Magic If Play Analysis
For our directorial focus we decided was the betrayal of family and creating a new dream fits
with our chosen scene as the two young characters in this scene who are portraying this directorial
focus though their dialogue and actions. This led to the two characters in this scene disregarding
their previous dreams and their family to create their own dream to pursue. During the process of
creating this performance, we also learnt about the importance of the Stanislavski method and how
it can ameliorate the performer s actions and dialogue. Some of the Stanislavski techniques that I
have personally used to enhance my character and to fully believe in my performance is the Magic
If technique. Since I have not been in a position such as my... Show more content on

One of these conventions included the convention of props. In a particular part of the scene.
Johnnie picks up a kewpie doll and messes around with it like an illegitimate souvenir. From this
particular part from this scene. Bubba s concern rises from Johnnie describing the dolls as well
as the summer dream as a joke or an unworthy dream. Another convention that was used was the
convention of realistic language. When the argument breaks out the two character cannot over
exaggerate their voices otherwise it ruins the purpose of realism theatre. Instead the voices had
to be slightly raised in dynamics and in pitch which will make it as realistic as possible. Also the
use of subtext in the scene gave the scene more meaning and it also addressed the concern for my
character as the subtext within the other character shows what he really means. Furthermore
conventions of realism that acknowledged the directorial focus for our scene included the
convention of believable character. To make the scene work under realism theatre, characters
need to be relatable and believable to the audience. Since our directorial focus is the betrayal of
family and creating a new dream the audience must relate to this focus as well as the characters.
Another convention of realism theatre is the convention of a Super Objective. This gives the
characters a deeper purpose to this scene. In my case, my Super Objective

Marc Lewis Reflection
Critical Thinking Assignment #3 Since I have been reading the life of Marc Lewis I find myself
always becoming more and more excited about what is going to happen next. So far it has been
filled with ups and down and me trying to predict what will happen next on his journey. While
reading chapter 6 I was so elated that Marc had gotten accepted to college, it seems as though he
actually has a plan for himself and is determined to exceed every goal. But normally good things
don t always last for a time and for some reason I could sense that something was about to
happen. For those of us who were not given the opportunity to have a silver spoon in their mouth
or even those who had the spoon but chose not to use it acquire a different meaning in life.
Growing up I lived in the projects, with drug dealers and snotty nosed kids who only aspiration
when they grew up was to get out of the projects. Thankfully at a young age I was adopted by my
grandparents and just like Marc Lewis a new door opened and I was finally given a chance at
life itself. I truly believe that when people are presented with things that inspire them to do
better or be better then they will change their attitude on everything. They begin to create dreams
of being successful, studious and eventually become so set in their goals that even when things
go bad they choose not to focus on them because of the complete turnaround they just achieved.
Although marc seemed to be doing great I could tell that he didn t want to do the complete
turnaround, I say this because he was still smoking hash, it was evident that it had become apart
of his new lifestyle whether he actually wanted it to or not. He began to put a phosaude, almost
like when you re high around your parents and try to act as normal as possible. He said that the
trick is to balance anxiety and ecstasy and in all honesty I had no clue to what he was trying to
say. The psychedelic drugs caused his thoughts to go from normal thoughts like what he wanted to
eat or buy and would quickly change to his possible enemies such as customers, children and
President Ronald Reagan. Psychedelic drugs cause people to hallucinate and become in and out of
consciousness. I know a few people who have

Blood Spatter Analysis
Analyzing blood spatter at crime scene is a science that has developed significantly over the last
20 years. David Camm was arrested for the murder of his wife and two children in 2000. Several
blood spatter specialist would be called to the stand to testify on the blood spatter evidence that
was found in the crime scene with varying results. Most notably, Robert Stites, a blood spatter
analyst from Portland Oregon credentials and capability would be called into question many
times. Experience, knowledge and credibility of the blood spatter analyst as well as the blood
evidence found at the scene led to overturning the conviction of David Camm. David Camm was
an Indiana State Trooper who arrived home in September 2000 to find his wife and two children
shot dead in their car. David Camm had been playing basketball with family and friends in a
church gym, as he did every week. He left the church around 9:17pm, drove home, discovered the
bodies and called the police in a span of 12 minutes. David s wife, Kimberly, and their children, 5
year old daughter Jill, and 7 year old son Brad were at swim class until 7 p.m before they arrived
home (Fisher, 2013). David Camm became the police s prime suspect almost immediately. The
police theorized that Camm had arrived home at 9:22, killed his family, disposed of the gun (it
has not been recovered), cleaned up the crime scene, then called 911 (Fisher, 2013). However,
upon closer examination of the crime scene, specifically the blood

What Role Does Reason Play in Determining the Content of Morality
Immanuel Kant and David Hume diverge in their ideas about the nature of morality and do not see
eye to eye on how to determine whether or not an action is morally permissible. Kant holds that
practical reason alone can be used to determine whether or not a line of behavior is moral, whereas
Hume believes that reason is inconsequential to morality and that the way to determine whether an
action is moral is to examine the sentiments that it provokes within us.
Despite these differences in Kant and Hume s theories of moral philosophy, adherents of the two
philosophers, nevertheless, for the most part agree on the contents of morality. However, though
the moral rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Kant, in order to determine the morality of a particular behavior it is necessary to be able to
appraise that behavior rationally free of emotional coercion. According to his Universal Law
Formulation (ULF) a moral act is one that we can rationally will that others carry out as well. By
the same token, to behave in a way that is immoral is to conduct oneself in such a manner that we
cannot rationally will that others comport themselves in.
What Kant s reliance on reason as the ultimate determinant of morality means is that the moral rules
constructed by Kantians are steadfast and unwavering. Granted it is admittedly possible for some
Kantians to say that the moral rules generated from Kant s philosophy are able to accommodate
extenuating circumstances, Kant s insistence on putting practical reason over empirical factors
means that the ULF will either pass or fail a maxim consistently, regardless of circumstances.
It follows from Kant s argument that all beings endowed with rational faculties will be able to
use either the ULF or the Formula of Humanity to derive the same moral rules, regardless of the
particular state of affairs they are faced with. Of course, it is certainly possible for an individual,
say Shelly Kagan, to use the ULF to pass a maxim that say something like Shelly Kagan can kill
whoever he wants, whenever he feels like it, such maxims, however, abuse the ULF by bringing in
circumstantial factors the name Shelly Kagan for instance is a

Society’s Effect in Peter Shaffer’s Equus and...
Peter Shaffer and Franz Kafka, the authors of Equus and Metamorphosis, reveal through their
main characters struggles how society s oppression causes a loss of identity. This oppression is
caused by society s obsession with what it believes to be normal and how society s beliefs drive it
to conform those who don t fit its normal image. The two authors use their characters to symbolize
the different views and judgments of society. And based on these judgments, the authors use two
different types of oppression that cause different outcomes. Finally, this essay will reveal how the
two authors use their characters to drain the protagonists identity to show society s desire to
conform.

Whenever Gregor leaves his room he causes an uproar which usually ends with him being
physically punished and forced back into his room by his father. This can be seen in the first
chapter when Gregor reveals himself to his parents and boss, and becomes injured when his father
forces him back into the room. In addition in the second chapter Gregor sustains mortal injuries for
following his sister Grete into the house to help his collapsed mother. In the end, with his injuries
and seeing himself as a nuisance and a monster like his family did, Gregor dies.
Both of the authors exploit their characters by using them to slowly leech the identity of their
protagonists which ends in the protagonists loss of identity. They do this to show how society is
always trying to conform others. In both books, society tries to conform the characters into what
they believe is best for them. This can be seen in Equus when Dysart promises, It s all over now,
Alan. It s all over now. He ll [Equus] go away now... You are going to be well. I m going to make
you well, I promise you. (Shaffer 2 35). Shaffer uses his character Dysart to supposedly cure Alan
into a person who is accepted by society. However, Shaffer creates another purpose for his
character Dysart. Shaffer exploits Dysart to reveal how society s cure for Alan is more destructive
than it is helpful. Understanding what this will do to Alan, Dysart declares,
I ll take it [Equus/ his religion] away! He ll

The Characteristics Of Classism In The Classical Period
The Classical period, sometimes called the Hellenic period, began in the 5th and 4th centuries
BC. During the Classical period, Greece succeeded its maximum level of success both culturally
and economically. The ancient Greeks strode to perfect both the body and mind. Classism has
caused a significant amount of changes in the art world which allowed them to express
themselves through their art spiritually. Classism s qualities still are featured throughout the
artworks that are being made today. Some of this movement s features would include how most
of the sculptures that are done are idealized. Idealism is when someone is painted, or sculpted
with the ideal body and face. Realism is another feature in Classical Art. Realism is seeking truth
through the artwork, they could no longer achieve the look they were going for by just chiseling
away at a block of stone. Therefore, they based they techniques on modelling, by building first
out of clay on new models and then they would copy them into stone. One of the last main
features in this movement would be how mathematically correct everything is. Artists in these
eras were very conscious about correct proportions, measurements, and symmetry. That is how
those artists made it possible to create such perfect and idealized masterpieces. A sculptural
example of Classical Art is The Spear Bearer . This entailed careful observation of a model as well
as understanding of the mechanics of anatomy of how a body shifts from a pose,

