eyes. This track is an instant mood
lifter, that gets you moving with a catchy guitar riff, and a solid bass line that gives the song
support. Based on the guitar riff, the ideal direction of the song would be of a higher, and lighter

Without Connection to Others There Is No Me Member of...
Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I ve ever known. Chuck Palahniuk
s quote from his book Invisible Monsters highlights that a human being is the collection of
experiences, influences and interactions of others within our lives. Palahniuk s quote express that
from the moment we are brought into the world our personality is constantly shaped and refined
through the connection of others in a predisposed attempt to gain acceptance. Being devoid of this
acceptance can leave us ostracized from society, which can leave us psychologically impaired to
identify who we truly are. The strong bonding with family defines who we are through our early

This then changes as they transition into school and realize that fire has an element of danger too
it. Society then influences and refines our ideas in what we want to achieve and we then follow the
most acceptable occupation that we believe expresses our individualism. Although identity is shaped
by commitments and relationships within the confines of societies pressures, a select few stray off
the path of connecting with others which either leads to loneliness of second guessing of one s true
identities and connections.
The majorities of humans are shaped for the better through early life and are therefore refined
through society to find a place within the community. However there are cases where the early
life influences are absent and aren t able to give the crucial acceptance from an early age. This
leads to abandonment issues that make it exceedingly difficult to find a place within society. In
Louis Nowra s Member of the wedding we are shown a prominent example of the detrimental
effects of not being accepted. The protagonist Frankie had a mother that passed away and has a
workaholic father who spends little to no time with at home leaving her with no sense of
acceptance and struggling in finding who she is. She doesn t connect with the world outside and
due to her inner conflict she creates a new me in attempt to connect . F. Jasmine, her new persona,

Essay Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Anterior Cruciate Ligament
With an ever increasing number of people becoming involved with athletic activities, there is an
increasing number of injuries occurring which can be devastating for the individual. Most of the
injuries that affect athletes occur in one of four structures in the human body: bones, muscles,
tendons, or ligaments. Because ligaments attach bone to bone and play a major part in providing
stability for joints, the major stabilizing ligament in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL),
assists in performing everyday actions of the human body including sitting, standing, walking,
running, dancing, and participating in other sports. The injury that specifically affects this ligament
is very serious and always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This short and round ligament, like all other ligaments, prevents slippage within the joint and allows
the joint to properly pivot when performing an action (Duff 300). Without this particular ligament,
the knees would be fragile and more susceptible to injury. Therefore, it would be impossible to do
the simplest movements that are done by humans everyday, like walking and even sitting. This is
one reason why many athletes should be aware of the physical indications that arise if they have
torn their ACL while participating in athletic activities.
In many cases, the symptoms that the patient feels after the trauma has occurred can help the
doctor make his or her diagnosis. Many times a doctor will ask the patient to recall what
happened after the injury was sustained. Usually with an ACL injury, the patient will describe a
so called pop or snap that he or she heard during the impact. Pain, which is not terribly
excruciating, will immediately follow, and if the individual tries to stand, he or she will be faced
with an overwhelming feeling of instability, the leg will buckle under, and the individual will
ultimately fall down onto the ground. Although the patient is experiencing pain, he or she cannot
point out exactly where the injury has occurred. Garrick states, some people say that their knee
shifts in position which it actually does (118). Other symptoms that may arise are stiffness and
swelling which may continue for a long

Essay on Good vs. Evil in Steinbeck s East of Eden
A theme is a unifying or dominant idea in a literary work. Steinbeck described the competition of
good versus evil as the story of mankind itself. He believes that every generation to come since
Adam and Eve will now be immersed with the struggle of good and evil due to Eve s curiosity that
led to sin, eventually banning both her and Adam from the Garden of Eden. In East of Eden,
Steinbeck makes the contest of good versus evil apparent through his contrasting description of the
setting, the characters opposing personalities, and society s changing morals. To show that man is
surrounded by good and evilno matter where they are, Steinbeck describes the setting in a
contrasting way to represent the good side and the bad side of nature. He... Show more content on

In describing the land, Steinbeck is showing humanity is continuously immersed in a struggle of
good versus evil; he suggests the way in which this sense of opposed absolutes rises from deep
within man, representing something profound and inevitable in human consciousness (Owens).
The main way in which Steinbeck shows the theme of good versus evil is the character s
divergent personalities. The main good character of the novel is Samuel Hamilton, a poor
farmer who raised nine children on little to no income. Despite the fact that his customers do not
pay him money for his labor blacksmithing, well digging he is still gracious and kind to everyone
he meets. He sees through Cathy s façade to the true core of her evilness. Cathy Ames is the
evil character who has no conscious as she uses Adam Trask (protagonist) to move to Salinas
after sleeping with his brother, trying to abort her babies, shooting Adam in the shoulder and
leaving him alone with their twin sons, and secretly killing a brothel owner so she can take
control. She is described as being as close to pure evil as one is likely to get this side of hell
(Aubrey). Adam is always struggling between these two characters in the novel, representing his
personal struggle with good versus evil. He is enamored with Cathy, or who he thinks Cathy is,
and is left in an extreme state of depression upon

