Order is craved in our society. Take the recent terrorist attacks in London. What was the world s
response? World leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, instructed the public to remain
...united beyond all borders in horror and sorrow, but also in determination (RT News, 2017). This
sense of fortitude, avoidance of rash decisions and the importance of order is not new to western
society. Despite originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, the central themes of Neo Classicism are
still deeply ingrained in our contemporary society. These themes inform the public of the
importance of discipline and emotional restraint, the value of civility and the significance of social

Like Wickham, the audience is positioned to marginalise Nero, viewing him as cold, calculating
and cruel. This is highlighted through cool toned, chiaroscuro lighting and costuming Nero to look
malicious and menacing through facial tattoos and angular features. In Pride and Prejudice,
Wickham is represented as uneducated and uncivilised, writing that ...his studying the law was
mere pretence, and now being free from all restraint, his life was a life of idleness and dissipation
(pg. 195). This Neo Classical ideal is represented on the board. By emphasising Nero s unnecessary
genocide of worlds, the audience is manipulated to believe that the character is simple minded and
primitive. This reinforces the necessity of civility in modern society, demonising those who do not
conform to these standards.
Our society s value of the Neo Classicisms emphasis on ...emotions governed by personal restraint,
decorum and discipline... and the value of intellect and reason is highlighted through the correlation
between Star Trek and If (Stanners, 2009). Towards the beginning of the film, a flashback of Spock
s childhood occurs. As he is neither human or Vulcan, Spock is bullied and lashes out at his fellow
classmates. This allows the audience to understand the strict class structure which the Vulcans and
our society have and what happens to those who do not conform. Distraught by his loss of temper,
Spock consults his father. He informs Spock that ...Logic offers a serenity human s

Improving The Changing Societal Norms Of Operations...
Productivity Check ; Efficiency Check ; Standardization Check ; Reverse Logistics????
Introduction
Manufacturing and Services has undergone many changes and has evolved tremendously over the
years. The evolution is primarily due to dynamic market place which changes according to changing
societal norms. Operations management is the result of interplay between these two, (ever changing
market and society) and in the process, adopted many new trends practices to serve the changing
societal demands. Thus, understanding of Operations in yesteryears is essential to anticipate what
beckons for it in the future. History of Operations
The modern operations origin can be traced to the Industrial Revolution which began around
1770s in England. In its initial years only one person was responsible for production of goods
from start to finish and systems were not very developed; modern machines were not available.
With the advent of machine power, craft production started (skilled workers produce customized
items with simple, flexible tools). It lacked in achieving economies of scale and the process was
too slow.
During 1950s
With the World War II, pressure grew on manufacturing which led to adoption of quantitative
models for different areas of operations management such as project management, forecasting and
inventory.
During 1970 1980s
Quality Revolution: The world economy got liberalized and globalization set in. This onset led to

Positive Benefits Of Service Learning
Community service involvement is generally seen as having a positive impact on adolescents by
counselors and educators, but it is important to identify potential issues with effective service
learning. (Middleton Kelly, 1996). One of the biggest issues stems from a lack of facilitation on the
larger social issues involved with communityservice. When there is a proper forum to discuss the
experiences they receive while volunteering, students are given a chance to understand how
policies and civic involvement play a direct role in the lives of people in their communities. (Lakin
Mahoney, 2006).
Another issue is content involved in the community service activities. If teenagers are thrust into a
volunteer situation they don t understand or feel that they are simply being assigned made up work,
it can actually have a detrimental effect (Tugend, 2010). One way to make the most of volunteer
opportunities is to specifically design the content around areas of student development. By focusing
on key content areas, students learn how to use their current skill set to navigate new experiences
and difficult situations. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006).
A well organized and thoughtful volunteer opportunity has proven time and time again to be a
positive experience for youth. There are many studies that discuss the character building benefits of
service learning. Students who participate have higher academic achievements, develop critical
thinking, problem solving, decision making, planning

Danger Signals
As they mature, dendritic cells leave the peripheral tissues and migrate to the lymph nodes and
other lymphatic organs. In the paracortex of lymph node, a dendritic cell interacts with
lymphocytes, such as T cells presenting antigens for further processing by the adaptive immune
system.
4.1.1.2PAMP, Danger, Safe and InflammationSignals
The Danger Model holds that the maturation of dendritic cells is controlled by signaling molecules
named Pathogen Associated Molecular Pattern (PAMP), danger, safe and inflammation signals
found in the surrounding tissue. Tissues experiencing stress or damage emit danger signals while
healthy, unstressed tissues emit safe signals. Some molecular patterns commonly found along with
bacteria and other pathogens also act as danger signals.
Sufficient stimulus by danger signals causes dendritic cells to become fully mature. This causes
them to express signaling molecules that indicate the antigens they present were found in a
dangerous environment. Mature dendritic cells promote immune reactions to ... Show more content

Necrosis is the unexpected or forced death of tissue cell that indicate something abnormal was
happened in the tissue. The release of danger signal is the indicator of damage to the tissue against
which the immune system is trying to protect. The sufficient exposure to the danger signal causes
DC maturation to the fully mature state. Potency of danger signal is less than PAPMs, meaning that
a higher concentration of danger signal molecules are needed in order to produce a response of the
same magnitude as similar concentration of PAMPs. Concentration is the number of molecules of
signal per unit volume. Within this thesis, danger signals are indicators of abnormality but have
lower value of confidence that the PAMP signal. Danger signals expression is an indication that

Baskin (1972) used the market model to investigate the information content of consistency

investors decisions. He indicated that there was little effect, and that the consistency exception type
audit report possessed no information content. Firth (1978) in order to evaluate the impact of
releasing qualified audit reports on share prices on the date of the release of the report and their
impact on investment decisions and concluded that share prices responded to certain types of
qualifications and therefore the type of qualification influences investors decisions. He also added
that investors react differently to various types of audit qualifications. In another survey, Firth
(1980) used questionnaires, so that he could find out whether qualified and unqualified audit reports
have information content to discover whether bank lending decisions and credit analysts reactions
were affected by qualifications and the type of qualification. He also implied that these results
indicate the audit report should contain more detail in this situation so as to help readers of the
report to appraise the importance of the qualification for their decision making. Houghton (1983) in

its own Knit Your Bit campaign. You can help the Museum honor WWII veterans by Knitting Your

Legalize Prostitution
Prostitution Should Remain Legal!
Prostitution should remain illegal do to the fact it is dehumanizing to women, love, and self respect.
Prostitution is dehumanizing to the women who practice it because it shows to regular people that
prostitutes are whores. Reason why the public eye thinks prostitutes are whores because you re
selling your body to a random stranger you don t even know. In prostitution men remove women s
humanity. With that said, buying a womanin prostitution gives men the power to turn women into a
living breathing masturbation fantasy; He removes herself and those qualities that define her as an
individual, and for him she becomes sexualized body parts.

In bars in Thailand, the Philippines, and the Dominican Republic, guys pay bar fees to leave a club
with a worker and spend several days with her, Weitzer writes. The guys often foreigners pay the
woman s expenses during that time, in an arrangement that often confers status on the prostitute.
The women earn low to moderate salaries. (Fuchs 1)
Streetwalkers earn relatively little money and are vulnerable to exploitation, Weitzer writes. Not
surprisingly, they report less job satisfaction and get paid less than indoor prostitutes (bar workers,
brothel workers, or call girls). (Fuchs 1)
Streetwalking is also notoriously dangerous. One study found prostitutes in Colorado Springs
were 18 times more likely to be murdered than other women of a similar age. Some experts say
making prostitution legal everywhere as it is in the Netherlands, parts of Mexico, and parts of
Nevada is the only way to make it safer and less stigmatized.
Regardless of prostitution status legal or illegal its physical location strip clubs, massage parlors,

also a cruel lie to suggest that decriminalization or legalization will protect someone whose source

