Sustainable Wood Flooring
We all want to do our part to help save our planet. Nevertheless, most of us do not like to be told
what we should purchase or what we should not consider purchasing. We have been encouraged
to wean ourselves away from incandescent light bulbs, and switch to energy saving bulbs, which
we have now grown accustomed to, and in many cases have come to prefer, but what about
flooring? Fortunately, flooring is also an area where you can go green, and do so in style. It is
indeed possible to have great looking wood flooring in your home without contributing to
worldwide deforestation. Wood Flooring and Sustainable Wood Flooring Your choices are many.
Going green does not have to mean going without wood floors to keep trees from being harvested....

The cork oak tree itself is the responsible party in this case, as the flooring material comes from
bark that is shed from the tree. There is no need to cut a single tree down. The flooring material
lies scattered around its base. Cork is also extensively used as core material for engineered wood
flooring. Other Types of Sustainable Flooring Engineered wood is another good example of
sustainable flooring material, since it only a small percentage of it is solid wood. The rest is
scrap or recycled material. The same is true to an even greater extent with laminates. Although
supplies are somewhat limited, recycled wood such as antique wood is an option. Old barn
wood was once a very popular choice and still is, but old barns are unfortunately not sustainable,
and are becoming scarcer with each passing year. There many examples of non wood sustainable
flooring, including stone, ceramic, vinyl, rubber, and of course, carpeting. Many if not most
homeowners like to have at least some wood flooring in their homes however. Fortunately, the
choices of sustainable wood flooring are many and varied. Have no fear of going green. There are
more attractive options available to you than you might

Why We Should Stay Trim And Fit
Do you want to stay trim and fit, but also really enjoy dining out? Or, does your work or travel
schedule leave you eating in restaurants multiple times per week? If so, you re not alone. Nearly
60% of North Americans report eating out at least once per week. I believe that the whole point
of being healthy is to enjoy your life more, thus it makes no sense to stop doing the things you
enjoy in order to be healthy. The good news is that, with a bit of planning and a bit of know how,
you can stick to a healthy eatingroutine and still enjoy meals out.
Your plan of attack will depend on a few different factors:
1. Why are you out to eat? Are you there because you re on a work trip and you just need to eat, or
are you out to enjoy time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With that being said, having a few strategies can help, and I m here to help!
Before you go out:
1. Eat a small snack prior to going out, or at least ensure that you are not ravenous. If you are too
hungry, especially to the point of feeling irritable, your desire to eat anything and everything can
easily override your desire to choose a healthy option.
2. Decide ahead of time. If you are able to, research the menu online to see what the restaurant
offers. It s easier to stick to a plan that you made ahead of time rather than to try to decide on the
fly. If your plan is to indulge in whatever you want; then go for it; but decide ahead of time.
3.Change your mindset. Remind yourself that you re there to enjoy time with your friends or
spouse, and that you happen to be eating food. Enjoy your food, but remember that it s just food.
At the restaurant:
1. Start with water. Cold water, hot water, lemon water, soda water there s so many choices! If you
choose to order a drink, enjoy something on the lighter fare such as a glass of wine, or alcohol
mixed with soda water. Fancy drinks such as margaritas and long island ice teas can pack upwards
of 600 calories per glass.
2. Skip the appetizers. Appetizer is not synonymous with lower calorie. In fact, many appetizers

If a person constantly eats too little proteins they can become susceptible to disease, it can cause
a person to develop anemia, dry skin can develop and in women their bones can become brittle.
If a person does not have enough carbohydrates in their diet they can develop malnutrition which
is also called lack of calories. If a person does not have enough lipids in their diet it can also
cause serious health risks. Fat provides nutrients for the body and supports the body s basic
function. Lack of this macronutrient can cause problems with a person s immune system, skin
and vision. My fiber intake does not meet the requirements of the recommendation for me as
calculated in the iProfile website 100% because my intake was way too low. My recommended
intake for fiber was 64g 112g and my intake was only 44g. My three day intake of food did not
meet the minimum number of servings of foods from each fiber containing groups. Both fruits
and vegetables fell short of the recommended intake that was required of me. The foods that
provided the most fiber in my days meals were salad, pizza, and corn flakes. The foods that
provided the least amount of fiber were eggs. Trends in my food choice that may affect my fiber
intake would be the places I choose to eat or simply eating out. Changes that I would make among
my vegetables, fruits, meat and meat alternatives and grain choices to increase my fiber intake
would be to eat whole fruits instead of drinking fruit juice,

Foster care is responsible for providing to the needs of children who don t have homes. And
who is responsible for funding these expenses? CNN wrote an article on the average cost of
raising a child for 18 years, High income families who live in the urban Northeast, for example,
are projected to spend nearly $455,000 to raise their child to the age of 18, while low income
rural families will spend much less, an estimated $145,500, according to the report (Hicken).
Lets go with the lowest number, $145,000, and divide that by 18 years; roughly $8,000 is spent
to care for a child per year in a low income household. Now lets take a look at how many children
are in the foster care system in the United States. On average, 402,000 children are in the foster
care, and in 2013, over 23,000 aged out of the system ( Children s Rights 1). If we were to do the
math, over 3 billion dollars would be spent on fostering children, per year! By simply allowing
same sex couples to adopt, we could save the government money that could be put to use of other
important things, such as improving city parks or assisting other families who struggle financially.
Or better yet, we could be spending money towards getting help for the kids who have been in
foster care and have developed mental health

The Chinese New Year Essay
Chinese New Year is the most widely celebrated tradition in Asia. The tradition is usually
celebrated on the first day of the first month on the Chinese Lunar calendar. This tradition is
rooted in centuries old customs and is one of the most popular public holidays in China. Apart
from China, this tradition is also celebrated in many Asian countries like Korea, Taiwan,
Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan. There are many values and rituals tied with this
tradition. For example, people would wear red clothing, decorate the house with red paper, and
give children lucky money in red envelopes. According to legend, it is said that red can drive
away bad luck, which is why the color red is highly emphasized. In myths, our ancestors would...