Is Lying Justified Research Paper
Lying: Is it Justified?
People are often faced with the decision of whether or not they should speak honestly to their
friends. To many people, there are certain types of lies. But to others, all lies are the same,
whether they are bad or good. About 65% of Americans think that lying is okay when saving
someone s life (Article #1). However, I believe lying can be justified when you are protecting
someone s feelings or life. Firstly, I have lied before, I am a teenager, after all, but it s only to
help someone, never to hurt them. From personal experience, I remember someone asked me if
their drawing looked good or not. Now, I don t want to hurt their feelings, by saying something
mean by saying, No, I don t like it. That would be a bit harsh. So, of course, I lied with something
nice like, Yeah, it looks good. Even though I felt guilty afterwards, I was hoping my opinion would
encourage them to work harder, and they ll continue being my friend.
Besides that, the other reason lying is justified is from the article The U.S. Political Campaign:

Power System Essay
The Distributed is electrical power generation in small scale (usually 1MW to 50MW) near the
load centre using either conventional techniques such as Diesel generators and micro turbines or
using non conventional techniques such as Photo Voltaic, wind turbines and small hydro power.
This modern concept of power system is very advantageous as it reduces the load on the grid,
consumers get a reliable power of better quality, and consumers can supply surplus power to the
grid and earn a considerable profit. Thus, adopting this modern concept of power system is not
only beneficial for consumers but also to the utilities. Figure 1.2 Modern Concept of Power System

Response To Emperor Worship
Emperor Worship Response
Emperor worship began as early as the time of Egyptian Pharaohs like that of King Horus, the
divine ruler over the whole Egypt (Dollinger, 2017, p. 1). Tracing emperor worship from the
Pharaohs and the Ptolemies, Sparta, and Alexander the Great provided evidence of the enormous
influence it had on the Roman emperors. When Rome conquered the East, the same divine
honors were transferred to the Roman proconsuls (Burton, 1912, p. 80). Acceptance of the
imperial cult by Roman rulers in Asia Minor and Greece was far reaching and attributed to
Alexander the Great s legacy. However, he was not regarded as a god. It was Antiochus IV who
accepted the honor of being recognized as a divine king. Afterward, a long line ... Show more

Herod the Great that emperor worship began in Palestine. Herod the Great thought he should be
worshiped as others esteemed as deities. He devised a plan to find baby Jesus and have Him
killed so that he would continue to be recognized as the King of the Jews. However, it was not
God s plan, and Herod died without knowing the whereabouts of baby Jesus. The imperial cult
reached its peak of popularity in the 2nd century and in the 4th century began to lose its religious
relevance. The decline of imperial cult worship was attributed to the rise of Christianity. As
Christianity became the formal worship, emperor worship died. Certain customs that came about
during the emperor worship era, such as kneeling before the Emperor or his statue, was still
practiced. In the provinces, priests of emperor worship still functioned but their function became
more political than religious. Hostility remained between the Jews and Christians toward the
Roman emperors. The Roman emperor, Caligula, demanded his statue be set up in synagogues
and in the temple of Jerusalem. The Jews were in an uproar and made many attempts to defy the
order, but before Caligula could totally enforce his order, he died. After his death, there were no

Types Of Cell Surface Receptors And The Mitogen Activated...
Introduction
Cell surface receptors are integral membrane proteins that play a major role in signal transduction,
allowing the function of Neurons, muscles and sensory organs to occur. Their basic function is to
carry out the process of signal transduction by binding to an extracellular signalling molecule. Cell
surface receptors regulate gene transcription, ion flux in the neurons and growth factors. This
regulation allows the human body to function with little error. They detect the smallest of changes
and respond with a cascade of signalling events appropriately. I am going to describe the four main
types of cell surface receptors and the Mitogen activated protein cascade in receptor tyrosine
kinases.

GPCRs consist of alpha helical segments separated by these intracellular and extracellular loops
(Figure 1) Figure 1 Structure of G protein coupled receptor, showing alpha helical proteins attached
to the three subunits of the G protein.
GPCRs are associated with a G protein, which is heterotrimeric i.e. they consist of three different
subunits: an alpha subunit, a beta subunit, and a gamma subunit (Figure 1). (Scitable by nature) G
proteins are specialized proteins with the ability to catalyse the exchange of guanosine triphosphate
(GTP) and guanosine diphosphate (GDP). (Scitable by nature)
The G protein receptor is coupled to a trimeric G protein and controls the effector protein. The
receptors activate cytosolic or nuclear transcription via several pathways. They are involved in
signal transduction pathways such as MAP kinase pathway. (Lodish et al.).
When a signalling molecule such as Epinephrine, serotine and adenosine is released and binds to
the extracellular receptor site of the GPCR, the G protein changes conformation and GTP replaces
the GDP on the alpha subunit of the G protein (Figure 2). This activated alpha subunit then parts
from the beta and gamma subunits. The alpha subunit becomes inactive when the ligand leaves the
receptor site and the receptors own phosphorylase activity removes a phosphate from the GTP
molecule, therefore leaving GDP bound to the alpha subunit and the reformation of the 3 subunits.

