1. Essay On Trifles
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Trifles" can present its own set of challenges. At first glance,
the seemingly simple nature of the subject might mislead you into thinking it's an easy task.
However, delving into the intricacies of the theme requires a keen understanding of the nuances
associated with the concept of trifles.
One of the difficulties lies in striking the right balance between acknowledging the seemingly
insignificant details and elevating them to a level of significance within the context of the essay.
It demands a meticulous examination of the subject matter, deciphering the hidden meanings
behind what might initially appear inconsequential.
Moreover, the challenge extends to exploring the broader implications and connections that
trifles can have within the chosen context. It requires a careful and analytical approach to unravel
the layers of meaning and significance, often necessitating in-depth research and critical thinking.
Furthermore, maintaining a coherent and engaging narrative while discussing seemingly trivial
matters can be a daunting task. Balancing between the microcosm of trifles and their macro
impact on the broader theme demands a skillful intertwining of thoughts and ideas.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Trifles" is no trifling matter. It necessitates a
careful examination of details, a nuanced understanding of their significance, and the ability to
weave these elements into a cohesive and thought-provoking essay. As with any challenging
task, it may be beneficial to seek assistance or explore additional resources. For those who might

2. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Essay
Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein sometime in the 1810s. She was born in
London in 1797 (Biography). Her mother was an author of prime literary stock who
was trying to encourage women to pursue their ideas and strive to earn the status as
equals. The Scientific and Industrial Revolutions that were taking place around Mary
Shelley certainly influenced her while she was writing the book. The creation of
machines and experiments at the time made people wonder what the limit of human
technology was. During the Industrial Revolutionmachines and technology were
being introduced to people that made them worry about the lessening of the impact
that humans are making (Industrial). There were protestors at the time that thought
these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was trying to instill the message that humanity cannot be replaced. In 1811
there was a revolt by the workers who did not like the way machinery was being
implemented into their work (Industrial). They felt that due to the machines they
could not use their skills and that the jobs became degrading. These people thought
that they had proven their worth already and did not need these machines to assist
them in their jobs, especially since they were now being paid less. A group of these
revolts, the Luddite revolts of 1811 1813, took place only a few short years before
Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. Her husband Percy, was an anti establishment
activist. Neither of them liked the way all jobs were being turned into factory jobs.
In the book Victor makes a female companion for the monster but destroys it before
it becomes alive. He does this so the monster does not become too human (Burkett).
Marriage was created as a human sacrament. One that should not be offered to
something that God did not make. This would give the monster too much free will.
He chose to have a mate and if it was given to him there would be no difference
between him and humans. He had already achieved the intellect by reading books but
he could not be given the opportunity to fully experience human emotions. The
thought of the horrible things the monster could achieve together scared Victor
enough for him to destroy
3. Fanfare For The Common Man Analysis
Emily Rush March 22, 2016 MUS 303 Final Project Fanfare for the Common Man:
Aaron Copland Fanfare for the Common Man immediately draws the listener in with
the beginning with a forceful crash on the tam tam and sharp timpani and bass drum
hits. The resonance within the Royal Albert Hall, London contributed to the overall
sound and effectiveness especially with the solo timpani strikes at the beginning. The
listener waits in anticipation of the brass section to enter, feeling as though the
percussion introduction is much longer than it is in reality. After the percussion
introduction, the trumpets state the main theme. After the first statement of the main
theme, the French horns join in creating a fuller texture. Throughout the piece, the
brass sections continue to layer with each other in different combinations each time.
Sometimes one section would begin playing the theme, and a few beats later another
section would join in creating a feeling of a round. Throughout the piece, the brass
plays the theme in alteration with the timpani and tam tam. Although the theme is
simple, together they create a long musical idea. The overall dynamic of the brass
grows throughout creating a sense of power especially when... Show more content on

Research about the work describes it as American and even patriotic. The open
fifth and fourth intervals represent a pioneer mentality much like in Appalachian
Spring. Fanfare for the Common Man is representative of Copland s conservative
style much like the Appalachian Spring Suite Simple Gifts. Speaking somewhat to
the American/patriotic affiliation of the work, there is a recording of the piece
from November 14, 2000 in the Coolidge Auditorium in the Library of Congress
records. The original manuscript is also available on the Library of Congress website

4. America Before We Get In-Depth Analysis
In my survey of the 25 international students, a lot of them had many words that
explain America before they came here, which were, opportunity, technology,
freedom and pride. Then when I asked them to give me their word that explain
America since they have been here, they said, lazy, separated and structured. This
proves that they came to the United States with a mindset which the media only
showed them. For example, one of Lakeland College foreign exchange students by
the name of Nathaniel Cooper said that the first thing he ever saw about America
was New York. Well, in America New York is one the most attractive cities in the
United States, from skyscrapers, to the colorful Time Square. Before we get in depth