Mary Shelly Research Paper
Opening
One would think that a female writer, outlandish in the early 1800 s, would at least try to support
her own gender. Mary Shelly, the author of Frankenstein, was wife of Percy Shelly. Percy was a
romantic poet (and not the author of Frankenstein). Mary s mother was an active feminist writer
though she died when merry was young. Merry shelly grew up in a patriarchal society reading
mostly male authors. She wrote Frankenstein as a challenge by her future husband for a horror
story, not a social justice challenge and thus feminism was potentially not even considered. The
work of gothic literature Mary created centered on doctor victor Frankenstein, the male protagonist
in search to achieve greatness and create life, any wimpy female

Moral Dilemma In Les Miserables
A single quiet splash heard by no one signaled the end of Javert, a man of the law in Victor Hugo
s novel Les Miserables. He chases after Jean Valjean for years without rest or relenting, simply
because Valjean broke parole. Given an opportunity to capture him, Javert would show no
hesitation or mercy to the man who stole a loaf of bread. His resolve in this goal is shattered when
Valjean, given the chance to the man pursuing him, instead saves Javert s life. The conflicting
examples of a galley slave and a holy man confound Javert s biases. Valjean s actions caused him to
struggle internally, and eventually led him to give up on the world that he no longer understands
and commits suicide. Rather than fight through the sudden change in his life, Javert succumbed to
the struggle. Javert should have endured his moral dilemma rather than end his life.... Show more

The novel voices his thoughts by stating, Where was he? He sought himself and found himself
no longer, (Hugo 282). Beliefs building a worldview were shattered by one man, with no
obvious repair. At least, that s what Javert believes. Unquestioned morals controlled Javert
leaving him unprepared for when someone unexpected Valjean appeared. Without having
experienced some opposing views, Javert was unprepared for any challenge. Reevaluating his
beliefs or examining them from other angles to make sure he was satisfied with them would have
strengthened his resolve and will to live. Javert had a shallow foundation for his beliefs, and so
the first storm that came blew him over. Someone with a deep foundation, constructed from a
variety of materials along with time and effort to create is able to withstand the storms life brings
more effectively and for a longer period of time. A mentor or friend is exactly what Javert needed
in this instance. Facing the struggle seems impossible unless someone shoulders the load alongside

As the years progress on and as society continues to develop, It seems then when it comes to certain
equal rights though it says on paper that we are all equal it appears in actuality that we may never
be truly equal. The truth of the matter is that women are the majority in actuality. Men tend to
dominate in behavior, affluent and in their success. The fight for equal rights amongst women can
even in some cases be compare to the importance of the fight for equality amounts African
Americans. They both fought towards social injustice for the battle of equality and refused to
accept oppression further more. The matrix of domination is a term that entails the issues that
women of subordinate racial background and ethnic background face (Schaefer 364). Instead of...

Renewable Sources Of Solar Energy
In the past decades, there has been an important argument regarding energy and its sources. Energy
resources are classified into two groups: renewable and non renewable. Although renewable sources
have not yet been exploited to their maximum, their use has been increasing since the 1960 s. The
main renewable energysources are Wind, Geothermal, and Solar energy. Contrary to renewable
sources, non renewable sources lead in the production of electricity and other forms of energy. For
non renewable sources, Fossil fueland Coal are the main producers of energy in many parts of the
world, followed by the Nuclear energy that has increased in its used and production in the past
decades. Solar and nuclear energy are possible suitors in the task... Show more content on

The safety regulations for the solar industry are mostly concentrated in the materials used for the
production of PV cells. The greatest danger during the job itself is an employee falling from the PV
cell platform(roof) during installation or maintenance. Regarding the fabrication, some compounds
used may be harmful to the people or the environment if not wasted properly. An example is Tin
Oxide (Sno2) which is known to be a water and soil contaminant. With respect to the environment,
solar panels are considered friendly. These cells do not contaminate or pollute its surrounding,
making them desirable when trying to reach a balance between nature and energy production in a
specific location.
Despite the fact that solar energy harvesting has been possible for decades, its use did not
increase in the way it was expected. One of the main reasons behind the slow growth of solar
energy harvesting is the economy surrounding it. The cost of photovoltaic cells has decreased
significantly over the years, mainly due to improvements for mass production purposes, yet it has
not proven to be affordable. In comparison with hydrocarbon energy, solar energy s cost is still
high. Regardless its high cost, the solar industry produces positive economic impacts. Opposing to
the decrement in job vacancies in the coal industry, solar industry increases job positions yearly. In

Raisin in the Sun - play vs movie
The film did a very good job of portraying the emotions the characters were experiencing during the
play.
The strongest scene in he book would have to be when Walter turned down the money he would get
for not moving into the neighborhood . I felt this took a lot of guts on his part. I also thought that
this was a turning point in the novel. By Walter not accepting the money it showed that he not only
grew through out the play, but also that he put many things into perspective. His family became
the most integrate part of his life, by the end of the novel he realized what was more important. He
took a stand for not only him self but for his family when he didn t accept the buyout. I think

Walter seems to be overcome with a search for power and a drive to become wealthy and leave
the life of being a worker behind him. It also shows that he cares for his family seeing how he is
striving to give them the best, but that aspect is overshadowed by his greed. I feel the scene also
shows the Younger family at its lowest point in the movie. Walter is on the complete edge and is
thinking of stealing a community s money and the rest of the family, besides Momma, seemed to
lose their faith and trust in him. When things seemed hopeless with the loss of the money, they
only became worse as a loss in more than money occurred. A loss in their character, faith, history,
and respect for each other overcame the family, particularly Walter and Beneatha. Nevertheless,
Momma soon sets Beneatha straight with an emotional and positive speech about how there is
always something left to love and sets the standard that the family should adhere to. It marks the
turning point at the end of the movie
There were few differences between the movie and the book Raisin in the Sun. I felt that the movie
just gave you a visual to understand and relate to the characters more. The one major difference
between the two was the sequence of events from the movie to the book.
The most dramatic scene for me was when Bobo tells Walter Lee that Willie ran off with his
money. I really
felt that he was going to physically hurt Bobo. I chose this scene because I

Research Paper On Soil Success
Making Soil Successful
Alexyss Luciano
University of Florida Introduction The health of a growing plant depends more on just the amount
of sun and water it intakes. The very soil that a plant grows in can effect the plant in ways such as
height, time it takes to grow, and ability to accept nutrients needed for life. Successful soil is more
than just sand and clay, it also contains millions of microorganisms and types of catalysts.
Researchers have studied the effects of mulch, what type of water is used, and soil content when
growing a plant, but the factor with the most influence is what makes up the soils composition. The
purpose of studying soil is to ensure healthy growth of plants because their populations are
declining, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This research emphasizes the importance of organic material in plant growth which has been
proven multiple times even when not included in the hypothesis. Soil is often made up of many
different ratios of clay and sand. Tampering with the ratios was proven effective by scientists when
they concluded that the clay to sand ratio of 3 to 1 was most useful in aiding the plants growth [5].
Clay is a useful ingredient in the soil make up because it allows nematode reproduction, an organic
compound [5], which once again shows how adding organic matter into the soil formula can make
it much more nutritious for plants. In the many experiments that have been conducted, organic
matter is almost always the key variable, whether that be in if the matter is present or how much is
present. Organic matter is efficient with absorbing nutrients for plants, keeping soils thick and
moist, and also creating an extra water supply for plants [3]. Organic matter, like compost, manure,
and plant residue, have recently become more popular because of the rising prices and levels of
environmental harm that chemical fertilizers have [3]. Studies examining the use of compost in
soil have found that fine textured compost produces healthier plants than coarse textured compost
[3], but unfortunately there is not enough data to prove these conclusions to be one hundred
percent accurate. Even though scientists have discovered the best formulas to grow the healthiest

Analysis of Greg Campbell s, Blood Diamonds
When one is on the other side of the earth, there is only so much information that a person could
obtain. This was a great enough reason for the author, Greg Campbell, of Blood Diamonds to
expose what all eyes are not seeing and what many are blind to in this world. Campbell went out to
research the tracks and origins of a very valuable stone known as the diamond. In doing so, he urges
to research the origins and life of this precious rock. He goes about researching just exactly how
the life of the diamond begins in the jungles of Sierra Leone and ends up in the London on its
market. This is what could be said to be the ultimate reason for this book Blood Diamond.