According a popular myth, the origin of this day lies in the fight against Nian, a beast in
Chinese mythology. The beast would visit cities and eat cattle, crops, and even people. In order
for families to protect themselves from the beast, they would place food at their doorsteps so
that the beast would not harm them. One day during a family dinner, the family noticed how the
beast was startled by seeing the color red. Word of this spread to other friends and family. Soon,
from then on, on the first day of every New Year, people would hang red paper lanterns and other
red objects to scare off the beast. They would also light bamboo stalks in order to scare the beast
away. After some time, the beast stop coming to the city all together. However, by this time
relatives and family had already adopted the habit of getting together to protect each other from the
beast.
Looking back at ancient civilization, fireworks, elaborate performances, or decorations had not
been invented or developed. These rituals that are associated with the tradition today were added
throughout the years. It was because of time that people started incorporating ideas that were added

Compare And Contrast Basketball And Football
American society has many different types sports from all around the world. For example, the
main two contemporary sports are basketball and football. Both sports require people, a ball, and
open area to play in. However, these two sports are played differently. By comparing and
contrasting basketball and football, we can examine them in terms of how they re played, the
amount of people in each teams, and the location the sports are being played in. First, basketball is
played differently than football. Basketball is a gameof shooting the hoop with a rounded ball.
There are two hoops at the end of the court that you must shoot in to score. The ball must be
consistently be dribblingoff your hand to the ground while moving at a fast or steady pace. In the
other hand, Football requires a cone shaped ball that must reach the opponent s other end of the
field. There are two big Y shape at each field and at the end of the field will be a touchdown to
score. Running will be the key to winning a football game while dodging other opponents.
Furthermore, both sports are changeling and require hard work to play. In addition, There are
many types of these sports played from fun to pro sports. Pro basketball season starts off in fall
season all the way to the beginning of summer season. At the end of the regular season in which

Consequences Of Unisciplined Children In The Veldt By Ray...
Consequences of undisciplined children Many people have witnessed a toddler having a meltdown
in public only to have a parent sooth them by giving in to the child s demand. Although sometimes
this can be a beneficial parenting technique, if a parent over indulges a child too often, then that
child can become spoiled. However in The Veldt, Ray Bradburychallenges the idea of satisfying
children; he suggests through his tragic tale of the spoiled and undisciplined children Wendy and
Peter, that over indulged kids will be taught to not value their family. Through the use of spoiling
kids, harms of technology, and conflict, Ray Bradbury shows children need to be disciplined in
order to be well rounded individuals. Bradbury uses spoiling Wendy and Peter to show they
weren t well rounded, by emphasizing that they were over indulged in materialistic wants. When
parents Lydia and George were talking, Lydia explained, They re insufferable let s admit it.
They come and go when they like; they treat us as if we were offspring. They re spoiled and we
re spoiled. The description of how the parents feel provides the reader with a better understanding
that even the parents can no longer control Wendy and Peter s disrespectful ways caused by their
mistakes of spoiling the children. Bradbury establishes the kids as so over indulged that even
Lydia and George could not discipline the children if they put their minds to it. Towards the end of
the story we see that not being able to

The Artifacts Of The Past
To understand the past, we have to understand the artefacts of the past. Artefacts show us another
kind of history, and another way of approaching the past. Not only do they frame the way we
interact with the world, they also influence the way we think about it as a whole. So when one
questions the ownership of these artefacts, they also question the historybehind it. Because the
history of art is, for the most part, a history of theft; questions over its ownership are bound to
ensue. So, how do we decide who owns art, and subsequently, history? Prevailing postcolonial
ideologies, might characterise museums as imperial despoilers in which their possession of
artefacts showcase the dispossession of cultural identity from the colonised,... Show more content

Polybius was one of the first historians to criticise the Romans and their actions, and since only
fragments of his ninth book have been preserved, the full extent of Polybius criticism is
unattainable. However his strong disapproval of the seizure of the Syracusan art is clearly
evident. Polybius stated, a city is not adorned by external splendours, but by the virtue of its
inhabitants (Polybius, c.200 c.118 BC). He presented two rhetorical arguments against the
removal of Syracusan art. Firstly, he claimed that art contributed nothing to the power and
expansion of the city. Additionally, he also questioned whether the victors could become great
while living simply. If they could, why should they imitate the weaker people they defeated?
(Miles, 2008). Polybius stated that victors should not strip the cities under the idea that the
misfortunes of another are an ornament to their own country (Polybius, c.200 c.118 BC).
However, historian Erich S. Gruen argues that Polybius criticism of Roman extraction of art
from Syracuse was a tactical error rather than a moral failure , as Polybius himself was bound by
the envy and fear of what the art would incite in regards to Greco Roman relations (Gruen, 1992).
Art looting became a standard practice after Napoleon took over the French army. Looting was
undertaken to raise funds to support the war effort, and to elevate morale in Paris. Under Napoleon,

Maximus The Tragic Hero In Gladiator By Russell Crowe
In the movie titled Gladiator there is a main character named Maximus Decimus Meridus
performed by Russell Crowe, in the beginning we see how the people look at Maximus when he

faces. This already tells me that Maximus is a very respected man and throughout the movie he is
portrayed as a noble man, with noble traits and a soldier who knows of no limits when it comes to
protecting either his men or his people. This has led me to believe that Maximus is the tragic hero
in Gladiator, the reason being is because according to Aristotle, a greek philosopher and scientist,

In this essay, I would like to relate Christine de Pizan s and Simone de Beauvoir s idea of
community with the use of education to the question of individuality. For Christine, educating
oneself on morality and ignorance is essential in shaping one s individuality. Then for Simone, she
uses education as a basis for debunking the unrealistic ideals and values placed on women; teaching
women to create an identity for themselves. By defining individuality as the unique journey to
awareness and difference, communitybecomes a central point of conversion to direct one s
education in context towards her newly converted identity. The motivation to learn establishes and