5. A Research Report On Methyl Thiophanate
2.3. Toxicokinetics of fungicides:
Toxicokinetic studies provide important data on the amount of toxicant delivered to a
target as well as specific metabolism. Animals are exposed to fungicides through
ingestion or they are absorbed through the skin or the respiratory system. Different
factors regulate their absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion. In general,
the liver is the primary site for biotransformation and may include detoxification as
well as activation reactions (Gupta., 1986). slow degradation and biotransformation,
environmental persistence and bioaccumulation in adipose tissue and organs
containing a high content of lipid membranes (Costa., 2008). The newly introduced
class of fungicides are rapidly absorbed, metabolized and excreted and do not
accumulate in tissues, but some of them are partially absorbed from the
gastrointestinal tract.
2.4. Methyl Thiophanate
2.4.1. Definition:
Methyl Thiophanate (1, 2 Bis (3 (methoxycarbonyl) 2 thioureido) benzene) is a
systemic broad spectrum fungicide controlling various fungal pathogens. The
LD50 of Methyl Thiophanate in the male rabbit by oral route is 2270 mg/kg body
weight. It is used as a preservative in paint, textile, papermaking, leather industry
and ware housing practices, as well as a fruit preservative (Giry et al., 2001, Berglof
et al., 2002), Methyl Thiophanate is well absorbed (80 85%) after oral exposure and
is subsequently metabolized into many compounds

The Healthy Potion business has been operating for 10 years. The current owner
generated $500,000 surplus funds and opened 5 additional stores in Australia
Shopping Malls. Previously, they sold unique beverages containing Chinese herb.
The business is built on health benefits. Even though sales revenue increased, the
number of repeated customers dropped from 70% to 40%. The owner believes that
adding the herb to fresh juices may be a new selling point, and she wants to expand
the business in this way. I will use a rational approach in my report to advise her on
strategies for growth. This consists of three stages: Analysis, Formulation, and
Implementation. In the first stage, I will use SWOT analysis to examine internal...

they are buying big bulks of supply and receives discounts which lower their cost of

Offshoring business in China can also create a major weakness due the loose laws
and regulations. Looking at the case of Apple, who outsources its business to
Foxconn. Apple gives frequent pressure Foxconn to lower profit margins while

expenditures, by cutting wages and benefits. Due to a compulsory national
minimum wage, wages are cut by forcing workers to work overtime. (Interview

(2013) suggest the outcome of this resulted in frequent cases of worker s suicide,
worker s strike and labour exploitation. Therefore, high supervision costs need to be
enforced to avoid similar incidences. Apple suffered from severe damage to corporate
reputation, brand image and further it could even decrease
8. Energy Resources And Energy Management
1.3 Energy Misused in Campus
Energy management supplies sizeable options throughout helping significant
community organizations including colleges, hospitals wards, government workplace
houses and other who have high energy consumption personal operations cut costs
substantially. Energy management is something electricity providers as well as
electricity corporations accomplish to ensure that his or her electric power programs
as well as alternative electricity solutions produce enough electricity to satisfy need
in which the volume of electricity which his or her shoppers require. It can be used
to refer to method for handling and regulating one s own levels of personal energy.
Energy wastage can arise throughout Malaysian colleges mainly due to ineffective
utilization of energy as well as not enough consciousness involving constructing
consumers.
There are many instances of energy misused in campus such as energy uses in
heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) must normally be closely tied to
occupancy hours. Sizeable energy can be wasted in case a building is warmed or
even cooled off while no one using it, or even in the event that an entire building
can be warmed or cooled off while only a couple of rooms are in use. The maximum
energy are use when we want to cold the room until attain the best heat range.
Secondly, unplug your home appliances when not in utilised. This process targets
reducing unnecessary energy make use of by means of unplugging any home
9. Energy Radiation And Its Effect On The Cells
In the past, the applications of light, more specifically laser, in health and clinical
applications have been focused on its destructive phototoxic effects. This effect is
associated with high energy radiation, whereas low energy radiation has been found
to induce a stimulating effect on the cells. The heat inducing lasertissue ablation effect
used in surgery and the disinfectant antimicrobial effect of lighttherapy are distinctly
different from the beneficial healing response stimulated by photobiomodulation
(PBM). The nonionizing and low power lasers used in PBM are in wavelengths of
visible (660 nm), near infrared(810 and 940 nm), and in some rare cases, mid infrared
(1040, 2940, 9400 or 10400 nm)1. In recent studies, due to... Show more content on

One of the challenges to use PBM in clinical treatments is the effective dose
parameter; the wavelength, irradiance, fluence, duration and delivery protocols are
specific to each biological scenario (alleviating pain and inflammation or stimulate
regeneration)6,7 and the target area and penetration depth. Another prominent
challenge is that, even though clinical studies using low level light therapy (LLLT)
or PBM has been shown to be successful through a variety experimental studies6,8,
the study of the molecular mechanisms involved in the trigger release effects haven t
been well documented. Most of the molecular level studies have been based on
inclusion exclusion of certain genetic dispositions, growth factors and receptors9,10.
This article will, however, focus more on the low power laser technology its selection,
modulation, application, potential improvements, and also brief description on some
of the important optical imaging techniques that can be used in this research field to
study the molecular mechanics and regenerative effects. Improvement in laser
technology can potentially improve the scope of application of lasers in the area of
study (regenerative medicine) I wish to focus on.