All of us would find this topic in a way of inspirational because no matter what may be taking
place, there can be an instant where the painful story that s taking place would be told and
because of this story being told, changes will be made. For instance, Campbell speaks of Ismail
Dalramy who lost his hands in 1996 by way of an ax. Amputation was one of many brutal tactics,
as well as torture, mass rapes and looting done by the Revolutionary United Front or the (RUF).
This is only just a little taste of what the African had to undergo because of the sick diamond
trade. But, even so this helped bring light to what was wrong and helped more right to come out
of. This book continued shedding light on the overworked but underpaid Africans in the mines.
A tourist once mentioned, The pit looked more like a slave colony . On all sides, rib skinny men
stripped to their shorts were covered in mud and slime, the inevitable results of their jobs digging
for diamonds . Even though it was barely 10 a.m., they all looked exhausted . This is needless to
say extremely sad because there were Africans that were worked like crazy but barely getting paid,
rest, or rewards. Instead there is nothing but turmoil agony and pain.
Due to some Campbell s great compassion for what was going on in Africa, his book also shed light
to how

In the north and south of the United States, there are many differences in culture. The weather, the
population, and the economy are a few. They both have the same language but are spoken in two
different accents. You can always tell the difference between the two.
New York City is in the northern part of the United States and is considered the city that never
sleeps. It is also known as The Big Apple . People are walking the streets, eating at restaurants
and going to bars at all hours of the night. Tourist come to see the attractions and to go shopping.
There are many ways of transportation: train, bus, cab, car, or walking. Public transportation is
twenty four hours a day and seven days a week and is their main source of getting around town.
Housing is mostly apartments or condos that are for rent. Most people do not own their own
homes or own a vehicle, because they cannot afford it. The cost of living in New York Cityis more
expensive than most popular cities. The rent for a one bedroom apartment is around 3,000 an
month. Childcare is close to 2,000 an month. In order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle most
New Yorkers make close to 7,000 dollars a month. The population is 8,537,673 as of 2016 and as
many as 800 languages spoken there. People often keep to themselves and really have no time to
get to know each other, because it is a fast pace environment. It has the largest foreign born

Amusing Ourselves To Death By Neil Postman Analysis
Among nerds and Trekkies, Neil Postman s portrayal of the Typographic Mind perhaps sounds very
much like the mind of Mr. Spock. Like the Vulcan Mind, the Typographic Mind, utilizes a logical
and rational method, it is both detached and objective. Imaginably, the Vulcans were a culture
submerged in the printed word. The author paints a picture of the American written word based
culture of the eighteenth and nineteenth century in The Typographic Mind . He calls this the Age
of Exposition in his fourth chapter of his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death. He portrays the
influence on public discourse when based on the written word. It defines the content, the effects on
the audience and shapes the spheres of public life in politics, religion, and... Show more content on

He describes the act of reading having a sacred element, ritualistic and with a special meaning.
Reading was not casual as today with our abundance of leisure time. Whether by candlelight or the
morning sun, plow in one hand and a book in the other, reading was a serious endeavor with
purpose. Learning to read was the primary purpose of school (p. 61). Hence, the ability to read held
so much importance at the time because as Postman describes, the printed word had a monopoly on
both attention and intellect (p. 60). This print based culture made for a well informed public that
could equally grasp both historical references and complicated political matters of the day (p. 46).
Again, it is the Lincoln Douglas debate, the author highlights that portray this well informed public.
The audience for these deliberations represented an ability to transform the comprehension of
seeing print style long, convoluted, complex sentence to hearing them (p. 45). As the receiver of
messages, this well informed, literate audience of the eighteenth and nineteenth century carried this
skill into many areas of public

A good question but hard to explain. Women who are generally in an abusive relationship stay
because they are afraid of what their partner might do if they leave. Women are 6 times more
likely to be killed by an ex partner than by a current partner. Scary truth is that many abusers like
to apologize or a sure their partner that it was a onetime mistake to make them stay more and get
so deep involved in the relationship they don t know how to escape. There are so many
resources to help you with those situation like friends, family, police, doctors, therapist and so

Essay On Haste And Immature In Romeo And Juliet
As a late father, author, experienced polymath, brilliant inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin
often informed people to take time for all things: great haste makes great waste. Being one of the
founding fathers of the United States, Franklin declared that haste will lead to missed opportunities
and chaos. He also indicated that you should take time to think of every outcome, that may include
thinking about other people s fate or just your own. The adults and the young adolescents in this
play are all at fault for the rivalry. In Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet the majority of the
conflicts constructed have been by haste and immaturity created by the young adolescents and a
sufficient amount of adults. In their lifetime, plenty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juliet is willing to die for him regardless of the place or how they met; even though Juliet did not
get notified of his name until after the party. These are the leading factors of haste and
immaturity found in children and while there are many more prime examples of it, there are
also excessive amounts to do with adult haste and immaturity. Although parents or adults will
not admit it to the younger audience, they can be immature and hasty. There are no rules about
how to act and everyone makes mistakes, as it is natural to want to rush into things and do their
job accurately even if they do not have experience in that field. Juliet s father, Capulet is one of
the several victims of haste and immaturity. Regardless, he is very controlling, and he decides to
make Juliet s wedding as soon as possible, so he picks O Thursday let it be. O Thursday, tell her,
/ [Juliet] shall be married to this noble earl. (3:4:20 21). Paris proclaims as he realizes how soon
it is acknowledging that Thursday [is] tomorrow. (3:4:30). When Paris goes to see Friar Laurence,
the Friar questions the haste in this marriage and Paris explains that father Capulet will have it so
and it is not his place to change Capulet s mind (4:1:4). It is immature that Paris says that he could
not change Capulet s mind because he is the man getting married, and he also did not try to change
the date. An

The Role Of Domestic Violence In Professional Sports
Growing amounts of societal issues such as domestic violence and substance abuse have recently
put the leagues in the public eye. Sports leagues like the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA should
impose stricter penalties to deal with egregious conduct of professional athletes. The inappropriate
behavior from athletes reflects poorly on the leagues and teams. The leagues should have standard
protocol that comprises the diverse forms of unacceptable actions that currently plague their
leagues. It is problematic to suspend the athletes who dedicate their lives to competing
professionally in a sport that requires sacrifices from both family as well as the athlete themselves.
But if the athlete shows that they believe that they re above the law, education and adverse
consequences become necessary. The athletes are role models for their followers. Young fans are

Prostitution Vs Prostitution
By saying the word prostitution most people will assign it with a negative connotation, even
though prostitution has many sides: some that we don t think about. One policy for how we
should deal with prostitution won t work for every country let alone every state, but it is
something we need to discuss. Here are two very different narratives of two women, not that
these two accounts can generalize for all, but we can see the spectrum in a better light. I had no
idea that I was being tricked . . . I was clueless. In Beijing, when I asked the madam for money,
she told me to let this man take me to dinner . . . I didn t even speak Mandarin. He took me to a
hotel. I had never even used an elevator before in my life. I only realized what was going on
once I saw the bed in the room . . . The second time, they put something into my vagina and made
me pretend to be a virgin. Afterwards, it felt all rotten inside. I had to go to the hospital, it was
all stinky. The third time I tried to run away, but they caught me. I had to continue tricking
clients [into thinking I was a virgin]. But afterwards I would always bleed down there. [Later] I
ran away . . . and slept in the forest for two or three days . . . That whole time they would get in
touch with my parents and say that everything was fine . . . The madam knew my mom (58
Boitton). We can go from an extremely horrific account to one where the ladies truthfully decided
to join the profession, love it then have a normal life.