Once in Book 1.27.1, Lady Reason says there is nothing which so instructs a reasonable creature as
the exercise and experience of many different things . Thus, emphasizing why women should be
given the same educational opportunities as men. Christine argues that if women are intellectually
and morally inferior, despite being untrue, it would be because of their lack of exposure to things
beyond the domestic realm and the lack of opportunity to develop their minds and critical thinking
skills. Christine believes that it is every individual s right to be exposed to as many ideas and
influences as possible and that such a course strengthens and expands character, experience, and
rational insight. Using a martyr story in Book 3.5, Christine describes how Lucy was seen as a
respectable being only through her prayers and humility (good deeds), illustrating a true intellectual
as she used reason to show sincerity as a Christian. Even though she stayed true to her values, Lucy
still took time to articulate to the king and others about her identity so the dialogue would help
others understand her position. This account demonstrates how females can possibly have power
over males in institutional power through reason and their deeds. Society

Charles Horton Cooley Looking Glass Self
Explain Charles Horton Cooley s concept of the Looking Glass Self. Then apply the concept of
the looking glass self to describe hypothetically how a person who has an eating disorder could
have been influenced by others.
The Looking Glass Self is interpreted as a person s way they view or perceive themselves based
off of how they feel that others see them (Conley, 2017), This is generally done in three steps, the
first we would imagine how we appear to others, secondly, we envision which judgements were
made based on that appearance, and finally how the person feels about us founded on their
judgements.
In order to apply the Looking Glass Self theory to persons with eating disorders we must first

The media has changed the views of what is considered socially acceptable for appearances.
From the movie stars and sports personalities people idolize down to our local media
personalities, there is a certain accepted type that is portrayed. If a person with an eating disorder,
that being anorexia, bulimia, or any others, is seen in public they are concerned with their
appearance. Thinking do I look fat, or am I eating to much, and other questions about how they feel
about what others think about them race through their head. If an obese person looks at the model
type person, they both have common stereotypes they base how they think about that person in
their mind. Things like why do they eat so much, why don t they take better care of themselves,
you have to live at the gym to look like that, they must not eat anything or they always vomit it after
they do. All those and many other comments and questions buzzing around in their head, while
maybe never looking at the possible underlying causes. These feeling and thoughts will generally

Incorporation of Natural Capital into Mainstream Policies
Executive Summary
This paper objectively advocates a paradigm shift that incorporates natural capital into mainstream
policies, and businesses practices, at all levels. It sheds light on the role and importance of valuing
natural capital; reasons why it has not been properly integrated into everyday decision making
process; the risks associated with negligence; and the benefits of integration. A few examples were
enlisted to help outline the opportunities that lie within the ecosystem, if only we can implement
practices to utilize it sustainably. Individuals, corporations, and governments, must understand and
account for their use of natural capital and be aware of the accurate cost of human and economic
security.
1.0 Introduction
Virgil (October 15, 70 BC September 21, 19 BC), a classical Roman poet once quoted the greatest
wealth is health . In the quest for wealth, human beings degrade their health through actions such as
sleep deprivation and stress from prolonged work just to make so much wealth which we ultimately
spend on replenishing health. Depending on the level of damage done, we might not be able to
sustain good health and die. The above statement, even though blinkered, is an opening for our
broader focus of natural capital, which in spite of its utmost importance, is not appropriately
implemented in modern day decision making process. Natural capital refers to environmental health
and its primary function is life support. As human economic activities

An Argument Analysis Of Mozart s Requiem
In the last decade, the problem of Mozart s Requiem has divided itself into three categories which
most of the scholars have majored on in an attempt to come up with a clear analysis of the
arguments and various evidence. The three main problems include the authenticity problem viewed
in a narrower sense, the instrumentation problem and the dating problem. According to Friedrich
Blume, the question of authenticity comes in when the question of which parts were completed by
Mozart and the other parts that were completed by the another composer. It is hard to determine if
the other composer followed the concerns that Mozart would wish to be addressed. The issue of
instrumentation also becomes of concern in the sense that whether the Sussmayr s manuscript of
the whole Requiemuses the instrumentation that Mozart had indicated or whether it is out of the
creativity of the master. The dating problem was whether Mozart finished the work when he was
on his deathbed or whether he had composed the Requiem before he fell ill. Such problems of the
Requiem could only be answered by his close friends who died before the controversy arose.
Looking further into this investigation this document will analyze the problems of the Requiem
based on arguments from the five scholars: Thomas Bauman, Paul Moseley, Simon Keefe,
Christoph Wolff, and Richard Maunder.
Bauman provides a thoughtful analysis of the completion of Mozart s Requiem by Richard
Maunder. He bases his argument on the fact that

Sonic is about to enter a mature and highly competitive PDA market. Founded eighteen months
ago, the company was birthed by two entrepreneurs highly skilled and knowledgeable in
telecommunications. They are preparing to present their first product, Sonic 1000 PDA. The Sonic
1000 offers wireless networking, digital technology, dual phone use, 20 gigabytes of memory, four
megapixel camera, and voice recognition hands free operation (Kotler Keller, 2009, p. A5). A

Consequently, Sonic (a hypothetical start up business) is preparing to launch The Sonic 1000
PDA product with exclusive features at a value added price for consumer and business market in
order to compete with the existing PDA makers such as PalmOne, Handspring, Samsung,
Garmin, Dell, Sony, and so on (Philip Kotler and Kevin Lane Keller, 2006). On the other hand,
studies are enlightened that Sonic 1000 is the first creation of Sonic as well as it was founded by
two entrepreneurs who have experiences in the PC world (Philip Kotler and Kevin Lane Keller,
2006). Here as a consultant, would like to put forward the points and sections below for Sonic to
develop its first creation with excellent marketing strategy.
In this technological and scientific world, PDAs are becoming one of the most important needing
devices by the educated people. However, the needs vary according to the person s career, income,
and so on (The times, 2008). For example (Philip Kotler and Kevin Lane Keller, 2006):
professionals need a PDA to coordinate their busy tasks, note down information, stay in touch while
on the go, and also to exchange information from anywhere. Then again, students need a
multifunction PDA to perform their complicated tasks (see table 1.1.0 in below) without the assist
of multiple gadgets. Lastly, business markets (contains of corporate users, entrepreneurs, and
medical users) need a personal digital to record, conveniently store and exchange

