Av Node Analysis
The heart has distinguished components that allow the pathway of electrical conduction to travel
through the heart in order to effectively pump blood through the body. The electrical impulse
initiates in the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is located in the posterior wall of the right atrium,
near the superior vena cava. It is also known as being the physiologic pacemaker of the heartand has
an intrinsic firing rate of 60 100 impulses/min. From the SA node, the electrical impulse flows
directly to the Atrioventricular node (AV node) with the guidance of intercalated discs and gap
junctions. The AV node is located in the back section of the interatrial septum near the coronary
sinus and tricuspid valve. Here, there is a delay of .1 seconds to allow the atria to contract and the
ventricles to fill. In addition, this delay regulates the ventricles if there were an abnormal atrial
rhythm. The AV node works as a secondary pacemaker if the SA is irregular, firing at 40 60 pulses
/min. After leaving the AV node, the electrical impulse travels to the bundle of His. The bundle of
His forms the only myocardial connection between the atria and ventricles. Additionally, the bundle
of His divides the bundle branches into left and right and innervates the ventricles through Purkinje
fibers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myocardial cells sustain their electrical gradient among their membrane, with the inside being
slightly more negative. The resting potential is regulated by channels and pumps distributed inside
and outside of the cell. As the cell depolarizes, the gate of the calcium channel opens, allowing
calcium to enter the cell. The calcium flowing into the cell simultaneously results in initiating the
action potential. With depolarization, the potassium channels then open, while the calcium
channels close. Repolarization occurs when potassium leaves the cells, and then the whole cycle
begins

The Post-Civil War Era
American actor and playwright, Ayad Akhtar reflected, I see the American experience as being
defined by the immigrant paradigm of rupture and renewal: rupture with the old world, the old
ways, and renewal of the self in a bright but difficult New World. While Akhtar was reflecting on
the current society in America, the experience in the Post Civil War era was similar in it s ability
to fight the old and make room for the new. To give a connotative definition, the American
Experience was the act of fighting and using every opportunity for oneself to survive in a
competitive and ever changing market of social, political, and artistic construct. Many artists,
authors and other creators influenced this definition with their work by their portrayal... Show more

During Reconstruction, the point of it was to integrate former slaves into normal societal life.
Unfortunately, because many African Americans were never fully compensated for slavery,
much of the black population lived in rural poverty in the South and faced discrimination from
Black codes and labor contracts (Recchiuti). Like explained before, this struggle within the black
community shaped the American experience. What Homer did was capture the daily lives of
Post Civil war African Americans in order to convey how they successfully survived in a place
that formerly segregated itself from the union to keep them as slaves. In his watercolours, The
Conch Divers (1885) and The Water Fan (1898 99), Winslow understood the importance of using
every aspect to emanate the political hardships that the black community still faced. His portrayal
of black workers on a ship in The Conch Divers shows how they were still treated like slaves in
the way that they all lack shirts and what clothing they had is torn, the work that they are doing is
painstaking, and no doubt that Homer had in mind the very minimal compensation the workers
were receiving when he used such pale colours to depict the scene. Here Winslow Homer is
showing the working struggle of an African American and how they are still surviving with what
little they were given. This

International Surrogacy Essay
Zhang, Kai Min P7
International Surrogacy (cons)
Thesis Statement In today s society, surrogacy is becoming a more and more popular and common
issue. For many couples who cannot or unwilling to carry babies by themselves, surrogacy is the
first choice to have their own babies and build a family. The legality of surrogacy is different for
every country. There are countries that consider the birth mother as the legal mother while there are
those that don t. Besides, a lower price of surrogacy in developing countries drives them to find
surrogate mother overseas. Thus, international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Was the baby Indian or Japanese? Because of different laws between India and Japan, the
problem became very complicated. Their surrogacy contract didn t mention this situation. There
are no any existing laws to help to clarify the matter. This case shows that the unperfected
contract and laws may make the intended couples into trouble if something unexpectedly
happened. There is another case about international surrogacy. According to the article Couple
Given Right to Raise Surrogate Thai children. , An Australian couple has been granted the right
to raise twins born to a surrogate mother in Thailand even though the commercial surrogacy
agreement they entered into is illegal. The couple Mr. Ellison and Ms. Solano comes from
Queensland. The twins were artificially conceived using the sperm from the man and eggs from
an anonymous donor at a Thai fertility clinic, and were carried and delivered by a Thai woman.
The problem is, however, it is illegal to enter into an international commercial surrogacy in
Queensland. If prosecuted, the couple would have faced a maximum three year jail sentence. To
pay a woman for surrogacy is not illegal in Thailand, but in different states of Australia, the laws
of surrogacy are different. Under Queensland s law, it is illegal to pay a woman for surrogacy.
Finally, the court judged that Mr. Ellison was the biological father of the twins. This case
highlights Australia s complex surrogacy laws and the legal disputes of

Land Rights in Australia Essay
This essay is about the land rights of of Australia and how Eddie Marbo was not happy about his
land been taken away from him. In May 1982 Eddie Marbo and four other people of the Murray
Islands began to take action in the high court of Australia and confirming their land rights. Eddie
Marbo was a torres islander who thought that the Australian laws were wrong and who went to
fight and try and change them. He was born in 1936 on Mer which is known as Murray Island. The
British Crown in the form of the colony of Queensland became of the sovereign of the islands when
they were annexed in1978. They claimed continued enjoyment of there land rights and that had not
been validly extinguished by the sovereign. (Australian Bureau of Statistics... Show more content on

Marbo did not just give up on this and he kept on trying to get his land rights and get other rights
for indigenous people of Australia.
There was a lot of significant things that happened in the Marbo decision. Marbo changed a lot of
the rights for the Australian indigenous people. He got the land rights and human rights back for
them. It still wasn t easer for Mabo to win his rights though because they wanted to mine his land
and make money out of it. In the year 1993 Federal Pavement had passed the Native Title act which
had established legal framework for the native claims through out the country. Unfortunately
Eddie Marbo was not around to see his victory. He had died of cancer and he was fifty five years
old. It was just before the high courts decision. There were two of the five Murray Island
plaintiffs were alive by the time when the ruling was handed down. The third anniversary was held
at Eddies grave. Eddie Marbo s body went back to the Murray Islands were he lived most of his life.
(Patrick Hatch,2013)
When the decision went through the indigenous people had there rights they could stand on. They
could have there own rights to have there land and have there rights to live and have the right
treatment in this world. It was not fair how the governments also ripped the children away from
there families as well. The Marbo decision was a very significant and a very important moment in

What Similarities Between Ancient China And Islam
Ancient China and the ancient world of Islam have paved the way for the rest of the world in
regards to many things, one of which being art. Though these two worlds reside far from each
other, their art is still similar in some ways. In China, the people have mastered the skills of
calligraphy, ceramic pottery, painting, and of creation silk. In the world of Islam, the people have
mastered the skills of calligraphy, ceramics, metalwork, and of creating carpets. Ancient Chinese
calligraphy is similar to the Islamic worlds calligraphy because the symbolism around the practice
was the same. The task of writing the script, even if the language differs, was considered a holy
one. Even though the two countries created their pottery in a different