Hope Amidst Terror
The horrifically unjust persecution of the Jewish people during the Holocaust is widely recognized
as history s single most malevolent event. Oskar Schindler s courageous protection of his workers
has become one of the most famous acts of compassion that occurred during Hitlers systematic
execution of the Jews. Schindler was able to save over one thousand Jews by using his wealth and
connections. The compassion that this member of the Nazi party showed to the Jews was
punishable by death, yet he risked his life. Schindler and his assistant, Itzhak Stern, created a list

Through acts of selfless compassion good triumphs over evil. In direct opposition to compassion
is hatred. At the root of all evil is the escalation of negativity manifested in a series of beliefs that

a series of steps starting with ignorance, insensitivity, stereotyping, prejudice and bigotry which
are at the bottom of the iceberg meaning they are present, that can and do escalate to crimes of
discrimination, harassment and hate crimes. These are the steps Germany took under Hitler that

How Private Military Companies Affect Modern Africa
The prevalence of mercenaries in African warfare has been continual since the first

Africa, especially post World War Two, where mercenaries were not employed by at least one side,
if not both. With the growth of professionalized military companies and the loss of political will to
deploy conventional forces by Western countries, the usage of mercenaries is only going to
increase. This growth is leading to studies about the ethical, economic, and political applications
and ramifications regarding private military companies and their future use in
Africa. This literature review examines policy experts #39; and political scientists #39; research ...

The empirical research concluded two findings. If only a single PMC is hired, it is more likely to
underperform and prolong civil war and if multiple PMCs intervene in an ongoing civil war it is
more likely to be terminated.4 For example, if six PMCs intervene in the sixth year of a civil

Claude Mckay, 1889 1948 (unannotated) If we must die let it not be like hogs The simile let it not
be like hog motivates the audience to die with dignity, it does this by implanting the thought of
dying like a hog, since hogs often die a brutal and cruel death this simile motivates the audience to
die a righteous death. This is a powerful line as it states the idea of the poem and sets the scene for
the audience. This line is the beginning of an extended metaphor. Hunted and penned in an

At the point when a person is blamed for a crime they are either discovered guilty or innocent. This
is the fundamental thought of justice and it is the thing that people feel needs to happen on the off
chance that somebody has done something dubious. In the play The Oresteia by Aeschylus, the tale
of Clytemnestra guilt or innocents is addressed.
She does numerous things that individuals are not very content with and those disputable activities
all through the story; basically in the primary part Agamemnon gets her into an inconvenience. As
we investigate the body of evidence that works against her innocents by investigating the killings of
Agamemnon and Cassandra and the proud expression about the killings.
This activity causes a lot of fierceness in Clytemnestra. One could exceptionally surely know
why she would act along these lines. Clytemnestra see s the slaughtering of her little girl as
simply being murdered for her spouse s gain. She additionally feels that he could have picked an
alternate virgin to give up. One the other hands, if one takes a gander at Agamemnon s issue they
could think something else. Agamemnon was the general of his armed force and the pioneer that
his men gazed upward to. So when the benefit came to him saying I will give you wind for a
virgin sacrifice he took it as relinquishing somebody close to him. So Agamemnon picks his girl

Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written
originally in ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his
journey back home after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son,
Telamakhos tries to find his father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect,
Telamakhos must overcome the suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit
acts of heroism and bravery throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show
bravery in our modern way, but Odysseusis the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery
in the Odysseycome from him.
Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year
war in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take
food and wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go.

Relationship Between Macroeconomics And Trade Policy
Economists today think that factor endowments matter, but that there are also other new yet
important influences on trade patterns. The balance of payments includes the payments made for
net exports as well as financial transfers. A trade deficit must be balanced with foreign
investments, declines in reserves, or increased debt; likewise, a trade surplus will be balanced out
with financial outflows or increased reserves. However, a country may not be able to take full
advantage of its external economic opportunities unless its internal domestic economic organization
is strengthened and improved. William Cline talks about the relationship between macroeconomics
and trade policy, pointing out that the 1930s provided a classic case of mutually reinforcing
interaction between economic downturn and protection (123). One alternative to US external
adjustment would be the import surcharge in 1971, but it would let foreign countries immediately
retaliate with their own special protection against US goods. Similarly, during the recession in
1980s, loose fiscal and tight monetary mismatch and failure to recognize the importance of
avoiding sharp dollar appreciation were the central mistakes, which lead to huge trade deficit
(126). In the absence of forceful correction of US fiscal deficits and some additional decline in the
dollar, external deficits would widen even more. Therefore, proper fiscal, exchange rate, and
international coordination policies are needed to help avoid

Cost Of Globalization Essay
There was a time when most regions were economically self sufficient. Locally produced foods,
fuel, and raw materials were processed for local consumption. Trade between different regions was
very limited. Today, the economies of most countries are so interconnected that they form part of a
single, interdependent global economy. Globalizationhas been defined as the process of
international integrating arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas, and other
aspects of culture. With this meaning, perspectives, social norms, and business conducts are being

These distinct systems would also prevent global financial crises from happening as the systems
would not be dependent on each other. As time progressed, so did the policies and practices of
free trade. Citizens felt that as long as financial systems were separate, global free trade was safe.
Soon, the barricades to open, flowing capital began to disappear and citizens forgot the lessons of
the past and became more comfortable with global commerce exchange. Some drivers of
globalization are economic policies, political changes and technological innovations.
Indeed, the advancement of science and technologies has greatly reduced the cost of transportation
and communication, making economic globalization possible. Today s ocean shipping cost is
only a half of that in the year 1930, the current airfreight 1/6, and telecommunication cost 1%. The
price level of computers in 1990 was only about 1/125 of that in 1960, and this price level in 1998
reduced again by about 80%. These kinds of technological advancements greatly reduce the cost of
international trade and investment, thus making it possible to organize and coordinate global
production. At the forefront of globalization are multinational corporations (MNC); these
corporations have become the main carriers of economic globalization. They are globally
organizing production and allocating resources to insure profit maximization. The technological

have tended to avoid discussions of race, in part because it is an uncomfortable gray area since
fantasy literature does not yet have a clear taxonomy. It was not until the 1960s that audiences saw

The hydrophobic anchor which holds the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of gram negative bacteria in

essential for virulence and bacterial viability. These qualities make it an attractive drug target which

INTRODUCTION
Antibiotics are developed for the treatment of bacterial infections due to their effective clinical
properties (Appendix Fig. 2). They are extensively utilized for the inhibition of bacterial; DNA,
RNA, proteins and cell wall synthesis (reference). However, the efficiency of treating bacterial
infections has vastly deteriorated because of the ongoing emergence of multi drug resistant
pathogens (Appendix Fig. 3 Table 1 8) (reference). The prolonged use and misuse of antibiotics
have resulted in the evolution of bacteria attaining mechanisms which, prevent antibiotics from
binding to their molecular targets (Appendix Fig. 4) (reference). Additionally, antibiotic resistance
occurs in both gram negative and gram positive bacteria. An important aspect of antimicrobial
resistance has been shown to be the presence of LPS in most gram negative bacteria (reference).
The negatively charged highly polar LPS symbolises a tenacious barrier which reduces
permeability. This barrier protects the bacterial outer membrane bilayer against hydrophobic
compounds including, the entry of antibiotics into bacterial cells (reference). There are very few
drugs which target LPS pathways. LPS signifies one of the major paramount obstacles to the

William Shakespeare, and Albert Einstein. With the rise of geniuses such as these there are two
questions raised. What is genius? Is genius born or can it be learned? Scholars have gone back
and forth and there is plenty of evidence and countless examples supporting either side. However,
there appears to be a compromise between the two sides in how a genius comes about. To begin,
it is common for many people to laud a skilled person as a genius . In reality, a genius is defined
as, extraordinary intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity (Meriam). Clearly,
a genius who possesses more than just intellectual superiority; one must... Show more content on

Gates later went on co found Microsoft and create lasting and groundbreaking computer software
that continues to be valuable to society as technology has become common in day to day life.
Undoubtedly, Gate s intellect, passion, and creativity led him to create an extraordinary product and
established him as a modern genius. To begin, genius comes about through passion, creativity, and
natural talent and cannot be born . First, intellect is the obvious foundation for any genius,
however, it involves more than natural intelligence. To illustrate, an individual may have great
talent in a certain subject but lack of practice, imagination and passion will prevent him from being
a genius. On the other hand, one may not have an astounding natural ability nevertheless he
practices, has a passion for this subject and an open imagination; this individual may turn out to be
a genius. Thus, intellect is an aspect of a genius not the only component. Further, passion has long
been known to be a powerful force in humans and it has led to artistic and scientific advances.
Passion pushes individuals to not give up in testing new theories, invention or techniques. Insert
example of how passion motivated. To illustrate, Tesla faced much opposition nonetheless his
passion for his work pushed him to overcome them and to create. Thus, it is passion that sees
intellect through to

