The Planet Jay Comes From The Earth
The planet Jay comes from is known as Mir to its inhabitants.
In this universe, there are several sapient species, who originate both in outer space and on Mir.
The human equivalent, mortal species are lovek, who live down on Mir and, at the time of Jay s
entry into Ryslig, are just starting to venture into outer space. However, besides lovek there are
several species that should be discussed in some detail for a proper understanding of the setting.
Most immortal species in the setting fall under the umbrella of Spirits, based on the fact they are
composed of Spirit (substances relating to magic and the soul) rather than Flesh (you know, meat).
The universe is dualist and most living things within it fall under one of the two broad categories
of Spirit and Flesh.
First, there are the stareczi, who live in deep space and generally stay away from Mir. They re
something akin to sapient fungus (or possibly slimes). They have two instars (life stages), which
dictate their place in society.
The first instar is a haploid, unfused individual that grows from a spore. Unfused stareczi live in
loose groups of about five to ten individuals, though pods as large as twenty five are not
uncommon. The second instar is trickier.
The second instar of stareczi is something between a proper life stage and pair bonding. At
maturity, two haploid stareczi fuse into a single, diploid individual who is capable of sporing.
Fused stareczi are solitary and live away from others of their

Wildcat Motivation
Wildcat (Felis silvestris): A small native Eurasian and African cat that is typically gray with black
markings and a bushy tail, noted for its ferocity. However, being a Northwestern Wildcat is more
than being fierce, it would put me by one of the world s greatest cities and on a campus where I
can not only explore my future career paths, but also cultivate my interests outside the classroom.
Challenge ... opportunity ... achievement! These are three strong ideals that have led me to
Northwestern. I visited Northwestern last year and was impressed with its diversity, atmosphere,
and resources. On a lakeshore campus, students at Northwestern represent global citizens who are
leaders of tomorrow and will make differences in the world. Northwestern

The Realm Of Classical Music
The realm of classical music is a relatively veiled in the sphere of popular culture, but if you take
the time to scour through the beautiful, sometimes hundreds of years old pieces, you will be
surprised by the magnificence and allure that the classical music genre can offer. There are three
categories of classical musicthat can be observed throughout the extensive universe of classical
pieces, absolute music, program music, and characteristic music or character pieces.
Absolute music is primarily instrumental and doesn t present a general theme or idea, and is
merely music for music s sake (Morgan). The term absolute music was first used in 1846 in a
program to Beethoven s Ninth Symphony that was written by Richard Wagner, although the idea
had been created in the late 1700 s by German Romanticist authors (Apel). Absolute music does not
tell a story or convey any message external to the music itself, but still produces beautiful ravishing
tunes. Although it is not as common as program or characteristic music, it is still hiding in
prominent classical pieces. An exceptional example of mainstream absolute music that I enjoy is
Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo by Johann Pachelbel, more commonly known as
simply Canon in D, or Pachelbel s Canon. Pachelbel was a German composer who was most
commonly recognized for his organ pieces. He composed Canon in D in 1680 during the Baroque
era of classical music, an era characterized by heavily exaggerated and

Is The Moral Quandary In Merck And The Waterway Visual...
The moral quandary in Merck and the waterway visual deficiency was whether the organization
should seek after the examination which may bring about benefit, or pick the more secure choice,
that was going for the benefit as opposed to inquiring about the medication. The medication was
considered to cure the destructive and impeding ailment called the stream visual deficiency that
were situated in territories of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Leaders of the
organization had issues about the exploration that was being led. The issue was that the patients
couldn t bear the cost of it, essentially in light of the territory the medications were waiting to be
controlled. This implied no benefit for the organization. Taking a gander at Merck s site, the
organization uncovers its incentive as: Our center esteems are driven by a yearning to enhance
life, accomplish logical magnificence, work with the most elevated norms of honesty, grow access
to our items and utilize a differing workforce that esteems cooperation. Improving people groups
general life is the principle objective of the organization not simply profiting. It could be a
troublesome choice for Merck to choose on the off chance that it needed to contribute on the
examination on account of the exceptionally focused market, and the dread of disappointment. Be
that as it may, from what the organization has as its center esteem, it should go for the production
of the medication in spite of the absence of benefit.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Onchocerciasis is a Neglected
tropical disease caused by the parasitic worm Onchocerca volvulus. It is transmitted through
repeated bites by blackflies of the genus Simulium. The disease is called River Blindness because
the blackfly that transmits the infection lives and breeds near fast flowing streams and rivers and
the infection can result in blindness. In addition to visual impairment or blindness, onchocerciasis
causes skin disease, including nodules under the skin or debilitating itching. Worldwide
onchocerciasis is second only to trachoma as an infectious cause of blindness.

The Importance Of Change In Video Game Development
A change in financial state when I left the video game development industry wasn t the biggest
stressor as I had saved up money and my wife was also working her small business which was
brought in enough income to maintain a lifestyle as we were closing down expenses of living in
Montreal. However, the time I spend in developing a small business came to a halt after having
to move my grandmother in law, and my in laws from two different states and place them in our
home in Arizona. The distraction was necessary to reduce expenses for both sets of family
members as they were in Virgina and New Hampture respectfully. My wife and I learned how to

Then the 2015 Stock Market happen. Not one, but two major drops occurred that showed the
same signs of the 2007 2008 bear market that led to the Great Recession. I lost money trying to
trade the waves as the price action continued to be choppy like a great sea storm. I didn t know
that I was bleeding money as the coins where falling out of my pocket from transaction fees due
to my stop loss orders being triggered, a method I called the seat belt when a secerity starts to go
the wrong way.
The biggest stressor was a when the earnings season occured and I had been following the fall of
retail (brick and morter). Companies where continuing to report horrible earning reports. I placed
a virtual trade on one of the retailers and I was right. The payout was huge. I felt that the trend
was across the industry, so I found the next retailer within the same subsector, clothing, as it was
another mild winter, and they company sold winter clothing for the season just like the previous
trade. This time with real money. There were a surprise earnings. The company beat expectations
by a long shot. I knew in my mind that this was not correct. But I had lost couple thousand dollars
just on that one trade. I had just felt a significant financial change. I watched my account drop
nearly ten grand over the course of 2015. I didn t have that much to play with, but the chopping

Electronic Distribution And The Music Industry
Millions of Dollars are spent in the music industry everyday. Thousands of songs are being played
everyday in different parts of the world whether be on your phone, computer, TV, or radio. Behind
every song there is a lot of money, work and a marketing strategy. Strategies that have changed
throughout time because of the increasing advances in technology.
One of those technologies is the change of songs unto a digital format and online streaming against
the classical CD by CD sell and distributions technique. These changes created a huge change in the
music market. Are those changes in digital distributions and online streaming truly benefiting the
music industry and the Artists? Or is one swindling the other?
This leads us to another issue that affects the music companies and record labels which is the
copyright infractions occasioned by the new access to digital material. The illegal practice of
copying music and sharing it has caused many problems to the music industry and artist not only
for the money aspect on side of the record labels but also to the musicians who spend many hours
composing to create a master piece and then these are download for free and re distributed illegally
by web sites and apps such as LimeWire, Ares, BitTorrent, and many others.
Alan Greenblatt mentioned in his article Future of the Music Industry , computer users illegally

