How Technology Has Changed Us
Technology has evolved rapidly in previous years, making the completion of task more
convenient. In order to effectively highlight convenience to consumers, data security must come
into consideration. The transition from swipe/PIN cards to contactless has introduced yet also
removed security issues. Swipe cards use a magnetic stripe containing the necessary banking
details, found on the back of the card. These types of swipe cards are outdated and have been
upgraded with chips, which provide better security of data through complex encryption. The
widely accepted method of two factor authentication utilises this chip as well as a PIN that the
card owner knows which strengthens the security design. Contactless cards have an embedded
RFID chip having similar functionality to those found commonly in PIN/Swipe chip cards.
These chips emit radio waves instead of requiring the user to dip/swipe their card. The card is
placed near an electromagnetic field emitted by a card reading terminal allowing the transfer of
encrypted data to authenticate the transaction. Compared to contactless cards, magnetic stripe
swipe cards can be easily exploited as the information stored on the magnetic stripe is static. This
means it can be cloned onto a fake card, giving it the same credentials and allowing unauthorised
use. The low level of security of magnetic stripe swipe cards is also highlighted by the fact that the
user merely has to sign after the transaction. Whereas the chip found in PIN

Stuyvesant Town Case
When the Native American tribe sold the island of Manhattan to Peter Minuit of the Dutch West
India for some beads and wampum whose equivalent value was less than $30 today, they would not
have had imagined that Manhattan became one of the hottest land on earth, from a real estate
market standpoint and other kinds of development standpoints as well. Lower Manhattan, also
known as downtown Manhattan, encompasses not only the famous financial district that has long
been in people s sweetest dream or darkest nightmare, but also the artsy SoHo, Battery Park City,
and one of the first public private development project Stuyvesant Town. The rise of the real estate

the living conditions at Stuy Town. Met Life planed to raise quality of life for city dwellers by
developing garden city suburbs in the city. The city wanted to improve crime area and support
private redevelopment through eminent domain. Thanks to Robert Moses, who fought internal
government battles and found common ground between Met Life and the city, the Stuyvesant

eminent domain, after which the city sold to Met Life at cost. The city also guaranteed tax

Tax Credit In Canada
In Canada, students attending university or college are entitled to a tuition, education and textbook
tax credit, which allows students or their parents to get a subtraction from their tax payable. The
objective of this policy is to support post secondary students in pursuing their higher education.
However, this method of the government in helping students to finance their post secondary
educationhas always been an issue and there are different opinions towards this taxcredit.
From the view of Canada government, Canada Revenue Agency describes this tuition, education
and textbook tax credit as a way to help students save as it reduces the amount of tax students have
to pay. In an article posted by the Conservative Party of Canada in 2015, ... Show more content on

Vertical equity means charging more tax from individuals with higher ability to pay tax. Based on
Haig Simons definitions, the ability of paying tax is dependent on the individual s ability to
consume. Students with higher income or from wealthier families have a higher consumption
ability. However, the tax credit provides the same amount of subtraction from students tax payable,
no matter if they have rich or poor. This has contradicted with the principle of letting the rich pays
more. Special treatment is needed in establishing vertical equity for this tuition, education and
textbooks tax credit. For example, (give out different tax credit to students based on their income
(?)) Despite of the vertical inequity, this tax credit achieves horizontal equity. Horizontal equity
means that individuals in the same position with the same ability pay the same amount of tax.
While everyone are offered with the same amount of tax credit, students with the same income or
similar financial situation get the same amount of tax subtraction. Thus, horizontal equity is
established in this tuition, education and textbook tax credit

The Pros And Cons Of The WPA
Drastic times called for drastic measures during the times of the Great Depression. The longest and
most severe depression had major negative effects on unemployment rates, living conditions, health,
education, families, and the overall quality of life during the time. In response to all the adversity,
the New Dealallowed one of the most ambitious agencies, the WPA, or the Works Progress
Administration, to be implemented. The WPA lead to major improvements in social and cultural
aspects, large developments for the state of Kentucky and the effects of the WPA were everlasting
and can still be seen today.
For starters, the Works Progress Administration can be considered one of the most beneficial
actions of the New Deal, due to the wide variety of jobs and opportunities that it offered. Not
only did it offer jobs, but it pushed for different parts of federal arts to be established. Public
projects allowed for millions of unskilled men, women, and children to be employed and make a
living. Projects created for mainly the men included building roads, schools, museums, community
centers, and hospitals. Women, however, were taught to use sewing machines as a form of work,
to make clothing, bedding, and supplies for hospitals and adoptions centers. A significant
component of the WPA was incorporating fine arts which allowed for creativity from writers,
painters, actors, and musicians. Overall, the main goal of the WPA was to start public building
programs in order to end the

Swot Analysis Of Braum s Incorporation
Braum s Incorporation is a vertically integrated company (owns multiple segments of industry
and merges them together) which allows them to produce their products to the quality and
standards they want. The corporation produces meat, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.
They have 280 stores located throughout Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, and the majority
located in Oklahoma, where their headquarters are (About Us 2016). The chains of stores
located in these areas provide hamburgers, ice cream, and a small grocery store for their
customers. Although Braum s provides all of these commodities they re mainly known for their
ice cream. When it comes to the production of these products and how much the company should
produce each year many factors come into play. Some of these factors include weather, taxes for
that year, wage increases, outbreaks of pests destroying crops, human error in the production
line, increased gas and diesel fuel prices, and so on. Many of these factors are random events
from nature or a new law implemented by the government that puts strict regulations on the
production of a certain product. For instance, in 2014, a major drought occurred in the Midwest
states, which resulted in low water resources and the reduction of feed for cattle produced that
year. This resulted in an increase in beef prices and the reduction of beef produced for that year
(Midwest 2014). Events like this can make or break a business and it s up to the owner of the

Relationship Between Economic Growth And Its Determinants
The relationship between economic growth and its determinants has been examined extensively.
One important issue is whether population leads to employment changes or employment leads to
population changes (do jobs follow people or people follow jobs ?). To explain this
interdependence between household residential choices and firm location choices, Carlino and
Mills (1987) initially developed a simultaneous equations model. Various studies have applied this
modeling framework to investigate the interdependence between migration and employment growth
or migration, employment growth, and income jointly determined by regional variables such as
public land policy (Duffy Deno, 1997, 1998; Eichman et al., 2010; Lewis et al., 2002, Lewis et al.,
2003; Lundgren, 2009), natural amenities (Clark and Murphy, 1996; Deller, 2001; Waltert et al.,
2011), and land development (Carruthers and Mulligan, 2007). In the Carlino Mills (1987) model,
the underlying assumption are that (1) households and firms are spatially mobile, (2) households
migrate to maximize their utility from the consumption of private goods and services and use of
non market goods (amenities), and (3) firms locate to maximize their profit whose production costs
and revenues depend on business conditions, local public services, markets, and supply of inputs.
These assumptions indicate that interdependence between employment and household income
exists because household migrate if they can obtain better income

Essay on Police in Ontario
Policing in Ontario
1. What are the different types of police forces we have in Ontario and how do they differ and how
are they the same?
In Ontario, we have three different types of police forces. They are the municipal which are the
numbered divisions within a city, provincial which is the Ontario Provincial Police, and federal
which is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Municipal police forces are established by the
municipalities and are usually in every major city. If a city has a population of approximately 50
000 100 000, then they usually contract out the policing to the RCMP such as in the case of
Burnaby and Northern Vancouver, B.C. Municipal police forces are the most common type of
policing found in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason why I strongly believe that policing in Ontario is good is because of the T.A.V.I.S.
program. The Toronto Anti Violence Intervention Strategy is a group of officers who focus on
community policing and interaction with the community. They are deployed within a
neighbourhood who are experiencing a rise in crime, and it s their job to try to figure out the root
cause of the problem by cooperating with the community. Their goals are to make
neighbourhoods safer, not by arresting more people, but by the reduction of crime. Even though
I believe policing in Ontario is good, there can obviously be changes or enhancements in order to
be more effective. First off, Ontario needs to recognize aboriginal policing as a fully fledged
police force. Not only are they more effective than regular police, they are also the preferred
policing amongst the aboriginal people themselves. One of the most important aspects the police
have to work on is community support and trust. They need to reach out and communicate with
the communities. I say this because I believe the reputation of officers is tarnished, especially
amongst any persons in priority neighbourhoods under the age of 30. In order to prove this, I went
to the Kingston/Galloway area which is one of the priority neighbourhoods. I interviewed
approximately 15 people of all different races, ages (under 30), and nationalities. Remarkably, not a