Money Matters Syllabus
The person I chose to write a profile on is my Money Matters course teacher, Brian Bean. The
thing is he is not just a phenomenal teacher, but I trust he has invented one of the best math courses
an educator could teach before students enter the real world. The course he created and designed
was meant to prepare high school students to juggle the practical aspects of the real world in their
daily after they graduate. Brian created a unique problem solving model that trained students on
how to breakdown a decision, identify the resources at their disposal, generate appropriate
solutions, and when necessary communicate effectively their conclusions and understandings.
Ultimately, this course is about finding out who you are, what your challenges will be, and what
your path to success will look like.
The motivation for this course he created was an actual a real life experience he ran into; he was a
victim of one of the worst things that could happen to just about anyone. Brian came upon a
company that advertised it would double his money if he invested money into their company. At the
time this company seemed very legitimate to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

banks stating he owed this much for these things, but Brian didn t have that kind of money so he
started to panic and things started to unravel. As he started to figure what this company really was
he concluded that it was a Ponzi scheme, once Brian gathered all of the information the guy that
ran it was already down in South America, living life with all the money he gained from the Ponzi
scheme. By definition, a Ponzi scheme is intended to persuade the public to place their money into

In Hurricane Hits England the techniques used are personification, she says Talk to me oya

Best Single Measure Of The Economic Well-Being Of A Society
According to the economics textbook used in the classroom, gross domestic product (GDP) can be
defined as the market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given
period of time. There are four major components of gross domestic product including consumption,
investment, government purchases, and net exports. Each of these components plays a major roles
when dealing with GDP and when attempting to understand the role of the gross domestic product
when measuring a nation s income. It has been said that when measuring a nation s income GDP
per capita seems to be the best available objective measure. The textbook states GDP was called

This is important because there are many negative consequences that should be taken into
consideration in regards to the environment. Some of the consequences that should be considered
are the side effects of economic expansion such as pollution, lack of natural resources and it also
does not account for the way that we gain and benefit from the environment. Some examples of
economic benefits that we receive from the environment are lands we can sell, trees and plants
that are put up for sale, use of environmental factors to build and produce other products among
many other things that can also be included economically beneficial from environmental factors.
Not only do the side effects have an impact on the environment such as pollution, they also have
an impact on the economy because money that was used to destroy the environment such as
building and factories is also being used in an attempt to repair the economy such as rebuilding
reefs and investing in national parks. The overall quality of the environment is very important to

Tracy Smith Poetry
Tracy K. Smith, a renowned poet and author, writes a beautiful and thoughtful poem named Don t
You Wonder, Sometimes? as a tribute to the iconic musician and actor David Bowie. Her message
incorporates the use of time and how it runs quickly and she asks readers through multiple
questions, if they could go back in timeand take back previous decisions they made when they were
younger, would they? She employs the use of multiple questions to integrate the reader into the
poem and aid them in thinking about the questions she asks. She asks questions such as, To be
wanted back badly enough? Would you go then,/Even for a few nights, into that other life where
you/And that first she loved, blind to the future once, and happy? (Smith 8 10).... Show more

Lines that exemplify her idolizing of the musician include lines two and three, they state Not
God, exactly. More like/Some thin hipped glittering Bowie being a Starman (Smith 2 3).
Comparing Bowie to a celestial being of some sorts implies how much he means to her and his
emphasis on her life. A couple lines down she even alludes to him having immortality Bowie
will never die. Nothing will come for him in his sleep/Or charging through his veins. And he ll
never grow old, (Smith 16 17). Again, Smith implies that Bowie is immortal and he cannot die.
She could also be alluding to how his music and his films will forever live on even after he dies.
(She wrote this poem in 2011 5 years before he died.) Smith also incorporates lyrics from Bowie
s songs into her poem. These lyrics for readers that have not listened to Bowie s music would be
useless and hard to find, but for those that have listened to his music they shine bright and are
easily followed and bring those songs to the forefront of the reader s mind. Songs such as Sound
and Vision , Starman , and Life on Mars are all incorporated in someway into her poem or the book

Being The Only Child And The Youngest Grandchild Has Made...
Being the only child and the youngest grandchild has made me the spoiled brat ever known. My
family has carried me on as the baby. I was the child with most birthday and Christmas presents
and have always succeeded in what I wanted. November 18, 2009, the twins, Jazzlin and
Jahnyah were born and two weeks later my life changed. The first time I saw the twins, they
were small and extremely hard to tell apart. I was a little rough around the edges and was not
allowed to hold them, but I made sure every day after school to ask someone to take me to see
them again. One day after my mom had left work, her phone rings. My heart raced as I tried to
listen and figured out what is going on. I remember thinking, why does she keep saying she can
not handle a baby especially two? Finally, after my mom the phone call she explained that she
has to take custody of the twins or people will take them away. At only ten years old, I sat with
excitement and said, So now I basically have twins sisters? Finally someone to play with! As we
made our way to the door I realized the twin s mother is crying and thanking my mom. I did not
know that it was such a sad thing. A woman came up to my mom with some papers and asked her
questions. Me, not really know what was going, kept interrupting my mom the woman by asking
questions like, Why is she asking you questions? Can we just get them and leave? I m hungry,
what are we going to eat? My mom shooed me away, signed the papers

Essay On The Trojan War
During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the
Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent
city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There
are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event
stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of
the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The
Odyssey. The Trojan War
was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave
warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey.
Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later
on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles
, married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their
marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris,
who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden
apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War
because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next.
They quarreled over the apple and the title of it possessed and decided to ask Paris, a mortal
prince, who truly was the fairest, most magnificent, goddess. They then bribed Paris with riches

Blood Bananas: Chiquita in Columbia
As learned in class, the advantages of international business are great, but so are the risks. Some of
the risks involve ethical issues as the ones Chiquita faced doing business in Columbia. Chiquita was
the first to successfully internationalize banana trade; Chiquita did so by paying special attention to
retail development and followed industry trends. Their competitive advantage was acquired when

Before a company decides to internationalize, many researches should be done on culture, political
situation and so much more. Knowing other countries laws and regulations will prevent such
lawsuit against your company. Codes of conducts, ethics hotlines should be provided to
employees and that has to come from the top management. Companies should look at long term
goals versus short term goals; companies whose culture is to just make profits at any cost faces
these type of situation Chiquita faced often. Even though outsourcing is a great way to cut back
on costs, companies should be very careful which countries they select to outsource in to prevent
them from having a bad reputation. For example if a company chose to outsource in let s say
Nigeria, things are very corrupt and doing business, outsourcing from there could be very
profitable but in a very un ethical way. How you want to represent your firm depends on the
character of you as a CEO. Either you make unethical decisions and get profitable very fast and
get shares doubled in the wall street at any cost, or you have ethics and you rather do things right
and slowly get to profits. Strategic planning is extremely important in doing business abroad,
abiding by your core values and helping the community, making sure the public recognizes your
firm in a positive always attract customers which generate more revenues. The current CFO