Paul Revere s Ride Compare And Contrast
The poem Paul Revere s Ride makes Paul look like a hero. What people don t know is that his
story wasn t very true. Longfellow s poem and the true story were very different but they had
some similarities. Let s get into comparing the truth and the story. In the poem it states that Paul
and his friend were the only people there. The plan was for Paul to wait on the other side of the
shore while his friend hung up lanterns to show that they were coming by land or sea. Paul was
ready to go as soon as he saw the lanterns. His horse went so fast that sparks started flying
everywhere. Revere was the only rider as he rode through every town warning people. He was
successful in letting everyone know the war was starting. Everyone was sure Paul

The Importance Of Technology In Technology
Technology advancement is prompting our lives, our economy and different countries and change
in technology is influencing business, government and every individual. Many MNCs and main
start ups have acquires companies and Romanian researcher has contributes in different field of
technology and many companies are taking country base for staring operation due to some good
positive factors like legislation, geography and, allowing knowledge transfer and growing general
tech interest (Cooper and Wahab, 2005). However, being at good position does not mean that
country should rest if there is gap in technology, there are other countries which rapidly upgrading
their technology like Asian countries in social media, Information technology and machinery in the
production house. So updated and innovation in technology are important for Romania as the
technological competition is increasing. The technology shift is upgrading and reshaping the
industries and society and in addition, advance technologies are helping the companies to reach
domestic and international market thus, sales are increasing all over the world. Companies are
selling the technology to other countries, to expand and earning more profit. This technology storm
not only helping the industries, but government sectors where it is used to increase the efficiency
of the employees like for more efficient tax collection, E government initiatives to see that there

Some More Facts About Pediatric Speech Therapy
Some more facts about pediatric speech therapy The parents need to be very observant when it
comes to noticing the all over development of the child. Many times the parents get too upset about
the child s development regarding his responding to the various sounds and noises. Child specialists
say that it is crucial for the childto respond to any conversation or soundin children speech therapy.
In many cases, the parents are not able to detect defects in the speech of the child. By the time they
realize it may be too late. In the case of such problems and defects, the first point is that the parents
should not panic. They have to handle the whole situation with a lot of patience. They should
immediately consult a child expert who works on pediatric speech therapy. Any speech oriented
problem can be cured. But that shall take time. One cannot lose patience.
The critical developmental stages of children can be categorized into too many stages. They mark
major junctures of the child s development regarding the baby s maturity. The children
developmental stages range according to age. At this juncture, they have to acquire consultation
from some physician or child specialist who can give them the solution accordingly. They do not
want to falter or create risk for the child regarding health. These tender stages need guidance and
proper tutoring when it comes to cognitive development. One needs to provide them the best
solutions to the problems of the child which is a part of

My Thoughts On The Skills Essay
Introduction
In my essay, I will be reflecting on my thoughts and feelings on the skill practiced on the DVD.
The essay will also be detailing the working alliance, the relevant skills, models, and theoretical
principles. The essay will be supported with references of the books that I used to develop the
discussion.
I will be concentrating more on the skills that I use on the video. I will discuss how important they
are in counselling relationship. I will also define some other skills I used in the video accordingly.
Main body
The beginning stage I felt the nerve kicked in as I sat down and as soon as I realised the video had
started rolling but I managed to calm down and was able to compose myself.
In the beginning of a session, my main concern as the counsellor was to build and establish a
working relationship with my client (working alliance). As the counsellor I needed to develop
the kind of relationship in which my client is encouraged to work. I tried to negotiate a contract
with the client. I believe that in doing so, I should be able to clarify and define my client s
problem and assess whether or not counselling is likely to help specific needs and also whether or
not I am will be able to work with the client to help her achieve what she want. In other words, as
the counsellor my main aim was the intended outcome and what both my client and I want to
achieve. (Sue Culley, Integrative counselling skills in action).

Cangrelor, a potent intravenous, reversible, platelet P2Y12 inhibitor, was recently approved by
both the United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines
Agency (EMA) as an adjunct for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The approval was based
on Cangrelor versus Standard Therapy to Achieve Optimal Management of Platelet Inhibition
(CHAMPION) PHOENIX (1), a multi center, double dummy, double blind trial, which randomized
11,145 patients with stable angina, non ST segment elevation acute coronary syndromeor ST
segment elevation myocardial infarction to receive cangrelor or clopidogrel at the time of PCI.
CHAMPION PHOENIX (1) demonstrated that cangrelor significantly reduced the rate of ischemic
events without increasing severe bleeding. In the original analysis, bleeding was site reported by
the blinded investigators according to pre specified definitions and was not adjudicated. While
the EMA accepted this approach, during FDA review, the sponsor and the FDA independently re
evaluated bleeding in a post hoc, non blinded manner. This evaluation included potential bleeding
data not necessarily captured on the bleeding case report form (CRF) by the investigator, and
findings were categorized and interpreted according to jointly agreed criteria based on previously
published bleeding classifications. For example, there was a field in the CRF called drop in

History And Struggles Of Puerto Rican People
I will bring awareness to the history and struggles of the Puerto Rican people. I will relate the
struggles of not being recognized in society, being discriminated against, and not being able to vote
unless living in the states despite the fact we are born United States citizens. These conditions are
identical to what Zinn states happened to slaves in his book, A People History of the United States.
(Chapter 6) I will also speak on the advancements Puerto Ricans have made today as compared to
40 years ago, and how it has influenced me today as a Puerto Rican women. Puerto Ricois a small
island in the Caribbean. It was first settled around 1000 A.D. by the Taino Indians and called
Borinquen. In 1493, Christopher Columbus claimed it for Spain but it wasn t until the arrival of
Juan Ponce de Leon in 1508 that Spain began to colonize and rule over the land and its native
people. The Taino Indians believed the Spanish colonizers had divine powers and to test their
theory they captured a Spaniard and drowned him. It is said that they watched him for several days
until they were sure he was dead. When they learned that the Spanish were mortal, they revolted
against them but with no success. As punishment, Ponce De Leon ordered 6,000 shot; survivors
fled the mountains or left the island. After being settled by Spain and being enslaved, the native
population was nearly wiped out by disease and war. The Spanish then began brining African slaves

Flag Desecration The American flag is one of the most recognizable symbols this country has
today. As children, we learn in school to cross our heart with our right hand and recite the pledge of
allegiance to the United States of America, while facing the flag, a beloved symbol. As a soldier
in the United States Army, I proudly wear a flag as a part of my Army Combat Uniform (ACU).