Cost Saver / low investment
The authors found in their study that the main advantage of the using social networking is cost
reduction. Every organisation wants to cut their cost to increase the profit and they opt for the

Sociology Of Violence
Aggression and war typically are not seen in various forms. One could argue that war is not
always where violent acts are seen, in the sense of cold wars, so it is can also be said to be a stage
for aggressive, rather than violent, acts. However, violence has multiple variations including:
mental violence, symbolic violence, and lastly as studied, political violence, that cultural
anthropologists have significantly improved the understanding of. Before delving into the different
categories of violence, it is important to understand that the uses of violence also vary. When
examining violence, it is crucial to discern the action from the perspective of the perpetrator.
(Hansen, 367) As seen in Riches dynamic triangle of violence, those who... Show more content on

Yet, violence does not need to be a physical act, it can also be mental or symbolic. This is
someone s ability to maintain a permanent hold on another person based on economic or
practical commitments. (Hansen, 369) Many scholars will find this does not classify being
labeled as violence. However, symbolic violence is something that is consistently seen in states.
Symbolic violence is an important tool commonly used by states in the ordering of relationships
of superiors and inferiors. States are able to justify their infliction of terror by saying their own
actions are just a reaction to the symbolic violence that is implicit in opposition. (Nagengast, 111)
This is where we begin to see the topic of political violence finally discussed. First and foremost, it
is important to clarify that political violence may or may not be direct violence. (Nagengast, 114) A
state may take actions such as limiting food sent to poorer people, hurting their chances of survival
without actually physically hurting them. State violence can be referred to by using the term terror.
Terror is used by the states in order to maintain the status

Questions On The Value Of Value
I started exchanging on the February 12, 2015 by purchasing shares in 3 different organizations.
The names of the organizations and the quantity of shares purchased are as per the following:
Pieces of fruit (AAPL) 10 shares @ $483.58 every offer
Cisco Systems (CSCO) 50 shares @$23.01 every offer, and
Micron Technologies (MU) 100shares @ $17.94 every offer.
The reasons these shares were purchased was that they were the top gainers for the day. Taking
after 2 weeks, the estimation of my endeavor rose to $100,101.78. The MU stocks started going
down, i.e. there was a drop in the expense of offer from $17.94 to 17.04. So I sold the shares.
After the class address on February 20, 2015 when we examined utilizing the stock screener, I chose

(FUEL) stocks for $62.44, and Pixel work (PXLW) for $4.87. The reasons I sold these shares were
on the grounds that the costs were falling. How about we take that of AFOP for instance:
purchased the shares @$20.86 for 250 shares for a sum of $5215 barring the commission. After
2 days, the value declined to $18.91, which if reproduced by 250 will square with $4727.5, issuing
me a loss of $487.5 which is a 10.3% misfortune in only 2 days. The same applies to the next 2
organizations.
In the wake of offering the 3 organizations stocks, I chose to purchase the shares of the 3 best
gainers of the day. They incorporate the accompanying: Alliance Asset Management (AAMC)
10 shares@600.00 every offer; Direxion Daily Gold Miners Bull (NUGT) 80 shares@53.43 every

screener. These are Edgen Group Inc (EDG) 400 shares@$11.99 and Kandi Technologies Group
(KNDI) 500 shares @$7.10 every offer. The reasons I sold them were the same as others they were

Lovely English in The Red Badge of Courage by Henry Flemming
So it came to pass that as he trudged from the place of blood and wrath his soul changed (Crane
139). The Red Badge of Courage is a great American classic, and this wonderful quote sums up
the entire novel from start to finish. The novel is a novel about a solider in the civil war who deals
with the difficulties of being in war. The novelfollows and captures his journey using many literary
elements. Crane s use of style, plot, setting, and characters help enhance the story. The use of these
literary elements helps enhance the novel and help readers understand the struggles of a solider
during the civil war. The first important element in The Red Badge of Couragethat helps convey the
theme of the novel is style. Early on in the novel, Henry Fleming thinks to himself about the
upcoming battle. The other commented He felt alone in space when his injured comrade had
disappeared (Crane 18). This example shows that even though the narrator is not Henry, the third
person narrator knows the thoughts of Henry. Knowing the thoughts of Henry is major in the plot
and the characterization of the story. Henry s thoughts not only drive his own actions, but the
thoughts of the reader. Reader s get into the story because they know the internal conflicts of
Henry. Another part of style that really enhances Crane s writing is the use of vivid imagery. One
does not have to go very far the in the story to find an example of imagery in the novel. In the first
paragraph, it talks about

Warrantless Searches
How Do We Justify Warrantless Searches?
1)Law enforcement officers can conduct warrantless searches for a variety of reasons. Some of
the benefits are not having to wait for a judge of magistrate to sign off on it. If you can obtain
consent from an individual it must be voluntary and stay within its scope, as well as the person
giving consent must have the authority to do so. The search incident to lawful arrest exception is
used every time an officer makes an arrest, this is to ensure their safety, prevent escape, and
prevent destruction of evidence. This could be a body search, or a search within the area within a
person s immediate control. Police may use warrantless searches when exigent circumstances
arise, such as when a warrant may be impractical, useless, dangerous, or unnecessary. These
include danger of physical harm to officer or destruction of evidence, searches in hot pursuit of
dangerous suspects, danger to a third person, and driving while intoxicated. Police can also use the
special needs beyond law enforcement exception for public school searches, testing students for
drugs, airport searches and searches of probationers and parolees.
2)To balance an individual s rights against the 4th amendment, as well as protect the interests of
Law Enforcement there are a few things we need to do. The officer needs ... Show more content on

When we think about rights, we also must think about the safety of the officer and everyone else
around at the time. If a person is a suspect in a serious crime such as murder, then I don t feel that
individual s rights should outweigh the rights of the officer. I believe in most cases we must think
about individual s rights per the Constitution, which protects individuals from certain things like
illegal searches, but at the same time the officers who are dealing with these individuals concerns
are valid as well especially in an