10. Mercury and Commercial Salmon
Commercial salmon is an important source of nutrition for humans in both urban
populations and aboriginal peoples. However, mercury contamination in salmonids
has been a rising concern not only for the health of humans but for the health of
wildlife and ecosystems that are affected by it. Mercury is distributed widely through
the environment through natural processes, but anthropogenic processes have been
increasing mercury concentrations in the environment to dangerous levels through
direct deposition in soil and through atmospheric deposition. In this essay, I will
review the processes in which mercury circulated through the ecosystems, how
salmonis affected by it, and how the consumption of salmon affects human health.
About Salmonids Salmonids is a group of species classified under the family
Salmonidae. Salmonidae consists of 5 genera and 14 species primarily residing in
the arctic. The family of salmonidae includes salmons, trouts, and chars. A few
species of salmonidae discussed in this essay include the sockeye salmon
(Oncorhynchus nerca), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), brown trout (Salmo
trutta), cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki), Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus
tshawytscha), and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) (Farrell and Steffensen, 2005).
Overview of the Circulation of Mercury Inorganic mercury becomes deposited into
the atmosphere and soil by both natural processes and anthropogenic processes.
Natural processes include volcanic events, breakdown of
11. Naked Egg Osmosis
Conclusion
The hypothesis was supported, indicating that the rate of osmosis increased as the
percentage of sugar in each solution increased. As the rate of osmosis increased, the
circumference of the grape decreased more rapidly as more water molecules were
moving out. The graphs show that as the percentage of the sugar solution increased,
the rate of osmosis also increased showing a direct correlation. After the grapes were
placed in the 50% sugar and water solution, the highest concentration, they shriveled
up the most out of all the samples and had the smallest circumference. In the 50%
sucrose group the circumference of the grapes decreased at an average of 0.67 cm
during the experiment. In the less concentrated sucrose solutions that ... Show more

Within the 25% sugar solution group, the circumference in two out of the three
trials did not decrease very much. In this category there was one outlier that brought
down the average. The 5% group had a stronger negative rate of change in the
circumference indicating that osmosis occurred more rapidly. One limitation in my
experiment is that the researcher used circumference to measure osmosis, but, there
are probably slightly better ways to measure osmosis and measuring circumference
can lead to small errors. This could have impacted the results because some of the
measurements may not have been as accurate as they could have been. One possible
solution could be weighing the grapes instead of measuring the circumference.
Weighing the grapes would give more accurate values, as a scale would be used
instead of measurements done by hand. The measuring process caused another
imperfection with the experiment because the grapes were placed back into the cups
as they were being measured. This gave some grapes more time in the sugar solution,
which could have impacted the measurements because the extra time could allow for
more osmosis to take place. A solution to this could be removing all the grapes from
the solutions at the same time, and putting all the grapes back in the solutions at the
same time. This would ensure that no grape would have more time in their respective
solution. Another limitation that was present during the

For millions of immigrants, America has been seen as the land of opportunity where
anyone could become anything he or she wanted to be. A family that believes
strongly in the American dream can be found in Amy Tan s short story, Two Kinds.
The story centers around the daughter of a Chinese immigrant who desperately wants
her daughter to become successful. In the story, the author shows the difficult lives
immigrants face when moving to a new culture. In this short story, the theme shows
the protagonist s conflict with her mother on the type of daughter her mother wants
her to be. The author establishes the theme of how difficult mother daughter
relationships can be through characterization, setting, and symbolism. Primarily, Tan

The angry tone in the beginning leads to tension, but ends on a softer note once Jing
mei is older and learns to be more sympathetic. The setting of the story helps the
theme become more realistic. In addition to setting, the author uses symbols to
strengthen the theme of the story. In the story, the mother buys Jing mei a piano on
which to practice. The mother and Jing mei have different perspectives on what this
symbol means. To Jing mei, the piano symbolizes her mother trying to change her
into something other than herself; however, the piano symbolizes the American
dream to her mother. Eventually as Jing mei ages, she could see her mother s idea on
what the piano means and learns to appreciate the piano. When Jing mei is a woman,
[she] realized that [ Pleading Child and Perfectly Contended ] were two halves of the
same song (Tan 9). As Critic Cynthia Becerra states, the self realization completes this
rich vignette, it is not without pain and loss.(Becerra) This realization shows how she
learns that her mother only has high aspirations for her. The symbolical piano helps
the theme by showing the contrasting views between the mother and the daughter in
their relationship. Furthermore, Amy Tan writes a wonderful short story about the
complicated relationship between mothers and daughters, yet one can be enriching.

The BTK Killer incident is one of the more fascinating cases I have had the
pleasure to research in quite a while. This is the true story of the actions of a
deacon, a trusted member of the community and leader of a congregation, who was
found to be a serial murderer, and by the use of some very clever tactics and DNA
analysis, his identity and location was discovered. His cases spanned over the course
of 17 years, from 1974 to 1991. His public name, BTK Killer, stands for Bind, Torture
and Kill, which was his preferred method of disposing of his victims. However, his
legal name is Dennis Rader, and in 2005 he was sentenced to 10 life sentences for the
long list of murderers he was responsible for. In January of 1974, Dennis Rader
violently murdered his first victims, an entire family of 4, which he killed and left
the bodies in his local city of Wichita, Kansas. From that point, he went on to kill 6
more people over the next 17 years. The majority of his victims suffered from
strangulation, but one was stabbed, one was hanged, and the others were suffocated.

control his image: He requested to be called the BTK Strangler, explaining that BTK

It was not uncommon to find semen at the scene of Rader s crimes, but at the time,
adequate forensic technology was just not available to collect and analyze samples