Opponents of the Flag Desecration Amendment, propose reasons that make sense in not passing
such an amendment and in doing so would lead to an ultimate betrayal of the freedoms granted
to us by the First Amendment. In passing the Flag Desecration Amendment, it would mean that
if a person wanted to express political freedom of speech by desecrating the flag they could not.
A proposed Amendment would undermine the First Amendment. As Americans we are granted
many freedoms and the freedom of speech is a major one, so if congress were to say that a
person could not express themselves and to have it in writing then what else would change.
Opponents also make a point that flag burning is rare. They say that is doesn t happen every
year, but when it has that it was to express political speech as the Supreme Court held in 1989.
Opponents also say that once freedoms such as this be taken away then what s to say what else
congress will regulate and subject to violations. Anna Ross, form the How a Member Decides to
Vote module mentions, that while it might make us mad to see our flag being desecrated, it is not
good enough reason to weaken one of the most important principals of democracy.
The module simulation was very informative; the how a member decides to vote module shows
the steps that are taken by a person in congress on voting for such a change. The process is

driving force that makes him unstoppable and stubborn. It is also forgotten that his special
operation training contributes to instinct to take lives (Norkey). But in our world and the

easy for him to permanently eliminate criminals (Norkey). He can be seen as a hero because he
left the good people in his city to live lives with less fear of criminals coming back to hurt them.
The way he takes out criminals is a significant grey area in who is character is (which usually

The United States Department of Labor Laws
This paper will discuss the United States Department of Labor laws. Americans are protected under
these laws from injustices that may occur in the work place. There are over a hundred different
laws that have been created by the government and that companies are mandated to adhere by.
One law that many employers teeter the line on crossing on day to day bases is the Fair Labor
Standards Act. This law prescribes standards for wages and overtime pay, which affect most
private and public employment. The act is administered by the Wage and Hour Division. It
requires employers to pay covered employees who are not otherwise exempt at least the federal
minimum wage and overtime pay of one and one half times the regular rate of pay. For
nonagricultural operations, it restricts the hours that children under age 16 can work and forbids
the employment of children under age 18 in certain jobs deemed too dangerous. For agricultural
operations, it prohibits the employment of children under age 16 during school hours and in
certain jobs deemed too dangerous (Summary of the Major Laws of the Department of Labor). I
personally have held positions that I thought were promotions but once in the actual job found out
that I am working twenty to thirty hours more a week and in hindsight bringing in less income.
This happens to employee s everyday and employers make these employees salary so that they do

Before discussing the structure, conduct and recent performance of the UK banking sector, it is

with the collapse of the housing bubble in the US, as borrowers were no longer able to meet their
financial obligations and as consequence many of these subprime mortgages became default and
the market became illiquid while banks were struggling to obtain funds which resulted into
devastating losses for banks and mortgage lenders. Through securitization many of these loans were

The Effect Of Benzyl Group Of Tus Strengthened The...
The 1H NMR titration experiment revealed that the benzyl group of TUs strengthened the
intermolecular interactions toward an organophosphonate (Figure 3). It has been known that the
chemical shift of thiourea N H changes according to the degree of hydrogen bond with an acceptor
(i.e., DMMP), and its association constant (Ka) can be obtained by non linear regression analysis
(Figure 3a).18 The 1H NMR spectra of TU 1, 2, 4, or 8 in chloroform d (~100 mM) indicate that
the chemical shift of the N H protons shifted downfield with increasing amount of DMMP up to 80
equivalents, confirming the formation of the TU DMMP complex through hydrogen bonding
(Figure 3b). In the 1H NMR titration experiment, proton peak shifting shows deferent shapes...

To support this hypothesis, the TU s chemical shift changes were measured by varying its
concentration in chloroform d (the Supporting Information). Indeed, the presence of a N phenyl
group induced self aggregation to a greater extent; the degree of peak shifts (self aggregation)
appeared in the order of TU 8 1 4 2, corresponding to the hydrogen bond donor strength. Thus we
may conclude that the incorporation of a phenyl group render a TU more acidic or strong in
hydrogen bond and also promotes more self aggregation. Figure 3. Calculated structure between 4
and DMMP by hydrogen bonding and CH ПЂ interaction.
Although the decreased interaction of TUs 1 and 8 with DMMP than TUs 2 and 4, respectively,
can be explained by the phenyl s adverse effect, it is still not clear why N benzyl substituted TU 4
is better than unsubstituted TU 2 (or TU 8 better than TU 1). Since a N benzyl substituted TU has a
similar donor strength as that of N alkyl substituted TU, we suspect that a secondary interaction
may exist between TU 4 DMMP in order to have a larger association constant. To gain further
insight into the binding mechanism between N benzyl substituted TU 4 and DMMP, density
functional theory (DFT) calculation was performed using B3LYP functional with empirical
dispersion of Grimme (B3LYP D3BJ) and d3 basis set employing the Gaussian0920 suite of

The Spanish Conquest Of The West Conquests Case Study
The Spanish conquest of the West Indies was a strategic economic plan coordinated by the desires
of three parties. Christopher Columbus knew the Spanish crown was in desperate need of a trade
route to India. When Columbus reached the West Indies it became clear to him that obtaining gold
from the natives, peacefully or forcefully, would be an easy source of wealth. The crown, pleased
with Columbus findings, funded further expeditions which eventually opened the opportunity for
merchants to make economic gains in the West Indies. The Spanish crown quickly lost interest in a
trading route to India as voyages to America continued to supply not only wealth but labor and land
for the Spanish to rule over. Merchants back in Spainalso helped fund the conquests by supplying
equipment, tools, and slaves in return for gold. These multiple interests all allowed the Spanish to
exploit the natives of the West Indies for their own financial gain with no remorse for life or
morality. Although Christopher Columbusfirst voyage was poorly funded, due to the high risk
involved, he made sure to show excitement in his letters to the queen: I made ready three ships,
very suited for such an undertaking, and I set out from that port, well furnished with very many
supplies and with many seamen... (Selected Writings From Iberia and Latin America, 1480 1840, p.

The Theory Of Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory
Albert Bandura is one of the most influential psychologist in history, best known for his famous
Bobo Doll Experiment. From this experiment, Bandura developed his Social Learning Theory, the
theory that we learn from one another through observation.
To prove his theory, Bandura used children to see if they would imitate a modal who showed
aggressive behavior toward a Bobo doll. The subjects were 36 boys and 36 girls from the Stanford
University s Nursery School aged between 3 and 6 years old. The models were two adults, male
and female. Aggressive behavior was shown to 24 children, non aggressive behavior was shown
to 24 children and 24 children served as the control group. For the first step of the experiment, a
child and a model were brought into a room containing toys. The child was escorted to a corner
that had potato prints and stickers while the model was escorted to a corner that had a tinker toy
set, a mallet and a 5 foot inflated Bobo doll. For subjects that were in the aggressive condition, the
model began aggressing toward the doll after a minute. The model performed distinct aggressive
acts that Bandura was looking for the child to imitate. The model laid the doll on its side, sat on it
and punched it repeatedly in the nose and then raised the doll, picked up the mallet and struck it on
the head. Following the mallet aggression, the model tossed the doll up in the air and kicked it
around the room. These aggressive acts were repeated three times, interspersed