Critical Aspects Of Social Work Essay
One of the key things that stood out for me while doing this course and before has made me
realize that social work is harder than I thought it would be. There are many critical aspects of
social work that help us work with clients. One of the biggest things that have stood out for me
was that helping people is more complicated than I thought there are so many critical things in
the process that work to help others. Therefore it is not as easy as I expected it would be. The
main reasons that I wanted to do this course was because I ultimately wanted to do to help
people. I have learned that many factors come into play in the field of social work, including
levels of practice, ethics and critical reflection and self care. While I have been at university and
doing the social work course I come to realize that the levels of social work are broken down into
three different categories they are micro, mezzo and macro social work, therefore, going from the
little picture to the bigger picture stuff which relates to the system theory. Systems theory allows
the client and the social worker can create an interconnected relationship with all forms (Moore,
2009. P86). From what I have learned is that there are many roles and responsibilities and power
that a social worker has on the person they are helping. Therefore, I have discovered that a practice
framework comes from many different aspects of learning through university and all throughout our
lives. I have learned that

Many United States governmental personnel were aware that victory was assured at this point.
According to General Henry Hap Arnold, Army Air Forces commander, as stated in his 1949
Global Mission, It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were
already on the verge of collapse (Weber.) Though Japan was the first to attack the United States
that did not mean the war would follow in their favor. When the ending months of World War II
came around it had become clear which country had the greater advantage, and whom ultimately
stood on top. The resources available, damage taken, and military readiness deciding that the
United States had already won. The truth being that Japan had already lost months before
Hiroshima was attacked. The Japanese military had no way to make a comeback, and using a
nuclear weapon when this was so obviously clear is undeniably unwarranted. Due to Japan s
dwindling position in the war, turning the tides stood nearly impossible; nonetheless they
remained loyal to their Emperor in never giving up. Japanese soldiers believe that death came
before betraying their country. However, several powerful Japanese military personnel had
realized that to preserve Japan itself, surrendering was a small price to pay over annilliation. After
the Hiroshima attack on August 19, 1945, an article was published on the front page of Chicago

Measuring Urban Parks On Subjective Well Being Of Urban...
5.2. Estimation Results
We estimate five different specifications of the model presented in Section 3. Table 2 presents our
estimation results of the effect of urban parks on subjective well being of urban dwellers. In order
to check the model consistency, we only include our key variable (i.e., urban park) in the first model
as the simplest version, and then include income and socioeconomic variables in model 2 and
model 3. Because the average happiness level has changed over time, as shown in Figure 4 and
5, we include time specific fixed effects in model 4. Finally in order to account for the unobserved
characteristics at the local level, we include region specific fixed effects variables in model 5.

Housing ownership is found to be positively associated with individual subjective well being,
and people who live in an apartment are likely to be much happier than those who live in other
types of housing. Females are found to be less happy than males. In terms of marital status,
people who married are much happier than those who have never been married. People whose
education level are higher than bachelor degree are much happier than less educated people.
Finally, people who have a job are much happier than those who do not work.
However, unlike previous studies, the effect of age is negative, indicating that happiness levels
of individual person lower as people getting old. This is an inconsistent result as compared to the
previous studies arguing that life satisfaction is U shaped in age. In many advanced countries in
Europe, individual happiness level is at the lowest between a person s mid 30s and early 50s
because younger individuals have higher expectations than older adults. And then the happiness
level increases as they age because the elderly learn to adapt to their abilities and thus become
more realistic (Clark and Oswald, 1994; Landeghem, 2012). But, in the city of Seoul, happiness
level is negatively associated with age. This is probably because of increasing concerns of physical
health among older adults (Easterlin, 2006). Although further investigation with consideration of
the local contexts is

Cannabinoids Vs Synthetic Drugs
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines synthetic as made by combining different substances: not
natural. It also defines a drug as a substance recognized in an official pharmacopoeia or formulary.
(Merriam Webster dictionary 2016). Synthetic drugs have been compounded chemically to be
equivalent to marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine which can be purchased over the counter at
local convenience stores, gas stations and smoke shops. The synthetic drugs are divided into two
different categories according to their chemical makeup. The first category is known as
Cannabinoids, which is also known as K2 or Spice. The cannabinoids groups are lab manufactured

Why the Dominican Republic is in the Early Expanding Stage...
The Dominican Republic is a developing country in the early expanding stage of their
demographic transition. This means their Crude Birth Rate (CBR) is constant, their Crude Death
Rate (CDR) is decreasing exponentially, and their Rate of Natural Increase (RNI) is growing. All
of these values correspond to the number of births per 1000, number of deaths per 1000, and
populationgrowth or the (CBR CDR), is greater than zero indicating growth of population annually,
respectively. These values of the Dominican Republic and more are shown below in comparison to
the average values of the world.

These are lower than the values of those of the world by .1% for these years, respectively. These
values mean that sex education and contraception use were high and have effectively increased
since 1995. This is crucial for a developing country because much of the population in other
countries like Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon have HIV/AIDS and thus are prone to more deaths
because of it. This is because there is a large dearth in health care. As the percent of the
population, 15 49, with HIV/AIDS decreases, the CDR will decrease and hopefully increase the
population. The infant mortality rate (IMR) indicates the number of deaths for a person under
the age of 1 per 1000 live births. The Dominican Republic s IMR is 27 or 2.7%. This, in
comparison to the world average, is significantly lower. This rate is caused by lack of healthcare,
malnutrition and a low number in urban population. The more a population is urbanized, the
more access it has to proper food sources and healthcare and as a result, better off to survive.
With a lower than average IMR, the Dominican Republic is effectively keeping a low CBR and
can expect to see a decrease as more of the population transitions from rural to urban.
Life expectancy at birth is a strong indicator of the quality of life and environment one is born in.

Essay on The Fall of the Second Temple
Throughout the history of Judaism, Jewish people have faced ongoing persecution and
discrimination. Despite these conflicts, the faith remains alive, strong, and continuously growing.
Like many religions faced with adversity, Judaism has had to assimilate its faith to survive in an
ever changing world. One significant moment of change in the Jewish history, the fall of the
Second Temple, had the opportunity to destroy Judaism, but the Jewish people bonded together and
reformulated their religion in order to save their faith. The falling of the Second Temple marks a

Once a faith centered on priesthood, sacrificial rituals, communal gatherings and oral traditions,
the people of the Jewish religion decided to restructure the faith around written scripture.
Although it is argued that rabbis began work on compiling the oral histories prior to the fall of
the Second Temple, there was a marked resurgence in documentation of the important history and
moral laws of Judaism after the fall (Molloy, 291). The Jewish people felt a sense of urgency to
finish the written works. They believed the incorporation of written word into Judaism would help
to solidify their place in the religious world, as well as make the faith easier to correctly interpret
among their own vastly dispersed people (BBC, 2009).
The most important of these written documents is the Hebrew Bible. This bible is composed of the
Torah, Nevi im and Ketuvim, and these three components combine to make up the Tanakh

well as directions on daily conduct and religious rituals. The Nevi im contains the stories of
prophets. The prophets were people who spoke on behalf of God to the Jewish people. Lastly, the
Ketuvim is composed of mostly imaginative literature such as psalms, proverbs and poetry (Molloy,

The Food On Biola University Is All Provided By Bon Appetite
The food on Biola University is all provided by Bon Appetite. In the beginning, I did not know
that Bon Appetite s food was Certified Humane so I decided to show support of humane
treatment of animals by going on a vegetarian diet. Since I could not go off campus to buy
Certified Humane groceries nor could I really afford buying healthy groceries, I decided to go
vegetarian. I did the vegetarian diet for two weeks and obtained protein through nuts, beans, and
peanut butter. When I was participating in the diet, I realized how common meatwas a part of the
dishes served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was often a central part of a dish, and meat was
always served for every meal. While protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, the amount
offered is more than needed. After this exercise, I am willing to consider giving up chicken or
pork. I also definitely suggest going on a vegetarian diet for at least a week or two to experience
what it is like. I gained a broader perspective when I did this diet and learned how vegetarians got
their protein, why vegetarians did their diet, and obtained a common ground to discuss about with
vegetarians or vegans. I find that a vegetarian diet is a lot easier than a vegan diet. Perhaps one
should participate in a vegetarian diet for a week and then a vegan diet for another week. In
addition, to fully understand the purpose of such diet and effects of such diet, one should perhaps