In perspective of what we got some answers concerning mother s tension, we can see how this

perspective since she is centered around, children get on this tension quickly, which impacts their

lessened measure of family time. Despite how awesome a mother is at modifying her home life and

Comparing Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The...
Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The Signalman
For this assignment I will be looking at two short narratives. One was written by Bradbury, in the
mid twentieth century , The Foghorn and the other was written by Dickens, The Signalman over
one hundred years before. Both are based on supernatural themes and ideas.
It is obvious that Dickens tale was written in the mid nineteenth century because his style of
writing is very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. In his story he tells
us about objects which no longer have a place in modern society ,such as the telegraph and the
steam train . Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at Dickens script to identify how he

The narrator is obviously posed the same question and comments: There was something remarkable
about his manner .
The narrator wonders why the Signalman does not answer. So, right from the beginning the
audience has the perception that the Signalman is slightly mysterious and strange.
The opening to The Fog Horn is quite similar. From the outset the light house in the story is
established as a desolated, mysterious place, cold, dark and dismal, as described when the narrator
says :
Out there in the cold water we waited every night for the coming of the fog .
This immediately creates a cold dark atmosphere and prepares the reader for what is come.
Straight away McDunn and the narrator are established as two isolated people, as described when
the narrator says :
Feeling like two birds in the grey sky, McDunn and I sent the light ,
Also when McDunn says: It s a lonely life .
All of this imagery and description creates a powerful impression of how bleak and lonely the
lighthouse is.
The narrator in The Signalman is a mysterious man, like the signal man himself. He does not give a
lot of information about himself, not even his name. He says that he is staying in a inn:
I am currently staying in a small inn in the village near by
However he does not give

HRIS Implementation Implications GenRay 10/01/2014 The steps designated in the Work
Breakdown structure were given in five different steps. First, assessing the hardware needs of
the new HRIS software. Second, obtaining the required hardware and installing the new software
onto it. Third, moving all employee data and records from the old HR databases to the new, more
robust HRIS system. Fourth and fifth are very similar, training for both Managers and employees
in the two new systems of records, HRIS and payroll. When assessing the hardware needs of the
new HRIS software Kendall had to pay close attention to the required specifications. This may have

With the new HRIS system now installed and accessible Kendall must now transfer all existing
employee data from old systems to the new. This will require one, and possibly multiple,
database transfers from the older systems. A database script will make this data transfer the most
efficient, and Kendall will have the option to complete this himself, or use the resources made
available by the HRIS system vendor for assistance. Once all employee data has been transferred
to the new HRIS database, it s integrity must be verified by running a number of system scans,
checking for discrepancies and possible data corruption. Once the new database has been tested
and verified Kendall would inform the project manager the next phase is ready to begin. Human
Resource managers, and other key personnel, now have full access to the HRIS system. They will
spend a quick week in their own training, acclimating themselves with the quirks of the system and
becoming comfortable with common tasks. After this week has passed then a full, company wide
training will take place, with the goal of accomplishing two tasks. First, to inform employees of
the new HRIS system and some of it s key features. Second, to set expectations among employees
of what their responsibility and interaction with the new system will consist of. A brief mention of

Henry Iv And Henry V By William Shakespeare
In Henry IV and Henry V by Shakespeare, a father and son have diametrically different reigns as
king. While both kings are politically savvy and gain the favor of the people, only one, Henry V,
has the divine right of kings. The divine right of kings is the belief that power is instilled in them
by God and rebellion against them is considered a sin. The influence of divine intervention is
shown through the punishment and guilt of Henry IV and the success of Henry V. The rule of
Henry IV illustrates the fate of one who seizes a crown that is not rightfully his by divine
ordinance: a reign troubled with treason and uprisings. He does not have the right to rule because
he has not obtained the crown through the law of primogeniture and therefore lacks the divine
power imparted on those who gain the throne legitimately. Henry IV seems to have all of the right
characteristics to be a successful king; however, he comes to the throne as an illegitimate ruler
with the responsibility of the death of God s chosen king, Richard II, on his shoulders. These
actions cause Henry IV to incur the wrath of God against him and to have a reign plagued with
conflict; his ambitiousness and political intelligence cannot fight back against the divine
punishment inflicted upon him. His divine punishment dictates that he will have no peace in his
rule. The instability of England when Henry IV becomes king is foreshadowed by Carlisle: In this
seat of peace tumultuous wars / Shall kin with kin and