Walter Benjamin and the past disassociating with present
In Walter Benjamin s Berlin Childhood Around 1900, he applies a variety of concepts with respect
to time: past, present, and future. The concepts are highlighted in his vignettes: Victory Column ,
The Telephone , and Butterfly Hunt . Benjamin attempts to imbue his writing with a different
structure of timefrom what was conventional. He perceives history as a section of moments, and
each moment is an integral whole in its own right, making it equal to the present(Knights).
Benjamin also notes that the ignoring of the past and the focus on the progression of the future
causes harmful effects to nature (Knights). The concept of technological progress appears to give
grounds for the domination and abuse of nature (Patke). Subsequently,... Show more content on

Even though Benjamin attributes a sense of delight to his image of the Victory Column , there is
also a contrasting affect of death that permeates through the vignette. There is a portico around the
Victory Column, but it is when Benjamin asserts that this portico was itself the inferno a sense of
death becomes apparent. It is evident that Benjamin wants to spotlight the darkness around the
column. It seems that Benjamin is using this past image to illustrate a sense of responsibility for
the innocently suffered of past generations. Benjamin is placing a redemptive quality to the death
of the past individuals. There is a sense of redemption embedded in his past. Benjamin wants it
visible that the Victory is surrounded by death, which is analogous of his present situation.
Sigmund Freud agrees with Benjamin s reluctance on war as he states war Broke out, and it
brought disillusion (Freud 172) and that A future war, because of such great advances in the means
of destruction, would mean the extermination of one or perhaps both adversaries. (Freud 231). If
Germany in Benjamin s present is to obtain a Victory in its oppressive endeavor, it is through mass
death, which is proven through the past. Thus, the Victory Column depicts Benjamin s past delights
before his innocence was corrupted by the future, and an example of how studying the past and its
follies can save immense death.
Progression through technological advancement is a process

Explore some of the similarities and differences between the language young people use in their

You will find that punctuation is rarely used in most texts and if there is any then it will occur
randomly or be over used throughout the conversation because at the end of the day there are no
rules to online communication. Consequently, there are lots of concerns about online
communication use and its potential dangers. John Humphrys says, It s pillaging our punctuation;
savaging our sentences; raping our vocabulary. I agree with him as text speak is slowly taking
over our Standard English, more than ever now as nearly everyone has a mobile device. One of
the major disadvantages about text speak is that since it is not standard, there are no single spelling
for some words and as different people have different texting styles, one might misunderstand the
message and feel offended due to this misinterpretation. In addition to this, when people write text
messages in text speak, they often lose depth and meaning, sadly people often forget how to write
in Standard English using correct, standard spelling and grammar. Also, more and more people are
using their mobile phones all the time; this could possibly lead to anxiety as they are constantly
checking their phones for any new texts/notifications etc. Texting and typing too much can lead to
repetitive stress injury which isn t something that young people should have. Likewise, some

Punk Rock Essay
Punk rock is a unique and changing musical genre that was born in both England and the United
States in the late 1970s. A largely underground music scene with a reliance on a rejection of
societies norms, dismissal of capitalism and consumption, heavy reliance on community, and a
strong attitude of do it yourself and self empowerment, punk continues to have a large influence on
the contemporary music scene. Punk rock, however, has faced issues when dealing with concepts
of sex and gender. Bands within the scene are usually composed of males, women are objectified
in song lyrics, and masculine values like aggressiveness and violence are often glamorized,
especially in sub genres of punk such as hardcore punk. But women have managed,... Show more

After the demise of many hardcore bands in the mid Eighties, bands such as Bad Religion kept
the scene going, and were influences towards punk bands that would later go on to much
mainstream success such as Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink 182. One specific moment in
punk rock history that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the
development of the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 1990 s. This movement came mostly out
of the punk rock scene in Olympia, WA and Washington D.C. Women found themselves pushed
out of punk due to the increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts . Bands
like Bikini Kill, and fan publishes magazines ( zines ) such as Jigsaw began to address the issue
of women in punk rock. The first Riot Grrl Convention was held in Washington, D.C. in 1992.
There were seminars dealing with writing zines and buying guitars, as well as dealing with eating
disorder and fighting sexism. Punk rock, and specifically the Riot Grrrl movement, has been used
to empower women and give them control over their lives. Punk s celebration of the individual,
and its embrace of those who challenge the norms and standards of society, made it the perfect
culture for women who refused to accept society s notions of femininity and gender roles. This is a
tradition that has a long history within feminist theory. Groups such as the Radicalesbians and the

Analysis Of The Book The Four Loves Essay
Many cruel things in the world are done in the name of love. But in what face of love are these
acts fulfilled through? Is it through friendship? Or mere affection? Perhaps lust? Or, though
unlikely, unconditional love? The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces.
Every relationship in this book is unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a love
factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love
being felt. One can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely
separate interpretations of the word love. That being said, Lewis saw the same inconsistencies and
decided to dissect the meaning of love in his book The Four Loves. He connected many of findings
to the characters throughout Till We Have Faces who portray elements of the four different loves:
Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of these loves plays a crucial part in the plot of the story.
Storge, Greek for affection, is a love in which physical features don t play a part in its existence. An
example would be a love for a family member or close friend. (Four Loves 31 32) In Till We Have
Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel is loved by Psyche, her younger sister; the Fox, a
Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she is ugly. (Faces 11) Fox, Orual, and
Psyche have a very special bond and the Fox is like a true grandfather (Faces 21) to

Value of Philosophy Essay
Philosophy is the study of examining and thinking about questionable ethical problems and/or
generally accepted certainties. Philosophy aims at knowledge that combines a variety of academic
fields as well as convictions, prejudices and beliefs.
What is Russell s essay about? Present Russell s position in your own words.
Bertrand Russell s essay addresses many issues concerning philosophy. In the writing, he states
philosophy s nature, value, and criticisms. The essay explains these aspects of the study of
philosophy in relatively different ways. The main idea for establishing value in his essay is by
explaining how it is best obtained, and its effect on other people. The essay continues with his
criticisms of those who opposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It states that even though philosophy doesn t give us a certainty of true answers, it suggests many
possibilities which enlarge our thoughts and free them from tyranny of custom. He also supports
the idea that philosophy is beneficial because it enriches intellectual imagination . The essay
brings up the points of the practical man, and why they are at a loss of intellectual imagination
because they don t explore the unknown by viewing life as simple. As evidence, he uses an
example of mass disease and poverty of a society. The theory is that in those conditions, there
would still be much to be improved to produce a valuable society. Even if the society has the
proper food supplies, they need the goods of the mind (knowledge) to build a well governed
society. He believes practical men undermine that aspect, thereby explaining their lack of
intellectual imagination. The next argument is that philosophy saves us from convictions,
prejudices, and cultural beliefs. The affect that that has on a person is to open up a fresh
prospective with very little bias. He believed for this to be beneficial to people socially, by
developing empathy which helps you understand others points of view. That theory goes hand in
hand and gives a fine segway to his fourth and final argument of the freedom and equity learned
from philosophical contemplation reflecting in your personality (action and emotion). The