Essay on Comparing Two Articles on Teen Binge Drinking
Comparing Two Articles on Teen Binge Drinking
The article How to Manage Teen Drinking (the smart way), written by Jeffery Kluger and the
article Getting Stupid, written by Bernie Wuethrich are both articles about teenage binge drinking.
The two articles are very similar and different at the same time, while together rhetorically
appealing to the logos. Combined they give a good background on teenage binge drinking.
Both articles have many similarities; both agree that binge drinking is a problem among
adolescents across the country. Binge drinking is defined by both articles as, five or more drinks in
a row for boys and four or more drinks in a row for girls (Wuethrich, p.58 59). Both articles agree

It was written to give suggestions on how to lower the amount of teenage binge drinking. One
solution that Middlebury College in Vermont has thought of would be to lower the drinking age.
This technique would be useful because kids would be able to drink in more open environments
and not have to hide what they are inevitably going to do. This is productive because in the open
environments, they can be monitored and if anything goes wrong a responsible person will be
there to help. This idea of an 18 year old drinking age is not too plausible because if a state were
to lower the drinking age, the federal government would take away millions of dollars in highway
funding.
The federal government has good reason to take away funding. This is because The University
of Michigan conducted a study when the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 years old, in the
early 1980 s. The study found that, The change also contributed to a 58% drop in alcohol related
deaths among 15 to 20 year olds since 1982 (Kluger, p.43).
According to Getting Stupid the reason why so many adolescent kids binge drink is because when
they are drunk, dopamine is released in the prefrontal cortex, which gives you a feeling of pleasure.
Teens want this pleasure to reoccur, so they drink again. After a long period of usage a tolerance is
built and more alcohol is needed to receive the same pleasure, which leads to binge drinking
(Wuethrich, p.62).

The Origins Of The Viking
The term Viking commonly relinquishes thoughts of ship born warriors and pillagers known as
the Norsemen, or men from the north, who originated in Scandinavia and raided the coasts of
Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe as far east as the Volga River in Russia from the late 8th to
11th century. The terminology of the Viking has also been denoted by historians as entire
populations of Viking AgeScandinavia and their settlements. Although the Norsemenare infamous
for their pillaging and plundering they were also intensely focused on establishing sufficient trade
routes throughout Europeand implementing economically sustainable villages with functional
currency. Although the barbarian invasions undoubtedly deepened the initial economic crisis and
the emergence of the barbarian kingdoms made traveling less safe which accelerated the collapse
of long distance trade. At the same time also declining the importance of the cities as cultural and
trade centers. The claim that the barbarian invasions resulted in a long tenured period of general
economic and cultural decline can be argued against with sufficient evidence. Considering the
economic crisis started much earlier and could not be reversed neither by the reforms of Diocletian
nor of Constantine. It was not until after this initial depression that the extensive trade routes of the
Norsemen were able to redefine Europe economically and culturally.
The established Norse trade network included trading relationships

recording the whole thing. The camera crew are called stringers. Stringers films car crashes, fires,
and murders, and sells that footage to TV news stations. Bloom finds his calling and gets good at
it. He gets really good at it to a point that he is committing crimes to get footage.
The purpose of local television news is to provide viewers with information about their community.

Centrust Bank Essay
CenTrust Bank Scandal
CenTrust, first called Dade Federal Savings and Loan, was founded in 1934 during the Great
Depression and eventually became a stalwart of the South Florida business establishment. By the
early 1980s, Miami had a corporate community that any city would envy. The companies were
large and growing. They contributed mightily to local causes. They virtually invented a skyline
where none existed as late as the early 1980s. CenTrust Bank and David Paul gave huge sums of
money and much effort toward founding the New World Symphony in the 1980s. But the local
corporate world was shaken badly at that time. In South Florida, home of fragile physical, social
and economic climates, big business became an endangered species. ... Show more content on

Thrifts suffered more than mutual funds, because they were clogged with battered Drexel
underwritten issues.
The episode marks the first time a financial institution has been brought down primarily because
of its involvement in the junk bond market. CenTrust reported a $119.5 million loss for its fiscal
year ended Sept. 30, 1989, after writing down a ton of junk and reserving for losses. Under thrift
rules, CenTrust needs about $130 million of equity capital but currently has an equity shortage of
$283 million.
After all this happen, CenTrust planned to sell most of its branches to raise capital and create a
separate unit to hold its junk until maturity to avoid turning accounting losses on bonds real losses.
Months later, they planned to merge with Hamilton Holding Co., but neither the sale of its branches
nor the merge gotten executed.
CenTrust Bank, the non operational Miami savings and loan that invested heavily in junk bonds,
also invested heavily in political candidates. The thrift s chairman, David Paul, also had dozens of
meetings and meals with politicians, most of them Democrats. The get togethers included a June
1988 lunch with former President Carter and seven meetings with Florida Rep. Bill Nelson, a
member of the Banking Committee.
Just how far CenTrust s fortunes had deteriorated became clear in December 1989, when the
Office of Thrift Supervision slapped a cease and desist order on the thrift, attacking its sloppy

How Does A Streetcar Named Desire Criticize The American...
In the decades after the WWI there was this concept of the American Dream that most people
tried to achieve; having a career, owning your own home, and having a lot of money. The social
norms consisted of a family with two parents and a child. Moreover, the father had to be the
breadwinner and the mother was a stay at home mom. Because of the concept of the American
Dream both Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee
s plays criticize the American ideals about
relationships and familylife.
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams criticizes the American wayof life. The story is
about Blanche who flies her hometown in Laurel, Mississippi to go and live with her sister in
New Orleans. There Blanche finds out that her live is far from perfect. One of the critical points is
the fact that there was a homosexual character that killed himself, Blanche s late husband. In this
period in time homosexuality was a taboo. Blanche was a widow because her husband committed
suicide and that is not an ideal of family life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Tennessee Williams play it is clear that Blanche is represented as a woman who wants to fit
in. She and her late husband did not fit in society and Blanche lost her way when Allan
committed suicide. Williams is trying to say that there is a whole hidden world with people who
do not fit in, and he is bringing these people forward. On the other hand there is the family of
George and Martha, who try to be the perfect family for outsiders but inside they are not so
perfect, beginning with the fact that Martha cannot have children. So they can never live up to the
dream of the perfect family. There are problems with the American Dream, and both Williams and
Albee criticize on the real families. But the difference between the plays is that Williams is
criticizing the relationships between individual persons while Albee is more focused on the idea of

In 2014, Brittany Maynard became the face for those supporting physician assisted suicide or
PAS. At 29 years old and newly married, Maynard was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and
immediately underwent a partial craniotomy and partial resection. Her tumor came back much
stronger, however, and in April she was given six months to live. Maynard s only treatment option
to slow but not stop the growth of the tumor was full brain radiation, but she opted against this
because of the unavoidable side effects of hair loss, first degree burns, and the inevitability of death.
In consideration of hospice, Maynard feared becoming resistant to morphine and losing her

As of April, 2015, forms of euthanasia and PAS have been legalized in six countries and four US
states (Marker). In North America, the only country where PAS is completely legal currently is
Canada. In a 1995 verdict made by the Canadian Senate (Boudreau and Somerville 1 12):
[t]he court ruled that laws making physician assisted death illegal violated Canadians constitutional
rights in cases where an adult clearly consents to the termination of life and has a grievous and
irremediable medical condition. (Larson)
This decision has been met with a mostly positive response, with statistics showing that more than
four out of every five of the Canadian general public approve of the decision. They attribute this to
the freedom of choice to one s body and medical care that the law modifications permit. Another
reason surrounding this response is that:
[...] it is no longer a crime to commit or attempt to commit suicide [...] why, then, is it a crime to
assist it? What is the difference between suicide and assisted suicide that justifies making the one
lawful and the other a crime, that justifies allowing some this choice, while denying it to others?