Juvenile Law Breakers In The Court Of Law Essay
There exist composite and acute issues that are experienced by the American Jurisprudence in the

exists considerations which defends the crimes by youths which states that the crimes are neither

Submitting juvenile files into Federal Court sentencing can result to either an extended sentence or

There exist conditions set by the U.S ultimate court to govern on the policy. For almost seven

complicated due to the following reasons:
i.It is evident that violent behaviors varies over the age distribution (Handler, Joel 1965). Crime

Both texts suggest that the increase of gun population leads to a violent result. Although, both

than helping keep people safe. The Myth of the Good Guy with a Gun is a good source of
information, using logos as its type of persuasion, the evidence/examples are statistics and
numbers that express the idea that guns aren t used for good. The Blood Drive uses pathos, a
persuasion that emphasises the emotion of the audience. In this case, logos is a better expression

Improving Vehicular Network And Road Safety Essay
Abstract Although the spread in Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) research, eventual high end
vehicles are conventional to under utilize the on Board computation, communication, and Storage
resources. So, there is need to move from conventional VANET to Vehicular Cloud Computing
(VCC) by combining VANET with cloud computing. Also, VANETs use an open medium for
communication and consequently are exposed to security threats that impact their Reliability. We
address some major design concern that will affect the future performance of VCC and provide a
set of security and privacy protecting protocols. We address relatively unique security challenges
resulted by features of VCC e.g. The challenges of authentication of high mobility vehicles and the
complexity of trust relationships among multi players caused by intermittent short range
communication. We propose data trust security model designed for VANETs based on social
network theories. Our intention is to help readers better understand the fundamental vehicular cloud
computing mechanisms and mark out the potential applications for improving vehicular network
and road safety. We present a extensive taxonomy of vehicular networking and analysis between
MCC and VCC. In addition, we explain the VCC architecture, and the extensive application
scenario. Each vehicle in VCC can connect to the other vehicles or the network infrastructures by
using the vehicle to vehicle or the vehicle to infrastructure network communication. We

of the amount of genius it took. The Mayan trade routes affected the entire Mesoamerican area.
This shows significance because it impacted a lot of people. The Mayan trade routes also took
some very immense planning so that all the routes would work out which is an example of effort.
it also took a lot of physical effort because of how the Maya did most of their trading by foot,
meaning that they had to walk miles going only about 1 to 3 miles per hour just to trade

D Day During The World War II
There are a lot of days throughout the landing on Normandy on June 6th, 1944, to get the
Germans out of Paris, which then lead to pushing them out of France in late August 1944. D day
was a significant day because it helped end World War Two . It was the day that had started the
chain effect to ending World war Two, an example of this is on December 16, 1945, the Battle
of the Bulge. This was when the last of Germany s troops went 50 mile across the Allies defences
creating what is known as a bulge. There are some main targets and effects of d day and some of
those are, it helped the soviets not fight alone against Nazi Germany. It spread the Germans army

But now that Adolf Hitler Germany s chancellor has Poland, Hitler will break that pact in 1941.
This was when Hitler had organized a blitzkrieg on the Soviet Union . That Blitzkrieg was
codenamed Operation Barbarossa. On the day June 22, 1941 Adolf Hitler organized and launched
operation barbarossa, he had set the soldiers to the Eastern side of Russia. This was one of the
largest military operation in history. It concluded more than three million Axis troops, and around
three thousand and five hundred tanks. On the first day the Germans had gone nearly fifty miles
into Russia. The Soviets weren t looking so good they had two hundred fifty thousand men that
were lost when the Germans encircled and either killed or enslaved the Soviet soldiers near the end
of June in Minskin Belarus near Poland. Also around september one hundred eighty thousand were
captured at Smolensk and meanwhile five hundred thousand casualties in the Battle of Kiev. The
Soviets with the non aggression pact broken they looked for the help of the Allies.
Now organizing the Western front was hard that it looked. There was verise obstacles and worries
to overcome. Some of obstacles and struggles are that when President Roosevelt, Winston
Churchill the leader of England at the time had to plan and think about even little things like the
moon. The moon played in this because of the tides. If the tide was to high many of the landing
ships would hit land mines. It also wasn t good if the tide was to

St. Augustine Free Will Analysis
It s Your Choice
St. Augustine answered a question, which was, why did God give freedom of the will to men
since it is by this that men sin? His answer was, basically maybe God did not really give us
freewill for us to sin, but something bigger, such as reward and punishment. We chose to do good
or bad knowing that rewards and punishments comes from either one. God did not give freewill, but
this is something that just had to come about for being a human being is what I grasp to
understand from St. Augustine. I agree with St. Augustine because even though we may have
come from God, it is still a choice to do good or bad. Evodius was saying what if God had not
made it where we could chose to sin, what he failed to understand is that we would still have to
choose to do good, even if that is the only choice. In this paper I will give supporting facts on
how St. Augustine answered the question and understanding on how I agree with what he said.
In Introducing Philosophy St. Augustine said, I want to ask, as well: do you know this clearly,
or do you believe it willingly without really knowing it, because you ae prompted by authority.
(Page 436 Solomon). This quote I believe help me defend why St. Augustine had a justified point,
because Evodius exulting his right of freewill, when he was saying that freewill basically help

Persuasive Essay On The Value Of Cars
Million dollar cars go deeper than simply driving to and from work. It s for the same reasoning
that if someone were to ask why a car enthusiast owns five vehicle, he would say the reasons go
beyond the car itself. A heart felt passion for the lion s roar of the engine and the fact the upscale
luxury cars are an artful masterpiece on rolling wheels. Such priorities encapsulate the one
percent, and they purchase outrageously cool cars for their swagger and flamboyance over
efficiency and practicality. Here s a collection of some of the best road legal cars, but for the
purpose of clarity, the classic muscle cars sold at auction have slipped past this list.

The world s most expensive street legal car in production today, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita costs
such an extravagant amount of dollars because the Swedish manufacturer literally coated it in
diamonds, making it one of the world s rarest supercars. The exterior finish technique could be
called the Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave. With that said, a touch up paint job probably
costs an unfathomable amount of dollars. Open the hood, and the V8 engine produces 1,004
horsepower with 797 lbs ft of torque. Not only is the Koenigsegg CCXR a work of art on wheels,
put the pedal to the metal and the driver will zip down the highway from zero to 60 in under 2.9
seconds, and the speeds reach in excess of 250 mph. That s one fiery speed demon!

The Spherical Image as the Central Paradox in...
The Spherical Image as the Central Paradox in Valediction: for Weeping
In John Donne s A Valediction: for Weeping, the speaker consoles his lover before leaving on a sea
voyage and begs her not to cry. Crying, the speaker tells his lover this poem at the docks before he
boards his ship going abroad. Donne uses a spherical image as the central metaphor in his poem.
When Donne uses irony, paradox, and hyperbole including the use of round images such as: coins,
globes, and tears he strengthens the spherical conceit. By comparing two seeming opposites like
tears and love as his conceit, Donne uses the spherical image as the central paradox in A
Valediction: Of Weeping.

The fruit and the emblem are round images describing their tears, the emblem symbolizes both
the literal round image and the lover s face (the tear bears her emblem or face). As the tear
bearing her image falls, the speaker fears the ending of their love if she cries, as the speaker
states: So thou and I are nothing then, when on a diverse shore (9). In the second stanza, the
speaker tries to convince her that they are still together, even when they are separated, and begs her
not to weep.
The second stanza opens with a ball image forming out of nothing into a globe. A worker can
take a round ball . . .and quickly make that, which was nothing, all (12). The globe and their love
represent all, because the globe represents all of the entire world, where as, the love

Thoreau and Emerson

In today s society each individual has the ability to thinks for themselves, but the inception of

society where a media, television and internet are the sources of manipulating a person s mind. It
also creates their mindset to determine how one think about themselves or and different view point

argument about how to be individual and not let government take control over your lives. Ralph

It is not desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right. The only obligation
which I have a right to assume is to do at any time what I think right. It is truly enough said that a

conscience.(127) And in Self Reliance by Emerson: To believe your own thought, to believe
that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, that is genius. (109) To develop
into an individual is to make every choice based upon your own personal belief, no matter what
society says, and to act upon your belief . Emerson thought that all great works were products of
individualism and self reliance, claiming that: In every work of genius we recognize our own
rejected thoughts: they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty. Great works of art have
no more affecting lesson for us than this. They teach us to abide by our spontaneous impression
with good humored inflexibility then most when the whole cry of voices is on the other side.
Else, to morrow a stranger will say with masterly good sense precisely what we have thought and
felt all the time, and we shall be forced to take with shame our own opinion from another. (109)
Emerson considered individuality as doing whatever he wanted and ignoring what the people think,
which we can find in his words: What I must do is all that concerns me, not