Well, think about all these activities the people in New France had compared to what we do on a daily basis. For example, farming, hunting and gathering materials. We can do any of these activities today and we don t do some of them. We farm today. We only hunt for pleasure and not to gather food because, we have grocery stores. We don t need to gather materials because we have stores to buy materials. In New France, you would have to hunt to get your meat. In Canada, you can go to the grocery store to get meat. To prepare meat in New France, you would salt, smoke, or dry your meat. These were different methods used to preserve food. In Canada, you can put meat in the refrigerator or the freezer. President Obama s Speech On Flint s Water Crisis Hi Professor Cohen and classmates, President Obama s Speech on Flint s Water Crisis About five months after national news broke about lead contaminated water flowing from the faucets of homes with a vulnerable population of 99,000, (mostly poor minority residents). And when President Barack Obama was moved after receiving an invitation from Flint resident, 8 year old, Amariyanna Copeny Mari aka Miss Little . On May 04,2016, President Obama boarded Air Force One and land at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan. He then made his way to Flint Northwestern High School, where he addressed 1,000 eager residents. In his speech, the President said the following: пѓ I would have been happy to see Mari in Washington (but) a young girl shouldn t have to go to Washington to be heard...I come here to tell you that I ve got your back Flint s recovery is everyone s responsibility and I m going to make sure that responsibility is met.... The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a mediator. Coaching elements identified as being positively related to group cohesion include: the quality of training and instruction, social support, positive feedback and leadershipstyle (Yarmey, 2013). In particular, a democratic leadership style has been found to promote the development of team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Empirical evidence suggests that group s progress through a set of well defined stages before becoming a cohesive team. According to Tuckman s model of team development these stages include: forming, storming, norming and performing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a mediator. Leadership Factors Across many sports, research has provided empirical support for the connection between coaching elements and team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Specific coaching elements identified as being positively related to group cohesion include: the quality of training and instruction, social support, positive feedback and leadership style (Yarmey, 2013). In the YouTube clip, Al Pacino s Any Given Sunday Speech , the coach appears to demonstrate effective leadership skills promoting the team s cohesion. In his motivational speech, a degree of social support is provided through the fostering of a positive atmosphere. In addition, he provides instructions for the team s success by emphasizing that the group must work as a team in order to be successful in their upcoming game. Unfortunately, this clip offers little insight into the coach s decision styles (an important leadership factor related to group cohesion). Two opposing coaching leadership styles have been found to influence team cohesion: the autocratic style and the democratic style. While the autocratic style involves independent decision making by the coach, the democratic style stresses joint decision making and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Water In Annie John Water stands as a symbol representing a source of cleansing, purity, and life. Water usually associates itself with the image of restoration. This means that water can help restore the imperfections within a person. In the novel Annie John written by Jamaica Kincaid, water shows how the relationship between Annie and her mother grows and changes throughout the novel. The rainstorm, ocean saltwater, and bath water show some examples of the changes Annie and her mother experience within the novel. The rainstorm represents the change that went happened on the island of Antigua, and inside of Annie. Annie depends on her mother to show her how to live life. An example of Annie s dependency on her mother shows when she states the only way I could reach the water was to climb and get on my mother s back (42). Annie cannot swim, but shows that she has a strong feeling of trusts towards her mom because she ultimately sets her own life into her hands. Annie swam with her mom because it helped strengthen her kidneys, but it also brought Annie and her mother closer together. For example, Annie says I could not wipe that feeling out of my mind, the feeling that I had when I couldn t find her (45). Annie grows up, and the older she gets, the more the bond between her and her mom grow apart. Annie will never forget that day in the ocean when she could not find her mother. That sense of loneliness has become the way Annie now feels when around her mother. Annie figures out that she can do things independently now and does not need her mother s help. Annie states that I could not bear to have everyone else see how in disfavor I was towards my mother (46). The feeling Annie has now with her mother refers back to the feeling she had back in the ocean. She feels as if her relationship has grown deeper and darker, and that it will keep spreading apart with no end in sight, just like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. My Name In My Family Often names are chosen for a variety of different reasons; maybe the parents just liked it, it might be a name that s in the family for generations, or maybe it s chosen to pay homage to someone that was lost. The story of how my name, Jessica Lorraine , came to about began many years before my birth. There are countless reasons my parents chose my first and middle name, but the biggest decision they had to make was choosing my first name. Through the years before my birth a tragedy struck my family, and it brought great heartache to many. Although this tragedy brought great sorrow to the members of my family, my parents were able to take this pain and form it into a base for the name of their next child. A few years before my birth, in 1998, the death of my uncle Jason Crowe struck my mothers side of the family. His unexpected death affected the whole family; he had a large influence on everyone he met and had close relationships with all four of his siblings, including my mother Lorraine. Since this greatly affected my mother, she wanted to remember him in a special way. What other way to honor someone s life than naming one of your children after them. I wanted to have my second child s name start with a J, just like Jason s. My mother thought and then told her idea to the rest of her family and my father, Andy. • 9. How Wrestling Has Changed My Life Wrestling has and always will be a big part of my life, that s not to say I have had a pleasant nor a fair time on the wrestling mat, but I guess life s not fair. I have always enjoyed wrestling from the first time I stepped foot on a mat in kindergarten in my singlet that was 2 sizes too big, from the last time leaving the mat as a junior in high school limping off the mat in some of the worst pain I ve ever felt in my life. It s been in my family for as long as I can remember. My uncle has not missed being mat side, yelling for his favorite wrestlers at the MinnesotaState