George Orwell s Use of Language Techniques to Represent Power in Animal Farm Power
corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely ; and this is eloquently proved in George
Orwell s novel Animal Farm. In this satirical fable, Orwell uses his allegorical farm to candidly
illustrate the corruptive nature of power and to symbolise the communist system in the
microcosm of a farmyard barn. George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Blair, a British political
novelist and essayist. He was also a socialist but he criticized the right (fascists and capitalists) as
freely as he criticized the left (anarchists, socialists, and communists). Orwell used his writings

At first, Animal Farm prospers. The pig leaders, Snowball and Napoleon assume the
administration of the farm and as Snowball tries to teach the animals to read, Napoleon takes a
group of young puppies to educate them in the principles of Animalism. Mr. Jones reappears to
take back the farm but the animals defeat him again. As time passes however, Snowball and
Napoleon increasingly quarrel over the future of the farm and they begin to struggle with each
other for power and influence among the other animals. These disagreements lead up to a vote in
order to build Snowball s proposal for a windmill, which Napoleon was opposed to. Then
suddenly, nine enormous dogs the puppies that Napoleon had taken away to educate burst into the
barn and chased Snowball away. Napoleon then declares himself leader. The initial intentions of
the ideals of equality and justice were unsuccessful and the Animal Farm ended up being a
dictatorship of pigs, who were the cleverest, and most idle of the animals. As years pass, the pigs
become more and more like human beings walking upright, carrying whips, and wearing clothes.

The Influence Of Architecture In Ancient Greece
One geographical factor that impacted Rome was agriculture. The soil on the Italian Peninsula was
rich because of the volcanic ash. The soil and the mild climate helped the Romans grow surplus
olives and grain. (Robinson, N, n.d.) For example, having a reliable food production allowed the
population to grow, and trading in olives helped the Romans economy to expand even more.
Without agriculture, Rome might have slipped into insignificance without leaving its footprint in

Tooth Decay Is An Imbalance Of Mineral Loss And Replacement
Tooth Decay
Tooth decay is an imbalance of mineral loss and replacement within a tooth over time in
response to acid attacks on a daily basis. These acid attacks are a direct result of food and drink
consumption resulting in cavities and decay. The cavity and tooth decay process can be prevented
by working closely with a professional dentist and following a thorough at home dental health
routine. Eating the correct foods at the right times and avoiding certain snacks can all help to
prevent tooth decay. So let s take a look at tooth decay and the actual process itself.

This series of attacks and rebuilds is much like a tug of war in your mouth. It s also a way of the
body protecting itself from everyday problems. In order to help prevent tooth decay we must first
understand it fully and a great way to begin is to look at each of the three main factors in closer
detail.
The three main factors in tooth decay
Food and Drink when food and drink is consumed over an extended period of time between
meals, the balance between remineralisation and demineralisation can tip in favour of tooth
decay. Sticky foods such as caramel and raisins are particularly adept at causing acid attacks that
become too much for saliva to prevent and repair. Eating these foods during a meal however
allows for the tug of war scenario to become a winning situation for a person and their teeth. A
scenario in which tooth decay can occur rather rapidly happens to be when children are allowed
to fall asleep with a bottle. This can be the same if a bottle is given to them for them to carry
around too. Whether it contains milk, juice or another drink, bacteria can use them all to produce
acids and this is known as baby bottle tooth decay . In order to help prevent tooth decay, you must
limit the intake of sugary and sticky foods along with sweetened beverages between your meals.
Bacteria in Plaque plaque on your teeth should be removed by your toothbrush and floss everyday.

Blog #23_ Leverage_ What is The Best Leverage for Your Forex Trading Strategy
Introduction
Understanding how to trade forex isn t always the easiest of tasks, as in order to successfully turn
a profit a trader must have a detailed knowledge of the market, the right trading strategy, and a
selection of functional trading tools. One tool that is commonly praised is leverage, as through
correct use it can boost a trader s output without the need for any additional capital upfront. The
following article takes an in depth look at leverage, helping you get a grasp on what leverage is
appropriate for your forex trading strategy and all round market approach.
What is leverage?

The margin in this instance would be $1,000, with margin based leverage equalling 100:1
(100,000/1,000). Many don t equate margin based leverage to being legitimate leverage, as it
doesn t affect a trader s risk exposure, as a trader s margin requirement might not influence his or
her profits or losses. Reason being that a trader can choose to allocate more than the required
margin for any active position.
Real Leverage
In order to understand the real degree of leverage within any position you are undertaking, you
must divide the total value of your positions by your trading capital. For example, should you
have $10,000 in your account and you choose to open a $100,000 position, by default you are
trading with 10x leverage. Now, should you trade two standard lots ($200,000) instead of a
single standard lot ($100,000), you will then be trading at 20x leverage. You can probably start to
figure out how this works from a real leverage perspective using these examples, with the leverage
offered being related to the level of margin and the discretion of the broker.
Understanding associated levels of risk
As you can plainly see, by making use of leverage you can magnify not only your profits, but
should things take a turn for the worse, your losses as well. Think about it this way, the greater the
level of leverage you use, the greater the level of risk you take on. What this means is that leverage

India and Pakistan Negotiations
There have been numerous negotiations taken place between India and Pakistan since 1947. They
have ranged from inconsequential issues such as Border Railway Crossing and Time Tables to
highly disputatious ones like National Security interests including Nuclear Confidence building
measures and to the highly infamous Kashmirissue.
Before discussing the negotiations which occurred over the Kashmir issue, we need to know the
origin of the Kashmir problem!
A Walk into the History
After the departure of the British Empire from the Indian Subcontinent, it led to the formation of
two different countries India and Pakistan along religious lines (Hinduism and Islam). (Kux, 87)
These two new dominions had around 650 states run by princes. Theoretically these states had the
option of choosing either of the countries or remain independent. By remaining independent they
would have let monarchy leap over democracy. These independent states were advised by the
British Government to get associated with either of the two dominions keeping in view the
geographical and other relevant considerations, for the sole purpose of securing their defence,
foreign relations and other specified matters.
One of these newly independent states was Kashmir, which according to its geographical
positioning had the option of choosing either of the two dominions but there lied a problem which
was, the ruler of Kashmir was a Hindu believer but the majority of the population in Kashmir was

R Day Deception By Mary Kathryn Barbier And Operation...
D Day Deception by Mary Kathryn Barbier and Operation Double Cross by Ben Macintyre are
both books about Operation Fortitude, the colossal allied deception operation aimed at preventing
Germany from finding out where the D Day landings would take place. This paper will
summarize both books and then discuss the differences between them and why they exist. D Day
Deception was written by Mary Kathryn Barbier in 2007 and focuses on Operation Fortitude and
the Normandy Invasion. Barbier draws almost exclusively from primary sources, such as the
military reports leading up to, and right after, D Day and then analyses the effectiveness of the
individual aspects of Operation Fortitude and the operation as a whole and determines it s... Show