16. The Value Of Symbolic Analysts
The Value of Symbolic Analysts
Robert Reich categorizes America s workforce into three distinct groups, routine
producers, in person servers, and symbolic analysts. Reich defines the first two
groups as principally manual laborers, and the third group as people who work and
create value using their minds. This would include occupations such as engineers,
attorneys, scientists, professors, executives, et al. Symbolic analysts are objectively
and quantifiably more valuable than the other two groups combined. To establish an
operational definition of value, we recognize value as the amount of revenue and/or
opportunities an individual provides. The reason symbolic analysts command much
more wealth and are inherently more valuable than the ... Show more content on

They argue that without them, the CEOs would not have a working company to run.
While the union workers are technically not mistaken, they are however neglecting a
number of factors, the first being that an individual s compensation is directly
correlated with the amount of value that the individual brings to the corporation.
When we break down the responsibilities of a lowly sales associate, their only task
is to assist customers in purchasing items. An executive manages everything from
negotiating with suppliers, organizing facilities, creating new departments,
delegating tasks to aforementioned departments, et al. The real value that
executives add to the company is exponentially greater than that of the average
worker; this fact is quantifiable. Another issue that union workers do not take into
consideration is the fact that sales associates and other manual laborers in a
broader sense are largely expendable, as such is the nature of a low skill job. The
fact of the matter is that the minimum wage workers need their CEO more than their
CEO needs them. The brutal reality is that if workers are unsatisfied with their
wages the executives can simply replace them with people that are satisfied, leading
us to the issue of scarcity and surplus of labor supply.
The issue of scarcity is a basic concept in the study of economics, and furthers
contributes to the value of symbolic analysts. Reich discusses how demand for
symbolic analysts grows with the advent

Throughout time there have been many writers and poets. And with these many
writers and poets their work has been different in what they write about. And their
work has made an impact on society and on others. And yet in this time some
writers have influenced the work of others. Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg who
are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing writers
wrote pieces of work that are considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two
courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different.
Although they are different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitmans Song of
Myself and Allen Ginsbergs Howl have similarities right from the first page. The first
thing that they both have in common is the structure of their work. Both Howl and
Song of Myself have long lines and they keep like that. Having these long lines
makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of
steady rhythm so it was easy to read. Also another similarity Whitman had on
Ginsberg was at the beginning of each sentence. In Howl the beginning would
always start with who . In Song of Myself the first word of the line is Nor. This
would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about topics
against what other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality
/the human body and it scared off some of his readers. For example in Song of
Myself on page 28 29:

For decades, the business dealings of pharmaceutical companies and physicians has
been identified as a potential conflict of interest. Providers have an obligation to
their patients, and society as a whole through their work. It is my belief that the
majority of providers seek to do well by their patients and the majority of Americans
agree (Benson, Blendon, Hero, 2014, p. 1570). This good intention can be
overwhelmed by deeply rooted human behavioral tendencies despite any tangible
monetary value. Patients should reasonably expect that their providers are making
medical decisions based upon sound medical knowledge and not advertising material.

In the business ethics world, social responsibility is generally self imposed as a
competitive mechanism and conflicts of interest are discussed within Emerging
Business Ethics Issues in a recent and popular textbook on the subject by Ferrell,
Ferrell Fraedrich (2015). We will keep this in mind as we discuss the provider
pharmaceutical industry relationship. A relationship in which the physician is a public
figure bearing social responsibility and the pharmaceutical company is a business that
bears social responsibility in response to regulation.
In other words, the physician can experience a conflict of interest in placing personal
gain over the responsibility to her patient (Friedman, 1992, p. 245). In the same
instance, the pharmaceutical company would not experience the same conflict of
interest per se when it is operating within business parameters to influence the
physician s choice to gain profit through marketing. The pharmaceutical company
would be forgoing its fiduciary responsibility if it were not to engage in such
practices when leveraged as a business entity. Especially if actions are classified as
marketing expenses aimed at informing rather than influencing provider actions.
What is personal gain in this conflict of interest? The debate over what constitutes a
personal gain has continually been evaluated for decades. In 1967 Ruge described the

The wholesale value of equipment increased from $740 million in 1986 to $2.7
billion in 1999, where about 25% accounts for golf balls. According to my statistical
analysis, the sales will have grown to $5,22 billion in 20102. In the international
wholesale market, the value of the golf ball market was estimated at $1.5 billion.
Golf equipment ranks second in the national wholesale sales of sporting goods.
US and international markets for golf clubs moved to maturity in 1997 and there was
only modest growth in the early 2000, because most golfers already upgraded their
equipment and were waiting for major new innovations.
In any case, Ely Callaway did succeed in his efforts and BB driver and its sisters
became the best golf product of the century by golf equipment companies and Ely
Callaway was elected the most influential golf trade person of the 1990s.
Golf ball production also became a big business. Callaway decided to build own

Callaway made only two sorts of ball, the blue for soft feel and the red for firm