Vulnerabilities Are Known As Security Holes That Exist
Vulnerabilities Vulnerabilities are known as security holes that exist in software, buffer flow is

These viruses contain their own e mail server, so that they can replicate by sending email to all
mail addresses that they harvest from the system. Worms An example of a worm is the Blaster
worm, which rapidly spread through the Internet in August 2003. Blaster targeted computers
running Windows operating systems, and used a vulnerability in Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
code. Blaster affected computers running Windows 2003 operating system, Windows NT4.0,
Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Services Edition, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. After compromising
hundreds of thousands of systems, Blaster launched a distributed denial of service attack on a
Microsoft Windows update site. Trojan horses As the name implies, these are software programs
that are put onto target systems (whether by a direct hack, or as the result of a virus or worm) that
have a malicious intent. The Trojan can capture passwords, or provide root access to the system

Denial of service attacks (DoS) A denial of service attack attempts to put the condition will often

SELF HELP GROUP OF RURAL ASSAM AND ITS ROLE IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Dr. Polee Saikia1
1 Associate Professor, Department of Education, Gauhati University, Assam, India.
ABSTRACT:
Women empowerment is a universal issue. Women empowerment refers to the creation of an
environment for women where they can make decisions of their own for their personal benefits as
well as for the society. It refers to increasing and improving the social, economic, political and legal
strength of the women, to ensure equal right to women and to make them confident enough to
claim their rights. The overall development of the nation remains as a paradox until and unless the
women got empowered. The under privileged rural women are still far from empowerment.
Unemployment, illiteracy and low social recognition made them so. Presently the self help groups
that mushrooming in different corners of rural Assam have been creating opportunities for women
to be empowered. Here in this study an attempt has been made to study whether the rural women
got scope to get empowered by getting engagement in self help groups. 40 women from 04 self
help groups, 13 literate and 27 illiterate women were taken as sample for the study. To collect first
hand data self structured questionnaire and self structured interview schedule were prepared by the
investigators. Percentage was used to analyze data.

Crucible Rough Draft In the novel The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the story was based on
McCarthyism. This book is based on a real story and real people. John Proctor tore up his
confession and goes to his death because he can t lie about himself and ruin his reputations. He also
doesn t want people to think he is a bad person by confessing a lie just to save his life. John
Proctor knew that if he confessed he would make himself look guilty and his friends who didn t
do anything would look guilty. I speak my own sins, I cannot judge another I have no tongue for
it (Act IV,#148). They think to go like saints, I like not to spoil their name (Act IV,#148). Then

Asynchronous Technologies Support Learning And Teaching
Now that the LMS for the organization has been identified, the committee will determine the
different assets that can be integrated into the LMS. The committee must also decide if the material
will be delivered to the students synchronously, asynchronously, or as a combination of the two.
Synchronous learning environments support learning and teaching and offer students and teachers
with multiple ways of interacting, sharing, and the ability to collaborate and ask questions in real
time through synchronous learning technologies. Examples of synchronous online technology
types include videoconferencing, webcasts, interactive learning models, and telephone conferences
(Er et al., 2009; eLearners.com, 2012). In an asynchronous learning environment students are able
to actively participate in their own learning, giving them the opportunity to interact with their peers,
provide peer feedback, and reflect on the status of their personal learning goals and outcomes
(Harris et al., 2009; Simonson et al., 2012). Asynchronous technologies support learning and allow
more time for student reflection, collaboration, and student to student interactions (Skylar, 2009;
Meloni, 2010). According to Meloni (2010) asynchronous communication and learning is by far the
more popular learning type because many of the learning tools are free, require minimal hardware,
and are used at the student s pace. Recent research into the usage and efficacy of synchronous tools
has indicated that these

has a more mature, developed mindset that benefits the athlete by allowing them to see game plans
in a different perspective and allows the athlete to face challenges with a clearer mind, because
collegehas equipped them with more experience in tough situations. For example, Michael Jordan,

Bulls and he was able to excel and adapt while playing multiple positions on the court. Whether
he was playing center, forward, or even a guard in a game he always shined on the court. Not
only did Jordan s body mature, but so did his mindset of the game. In my opinion, Jordan had a
high amount of skill and was talented on the court, because he made the right choice to stay in
college, mature over four years, and finish his education. Most professional athletes did not finish
their college education, because they wanted to test their skills in a professional sport league like
the NBA, NFL, or the NHL. In my opinion, many athletes should do what Michael Jordan did and
put their education before professional career, so they can develop, grow, and still succeed as a

The World s Economic Superpower Essay
War has a way of bringing economies out of trouble. World War II for example, brought the
United States out of the great depression and cemented them as the world s greatest economy.
War, however, has no place on the horizon for China if they want to become the world s economic
superpower. China relies too heavily on foreign influence and investment to take a risk on
nationalistic or militaristic gains. While there are some pro conflict forces who have power within
China, these desires will go unrealized as long as supreme leader Xi Jinping is in power. He
understands the interests of China as how important it is for them to maintain positive international
relationships, especially with technically advanced nations such as Russia and the United States.
The vast extent of international trade through globalization, the large quantity of foreign
investment, and the need for peaceful growth all motivate Xi Jinping to overpower the war prone
forces among ruling groups in China and keep the country on a path towards prosperity, not war. As
one of the great producing nations on this planet, China needs to maintain open and free trading
throughout the world. This open trading and globalization has greatly benefited China as jobs are
created and wealth and power sees unprecedented growth in the country (Wang 234). Beyond
increasing prosperity, China s trade network has given the CCP the opportunity to borrow the
institutions and emulate the practices of the industrialized

Taxation Of National Tax Sovereignty For Income Tax
In this essay, the issues for taxation of national tax sovereignty for income tax, corporation tax,
value added tax and excise duties are discussed as well as an opinion as to whether sovereign
nations should compete or co operate on matters of tax policy. Sovereign nations have different tax
rates and they tend to change with each taxyear. The issues of direct and indirect taxes are
numerous and this essay will discuss two major aspects of each using the recent issue of Scotland s
independence for major explanations. These are direct taxes such as Income taxand Corporation tax;
indirect taxes such as Value Added Tax
(VAT) and Excise tax.
Income tax as defined by Melville, 2014 (page 15) is: tax assessed for a tax year (or year of
assessment ) and is based on the taxpayer s total income for the year from all sources, ignoring
any income which is exempt from income tax . Sovereign nations set their own taxes individually
and as such taxpayers respond differently depending on the changes in tax rate in the respective
tax system. The changes in income tax rate from one tax year to another affects both high and low
income earners. However, in an analysis for four decades of the US tax system, it was concluded
that high income earners tend to respond to a greater extent to tax changes than low income tax
payers . Likewise, Micro economists suggest that this is majorly due to the fact that educational
achievements are a major contributor to the differences in income between

Preface To Lyrical Ballads William Wordsworth Analysis
In the document entitled Preface to Lyrical Ballads (1800) , William Wordsworth a poet from the
turn of the seventeenth century discusses his poems and the life of a poet. Wordsworth is a poet
who grew up around the time of the French Revolution and was one of the leaders of a new path
in English poetry. The document is taken from the preface of a collection of poems written by
Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, another poet of the day. Wordsworth was an
Englishmen, and traveled to France inbetween1790 and 179, when the world seemed to be
everchanging and moving forward at an unstoppable pace.

steam engine, trains, the harnessing of the power of coal. We also see many of his point in the
social change of the world, the common man and his language are the driving force of the
industrial revolution. I think Wordsworth was predicting something that many people were in
desperate need for, a change in the way the world

Ethnocentrism And Ethnocentrism In Japan
Ethnocentrism: Ethnic Homogeneity In many ways, Japan has been looked upon as a strangely
homogeneous society for much of its modern history. And for some, it stands as one of the most
homogeneous nation in the world. However, when looking at Japan as a whole, and considering
whether or not it homogeneity is a problem, or just another cultural phenomenon, one must look
towards the root cause of homogeneism in Japan. In Japan s past, it has has been questioned, as
well as assumed, that the growth of Japans homogeneous viewpoint was put forward by the
government of Japan, and was done so by circulating false accusations of its lineage. Which these
false stories of lineage, Japan has grown in its ethnocentric views and ways. Ethnocentrism, or...