Staying Put By Scott Russell Sander Analysis
In Scott Russell Sanders s passage, Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World, he states
Our Promised Land has always been over the next ridge or at the end of the trail, never under our
feet (Sanders 6). He is describing why humans migrate from one place to the next in order to
find the Promised Land and how many Americans continue to chase the ideal land (Sanders 6).
Sanders passage was a response to Salman Rushdie s views on mass migration and how it is
very important for many American. However, Sanders disagrees Rushdie s views mass migration
has led to many consequences and counters them with his view. Sanders believes that it is
important to be an inhabitants than migrants as, putting down roots allows oneself to take care of
the land and have a proper home. As migrating makes oneself lose their culture and respect for the
land. In Scott Russell Sanders s, Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World, he utilizes the
rhetorical appeal pathos and hyperbole to emphasize his views on mass migration. Sanders

species uses a polygynous mating system. A polygynous mating system is defined as one male
mate with multiple females within a breeding season (Flatz, R. et al,2012). The females and males
of Sea Lions have different behaviors when reproducing. The females can only produce a limited
number of offspring therefore they maximize their success by producing high quality offspring.
There are numerous ways the male does to ensure their genes are passed on to the next generation
such as aggression. The males maximize their reproductive success by mating with many females to

Booker T. Washington s Influence on Historically Black...
BOOKER T. WASHINGTON: THE AMBIGUITY OF INFLUENCE ABSTRACT My paper will
discuss the continuing influence of Booker T. Washington s writings on historically black colleges.
While my paper will focus on the ways in which the historically black college continues to adhere
to the model provided by Washington, it will also explore the ways in which it diverges from the
early Hampton Tuskegee ideal. According to James D. Anderson in The Education of Blacks in the
South, both contemporary observers and later historians have portrayed the white south as taking a
monolithic view of black education. However, many secondary schools in the south did not
emphasize the kind of industrial education advocated by Washington. In the same manner,... Show

The first freedmen s schools were run by the freedmen and women themselves. Booker T.
Washington s account of his own perseverence in securing his education is poignantly told in Up
From Slavery. Yet with Washington s influence, a shift began from educating students in a liberal
arts tradition to an industrial training mode. Unfortunately, by the turn of the century, with the help
of the benefactor Samuel Chapman Armstrong, the Hampton Tuskegee Idea had come to
represent the ideological antithesis of the educational and social movement begun by ex slaves
(33). In order for freed slaves to fully participate in a democracy, a classical liberal curriculum was
adopted in post Civil War black, elementary, normal and collegiate schools. As James D. Anderson
aptly points out, Black leaders did not view their adoption of the classical liberal curriculum or its
philosophical foundations as mere imitation of white schooling. Indeed, they knew many whites
who had no education at all. Rather, they saw this curriculum as providing access to the best
intellectual traditions of their era and the best means to understanding their own historical
development and sociological uniqueness. (Anderson 29) In fact, black educators like Richard
Wright found support in the classics for racial equality; the study of the classics was a means to

Recollection Of Meno, Anytus And The Slave Boy
Meno:
My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates demonstration of recollection
with the slave boy and the contrast between Meno, Anytus and the Slave boy. Socrates
demonstrates what he refers to as recollection by asking Meno s slave leading questions until he
is able to demonstrate to the boy that the length of the side of a square whose area has been
doubled in size is not double of the previous length as the boy previously thought. This method,
called the Socratic method, has been employed by different teachers of mine in the past while
instructing me. It was interesting for me to find out about its origin. While reading the dialogue, it
became clear that Meno did not have a teachable spirit (or he was unwilling to learn). The contrast
if his, Anytus and the slave boy s attitudes showed a clear difference between someone who is
willing to be instructed and someone who is not. Anytus seemed to be the most unwilling of the
two because he refused to investigate before jumping to conclusions (as he did during the
discussion about the Sophists).
Phaedrus:
My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates idea of the soul and his story of
Theuth and Thamus. Socrates described the soul as the innate power of a winged team of horses
and a charioteer . In a man s soul, one of the horses is of good stock and the other is not. The
better the stock of the man s horses, the higher his soul can fly, and the better his vision of things as

Bacon s Rebellion Thesis Statement
Historical topic: Bacons Rebellion I. Introduction
Thesis statement: Bacon s Rebellion is considered the first documented outburst of rebellions
against the Colonial Government which included different races working together, it threatened a
corrupt government, unified races to take part together, and was a fight for a liberty and equality.
II. Background
A. In 1676, Nathaniel Bacon, who was a Henrico farmer, led a series of expeditions against the
Governor of Virginia, Sir william Berkeley. These expeditions were led to defend the frontier from
against Indian attack. Sir William Berkeley however, thought to deal with the Indians in a different

Why Some Countries and Cities Are So Much More Expensive Than Others

But if he had visited ten years ago, it might have been closer to 50 cents. As India has become
more productive over the last few decades, wages in the tradable sector (IT) rose, pulling up
wages in the nontradable sector (waiters), and the currency has appreciated. There is a still a major
price difference D.C. and Delhi. One dollar will pay for much less stuff in America than its
equivalent in rupees will buy in India. But as Indian exports continue to grow, one should expect
Shyam s lunch to get more and more expensive.
There is much more to price levels than the Nanny Effect. Much, much, much more. Restrictive
urban policy raises the price of rent in similarly productive cities. Energy policies and levies raise or
lower the price of gas. Tariffs raise the price of imports. On a nation by nation basis, taxes restrain
demand and subsidies increase supply on an idiosyncratic basis.
But perhaps the easiest way to mess with Balassa and Samuelson is for a government to
manipulate foreign exchange rates. China, for example, is famous for pegging its currency to the
U.S. dollar to make its exports more competitive. As a result, services in China are probably
cheaper than they would be if the government weren t actively trying to depreciate the currency. If
you re happily wondering Why is China so cheap? you should thank Beijing.

An Income Wave Analysis
Alt j (∆) is a British indie rock band that was formed in 2007 and released their first album in
2012 An Awesome wave produced by Charlie Andrew. Over the past few years, the four piece band
have taken the indie rock music scene by storm winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in
2012 and their second album going straight to number one in the UK. The band members met
whilst studying at Leeds University and it was there that the four of them started to experiment
with musictogether, all bringing different abilities, styles and musical influences to the band.

This helps to balance the song with not putting too much emphasis on the drums and rather having
them intwined with the instumental. Alt j drummer Thom Green said that Phil Selways drumming
definitely influenced my style. The off beats and the odd time signatures, he just fits so well with
the instrumental, and I just started playing like that (Rolling stone, 2015). As Charlie Andrews
explains in an interview with Sound on Sound, 2013, drummer Thom Green does not use
cymbals, The only slightly cymbal like thing he uses is the back end of a saucepan, which he uses
for the hi hat, and that in itself is quite a unique sound. That gives you a lot of space to mess
around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also
mentions that the snare drum used is a tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop.
This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the
snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). Buy using these kind of makeshift, minimalist drum sounds, it
ads to the songs organic and worldly feel as though they are tribal percussion instruments rather

The Major Empires Of West Africa From 1200-1500
1) What were the major empires of West Africa from 1200 1500? What were their major industries,
modes of social organization? What were their standards of living and lifespans compared to
Europe?
The Mali empire was established in 1235. It was the largest and the richest empire in the African
Middle Ages. During this time Malian emperors relied on a small central administration, which was
primarily concerned with finances and justice. (Patterns of World History pg. 400) The empire
financed itself through tributes and taxes, but their main source of income relied on trade. The Mali
would often trade long distance through merchants and scholars. In Timbuktu, the Mali would
produce or mine for salt, creating a Salt Trade Hub in Timbuktu. Timbuktu was also important
because it was one of the most important scholarly cities in the world that held massive libraries.
Mansa Musa the Malian ruler who annexed Timbuktu. He wanted to share his wealth with his
people, so he founded a college, a library, and part of Sankore Mosque. Mansa Musa lived a very
lavish and luxurious life and tried to share that life with his people. This actually put in the gold
markets in relapse because he put too much gold into circulation, but it influenced Malians to
become scholars and at a higher standard of living.