25. The Importance Of Public School And Public Schools
Public schools provide an environment where young people can discover who they
are meant to become. John Holt s essay, School Is Bad For Children emphasizes the
ways the public school system destroys a student s imagination and willingness to
learn. This is not the case for every school. Schools are often a safe place for
students to learn not only the academic material but, they are also places for students
to develop their talents while building a strong support system. The government can
not regulate every schoolto make sure each student is getting exactly what each
student deserves. While the generic system is easy to maintain and to teach, there is
no guarantee learning is occurring for the students. Public schools help each student
navigate their own minds by providing a general educationby which the students can
choose what they do with their knowledge after they graduate. Without
conventional public schooling, many students would not have the chance to learn,
schools can provide an adequate education regardless of the location of teaching,
and public schools are safe places for children with unidealistic family lives. In the
United States of America the gap between upper and lower class is growing and
public education provides an outlet from poverty. The amount of Americans living
in the middle class is decreasing. If the US decided to change the public school
system and reform schools to be exactly how Holt describes, only the wealthy would
be able to afford
26. Discretion In The Australian Criminal Justice System
Discretion is the ability to act based on an induvial assessment of a situation, rather
than having laws that attempt to dictate every possible situation. Discretion is a
fundamental principle in the Australian criminal justice system. It plays a key role in
multiple processes, including the investigation, bail, trial and in sentencing.
Discretion is beneficial to the criminal justice system but is not without reproach.
The investigation process relies heavily on discretion. The investigation of a crime
relies on the decision to report the crime. It is not uncommon for many crimes to go
unreported, leading to what is known as the dark figure of crime, an ABS survey
finding that only 36.6% of sexual assaults and 50.5% physically assaults were ...

28. Lidar Project
LiDAR is a remote sensing survey method that improved upon the advances of
laser altimeter data by being able to model fuel parameters. Models depicting forest
fire behavior are invaluable to resource managers. There are several forest canopy
structures that are particularly effective at modeling fire behavior (Peterson, 2013).
These canopy metrics include height, fuel weight, base height and bulk density
(Andersen et al, 2005). High resolution LiDAR technology enabled large areas of
forest to be measured three dimensionally (Sima et al, 2014). After the LiDAR data
were collected from either a stationary platform or mounted to an aircraft, statistical
regressions could develop numerous predictive models that mapped fuel parameters.

K means clustering works in this capacity by portioning n number of observations
into k number of clusters. Each n is associated with a k based on the mean. The
analysis is complete when each observation is assigned a cluster that is closest to its
arithmetic mean (Nekola, 2004). K means clustering results in several clusters which
can then be assigned to tree, shrub, understory or other related layers. The technology
used to create such DEM s began with early laser survey techniques. Remote sensing
of vegetation advanced significantly with the widespread implementation of laser
scanners. Laser altimeters mounted on aircraft were used to measure vegetation and
surface patterns. The early altimeters were pulsed lasers that could transmit and
receive several thousand pulses per second. A portable computer onboard the aircraft
collected the digital data from the altimeter. The data could later be analyzed to
determine patterns of vegetative cover, patchiness and vegetation height. In Weltz et
al (1994) tested laser altimeter derived canopy cover and vegetative height against
field data made using the line intercept transect method (Eberhardt, 1978). Weltz et al
determined that the altimeter measurements were not significantly different from the
field data. However, canopy cover was consistently overestimated by under 0.3
meters. Early airborne laser scanners were effective at measuring stand and canopy
height (Gaveau, 2003). Mean

The increasing use of structural biology to improve vaccines. Introduction to vaccines
Where does vaccine derive from?
The word vaccine derives from Variolae Vaccinae, Variolae is the name for small
pox and Vaccinae is from the latin adjective vaccinus meaning of or from cows, from
the latin noun vacca meaning cow, therefore meaning smallpox of the cow.
Who created vaccines?
Vaccines were introduced by Edward Jennerwho created the first successful vaccine
against smallpox. He discovered vaccine by his observation that milkmaids who
previously have caught the cowpox virus which is caused by touching an infected
cows udders which developed the same pustule on their hands. Cowpox is similar to

Diabetes is a chronic condition involving glucose in the blood. It is caused by a
problem in the way the body makes or uses insulin. Insulin, a hormone that is
necessary for glucose to move from the blood to the inside of the cells. The body
cannot use the insulin for energy if it cannot get into the cells. Diabetes occurs when
the body has too much blood glucose due to either the pancreas does not produce
enough insulin or the body cannot effectively use the insulin produced.
In type 2 diabetes (formerly called non insulin dependent diabetes or adult onset
diabetes), the pancreas continues to produce insulin, sometimes even at higher than
normal levels. However, the body develops resistance to the effects of insulin, so ...

In the play An Inspector Calls , Priestley included 2 main themes: the general contrast
and responsibility. The first theme: general contrast was perhaps the most applied
throughout the play, such as in: the young age vs. the old age, the upper class vs. the
lower class, the reality vs. the predictions of the characters, in addition to socialism
vs. capitalism. The young characters: Sheila and Eric sympathized passionately with
Eva unlike the elders: Gerald, Mr. and Ms. Birling. At an unpredictable move, the
young ones turned out to be matured enough to realize their guilt, to the extent of
them arguing and shouting at their own narrow minded parents. The elders their
parents in specific, believed that their social status deflected them... Show more