Power Relation Within The Household
power relation within the household. According to Kottegoda (2006) majority of the migrant
women practiced their control over earnings by sending part of the earnings to a bank account on
their own name to ensure that no one else can handle it.
The 16% successful return entrepreneurs who were depicted in Handapangoda (2012) survey have
been maintaining their business ventures by investing the cash savings which were initiated during
their stay in Middle East. For most migrants out of this 16%, the income earned through the
business was the only income for the family, thus the contribution served as the de facto
breadwinner role .
Improved role of decision making
Decision making power can be considered as the agency of making choices as far as
empowerment concepts considered (Kabeer, 1999). For the purpose of this study decision making
is categorised as financial decision making and non financial decision making within the house
hold level. Decisions such as house hold resource allocation and spending are financial while
decisions such as child care, domestic matters and social concerns are considered non financial.
Compared to the less influential power of decision making power before migration, 90% of
migrant women reported improved level of decision making power during their stay
(Handapangoda, 2012). This is basically related to the relatively greater financial contribution of
them to the household income. It has opened wider opportunity and agency over house hold

Four Different Market Structures

What are the four market structures and their characteristics? According to McConnell and Brue
(2004) describe four market structures that companies align themselves with during the course of
their corporate lives.: Pure Competition, Pure Monopoly, Monopolistic Competition and Oligopoly.
Companies may move from market structure to market structure over the course of growth and
time. This movement between structures may be the result of product changes, introduction of
competition or consumer interests. McConnell and Brue (2004) also states that, pure competition is
a very large number of firms producing a standardized product . This is the case with the corn ...

Many companies provide multiple services with products that are differentiated through location.
Companies like GEICO use the gecko for easy association with its brand name. The insurance
arena has easy market entry and exit and some price control. To maximize profit, insurance firms
must juggle three components of monopolistic competition; price, product, and advertising. In
specific reference to automobile liability insurance pricing systems, the risk factors that derive
price include insurer risk, regulation, geographical region, and investment returns. The rates are
comprised of fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs are relatively low because of minimal
operational expenses whereas variable costs are high because of the relatively unlimited risks. The
insurance firm is pricing for the long run equilibrium output so that price exceeds the minimum
average costs for a normal return.
An oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms sell either a standardized or differentiated
product into which entry is difficult in which the firm has limited control over product price
because of mutual interdependence (except when there is collusion among firms) and in which
there is typically non price competition (McConnell and Brue, 2004). As the formation of trusts was
restricted in the United States, the oligopoly became the most frequent big business structure. With
four or five large firms responsible for most of the output of each

Smokers in the U.K and U.S.A and the treatment of social pariahs
In recent years, antismoking campaigns has increased due to the harmful effects that are caused by
smoking. People smoke not caring about the consequences that it has not only on them, but also on
other people. In the U.K and U.S.A, campaign might or might not be effective. This essay seeks to
illustrate the cause and effect of antismoking campaigns, T.V advertising, campaigns against
smokers not being allowed N.H.S treatment, and the ban of smoking in public places and also
illustrating the reasons why similar campaigns will not be effective in Saudi Arabia. First, the
causes of antismoking campaigns and T.V advertising will be discussed. Then, the effects of these
T.V advertising and antismoking campaigns will be demonstrated. Finally, the reasons as to why
similar campaign would not be effective in Saudi Arabia will be analysed.
There are many reasons as to why antismoking campaigns and T.V advertising are growing and
expanding worldwide. Smoking does not only affect health, but also affects the environment and
non smokers. The first cause is health. Many individuals smoke not caring about the harm and
dangers that it might do to them. Some argue that they are physically addicted to smoking and
others are just ignorant about the whole thing. Smoking can cause harm to a person s body. It can
cause fatigue and worsen activities which acquire walking, jogging, and other physical activities.

While she clearly positions her research approach within the wider framework of the field, she fails
to mention the Global Leadership and Organizational Behaviour Effectiveness Research Project

approach differs from her ethnographic study and takes on the positivist stance she is arguing

organizational processes in multinational work teams.
Research Approach
Using the term discourse as coined by Foucault (1980), Barinaga explores in depth how team

members individually and collected all documents produced by or passed around in the group.

My Fair Lady Dimed Analysis
My Fair Lady and Nickeled and Dimed are both great novels focusing in on wealth and money.
While these books are unique in their own different ways, they are basically the opposites of one
another! My Fair Lady focusing on the young and witty Eliza Doolittle who is brought up into a
high class lady. While in Nickeled and Dimed, Barbara is leaving her high class paying job and
moving down into a low class minimum wage paying job. It is very interesting to see how these
two books are so similar but have two drastically different situations. Furthermore, I believe that
people should respect each class more, we should not scrutinize others based on their education
or income level. These novels really look into what it is like to be in another person s shoes, and
I honestly feel that in the end of both novels, each character had gone on their own journey and
in the end had more respect and outlook on the class system. Beginning with My Fair Lady, the
plot is set in London, in the late Edwardian era. Eliza Doolittle is a young girl lacking a formal
education, shadowed from the high class system. She is then taken in by Henry Higgins, a
professor who is highly educated but tends to strive away from the typical class act, making him

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Horror Stories
A key element in horror stories is foreshadowing. Foreshadowing will make readers want to read
more and it will also create suspense. Foreshadowing is nearly same in horror stories.
Foreshadowing in horror stories such as THE LANDLADY , THE MONKEY S PAW and THE
TELL TALE HEARTS and The Hitchhiker are very important and creates suspense
for the readers
which makes the readers want to read more. The Landlady is mystery story written by Roald Dahl
and incorporates lots of foreshadowing. The first foreshadowing I found was when Bill pressed
the doorbell and in a second, the Landlady popped out of the door according to the Landlady text,
lines 113 118. This seems weird because normally you have to wait half minute before the door
opens (lines 119 120) but this seems like she is waiting next to door so someone would show up.
Next, one foreshadowing you may have missed was when the Landlady interrupted what Billy was

The Character Of Shoreditch
A dynamic and creating kaleidoscope of ability and innovativeness, it s practically difficult to
discover a spot that matches the character of Shoreditch. Arranged in the East End of London
toward the north of the City of London, this internal city locale is genuinely the epicentre of
workmanship, creative energy and yes, hipsterism.
Creative History
Quite a long time ago characterized as forlorn and unpleasant , Shoreditch has developed a wide
margin in the course of recent years. Prior to the 1990s, it had excessively numerous distribution
centres and not very many individuals. This was the point at which any semblance of artists such
as Alexander McQueen, Tracey Emin and Gary Hume kicked pulled in and off working here. With
various occasions and displays occurring, the range further pulled in designers, movie producers
and others. Before long, this ruined and purge region got changed into a masterful society with ...

Impact of Dividend Policy on Companies’ Performance
IMPACT OF DIVIDEND POLICY ON COMPANIES PERFORMANCE: EVIDENCE FROM
PUBLIC LISTED COMPANIES IN MALAYSIA
1.0
INTRODUCTION
Dividend policy is the regulations and guidelines that a company uses to decide to make dividend
payments to shareholders. Dividends are payments made to stockholders from a firm s earnings,
whether those earnings were generated in the current period or in previous periods. When a
company makes a profit, they must decide on what to do with those profits. They could continue to
retain the profits within the company, or they could pay out the profits to the owners of the firm in
the form of dividends. Once the company decides on whether to pay dividends, they may establish a
dividend structure, which may in turn impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Malaysia, there is no standard policy or procedure governing dividend payments. But the

that No dividend shall be payable to the shareholders of any company except out of profits or

dividends for a specific financial business year. In other words, 2
the Act requires that dividends of a company can only be distributed from the profits of the

Julianna Alternate Ending
Julianna, a happy and energetic four year old girl went to play at her beautiful garden one sunny
day. Julianna loved to run through the colorful flowers and chase butterflies. But that morning,
there was something very different in the garden! As Julianna ran, hopped and skipped across
the flower beds, she saw something huge and purple at the very back of the garden. What is
that! she exclaimed with surprise. She stopped running and tip toed to the huge purple blub. It
was as big as a whale. No, wait, it was a whale! Julianna s eyes got round like a full moon. She
stopped next to the huge whale thing and lightly poked it with a finger. Its skin was smooth and
leathery, like that of the whales she d heard about in stories. She walked in circles... Show more

miniature rose plant. Julianna laughed so hard that she fell off Hugo s back. She was sure her
mom would never believe her brother s crazy story. She and Hugo kept on playing. She forgot all
about her brother when, suddenly, she heard her mom call out her name. Oh no, Julianna
whimpered. Mom was looking for her. She and Hugo were going to be in big trouble. Julianna
looked for a place to hide Hugo. Spotting the huge bed sheets drying in the sun, she pulled one
off and draped it over Hugo. Stay here and be quiet. She whispered to him, then ran to meet her
mother. At that moment, a butterfly landed on Hugo s nose. The fluttering wings made Hugo
sneeze loudly. What was that? Mom wondered as the huge gust of wind blew her hair and dress