Hypoglycemic Activity of Gynura Procumbens in...
Background of the Study Diabetes mellitus is a serious metabolic disorder wherein the person has
high blood glucose level either due to inadequate insulin production or the body s cells do not
respond properly to insulin (Nordqvist, 2010). There are three main types of diabetes namely Type
I (insulin dependent), Type II, and gestational diabetes. All these types are characterized by
hyperglycemiaor high blood glucose level. A person with diabetes may experience many symptoms
such as high blood sugar, high glucose content in urine, weight loss, fatigue, nausea, vomiting,
infections, blurred vision, and lethargy or coma (NDIC, 2013). Diabetes is continuing to be a

In the most recent study, the extract of G. procumbens was reported to produce significant
elevation in the fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels of normal rats, but a decrease in diabetic rats
(Hassan et al., 2010). Thus there is a need to further investigate the hypoglycemic activity of Gynura
procumbens.
Statement of the Problem What is the hypoglycemic activity of Gynura prcumbens leaf extract in
alloxan induced diabetic male mice?
Objective of the Study The present study will be conducted to determine the hypoglycemic effect of
Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr. in Alloxan induced diabetic male mice.
Significance of the Study
Gynura procumbens grows extensively in Southeast Asia, where it is traditionally used for
treatment of eruptive fevers, rash, kidney disease, migraines, constipation, hypertension, diabetes
mellitus, and cancer (Rosidah, 2009). The investigation of Gynura procumbens will allow the
researchers to assess its hypoglycemic activity. The results of this study can contribute to the
knowledge about herbal plants with antidiabetic properties. The information from this study may
aid in developing Gynura procumbens into a drug that will effectively lower the blood sugar levels
in diabetic patients.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the effectivity of Gynura procumbens plant extract as an alternative agent for
lowering the blood

The Security Issue Against Data Leak Essay
Abstract Android is one of the biggest operating system for smart devices in the market and its
application greatly impact life of billions of people. Thus it is safe to assume security will be
too. Security is a big issue for Android as its application is given rights to access several
information and some are sensitive information. Attackers accessing to those information could
prove fatal to the users. In some cases, the application are secured yet information are being leak
to the attackers. One of such methods are an attack though communication channels and side
channels [1]. Having information leak out in real time allows attackers to listen to conversation
or acquiring bank information. This paper will explore ways to prevent or solve security issue
against data leak. Two approach to this will be the introduction to apps: App Guardian [1] and
AppAudit [2]. App Guardian pauses suspicious applications and suspicious application is
identify using side channels. [1] AppAudit in the other hand run a simulation or sandbox version
of an application and does a checklist to each for security laws. [2] Those two are an example the
paper will be touching on. This paper will explore possible attacks and solution in the form of
methods to resolve it. 1. Introduction Android operating system is used in many device such smart

Theme Of Superstition In PetroniusThe Satirycon

Superstition Within Petronius The Satirycon
Written during the 1st century A.D., the Satyricon is often referred to as the first Roman novel.
The novel has only survived for us in fragments, and for this reason it is impossible for the modern
reader to reconstruct its plot completely. However, the Satyriconserves as an invaluable source of
information about the daily life and language of the Roman populace. Petronius deliberately
reproduces plebeian language and slang, offering a rare insight into everyday Roman life, which
polished and refined works leave absent. Petronius focuses on the large social gap between the
freed slaves and scholars of the time and how superstition can show that gap. The main scene that
superstition is shown is during Trimalchio s Feast.
The scene in the novel titled as Trimalchio s feast, describes an elaborate dinner party hosted by
Trimalchio, a businessman and immigrant who gained riches in Rome without any elegance or an
education fit for an aristocrat of the time. This section has been preserved more completely than
some of the more fragmented chapters of the novel, its themes and motifs are able to develop more
fully and be more closely understood as Petronius had originally intended. It could be interpreted
within different chapters and scenes of the feast as focusing on the large social gap between Rome
s freed slaves, and the well educated scholars whom they aimed to mimic. Although, this

program focuses on putting the customers first, by Do(ing) the unexpected . The operational plan
focused on customer service, being in stock on all products and creating a better store appearance
(inside the physical store and within the community).
In efforts to focus on customer service, more employees were hired and trained. Upper management
also equipped each team member with more technology (PDA s, walkie talkies, etc). There was a
companywide initiative to integrate Hispanic merchandise, marketing and staffing.
Home Depot switched to a regional distribution system while upgrading their internal information
technology infrastructure to better keep stores inventory stocked properly. This major overhaul
materialized into The Home Depot s stock outs dramatically decreasing.
To create a stronger public image, Home Depot created The Home Depot Foundation which helps
with community home building, disaster relief and veteran job placement assistance.
These initiatives have greatly improved customer satisfaction and recognition in the community by
increasing ratings from 55% to 75% (2008 to 2012).

The Amazon Is Oil Rich And The Extraction
An increased demand for oil has led oil associations to become desperate in finding new oil
manufacturers. Unfortunately, the Amazon is oil rich and the extraction has created a lot of
implications for the environment and culture existing in the Amazon. The Amazon is home to
many natural resources due to its vegetation that continuously recycles carbon dioxide into
oxygen. Some of the world s most promising oil and gas deposits lie deep in the tropical
rainforests, especially in the Western Amazon. Just until recently there has been more promise in
Middle Eastern countries. With oil at historically high prices, the incentive to develop oil
resources has never been greater. The main concerns of the oil extraction in the Amazon are
deforestation, indigenous conflict, biodiversity loss and pollution. In order to extract oil there
must be a course to enter deep into forest, and there needs to be sufficient space for the oil rigs to
be operated and therefore much of the rainforest is being deforested. Many local communities are
displaced and harmed by the operation of the oil rig and the pollution. Surrounding areas lose
natural resources that would have been obtained from the forest s natural abundance. This is caused
by deforestation, pollution and other environmental consequences. Oil extraction also threatens
many key stone species in the Amazon. Due to oil spills and other toxic waste, much of the soil and
river is polluted. Air pollution can potentially create spontaneous