One example of this happened back in the 1970 s and 1980 s when Japan only accepted a small
number of refugee s from Vietnam and other nations in the southern parts of Asia. Yet at the
same time Japan was bringing in labor for Korea and China before and during World War II.
Like stated before, once Japan felt itself become a weaker force in the world, and its own view
of itself suffered, ethnocentrism strived. Things started to change. Japan let in less cheep labor
and less refugees as a way to preserve its pureness. Another argument made by Japan when asked
why they had refused to bring in refugees at this time is very much the same argument made by
Japan s establishment today. The reason Japan accepts so little refugees and the like is that the
mono ethnic Japanese society has no tradition of accepting outsiders. However, as stated
previously, the case before World War II showed the opposite. To put things into todays
perspective, over the last few years, Japan has accepted about 2,560 refugees from around the
world, while the United Kingdom has accepted 117,161 refugees as of 2015. Keeping in mind that
the UK measures slightly less in square meters than Japan, so the reason cannot be made that there
is no room. Whether or not Japan is accepting refugees from outside of Japan

Reading Admissions Essay
Since childhood, I have been enamored with reading. My passion for reading was passed from
my mother who has always advocated literacy to my siblings and me. During elementary school,
my teachers would send report cards with comments admonishing me for reading throughout
class. A novel would be hidden behind a textbook or in my lap, and I would sneak a glance
whenever possible. When school was dismissed, my nose would be buried inside a book. I would
read anything I could get my hands on: my brother s books, my mom s Women s Day
magazines, and even the backs of cereal boxes. I would snuggle up in blankets, grab the latest
Magic Treehouse book, and plunge into magical worlds for countless hours. Every summer break I
would spend my time reading numerous books for my library s Summer Reading Program.
My preferences changed as I grew older. By age eleven, I was reading Young Adult Fiction,
which challenged me more than children s novels. The Harry Potter, Maximum Ride, and Lord of
the Rings series enthralled me, and I waited desperately for each installment to be released. It was
also during this time that I read my family s collection of classics. The cultures and time periods in
books like Austen s Emma, Lereaux s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scarlet Letter. They were intriguing and compelled me to read more classics. I soon fell in love
with beautifully written and thought provoking books like Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. Beloved and timeless, classics provide an insight into the society,
beliefs, and customs of other cultures, which in turn benefits me in understanding the

The Laws That Impact Hiring Practices
Three Laws that Impact Hiring Practices
After reading JetBlue Airways: Starting from Scratch I considered different aspects of the case and
realized there are certain employment laws that JetBlue should be aware of to guarantee that they
are following state and government laws that were enacted to protect the rights of others. The three
laws identified are the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discriminationin Employment Act of
1967, and American with Disabilities Act. These detailed laws contain information to assist
JetBlue tremulously in their hiring practices and eliminate the possibility of a lawsuit being
bought against them. In the meanwhile, compliance with these laws are obligatory and heavy
penalties can be imposed if they are not observed by JetBlue. It will affect their image and caused
them to be viewed as a company with faulty hiring practices and one who does not comply with the
laws set in place therefore felonious charges may be bought upon them.
The law with the highest influence on opportunity employment equality for JetBlue is Title VII of
the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Therefore, under Civil Rights Act, it will be unlawful for JetBlue to
differentiate during the process of hiring, firing, promoting, or rewarding an employee in areas
based on certain things such as race, religion, or national origin. Per the Civil Rights Act retaliation
is prohibited against any employee who participates in an investigation against a company. JetBlue

Nectar In A Sieve Essay
Nectar in a Sieve
Kamala Purnaiya Taylor is an Indian novelist and journalist from Mysore in southern India. Being a
very private person in nature, her literature is usually written under the pseudonym of Kamala
Markandaya. After studying history at the University of Madras, she worked as a journalist and
published short stories in Indian newspapers. A couple of years after she immigrated to England
with her English husband, Markandaya published her first novel, Nectar in the Sieve.
This novel won several awards, was chosen as a Book of the Month Club Main Selection in the
United States, and the American Library Association named it a notable book in 1955. Despite her
success, Markandaya remained an extremely private person, revealing little about her personal life
and influences. Even so, insight can be gained into her work by evaluating the religious, political,
and social contexts of her writing.
Having been raised in India as a Hindu Brahmin, in her work, Markandaya addresses a
fundamental question of Hindu belief: What does it mean to be human? Her Hindu beliefs, and
traditions are central to Nectar in a Sieve, and remnants of the epic Ramayana, one of the best loved
Indian folktales, are also woven throughout the novel. Markandaya shapes Rukmani, the main