Wrestling Tournament in 20 years. My cousin wrestled for Iowa State University before coming back to his hometown in Mankato and suffering a career ending injury as well. My time on the mat was not always that of heart break. Going through elementary I never had a losing season, let alone a season where I lost more than five matches. In fifth and sixth grade I took place in NYWA and Gopher State. Gopher State is a tournament for the top wrestlers in Minnesota and all the states surrounding it. That was some of the hardest wrestling I have ever encountered. I placed in the top six at NYWA and not placing at Gopher state unfortunately. The summer before my junior year I went to multiple wrestling camps costing thousands of dollars and lasting weeks in time. And when it came time to vote for captains I just knew I was going to get it. The night before the coach told us who was going to be awarded captain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES Abstract: It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES). As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration 0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03 0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged between 0.04 1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026 0.091ppm. 1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of consumers on a daily basis. These products are directly applied to human skin and mainly produce local exposure to certain ingredients. • 11. Drug History And Policy Changes Drug History and Policy Changes There is a debate in the American government system on how to handle the use of drug and alcohol. In the 1960s drugs were uprising along with youth rebellion and in 1971 Nixon declared a War on Drugs (Citation a brief). This name is not to be confused with the band War on Drugs, but the term is still popularly used to describe the policies that Government officials are making regarding drugs and alcohol. This debate got reheated when Colorado legalized weed for medical and recreational use, followed by several other states. There has slowly been a shift in mindset from, alcoholics are drug addicts are all criminals and we (the law) should throw them in jail to addiction is a disease. Even the way that addicts/alcoholics are treated has changed to treatment centers with specialist versus throwing them in the hospital to detox and hoping for a change. Policies that are shifting the penalty from incarceration to treatment reflect these changes and help the individual suffering from the disease to get back on their feet. The war on drugs rings on, but changes are being made. War on Drugs As I said early, President Nixon issued the War on Drugs. He started by placing marijuana in the highest restrictive category of drugs, Schedule One, and ignored later attends to decriminalize drugs. However, starting in 1973, eleven states decriminalized marijuana usage. Ronald Reagan picked up where Nixon left off. Reagan s wife also started her own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Role Of The Accounting Profession And The Value Of The... Accountants play an important role in the world of business. The article, The Future of the Accounting Profession and the Value of the CPA. , illustrates the importance of the accounting profession and the challenges that accountants face. With over ten years of experience working in the areas of finance and office management, I have personal experience with various influences in the accounting world that were discussed in the article. This includes topics such as technological advancements, the merits of networking mentorship, the value of obtaining a CPA designation, accountancy education, and work life balance (WLB). The accounting profession continues to evolve alongside social trends and corporate developments, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and crowdfunding. In my previous position as Director of Finance Administration at Disability Rights International (DRI), I have traveled to many countries and conducted several international financial trainings and workshops to encourage education, transparency, and self sustainability to local partners and field offices. I have seen first hand how financial reporting and fiduciary responsibility is a powerful tool, which one can wield to impact and empower to promote social change. However the reverse is also true: social changes also affect financial reporting. • 13. I Am Codell Craddock For The Respondent Essay I am Codell Craddock for the Respondent. My colleague, Fiona O Brien has effectively demonstrated why the Hybrid Rights is merely dicta on the part of Justice Scalia and I will immediately follow by defining rational basis review. Rational Basis is the standard of review used by courts when reviewing matters pertaining to the fifth and fourteenth amendment. If a law proves to be rationally related to a legitimate government interest, then it passes rational basis review. In addition, it is not the duty of the court to review the intent of the law, but merely to decide if their is a relationship between the law and a government interest. This rationale was upheld in Swanson Swanson v. Gurthrie Independent school district when the supreme court ruled that the school district s rule to require all students to attend public school full time is a general law that tailors to a governmental interest. In our case, the candy ban was instituted to combat childhood obesity which is a governmental interest. Because as we saw in Barsky vs Board of Regents, the public health of a community is a vital part of a state s police power. It is clear from this, that although the Candy Ban incidentally affects the practice of a religion, there is a clear relationship between the candy ban and public health, a legitimate government interest. Therefore, it passes the rational basis test. Moving on let s discuss, for a moment, that the hybrid rights claim is viable. A claim that may be used when a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Broken Window Theory Of Crime Criminologist James Q. Wilson and George Kelling developed the Broken Window theory . According to their theory they believed that crime is the inevitable result of disorder (Gladwell 155). The broken window theory is known as a disorder and as chaos, therefore, crimes become an issue due to the fact that the impression of no one being in charge causes crimes to happen one after another and worsening along the way. An example often used is a broken window, which leads to another broken window, to graffiti, to loitering, etc. The disorder, the chaos and the abandonment of something or a place causes crimes to be followed one after another crime is contagious (Gladwell 155). According to the broken window theory, broken windows should not be left alone. They should be fixed in order for crime to decrease; therefor broken windows should not be tolerated due to the fact that it may cause an increase of crimes as well. The rise of a question then forms from this theory, because many departments use the broken window theory. Officers are known for keeping the law and keeping order. The officers are given a duty of addressing minor life threatening offenses and social disorder, which prevents major crimes to happen. They are to disapprove and stop crimes. But is the broken window theory broken itself when it comes to law enforcement. Could they be doing more wrong than actually doing well? Because officers are not only stopping crimes, but they are causing more trouble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Constitution