The Issue Of Saudi Arabia Essay
Saudi Arabia earns around $360bn annually net exports; this is at $115 per barrel (The
Economist,2014) This will be half if the price remains at $60 per barrel. The budget is now at
the red line, and this is a catastrophe, since it will be decades to revive from such economic
mess. In the short run, there will be no big deal, the country may go deep in the pocket to
finance its budget, while in the medium term, it will hurt the economy, leading to less
expenditures. This may not go well with the outlook of the citizens. Long term effect may be
taxation, and less expenditure. The expenditure may be cut down as it was in mid 1980s, and
this will be a draconian austerity to face. The exorbitant political patronage as it has been in the
Sunni world will face rough times to prop up the likes of Egypt. The only item that still holds
them together in this medieval regime may be the social spending, but still there is terrorist
attacks and Yemen invasion, reported by Forbes (2015). The current reserves may go down by
close or more than $200bn in the year 2018, and this will cause capital flight. The current trap is
hard and dealing with Russia alone to cut on the output alone will bring more shale production in
the years to come.
The resilience of Saudi Arabia to cut back the output of oil led to more supply in the market,
leading to low prices. This can be seen as an agenda in long term basis (INSS, 2015). They are
prepared more than enough to deplete their reserves, while in the

My Personal Goals In Life, And The Purpose Of Life
Purpose Paper In life, purpose helps drive your passions in life and take you wherever you may
want to go. Everyone has their purposes that guide them and keep the light at the end of the
tunnel lit. There are many different purposes that can hold a place in your life s journey such as
academic, career, and personal purposes. My overall purpose in life is to be able to have a life that
I am proud of and to have a life that I did not simply settle for. In my career, I hope to be a

An obstacle that may slow me down from achieving my personal goal is pressure from those
around me and society that may attempt to convince me that I am not able to do everything that I
want and that my goals are unrealistic. To overcome this challenge I need to remain resilient in all
situations despite what others will say to me. I will also need to keep my goals close to my
heart in order to always be reminded of what it is I am working towards when I am being
discouraged. In my academic life I wish to always be a student in all situations. To be a student
in all situations means to me to always be eager to learn from experiences and in the classroom.
Often there is always a want to not be simply a student in the classroom but it is important to
always want to earn and ask questions and to actively seek information. This is important to me
because there have been many instances where I have not been the student in the classroom. It
is important for me to step back and learn simply because I want to learn and not to earn a grade
or a nice career. In my assessment one of my strengths was input and input is the want for more
information constantly. This is an essential trait to have as a student to always want to learn more
and to retain knowledge. An obstacle that may arise well working towards this goal for me may
be losing motivation to learn and being pressured to learn towards a final exam. To get past this I
may need to step back and

Virtue Ethics In Hockey
Hockey is not only a sport of power with filigree technique of puck handling and speed skating, but
it also differs by violence and countless injuries caused by meaningless fights. Ethicists increasingly
shown their concern wondering if hockey fights are legitimate from the point of morality. Fights
are taking place even if the fans are upset by the playersgame and effort; in this way, the
inescapable question of whether fighting in hockey is really a major component of being named
an ethical hockey competitor emerges. How does fighting fit in with the desires of a hockey
players by expert, universal, and group measures? Are the players truly expected to fight, both
ethically, and legitimately, inside a hockey players code of morals? Do we need to abrogate the
fighting from all levels of sport? Utilizing moral hypothesis, this article is to address these inquiries.
Virtue Ethics in Fighting Virtues and vices are qualities of character that are shown through
ongoing activity . The previous are attractive, while the last are certainly not. A virtue can be
characterized as a mean along a continuum of contradicting character qualities and vices as the polar
opposing characteristics in themselves. For instance, the virtue of valor might be found between
the vices of rashness and weakness. Edmund Pincoffs has recommended ... Show more content on

instance, Don Cherry has contended that one of the reason for a fight could be a protecting of a

two vital points: (1) Sometimes the reason for a fight could be a revenge, or an intimidating the
opponents. (2) There would be no compelling reason to act bravely as to fighting if there were no
fight in any case. Summarizing that, fights must be

Tacos
Mexican Cookery, an often crisply fried tortilla folded over and filled, as with seasoned chopped
meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. In Spanish the word is used to describe a light snack.
This definition does not come close to describing the culinary delight we call the taco. The taco is
a symbol of Mexican food and is one of its most popular and well known forms.
Corn has been used as a food source for the indigenous people of the Mexicas since 3000 BC. The
Aztecs made flat bread out of it and called it tlaxcalli. The Aztecs ate tlaxcalli stuffed with various
concoctions of food and thus the taco was born. These concoctions would vary depending on the
region. Anthropologists in the lake region of Mexico have found evidence of tacos ... Show more

* TACOrific for you unexpected guests.
Probably the most common among Mexican foods is the Taco. It is a corn or wheat tortilla folded or
rolled around a filling. The filling may include beef, mutton or shellfish and often has salsa,
vegetables and cheeses for added variety. A Taco is usually eaten using bare hands.
The dish was served early on by the Aztecs and only the Spanish gave its name which actually
means light snack . It used to be that the Mexican women served this as a practical way of serving
comida to husbands and guests.
The taco as we know it today is the result of an evolution from the simple tortilla filled with meat.
It gained popularity that it has become the most known and well loved Mexican food of all time.
Tacos can either have soft shells or hard shells, both have fillings of meat (or beans), vegetables
and cheese. Soft shell tacos are the not crunchy ones flexible and moldable. A soft shell taco can
retain freshness even when in travel; only it can get soggy because of the salsa filling. It can be
eaten with hands with less spillage, as long as it is not overfilled. A hard shell taco is the one
which has that crunchy u shaped tortilla. The shell may break so easily so it is best to consume it
once prepared.
Here is a recipe of the breakfast tacos, more popularly known as the PUFFY TACO which
originated from San Antonio, Texas. The following are the ingredients: 1 cup Hash Brown Potato
mix with Onion
* 2 cup hot Water

Proposal For Behavior Change Plan
Benchmark Proposal for Behavior Change Plan Howard is an 11 year old student in the sixth
grade that has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Grand Canyon University, 2014). He also
may have a learning disability, based on his academic struggles in the areas of math and reading
(2014). Howard exhibits off task and task avoidance behaviors when faced with a math assignment
(2014). This paper will suggest steps to address and change these behaviors, possible motivational,
instructional, and safety interventions that should be utilized to support Howard, and reinforcement
techniques that will encourage and motivate positive behavior. Steps for Behavior Change The first
step to making behavior changes is identifying the behavior and understanding possible reasons
why the behavior is being produced (Wright, 2013). Recognizing that Howard exhibits the
described undesirable behaviors during math, a class in which he is struggling to understand the
material, is a huge red flag that may indicate that Howard is avoiding his assignments, because he
does not understand how to do them. Also, it is important to realize that off task behavior and
distraction are common symptom of ADHD (National Institute of Mental Health, n.d.). So,
technically, each concerning behavior can be attributed to Howard s disability (Grand Canyon
University, 2014). With this knowledge, Howard should be assessed academically to determine
whether or not he requires support from the special education

Father and Son Relationship in William Shakespeare s...
Father and Son Relationship in William Shakespeare s Henry IV and V
Shakespeare deals with a parent child relationship in the historical plays of Henry IV Parts One
and Two in the characters of Henry Bullingsworth (Henry IV) and his son Hal (Prince of Wales,
later Henry V). The fact stands clear in the development of the son, Hal: the son s success in life is
not dependent on his relationship to his father politically, but success is demonstrated when there
is a realization of both parties on the level of parental love. Hal is not living up to his name, but
also to blame in his father s failure to love. Our discussion is based solely on the text itself, based
primarily on three main dialogues between Hal and his father. ... Show more content on

(I Hen. IV iii, ii 18,19, 26 28). Hal s response shows the formality of the relationship with his
father. This is where the fact of the shared responsibility of Hal s condition comes to life. The
fact of the father s background helps us to realize that the King got where he is by sacrificing a
few things, one of them his relationship with is older son. And perhaps it may be stated tritely:
like father, like son. Hal is coping with not having a father figure, and acting perhaps as his father
would. Perhaps this initial confrontation could be a Cat in the Cradle theme, where the father
suddenly realizes that his boy is just like me, my boy is just like me .
The father responds God pardon thee! in the continuing awkwardness of the situation. The king
promotes the informalness to the talk. He lists specific failures that he sees in Hal s life and
reactions to the situation. They include: losing his place in the Council to his younger brother
(32,33), alienating himself from the rest of the family (33,34), losing the respect and hope of the
people for a good successor to the throne (36 38), and making a mockery of all the king worked for
(46 84). Then the kicker by the frustrated father:
And in that very line, Harry standest thou,/For thou hast lost they princely privilege/With vile
participation. Not an eye/But is a weary of they common sight,/Save mine, which hath desir d to see
thee more,/
Which now doth