The problem itself is not one that can be fixed in a few nights, what has been done to the spheres
is almost irreversible with a few exceptions. The severity of this problem isn t one that can
completely alter the way we live but at the same time every action has an equal opposite
reaction. Due to the frequency of the emissions the spheres can be greatly impacted. Many
people have been affected by these emissions and most of the illnesses given to these people are
very damaging or terminal. On average every 3 7 years a building is repainted and depending on
the size of the building many VOCs are released. As well as the frequent times the inside of the
buildings are repainted and just creating artwork. Also VOC emissions are two to five times higher

would be able to buy just the regular colors without having to mix as much as the VOC free

It is an iconic passage alluding to gender stereotype which exists in our society, the dynamic
between the powerful and the weak. The particular section from scene three portrays how
women are being dominated and victimised by men. It would be perceived that the extract has

containing biotic and abiotic factors, which aimed to sustain life without contact with the outside
world throughout a period of six weeks. For the procedure, the ecosystem was to be observed over
this time. The experiment began when a one quart mason jar with its contents was sealed on
October 7, 2015. In the beginning of the experiment, the known contents of the jar and initial
rationales behind them (italicized) included: в—ЏWater from the middle pond filled to the 600 mL

gases at the surface в—ЏPond mud filled approximately halfway between the bottom and 100 mL

One cycle that was visually observed was the water cycle. Shown in the Amount of and
Condensation Size graph on page two, a specific cycle was seen. At the times of the high density
of droplets, most of the time the condensation was much like a mist, having just evaporated and
not yet condensed. However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got
bigger, they would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated,
as shown by the graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the
carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was
trapped in the jar, producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae
throughout the observation period. In addition, since the algae survived and appeared to have
grown, the organisms must have been supplying the producers with their necessary carbon

Introduction
There are different kinds of research methods used the qualitative and quantitative research
methods. Qualitative research methods are gaining popularity outside the traditional academic
social sciences. On the other hand when we talk about quantitative research method, so there was a
time when they were dominated and were influencing these fields. My observational research has
given me a valuable insight into the perspective of studying the marketing methodologies,
especially about the pharmaceutical field.
The knowledge gathered from this visit to a pharmacy, provided some critical and comprehensive
solutions to public health and to maintain a proper check and balance in order to get higher
results. By implementing proper policies we can enhance the quality of life, we can develop our
countries, and our social life will be much easier if we gave the adequate attention the field of
medicine needs.
The pharmacy which I visited is known as Medico Pharmacy . The visit was a very good one. I
intended to find out the maximum information which I could get from there and I was very much
successful to some extent. I did a systemic and ethical qualitative research on their management and
routine of marketing.

A Study On Low Back Pain Patients With Associated Leg Pain...
Abstract
Background: Low back pain patients with associated leg pain symptoms generally have a poorer
prognostic outcome compared to those with localised low back pain. Therefore, this study will
investigate the difference in clinical outcomes associated with low back pain patients with and
without self reported leg pain symptoms. This study will also address if additional co factors such
as age, sex, and occupation have an effect on the severity of these clinical outcomes. The clinical
outcomes which will be considered are pain rating, interference with active daily living (ADL)
rating, anxiety rating, depression rating and control of pain rating.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study compares adult low back pain patients with localised pain
(n = 58) to low back pain patients with self reported leg pain symptoms (n = 54) who presented for
chiropractic treatment. Patients completed the WIOC patient outcomes questionnaire as baseline
which consisted of the Bournemouth Questionnaire, recording responses from an 11 point
numerical scale (NRS). Demographic information was also collected. Differences between the two
groups using the data collected from this questionnaire were calculated using the Mann Whitney U

Men face many health risks as they age. It is important for men to have regular check ups with their

male reproductive gland that produces the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. It surrounds
the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body. As men age, past the age of fifty,
it is common for the prostate to become enlarged, a condition known as BPH. BPH stands for

These treatments are used when the physician does not feel that conventional surgery is yet

hot water water induced thermotherapy (WIT) and laser interstitial laser coagulation (ILC) and
holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). Surgery may be recommended if you have
incontinence, recurrent blood in the urine, urinary retention, recurrent UTI s, kidney failure or
bladder stones. There are a few surgical options for BPH. The type of procedure is usually based
on the severity of your symptoms and the size and shape of your prostate gland. The first
procedure is called a transurethral resection of the prostate also known as TURP. This is the
most common and most proven treatment for BPH. A TURP is performed by inserting a scope
through the penis and removing the prostate piece by piece. The next surgical option is known as
transurethral incision of the prostate also known as TUIP. The procedure is similar to a TURP,
but is usually performed to men who have a smaller prostate. This procedure does not usually
require a hospital stay. Similar to a TURP, a scope is inserted through the penis until the prostate is

Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s Lord Of The Flies
Writing has always been the primary vehicle for social commentary and reform. From Upton
Sinclair s damning exposure of the meat processing industry in The Jungle, to George Orwell s
grave warning concerning communism in Animal Farm, to William Goulding s disturbing look at
human nature post World War 2 in Lord of the Flies, countless authors have attempted to expose
flaws in their society through writing. Rome, as a growing republic, and later as a sprawling
empire, was consistently rife with corruption, abuse of power, and the degradation of morals.
Writers like Sallust, Juvenal, and Tacitussaw these social flaws as opportunities, whether to drive
social or political change, or to increase their influence, or just to make a statement to the
government and the Roman people. However, these three writers each took a different approach to
his commentary. Through comedic hyperbole and satire, Juvenal looked to expose the moral
degradation of Roman women in Satire VI. On the other hand, Sallust focused on political
corruption in the late Roman Republic, using the history of the Jugurthine War as a lens by which
to observe the corruption he despised. With yet another approach, Tacitus aimed to criticize despots
like Emperor Domitian and to denounce imperialism through the biography of Agricola, the Roman
general who conquered Britain.
The Jugurthine War (114 118) (Marius s speech) Living from 86 to 35 BC, Gaius Sallustius
Crispus, more commonly knowns as Sallust, was the

unique characteristics of Hawaii, but it also taught me the skills needed to accommodate and
thrive in a new environment. Time management was one of these necessities required for
maintaining a balance between work and play. Before I went on this trip I was unaware of what
it would be like to have to deal with the daily responsibilities that aren t usually present in a
typical teenage life. Living with complete strangers and no longer having a parent s support can
be a tremendous change in a person s life. Having a sneak peek into that was exceptionally
helpful in making me aware of the future to come. These discoveries will be useful upon my
move to college where I will be living independently for the first time. I was able to experience an
unbelievable trip to somewhere incredible and completely different from the rest of the world.
Most people do not get a chance to partake in something like this in their lifetime, and I feel very
lucky to have been involved in it, and extremely thankful for the change that it

Analysis of Slaughterhouse-Five, a Novel Written by Kurt...
Slaughterhouse Five, a novel written by Kurt Vonnegut, tells the story of the devastating effects of
war on a man, Billy Pilgrim, who joins the army fight in World War II. The semi autobiographical
novel sheds light on one of history s most tragic, yet rarely spoken of events, the 1945 fire
bombing of Dresden, Germany. Kurt Vonnegutwas born in 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana to
German parents. As a young man, Vonnegut wrote articles strongly opposing war for his high
school newspaper, and the school newspaper of Cornell University, where he attended college
(Allen 1). World War II broke out when he was just 16 years old, and at the age of 20, Vonnegut
joined the US army. Speaking about his disdain for war, Novels for Students discloses,... Show

