Emily Grierson And Rodrick Usher
According to statistics, 18.5% of Americans suffer from some sort of mental illness. (CITE)
Mental disorders and illnesses are not talked about enough in our society. People are often
looked down on for having a disorder or illness. In both stories, A Rose for Emily , and The Fall
of the House of Usher, Emily Grierson and Rodrick Usher suffer from some sort of mental illness.
Both Emily Grierson and Rodrick Usher suffer with Sensory Processing Disorder, Obsessive
Compulsion Disorder, and Schizoid Personality Disorder. The first mental disorder that both Emily
Grierson and Rodrick Usher exhibit signs of is Sensory Processing Disorder. According to The

Anne Sexton Old
In the poem Old by Anne Sexton, the narrator is presumably in a hospital setting as she says she
is afraid of needles and tired of rubber sheets , tubes , and faces that I don t know . This choice
of setting is most likely a result of Sexton s own stays in mental hospitals because of her
depression and addiction troubles. After the setting is established the narrator says that she thinks
death is starting and that is starts like a dream . Dreams are seen as a positive thing where
people experience their inner most desires. By equating death to a dream, Sexton is saying that
she sees death as a place of peace and solace from unhappiness. The suicidal tendencies expressed
in the poem as well as the narrative voice remind me of conversations

The Manufacture of the Perfect Woman
The Manufacture of the Perfect Woman In today s society, the media remains a pronounced source
of information throughout the westernized world and beyond. Men, women, and children alike
interact with some sort of media in their day to day lives. This wealth of information can be
significantly useful and provides an essential way of communicating important intelligence.
However, it also acts as a means of entertainment. Because of its ever present existence, this aspect
of modern culture tends to influence and impact those who interact with it regularly. Although often
a beneficial source of communication, media can have a negative impact on those that consume it,
especially female viewers. Fictional media, more specifically, impacts an... Show more content on

Early interpreting of these images predicts the start of a never ending struggle with identity and self
image. Unsurprisingly, girls adopt unhealthy self images especially with the prevalence of mass
media messages in early developmental stages: Between the ages of eight and eighteen spend
more than 10 hours a day using media, including more than four hours with television content
delivered in a variety of formats and almost 1.5 hours on the Internet (McGladrey). This early
exposure leads to later, lasting issues. Most shocking, media pressure can lead to premature
feelings of despair before adolescence: The early girls coping mechanisms for dealing with
these body related pressures are diverse but almost universally self destructive. Rates of
depression markedly increase during adolescence, with twice as many girls displaying depressive
symptoms as boys by the age of fifteen (Hankin et al. as cited in McGladrey). When a female feels
as if her appearance does not match that of the media norm, she struggles with her image. A factor
most do not take into account, the accurateness of traits commonly associated with beauty, can also
be the downfall of overly accepting women. Especially

Biological Oxygen Demand ( Bod )
Other Parameters Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) is also monitored to quantify the amount
of oxygen needed to break down organic material in a water sample. BOD was generally higher
and more variable at different locations around Abu Dhabi City and in Confined Areas, although
mean BOD at all locations was generally lower from 2013 2015 than in previous years for which
data are available. Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are solids in water that can be trapped by a
filter and may include a wide variety of material, such as silt, decaying plant matter, industrial
wastes, and sewage. In general, TSS has been higher in the past 5 years in Confined Areas than
at the other stations. TSS has declined since 2011 at all locations except in MPAs, where the
annual mean TSS was highest in 2013. Mean TSS in 2015 was highest in May in Confined
Areas. Organic pollutants are chemical compounds that contain carbon and have a negative effect
on one or more components of the environment. From 2011 2015, EAD monitored marine waters
for two organic pollutants: total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls
(PCBs). TPHs is a term used to describe a mixture of several hundreds of chemical compounds
that are derived from crude oil. Measurable background concentrations of TPH can be a result of
excess oil contamination or in some cases the result of a natural petroleum seep. High levels of
some petroleum hydrocarbons can cause adverse health effects, including benzene, which is a