  • 2. Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice By Rudyard Kipling s... Order is craved in our society. Take the recent terrorist attacks in London. What was the world s response? World leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, instructed the public to remain ...united beyond all borders in horror and sorrow, but also in determination (RT News, 2017). This sense of fortitude, avoidance of rash decisions and the importance of order is not new to western society. Despite originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, the central themes of Neo Classicism are still deeply ingrained in our contemporary society. These themes inform the public of the importance of discipline and emotional restraint, the value of civility and the significance of social responsibility, all essential to maintain harmony in our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Wickham, the audience is positioned to marginalise Nero, viewing him as cold, calculating and cruel. This is highlighted through cool toned, chiaroscuro lighting and costuming Nero to look malicious and menacing through facial tattoos and angular features. In Pride and Prejudice, Wickham is represented as uneducated and uncivilised, writing that ...his studying the law was mere pretence, and now being free from all restraint, his life was a life of idleness and dissipation (pg. 195). This Neo Classical ideal is represented on the board. By emphasising Nero s unnecessary genocide of worlds, the audience is manipulated to believe that the character is simple minded and primitive. This reinforces the necessity of civility in modern society, demonising those who do not conform to these standards. Our society s value of the Neo Classicisms emphasis on ...emotions governed by personal restraint, decorum and discipline... and the value of intellect and reason is highlighted through the correlation between Star Trek and If (Stanners, 2009). Towards the beginning of the film, a flashback of Spock s childhood occurs. As he is neither human or Vulcan, Spock is bullied and lashes out at his fellow classmates. This allows the audience to understand the strict class structure which the Vulcans and our society have and what happens to those who do not conform. Distraught by his loss of temper, Spock consults his father. He informs Spock that ...Logic offers a serenity human s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Improving The Changing Societal Norms Of Operations... Productivity Check ; Efficiency Check ; Standardization Check ; Reverse Logistics???? Introduction Manufacturing and Services has undergone many changes and has evolved tremendously over the years. The evolution is primarily due to dynamic market place which changes according to changing societal norms. Operations management is the result of interplay between these two, (ever changing market and society) and in the process, adopted many new trends practices to serve the changing societal demands. Thus, understanding of Operations in yesteryears is essential to anticipate what beckons for it in the future. History of Operations The modern operations origin can be traced to the Industrial Revolution which began around 1770s in England. In its initial years only one person was responsible for production of goods from start to finish and systems were not very developed; modern machines were not available. With the advent of machine power, craft production started (skilled workers produce customized items with simple, flexible tools). It lacked in achieving economies of scale and the process was too slow. During 1950s With the World War II, pressure grew on manufacturing which led to adoption of quantitative models for different areas of operations management such as project management, forecasting and inventory. During 1970 1980s Quality Revolution: The world economy got liberalized and globalization set in. This onset led to increased competition among firms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Positive Benefits Of Service Learning Community service involvement is generally seen as having a positive impact on adolescents by counselors and educators, but it is important to identify potential issues with effective service learning. (Middleton Kelly, 1996). One of the biggest issues stems from a lack of facilitation on the larger social issues involved with communityservice. When there is a proper forum to discuss the experiences they receive while volunteering, students are given a chance to understand how policies and civic involvement play a direct role in the lives of people in their communities. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006). Another issue is content involved in the community service activities. If teenagers are thrust into a volunteer situation they don t understand or feel that they are simply being assigned made up work, it can actually have a detrimental effect (Tugend, 2010). One way to make the most of volunteer opportunities is to specifically design the content around areas of student development. By focusing on key content areas, students learn how to use their current skill set to navigate new experiences and difficult situations. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006). A well organized and thoughtful volunteer opportunity has proven time and time again to be a positive experience for youth. There are many studies that discuss the character building benefits of service learning. Students who participate have higher academic achievements, develop critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, planning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Danger Signals As they mature, dendritic cells leave the peripheral tissues and migrate to the lymph nodes and other lymphatic organs. In the paracortex of lymph node, a dendritic cell interacts with lymphocytes, such as T cells presenting antigens for further processing by the adaptive immune system. 4.1.1.2PAMP, Danger, Safe and InflammationSignals The Danger Model holds that the maturation of dendritic cells is controlled by signaling molecules named Pathogen Associated Molecular Pattern (PAMP), danger, safe and inflammation signals found in the surrounding tissue. Tissues experiencing stress or damage emit danger signals while healthy, unstressed tissues emit safe signals. Some molecular patterns commonly found along with bacteria and other pathogens also act as danger signals. Sufficient stimulus by danger signals causes dendritic cells to become fully mature. This causes them to express signaling molecules that indicate the antigens they present were found in a dangerous environment. Mature dendritic cells promote immune reactions to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Necrosis is the unexpected or forced death of tissue cell that indicate something abnormal was happened in the tissue. The release of danger signal is the indicator of damage to the tissue against which the immune system is trying to protect. The sufficient exposure to the danger signal causes DC maturation to the fully mature state. Potency of danger signal is less than PAPMs, meaning that a higher concentration of danger signal molecules are needed in order to produce a response of the same magnitude as similar concentration of PAMPs. Concentration is the number of molecules of signal per unit volume. Within this thesis, danger signals are indicators of abnormality but have lower value of confidence that the PAMP signal. You can help the Museum honor WWII veterans by Knitting Your Bit in this case a simple, but cozy, scarf to be donated to a veteran in a Veterans Center somewhere in the United States. People are no longer behind the cause like they were during WWII. You no longer see large scale projects where people give of themselves and their time to support troops or veterans. Prostitution is dehumanizing to the women who practice it because it shows to regular people that prostitutes are whores. Reason why the public eye thinks prostitutes are whores because you re selling your body to a random stranger you don t even know. In prostitution men remove women s humanity. With that said, buying a womanin prostitution gives men the power to turn women into a living breathing masturbation fantasy; He removes herself and those qualities that define her as an individual, and for him she becomes sexualized body parts. (Fuchs 1) Streetwalkers earn relatively little money and are vulnerable to exploitation, Weitzer writes. Not surprisingly, they report less job satisfaction and get paid less than indoor prostitutes (bar workers, brothel workers, or call girls). (Fuchs 1) Streetwalking is also notoriously dangerous. One study found prostitutes in Colorado Springs were 18 times more likely to be murdered than other women of a similar age. Some experts say making prostitution legal everywhere as it is in the Netherlands, parts of Mexico, and parts of Nevada is the only way to make it safer and less stigmatized. Regardless of prostitution status legal or illegal its physical location strip clubs, massage parlors, streets, escort, home, and hotel prostitution is extremely dangerous for women homicide death. • 9. Mary Shelly Research Paper Opening One would think that a female writer, outlandish in the early 1800 s, would at least try to support her own gender. Mary Shelly, the author of Frankenstein, was wife of Percy Shelly. Percy was a romantic poet (and not the author of Frankenstein). Mary s mother was an active feminist writer though she died when merry was young. Merry shelly grew up in a patriarchal society reading mostly male authors. She wrote Frankenstein as a challenge by her future husband for a horror story, not a social justice challenge and thus feminism was potentially not even considered. The work of gothic literature Mary created centered on doctor victor Frankenstein, the male protagonist in search to achieve greatness and create life, any wimpy female ... • 10. Moral Dilemma In Les Miserables A single quiet splash heard by no one signaled the end of Javert, a man of the law in Victor Hugo s novel Les Miserables. He chases after Jean Valjean for years without rest or relenting, simply because Valjean broke parole. Given an opportunity to capture him, Javert would show no hesitation or mercy to the man who stole a loaf of bread. His resolve in this goal is shattered when Valjean, given the chance to the man pursuing him, instead saves Javert s life. The conflicting examples of a galley slave and a holy man confound Javert s biases. Valjean s actions caused him to struggle internally, and eventually led him to give up on the world that he no longer understands and commits suicide. Rather than fight through the sudden change in his life, Javert succumbed to the struggle. Javert should have endured his moral dilemma rather than end his life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel voices his thoughts by stating, Where was he? He sought himself and found himself no longer, (Hugo 282). Beliefs building a worldview were shattered by one man, with no obvious repair. At least, that s what Javert believes. Unquestioned morals controlled Javert leaving him unprepared for when someone unexpected Valjean appeared. Without having experienced some opposing views, Javert was unprepared for any challenge. Reevaluating his beliefs or examining them from other angles to make sure he was satisfied with them would have strengthened his resolve and will to live. Javert had a shallow foundation for his beliefs, and so the first storm that came blew him over. Someone with a deep foundation, constructed from a variety of materials along with time and effort to create is able to withstand the storms life brings more effectively and for a longer period of time. A mentor or friend is exactly what Javert needed in this instance. Facing the struggle seems impossible unless someone shoulders the load alongside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Matrix Of Domination As the years progress on and as society continues to develop, It seems then when it comes to certain equal rights though it says on paper that we are all equal it appears in actuality that we may never be truly equal. The truth of the matter is that women are the majority in actuality. Men tend to dominate in behavior, affluent and in their success. The fight for equal rights amongst women can even in some cases be compare to the importance of the fight for equality amounts African Americans. They both fought towards social injustice for the battle of equality and refused to accept oppression further more. • 12. Renewable Sources Of Solar Energy In the past decades, there has been an important argument regarding energy and its sources. Energy resources are classified into two groups: renewable and non renewable. Although renewable sources have not yet been exploited to their maximum, their use has been increasing since the 1960 s. The main renewable energysources are Wind, Geothermal, and Solar energy. Contrary to renewable sources, non renewable sources lead in the production of electricity and other forms of energy. For non renewable sources, Fossil fueland Coal are the main producers of energy in many parts of the world, followed by the Nuclear energy that has increased in its used and production in the past decades. Solar and nuclear energy are possible suitors in the task... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The safety regulations for the solar industry are mostly concentrated in the materials used for the production of PV cells. The greatest danger during the job itself is an employee falling from the PV cell platform(roof) during installation or maintenance. Regarding the fabrication, some compounds used may be harmful to the people or the environment if not wasted properly. An example is Tin Oxide (Sno2) which is known to be a water and soil contaminant. With respect to the environment, solar panels are considered friendly. These cells do not contaminate or pollute its surrounding, making them desirable when trying to reach a balance between nature and energy production in a specific location. Despite the fact that solar energy harvesting has been possible for decades, its use did not increase in the way it was expected. One of the main reasons behind the slow growth of solar energy harvesting is the economy surrounding it. The cost of photovoltaic cells has decreased significantly over the years, mainly due to improvements for mass production purposes, yet it has not proven to be affordable. In comparison with hydrocarbon energy, solar energy s cost is still high. Regardless its high cost, the solar industry produces positive economic impacts. • 13. Raisin in the Sun - play vs movie The film did a very good job of portraying the emotions the characters were experiencing during the play. The strongest scene in he book would have to be when Walter turned down the money he would get for not moving into the neighborhood . I felt this took a lot of guts on his part. I also thought that this was a turning point in the novel. By Walter not accepting the money it showed that he not only grew through out the play, but also that he put many things into perspective. His family became the most integrate part of his life, by the end of the novel he realized what was more important. Walter seems to be overcome with a search for power and a drive to become wealthy and leave the life of being a worker behind him. It also shows that he cares for his family seeing how he is striving to give them the best, but that aspect is overshadowed by his greed. I feel the scene also shows the Younger family at its lowest point in the movie. Walter is on the complete edge and is thinking of stealing a community s money and the rest of the family, besides Momma, seemed to lose their faith and trust in him. When things seemed hopeless with the loss of the money, they only became worse as a loss in more than money occurred. A loss in their character, faith, history, and respect for each other overcame the family, particularly Walter and Beneatha. Nevertheless, Momma soon sets Beneatha straight with an emotional and positive speech about how there is always something left to love and sets the standard that the family should adhere to. It marks the turning point at the end of the movie There were few differences between the movie and the book Raisin in the Sun. I felt that the movie just gave you a visual to understand and relate to the characters more. The one major difference between the two was the sequence of events from the movie to the book. • 14. Research Paper On Soil Success Making Soil Successful Alexyss Luciano University of Florida Introduction The health of a growing plant depends more on just the amount of sun and water it intakes. The very soil that a plant grows in can effect the plant in ways such as height, time it takes to grow, and ability to accept nutrients needed for life. Successful soil is more than just sand and clay, it also contains millions of microorganisms and types of catalysts. Researchers have studied the effects of mulch, what type of water is used, and soil content when growing a plant, but the factor with the most influence is what makes up the soils composition. The purpose of studying soil is to ensure healthy growth of plants because their populations are declining, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This research emphasizes the importance of organic material in plant growth which has been proven multiple times even when not included in the hypothesis. Soil is often made up of many different ratios of clay and sand. Tampering with the ratios was proven effective by scientists when they concluded that the clay to sand ratio of 3 to 1 was most useful in aiding the plants growth [5]. Clay is a useful ingredient in the soil make up because it allows nematode reproduction, an organic compound [5], which once again shows how adding organic matter into the soil formula can make it much more nutritious for plants. In the many experiments that have been conducted, organic matter is almost always the key variable, whether that be in if the matter is present or how much is present. Organic matter is efficient with absorbing nutrients for plants, keeping soils thick and moist, and also creating an extra water supply for plants [3]. Organic matter, like compost, manure, and plant residue, have recently become more popular because of the rising prices and levels of environmental harm that chemical fertilizers have [3]. Studies examining the use of compost in soil have found that fine textured compost produces healthier plants than coarse textured compost [3], but unfortunately there is not enough data to prove these conclusions to be one hundred percent accurate. Even though scientists have discovered the best formulas to grow the healthiest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The balance of payments includes the payments made for net exports as well as financial transfers. A trade deficit must be balanced with foreign investments, declines in reserves, or increased debt; likewise, a trade surplus will be balanced out with financial outflows or increased reserves. However, a country may not be able to take full advantage of its external economic opportunities unless its internal domestic economic organization is strengthened and improved. William Cline talks about the relationship between macroeconomics and trade policy, pointing out that the 1930s provided a classic case of mutually reinforcing interaction between economic downturn and protection (123). One alternative to US external adjustment would be the import surcharge in 1971, but it would let foreign countries immediately retaliate with their own special protection against US goods. Similarly, during the recession in 1980s, loose fiscal and tight monetary mismatch and failure to recognize the importance of avoiding sharp dollar appreciation were the central mistakes, which lead to huge trade deficit (126). In the absence of forceful correction of US fiscal deficits and some additional decline in the dollar, external deficits would widen even more. Therefore, proper fiscal, exchange rate, and international coordination policies are needed to help avoid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