and the Separation of Powers One of the earliest ideas of separating powers came in the 1600 s and is evidenced by the idea that the parliament then is what we would consider today as being the Legislative branch of government since it was in charge of taxes. To be a king in those days would be similar to the Executive branch, as the king conducted wars and enforced the law. However, credit is often given to Baron de Montesquieu, a French philosopher. According to the authors of our text book, John Locke initially desired there to be to branches of government, a legislative branch to create the laws and an executivebranch to enforce the laws. Montesquieu then supplemented Locke s idea by adding a judiciarybranch to resolve conflicts that the two branches by incur. When written, the Constitution laid out the basis for the separation of powers. In order to prevent any one branch of having complete control and power, each of the branches of government has certain powers and responsibilities in order to keep each other from exerting too much power. This is known as checks and balances. The first branch of government we will be looking at is the legislative branch. The legislative branch of government is responsible for making and passing laws and is more commonly known as Congress. Keeping in the nature of checks and balances, Congress has been granted certain powers to make sure that the judiciary branch and the executive branches do not abuse their power. One of the more robust powers that Congress ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Description Of A Flight Recorder 1. Introduction It is very difficult, when an accident occurs during a flight to determine precisely what happened for several reasons: Most of the time, during a flight, an aircraft is not in an environment where people cannot testimony what they saw (over water, high in the sky ...) When the aircraft crashes, it is often in an area difficult to access (open sea, on a mountain, ...) When the aircraft is ready to be examined, after being recovered from a difficult crash area or after a potential fire has been extinguished, the pieces are frequently severely damaged. To be able to retrace what happened during the last moments of the flight of the aircraft, before an accident or incident, a flight recorder has been developed. The information collected by this flight recorder can help the investigation teams to understand what happened even when the aircraft is badly damaged or even impossible to use to find answers. But developing a flight recorder is not simple precisely because it has to withstand a severe accident. When an extreme fire starts after a crash for example, the flight recorder has to stay in good conditions until it is recovered by someone on the crash site. Therefore, regulations, certifications and standards have been made to ensure that this element in the aircraft has all the required properties. Nowadays, the flight recorder has an increasing role to play in investigations of accidents because of the number of passengers that can be carried on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Trot of Negligence A tort of negligence is a breach of duty or failure of one party to commit to the standard of care required by law, resulting in damage to the party whom the duty was owed. Annie would have an action in negligence claiming compensatory damages for personal injury suffered as a result of Brett s negligence. Annie s personal harm, involving a fractured back was directly related to Brett s careless behavior of not cleaning up the alleged mess. The plaintiff Annie, has the burden of proof, and would need to prove that the defendant, Brett owed her a duty of care, and was carless in failing to do as a reasonable personwould have done, resulting in the damages suffered by the plaintiff. The elements must be proven on the balance of probabilities. Duty of Care According to the case Donoghue v. Stevenson [1932] AC 562 the duty of care states that the reasonable foreseeability test is sufficient to establish a duty of care where the damage is physical and careless manner is an act or an omission. There is a high risk of serious physical damage from the slippery mess not being cleaned up. Brett was the manager at the Tavern and owed every party goer, including Annie a duty of care. The physical damage that the plaintiff suffered was a fractured back. This test must be executed to determine whether a duty of care exists and looks to the foreseeability of a reasonable person in the position of the defendant. According to Blyth v. Erosion is unfortuanately present at Cronulla beach, the local government have tried to tackle this problem with solution such as dune stabilization and rip rap walls. Rip rap walls are when larged rocks are piled in a certain angle to catch drifting sand and protect the beaches from harsher waves and to protect buildings from high tides. There are also many programs which help to ensure the stabilization of dunes, these include the planting of new vegetation to combat erosion, fencing and designated walkways to prevent human interference. The main reason of dune stabilization is to slow down the speed of erosion. In 1974 the Cronulla beaches were at an all time low and was in a critical state, from this the University of New South Wales designed a new wall, a wall which is different from the conventional walls used to prevent erosion and transportation with these hexagonal concrete blocks weigh well over a tonne each to be used as a line of defence agiasnt the waves and erosion. • 21. Government s Military Interventions Toward Native Peoples... The primary memory of United States westward expansion in the 19th century is one of triumph because it doubled the nation s territory and increased trade. However, the Old West during the 19th century was characterized by America s brutal obsession with expansion and the concept of American exceptionalism. In Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, Judge Holden celebrates the human nature of violenceand its necessity to find order in chaos. Blinded by the greed for control, he refuses to acknowledge the norms of civilized behavior. Similarly, under the principles of the Manifest Destiny, the U.S. government s military interventions toward Native peoples overlooked violence. These parallels reflect the exceptionalist idea that one is inherently more virtuous and entitled to higher purposes. Historians and primary accounts confirm the parallelism that McCarthy draws between violence and American history. Therefore, preconceived notions about the positive aspects of American expansionism are overturned by the significance of its underlying violence. Attempts to justify westward expansion with Manifest Destiny advocated the pursuit of historical erasure. The American westward movement rooted from the brutality of American exceptionalism and destructive manipulation of history. A New York Daily Times article in 1851 romanticized Manifest Destiny as a national progress where the nation thirsts for freedom in the furthest ends of the earth ( Annexation in the Pacific ). Night Owl Analysis Bay Area locals, Guy Fox, deliver a feel good album, Night Owl, that could possibly sum up the direction of this past summer s sound, alongside with a good look into the future of new music, as the seasons change. Indie rockers Peter Granquist (vocals, drums, percussion), Nate Witherbee (vocals, synthesizer, guitar, piano), Greg Waters (guitar, saxophones, synthesizer) and Charlie Moore (vocals, bass, synthesizer, organ) experiment