Lady Macbeth Analysis
Some actresses see Lady Macbeth as sympathetic to her husband like Sarah Siddons and Kate
Fleetwood, feeling sympathy for Macbeth is a decision both actresses made for Lady Macbeth
to be relatable and more human, Siddons who portrayed her in the mid 1800s said that she
approached her as, keen to present the character in as attractive a light as possible, so sexually
appealing fair feminine, nay perhaps even fragile (Sarah Siddons qtd. In Robert Miola, 94).
Siddons saw the character of Macbethas honorable and to have him as a husband only proves
Lady Macbeth is very taken with him, having put all of her efforts into seducing such an
honorable man. Kate Fleetwood s own interpretation of Lady Macbeth was very domestic, the
societal hostess. In an interview in 2011, Fleetwood who was directed by her husband Rupert
Goold in the 2007 version of the play said that, When Rupert suggested to me about the domestic
side of her, that started to ring really big bells for me (Fleetwood qtd. In Miola, 135). The
argument about how Lady Macbeth truly loves her husband and tried to summons the spirits is
because she knows that Macbeth is very ambitious, and she needs all the strength she can have to
convince him to act out the three witches prophecy. This arguement and its solution is very valid,
Lady Macbeth only acting out for the benefit of her husband, she wants her husband to be the king
of Scotland but it does not mean she wants to queen herself. In an interview, Fleetwood also

Example Of Nonverbal Communication
COM1211N1 NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION ASSIGNMENT
Analysis of Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication can range from gestures, facial
expressions, and other behaviors that are attempting to send a message to another person without
using words to communicate. With several forms of nonverbal communication, there is an attached
message with the behaviors, though they can have different meanings to different people. The
message being sent along with the nonverbal behaviors can also be directly noticed and understood
by the other person in the conversation, or can be completely misunderstood or unnoticed. While
examining the characteristics and behaviors of nonverbal gestures, we can unravel the message
being relayed within communication. I had identified two couples each on a date at Panino s
restaurant, finding individual characteristics of nonverbal communication, as one couple had been in
a disagreement and one couple had a more romantic evening together. Though during the
observation of each interaction, I had noticed contradistinction between the way the two couples
communicated using non verbally, movement and gesture, and facial display messages.
Signs of Nonverbal Communication: Expressing Emotions The couple who had been in a
disagreement at the restaurant had many interactions of verbal and nonverbal conversations. The
verbal messages being sent from the lady to the gentlemen were that he had sent another lady
flirtatious messages on Facebook, which

Causes And Symptoms Of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
I.Background
CW, an 18 year old Caucasian male, presented at a rural hospital located in northwest New
Mexico. CW complained of flu like symptoms including a headache, chills, vomiting, diarrhea,
fever, and myalgia for the previous two to four days (Staff, 2014). He stated within the past 24 to
48 hours he had developed a productive cough, a tightening in his chest, and shortness of breath.
When questioned what, his activities were prior to the onset of symptoms he stated he was a
student and played tight end for the football team. When probed further he stated one to two
weeks prior he cleaned some sheds on his parent s farm. While waiting on lab results from the
bloodwork, CW went into respiratory distress. He was intubated and sent to the ICU for supportive
care.
II.Physical and Laboratory Findings
On examination, the physician listened to CW s lungs, noting there was diminished lung sounds
with crackling. Chest X ray showed acute pneumonia in both lungs. The physician also noted
swelling in CW s chest and neck area (Cunha, 2015). Blood was drawn with a heparinized
vacutainer tube and a serum separator vacutainer for serology, and reverse transcriptase polymerase
chain raction testing. While CW was in intubation there were lung tissue samples obtained for the
immunohistochemistry. The serum lab results showed, on a smear, there was evidence of immature
leukocytes (Cunha, 2015), as well as an increase in virus specific IgM. An acute and