Types of Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is among the most common procedures performed in older people and is one of
the oldest procedures known. It is done due to the lens becoming cloudy and leads to the vision
being affected. This happens when proteins in the lens clump together causing the cloudy area to
become larger, affecting vision more over time. The most common cause is age related, but it could
also be due to other reasons such as traumatic, diabetic, radiation, secondary and congenital.
The first type of cataract treatment done was known as couching. This technique could only be
performed on lenses that were completely opaque, rigid and heavy to the point where the zonules
were fragile. The eye would then be struck with a blunt object with enough force to cause the
zonules to break causing the lens to dislocate and lie in the vitreous cavity, restoring limited,
completely unfocussed vision. Centuries later, this technique was modified where a sharp
instrument was inserted into the eye to break the zonules.
In 1748, the first surgical cataract removal occurred in Paris. Topical anesthetic was instilled and an
incision was made that went halfway around the cornea and the entire opaque lens was removed. It
was important that the lens was ripened meaning completely hardened so that the lens would not
break into pieces when being removed. Thus this surgery was restricted to only the most advanced
cataracts. Fine sutures weren t available at that time so patients were immobilized with

Summary: Green belt land refers to the land that is reserved for an open space, often around large
cities. The purpose of a greenbelt area is to protect the land around large urban areas from

A Rose For Emily Grierson Point Of View
A Rose for Emily follows a first person account of part of Miss Emily Grierson s life leading up
to her death. The narrator talks as if they were speaking for the entire population of Jefferson, but
it is more likely that they are just stating their own opinion on Miss Emily under the guise of the
townsfolk. The point of view in this novel shows an incomplete, or inaccurate opinion on Miss
Emily Grierson because of the narrators own bias. In section 1 the narrator describes Miss
Emily as being viewed as a fallen monument (79) when she died, but when she was alive she was
a tradition, a duty and a care (79). This is the first example the reader gets of the narrators
conflicting bias towards Miss Emily. It is likely that when she was... Show more content on

Four men had snuck onto her property instead of consulting her about it to sprinkle lime around and
in her buildings. When the smell eventually disappears the narrator states that the town began to
feel sorry for her because of the madness that ran in her family. The narrator almost immediately
contradicts himself by stating that it was believed the Griersons held themselves a little too
high for what they really were (81), and that the death of Miss Emily s father was a good thing
because now she would be humanized (81) and would know the thrill and the old despair of a
penny more or less (81). When Miss Emily s father died, she kept his body within the house for
as long as possible and claimed that her father was not dead. Soon after the death, they were
about to resort to law, she broke down and let them bury her father. The narrator becomes
sympathetic after, stating that we were sympathetic towards Miss Emily s grieving process,
even saying We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that. We remembered
all the young men her father had driven away, and we knew that with nothing left, she would
have to cling to that which had robbed her, which people will (81). This shows another inaccurate
view of the towns opinion of Miss Emily at this point in time, because not everyone in Jefferson
would share the same opinion nor would everyone believe that she wasn t crazy. The narrator
groups everyone in Jefferson together, making the town as a whole a character by generalizing
what would have been their opinions or

Famine, Affluence, and Morality Essay
In the article by Singer, P. (1972) Famine, affluence, and morality main argument is that to persuade
his readers in what people of wealth and governments should help with famine relief, especially in
East Bengal as one example given. Singer is furthermore also mention somewhat of and
utilitarianism. Therefore, according to Mosser, K. (2010) A concise introduction to philosophy
states that the act utilitarianismapplies the idea of utilitarianism to specific acts, emphasizing what
moral is what produces the greatest good for the greats number...contrast with rule utilitarianism
(2010, Glossary). However, it is important to remember that Singer main agenda is to show ways

(p. 962)
To explain the three counter arguments on Singer s response were weak and only seen to relate to
the fact of the Bengalis and leaving other cultures behind or others such as Ethiopia where famine is
a daily existence of life there. Therefore, Singer (1972) argues about trying to find:
Distinction between duty and charity in some other place... that the present way of drawing the
distinction, which makes it an act of charity for a man living at the level of affluence, which most
people in the developed nations enjoy giving money to save someone else from starvation, cannot
be supported. (p. 235)
Lastly, Singer looks at the moral scheme of things and how they justify on giving aid and how
the principle of marginal unity can apply. As he states that we have an obligation and duty to
help others in famine suffering if we can do so, then it is in your morals scheme makeup to do
so. According to Singer (1972) states that he had, One objection to the position I have taken might
be simply that it is too drastic a revision of our moral scheme. People do not ordinarily judge in
the way I have suggested they should (p. 236). Another point that Singer made was that The
conclusion that should be drawn is that the best means of preventing famine, in the long run, is
population control (p. 240). Therefore, the point is to help if one is able to or better yet,

Definition Of Administrative Access Controls Essay
1.Administrative access controls define the human factors of security (Red Hat, n.d.). An
example would be having mandatory training before getting access to a certain room. If you do
not complete the training, then you will not have access. Other examples of administrative
access controls include personnel registration, recovery plans, and disaster preparedness.
Physical access controls are the implementation of security measures in a defined structure used
to deter or prevent unauthorized access to sensitive material and include restricted access rooms
that require a badge, password, or some other special permission to enter (Red Hat, n.d.). An
example of this would be not related to computers is a barhop standing at the door making sure
only 21+ adults enter. In a computer or business example, this could be only letting the IT guy
have access to the data center. He would have either a special card to let him in or he would have
to make a phone call and use a special passphrase to be granted access into the otherwise locked
room. Technical access controls use technology as a basis for controlling the access and usage of
sensitive data throughout a physical structure and over a network (Red Hat, n.d.). They include
tools used for identification, authentication, authorization, and accountability. They are software
components that enforce access controlmeasures for systems, programs, process, and information
(Harris, 2012). Technical access controls are

cost. If they produce just cartidiges and no one bought them, they would have all this material with
no alternative use. It also costs money to store. Having no alterative would lead to waste when they
could have reused the material to make something else. It gives them variety. They would not be
dependent on others because they only produce one thing. Other companies do not specialize for
the same reason because of opportunity cost. If I grew just potatoes I would get sick of just
eating potatoes, and they would go to waste. I also would be dependent on others. If I grew carrots

