One of the great ideas about the Schlieffen Plan was that the army invading France was so large
and strong. However, when Russia recovered unexpectedly in 10 days (not six weeks as the
Germans expected) the German leaders worried and many troops were transported to the Eastern
front, weakening the blow to France. By now they were very behind schedule.
The consequences were bad for the Germans. France was sending troops to the frontier at the North
and even more importantly, Britain had joined the war. They had promised to protect Belgium
(because they were worried about being attacked on their coast) and also they did not want
Germany to dominate Europe. Britain sent the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) under Sir John
French. The army of 100,000 soldiers arrived in Belgium on the 17th August. The Germans, who
had hoped the British would not join, were now forced to fight them at the Battle of Mons. The
British retreated to the French armies.
The German Armies were now moving south. The right wing was moving towards the west of

The school dismissal bell has just rung and I walk slowly towards the back of the building
towards the athletic wing. As I walk towards the trophy case, I am walking by memory because i
am distracted by my own thoughts floating through my head of all the things I need to do before
the day ends. My ends go back to focus and I find myself with the rest of my cross country team.
Today is Tuesday, and we have a meet. Tuesday is the longest day of my week. After going to
school for seven hours, I have to travel to a park to run five kilometers in a face paced
environment. I then come back nearly dusk, and finally go home where my schoolwork awaits.
After being up and going for have the day I am fine with sitting down for a few hours to

they enlisted more troops than they needed. This is when the proposed revision to the grooming
policy came up for discussion. With the new revisions tattoos won t be the only thing up for

The cross, once plain wood, is now exalted over all forest tress (91) and risen to the status of a
lord. The Dreamer is seeing for himself the validity of Christ s claims of rewarding his faithful
servants. So the Cross, it seems, is now further gift giving and reciprocating by telling the
Dreamer that he has been given a gift by Christ, who died for his sins. The Dreamer interprets
the telling of this story by the Cross as a gift, and so in return for this gift that the Cross has
given him, the Dreamer tells the story of his dream to others in order to tell the tale and let
others know of this great gift that was given to all of humanity by Christ. Its resplendence in its
appearance to the dreamer is testament to the validity of its sacrifice in going against traditional
Germanic servitude, which is important to addressing the comingling of cultures in The Dream
of the Rood. This is certainly not heroism and faithful retainership as the Anglo Saxons were used
to it, but the Dreamer s vision of the Cross in all its glory gives credence to Christ as a lord and gift
giver.
The portrayal of Christ as a warrior fighting for his people in Dream of the Rood is a very powerful
picture of a hero and savior. Christ is described here as a young hero, a warrior fighting to save
his people. Christ and the tree are drenched in blood, covered with markings, and yet they stand
strong and have courage. This is truly the mark of a hero in Anglo Saxon