Observation Of Migrant Mother
Make observations:
The migrant mother is in the foreground of the image, while her children are in the background of
the image. The migrant mother is the major element in this image, while the children are the
minor elements are the children. The mother is staring out in the distance, and appears to have a
concerned expression on her face. She is worried, and her clothes are ragged. There are three
children in this image: two of them near her shoulders, and another in her lap. It appears that the
child in her lap is an infant, and was born somewhat recently.
Connect the observations:
In 1936, the Dust Bowl was occurring in the United States. The Dust Bowl was a series of dust
storms that destroyed lives, and forced many citizens in the Midwest to relocate to California.
According to Lange, this image was taken in California. It is possible that the mother and her
children have been displaced from their homes, and are escaping to California looking for work.
However, finding work in California was often a fruitless effort. There was typically little to no
work for migrants, which could be a source of stress for the migrant mother. She has three children,
but she is most likely unable to feed them. This is further supported by the state of her clothes and
her children s clothes. They are tattered, which indicates there is not enough money to buy new
clothes.
Draw inferences from the related observations:
A possible interpretation of this situation is that the woman has recently migrated from the
Midwest, and is struggling to provide for her family. She is in a difficult situation, because she
loves her children but is unable to provide them with an ideal lifestyle. Their faces are covered in
dust, and the mother is wearing an expression of hopelessness. The tone of this image is one of
hopelessness, the underlying emotion common in almost all the Okies at the time. The hardships
have worn the migrant mother down, and she is struggling to survive with her three children. There
are no other family members present in the image, suggesting that she is the sole provider and sole
source of income for her family.
Form a tentative interpretative conclusion:
By depicting the facial expression of the woman and her

Minor And Major Problems Have Occurred During This...
Minor and major problems have occurred during this reporting period. At the end of each shift, I
am responsible for closing out my computer and printing out my paperwork for the day. After
printing out the paperwork, documentation was shown that I did not recall doing under my keys.
This is a common problem for working at the front desk. Another front desk employee was
working under my keys and mistakenly forgot to complete the additional documentation needed
for the submissions she made on my computer. The issue was that a guest needed a movie charge
taken off. Whenever this happens, an allowance sheet must be filled out explaining the
reasoning for the charge being taken off. I was not allowed to leave until I searched within the
history records to find out who initialed under my keys. The individual was shockingly a
manager. My way of resolving this issue from reoccurring is to log on and off of every time I
step away from the computer. Regardless of whether I step in the back office or go on my lunch
break. That will prevent instances such as a simple movie charge to prevent me from leaving
work. A more major problem that everyone is guilty of at some point is not collecting a method of
payment at check in. This is vital to obtain from all guests. If I do not collect a method of payment
then I have to immediately put a stop charge on the room. This then disables a guest from making a
purchase from anywhere inside the hotel. My process of resolving this issue is to make

Low Ph Groundwater Discharge Drives Natural Acidification...
High pCO2, low pH groundwater discharge drives natural acidification of reefs
Christina M. Richardson, Henrietta Dulai, Brian Popp, and Kathleen Ruttenberg
Abstract
Diel changes in the marine carbonate chemistry of reefs are thought to be primarily biologically
driven. The presence of groundwater discharge in nearshore reefs may complicate our
understanding of carbon cycling in these systems, however. Here we show that coastal groundwater
inputs shift and heighten biologically induced changes in marine pH, driving natural acidification
and CaCO3 dissolution along a salinity gradient in two Hawaiian coral reefs. We examined two
contrasting fringing reefs with variable pCO2 (1800 4000 ?atm), low pHT (7.4 7.5), and low
?aragonite (0.3 ? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We observed changes in pHT from groundwater inputs ranging from 0.01 0.40 pHT units and mean
daily changes of 0.04 ? 0.08 to 0.18 ? 0.16 pHT units at sites located closest to the groundwater
springs. Further, our data revealed a shift in reef metabolism from net dissolution to net
calcification across this groundwater driven physicochemical gradient. At sites with high levels of
groundwater exposure, dissolution rates were elevated. Reef systems experiencing groundwater
discharge may be placed under similar physicochemical constraints as expected with future ocean
acidification conditions. As such, our results may shed light on how natural reef communities will
respond to changes in carbonate chemistry due to ocean acidification.
1. Introduction
Atmospheric CO2 levels are projected to reach 730 to 1090 ppm by 2100 due to rising
anthropogenic CO2 inputs (IPCC 2007, Joos et al., 2001, Meehl et al., 2005, Wigley 2004, Wigley
and Raper 2001). Oceanic uptake of CO2 is raising marine pCO2 and lowering pH as the dominant
dissolved carbonate species in sea water shift from CO32 and HCO3 towards HCO3 and H2CO3, a
process known as ocean acidification (OA) (Qu?r? et al., 2012). Declines in pH and ?aragonite
associated with emerging changes in carbonate chemistry due to OA will impact diverse marine
biota (Doney et al., 2009).
Oceanic pH is predicted to decrease by 0.3 ? 0.4 pH units as a result of OA by the end of the
century (Doney et al., 2009,

Samuel Beckett s Waiting For Godot, Endgame, And Not I
To many people life is a continuous search for purpose and meaning in a chaotic and uncaring
world, and to the playwright Samuel Beckett it is no different. In the works Waiting for Godot,
Endgame, and Not I, Samuel Beckett uses elements of nihilism, pessimism, and absurdity to find
humor in day to day existence, as well as the relationships between the self and others. Before one
can analyze Beckett s work, one must first understand the meanings of nihilism, pessimism, and
absurdity in regard to Beckett himself.
Nihilism is a term often attributed to inaction, immorality, and pointlessness. The Merriam Webster
Dictionary defines the term as a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that
existence is senseless and useless (Nihilism). That being said, nihilism is not a support of immoral
actions but rather a belief that the concept of morality is without logical standing. This
understanding of nihilism will make itself more apparent when analyzing Waiting for Godot.
Pessimism is another term commonly associated with a bleak and demoralized perception of
reality. Its true definition is not far off from this association, described as An inclination to
emphasize adverse aspects, conditions, and possibilities or to expect the worst possible outcome
(Pessimism). Beckett s Endgame and Not I are works which provide many examples of Pessimism.
In contrast to the previous terms, absurdity or rather, the absurd, carries a correlation to humor,
silliness,

several years, Valley Winery has its fair share of problems that have Waller worried. He is very
aware of the competitiveness within the wine industry and is concerned that Valley Winery will not
be able to continue consistently increasing their sales.
Turnover rate is the number one issue at Valley Winery. Every problem the company has bleeds

a huge issue that Waller must address. The existing sales rep employment average... Show more

With so much responsibility given to one person, effectiveness becomes a concern. The person in
charge of hiring judges candidates based on youth and physical characteristics, rather than
legitimate credentials. There is no consistency or checks and balances within the hiring process.
Essentially, a single person is making all of the hiring decisions without any guidelines from upper
management. Hiring sales reps based on qualifications would correlate with a reduction in the
turnover rate.
The fourth and final issue is the quotas set for the sales reps. Unattainable quotas are the issue
behind the turnover rate and the aggressive sales attitudes. Right now, each sales rep is required
to meet monthly display quotas for different lines of products. It is nearly impossible for the reps
to meet their quotas, which leads to exaggerating numbers and tampering with competitors
products. Sales reps are discouraged by unrealistic quotas and overwhelming workloads; a
combination that leads to low employee morale and high turnover. In order to solve his laundry list
of issues, Pat Waller must do some serious restructuring, beginning with the hiring process. Waller
needs to begin recruit top performers from competing firms. Because the wine industry is
incredibly competitive, this will help the Valley Winery stay on top. Also, the interview process
needs to be more thorough and realistic.