The Night Of The Broken Glass By Markus Zusak
On November 9, 1933, Joseph Goebbels made a speech that initiated a crowd of violent Nazi
activists who would burn down over 1,000 synagogues, and destroy over 7,000 businesses, thus
creating Kristallnacht, the night of the broken glass . Following this act, was the beginning of the
Holocaust. 6 months later, on May 10, 1933, members of the Nazi German Student Association, as
well as other university students, burned close to 25,00 volumes of un German books to promote
their nationwide campaign: Actions against the un German spirit .
Markus Zusak uses the monstrosities of the Kristallnacht and Jewish book burning period in his
book, The Book Thief as a reminder of the effects of the Nazi assaults on everyday life.
In this essay, I will explain the reasoning behind the Nazi book burnings and what kind of books
would have ended up in the fire that Leisel witnessed in The Book Thief. I will also argue that
The Book Thief presents a kind of protest against the Nazi assault on knowledge and social
consciousness through the celebration of reading and writing as a kind of power of human
capabilities. As part of the Hitlerite attempt to control society, Nazi members organized book
burning events in hopes to destroy all un German literacy. All material that was viewed
representations of forward thinking that opposed the ideologies of Nazism were banished and
eliminated. This act raises the question: what provoked the Nazi member to attack the literature of
communist,