The second contrast lies between the upper and lower class. Priestley
differentiated Eva Smith from Daisy Renton; for each symbolizes a different
social status Eva represented the struggling workers while Daisy represented the
pregnant prostitutes. Synecdoche was used in Edna, the maid and Eva Smith to
signify the working class, and the lowest class using Daisy Renton and her unborn
baby John. Mrs. Birling kept lowering the importance of girls in lower classes by
saying Girls from that class to indicate that she remained entirely untouched by Eva
s death, to extent of her ignoring and underestimating how desperate she was for
love, money and assistance. The other contrast content was rather ironic; it s
regarding Mr. Birling s judgments. Priestly used allusion to refer to the World War
2 and to the Titanic s famous sinking; in which he denied that both would happen; I
m talking as a hard headed man of practical man of business ...I say there isn t a
chance of war referring to World War 2 that actually happened and regarding the
Titanic unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable that also sank. This emphasizes what a
narrow minded, pompous snub Mr. Birling was. The final contrast could be presented
between socialism and capitalism. Mr. Birling

38. The Blues Music Essay examples
Different from other forms of music, blues was only recorded by memory and
passed down through generations through live performances. The blues began in the
North Mississippi Delta post Civil War times. It was heavily influenced by African
roots, field hollers, ballads, church music and rhythmic dance tunes called jump ups.
This eventually developed into music that was set up in a call and response way so
that the singer would sing a line and he would then respond with his guitar. The blues,
a uniquely American art form, was born on the dusty street corners of the Deep
South in the late 1800s. An evolution of West African music brought to the United
States by slaves, created the blues which was a way for black people in the south...

This type of repetition is very common in blues composition and often resembles a
form of story telling as blues music often provides an additional narrative within
the song usually dealing with the hardships of life. Similar to the drums, the
remainder of the instruments come together to create tension, which is then
followed by release. The guitar often works in unison with the vocals, acting as a
lead in the composition. Lastly, blues songs are usually set up in a 12 bar structure,
which is divided into three segments of four bars. These 12 bars are generally made
up of three chords, whose main notes are based on the first, fourth, and fifth notes of
an eight note scale. Additionally, one may find certain notes that are slightly flatted,
which are known as blue notes . Blues songs are typically played in a 4/4 time
signature, meaning that four beats are found in each measure.
The blues is home to many world famous artists such as Riley B. King, also known
as B.B King, and McKinley Morganfield, also known as Muddy Waters. These
artists were two very good examples of what the blues is meant to incorporate and
their legacy has and will live long passed their deaths. B.B King is an American

Every commercial appeals to something; whether its nature, guidance or even
attention. People have almost never notice this except when they are browsing
through a magazine and notice a Calvin Klein add. When a commercial is showing
bras, panties, and underwear most of the time the company is using the appeals to
sex. This is completely obvious just by looking at Calvin Klein ads. Some
commercials sell products that look too sexual that it makes the general public
uncomfortable. the ads from Dolce Gabbana sometimes can come to people s mind.
Most of these ads have been so sexualized it makes family time awkward. Most
common commercial that uses the appealof sex is Victoria s Secret.
Advertising appeals try to use people s emotions to attract a certain type of

All that is human is troubled by their failure to benefit except by Death s summons.
The portal of the grave is their only means of escape.
Some said the disadvantages of the poor were their own making. Many believed
that the working poor were not fully human, but a bestial and inferior species,
unlike themselves, specifically supplied by Providence as servants through whose
labour they ran profitable enterprises. The poor were seen as a raw material in the
same class as wool and cotton. They were cheap to employ and easy to replace.
Those that looked down on workers failed to see that working conditions in textile
mills were why workers were afflicted with conditions for which no treatment existed.
These early morning people move in procession through the streets, uniting with
others at street junctions to form broader streams, merging with other streams as they
neared the mill to form a grand current of humanity closing on the massive iron gates
of the mill that were symbols of imprisonment. Once inside the gates, workers fanned
out to go to various work stations to work as machine minders in the manufactory.
This was the common condition of men, women, and children in the hard textile
country of Yorkshire s West Riding. The characters of Yorkshire folk were forged in
the crucibles of harsh terrain and exacting industrial environments.

45. Blackfoot People Vs Inuit People
I have learned many interesting facts about the Inuit and the Blackfoot people. The
Inuit and Blackfoot people had an interesting way of surviving. Both dressed
differently, both had contact with the Europeans, and they hunted different animals to
survive.
The two tribes both dressed differently, I was actually surprised about because they
both lived in the same time period. For example, the Blackfoot people didn t where as
much clothing, and the Inuit people wore a lot of clothing such as huge winter coats.
The Blackfoot people wore more of summer clothing because the weather was
almost always sunny. Also, the Inuit people wore big heavy coats and pants so they
didn t freeze in behalf of the cold weather. The two groups obviously

4. CLARITY. In order for our writing to be clear there are some common discursive
elements that the user must avoid. Some of those elements have relevance in writing
but they would only confuse the reader in smaller work. As the Style Guide for The
Economist states: Clarity of writing usually follows clarity of thought . Clarity
conveys readers comprehending our message effortlessly; writingproperly involves
successful communication.
Examples:

4.3.2 SYNTACTICAL The syntactical ambiguity is when words can be

47. Cabbage Vendor By Natasha Trethewey Summary
I.Analysis of Cabbage Vendor by Natasha Trethewey from Domestic Work
In Cabbage Vendor written by Natasha Trethewey, a woman talks about her
gardening and cooking of cabbage. She seems to be selling some of her cabbage to
a man and his first request is that he wants everything to be natural. He watches her
through a peep hole as she gets the cabbage together for the man. The cabbage made
me think as if she is getting herself together for the man. This sounds like a type of
symbolism as if he was admiring her, but he wants her to be a natural woman. In
America, most men want the woman that they are with to be natural in every way
and still be beautiful. Although the woman might be beautiful natural, some woman
feel beautiful once their beauty is enhanced by something. Beauty can be enhanced
by makeup, hair relaxers, and even plastic surgery. Therefore, for a man to want
you to be natural, you cannot have any make up, hair relaxers, and definitely not
any plastic surgery. In Cabbage Vendor written by Natasha Trethewey, a man uses
symbolism to express his wants of a natural woman and a woman just wants to add a
little spice in her life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first word in the poem is natural and the woman s response is What he want