The following report is a reflective a case study of Jane Goodall, the influential leader who I admire.
I have analyze the various dimensions of the Jane Goodall s strengths and limitations through data
collections from reputable sources, evaluating her personal traits, behavioral styles, situational
responsiveness, communication skills ,and other dimensions of leadership. I have also evaluated my
own strengths and limitations of these same dimensions, compiling a personal leadership profile
that summarizes what I admired about Jane Goodall and how I compare my own leadership

The Five Factor model uses the following traits: neuroticism, extraversion, and agreeableness,
openness and conscientiousness to rate someone s traits on a scale of effectiveness as a leader.
Each trait is explained below:
The tendency to be emotionally reactive, anxious, susceptible to stress, hostile, and insecure would
describe the traits of a person with neuroticism or neurotic tendencies, neuroticism is rated low on
effectiveness according to the Factor Five Model. Goodall s attempts to gain access to chimpanzee s
habit required hours of quiet reflection and meditation, she sat for weeks before the first chimp
approached her. This kind of diligence and perseverance is not expected from a person with
neurotic tendency. Nor do I see neurotic qualities in myself.
Extraversion, or the tendency to be energetic, assertive, and sociable is rated as a highly effective
trait for leaders within the Factor Five model. Goodall has demonstrated both introverted and
extraverted traits during her life s works, her year of study in Africa with the chimps required
methodical thinking and a great deal of solitude behaviors often exhibited in introverted
approaches, however her years following the two decades in Africa, where spent educating and
motivating people, requiring more extraverted tendencies. I feel Goodall possesses both qualities of
introverts and extroverts. I have always been a more extraverted person with high

Introduction
17 September 1944, Allied forces looking for a means to win the war by the end of the year,

find a way to break through the Siegfried Line. The Siegfried Line was the western defensive line

of trying to break through the line, they decided to move north through Holland.

Eisenhower to present his plan. Although this plan met resistance among several other Allied
commanders, Eisenhower approved the mission. The first planning meeting took place that same
evening for Operation Market.
Planning/Preparation
Due to the shortened timeline, the Allies had to act fast if they were going to capitalize on the
momentum gained thus far. From conception to initiation, planning time for Operation Market
Garden was one week. Compared to the months spent planning the airborne invasion of Normandy,
Operation Market Garden s short planning timeline raised doubt and concern among all
participants. Most of which, were concerns over the sheer size of the operation and the fact that it
was created with such a short planning cycle. Another major concern was due to a lack of night
illumination, the airborne drop would be made during the day deep behind enemy lines. As well as,
overall mission success would depend greatly on favorable weather. An uncontrollable factor with a
immense impact on the mission.
Deployment
This operation consisted of two separate missions. Operation Market, the airborne assault targeted
key bridges and terrain in the vicinity of four cities. The 101st would be responsible for securing
approximately fifteen miles of the corridor, including the city of Eindhoven and bridges at Zon, St.
Oedenrode, and Veghel. The 82d Airborne Division was to drop in the middle to

Why Fingerprint Analysis Is Used For The Sake Of Forensic...
Introduction
Friction ridge analysis, or fingerprint analysis has been used for the sake of forensic analysis for
over 100 years, and has perpetually been considered the most reliable technique of analysis.
However, in recent years, its reliability has begun to crumble due to certain standards set in the
United States of America. In this essay, fingerprintanalysis will be briefly described, along with
the framework of ACE V in which analysts work from looking primarily at its weaknesses and
criticisms. The Daubert standard will be outlined and a how a primary assumption of fingerprint
analysis violates a number of these standards. Also, to further strengthen the case as to why