A source, written by Greve and Schmitt, studied two children that were both diagnosed with spastic

These authors are credible because they work in the Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center
as physical therapists and occupational therapists. The article holds authority in that it was
published in the peer reviewed journal Pediatric Physical Therapy. The introduction discusses the
idea that intensive bursts of therapy are more effective than, for example, lower intensity therapy
over a long period of time (Bailes, Greve, Schmitt, 2010). Authors Bailes, Greve, and Schmitt write,

their results were measured using criteria specific to their needs. Different health professionals

observation and conclusions drawn were based on multiple opinions. These factors cause the

How Is Sound Design Used In The Movie Gravity
I never had seen the movie Gravity, although I have seen the trailer back then. For some reason,
films like this always get me a little bit sad, just as the movie Interstellar (for those of you who

sound design used in the movie. The image and the sound definitely complement each other. In the
beginning of the movie, just as a general knowledge, we are aware that the sounds used are
somewhat real because of the usual sound used that we already knew what it sounds like. For
example, the sound of Dr. Stone talking on the microphone, the sound of the disorienting space

The Spiritual Warfare Movement
The Spiritual warfare Movement is a movement that intensely focuses on the movements of the
Holy Spirit in evangelistic and spiritual warfare. Pentecostal in nature, their focus is not on the
physical war which is seen, but the spiritual war, which is unseen. It is written, For our struggle
is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of
this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (NIV, Ephesians
6:12). Dan Jorgenson writes, Third wave approaches draw on a series of theological and practical
innovations prominently associated with evangelists such as C. Peer Wagner, John Wimber, Benny
Hinn, George Otis, and John Dawson). Wagner coined the term Third Wave as a shorthand
designation for a Spirit based movement that succeeded earlier Pentecostal forms (Wagner
1988:15). A great deal of this movement began in the 1980 s and has proliferated since this time.
Before it were two other Pentecostal and Charismatic waves. While many of this movements
aficionados seek to separate their persons from the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements to

History Of Social Norms
Social norms have been shaping the way people interact throughout history. While norms could be
seen as something that confides behavior, it also maintains social order allowing certain
behaviors to be accepted or to be evaded. The way people respond to a situation depends on the
person s normative beliefs or what they believe society should act.
A normative belief is a person or a group of people believe what behavior is appropriate and
inappropriate in a given social context. However, George C. Homans stated: Norms are just shared
beliefs; they are not the behavior itself, but what people think behavior ought to be (Standford). A
person may see one behavior completely outlandish while the person acting out sees it as something
normal.

Hirohito s Japanese Surrender Essay
Hirohito and The Japanese Surrender
The world was hectic in the 20th century. The first plane was flown, World War I took place
(1914 1918), communists took over Russia and China (1917), penicillin was discovered (1928),
the U.S. stock market crashed (1929), and the DNA s structure was discovered (. However, on the
eastern side of the world, the most notable occurrences were probably Hitler s rise as chancellor
and his launching of the Kristallnacht, the German invasion of Poland, Japan s bombing of Pearl

When Hirohito was twenty years old, he was the first Japanese Prince to travel to Europe. Years
later, as an adult, he became Japan s 124th Emperor, succeeding his father, Emperor Taisho, who
died in 1926. His involvement in Japan s development during his nineteen years of reign was
enormous. He invaded Manchuria, to Japan s benefit (1931), supported the war against China
(1937 1945), and during World War II, formed alliances with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy,
forming the Rome Berlin Tokyo Axis. Emperor Hirohito was a man of kind emotions, of good
intentions, and whose interest was always in the benefits of his people. Having agreed to join
the terrorizing war, Japan suffered a great deal. Its economy shattered the country s wealth
dropped drastically, its citizens were losing hope and confidence, and its military department
was in a tough position and was starting to weaken helplessly. Hirohito decided that the
paramount decision he could possibly take was to surrender Japan. He could no longer bear to
see his people suffer and fight in the war, and thus showed he cared about them by ending their
side of the war. As Hirohito spoke about the war and its effect on his people, he said: I made
efforts to swallow tears and to protect the species of the Japanese nation . He cared deeply about
the pain his people were going through, and made it his foremost priority to end it. When Hirohito