In 1952, his very first novel, Player Piano was published. Over the next 17 years, Vonnegut
published 5 more novels, including Slaughterhouse Five in 1969. This was the book that
launched his fame, and a film adaptation of the book soon followed in 1969, which was
successful and only increased his popularity further. He went on to write 9 more novels before
his death in 2007. The anti war story of Slaughterhouse Five centers on an awkward Billy
Pilgrim, a man who travels through time and has had extraordinary experiences on the planet
Tralfamadore with its inhabitants, the Tralfamadorians. Pilgrim, like Vonnegut, fought in World
War II and was still relatively new to the war when he was taken as prisoner by German soldiers.
He too was held in a slaughterhouse underground, which led to his survival of the 1945 Dresden
Firebombing, and was also held behind to gather and burn the remains of the dead. Pilgrim claims
that on his daughter s wedding night, he was first abducted by the Tralfamadorians, the aliens that
inhabited the planet Tralfamadore. These aliens have a fourth dimension; time. The
Tralfamadorians view time as a literal timeline; everything is predetermined, and they can access
any point of time at their will. Pilgrim returns to earth and believes that it is his duty to make
humans aware of this philosophy, and to spread the Tralfamadorians message. By the end of the
book, the reader comes to find that the time shifting and extraterrestrial experiences

How Did Ancient Africa Dbq
Ancient Africa held many treasures like gold and salt that could be used to build a large empire.
A few men did exactly that. African empires were wealthy and great before men from Europe came
onto the scene. Before the arrival of the Europeans, African civilizations from 300 to 1400 CE were
wealthy, flourished in trade, and encouraged things like education, the arts, and security.
Civilizations in Africa like Mali, Ghana, and Kilwa all exhibited great wealth enjoyed by many in
the empire. In document 2, Ghana s gold and salt trade are shown to have made the kingdom
very rich and powerful. The king s court had very luxurious items and this showcased their
wealth, one of the reasons the Europeans came to Africa in the first place. Mansa Musa, the
ruler of Mali, also had riches, and he handed them out while traveling through Cairo to Mecca
(doc 4). Finally, the city state of Kilwa was considered one of the most beautiful places in the
world by Ibn Battuta (doc 8). African cities were very wealthy from the gold and salt mines on
the continent and it was very beneficial to them. Trade was a big deal in Africa, and the location of

Ghana was no exception to this, as they were said to have food for all its citizens, advanced
weapons, and a good government (doc 3). They were more than capable of living good lives and
thriving. The city of Timbuktu in the empire of Mali valued written manuscripts and sold them for
a higher price than that of any other good (doc 5). Mali also viewed security and justice as very
important things to include in a society (doc 6). They were always fair and the citizens and
tourists were never afraid. Finally, bronze was important, and went through a very lengthy process
to make beautiful and amazing figures (doc 7). Aspects that make a society complex were valued

The United States Congress On The Rights Of The Child (...
The United States Senate should ratify the United Nation s human rights treaty, The Convention on
the Rights of the Child (CRC). The CRC is the most widely ratified human rights treaty with over
193 states parties ratifying it (unicef.org). The CRC was adopted by the UN General Assembly on
November 20th, 1989 and promotes the rights of children worldwide (childrightscampaign.org).
The treaty recognizes that children have certain unalienable rights. These rights are to develop
physically, mentally, and socially to their fullest potential (ohchr.org). These rights also include the
ability to express their opinions freely and to participate in decisions affecting their future
(ohchr.org). Ultimately, these rights are to be granted to all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Protecting State Sovereignty The concern of the US government being undermined by a UN
committee should be nonexistent. The United States Supreme Court s decision in 1957 ruled that no
international law could override the country s Constitution (oyez.org). After the case, Reid v Court,
Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black stated The United States is entirely a creature of the
Constitution. Its power and authority have no other source...When the Government reaches out to
punish a citizen who is abroad, the shield which the Bill of Rights and other parts of the
Constitution provide to protect his life and liberty should not be stripped away just because he
happens to be in another land.
This decision results in the CRC not having any overriding power to the rights given and protected
by the Constitution. The United States executive branch also gave its signature of approval and
support of the CRC in 1995 (Bova 174). In sum, the United States government would still be in
complete control of its laws and citizens. Although, states that have ratified the treaty are required
to to report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child every five years, the United States has
been doing so since 2003 when it ratified the two aforementioned explicit protocols of the CRC.

Is Emanuel Syndrome A Congenital Chromosomal Disorder That...
Emanuel Syndrome is a congenital chromosomal disorder that can disrupt the development of
multiple parts of the entire body. Though numbers are growing, in 2012, over 200 causes of
Emanuel Syndrome have been reported in the United States (Zaki, Mohamed, Kamel, El Gerzway
El Ruby, 2012). The numbers of those diagnosed with this disorder are low due to the low
incidence of this population, but also because of how new this disorder is. In 2004, Emanuel
Syndrome officially got its name (Chromosome22 Central, 2016). Before this time, individuals
who had symptoms of this disorder were diagnosed with varying names such as, Cat Eye
Syndrome, 22 Syndrome, or 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome. In 2004, a support parent group for

The information that is available confirms that those diagnosed with Emanuel Syndrome will
exhibit some degree of a global delay (Chromosome 22 Central, 2016). In terms of gross motor
development, 70% of individuals who have Emanuel Syndrome can learn to walk with varying
degrees of support at some point in their life (Carter, et, al. 2009). This support can come in the
form of another person to assist, or an assistive device, such as a walker or cane.
Most commonly, Emanuel Syndrome is characterized by facial abnormalities, hypo or hyper
muscular tension, significant mental delays, and/or, significant developmental delays. General
features can include ear anomalies, preauricular tag or sinus, cleft or high arched palate,
micrognathia, microcephaly, kidney abnormalities, heart defects, and genital abnormalities in males
(Carter, St. Pierre, Zackai, Emanuel Boycott, 2009). Facial trademarks of this syndrome include:
hooded eyelids, deep set eyes, upslanting palpebral fissures, low hanging columella, micrognathia,
and facial asymmetry. Ear pits, heart malformations, and cleft palate, are some of the most common
features of this syndrome (Carter, et, al. 2009). Additionally, myopia, strabismus, hearing
impairment, seizures, failure to thrive, and recurrent infections, particularly otitis media have all
been noted with this population.