We have been encouraged to wean ourselves away from incandescent light bulbs, and switch to energy saving bulbs, which we have now grown accustomed to, and in many cases have come to prefer, but what about flooring? Fortunately, flooring is also an area where you can go green, and do so in style. It is indeed possible to have great looking wood flooring in your home without contributing to worldwide deforestation. Wood Flooring and Sustainable Wood Flooring Your choices are many. Going green does not have to mean going without wood floors to keep trees from being harvested.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cork oak tree itself is the responsible party in this case, as the flooring material comes from bark that is shed from the tree. There is no need to cut a single tree down. The flooring material lies scattered around its base. Cork is also extensively used as core material for engineered wood flooring. Other Types of Sustainable Flooring Engineered wood is another good example of sustainable flooring material, since it only a small percentage of it is solid wood. The rest is scrap or recycled material. The same is true to an even greater extent with laminates. Although supplies are somewhat limited, recycled wood such as antique wood is an option. Old barn wood was once a very popular choice and still is, but old barns are unfortunately not sustainable, and are becoming scarcer with each passing year. There many examples of non wood sustainable flooring, including stone, ceramic, vinyl, rubber, and of course, carpeting. Many if not most homeowners like to have at least some wood flooring in their homes however. Fortunately, the choices of sustainable wood flooring are many and varied. Have no fear of going green. Or, does your work or travel schedule leave you eating in restaurants multiple times per week? If so, you re not alone. Nearly 60% of North Americans report eating out at least once per week. I believe that the whole point of being healthy is to enjoy your life more, thus it makes no sense to stop doing the things you enjoy in order to be healthy. The good news is that, with a bit of planning and a bit of know how, you can stick to a healthy eatingroutine and still enjoy meals out. Your plan of attack will depend on a few different factors: 1. With that being said, having a few strategies can help, and I m here to help! Before you go out: 1. Eat a small snack prior to going out, or at least ensure that you are not ravenous. If you are too hungry, especially to the point of feeling irritable, your desire to eat anything and everything can easily override your desire to choose a healthy option. 2. Decide ahead of time. If you are able to, research the menu online to see what the restaurant offers. It s easier to stick to a plan that you made ahead of time rather than to try to decide on the fly. If your plan is to indulge in whatever you want; then go for it; but decide ahead of time. 3.Change your mindset. Remind yourself that you re there to enjoy time with your friends or spouse, and that you happen to be eating food. Enjoy your food, but remember that it s just food. At the restaurant: 1. Start with water. Cold water, hot water, lemon water, soda water there s so many choices! If you choose to order a drink, enjoy something on the lighter fare such as a glass of wine, or alcohol mixed with soda water. • 11. Consequences Of Unisciplined Children In The Veldt By Ray... Consequences of undisciplined children Many people have witnessed a toddler having a meltdown in public only to have a parent sooth them by giving in to the child s demand. Although sometimes this can be a beneficial parenting technique, if a parent over indulges a child too often, then that child can become spoiled. However in The Veldt, Ray Bradburychallenges the idea of satisfying children; he suggests through his tragic tale of the spoiled and undisciplined children Wendy and Peter, that over indulged kids will be taught to not value their family. Through the use of spoiling kids, harms of technology, and conflict, Ray Bradbury shows children need to be disciplined in order to be well rounded individuals. Bradbury uses spoiling Wendy and Peter to show they weren t well rounded, by emphasizing that they were over indulged in materialistic wants. When parents Lydia and George were talking, Lydia explained, They re insufferable let s admit it. They come and go when they like; they treat us as if we were offspring. They re spoiled and we re spoiled. The description of how the parents feel provides the reader with a better understanding that even the parents can no longer control Wendy and Peter s disrespectful ways caused by their mistakes of spoiling the children. Bradbury establishes the kids as so over indulged that even Lydia and George could not discipline the children if they put their minds to it. Towards the end of the story we see that not being able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only do they frame the way we interact with the world, they also influence the way we think about it as a whole. So when one questions the ownership of these artefacts, they also question the historybehind it. Because the history of art is, for the most part, a history of theft; questions over its ownership are bound to ensue. So, how do we decide who owns art, and subsequently, history? Prevailing postcolonial ideologies, might characterise museums as imperial despoilers in which their possession of artefacts showcase the dispossession of cultural identity from the colonised,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Polybius was one of the first historians to criticise the Romans and their actions, and since only fragments of his ninth book have been preserved, the full extent of Polybius criticism is unattainable. However his strong disapproval of the seizure of the Syracusan art is clearly evident. Polybius stated, a city is not adorned by external splendours, but by the virtue of its inhabitants (Polybius, c.200 c.118 BC). He presented two rhetorical arguments against the removal of Syracusan art. Firstly, he claimed that art contributed nothing to the power and expansion of the city. Additionally, he also questioned whether the victors could become great while living simply. If they could, why should they imitate the weaker people they defeated? (Miles, 2008). Polybius stated that victors should not strip the cities under the idea that the misfortunes of another are an ornament to their own country (Polybius, c.200 c.118 BC). However, historian Erich S. Gruen argues that Polybius criticism of Roman extraction of art from Syracuse was a tactical error rather than a moral failure , as Polybius himself was bound by the envy and fear of what the art would incite in regards to Greco Roman relations (Gruen, 1992). Art looting became a standard practice after Napoleon took over the French army. Looting was undertaken to raise funds to support the war effort, and to elevate morale in Paris. This already tells me that Maximus is a very respected man and throughout the movie he is portrayed as a noble man, with noble traits and a soldier who knows of no limits when it comes to protecting either his men or his people. For Christine, educating oneself on morality and ignorance is essential in shaping one s individuality. By defining individuality as the unique journey to awareness and difference, communitybecomes a central point of conversion to direct one s education in context towards her newly converted identity. The Looking Glass Self is interpreted as a person s way they view or perceive themselves based off of how they feel that others see them (Conley, 2017), This is generally done in three steps, the first we would imagine how we appear to others, secondly, we envision which judgements were made based on that appearance, and finally how the person feels about us founded on their judgements. • 18. Incorporation of Natural Capital into Mainstream Policies Executive Summary This paper objectively advocates a paradigm shift that incorporates natural capital into mainstream policies, and businesses practices, at all levels. It sheds light on the role and importance of valuing natural capital; reasons why it has not been properly integrated into everyday decision making process; the risks associated with negligence; and the benefits of integration. A few examples were enlisted to help outline the opportunities that lie within the ecosystem, if only we can implement practices to utilize it sustainably. Individuals, corporations, and governments, must understand and account for their use of natural capital and be aware of the accurate cost of human and economic security. 1.0 Introduction Virgil (October 15, 70 BC September 21, 19 BC), a classical Roman poet once quoted the greatest wealth is health . In the quest for wealth, human beings degrade their health through actions such as sleep deprivation and stress from prolonged work just to make so much wealth which we ultimately spend on replenishing health. Depending on the level of damage done, we might not be able to sustain good health and die. The above statement, even though blinkered, is an opening for our broader focus of natural capital, which in spite of its utmost importance, is not appropriately implemented in modern day decision making process. Natural capital refers to environmental health and its primary function is life support. As human economic activities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. An Argument Analysis Of Mozart s Requiem In the last decade, the problem of Mozart s Requiem has divided itself into three categories which most of the scholars have majored on in an attempt to come up with a clear analysis of the arguments and various evidence. The three main problems include the authenticity problem viewed in a narrower sense, the instrumentation problem and the dating problem. According to Friedrich Blume, the question of authenticity comes in when the question of which parts were completed by Mozart and the other parts that were completed by the another composer. It is hard to determine if the other composer followed the concerns that Mozart would wish to be addressed. The issue of instrumentation also becomes of concern in the sense that whether the Sussmayr s manuscript of the whole Requiemuses the instrumentation that Mozart had indicated or whether it is out of the creativity of the master. The dating problem was whether Mozart finished the work when he was on his deathbed or whether he had composed the Requiem before he fell ill. Such problems of the Requiem could only be answered by his close friends who died before the controversy arose. Looking further into this investigation this document will analyze the problems of the Requiem based on arguments from the five scholars: Thomas Bauman, Paul Moseley, Simon Keefe, Christoph Wolff, and Richard Maunder. Bauman provides a thoughtful analysis of the completion of Mozart s Requiem by Richard Maunder. He bases his argument on