What does the man want from her in the long run? How can she benefit the man?
These are both things men normally think about when choosing a lady they admire.
In the beginning of the poem, the man seemed to be just a costumer, but he began
watching her. This could have been what some pesky costumers do, but I saw it as
more than that. He saw how she carried herself and began to see her as more. Instead
of watching how she handled the food, he watched
48. Organizational Structure And Functional Structure
How do you think your chosen company created their organizational structure? How
is the organizational structure reflected in the company culture?
The company I have chosen is the Department of Navy created their Functional
Structure which was based of learned lessons from past military employment history.
The Navy s functional structure provides organization according to a jobs or an
individual s purpose within the organization. Departments that focus on a single
function or goal most easily recognize functional organizations. For instance, an
organization with a marketing department, a human resources department, a research
and development department and so forth, operates according to functional
organization.
The functional structure provides employees, as well as their appropriate
departments, with a clear objective and purpose for their work. As an example,
employees within a marketing department know that their job is marketing and, as a
result, those employees can focus on improving their marketing work and even
specialize in a specific area of marketing. On the other hand, functional structure can
create divisions between departments if a conflict develops between departments.
How is the company able to keep all the employees up to date on company strategies
and tactics within the current company dynamics? Is it effective?
Management sets objectives and charts a course of action so as to be proactive rather
than reactive to the dynamics of the business
49. Transformation Of King Ashoka
King Ashoka, also known as Ashoka the Great , was the beloved third emperor of the
ancient Indian Maurya Empire, a predominantly vast Hindu kingdom that stretched
all the way from modern day Afghanistan in the west to Bangladesh in the east,
including parts of Iran and most of the Indian sub continent. Ashoka ruled from
approximately 268 BCE to 232 BCE, an era characterized by one of the largest
religious expansions in ancient India.2 In 261 BCE, King Ashoka invaded and
conquered the neighboring kingdom of Kalinga, in one of the most fiercest and
bloodiest battles in ancient Indian history.3 The mass casualties and staggering loss
of life caused a profound and drastic change in King Ashoka, as he was so deeply
affected by the death and destruction of war. He sought peace/non violence and found
Buddhism, which he embraced whole heartedly. King Ashoka s personal journey and
transformation not only affected him, but also helped transform an entire empire and
inspire a world religion. King Ashoka was both influential and instrumental in the
expansion of Buddhism throughout the Maurya Empireand beyond its borders. King
Ashoka quickly renounced military expansionism and began to follow the teachings
of Buddha and also incorporate Buddhist philosophy, teachings, and principles into
his governing style. He ruled fairly and justly, stating that the power of love is greater
than the power of the sword. 4 Initially, Hinduism and Jainism were the dominant
religions of the land,
50. Becoming A Deeper Enrollment Service Partnership
Emily joined us at the end of June 2016 as our Advisement Registration and New
Student Initiative Coordinator. Emily had the opportunity to shadow the outgoing A
R coordinator to meet campus partners and student advisors, observe how the
program worked, learn our orientation process and system and get some hands on,
basic level experience with our program. During the last 8 months, Emily has spent
time meeting, building and collaborating with our campus partners and forging a
personal connection with them. Emily is observing UMD campus culture and
learning about the history of SIT programs, and our campus partnerships, to help
shape future direction of SIT programming.

Emily also arranged to have specific offices represented at a resource fair in the
lobby of MPAC for students to ask additional questions or get information before the
A R program began. Moving the spring A R to MPAC allowed the SIT presentation
to be added back in, in the past, because of space this presentation was removed.
Putting this presentation back into the program was a definite win.
Emily is already instituting the following changes to fall 2017 A R. First, Emily
eliminated the concept of an invitation to A R and instead designed an A R guide that
provides necessary account initiation and registration steps but it also provides
additional information for incoming students to review. Even though our proposal for
an overnight orientation program was put on hold, Emily began developing ways to
incorporate orientation back into our Advisement Registration program. First item
tackled, changing the name of our program. Beginning Fall 2018, our program will
be named Orientation, Advisement Registration. Choosing the name was the easy
part, making the actual changes to the program became trickier. However, Emily
continues to work her relationships and has been able to hang on to the commitment
for a 2.5 hour orientation program. This orientation component will intentionally
create ways for students to meet and make social connections, to learn areas at UMD
that can ease the transition for students, to prepare them for their advising sessions by
providing time to
51. Phillis Wheatley Analysis
Anne Bradstreet once wrote, If we had no winter, the spring would not be so
pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so
welcome. This quote summarizes much of what her and fellow female writer Phillis
Wheatley s lives were like during their fights for social change. Throughout their
lives, these women were forced to live through challenges and injustices on levels
that are unimaginable to many of members of today s society. With the Bradstreet
and Wheatley did much to counter these challenges, even directly addressing the
masses in their writings as forms of protests. This is precisely the element of which
both unites and distinguishes the two women on a very grand scale. In Phillis

the muses of the famed Greeks being women and successful poets themselves,
Bradstreet hopes to argue that women were important and proficient in the trade
that men laid claim to in her time. In all of her piece, Bradstreet s main idea that
she hopes to convey is that since women have been such staples in the art for so
long that it only makes sense for them to be allowed to still. While both authors write
in ways that express radical ideas for their respective time periods, they were sure to
write in methods that did not serve to be inflammatory to their largely opposing
audiences. This is the point in which their differences truly shine: their execution of