  • 2. How Technology Has Changed Us Technology has evolved rapidly in previous years, making the completion of task more convenient. In order to effectively highlight convenience to consumers, data security must come into consideration. The transition from swipe/PIN cards to contactless has introduced yet also removed security issues. Swipe cards use a magnetic stripe containing the necessary banking details, found on the back of the card. These types of swipe cards are outdated and have been upgraded with chips, which provide better security of data through complex encryption. The widely accepted method of two factor authentication utilises this chip as well as a PIN that the card owner knows which strengthens the security design. Contactless cards have an embedded RFID chip having similar functionality to those found commonly in PIN/Swipe chip cards. These chips emit radio waves instead of requiring the user to dip/swipe their card. The card is placed near an electromagnetic field emitted by a card reading terminal allowing the transfer of encrypted data to authenticate the transaction. Compared to contactless cards, magnetic stripe swipe cards can be easily exploited as the information stored on the magnetic stripe is static. This means it can be cloned onto a fake card, giving it the same credentials and allowing unauthorised use. The low level of security of magnetic stripe swipe cards is also highlighted by the fact that the user merely has to sign after the transaction. Whereas the chip found in PIN ... • 4. Stuyvesant Town Case When the Native American tribe sold the island of Manhattan to Peter Minuit of the Dutch West India for some beads and wampum whose equivalent value was less than $30 today, they would not have had imagined that Manhattan became one of the hottest land on earth, from a real estate market standpoint and other kinds of development standpoints as well. Lower Manhattan, also known as downtown Manhattan, encompasses not only the famous financial district that has long been in people s sweetest dream or darkest nightmare, but also the artsy SoHo, Battery Park City, and one of the first public private development project Stuyvesant Town. The rise of the real estate market could be accounted for by a wealth of factors, including population growth,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Census declared it Class D rating, guaranteeing it would get very little support from banks for mortgages (Zipp, 2010). Met Life, an insurance company that was the largest corporation in the U.S. in the early 1940s, saw the opportunity to improve their overall economic profit by enriching the living conditions at Stuy Town. Met Life planed to raise quality of life for city dwellers by developing garden city suburbs in the city. The city wanted to improve crime area and support private redevelopment through eminent domain. Thanks to Robert Moses, who fought internal government battles and found common ground between Met Life and the city, the Stuyvesant Town redevelopment project was finally implemented. Moses worked with Frederick Ecker of Met Life to buy all private land through Met Life, and then the city bought all remaining land using eminent domain, after which the city sold to Met Life at cost. • 5. Tax Credit In Canada In Canada, students attending university or college are entitled to a tuition, education and textbook tax credit, which allows students or their parents to get a subtraction from their tax payable. The objective of this policy is to support post secondary students in pursuing their higher education. However, this method of the government in helping students to finance their post secondary educationhas always been an issue and there are different opinions towards this taxcredit. From the view of Canada government, Canada Revenue Agency describes this tuition, education and textbook tax credit as a way to help students save as it reduces the amount of tax students have to pay. In an article posted by the Conservative Party of Canada in 2015, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vertical equity means charging more tax from individuals with higher ability to pay tax. Based on Haig Simons definitions, the ability of paying tax is dependent on the individual s ability to consume. Students with higher income or from wealthier families have a higher consumption ability. However, the tax credit provides the same amount of subtraction from students tax payable, no matter if they have rich or poor. This has contradicted with the principle of letting the rich pays more. Special treatment is needed in establishing vertical equity for this tuition, education and textbooks tax credit. For example, (give out different tax credit to students based on their income (?)) Despite of the vertical inequity, this tax credit achieves horizontal equity. Horizontal equity means that individuals in the same position with the same ability pay the same amount of tax. While everyone are offered with the same amount of tax credit, students with the same income or similar financial situation get the same amount of tax subtraction. Thus, horizontal equity is established in this tuition, education and textbook tax credit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Pros And Cons Of The WPA Drastic times called for drastic measures during the times of the Great Depression. The longest and most severe depression had major negative effects on unemployment rates, living conditions, health, education, families, and the overall quality of life during the time. In response to all the adversity, the New Dealallowed one of the most ambitious agencies, the WPA, or the Works Progress Administration, to be implemented. The WPA lead to major improvements in social and cultural aspects, large developments for the state of Kentucky and the effects of the WPA were everlasting and can still be seen today. For starters, the Works Progress Administration can be considered one of the most beneficial actions of the New Deal, due to the wide variety of jobs and opportunities that it offered. Not only did it offer jobs, but it pushed for different parts of federal arts to be established. Public projects allowed for millions of unskilled men, women, and children to be employed and make a living. Projects created for mainly the men included building roads, schools, museums, community centers, and hospitals. Women, however, were taught to use sewing machines as a form of work, to make clothing, bedding, and supplies for hospitals and adoptions centers. A significant component of the WPA was incorporating fine arts which allowed for creativity from writers, painters, actors, and musicians. Overall, the main goal of the WPA was to start public building programs in order to end the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Swot Analysis Of Braum s Incorporation Braum s Incorporation is a vertically integrated company (owns multiple segments of industry and merges them together) which allows them to produce their products to the quality and standards they want. The corporation produces meat, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. They have 280 stores located throughout Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, and the majority located in Oklahoma, where their headquarters are (About Us 2016). The chains of stores located in these areas provide hamburgers, ice cream, and a small grocery store for their customers. Although Braum s provides all of these commodities they re mainly known for their ice cream. When it comes to the production of these products and how much the company should produce each year many factors come into play. Some of these factors include weather, taxes for that year, wage increases, outbreaks of pests destroying crops, human error in the production line, increased gas and diesel fuel prices, and so on. Many of these factors are random events from nature or a new law implemented by the government that puts strict regulations on the production of a certain product. For instance, in 2014, a major drought occurred in the Midwest states, which resulted in low water resources and the reduction of feed for cattle produced that year. This resulted in an increase in beef prices and the reduction of beef produced for that year (Midwest 2014). Events like this can make or break a business and it s up to the owner of the ... • 8. Relationship Between Economic Growth And Its Determinants The relationship between economic growth and its determinants has been examined extensively. One important issue is whether population leads to employment changes or employment leads to population changes (do jobs follow people or people follow jobs ?). To explain this interdependence between household residential choices and firm location choices, Carlino and Mills (1987) initially developed a simultaneous equations model. Various studies have applied this modeling framework to investigate the interdependence between migration and employment growth or migration, employment growth, and income jointly determined by regional variables such as public land policy (Duffy Deno, 1997, 1998; Eichman et al., 2010; Lewis et al., 2002, Lewis et al., 2003; Lundgren, 2009), natural amenities (Clark and Murphy, 1996; Deller, 2001; Waltert et al., 2011), and land development (Carruthers and Mulligan, 2007). In the Carlino Mills (1987) model, the underlying assumption are that (1) households and firms are spatially mobile, (2) households migrate to maximize their utility from the consumption of private goods and services and use of non market goods (amenities), and (3) firms locate to maximize their profit whose production costs and revenues depend on business conditions, local public services, markets, and supply of inputs. These assumptions indicate that interdependence between employment and household income exists because household migrate if they can obtain better income ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay on Police in Ontario Policing in Ontario 1. What are the different types of police forces we have in Ontario and how do they differ and how are they the same? In Ontario, we have three different types of police forces. They are the municipal which are the numbered divisions within a city, provincial which is the Ontario Provincial Police, and federal which is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Municipal police forces are established by the municipalities and are usually in every major city. If a city has a population of approximately 50 000 100 000, then they usually contract out the policing to the RCMP such as in the case of Burnaby and Northern Vancouver, B.C. Municipal police forces are the most common type of policing found in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason why I strongly believe that policing in Ontario is good is because of the T.A.V.I.S. program. The Toronto Anti Violence Intervention Strategy is a group of officers who focus on community policing and interaction with the community. They are deployed within a neighbourhood who are experiencing a rise in crime, and it s their job to try to figure out the root cause of the problem by cooperating with the community. Their goals are to make neighbourhoods safer, not by arresting more people, but by the reduction of crime. Even though I believe policing in Ontario is good, there can obviously be changes or enhancements in order to be more effective. First off, Ontario needs to recognize aboriginal policing as a fully fledged police force. Not only are they more effective than regular police, they are also the preferred policing amongst the aboriginal people themselves. One of the most important aspects the police have to work on is community support and trust. They need to reach out and communicate with the communities. I say this because I believe the reputation of officers is tarnished, especially amongst any persons in priority neighbourhoods under the age of 30. In order to prove this, I went to the Kingston/Galloway area which is one of the priority neighbourhoods. I interviewed approximately 15 people of all different races, ages (under 30), and nationalities. Remarkably, not a single person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Critical Aspects Of Social Work Essay One of the key things that stood out for me while doing this course and before has made me realize that social work is harder than I thought it would be. There are many critical aspects of social work that help us work with clients. One of the biggest things that have stood out for me was that helping people is more complicated than I thought there are so many critical things in the process that work to help others. Therefore it is not as easy as I expected it would be. The main reasons that I wanted to do this course was because I ultimately wanted to do to help people. I have learned that many factors come into play in the field of social work, including levels of practice, ethics and critical reflection and self care. While I have been at university and doing the social work course I come to realize that the levels of social work are broken down into three different categories they are micro, mezzo and macro social work, therefore, going from the little picture to the bigger picture stuff which relates to the system theory. Systems theory allows the client and the social worker can create an interconnected relationship with all forms (Moore, 2009. P86). From what I have learned is that there are many roles and responsibilities and power that a social worker has on the person they are helping. Therefore, I have discovered that a practice framework comes from many different aspects of learning through university and all throughout our lives. I have learned that ... I honestly have the feeling or groping for words to explain this or I might say my God, what have we done? written by Captain Robert Lewis, co pilot of Enola Gay over Hiroshima, Japan, presently after 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. The too large gust of wind, and the looming mushroom cloud rising over the blackened city were all vaguely mentioned in his captain s log. A small sketch of the first ever nuclear warfare attack can be found hastily scribbled on the back of Lewis s log that was later stowed away, the sight destined to plague his mind in the years to follow. Many United States governmental personnel were aware that victory was assured at this point. According to General Henry Hap Arnold, Army Air Forces commander, as stated in his 1949 Global Mission, It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were already on the verge of collapse (Weber.) Though Japan was the first to attack the United States that did not mean the war would follow in their favor. When the ending months of World War II came around it had become clear which country