the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barnes 11/28/17 Superstition Within Petronius The Satirycon Written during the 1st century A.D., the Satyricon is often referred to as the first Roman novel. The novel has only survived for us in fragments, and for this reason it is impossible for the modern reader to reconstruct its plot completely. However, the Satyriconserves as an invaluable source of information about the daily life and language of the Roman populace. Petronius deliberately reproduces plebeian language and slang, offering a rare insight into everyday Roman life, which polished and refined works leave absent. Petronius focuses on the large social gap between the freed slaves and scholars of the time and how superstition can show that gap. The main scene that superstition is shown is during Trimalchio s Feast. The scene in the novel titled as Trimalchio s feast, describes an elaborate dinner party hosted by Trimalchio, a businessman and immigrant who gained riches in Rome without any elegance or an education fit for an aristocrat of the time. This section has been preserved more completely than some of the more fragmented chapters of the novel, its themes and motifs are able to develop more fully and be more closely understood as Petronius had originally intended. • 30. The Amazon Is Oil Rich And The Extraction An increased demand for oil has led oil associations to become desperate in finding new oil manufacturers. Unfortunately, the Amazon is oil rich and the extraction has created a lot of implications for the environment and culture existing in the Amazon. The Amazon is home to many natural resources due to its vegetation that continuously recycles carbon dioxide into oxygen. Some of the world s most promising oil and gas deposits lie deep in the tropical rainforests, especially in the Western Amazon. Just until recently there has been more promise in Middle Eastern countries. With oil at historically high prices, the incentive to develop oil resources has never been greater. The main concerns of the oil extraction in the Amazon are deforestation, indigenous conflict, biodiversity loss and pollution. In order to extract oil there must be a course to enter deep into forest, and there needs to be sufficient space for the oil rigs to be operated and therefore much of the rainforest is being deforested. Many local communities are displaced and harmed by the operation of the oil rig and the pollution. Surrounding areas lose natural resources that would have been obtained from the forest s natural abundance. This is caused by deforestation, pollution and other environmental consequences. Oil extraction also threatens many key stone species in the Amazon. Due to oil spills and other toxic waste, much of the soil and river is polluted. • 31. Types of Cataract Surgery Cataract surgery is among the most common procedures performed in older people and is one of the oldest procedures known. It is done due to the lens becoming cloudy and leads to the vision being affected. This happens when proteins in the lens clump together causing the cloudy area to become larger, affecting vision more over time. The most common cause is age related, but it could also be due to other reasons such as traumatic, diabetic, radiation, secondary and congenital. The first type of cataract treatment done was known as couching. This technique could only be performed on lenses that were completely opaque, rigid and heavy to the point where the zonules were fragile. The eye would then be struck with a blunt object with enough force to cause the zonules to break causing the lens to dislocate and lie in the vitreous cavity, restoring limited, completely unfocussed vision. Centuries later, this technique was modified where a sharp instrument was inserted into the eye to break the zonules. In 1748, the first surgical cataract removal occurred in Paris. Topical anesthetic was instilled and an incision was made that went halfway around the cornea and the entire opaque lens was removed. It was important that the lens was ripened meaning completely hardened so that the lens would not break into pieces when being removed. • 36. A Rose For Emily Grierson Point Of View A Rose for Emily follows a first person account of part of Miss Emily Grierson s life leading up to her death. The narrator talks as if they were speaking for the entire population of Jefferson, but it is more likely that they are just stating their own opinion on Miss Emily under the guise of the townsfolk. The point of view in this novel shows an incomplete, or inaccurate opinion on Miss Emily Grierson because of the narrators own bias. In section 1 the narrator describes Miss Emily as being viewed as a fallen monument (79) when she died, but when she was alive she was a tradition, a duty and a care (79). This is the first example the reader gets of the narrators conflicting bias towards Miss Emily. It is likely that when she was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four men had snuck onto her property instead of consulting her about it to sprinkle lime around and in her buildings. When the smell eventually disappears the narrator states that the town began to feel sorry for her because of the madness that ran in her family. The narrator almost immediately contradicts himself by stating that it was believed the Griersons held themselves a little too high for what they really were (81), and that the death of Miss Emily s father was a good thing because now she would be humanized (81) and would know the thrill and the old despair of a penny more or less (81). When Miss Emily s father died, she kept his body within the house for as long as possible and claimed that her father was not dead. Soon after the death, they were about to resort to law, she broke down and let them bury her father. The narrator becomes sympathetic after, stating that we were sympathetic towards Miss Emily s grieving process, even saying We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that. We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and we knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, which people will (81). This shows another inaccurate view of the towns opinion of Miss Emily at this point in time, because not everyone in Jefferson would share the same opinion nor would everyone believe that she wasn t crazy. The narrator groups everyone in Jefferson together, making the town as a whole a character by generalizing what would have been their opinions or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, Singer (1972) argues about trying to find: Distinction between duty and charity in some other place... that the present way of drawing the distinction, which makes it an act of charity for a man living at the level of affluence, which most people in the developed nations enjoy giving money to save someone else from starvation, cannot be supported. (p. 235) Lastly, Singer looks at the moral scheme of things and how they justify on giving aid and how the principle of marginal unity can apply. As he states that we have an obligation and duty to help others in famine suffering if we can do so, then it is in your morals scheme makeup to do so. According to Singer (1972) states that he had, One objection to the position I have taken might be simply that it is too drastic a revision of our moral scheme. People do not ordinarily judge in the way I have suggested they should (p. 236). Another point that Singer made was that The conclusion that should be drawn is that the best means of preventing famine, in the long run, is population control (p. 240). • 39. Definition Of Administrative Access Controls Essay 1.Administrative access controls define the human factors of security (Red Hat, n.d.). An example would be having mandatory training before getting access to a certain room. If you do not complete the training, then you will not have access. Other examples of administrative access controls include personnel registration, recovery plans, and disaster preparedness. Physical access controls are the implementation of security measures in a defined structure used to deter or prevent unauthorized access to sensitive material and include restricted access rooms that require a badge, password, or some other special permission to enter (Red Hat, n.d.). An example of this would be not related to computers is a barhop standing at the door making sure only 21+ adults enter. In a computer or business example, this could be only letting the IT guy have access to the data center. He would have either a special card to let him in or he would have to make a phone call and use a special passphrase to be granted access into the otherwise locked room. Technical access controls use technology as a basis for controlling the access and usage of sensitive data throughout a physical structure and over a network (Red Hat, n.d.). They include tools used for identification, authentication, authorization, and accountability. They are software components that enforce access controlmeasures for systems, programs, process, and information (Harris, 2012). Technical access controls are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having no alterative would lead to waste when they could have reused the material to make something else. It gives them variety. They would not be dependent on others because they only produce one thing. Other companies do not specialize for the same reason because of opportunity cost. • 42. The Night Of The Broken Glass By Markus Zusak On November 9, 1933, Joseph Goebbels made a speech that initiated a crowd of violent Nazi activists who would burn down over 1,000 synagogues, and destroy over 7,000 businesses, thus creating Kristallnacht, the night of the broken glass . Following this act, was the beginning of the Holocaust. 6 months later, on May 10, 1933, members of the Nazi German Student Association, as well as other university students, burned close to 25,00 volumes of un German books to promote their nationwide campaign: Actions against the un German spirit . Markus Zusak uses the monstrosities of the Kristallnacht and Jewish book burning period in his book, The Book Thief as a reminder of the effects of the Nazi assaults on everyday life. In this essay, I will explain the reasoning behind the Nazi book burnings and what kind of books would have ended up in the fire that Leisel witnessed in The Book Thief. I will also argue that The Book Thief presents a kind of protest against the Nazi assault on knowledge and social consciousness through the celebration of reading and writing as a kind of power of human capabilities. As part of the Hitlerite attempt to control society, Nazi members organized book burning events in hopes to destroy all un German literacy. All material that was viewed representations of forward thinking that opposed the ideologies of Nazism were banished and eliminated. This act raises the question: what provoked the Nazi member to attack the literature of communist, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