Book Title: Freakonomics
Author name: Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner
The author Steven Levitt studied economics at Harvard University and MIT. He is primarily
known for his work in the field of crime. The title Freakonomics means a study of economics based
on the principles of incentives. The title is related to the book since he emphasizes how incentives
drive and affect people s actions. Although this book does not have a single theme, the main focus
of the book is a new way of interpreting the world using economic tools. He explores incentives,
information asymmetry, conventional wisdom, crime and abortion, and parenting throughout the
six chapters of the book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example of incentive, Levitt introduces a daycare study in which a daycare center fines $3
for parents who comes late. The study finds out that the number of parents coming late increased
as they put a $3 of fine. He explains that the incentive of $3 was too small, and the fine made the
parents to not feel the moral guilt for showing up late, resulting in more parents being late.
Levitt next examines the incentives that cause people to cheat. The first example of cheating is a
story of teachers cheating in Chicago public schools. To avoid the risk of getting fired or getting
penalty by the government for low test scores, many teachers chose to cheat and inflate their
students scores. They cheated by allowing the students to have more time during test, giving away
answers, and even by changing students answers by themselves. In this case, we can see that the
schoolteachers are driven by economic incentives. For them, moral and social incentives are not as
strong as economic incentives. Similar cheating can be seen in sumo wrestling. In Japan, sumo
wrestling is a very popular sports and the high ranked wrestlers get great honor. Also, among sumo
wrestlers, their rank determines their salary, reputation, how they are treated, and even how much
he gets to eat and sleep. Because they are so desperate for higher rank, the incentive for cheating is
very powerful. In the crucial matches that determines sumo wrestler s ranking, they cheat by

British Petroleum Industry Essay
World oil demand is increasing as emerging economies need more energy to increase their living
standards. Estimates, shown below, are that by 2030, China and India as emerging markets will
import over 70% to 90% of their fossil fuel needs (1) . Coupled to a continued high and growing
demand for oil, makes this a robust market for the next 30 years.
Currently, the conventional approach is to aggressively explore and develop new fields. This has
led to a growth in drilling deeper wells and looking to off shore sites for new production of light

With supercritical water extraction and treatment, the heavy crude is upgraded to a medium to light
crude that is higher value and can be further refined at more facilities worldwide. In addition, it can
be transported and stored using conventional crude infrastructure already in place and leverage that
capital and operating investment.
Using supercritical brine , such as the water found with typical oil reservoirs or seawater (14) is
the key difference and what makes this unique. Based on the cited experimental work, heavy crude
can be hydrocracked more efficiently to make a medium to lighter crude in a relatively simple
process. It has been demonstrated that in one step, sulfur is converted to H2S for easy separation,
metals can be removed (25) and the heavy organic molecules are hydrocracked to shorter chain

A Misunderstanding Of Gerald Finzi s Music
One misunderstanding of Finzi s style to those reflecting on his music, was that he refused to use
higher dissonant notes, which was a component in twentieth century music. This is a way that
people recognized Finzi s work because he kept his options open with new possibilities, but
restricted himself from specific rules. For example, a dominant seventh chord in a motet by Byrd is
as dissonant in its context as the opening chord of the finale of Beethoven s ninth symphony. In
other words, those characteristics were prominent in determining pieces by other composers, such
that small notation was recognizable for Finzi s work.
Compositions
Subsequently, Gerald Finzi s musical compositions gathered much fame, but in a rare storyline.
Throughout his life, only two of Finzi s pieces were physically made. Dies natalis, and White
flowering days are the pieces Finzi composed. Furthermore, he was not encouraged to record his
compositions, he was only interactive in conducting his own music in concerts and broadcasts.
During the 1939 1945 war, his musical talent was surpassed for the moment being. Finzi continued
to develop as he felt more intentions for his musical skills when observing the new characteristics
of his country during the war. Although he continued to compose, a majority of his music was not
yet recorded until after his death. An example would be a clarinet concerto, Five Bagatelles, which
was written during the war to portray the passing moments during his

Sexual Harassment Issues
Sexual harassment is an ongoing problem in our society and has been swept under the rug in most
sexual harassment cases in the workplace. The problem with sexual harassment, especially in the
workplace, is the fact that victims usually cannot escape the situation from happening more than
once. The victim is often in a position with their company that the victimcannot let authorities know
of the harassment because of financial obligation to their family and themselves through the
company. Sexual harassmentis an issue that, is not only a major issue but an issue that needs to be
stopped. Sexual harassment in the workplace needs to be prevented from happening and we as a
society need to raise awareness for this issue. The sexual harassment epidemic in the workplace
in America is escalating quickly, but what exactly is sexual harassment? Sexual harassment is
defined as unwanted sex related behavior at work that is appraised by the recipient as offensive,
exceeding her resources, or threatening her well being (Barling). However, there is a difference
between sexual harassment in the workplace and workplace romance. Workplace romance is a
risky game to play in the workplace environment. Often in cases of sexual harassment, workplace
romances have taken a turn in the wrong direction and turn into more aggressive relationships.
Sexual harassment does not only happen to women but also to men. However, sexual harassment
cases occur more with women as the victimthan men being

Bourbon Reform In Spanish America And Pombaline Reforms In...
The Bourbon Reforms in Spanish America and the Pombaline Reforms in Brazil were both
motivated by the European state s interest in increasing defense, centralizing authority, and
expanding economic benefits of the their Latin American colonies. The Bourbon Reforms began
under Philip V, the first Bourbon King of Spain, and were initially concerned with proper and
efficient governing of the Spanish Colonies in America. These early reforming projects primarily
focused on issues of administration and jurisdiction. The viceroyalty of Peru was divided. In 1739
the viceroyalty of New Granada was created with its capital in BogotГЎ. Later in 1776 the
viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata was established with its capital in Buenos Aires, which gained
control of the silver mines and mint in PotosГ. One of the most significant of the Bourbon
administrative reforms was the implementation of the French style intendancy system, in which a
government official, an intendant, was appointed essentially to supervise an established territory,
responsible for overseeing the military and financial affairs of the region. Most all of the officials
appointed during the administrative restructuring of the Spanish colonies were Spanish born, this,
combined with other Bourbon Reforms, which were meant to limit the authority and autonomy of
creoles, resulted in tension between different social classes in the colonies. Defense was also of
paramount importance to Bourbon Reformers. Many Spanish American

Social Media And Web 2.0 Tools
Using Social Media and Web 2.0 tools to enhance the experience with Self Regulated Learning
Self regulated learning is a total work of the human brain; it entails attention, concentration, self
assessment, change and responsibility for one in learning. Research states that self regulation
possibly have little to do with intelligence and development. Psychologist in the year of 1960
studied how they discovered the ability to delay gratification is by forming the basic for self
control. A person character play a role in the definition of self regulated learning. Overall research

with their behavior.

Learning 2.0 is technology enhanced learning that goes beyond access to traditional educational
materials and tools to construct a style of learning that is more engaging for the student; this is
accomplished through the demand pull approach which presents students with a vivid, possibly
virtual, learning construct. This self regulated learning process is based on the student s desire to
learn about a particular topic or be a part of a certain community, and is usually informal. The
demand pull mode is resource oriented and current internet sources. Web 2.0 is rapidly growing
and evolving (Brown Adler, 2008).
The benefits and challenges that may be associated with self regulated learning are (1).Staying
Engaged, the internet along with the various applications help keeps students engaged on a
particular topic of interest. These social media technology tools assist with the learning process
based on the familiarity of the tools that are used. (2)Self monitoring is a strategy that teaches
student to self assess their learning along with communicating with their peers. This pro helps
students not only learn with each other but from each other. A disadvantage could be cost, not all
of these self learning tools are free and the advanced version usually comes with a fee. The internet

The Charity Organization Society
1.The Charity Organization Society was based in the scientific movement of organizations. Workers
believed that charity work needed more definition and organization and that charity should be
focused more on individual need rather than as a whole population. Focusing on individual need
was intended to improve relief operations while making resources more efficient. They also
intended to eliminate public outdoor relief. With the promotion of more organization and efficiency
the new Charity Organization Societies were born. Trattner states that these new requirements for
organization and efficiency spread so rapidly that within 6 years 25 cities had such organizations
and by the turn of the century there were some 138 of them in... Show more content on

This evidence made it clear that dependency was linked to misfortune rather than misconduct
(Trattner, 1999). The new conclusions about povertymade way for reform in poverty relief; within
this reform where the roots of the Settlement House Movement lie.
The Settlement House Movement was a response to the Charity Organization Society who had
made little efforts to improve living and working conditions of the poor. Where C.O.S had
friendly visitors Settlement House workers considered themselves social reformers rather than
charity workers (Trattner, 1999). Their approach was to prevent ails that the poor suffered from
such as urban living and working conditions. They also attempted to bridge the gaps between
classes and races. These workers were not interested in just giving out financial or verbal relief
they were trying to reform society and the way the poor were viewed.
This new ideology of the Settlement House Movement was very different from that of the C.O.S
who had focused on individual need rather than looking at society as a whole as a cause of poverty.
Where C.O.S provided spiritual uplift the Settlement House Movement promoted social and
economic change (Trattner, 1999). C.O.S workers focused on dependency while Settlement House
workers were concerned with the reasons behind poverty. Settlement House workers focused on
equality within their philosophy and in their

Atheist And Atheism
The term atheism comes from the Greek word atheos, meaning godless. Atheos is derived from
a, meaning without, and theos, meaning deity . An Atheist has no religious belief. An Atheist
does not believe in a god or gods, or other supernatural entities. They reject a belief in the
existence of God or gods and those who simply choose to live without God or gods, and often
disbelief in the soul, afterlife, and other beliefs arising from god based religions. An Atheist has no
specific belief system. They accept only that which is scientifically verifiable. Since god concepts
are unverifiable, they do not accept them.
Atheism is commonly divided into two groups; strong atheism and weak atheism. This distinction
arises mainly from their understanding on the existence of gods. ... Show more content on