Romeo And Juliet Foil Characters
In Shakespeare s critically acclaimed play Romeo and Juliet, the Nurse and Lady Capulet are
foil characters. Shakespeare uses the Nurse and Lady Capulet to portray that the morals of a
person, can affect another person s actions. While Romeo and Juliet are planning their secret
marriage, the Nurse shows her easy going and caring personality by helping Romeo sneak into
Juliet s room, something that is highly forbidden. After the Nurse is finished teasing Juliet, the
Nurse becomes serious again and tells Juliet, Hie you to church; I must another way, to fetch a
ladder, by the which your love must climb a bird s nest soon when it is dark (II.v.71 73). The
Nurse is telling Juliet that while Romeo and Juliet are getting married in the church, she will find a
ladder, with that ladder,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lady Capulet tells Juliet that she wishes that Juliet would be dead. Lady Capulet saying this shows
her strictness to not appreciate her daughter s view on marriage. The Nurse uses her easy going
personality to be laid back with Juliet and push her to elope with Romeo, Juliet carelessly takes
her advice. However, when Juliet tells Lady Capulet, she does not approve of it, showing her
strictness. Shakespeare s progression of the foil characters, the Nurse and Lady Capulet show
that other people s morals can affect another person s actions and confuse their own thoughts.
The Nurse and Lady Capulet both have different views on love and marriage. The two different
views and morals confuse Juliet s mind and makes the tragedy all the more tragic. The Nurse
risked her life to help Juliet elope with Romeo, by doing this, she is showing that she wants Juliet
to follow her heart at all costs. The Nurse contributed to the secret marriage plan, Then hie you
hence you to Friar Laurence s cell; There stays a husband to make you a wife (II.v.67 68). The
Nurse is telling Juliet that she will send Romeo and Juliet to Friar

Explain How To Make A Homemade Water Filter
Blue Highlight = Allie Sensing Shelter and fire comes first. Than create tools and supplies that
will help you get food and water and other materials. Think through things and try to make the
least amount of mistakes. Because when surviving, mistakes can be fatal. We should look up
how to make a homemade water filter. We should also look up the easiest way to get things like
water, food, shelter, and maybe tools. Best we try and make a shelter right away. You can actually
live up to 30 days with only water. But you ll be very hungry. So next step, water. Then after we
have a good shelter, and a good source of water, we can find out how to make a fire, and kill some
fish or animals. We could even go look for non poisonous berries or fruits.... Show more content on

What I would like to do is find books that talk about bad, or good berries, also, maybe types of
birds, or animals. Another thing, when we find things like food, we need to make sure we
research what stuff is deadly to eat, or very good to eat raw. We need to know what things to
cook and not. Blue= Brenden You can only go 3 days without water and like we already said
you can go 30 days with just water. To make saltwater drinkable the only thing you have to is
boil the water and the salt will be left in the pan and you just drink the water. I learned that
mistakes can cost you a lot. There is a lot of things to eat and drink on a island more than salt
water and fish. Never leave a island with out lots of food and water to drink and eat. There is a
lot of things you can eat on island. You can eat crabs, fish, and other sea creature. The next
important thing is that you have to make a fire. A way to start a fire is to get glasses or
mediafire. The wood you need are dead branches from the trees. Another way to make a fire is rub
hard shaft wood and softwood base. Another way is to do the human drill. You can also use flint and

The American Dream
As defined by James Adams in his book The American Epic , the American Dream is the ideal of
this land being the land where life would be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with equal
opportunity for all. A land where people could achieve their goals and be respected regardless of
their fortuitous circumstances of birth or position. This concept is what draws in America s diverse
inhabitants, the idea of this utopia of a place where everyone and anyone can succeed is what
America was supposed to be founded on. Another popular definition of the American Dreamis the
belief that everyone has the chance to be successful and happy, all they have to do is work hard.
Both of these concepts, first popularize early 1900s, has yet to come to be. So the question of
whether the American dream is still alive is invalid, seeing as it never lived. ... Show more content

In American, one doesn t have to be filthy rich to get by, and people in poverty have the chance
to come out of it and thrive. This is the country where the son of a bartender and a maid can have
the same dreams and the same future as those who come from power and privilege. This is an
America that was described in most definitions of the American dream, a piece of this idea that has
been achieved and is continuing to exist today, sadly it is the only part of this concept that has