with synths, sweet melodies, and a distinct tone that has the ability to immortalize feelings flawlessly. Night Owl offers different moods and feelings throughout the album, orchestrated by playing with a simple recipe of sounds, presented in a new light each time, such as the first two tracks. Antique Furniture sets the tone and has the right amount of horns, and funky attitude, that is softened with a persistent synth. One of the greatest intros on the album would be for the track, Mind s Eyes. Palahniuk s quote express that from the moment we are brought into the world our personality is constantly shaped and refined through the connection of others in a predisposed attempt to gain acceptance. Most of the injuries that affect athletes occur in one of four structures in the human body: bones, muscles, tendons, or ligaments. Because ligaments attach bone to bone and play a major part in providing stability for joints, the major stabilizing ligament in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), assists in performing everyday actions of the human body including sitting, standing, walking, running, dancing, and participating in other sports. This short and round ligament, like all other ligaments, prevents slippage within the joint and allows the joint to properly pivot when performing an action (Duff 300). Without this particular ligament, the knees would be fragile and more susceptible to injury. Therefore, it would be impossible to do the simplest movements that are done by humans everyday, like walking and even sitting. This is one reason why many athletes should be aware of the physical indications that arise if they have torn their ACL while participating in athletic activities. In many cases, the symptoms that the patient feels after the trauma has occurred can help the doctor make his or her diagnosis. Many times a doctor will ask the patient to recall what happened after the injury was sustained. Usually with an ACL injury, the patient will describe a so called pop or snap that he or she heard during the impact. Pain, which is not terribly excruciating, will immediately follow, and if the individual tries to stand, he or she will be faced with an overwhelming feeling of instability, the leg will buckle under, and the individual will ultimately fall down onto the ground. He believes that every generation to come since Adam and Eve will now be immersed with the struggle of good and evil due to Eve s curiosity that led to sin, eventually banning both her and Adam from the Garden of Eden. In East of Eden, Steinbeck makes the contest of good versus evil apparent through his contrasting description of the setting, the characters opposing personalities, and society s changing morals. To many people, there are certain types of lies. But to others, all lies are the same, whether they are bad or good. About 65% of Americans think that lying is okay when saving someone s life (Article #1). However, I believe lying can be justified when you are protecting someone s feelings or life. Firstly, I have lied before, I am a teenager, after all, but it s only to help someone, never to hurt them. From personal experience, I remember someone asked me if their drawing looked good or not. When Rome conquered the East, the same divine honors were transferred to the Roman proconsuls (Burton, 1912, p. 80). Certain customs that came about during the emperor worship era, such as kneeling before the Emperor or his statue, was still practiced. In the provinces, priests of emperor worship still functioned but their function became more political than religious. Hostility remained between the Jews and Christians toward the Roman emperors. Introduction Cell surface receptors are integral membrane proteins that play a major role in signal transduction, allowing the function of Neurons, muscles and sensory organs to occur. Their basic function is to carry out the process of signal transduction by binding to an extracellular signalling molecule. Cell surface receptors regulate gene transcription, ion flux in the neurons and growth factors. This regulation allows the human body to function with little error. GPCRs consist of alpha helical segments separated by these intracellular and extracellular loops (Figure 1) Figure 1 Structure of G protein coupled receptor, showing alpha helical proteins attached to the three subunits of the G protein. GPCRs are associated with a G protein, which is heterotrimeric i.e. they consist of three different subunits: an alpha subunit, a beta subunit, and a gamma subunit (Figure 1). (Scitable by nature) G proteins are specialized proteins with the ability to catalyse the exchange of guanosine triphosphate (GTP) and guanosine diphosphate (GDP). (Scitable by nature) The G protein receptor is coupled to a trimeric G protein and controls the effector protein. The receptors activate cytosolic or nuclear transcription via several pathways. They are involved in signal transduction pathways such as MAP kinase pathway. (Lodish et al.). When a signalling molecule such as Epinephrine, serotine and adenosine is released and binds to the extracellular receptor site of the GPCR, the G protein changes conformation and GTP replaces the GDP on the alpha subunit of the G protein (Figure 2). This activated alpha subunit then parts from the beta and gamma subunits. The alpha subunit becomes inactive when the ligand leaves the receptor site and the receptors own phosphorylase activity removes a phosphate from the GTP molecule, therefore leaving GDP bound to the alpha subunit and the reformation of the 3 subunits. The novel is a novel about a solider in the civil war who deals with the difficulties of being in war. The novelfollows and captures his journey using many literary elements. Crane s use of style, plot, setting, and characters help enhance the story. Reader s get into the story because they know the internal conflicts of Henry. Another part of style that really enhances Crane s writing is the use of vivid imagery. • 49. Henry Iv And Henry V By William Shakespeare In Henry IV and Henry V by Shakespeare, a father and son have diametrically different reigns as king. While both kings are politically savvy and gain the favor of the people, only one, Henry V, has the divine right of kings. The divine right of kings is the belief that power is instilled in them by God and rebellion against them is considered a sin. The influence of divine intervention is shown through the punishment and guilt of Henry IV and the success of Henry V. The rule of Henry IV illustrates the fate of one who seizes a crown that is not rightfully his by divine ordinance: a reign troubled with treason and uprisings. He does not have the right to rule because he has not obtained the crown through the law of primogeniture and therefore lacks the divine power imparted on those who gain the throne legitimately. Henry IV seems to have all of the right characteristics to be a successful king; however, he comes to the throne as an illegitimate ruler with the responsibility of the death of God s chosen king, Richard II, on his shoulders. These actions cause Henry IV to incur the wrath of God against him and to have a reign plagued with conflict; his ambitiousness and political intelligence cannot fight back against the divine punishment inflicted upon him. His divine punishment dictates that he will have no peace in his rule. The instability of England when Henry IV becomes king is foreshadowed by Carlisle: In this seat of peace tumultuous wars / Shall kin with kin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