Freethinkers include atheists, agnostics and rationalists. Freethinkers never conforms everything in
the scriptures and religious books and any prophets or messiah. They think that revelation and blind
faith are invalid and thus no guarantee of truth. The concept of free thinking refers to the process of
making decisions and arriving at beliefs without relying solely upon tradition, dogma, or the
opinions of authorities. Usually the context of this is only in religion, although a person can be a
freethinker in other areas as well. In place of tradition or dogma, freethinkers insist upon using
reason, logic, and evidence as the bases for forming reasonable and justified beliefs. Superstition is
rejected in favour of science. Most freethinkers are also atheists or agnostics although that is not
imperative. It is possible for someone to be an atheist without being a freethinker, or to be a
freethinker without being an atheist. Like humanists, freethinkers believe that moral values follow
on from human nature and experience, rather than depending on god or any supernatural

Rise Of The Texas Republican Party
Rise of the Texas Republican Party
For decades, the state of Texas was Democratic and then suddenly in 1998 the state flipped to
Republican. Currently, Texas is the boldest Republican state in the country. For so long it was
Democrat and strongly so but it has been Republican now since the nineties. The big question
surrounding this topic is what happened to make it flip suddenly? Well, research provided a very
strong answer that I didn t expect to find. In 1988 two people were voted in that changed everything
for Republicans; Kent Hance and Judge Thomas Phillips were the first republicans voted in since
the Reconstruction. This kick started a Republican makeover of the state that all through the
nineties Texans saw Republicans overtaking Democrats in every area. To understand how this went
down in the nineties there must be an examination of the past. The Democratic party was the face of
Texas for a century until the Republicans came back stronger than ever.
First and foremost, Texas was not colonized by British settlers. This has always made it stand out
as a fiercely independent territory then later a state. The individuals who shaped and formed
Texas did so in such a way to hold tightly onto its fierce independence. This fierce independence
was fueled throughout the first several decades of Texas existence due to invading foreign armies
and the daily struggles of just surviving in the Wild West. Because of this, the people of Texas
developed strong work ethics and a

2010 Chile Earthquake Case Study
Earthquake Case History:
2010 Mw = 8.8 Mega thrust Earthquake, Maule, Chile
5/2/13
By Travis Eddy
1. Introduction
In early 2010 central south Chile experienced a Mw = 8.8 earthquake and large tsunami waves that
devastated areas on the Chilean Pacific coast, nearby offshore islands, and areas near the epicenter.
In addition to the tsunami, the earthquake had many other geological consequences including
aftershocks, terrestrial and submarine land sliding, elevation changes, and a gravity shift. The
purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze the earthquake, its consequences, the resulting
damages, and mitigation.
2. Geologic Setting

The most severe impacts were observed on the Chilean coastline adjacent to the epicenter from San
Antonio Tirua, and 670 km offshore on the Juan Fernandez Archipelago (Synolakis, 2011;
Yamazaki and Cheung, 2011). The tsunami hit many areas close to the epicenter within 30 minutes
of the main event, however due to bathymetry and coastline shape, tsunami directions, impacts, and
arrival times vary. (Synolakis, 2011; Yamazaki and Cheung, 2011). For example, Talcahuano
Harbor located in The Bay of Concepcion 100 kilometers south of the epicenter experienced an
impact from a resonated 129 minute period oscillating wave three hours after the main event
(Yamazaki and Cheung, 2011). Resonance such as this occurred in various areas along the Chilean
coastline, and was caused by standing and partial standing wave systems produced along the coast
due to wave reflection between the continental shelf and the headlands, resulting in radiated
tsunami energy to become trapped over the continental margin (Yamazaki and Cheung, 2011).
6. Land sliding
The main event caused both terrestrial and submarine land sliding to occur in the area. Around 30
slides were delineated, with a majority of them being submarine (Volker, et.al., 2011). These
submarine slides were confined to the walls of various submarine canyons, and were characterized
as thin transitional slides retrograding into open slopes adjacent to the canyons (Volker, et.al., 2011).

Why Flowers Are Important Essay
5 Flowers that are important in Events and their meaning
Flowers have been the symbol of beauty, love, admiration and many other emotions. Since their
birth on earth, they have been revered for their aromas, hues, shapes, charm, and also as a source
of food. While the nature has gifted humankind with different flowers, scientific research have
added more varieties to them. Because of which, their significance and importance kept changing
and growing with the passage of time. But what hasn t changed since the old times are their
reverence and use in different events. Here, we are going to see 5 different flowers with their
importance and meaning for events.
Jasmine
These are the diminutive flowers loved not only by humans, but also by Gods. There is no surprise
that they have found a mention in the ancient Hindu scriptures. Right from worshiping the lord to
decorating wedding venues, homes, and for bridal makeup, jasmine are one of the favourite
flowers of all regardless of their faith. They are also used in making garlands for weddings and
funerals. Due to their sweet aroma, they are also used in making perfumes and incense sticks for
pleasing the god. Besides spreading fragrance in the atmosphere, jasmines also offer health benefits

Criminal Labelling
Labels are only classifying words or phrases placed on people or things by other people and are
often inaccurate and restrictive. However, they carry a lot of power. Labelling perspectives in
criminology looks at how crime is a social process (pg. 94; (White, et al., 2012)) and how certain
power structures determine what is considered deviant or not; the perspective studies crimeas an
outcome of specific types of human interaction (pg. 94; (White, et al., 2012)). This essay will
consider the question Does criminal labelling encourage criminal behaviour? and will answer it by
giving an overview as to what criminal labelling is, outlining the consequences of social
interactions, highlighting the effect labels have on individuals and critiquing... Show more content

Interaction between individuals can only take place due to each person assigning apt meaning to
the symbols (words, gestures etc.) of the other. This understanding of human interaction is called
the symbolic interactionalist perspective in sociology and labelling theory draws on much of this.
The self actively responds depending on how the individual interprets these symbols and thus
defines the situation. The same definitions lead to clear and straightforward communication and
this is where typifications are used to help make sense of the world or otherwise known as
stereotypes and labels. When these definitions do not match, this is seen as being deviant.
Deviancy is not an intrinsic part of behaviour but something that is convened upon an individual
by society as they deviate from the societal norm. According to Becker, impact of social reaction
is crucial to explaining the criminalisation process: social groups create rules and those which
deviate from them are labelled deviants. The deviant is one to whom that label has successfully
been applied; deviant behavior is behavior that people so label. (pg. 9; Becker; 1963). Activities
that are undertaken by the marginalised are not necessarily deviant themselves, but are labelled
so because the particular behaviour is seen that way by more dominant interest groups in
society. There is a large mutability in human behaviour and crime is a matter of who has the
power to label behaviour or persons as criminal. Engaging in deviant behaviour is known as
primary or secondary deviation and the main focus of labelling perspectives is the latter. Primary
deviation refers to the first participation in so called deviant behaviour where there is no major
change to self and deviance is seen as a short lived experience. Secondary deviation begins the same
as primary except there is an

Oil Pollution in the Oceans
Oil
By the time the first oceanographers began widespread testing, the Industrial Revolution was well
underway and changes had already occurred. Since the industrial revolution, pollution has become a
major problem in this world. Pollutants cause damage by interfering directly or indirectly with the
biochemical processes of an organism. Some pollution induced changes may be instantly lethal;
other changes may weaken an organism over weeks or months, alter the dynamics of the population
of which it is a part, or gradually unbalance the entire community. There are many forms of
pollution, which include natural and man made. Oil is a natural pollutant that is spread by seeping,
dumping and spills.
Oil is naturally in the marine environment. Oil seeps have been leaking large quantities of oil into
the ocean for millions of years.
Because of our growing dependence on petroleum products, offshore drilling, and street runoff
carrying waste oil from automobiles, the amount of oil entering the ocean has increased greatly in
recent years. Every year more than 908 million liters of used motor oil finds its way into the ocean.
Motor oil that has been used is more toxic than crude oil or new oil because it has developed
carcinogenic and metallic components from the heat and pressure within internal combustion
engines.
Spills of crude oil are generally larger in volume and more frequent than spills of refined oil. Most
components of crude oil do not dissolve easily in water, but those

Ethical Problems Of The Military Logistics System
As far back as 1775 and most likely before that ethical problems have plagued the military
logistics system, to include contracting of logistical support. Throughout our history, whenever
there was a mobilization to support a conflict there was a good possibility that there would be
some amount of fraud, waste or abuse introduced into the logistical system. (Huston, 1997) This
paper will discuss some the different types of fraud, waste or abuse that can occur. It will also
cover some recent cases from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan where military, contractors or both
have worked to defraud the government and will conclude with some things that can be done to
fight fraud in the future.
Though logistics and contracting are elements of the military organization, the contracting out of
logistical support is an area that is rife for lax ethics. During the solicitation phase the contracting
officer may try to structure the contract so that only one contractor is capable of fulfilling it. This is
done through making the technical specifications or terms of the contract so specific that only one
bidder is able to meet the terms. (af.mil) Another thing that is done, is submitting requests under a
certain price threshold to draw less scrutiny when they are reviewed. The Veterans Administrations
is dealing with a case like this right now. Purchasers are buying prosthetic limbs on their
Government Purchase Cards, just under the $25K limit so a contract doesn t have to go out