Based on earlier attempts at deception the LCS had a general idea of where their false landing
sites should be (Barbier 8). This was by all means a united Anglo American effort, unlike
Operation Mincemeat which was a solely British endeavor, many American units, like the
American 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, who for example, played a role in Operation
Fortitude (Barbier 9). In November of 1943 the main objectives of the deception operation were
planned. A deception operation for the invasion of France should have three objectives. First, to
convince the Germans the attack was coming in the Pas de Calais region or east of there.
Second, to keep the Germans doubting the real date and time of the attack and third, during and
after the invasion contain as many German troops as possible in or east of the Pas de Calais for
fourteen days (Barbier 13). Recognizing that the deception had to be as realistic as possible it was
decided that dummy aircraft, antiaircraft, tanks, artillery, and landing boats would be assembled in
South East England while wireless communication to simulate a command center were also
fabricated by several people with radios in South East England (Barbier 14 15). Operation Fortitude
was divided into two parts, Fortitude North and South. Fortitude North was dedicated to faking an
invasion of Norway, which managed to tie down 250,000 German troops, while Fortitude

Postnatal Care
Barriers to providing care from a midwife s point of view and staff qualities
Midwives felt there were many barriers to care provision. The key findings were limited
flexibility, length of hospital stay, structured care, inadequate midwife to woman ratios and the
busyness of postnatal wards (Rayner 2009 b; McLachlan, 2006, Fenwick, 2009, brown 2005).
They said that too much paperwork associated with admissions and discharges were a major
barrier as well (Schmied, 2007) and that they felt staff levels needed to increase considering the
intensive postnatal care required over 2 3 days, especially in areas such as breastfeeding (ranyer
2009 b). Many of these factors are outside of the midwives control but subsequently affect the time
spent with the woman (Rayner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Midwives felt there was a contradiction between what was expected of them. They are meant to be
flexible in the care they provide but also follow guidelines and protocols of the hospital (Schmied,
2007). Generally midwives are perceived as being friendly, approachable and encouraging
postnatally but they are simultaneously identify them to be busy, rushed and difficult to contact (
Fenwick, 2009, p20; Brown, 2005; McLacklan, 2006).
Emotional and physical wellbeing (Mclellan, Fenwick. McKellar, 2005)
Pregnancy is a time where women leave behind their comfortable, controlled lives where they
were experts and antenatally the woman is the focus of care. During the early postnatal period,
the woman enters a new time where she is faced with the unknown world of motherhood and her
identity changes with the new role. It is an acute change overnight and can be a time of great
stress where often parents do not feel prepared (Mckellar, 2005). There is a shift of focus that is
now a baby and requires attention and is wholly dependent on the mother. Often this can be scary
and overwhelming with women feeling extremely tired but also excited. However eventually with
support and practice,

Ethics And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas
Ethics and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas
The works of Emmanuel Levinas are considered to be hugely influential within the philosophical
disciplines of twentieth century ethics and existentialism, but unfortunately the convolution and
misrepresentation of his thinking often results in miscomprehension of his ideas. Totality and
Infinity: A Book on Exteriority is one of Levinas earlier works (published in 1961 in French and
1969 in English) that has garnered much attention and praise from writers across a multitude of
disciplines (not just philosophy) for the fact that it deals with the widely applicable subject of
relations toward and perception of the Other from the perspective of the self. Throughout the book,
the author demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and
how the infinite is an outcome of the correlation of self and Other. The main purpose of Levinas
work is to find out the dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his
work, infinite is the beginning or foundation of ethics and, he also declines any ethical
intellectualism. Levinas acknowledges the idea that not every human being is inherently ethical per
se but he or she is an aspiration of Others. Therefore, the remaining part of this paper will focus on
sexuality, which is one of the themes that the writer encountered Sexual encounter Sex is a
powerful act that has the ability to transform an individual s self experience, change

Gabriel Conroy Character Analysis
Gabriel Conroy is a book reviewer, a teacher at a university and a writer; he is very well
educated. It is his high level of education which prevents him from opening in the crowd soon.
He also very easily feels out of place because of his high class literary endeavors. He tends to
give a lot of thought into whatever he is doing which also focusses another aspect of his
personality i.e. self doubt. We can clearly see he is self deceived as he shuffles to go into the
circle of his own egotism while rationalizing with his self scrutiny. Stephen also explicitly makes
clear his artistic bias being influenced by his self scrutiny. He, through the process of self
examination tends to make them have a control over themselves while avoiding their ego. This...

when he was around 3). As the title suggests, we see the portrait of Stephen coming into view as
we read on while The Dead only describes a night in Gabriel s life. Stephen s second name has a
lot to do with the kind of artist he wishes to become or already is. He moves above and over the
labyrinth that traps him, i.e. the labyrinth of social boundaries and politics. He is also very
knowledgeable in aesthetics and can see things creatively i.e. like a true artist since a very early
age. This paints a bold picture of him being the artist and it gets detailed as he grows up showing
intelligible aesthetic tastes. Gabriel Conroy on the other hand is not so boldly described as an
artist although he does struggle from the fear of being one. For instance, He was undecided about
the lines from Robert Browning for he feared they would be above the heads of his hearers ...That
their grade of culture differed from his (179). Therefore, he was quite afraid of getting meddled up
while he was delivering his