TPS was created by the founder of Toyota Motor Corporation as a set of principles that have been proven in day to day practice over many years (Toyota Australia n.d.) TPS has three desired outcomes: To provide the customer with the highest quality vehicles, at lowest possible cost, in a timely manner with the shortest possible lead times. To provide members with work satisfaction, job security and fair treatment. It gives the company flexibility to respond to the market, achieve profit through cost reduction activities and long term prosperity. (Toyota Australia n.d.) TPS consists of Kaizen, Just In Time (JIT), and Jidoka. Kaizen means never stop improving. Toyota encourages its employees to not only follow the rules, but also improve the rules to achieve highest productivity. Just In Time means to produce necessary units in the necessary quantities at the necessary time. Jidoka means automation with a human touch (Toyota Australia n.d.). Toyota Australia utilises its manufacturing plant in Althona, Victoria to produce cars in five departments. Firstly, powertrain department produces engine components. • 35. Cost Of Globalization Essay There was a time when most regions were economically self sufficient. Locally produced foods, fuel, and raw materials were processed for local consumption. Trade between different regions was very limited. Today, the economies of most countries are so interconnected that they form part of a single, interdependent global economy. Globalizationhas been defined as the process of international integrating arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas, and other aspects of culture. With this meaning, perspectives, social norms, and business conducts are being exchanged across cultures. It has changed the world in more ways than we can imagine. These distinct systems would also prevent global financial crises from happening as the systems would not be dependent on each other. As time progressed, so did the policies and practices of free trade. Citizens felt that as long as financial systems were separate, global free trade was safe. Soon, the barricades to open, flowing capital began to disappear and citizens forgot the lessons of the past and became more comfortable with global commerce exchange. Some drivers of globalization are economic policies, political changes and technological innovations. Indeed, the advancement of science and technologies has greatly reduced the cost of transportation and communication, making economic globalization possible. Today s ocean shipping cost is only a half of that in the year 1930, the current airfreight 1/6, and telecommunication cost 1%. The price level of computers in 1990 was only about 1/125 of that in 1960, and this price level in 1998 reduced again by about 80%. These kinds of technological advancements greatly reduce the cost of international trade and investment, thus making it possible to organize and coordinate global production. At the forefront of globalization are multinational corporations (MNC); these corporations have become the main carriers of economic globalization. They are globally organizing production and allocating resources to insure profit maximization. The technological advancement at almost every level, from widespread Internet access to ... Race And Hybridity In The Falcon Race and Hybridity in Saga Book One Fantasy literature in the twentieth and twenty first centuries often use the construction of new races as a mirror through which to see the human race more clearly. Categorizations of fantasy have tended to avoid discussions of race, in part because it is an uncomfortable gray area since fantasy literature does not yet have a clear taxonomy. It was not until the 1960s that audiences saw their first black character in The Falcon. In the years after that, characters of different races were few and far between. The hydrophobic anchor which holds the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of gram negative bacteria in the outer leaflet of the outer membrane is Lipid A. This component is produced within the bacterial cell cytoplasm through the Lpx biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is then transported to the outer membrane (OM) via the Lpt biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is highly conserved, essential for virulence and bacterial viability. However, the efficiency of treating bacterial infections has vastly deteriorated because of the ongoing emergence of multi drug resistant pathogens (Appendix Fig. 3 Table 1 8) (reference). Spring Walk Farm, the name of which comes from the land and the spring by which they would have to walk to get to the barn, was established just north of Nashville in the late 1800s by William Wachtel. It s now run by the father son team of Bill and Kurt, who inherited it from William s son and Bill s father, Floyd. Synchronous learning environments support learning and teaching and offer students and teachers with multiple ways of interacting, sharing, and the ability to collaborate and ask questions in real time through synchronous learning technologies. Examples of synchronous online technology types include videoconferencing, webcasts, interactive learning models, and telephone conferences (Er et al., 2009; eLearners.com, 2012). China relies too heavily on foreign influence and investment to take a risk on nationalistic or militaristic gains. While there are some pro conflict forces who have power within China, these desires will go unrealized as long as supreme leader Xi Jinping is in power. Sovereign nations have different tax rates and they tend to change with each taxyear. The issues of direct and indirect taxes are numerous and this essay will discuss two major aspects of each using the recent issue of Scotland s independence for major explanations. These are direct taxes such as Income taxand Corporation tax; indirect taxes such as Value Added Tax (VAT) and Excise tax. Income tax as defined by Melville, 2014 (page 15) is: tax assessed for a tax year (or year of assessment ) and is based on the taxpayer s total income for the year from all sources, ignoring any income which is exempt from income tax . Sovereign nations set their own taxes individually and as such taxpayers respond differently depending on the changes in tax rate in the respective tax system. The changes in income tax rate from one tax year to another affects both high and low income earners. However, in an analysis for four decades of the US tax system, it was concluded that high income earners tend to respond to a greater extent to tax changes than low income tax payers .