Children And Their Use Of Technology
Toddlers and Technology Children and their use of technology is a debate that has existed since
using technology in a home became customary. At some point in everyone s earlier years, they
heard adults say don t sit too close to the TV or it will rot your brain out, or cause you to go cross
eyed? It is now 2014 and there has never been a confirmed case of brain rotting or crossed vision
due to the television! In recent years this discussion has turned to the interaction young children
have with cell phones and tablets. Weekly, if not daily, there are new apps specifically designed
for these young minds hitting the market, our toddlers now have dexterity that adults are trying to
master! How much is too much? What are the long term effects? Are we raising un social little
techies? These questions consume minds of parents today, and researchers have put much time and
effort into researching this topic for decades. The objective of this study was to observe young
children in a public setting to see how many were actually interacting with mobile devices.
The observation technique used was as a participant observer, the specific goal to observe the use
of mobile technology directly by children appearing four and under in a variety of public settings.
At a local restaurant, two toddlers from different families were observed, one was perfectly happy
with crayons and a color page, the other begged for his mother s cell phone until she gave in.
Shortly thereafter, during a stroll

The Great Molasses Flood Of 1919
Would you believe me if I told you that it was just as effortless to swim in syrup as swimming in
water? Well, it s true! I realize it seems insane, doesn t it? Throughout this essay, I am going to
talk about the history of molasses (syrup), The Great Molasses Flood of 1919, and how we know
swimming in syrup is much like swimming in a pool of water.
Molasses, from the Latin word melaceres, meaning honey like, is a thick dark syrup that is a
byproduct of sugar refining. This results when sugar is crystallized out of sugar cane or sugar beet
juice. (Molasses) Before doing thorough research, I never knew the history of syrup, in fact, I had
never actually thought about syrup quite often either, considering that I am not an extremely
tremendous fan of syrup. However, I believe that I am further educated on the subject after my
recent research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I couldn t imagine!
The source of what became known as the Great Molasses Flood was a 50 foot tall steel holding
tank located on Commercial Street in Boston s North End. On January 15, 1919, a crowded
section of Boston was rocked by a massive tidal wave not of water, but of molasses. The bizarre
deluge came after a molasses holding tank burst and sent 2.3 million gallons of the dark brown
syrup swirling through the city streets. 21 people were killed and over 150 people were injured.
(The Great)
As I was reading as The Great Molasses Flood of 1919, I was shocked! The closest relation that I
could possibly think of that I have seen is the rainfall flood of 2008 in Saline County, Illinois. I
remember going outside and wading in water, it was almost impossible to drive and buildings were
flooded majorly. Excess of 12 inches above normal. (Flood of 2008) When I walked outside, I could
not believe my eyes! I didn t even think it was possible for Carrier Mills to get as much rain as it had