had the greater advantage, and whom ultimately stood on top. The resources available, damage taken, and military readiness deciding that the United States had already won. The truth being that Japan had already lost months before Hiroshima was attacked. The Japanese military had no way to make a comeback, and using a nuclear weapon when this was so obviously clear is undeniably unwarranted. Due to Japan s dwindling position in the war, turning the tides stood nearly impossible; nonetheless they remained loyal to their Emperor in never giving up. Japanese soldiers believe that death came before betraying their country. However, several powerful Japanese military personnel had realized that to preserve Japan itself, surrendering was a small price to pay over annilliation. Table 2 presents our estimation results of the effect of urban parks on subjective well being of urban dwellers. In order to check the model consistency, we only include our key variable (i.e., urban park) in the first model as the simplest version, and then include income and socioeconomic variables in model 2 and model 3. Because the average happiness level has changed over time, as shown in Figure 4 and 5, we include time specific fixed effects in model 4. People whose education level are higher than bachelor degree are much happier than less educated people. Finally, people who have a job are much happier than those who do not work. However, unlike previous studies, the effect of age is negative, indicating that happiness levels of individual person lower as people getting old. This is an inconsistent result as compared to the previous studies arguing that life satisfaction is U shaped in age. In many advanced countries in Europe, individual happiness level is at the lowest between a person s mid 30s and early 50s because younger individuals have higher expectations than older adults. And then the happiness level increases as they age because the elderly learn to adapt to their abilities and thus become more realistic (Clark and Oswald, 1994; Landeghem, 2012). But, in the city of Seoul, happiness level is negatively associated with age. This is probably because of increasing concerns of physical health among older adults (Easterlin, 2006). These are lower than the values of those of the world by .1% for these years, respectively. These values mean that sex education and contraception use were high and have effectively increased since 1995. This is crucial for a developing country because much of the population in other countries like Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon have HIV/AIDS and thus are prone to more deaths because of it. This is because there is a large dearth in health care. As the percent of the population, 15 49, with HIV/AIDS decreases, the CDR will decrease and hopefully increase the population. The infant mortality rate (IMR) indicates the number of deaths for a person under the age of 1 per 1000 live births. The Dominican Republic s IMR is 27 or 2.7%. This, in comparison to the world average, is significantly lower. This rate is caused by lack of healthcare, malnutrition and a low number in urban population. The more a population is urbanized, the more access it has to proper food sources and healthcare and as a result, better off to survive. With a lower than average IMR, the Dominican Republic is effectively keeping a low CBR and can expect to see a decrease as more of the population transitions from rural to urban. Once a faith centered on priesthood, sacrificial rituals, communal gatherings and oral traditions, the people of the Jewish religion decided to restructure the faith around written scripture. Although it is argued that rabbis began work on compiling the oral histories prior to the fall of the Second Temple, there was a marked resurgence in documentation of the important history and moral laws of Judaism after the fall (Molloy, 291). The Jewish people felt a sense of urgency to finish the written works. One solution that Middlebury College in Vermont has thought of would be to lower the drinking age. This technique would be useful because kids would be able to drink in more open environments and not have to hide what they are inevitably going to do. This is productive because in the open environments, they can be monitored and if anything goes wrong a responsible person will be there to help. This idea of an 18 year old drinking age is not too plausible because if a state were to lower the drinking age, the federal government would take away millions of dollars in highway funding. The federal government has good reason to take away funding. This is because The University of Michigan conducted a study when the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 years old, in the early 1980 s. The study found that, The change also contributed to a 58% drop in alcohol related deaths among 15 to 20 year olds since 1982 (Kluger, p.43). According to Getting Stupid the reason why so many adolescent kids binge drink is because when they are drunk, dopamine is released in the prefrontal cortex, which gives you a feeling of pleasure. Teens want this pleasure to reoccur, so they drink again. After a long period of usage a tolerance is built and more alcohol is needed to receive the same pleasure, which leads to binge drinking (Wuethrich, p.62). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then follows a critical description of the international team she followed, her chosen method of observation and the findings she presents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research Approach Using the term discourse as coined by Foucault (1980), Barinaga explores in depth how team members make sense of their daily group life by way of their discourse on cultural diversity . To gain insight into the actors construction of themselves and others (Baszanger Dodier, 1997, in Barinaga, 2007), she therefore chose ethnographic research methods to collect a comprehensive body of qualitative data on one work team with members from five different countries. Howard exhibits off task and task avoidance behaviors when faced with a math assignment (2014). This paper will suggest steps to address and change these behaviors, possible motivational, instructional, and safety interventions that should be utilized to support Howard, and reinforcement techniques that will encourage and motivate positive behavior. Recognizing that Howard exhibits the described undesirable behaviors during math, a class in which he is struggling to understand the material, is a huge red flag that may indicate that Howard is avoiding his assignments, because he does not understand how to do them. The fact stands clear in the development of the son, Hal: the son s success in life is not dependent on his relationship to his father politically, but success is demonstrated when there is a realization of both parties on the level of parental love. The fact of the father s background helps us to realize that the King got where he is by sacrificing a few things, one of them his relationship with is older son. And perhaps it may be stated tritely: like father, like son. Hal is coping with not having a father figure, and acting perhaps as his father would. Perhaps this initial confrontation could be a Cat in the Cradle theme, where the father suddenly realizes that his boy is just like me, my boy is just like me . The father responds God pardon thee! in the continuing awkwardness of the situation. The king promotes the informalness to the talk. He lists specific failures that he sees in Hal s life and reactions to the situation. • 50. Physical Therapy Summary A source, written by Greve and Schmitt, studied two children that were both diagnosed with spastic diplegia, and during there therapy session, the participants were instructed a set of goals to work toward. To begin, the introduction discussed what issues children with cerebral palsy struggle with. These authors are credible because they work in the Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center as physical therapists and occupational therapists. The article holds authority in that it was published in the peer reviewed journal Pediatric Physical Therapy. The introduction discusses the idea that intensive bursts of therapy are more effective than, for example, lower intensity therapy over a long period of time (Bailes, Greve, Schmitt, 2010). Authors Bailes, Greve, and Schmitt write, One such program, the Therasuit Method, is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After observation, it was determined that each child showed some improvement in some areas, but the children also showed declines in some areas (Bailes, Greve, Schmitt, 2010). Basically, it was determined that more studies must be performed to determine the exact results suit therapy has on children with cerebral palsy and spastic diplegia. This article appears unbiased; the children were chosen randomly based on specific criteria (spastic diplegia and cerebral palsy diagnosis), and their results were measured using criteria specific to their needs. Different health professionals observed the participants, including physical therapy and occupational therapy, which means, observation and conclusions drawn were based on multiple opinions. These factors cause the article to seem credible and show no bias. A year after this study was published another study was conducted that increased the sample size so the results of suit therapy intervention are more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. How Is Sound Design Used In The Movie Gravity I never had seen the movie Gravity, although I have seen the trailer back then. For some reason, films like this always get me a little bit sad, just as the movie Interstellar (for those of you who have seen the movie Interstellar, you know it is sad). On the other hand, I am very fond of the sound design used in the movie. The image and the sound definitely complement each other. In the beginning of the movie, just as a general knowledge, we are aware that the sounds used are somewhat real because of the usual sound used that we already knew what it sounds like. For example, the sound of Dr. Stone talking on the microphone, the sound of the disorienting space shuttle, the sound of the tool wrenching into a screw, the grasping on the screw ... • 52. The Spiritual Warfare Movement The Spiritual warfare Movement is a movement that intensely focuses on the movements of the Holy Spirit in evangelistic and spiritual warfare. Pentecostal in nature, their focus is not on the physical war which is seen, but the spiritual war, which is unseen. It is written, For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (NIV, Ephesians 6:12). Dan Jorgenson writes, Third wave approaches draw on a series of theological and practical innovations prominently associated with evangelists such as C. Peer Wagner, John Wimber, Benny Hinn, George Otis, and John Dawson). Wagner coined the term Third Wave as a shorthand designation for a Spirit based movement that succeeded earlier Pentecostal forms (Wagner 1988:15). A great deal of this movement began in the 1980 s and has proliferated since this time. Before it were two other Pentecostal and Charismatic waves. While many of this movements aficionados seek to separate their persons from the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements to appear more balanced in nature, having academic backing John MacArthur writes, If you look very closely at the... Satan will seek to find areas that express needs in one s life and will utilize these to maneuver the believer to sinful action outside of God s will. One then questions how to cope with these attacks. Charles Stanley writes, The greater question is not What can we do to avoid attacks from the enemy? but How are we to respond to such attacks when they come? • 53. History Of Social Norms Social norms have been shaping the way people interact throughout history. While norms could be seen as something that confides behavior, it also maintains social order allowing certain behaviors to be accepted or to be evaded. The way people respond to a situation depends on the person s normative beliefs or what they believe society should act. A normative belief is a person or a group of people believe what behavior is appropriate and inappropriate in a given social context. However, George C. Homans stated: Norms are just shared beliefs; they are not the behavior itself, but what people think behavior ought to be (Standford). A person may see one behavior completely outlandish while the person acting out sees it as something normal. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Hirohito s Japanese Surrender Essay Hirohito and The Japanese Surrender The world was hectic in the 20th century. The first plane was flown, World War I took place (1914 1918), communists took over Russia and China (1917), penicillin was discovered (1928), the U.S. stock market crashed (1929), and the DNA s structure was discovered (. However, on the eastern side of the world, the most notable occurrences were probably Hitler s rise as chancellor and his launching of the Kristallnacht, the German invasion of Poland, Japan s bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the Holocaust. Further east, specifically Japan, its 124th Emperor had just inherited his father s place, right before entering World War II. Throughout Hirohitos years of leadership, he made several ... Years later, as an adult, he became Japan s 124th Emperor, succeeding his father, Emperor Taisho, who died in 1926. His involvement in Japan s development during his nineteen years of reign was enormous. He invaded Manchuria, to Japan s benefit (1931), supported the war against China (1937 1945), and during World War II, formed alliances with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, forming the Rome Berlin Tokyo Axis. Emperor Hirohito was a man of kind emotions, of good intentions, and whose interest was always in the benefits of his people. Having agreed to join the terrorizing war, Japan suffered a great deal. Its economy shattered the country s wealth dropped drastically, its citizens were losing hope and confidence, and its military department was in a tough position and was starting to weaken helplessly. Hirohito decided that the paramount decision he could possibly take was to surrender Japan. He could no longer bear to see his people suffer and fight in the war, and thus showed he cared about them by ending their side of the war. As Hirohito spoke about the war and its effect on his people, he said: I made efforts to swallow tears and to protect the species of the Japanese nation . He cared deeply about the pain his people were going through, and made it his foremost priority to end it. When Hirohito began to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