  • 2. The Planet Jay Comes From The Earth The planet Jay comes from is known as Mir to its inhabitants. In this universe, there are several sapient species, who originate both in outer space and on Mir. The human equivalent, mortal species are lovek, who live down on Mir and, at the time of Jay s entry into Ryslig, are just starting to venture into outer space. However, besides lovek there are several species that should be discussed in some detail for a proper understanding of the setting. Most immortal species in the setting fall under the umbrella of Spirits, based on the fact they are composed of Spirit (substances relating to magic and the soul) rather than Flesh (you know, meat). The universe is dualist and most living things within it fall under one of the two broad categories of Spirit and Flesh. First, there are the stareczi, who live in deep space and generally stay away from Mir. They re something akin to sapient fungus (or possibly slimes). They have two instars (life stages), which dictate their place in society. The first instar is a haploid, unfused individual that grows from a spore. Unfused stareczi live in loose groups of about five to ten individuals, though pods as large as twenty five are not uncommon. The second instar is trickier. The second instar of stareczi is something between a proper life stage and pair bonding. At maturity, two haploid stareczi fuse into a single, diploid individual who is capable of sporing. Fused stareczi are solitary and live away from others of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Realm Of Classical Music The realm of classical music is a relatively veiled in the sphere of popular culture, but if you take the time to scour through the beautiful, sometimes hundreds of years old pieces, you will be surprised by the magnificence and allure that the classical music genre can offer. There are three categories of classical musicthat can be observed throughout the extensive universe of classical pieces, absolute music, program music, and characteristic music or character pieces. Absolute music is primarily instrumental and doesn t present a general theme or idea, and is merely music for music s sake (Morgan). The term absolute music was first used in 1846 in a program to Beethoven s Ninth Symphony that was written by Richard Wagner, although the idea had been created in the late 1700 s by German Romanticist authors (Apel). Absolute music does not tell a story or convey any message external to the music itself, but still produces beautiful ravishing tunes. Although it is not as common as program or characteristic music, it is still hiding in prominent classical pieces. An exceptional example of mainstream absolute music that I enjoy is Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo by Johann Pachelbel, more commonly known as simply Canon in D, or Pachelbel s Canon. Pachelbel was a German composer who was most commonly recognized for his organ pieces. He composed Canon in D in 1680 during the Baroque era of classical music, an era characterized by heavily exaggerated and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The moral quandary in Merck and the waterway visual deficiency was whether the organization should seek after the examination which may bring about benefit, or pick the more secure choice, that was going for the benefit as opposed to inquiring about the medication. The medication was considered to cure the destructive and impeding ailment called the stream visual deficiency that were situated in territories of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Leaders of the organization had issues about the exploration that was being led. The issue was that the patients couldn t bear the cost of it, essentially in light of the territory the medications were waiting to be controlled. This implied no benefit for the organization. Taking a gander at Merck s site, the organization uncovers its incentive as: Our center esteems are driven by a yearning to enhance life, accomplish logical magnificence, work with the most elevated norms of honesty, grow access to our items and utilize a differing workforce that esteems cooperation. Improving people groups general life is the principle objective of the organization not simply profiting. It could be a troublesome choice for Merck to choose on the off chance that it needed to contribute on the examination on account of the exceptionally focused market, and the dread of disappointment. One of those technologies is the change of songs unto a digital format and online streaming against the classical CD by CD sell and distributions technique. These changes created a huge change in the music market. Are those changes in digital distributions and online streaming truly benefiting the music industry and the Artists? Or is one swindling the other? This leads us to another issue that affects the music companies and record labels which is the copyright infractions occasioned by the new access to digital material. The illegal practice of copying music and sharing it has caused many problems to the music industry and artist not only for the money aspect on side of the record labels but also to the musicians who spend many hours composing to create a master piece and then these are download for free and re distributed illegally by web sites and apps such as LimeWire, Ares, BitTorrent, and many others. Cangrelor, a potent intravenous, reversible, platelet P2Y12 inhibitor, was recently approved by both the United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as an adjunct for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The approval was based on Cangrelor versus Standard Therapy to Achieve Optimal Management of Platelet Inhibition (CHAMPION) PHOENIX (1), a multi center, double dummy, double blind trial, which randomized 11,145 patients with stable angina, non ST segment elevation acute coronary syndromeor ST segment elevation myocardial infarction to receive cangrelor or clopidogrel at the time of PCI. CHAMPION PHOENIX (1) demonstrated that cangrelor significantly reduced the rate of ischemic events without increasing severe bleeding. In the original analysis, bleeding was site reported by the blinded investigators according to pre specified definitions and was not adjudicated. While the EMA accepted this approach, during FDA review, the sponsor and the FDA independently re evaluated bleeding in a post hoc, non blinded manner. This evaluation included potential bleeding data not necessarily captured on the bleeding case report form (CRF) by the investigator, and findings were categorized and interpreted according to jointly agreed criteria based on previously published bleeding classifications. Opponents of the Flag Desecration Amendment, propose reasons that make sense in not passing such an amendment and in doing so would lead to an ultimate betrayal of the freedoms granted to us by the First Amendment. In passing the Flag Desecration Amendment, it would mean that if a person wanted to express political freedom of speech by desecrating the flag they could not. A proposed Amendment would undermine the First Amendment. As Americans we are granted many freedoms and the freedom of speech is a major one, so if congress were to say that a person could not express themselves and to have it in writing then what else would change. Opponents also make a point that flag burning is rare. They say that is doesn t happen every year, but when it has that it was to express political speech as the Supreme Court held in 1989. Opponents also say that once freedoms such as this be taken away then what s to say what else congress will regulate and subject to violations. The 1H NMR titration experiment revealed that the benzyl group of TUs strengthened the intermolecular interactions toward an organophosphonate (Figure 3). It has been known that the chemical shift of thiourea N H changes according to the degree of hydrogen bond with an acceptor (i.e., DMMP), and its association constant (Ka) can be obtained by non linear regression analysis (Figure 3a).18 The 1H NMR spectra of TU 1, 2, 4, or 8 in chloroform d (~100 mM) indicate that the chemical shift of the N H protons shifted downfield with increasing amount of DMMP up to 80 equivalents, confirming the formation of the TU DMMP complex through hydrogen bonding (Figure 3b). In the 1H NMR titration experiment, proton peak shifting shows deferent shapes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support this hypothesis, the TU s chemical shift changes were measured by varying its concentration in chloroform d (the Supporting Information). Indeed, the presence of a N phenyl group induced self aggregation to a greater extent; the degree of peak shifts (self aggregation) appeared in the order of TU 8 1 4 2, corresponding to the hydrogen bond donor strength. Thus we may conclude that the incorporation of a phenyl group render a TU more acidic or strong in hydrogen bond and also promotes more self aggregation. Figure 3. Calculated structure between 4 and DMMP by hydrogen bonding and CH ПЂ interaction. Although the decreased interaction of TUs 1 and 8 with DMMP than TUs 2 and 4, respectively, can be explained by the phenyl s adverse effect, it is still not clear why N benzyl substituted TU 4 is better than unsubstituted TU 2 (or TU 8 better than TU 1). Since a N benzyl substituted TU has a similar donor strength as that of N alkyl substituted TU, we suspect that a secondary interaction may exist between TU 4 DMMP in order to have a larger association constant. To gain further insight into the binding mechanism between N benzyl substituted TU 4 and DMMP, density functional theory (DFT) calculation was performed using B3LYP functional with empirical dispersion of Grimme (B3LYP D3BJ) and d3 basis set employing the Gaussian0920 suite of programs. • 20. The Spanish Conquest Of The West Conquests Case Study The Spanish conquest of the West Indies was a strategic economic plan coordinated by the desires of three parties. Christopher Columbus knew the Spanish crown was in desperate need of a trade route to India. When Columbus reached the West Indies it became clear to him that obtaining gold from the natives, peacefully or forcefully, would be an easy source of wealth. The crown, pleased with Columbus findings, funded further expeditions which eventually opened the opportunity for merchants to make economic gains in the West Indies. The Spanish crown quickly lost interest in a trading route to India as voyages to America continued to supply not only wealth