  • 3. Magic If Play Analysis For our directorial focus we decided was the betrayal of family and creating a new dream fits with our chosen scene as the two young characters in this scene who are portraying this directorial focus though their dialogue and actions. This led to the two characters in this scene disregarding their previous dreams and their family to create their own dream to pursue. During the process of creating this performance, we also learnt about the importance of the Stanislavski method and how it can ameliorate the performer s actions and dialogue. Some of the Stanislavski techniques that I have personally used to enhance my character and to fully believe in my performance is the Magic If technique. Since I have not been in a position such as my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these conventions included the convention of props. In a particular part of the scene. Johnnie picks up a kewpie doll and messes around with it like an illegitimate souvenir. From this particular part from this scene. Bubba s concern rises from Johnnie describing the dolls as well as the summer dream as a joke or an unworthy dream. Another convention that was used was the convention of realistic language. When the argument breaks out the two character cannot over exaggerate their voices otherwise it ruins the purpose of realism theatre. Instead the voices had to be slightly raised in dynamics and in pitch which will make it as realistic as possible. Also the use of subtext in the scene gave the scene more meaning and it also addressed the concern for my character as the subtext within the other character shows what he really means. Furthermore conventions of realism that acknowledged the directorial focus for our scene included the convention of believable character. To make the scene work under realism theatre, characters need to be relatable and believable to the audience. Since our directorial focus is the betrayal of family and creating a new dream the audience must relate to this focus as well as the characters. Another convention of realism theatre is the convention of a Super Objective. This gives the characters a deeper purpose to this scene. In my case, my Super Objective ... • 4. Marc Lewis Reflection Critical Thinking Assignment #3 Since I have been reading the life of Marc Lewis I find myself always becoming more and more excited about what is going to happen next. So far it has been filled with ups and down and me trying to predict what will happen next on his journey. While reading chapter 6 I was so elated that Marc had gotten accepted to college, it seems as though he actually has a plan for himself and is determined to exceed every goal. But normally good things don t always last for a time and for some reason I could sense that something was about to happen. For those of us who were not given the opportunity to have a silver spoon in their mouth or even those who had the spoon but chose not to use it acquire a different meaning in life. Growing up I lived in the projects, with drug dealers and snotty nosed kids who only aspiration when they grew up was to get out of the projects. Thankfully at a young age I was adopted by my grandparents and just like Marc Lewis a new door opened and I was finally given a chance at life itself. I truly believe that when people are presented with things that inspire them to do better or be better then they will change their attitude on everything. They begin to create dreams of being successful, studious and eventually become so set in their goals that even when things go bad they choose not to focus on them because of the complete turnaround they just achieved. Although marc seemed to be doing great I could tell that he didn t want to do the complete turnaround, I say this because he was still smoking hash, it was evident that it had become apart of his new lifestyle whether he actually wanted it to or not. He began to put a phosaude, almost like when you re high around your parents and try to act as normal as possible. He said that the trick is to balance anxiety and ecstasy and in all honesty I had no clue to what he was trying to say. The psychedelic drugs caused his thoughts to go from normal thoughts like what he wanted to eat or buy and would quickly change to his possible enemies such as customers, children and President Ronald Reagan. Psychedelic drugs cause people to hallucinate and become in and out of consciousness. I know a few people who have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Blood Spatter Analysis Analyzing blood spatter at crime scene is a science that has developed significantly over the last 20 years. David Camm was arrested for the murder of his wife and two children in 2000. Several blood spatter specialist would be called to the stand to testify on the blood spatter evidence that was found in the crime scene with varying results. Most notably, Robert Stites, a blood spatter analyst from Portland Oregon credentials and capability would be called into question many times. Experience, knowledge and credibility of the blood spatter analyst as well as the blood evidence found at the scene led to overturning the conviction of David Camm. David Camm was an Indiana State Trooper who arrived home in September 2000 to find his wife and two children shot dead in their car. David Camm had been playing basketball with family and friends in a church gym, as he did every week. He left the church around 9:17pm, drove home, discovered the bodies and called the police in a span of 12 minutes. David s wife, Kimberly, and their children, 5 year old daughter Jill, and 7 year old son Brad were at swim class until 7 p.m before they arrived home (Fisher, 2013). David Camm became the police s prime suspect almost immediately. The police theorized that Camm had arrived home at 9:22, killed his family, disposed of the gun (it has not been recovered), cleaned up the crime scene, then called 911 (Fisher, 2013). • 7. What Role Does Reason Play In Determining The Content Of What Role Does Reason Play in Determining the Content of Morality Immanuel Kant and David Hume diverge in their ideas about the nature of morality and do not see eye to eye on how to determine whether or not an action is morally permissible. Kant holds that practical reason alone can be used to determine whether or not a line of behavior is moral, whereas Hume believes that reason is inconsequential to morality and that the way to determine whether an action is moral is to examine the sentiments that it provokes within us. Despite these differences in Kant and Hume s theories of moral philosophy, adherents of the two philosophers, nevertheless, for the most part agree on the contents of morality. However, though the moral rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Kant, in order to determine the morality of a particular behavior it is necessary to be able to appraise that behavior rationally free of emotional coercion. According to his Universal Law Formulation (ULF) a moral act is one that we can rationally will that others carry out as well. By the same token, to behave in a way that is immoral is to conduct oneself in such a manner that we cannot rationally will that others comport themselves in. What Kant s reliance on reason as the ultimate determinant of morality means is that the moral rules constructed by Kantians are steadfast and unwavering. Granted it is admittedly possible for some Kantians to say that the moral rules generated from Kant s philosophy are able to accommodate extenuating circumstances, Kant s insistence on putting practical reason over empirical factors means that the ULF will either pass or fail a maxim consistently, regardless of circumstances. It follows from Kant s argument that all beings endowed with rational faculties will be able to use either the ULF or the Formula of Humanity to derive the same moral rules, regardless of the particular state of affairs they are faced with. Of course, it is certainly possible for an individual, say Shelly Kagan, to use the ULF to pass a maxim that say something like Shelly Kagan can kill whoever he wants, whenever he feels like it, such maxims, however, abuse the ULF by bringing in circumstantial factors the name Shelly Kagan for instance is a ... • 10. Society’s Effect in Peter Shaffer’s Equus and... Peter Shaffer and Franz Kafka, the authors of Equus and Metamorphosis, reveal through their main characters struggles how society s oppression causes a loss of identity. This oppression is caused by society s obsession with what it believes to be normal and how society s beliefs drive it to conform those who don t fit its normal image. The two authors use their characters to symbolize the different views and judgments of society. And based on these judgments, the authors use two different types of oppression that cause different outcomes. Finally, this essay will reveal how the two authors use their characters to drain the protagonists identity to show society s desire to conform. In both books, the authors use their characters to ... This can be seen in the first chapter when Gregor reveals himself to his parents and boss, and becomes injured when his father forces him back into the room. In addition in the second chapter Gregor sustains mortal injuries for following his sister Grete into the house to help his collapsed mother. In the end, with his injuries and seeing himself as a nuisance and a monster like his family did, Gregor dies. Both of the authors exploit their characters by using them to slowly leech the identity of their protagonists which ends in the protagonists loss of identity. They do this to show how society is always trying to conform others. In both books, society tries to conform the characters into what they believe is best for them. This can be seen in Equus when Dysart promises, It s all over now, Alan. It s all over now. He ll [Equus] go away now... You are going to be well. I m going to make you well, I promise you. (Shaffer 2 35). Shaffer uses his character Dysart to supposedly cure Alan into a person who is accepted by society. However, Shaffer creates another purpose for his character Dysart. • 12. The Characteristics Of Classism In The Classical Period The Classical period, sometimes called the Hellenic period, began in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. During the Classical period, Greece succeeded its maximum level of success both culturally and economically. The ancient Greeks strode to perfect both the body and mind. Classism has caused a significant amount of changes in the art world which allowed them to express themselves through their art spiritually. Classism s qualities still are featured throughout the artworks that are being made today. Some of this movement s features would include how most of the sculptures that are done are idealized. Idealism is when someone is painted, or sculpted with the ideal body and face. Realism is another feature in Classical Art. Realism is seeking truth through the artwork, they could no longer achieve the look they were going for by just chiseling away at a block of stone. Therefore, they based they techniques on modelling, by building first out of clay on new models and then they would copy them into stone. One of the last main features in this movement would be how mathematically correct everything is. Artists in these eras were very conscious about correct proportions, measurements, and symmetry. That is how those artists made it possible to create such perfect and idealized masterpieces. A sculptural example of Classical Art is The Spear Bearer . Allowing use of juvenile records in the court of law is not justified and should not be used to judge adult criminals. Detecting behavioral shifts from juvenile to adult s court system is complicated due to the following reasons: i.It is evident that violent behaviors varies over the age distribution (Handler, Joel 1965). Improving Vehicular Network And Road Safety Essay Abstract Although the spread in Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) research, eventual high end vehicles are conventional to under utilize the on Board computation, communication, and Storage resources. So, there is need to move from conventional VANET to Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) by combining VANET with cloud computing. Also, VANETs use an open medium for communication and consequently are exposed to security threats that impact their Reliability. We address some major design concern that will affect the future performance of VCC and provide a set of security and privacy protecting protocols. We address relatively unique security challenges resulted by features of VCC e.g. The challenges of authentication of high mobility vehicles and the complexity of trust relationships among multi players caused by intermittent short range communication. We propose data trust security model designed for VANETs based on social network theories. Our intention is to help readers better understand the fundamental vehicular cloud computing mechanisms and mark out the potential applications for improving vehicular network and road safety. We present a extensive taxonomy of vehicular networking and analysis between MCC and VCC. In addition, we explain the VCC architecture, and the extensive application scenario. Each vehicle in VCC can connect to the other vehicles or the network infrastructures by using the vehicle to vehicle or the vehicle to infrastructure network communication. We ... His answer was, basically maybe God did not really give us freewill for us to sin, but something bigger, such as reward and punishment. We chose to do good or bad knowing that rewards and punishments comes from either one. God did not give freewill, but this is something that just had to come about for being a human being is what I grasp to understand from St. Augustine. I agree with St. Augustine because even though we may have come from God, it is still a choice to do good or bad. The migrant mother is the major element in this image, while the children are the minor elements are the children. The mother is staring out in the distance, and appears to have a concerned expression on her face. She is worried, and her clothes are ragged. There are three children in this image: two of them near her shoulders, and another in her lap. It appears that the child in her lap is an infant, and was born somewhat recently. Connect the observations: In 1936, the Dust Bowl was occurring in the United States. The Dust Bowl was a series of dust storms that destroyed lives, and forced many citizens in the Midwest to relocate to California. According to Lange, this image was taken in California. It is possible that the mother and her children have been displaced from their homes, and are escaping to California looking for work. However, finding work in California was often a fruitless effort. There was typically little to no work for migrants, which could be a source of stress for the migrant mother. She has three children, but she is most likely unable to feed them. This is further supported by the state of her clothes and her children s clothes. They are tattered, which indicates there is not enough money to buy new clothes. Draw inferences from the related observations: A possible interpretation of this situation is that the woman has recently migrated from the Midwest, and is struggling to provide for her family. She is in a difficult situation, because she loves her children but is unable to provide them with an ideal lifestyle. Their faces are covered in dust, and the mother is wearing an expression of hopelessness. The tone of this image is one of hopelessness, the underlying emotion common in almost all the Okies at the time. The hardships have worn the migrant mother down, and she is struggling to survive with her three children. At the end of each shift, I am responsible for closing out my computer and printing out my paperwork for the day. Another front desk employee was working under my keys and mistakenly forgot to complete the additional documentation needed for the submissions she made on my computer. The issue was that a guest needed a movie charge taken off. Whenever this happens, an allowance sheet must be filled out explaining the reasoning for the charge being taken off. Richardson, Henrietta Dulai, Brian Popp, and Kathleen Ruttenberg Abstract Diel changes in the marine carbonate chemistry of reefs are thought to be primarily biologically driven. The presence of groundwater discharge in nearshore reefs may complicate our understanding of carbon cycling in these systems, however. Here we show that coastal groundwater inputs shift and heighten biologically induced changes in marine pH, driving natural acidification and CaCO3 dissolution along a salinity gradient in two Hawaiian coral reefs. We examined two contrasting fringing reefs with variable pCO2 (1800 4000 ?atm), low pHT (7.4 7.5), and low ?aragonite (0.3 ? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We observed changes in pHT from groundwater inputs ranging from 0.01 0.40 pHT units and mean daily changes of 0.04 ? 0.08 to 0.18 ? 0.16 pHT units at sites located closest to the groundwater springs. Further, our data revealed a shift in reef metabolism from net dissolution to net calcification across this groundwater driven physicochemical gradient. At sites with high levels of groundwater exposure, dissolution rates were elevated. Reef systems experiencing groundwater discharge may be placed under similar physicochemical constraints as expected with future ocean acidification conditions. As such, our results may shed light on how natural reef communities will respond to changes in carbonate chemistry due to ocean acidification. 1. Introduction Atmospheric CO2 levels are projected to reach 730 to 1090 ppm by 2100 due to rising anthropogenic CO2 inputs (IPCC 2007, Joos et al., 2001, Meehl et al., 2005, Wigley 2004, Wigley and Raper 2001). Oceanic uptake of CO2 is raising marine pCO2 and lowering pH as the dominant dissolved carbonate species in sea water shift from CO32 and HCO3 towards HCO3 and H2CO3, a process known as ocean acidification (OA) (Qu?r? et al., 2012). Declines in pH and ?aragonite associated with emerging changes in carbonate chemistry due to OA will impact diverse marine biota (Doney et al., 2009). Samuel Beckett s Waiting For Godot, Endgame, And Not I To many people life is a continuous search for purpose and meaning in a chaotic and uncaring world, and to the playwright Samuel Beckett it is no different. In the works Waiting for Godot, Endgame, and Not I, Samuel Beckett uses elements of nihilism, pessimism, and absurdity to find humor in day to day existence, as well as the relationships between the self and others. Before one can analyze Beckett s work, one must first understand the meanings of nihilism, pessimism, and absurdity in regard to Beckett himself. Nihilism is a term often attributed to inaction, immorality, and pointlessness. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the term as a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless (Nihilism). That being said, nihilism is not a support of immoral actions but rather a belief that the concept of morality is without logical standing. This understanding of nihilism will make itself more apparent when analyzing Waiting for Godot. Pessimism is another term commonly associated with a bleak and demoralized perception of reality. Its true definition is not far off from this association, described as An inclination to emphasize adverse aspects, conditions, and possibilities or to expect the worst possible outcome (Pessimism). Beckett s Endgame and Not I are works which provide many examples of Pessimism. In contrast to the previous terms, absurdity or rather, the absurd, carries a correlation to humor, silliness, ... There is no consistency or checks and balances within the hiring process. Essentially, a single person is making all of the hiring decisions without any guidelines from upper management. Hiring sales reps based on qualifications would correlate with a reduction in the turnover rate. The fourth and final issue is the quotas set for the sales reps. Unattainable quotas are the issue behind the turnover rate and the aggressive sales attitudes. Right now, each sales rep is required to meet monthly display quotas for different lines of products. It is nearly impossible for the reps to meet their quotas, which leads to exaggerating numbers and tampering with competitors products. Sales reps are discouraged by unrealistic quotas and overwhelming workloads; a combination that leads to low employee morale and high turnover. In order to solve his laundry list of issues, Pat Waller must do some serious restructuring, beginning with the hiring process. Waller needs to begin recruit top performers from competing firms. Dubner The author Steven Levitt studied economics at Harvard University and MIT. He is primarily known for his work in the field of crime. The title Freakonomics means a study of economics based on the principles of incentives. The title is related to the book since he emphasizes how incentives drive and affect people s actions. Although this book does not have a single theme, the main focus of the book is a new way of interpreting the world using economic tools. He explores incentives, information asymmetry, conventional wisdom, crime and abortion, and parenting throughout the six chapters of the book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an example of incentive, Levitt introduces a daycare study in which a daycare center fines $3 for parents who comes late. The study finds out that the number of parents coming late increased as they put a $3 of fine. He explains that the incentive of $3 was too small, and the fine made the parents to not feel the moral guilt for showing up late, resulting in more parents being late. Levitt next examines the incentives that cause people to cheat. The first example of cheating is a story of teachers cheating in Chicago public schools. To avoid the risk of getting fired or getting penalty by the government for low test scores, many teachers chose to cheat and inflate their students scores. They cheated by allowing the students to have more time during test, giving away answers, and even by changing students answers by themselves. In this case, we can see that the schoolteachers are driven by economic incentives. For them, moral and social incentives are not as strong as economic incentives. Similar cheating can be seen in sumo wrestling. In Japan, sumo wrestling is a very popular sports and the high ranked wrestlers get great honor. Also, among sumo wrestlers, their rank determines their salary, reputation, how they are treated, and even how much he gets to eat and sleep. Because they are so desperate for higher rank, the incentive for cheating is very powerful. In the crucial matches that determines sumo wrestler s ranking, they cheat by ... Estimates, shown below, are that by 2030, China and India as emerging markets will import over 70% to 90% of their fossil fuel needs (1) . Coupled to a continued high and growing demand for oil, makes this a robust market for the next 30 years. Currently, the conventional approach is to aggressively explore and develop new fields. In addition, it can be transported and stored using conventional crude infrastructure already in place and leverage that capital and operating investment. Using supercritical brine , such as the water found with typical oil reservoirs or seawater (14) is the key difference and what makes this unique. Based on the cited experimental work, heavy crude can be hydrocracked more efficiently to make a medium to lighter crude in a relatively simple process. It has been demonstrated that in one step, sulfur is converted to H2S for easy separation, metals can be removed (25) and the heavy organic molecules are hydrocracked to shorter chain compounds with less coking than obtained with conventional coking and hydrocracking methods. • 37. A Misunderstanding Of Gerald Finzi s Music One misunderstanding of Finzi s style to those reflecting on his music, was that he refused to use higher dissonant notes, which was a component in twentieth century music. This is a way that people recognized Finzi s work because he kept his options open with new possibilities, but restricted himself from specific rules. For example, a dominant seventh chord in a motet by Byrd is as dissonant in its context as the opening chord of the finale of Beethoven s ninth symphony. In other words, those characteristics were prominent in determining pieces by other composers, such that small notation was recognizable for Finzi s work. Compositions Subsequently, Gerald Finzi s musical compositions gathered much fame, but in a rare storyline. Throughout his life, only two of Finzi s pieces were physically made. Dies natalis, and White flowering days are the pieces Finzi composed. Furthermore, he was not encouraged to record his compositions, he was only interactive in conducting his own music in concerts and broadcasts. During the 1939 1945 war, his musical talent was surpassed for the moment being. Finzi continued to develop as he felt more intentions for his musical skills when observing the new characteristics of his country during the war. Although he continued to compose, a majority of his music was not yet recorded until after his death. An example would be a clarinet concerto, Five Bagatelles, which was written during the war to portray the passing moments during his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Bourbon Reform In Spanish America And Pombaline Reforms In... The Bourbon Reforms in Spanish America and the Pombaline Reforms in Brazil were both motivated by the European state s interest in increasing defense, centralizing authority, and expanding economic benefits of the their Latin American colonies. The Bourbon Reforms began under Philip V, the first Bourbon King of Spain, and were initially concerned with proper and efficient governing of the Spanish Colonies in America. These early reforming projects primarily focused on issues of administration and jurisdiction. The viceroyalty of Peru was divided. In 1739 the viceroyalty of New Granada was created with its capital in BogotГЎ. Later in 1776 the viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata was established with its capital in Buenos Aires, which gained control of the silver mines and mint in PotosГ. One of the most significant of the Bourbon administrative reforms was the implementation of the French style intendancy system, in which a government official, an intendant, was appointed essentially to supervise an established territory, responsible for overseeing the military and financial affairs of the region. Most all of the officials appointed during the administrative restructuring of the Spanish colonies were Spanish born, this, combined with other Bourbon Reforms, which were meant to limit the authority and autonomy of creoles, resulted in tension between different social classes in the colonies. Currently, Texas is the boldest Republican state in the country. For so long it was Democrat and strongly so but it has been Republican now since the nineties. The big question surrounding this topic is what happened to make it flip suddenly? Well, research provided a very strong answer that I didn t expect to find. In 1988 two people were voted in that changed everything for Republicans; Kent Hance and Judge Thomas Phillips were the first republicans voted in since the Reconstruction. This kick started a Republican makeover of the state that all through the nineties Texans saw Republicans overtaking Democrats in every area. For example, Talcahuano Harbor located in The Bay of Concepcion 100 kilometers south of the epicenter experienced an impact from a resonated 129 minute period oscillating wave three hours after the main event (Yamazaki and Cheung, 2011). Resonance such as this occurred in various areas along the Chilean coastline, and was caused by standing and partial standing wave systems produced along the coast due to wave reflection between the continental shelf and the headlands, resulting in radiated tsunami energy to become trapped over the continental margin (Yamazaki and Cheung, 2011). 6. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interaction between individuals can only take place due to each person assigning apt meaning to the symbols (words, gestures etc.) of the other. This understanding of human interaction is called the symbolic interactionalist perspective in sociology and labelling theory draws on much of this. The self actively responds depending on how the individual interprets these symbols and thus defines the situation. The same definitions lead to clear and straightforward communication and this is where typifications are used to help make sense of the world or otherwise known as stereotypes and labels. When these definitions do not match, this is seen as being deviant. Deviancy is not an intrinsic part of behaviour but something that is convened upon an individual by society as they deviate from the societal norm. According to Becker, impact of social reaction is crucial to explaining the criminalisation process: social groups create rules and those which deviate from them are labelled deviants. The deviant is one to whom that label has successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior that people so label. (pg. 9; Becker; 1963). Activities that are undertaken by the marginalised are not necessarily deviant themselves, but are labelled so because the particular behaviour is seen that way by more dominant interest groups in society. There is a large mutability in human behaviour and crime is a matter of who has the power to label behaviour or persons as criminal. Engaging in deviant behaviour is known as primary or secondary deviation and the main focus of labelling perspectives is the latter. Primary deviation refers to the first participation in so called deviant behaviour where there is no major change to self and deviance is seen as a short lived experience. Since the industrial revolution, pollution has become a major problem in this world. Pollutants cause damage by interfering directly or indirectly with the biochemical processes of an organism. Some pollution induced changes may be instantly lethal; other changes may weaken an organism over weeks or months, alter the dynamics of the population of which it is a part, or gradually unbalance the entire community. There are many forms of pollution, which include natural and man made. Oil is a natural pollutant that is spread by seeping, dumping and spills. Oil is naturally in the marine environment. Oil seeps have been leaking large quantities of oil into the ocean for millions of years. Because of our growing dependence on petroleum products, offshore drilling, and street runoff carrying waste oil from automobiles, the amount of oil entering the ocean has increased greatly in recent years. Every year more than 908 million liters of used motor oil finds its way into the ocean. Motor oil that has been used is more toxic than crude oil or new oil because it has developed carcinogenic and metallic components from the heat and pressure within internal combustion engines.