  • 2. Av Node Analysis The heart has distinguished components that allow the pathway of electrical conduction to travel through the heart in order to effectively pump blood through the body. The electrical impulse initiates in the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is located in the posterior wall of the right atrium, near the superior vena cava. It is also known as being the physiologic pacemaker of the heartand has an intrinsic firing rate of 60 100 impulses/min. From the SA node, the electrical impulse flows directly to the Atrioventricular node (AV node) with the guidance of intercalated discs and gap junctions. The AV node is located in the back section of the interatrial septum near the coronary sinus and tricuspid valve. Here, there is a delay of .1 seconds to allow the atria to contract and the ventricles to fill. In addition, this delay regulates the ventricles if there were an abnormal atrial rhythm. The AV node works as a secondary pacemaker if the SA is irregular, firing at 40 60 pulses /min. After leaving the AV node, the electrical impulse travels to the bundle of His. The bundle of His forms the only myocardial connection between the atria and ventricles. Additionally, the bundle of His divides the bundle branches into left and right and innervates the ventricles through Purkinje fibers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Myocardial cells sustain their electrical gradient among their membrane, with the inside being slightly more negative. The resting potential is regulated by channels and pumps distributed inside and outside of the cell. As the cell depolarizes, the gate of the calcium channel opens, allowing calcium to enter the cell. The calcium flowing into the cell simultaneously results in initiating the action potential. With depolarization, the potassium channels then open, while the calcium channels close. Repolarization occurs when potassium leaves the cells, and then the whole cycle begins ... • 3. The Post-Civil War Era American actor and playwright, Ayad Akhtar reflected, I see the American experience as being defined by the immigrant paradigm of rupture and renewal: rupture with the old world, the old ways, and renewal of the self in a bright but difficult New World. While Akhtar was reflecting on the current society in America, the experience in the Post Civil War era was similar in it s ability to fight the old and make room for the new. To give a connotative definition, the American Experience was the act of fighting and using every opportunity for oneself to survive in a competitive and ever changing market of social, political, and artistic construct. Many artists, authors and other creators influenced this definition with their work by their portrayal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During Reconstruction, the point of it was to integrate former slaves into normal societal life. Unfortunately, because many African Americans were never fully compensated for slavery, much of the black population lived in rural poverty in the South and faced discrimination from Black codes and labor contracts (Recchiuti). Like explained before, this struggle within the black community shaped the American experience. What Homer did was capture the daily lives of Post Civil war African Americans in order to convey how they successfully survived in a place that formerly segregated itself from the union to keep them as slaves. In his watercolours, The Conch Divers (1885) and The Water Fan (1898 99), Winslow understood the importance of using every aspect to emanate the political hardships that the black community still faced. His portrayal of black workers on a ship in The Conch Divers shows how they were still treated like slaves in the way that they all lack shirts and what clothing they had is torn, the work that they are doing is painstaking, and no doubt that Homer had in mind the very minimal compensation the workers were receiving when he used such pale colours to depict the scene. Here Winslow Homer is showing the working struggle of an African American and how they are still surviving with what little they were given. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. International Surrogacy Essay Zhang, Kai Min P7 International Surrogacy (cons) Thesis Statement In today s society, surrogacy is becoming a more and more popular and common issue. For many couples who cannot or unwilling to carry babies by themselves, surrogacy is the first choice to have their own babies and build a family. The legality of surrogacy is different for every country. There are countries that consider the birth mother as the legal mother while there are those that don t. Besides, a lower price of surrogacy in developing countries drives them to find surrogate mother overseas. Thus, international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Was the baby Indian or Japanese? Because of different laws between India and Japan, the problem became very complicated. Their surrogacy contract didn t mention this situation. There are no any existing laws to help to clarify the matter. This case shows that the unperfected contract and laws may make the intended couples into trouble if something unexpectedly happened. There is another case about international surrogacy. According to the article Couple Given Right to Raise Surrogate Thai children. , An Australian couple has been granted the right to raise twins born to a surrogate mother in Thailand even though the commercial surrogacy agreement they entered into is illegal. The couple Mr. Ellison and Ms. Solano comes from Queensland. The twins were artificially conceived using the sperm from the man and eggs from an anonymous donor at a Thai fertility clinic, and were carried and delivered by a Thai woman. The problem is, however, it is illegal to enter into an international commercial surrogacy in Queensland. If prosecuted, the couple would have faced a maximum three year jail sentence. To pay a woman for surrogacy is not illegal in Thailand, but in different states of Australia, the laws of surrogacy are different. Under Queensland s law, it is illegal to pay a woman for surrogacy. Finally, the court judged that Mr. Ellison was the biological father of the twins. This case highlights Australia s complex surrogacy laws and the legal disputes of ... Eddie Marbo was a torres islander who thought that the Australian laws were wrong and who went to fight and try and change them. He was born in 1936 on Mer which is known as Murray Island. Marbo did not just give up on this and he kept on trying to get his land rights and get other rights for indigenous people of Australia. There was a lot of significant things that happened in the Marbo decision. Marbo changed a lot of the rights for the Australian indigenous people. He got the land rights and human rights back for them. It still wasn t easer for Mabo to win his rights though because they wanted to mine his land and make money out of it. In the year 1993 Federal Pavement had passed the Native Title act which had established legal framework for the native claims through out the country. Unfortunately Eddie Marbo was not around to see his victory. He had died of cancer and he was fifty five years old. It was just before the high courts decision. There were two of the five Murray Island plaintiffs were alive by the time when the ruling was handed down. The third anniversary was held at Eddies grave. The thing is he is not just a phenomenal teacher, but I trust he has invented one of the best math courses an educator could teach before students enter the real world. The course he created and designed was meant to prepare high school students to juggle the practical aspects of the real world in their daily after they graduate. Brian created a unique problem solving model that trained students on how to breakdown a decision, identify the resources at their disposal, generate appropriate solutions, and when necessary communicate effectively their conclusions and understandings. Ultimately, this course is about finding out who you are, what your challenges will be, and what your path to success will look like. The motivation for this course he created was an actual a real life experience he ran into; he was a victim of one of the worst things that could happen to just about anyone. Smith, a renowned poet and author, writes a beautiful and thoughtful poem named Don t You Wonder, Sometimes? as a tribute to the iconic musician and actor David Bowie. Her message incorporates the use of time and how it runs quickly and she asks readers through multiple questions, if they could go back in timeand take back previous decisions they made when they were younger, would they? She employs the use of multiple questions to integrate the reader into the poem and aid them in thinking about the questions she asks. She asks questions such as, To be wanted back badly enough? Would you go then,/Even for a few nights, into that other life where you/And that first she loved, blind to the future once, and happy? (Smith 8 10).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nothing will come for him in his sleep/Or charging through his veins. And he ll never grow old, (Smith 16 17). Again, Smith implies that Bowie is immortal and he cannot die. She could also be alluding to how his music and his films will forever live on even after he dies. (She wrote this poem in 2011 5 years before he died.) Smith also incorporates lyrics from Bowie s songs into her poem. These lyrics for readers that have not listened to Bowie s music would be useless and hard to find, but for those that have listened to his music they shine bright and are easily followed and bring those songs to the forefront of the reader s mind. I was the child with most birthday and Christmas presents and have always succeeded in what I wanted. November 18, 2009, the twins, Jazzlin and Jahnyah were born and two weeks later my life changed. The first time I saw the twins, they were small and extremely hard to tell apart. I was a little rough around the edges and was not allowed to hold them, but I made sure every day after school to ask someone to take me to see them again. One day after my mom had left work, her phone rings. My heart raced as I tried to listen and figured out what is going on. I remember thinking, why does she keep saying she can not handle a baby especially two? Finally, after my mom the phone call she explained that she has to take custody of the twins or people will take them away. At only ten years old, I sat with excitement and said, So now I basically have twins sisters? Finally someone to play with! • 13. Essay On The Trojan War During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The Odyssey. The Trojan War was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey. Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles , married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris, who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next. Companies should look at long term goals versus short term goals; companies whose culture is to just make profits at any cost faces these type of situation Chiquita faced often. • 18. Staying Put By Scott Russell Sander Analysis In Scott Russell Sanders s passage, Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World, he states Our Promised Land has always been over the next ridge or at the end of the trail, never under our feet (Sanders 6). He is describing why humans migrate from one place to the next in order to find the Promised Land and how many Americans continue to chase the ideal land (Sanders 6). Sanders passage was a response to Salman Rushdie s views on mass migration and how it is very important for many American. However, Sanders disagrees Rushdie s views mass migration has led to many consequences and counters them with his view. Sanders believes that it is important to be an inhabitants than migrants as, putting down roots allows oneself to take care of the land and have a proper home. As migrating makes oneself lose their culture and respect for the land. In Scott Russell Sanders s, Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World, he utilizes the rhetorical appeal pathos and hyperbole to emphasize his views on mass migration. Sanders incorporates pathos his passage to make his audience oppose mass migration. Sanders states Colonists brought slavery with them to North America, along with smallpox and Norway rats. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s was caused not by drought but by the transfer onto the Great Plainsof farming methods that were suitable to wetter regions (Sanders 55). Growing up Lindsay was considered a good girl and now she wants to join a different social order, the burnouts. She struggles to balance the old good girl while trying to form a new friendships with the burnouts. At first the transfer from being a mathlete and friendswith Millie to being friends with kids who are known for skipping class is a little shaky. In a lot of ways I can compare to Lindsay especially getting a new friend group. All my life my neighbor and I have been best friends; around freshman year he started to hang more and more with this new group of kids, our school s infamous burnouts. I found myself at a crossroad. I could either hang out with this new group of kids or the friend group I grew up with since elementary school. I ended up with the burnouts just as Lindsay made the transition from so called nerds to the rebel students. Just like my situation, first the transition was awkward and I struggled to balance both sides but also had to also maintain my grades. Having friends who are constantly wanting to skip and still being able to keep the A in Biology was a hard tribulation. There are two types of reproduction, asexual and sexual. From the family Otariidea, Sea lions use sexual reproduction meaning they require a mate to produce offspring. There are 6 living sea lion species in the world. The Japanese Sea Lion, Zalophus japonicas, became extinct within the 1970 s. The Steller sea lion has the largest sea lion population and lives in the Northern Pacific. The California sea lion is the best known and seen in zoos and the circus. An average weight of a sea lion is 400 pounds and having a length of 6 feet long. Sea lions have a variety of behavioral techniques when mating. Male and female sea lions have specific behaviors during the mating season such as defensive tactics and vocalization. There are different types of mating systems such as monogamy and polygamy. The sea lion species uses a polygynous mating system. A polygynous mating system is defined as one male mate with multiple females within a breeding season (Flatz, R. et al,2012). The females and males of Sea Lions have different behaviors when reproducing. The females can only produce a limited number of offspring therefore they maximize their success by producing high quality offspring. Washington s writings on historically black colleges. While my paper will focus on the ways in which the historically black college continues to adhere to the model provided by Washington, it will also explore the ways in which it diverges from the early Hampton Tuskegee ideal. According to James D. Anderson in The Education of Blacks in the South, both contemporary observers and later historians have portrayed the white south as taking a monolithic view of black education. However, many secondary schools in the south did not emphasize the kind of industrial education advocated by Washington. In the same manner,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first freedmen s schools were run by the freedmen and women themselves. Booker T. Washington s account of his own perseverence in securing his education is poignantly told in Up From Slavery. Yet with Washington s influence, a shift began from educating students in a liberal arts tradition to an industrial training mode. Unfortunately, by the turn of the century, with the help of the benefactor Samuel Chapman Armstrong, the Hampton Tuskegee Idea had come to represent the ideological antithesis of the educational and social movement begun by ex slaves (33). In order for freed slaves to fully participate in a democracy, a classical liberal curriculum was adopted in post Civil War black, elementary, normal and collegiate schools. As James D. Anderson aptly points out, Black leaders did not view their adoption of the classical liberal curriculum or its philosophical foundations as mere imitation of white schooling. Indeed, they knew many whites who had no education at all. Rather, they saw this curriculum as providing access to the best intellectual traditions of their era and the best means to understanding their own historical development and sociological uniqueness. (Anderson 29) In fact, black educators like Richard Wright found support in the classics for racial equality; the study of the classics was a means to understanding the ... Recollection Of Meno, Anytus And The Slave Boy Meno: My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates demonstration of recollection with the slave boy and the contrast between Meno, Anytus and the Slave boy. Socrates demonstrates what he refers to as recollection by asking Meno s slave leading questions until he is able to demonstrate to the boy that the length of the side of a square whose area has been doubled in size is not double of the previous length as the boy previously thought. This method, called the Socratic method, has been employed by different teachers of mine in the past while instructing me. It was interesting for me to find out about its origin. While reading the dialogue, it became clear that Meno did not have a teachable spirit (or he was unwilling to learn). The contrast if his, Anytus and the slave boy s attitudes showed a clear difference between someone who is willing to be instructed and someone who is not. Anytus seemed to be the most unwilling of the two because he refused to investigate before jumping to conclusions (as he did during the discussion about the Sophists). Phaedrus: My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates idea of the soul and his story of Theuth and Thamus. Socrates described the soul as the innate power of a winged team of horses and a charioteer . In a man s soul, one of the horses is of good stock and the other is not. But if he had visited ten years ago, it might have been closer to 50 cents. As India has become more productive over the last few decades, wages in the tradable sector (IT) rose, pulling up wages in the nontradable sector (waiters), and the currency has appreciated. There is a still a major price difference D.C. and Delhi. One dollar will pay for much less stuff in America than its equivalent in rupees will buy in India. But as Indian exports continue to grow, one should expect Shyam s lunch to get more and more expensive. There is much more to price levels than the Nanny Effect. Much, much, much more. Restrictive urban policy raises the price of rent in similarly productive cities. Energy policies and levies raise or lower the price of gas. Tariffs raise the price of imports. On a nation by nation basis, taxes restrain demand and subsidies increase supply on an idiosyncratic basis. But perhaps the easiest way to mess with Balassa and Samuelson is for a government to manipulate foreign exchange rates. China, for example, is famous for pegging its currency to the U.S. dollar to make its exports more competitive. That gives you a lot of space to mess around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). • 40. Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s Lord Of The Flies Writing has always been the primary vehicle for social commentary and reform. From Upton Sinclair s damning exposure of the meat processing industry in The Jungle, to George Orwell s grave warning concerning communism in Animal Farm, to William Goulding s disturbing look at human nature post World War 2 in Lord of the Flies, countless authors have attempted to expose flaws in their society through writing. Rome, as a growing republic, and later as a sprawling empire, was consistently rife with corruption, abuse of power, and the degradation of morals. Writers like Sallust, Juvenal, and Tacitussaw these social flaws as opportunities, whether to drive social or political change, or to increase their influence, or just to make a statement to the government and the Roman people. However, these three writers each took a different approach to his commentary. Through comedic hyperbole and satire, Juvenal looked to expose the moral degradation of Roman women in Satire VI. On the other hand, Sallust focused on political corruption in the late Roman Republic, using the history of the Jugurthine War as a lens by which to observe the corruption he despised. With yet another approach, Tacitus aimed to criticize despots like Emperor Domitian and to denounce imperialism through the biography of Agricola, the Roman general who conquered Britain. Reflection of My Environmental Studies Trip to Hawaii Essay Over the years of my high school life I have had to cope and deal with various amounts of difficult obstacles that have, to some extent, held me back from reaching my goals. Over this last summer I struggled, but made it through the toughest thing I ve ever experienced. I went on an environmental studies tripto the Hawaiian Islandsthat while was the most memorable, influential experience I ve ever been able to accomplish, was still extremely challenging and completely different from my laid back lifestyle. Jumping off of a rocky forty foot cliff is one of those risky accomplishments I can say I overcame during my months venture. Towards the end of the trip I even went on a 17 mile kayak trip around the beautiful Napali Coast. Events like this gave me a newfound confidence in myself and my abilities to go into frightening and unfamiliar situations with an optimistic outlook on how I will get through them. Not only did this trip give me amazing insight on the unique characteristics of Hawaii, but it also taught me the skills needed to accommodate and thrive in a new environment. Time management was one of these necessities required for maintaining a balance between work and play. Before I went on this trip I was unaware of what it would be like to have to deal with the daily responsibilities that aren t usually present in a typical teenage life. Living with complete strangers and no longer having a parent s support can be a tremendous change in a person s life. Having a sneak peek into that was exceptionally helpful in making me aware of the future to come. These discoveries will be useful upon my move to college where I will be living independently for the first time. I was able to experience an unbelievable trip to somewhere incredible and completely different from the rest of the world. Most people do not get a chance to partake in something like this in their lifetime, and I feel very lucky to have been involved in it, and extremely thankful for the change that it ... Slaughterhouse Five, a novel written by Kurt Vonnegut, tells the story of the devastating effects of war on a man, Billy Pilgrim, who joins the army fight in World War II. The semi autobiographical novel sheds light on one of history s most tragic, yet rarely spoken of events, the 1945 fire bombing of Dresden, Germany. Kurt Vonnegutwas born in 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana to German parents. As a young man, Vonnegut wrote articles strongly opposing war for his high school newspaper, and the school newspaper of Cornell University, where he attended college (Allen 1). This was the book that launched his fame, and a film adaptation of the book soon followed in 1969, which was successful and only increased his popularity further. He went on to write 9 more novels before his death in 2007. The anti war story of Slaughterhouse Five centers on an awkward Billy Pilgrim, a man who travels through time and has had extraordinary experiences on the planet Tralfamadore with its inhabitants, the Tralfamadorians. Pilgrim, like Vonnegut, fought in World War II and was still relatively new to the war when he was taken as prisoner by German soldiers. He too was held in a slaughterhouse underground, which led to his survival of the 1945 Dresden Firebombing, and was also held behind to gather and burn the remains of the dead. Pilgrim claims that on his daughter s wedding night, he was first abducted by the Tralfamadorians, the aliens that inhabited the planet Tralfamadore. These aliens have a fourth dimension; time. The Tralfamadorians view time as a literal timeline; everything is predetermined, and they can access any point of time at their will. Pilgrim returns to earth and believes that it is his duty to make humans aware of this philosophy, and to spread the Tralfamadorians message.