52. Is Australia A Good International Citizen Essay
Is Australia a Good International Citizen ? Does it matter? Discuss with reference to
at least one case study?
Good international citizenship is a term that has come in and out of prevalence in
Australia since one of its chief advocates, former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth
Evans, earmarked it as being one of Australia s foreign policy priorities. Politicians
and scholars have debated amongst themselves on the significance of good
international citizenship, or whether such a thing exists at all. Evan s wrote that good
international citizenship is not the foreign policy equivalent of boy scout good deeds
(Evans 1989, pp. 12). Rather, it reflects a growing interdependence between states, the
spread of globalization and the fact that many of the threats states face today are ones
that can only be tackled multilaterally. This essay will determine the importance of

The concept of being a good international citizen departs from this view and has us
believe that states should be cognisant of and accountable to in the conduct of their
international politics and foreign policy... (Langlois, pp. 221). However, there are
many barriers to the creation of this cosmopolitan world order and its promotion of
human rights. At the core of international relations theory, it is held that all states are
considered sovereign. The state has the authority to govern within its territory without
the interference of outside states or actors. However, as Linklater writes,
contemporary economic and political conditions require support for forms of
cosmopolitanism that erode the powers of the state (2002, pp.142). Thus, in recent
years the pursuit of humanitarian intervention as a way to protect and promote
human rights has rendered the concept of sovereignty as being conditional upon a
state s willingness to protect those within

the work drawn from observations have been poorly executed and negatively

as their practice rarely have any factual counterarguments for the numerous holes in
the research methods or their reliance on mere observation. Astrology began in

Penn and Teller conducted an experiment that measured the satisfaction of a
personality description that was written out for every individual in a classroom.
The general response was that of a positive reaction to the description, meaning that
majority of the students deemed their report to be fair and relatively reflective of
their personality. The professor then revealed to the class that each student had
received the same description with no variation whatsoever. This experiment
exposes modern astrology and horoscope work for what it really is. A large blanket
personality statement that majority of the population will accept as true. Modern
astrology will take a generalization and dole it out to any uneducated reader of a
gossip column or newspaper. The reader is amazed by the accuracy and continues to

entertaining is not a science, rather a cut and dry statement that makes the ordinary

information and instead focuses on the cultivation of a large audience with money to
spend. Astrologists and a sympathetic community do however provide counter
arguments as to why Astrology should be taken seriously. They argue that their
methodology is no different from other
54. Internal Controls and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 Essay
In order to be successful in business, a company must be able to track their assets.
This tracking system is typically done by a bookkeeper and must be reliable in
order to be effective. The way a company ensures their financial records are reliable
is by setting up a system of internal controls. Internal controls allow a company to
protect its assets from fraud and theft as well as ensuring records are kept accurately
by reducing errors and irregularities (Keisco, Kimmel and Weygandt, 2008). Internal
controls work by assigning responsibility, separating duties to provide checks and
balances, hiring an independent verification agent and through the use of technology
and physical controls. In many instances, internal controls are... Show more content

al., 2008). Internal controls are regulated by the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. This
act assigns responsibility for a company s internal controls on its executives and
directors (Kiesco et.al., 2008). This assignment of responsibility forces the company
to use effective internal controls by making a certain group responsible. The act also
established the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board which regulates the
activities of auditors. Together, assigning responsibility and defining the standards
of auditors, the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 helps to safeguard a company s
investments, assets and future successes by discouraging fraud and theft. A company
that follows the requirements of the act insures to investors that their reporting is
accurate. However, a company whose internal controls show deficiencies, or who
chooses not to follow the Sarbanes Oxley requirements provides no insurance to
investors that their reporting is accurate. This would cause investors to sell their
stock and new investors to avoid the company because of the potential that reports
are inaccurate. Stock prices would, in turn, suffer as confidence in the company s
financial practices and reporting is questioned. With all the insurances provided by
internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley, a company still faces issues with accuracy in
bookkeeping records and accounting. The human element required intrinsically by the

This report form 1929, focused on the issue of overcrowding in the federal prison
system and how federal judges in Minnesota indicated a need of more federal
prison farms in the northern part of the state. Barstow reasoned that a prison farm
could bring income and jobs to the town to make up for the economic fall of the
quarry and railroad. The town had a piece of land that had not been cleared across
the Kettle Rover to the east of the Sandstone that Barstow thought would be perfect.
Barstow recruited the help of Senator Adolph Larson, Dr. Homer p. Dredge, and
businessman John F. Hawley. These four men, later known as the prison farm four,
called a town meeting and formed a committee with a goal of obtaining a federal farm
for Sandstone. The U.S. department of Justice had already announced intent to build
a new prison farm in Minnesota, but Sandstone was not the only town bidding for a