but labor and land for the Spanish to rule over. Merchants back in Spainalso helped fund the conquests by supplying equipment, tools, and slaves in return for gold. These multiple interests all allowed the Spanish to exploit the natives of the West Indies for their own financial gain with no remorse for life or morality. The subjects were 36 boys and 36 girls from the Stanford University s Nursery School aged between 3 and 6 years old. The models were two adults, male and female. Aggressive behavior was shown to 24 children, non aggressive behavior was shown to 24 children and 24 children served as the control group. For the first step of the experiment, a child and a model were brought into a room containing toys. The child was escorted to a corner that had potato prints and stickers while the model was escorted to a corner that had a tinker toy set, a mallet and a 5 foot inflated Bobo doll. For subjects that were in the aggressive condition, the model began aggressing toward the doll after a minute. The model performed distinct aggressive acts that Bandura was looking for the child to imitate. The model laid the doll on its side, sat on it and punched it repeatedly in the nose and then raised the doll, picked up the mallet and struck it on the head. It is evident that Benjamin wants to spotlight the darkness around the column. It seems that Benjamin is using this past image to illustrate a sense of responsibility for the innocently suffered of past generations. Benjamin is placing a redemptive quality to the death of the past individuals. There is a sense of redemption embedded in his past. Benjamin wants it visible that the Victory is surrounded by death, which is analogous of his present situation. Sigmund Freud agrees with Benjamin s reluctance on war as he states war Broke out, and it brought disillusion (Freud 172) and that A future war, because of such great advances in the means of destruction, would mean the extermination of one or perhaps both adversaries. (Freud 231). If Germany in Benjamin s present is to obtain a Victory in its oppressive endeavor, it is through mass death, which is proven through the past. Thus, the Victory Column depicts Benjamin s past delights before his innocence was corrupted by the future, and an example of how studying the past and its follies can save immense death. Consequently, there are lots of concerns about online communication use and its potential dangers. John Humphrys says, It s pillaging our punctuation; savaging our sentences; raping our vocabulary. I agree with him as text speak is slowly taking over our Standard English, more than ever now as nearly everyone has a mobile device. One of the major disadvantages about text speak is that since it is not standard, there are no single spelling for some words and as different people have different texting styles, one might misunderstand the message and feel offended due to this misinterpretation. In addition to this, when people write text messages in text speak, they often lose depth and meaning, sadly people often forget how to write in Standard English using correct, standard spelling and grammar. Also, more and more people are using their mobile phones all the time; this could possibly lead to anxiety as they are constantly checking their phones for any new texts/notifications etc. Texting and typing too much can lead to repetitive stress injury which isn t something that young people should have. A largely underground music scene with a reliance on a rejection of societies norms, dismissal of capitalism and consumption, heavy reliance on community, and a strong attitude of do it yourself and self empowerment, punk continues to have a large influence on the contemporary music scene. Punk rock, however, has faced issues when dealing with concepts of sex and gender. Bands within the scene are usually composed of males, women are objectified in song lyrics, and masculine values like aggressiveness and violence are often glamorized, especially in sub genres of punk such as hardcore punk. After the demise of many hardcore bands in the mid Eighties, bands such as Bad Religion kept the scene going, and were influences towards punk bands that would later go on to much mainstream success such as Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink 182. One specific moment in punk rock history that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the development of the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 1990 s. This movement came mostly out of the punk rock scene in Olympia, WA and Washington D.C. Women found themselves pushed out of punk due to the increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts . Bands like Bikini Kill, and fan publishes magazines ( zines ) such as Jigsaw began to address the issue of women in punk rock. The first Riot Grrl Convention was held in Washington, D.C. in 1992. There were seminars dealing with writing zines and buying guitars, as well as dealing with eating disorder and fighting sexism. Punk rock, and specifically the Riot Grrrl movement, has been used to empower women and give them control over their lives. Punk s celebration of the individual, and its embrace of those who challenge the norms and standards of society, made it the perfect culture for women who refused to accept society s notions of femininity and gender roles. • 26. Analysis Of The Book The Four Loves Essay Many cruel things in the world are done in the name of love. But in what face of love are these acts fulfilled through? Is it through friendship? Or mere affection? Perhaps lust? Or, though unlikely, unconditional love? The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces. Every relationship in this book is unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love being felt. One can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely separate interpretations of the word love. That being said, Lewis saw the same inconsistencies and decided to dissect the meaning of love in his book The Four Loves. He connected many of findings to the characters throughout Till We Have Faces who portray elements of the four different loves: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of these loves plays a crucial part in the plot of the story. Storge, Greek for affection, is a love in which physical features don t play a part in its existence. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend. (Four Loves 31 32) In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel is loved by Psyche, her younger sister; the Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she is ugly. He also supports the idea that philosophy is beneficial because it enriches intellectual imagination . The essay brings up the points of the practical man, and why they are at a loss of intellectual imagination because they don t explore the unknown by viewing life as simple. As evidence, he uses an example of mass disease and poverty of a society. The theory is that in those conditions, there would still be much to be improved to produce a valuable society. Even if the society has the proper food supplies, they need the goods of the mind (knowledge) to build a well governed society. He believes practical men undermine that aspect, thereby explaining their lack of intellectual imagination. The next argument is that philosophy saves us from convictions, prejudices, and cultural beliefs. The affect that that has on a person is to open up a fresh prospective with very little bias. He believed for this to be beneficial to people socially, by developing empathy which helps you understand others points of view. That theory goes hand in hand and gives a fine segway to his fourth and final argument of the freedom and equity learned from philosophical contemplation reflecting in your personality (action and emotion). George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Blair, a British political novelist and essayist. Reason being that a trader can choose to allocate more than the required margin for any active position. Real Leverage In order to understand the real degree of leverage within any position you are undertaking, you must divide the total value of your positions by your trading capital. For example, should you have $10,000 in your account and you choose to open a $100,000 position, by default you are trading with 10x leverage. • 43. Ethics And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas Ethics and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas The works of Emmanuel Levinas are considered to be hugely influential within the philosophical disciplines of twentieth century ethics and existentialism, but unfortunately the convolution and misrepresentation of his thinking often results in miscomprehension of his ideas. Totality and Infinity: A Book on Exteriority is one of Levinas earlier works (published in 1961 in French and 1969 in English) that has garnered much attention and praise from writers across a multitude of disciplines (not just philosophy) for the fact that it deals with the widely applicable subject of relations toward and perception of the Other from the perspective of the self. Throughout the book, the author demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how the infinite is an outcome of the correlation of self and Other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. Stephen also explicitly makes clear his artistic bias being influenced by his self scrutiny. He, through the process of self examination tends to make them have a control over themselves while avoiding their ego. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... when he was around 3). As the title suggests, we see the portrait of Stephen coming into view as we read on while The Dead only describes a night in Gabriel s life. Stephen s second name has a lot to do with the kind of artist he wishes to become or already is. He moves above and over the labyrinth that traps him, i.e. the labyrinth of social boundaries and politics. He is also very knowledgeable in aesthetics and can see things creatively i.e. like a true artist since a very early age. This paints a bold picture of him being the artist and it gets detailed as he grows up showing intelligible aesthetic tastes. Gabriel Conroy on the other hand is not so boldly described as an artist although he does struggle from the fear of being one. For instance, He was undecided about the lines from Robert Browning for he feared they would be above the heads of his hearers ...That their grade of culture differed from his (179).