Every single ridge has a row of sweat pores. When sweat seeps out of these pores, it runs over the
ridges. Thus, when a finger, palm, or foot touches a surface, an impression is made which in
technical terms is known as a latent print. However, when a print is collected from a police
station directly from the source, this is known as an exemplar print (Haber and Haber, 2008;
Creswell, 2015). The science of fingerprint analysis rests on three, recently, controversial
assumptions: Firstly, the ridge patterns never change during the life of a person; secondly, no two
individuals will have the same ridge patterns; lastly, the transferability of an impression of that
uniqueness to another surface. (Gianelli, 2006). This allowed for fingerprint analysts to form a
procedure which other experts around the world are invited to use, known as ACE V.
ACE V
ACE V which is an acronym which stands for Analysis in which analysts categorise certain features
of the print. Comparison where the latent print is compared to the known print of a suspect.
Evaluation is the stage in which the examiner is expected to make an inference as to whether the
latent print matches the print of the suspect or not. Finally, the process of Verification whereby, the
analyst sends their data to another expert to confirm their inference (Lawless, 2009). While this
loose methodology has been used seemingly successfully over the years, levels of

The Energy Efficiency Of Fossil Fuels Essay
INTRODUCTION Every day we are paying more for energy than we should due to poor
insulation, inefficient lights, appliances, and heating and cooling equipment money we could

Christians On The Fringe Of Society
People that are on the fringe of society means that they are not apart of the popular group within
society and they are not always accepted for who they are. People such as the homeless, poor,
women and the LGBTQ+ community are all on the fringe of society. They are marginalised and
they always have to prove themselves to other people.
After Christians have received the Eucharist they become apart of God s family and must obey and
follow his teachings. They are meant to assist those people on the fringe of society by
encouraging other people to accept who they are. Christians can reach out to these people by
donating to the poor, being apart of community groups and accepting everyone into their life. In the

Death Of A Salesman Conflict Analysis
Conflict is a key element in all works of literature. In Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman, all
characters in the book confront conflict at one point in time or another. However, Willy Loman the
main character in the play, is confronted with a lot of conflicts throughout the entirety of the play.
Perhaps the biggest one is between his son Biff and each of their interpretation of the American
Dream.
Biff and Willy have an on going father son conflict throughout the play on what it means to be
successful. When Biff returns home from the Midwest, Willy sees it as a failure. Willy has
spent all of Biff s life trying to get him to become a successful salesman and be like him.
However, Willy and Biff have different interpretations on what it means to be successful and live
the American Dream. Biff wants to work outdoors with his hands because he thinks that is the
greatest thing a man can do. This contrast on the American Dream and how one becomes
successful, builds up throughout the play up until their last conflict in act 2. Willy is persistently
asking Biff why he doesn t become a salesman, and Biff says; Will you take that phony Dream
and burn it before something happens. (Page 133) Willy lives in an illusion where he thinks he is
on the brink of success, but biff is able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who Willy had hoped Biff would become. He is not a salesman nor someone that his father
deems a successful person. This constantly conflicts with Willy s ideals because he always wanted
Biff to make something of himself. In Willy s eyes, Biff is nothing more than an ordinary man
who has no real dreams or more specifically, he doesn t have an American

I Want To Pursue My Master s Degree At Robert Wood Johnson...
I recall a warm summer afternoon when I had just arrived home from college to find the house
wide open and eerily dormant. As I entered, my eyes suddenly caught hold of a bright yellow
note on the counter written by my father. Barkha, call my cell phone. My mother, who had gone
to do laundry at a Laundromat, was suddenly assaulted by a stranger wearing a mask and
wielding a knife. As she grabbed onto the knife, her hands chafed against the sharp edges. I
recollect standing anxiously in a side room of the ER when a young physicianopened the door, and
in a clear, deliberate, yet empathetic manner, informed us that my mother s skin and the nerves of
her hand had been torn and damaged. A lacework of I.V. lines and an oxygen mask on her face was
the last thing I could ever imagine. I visually examined in astonishment the young physician s
serenity and dedication.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is Sears Thesis For The Battle Of Antietam
The Confederate invasion of the North in September of 1862 was an attempt by Robert E. Lee to
swing the war in favor of the South. The main reason for the Confederate invasion was that the
British were on the verge of recognizing the Confederacy if they could show it could hold its own,
and Lee was anxious to provide a cornerstone for the Confederacy to build upon. The Battle of
Antietamwas the bloodiest day in American history and was a major blow to the Army of Northern
Virginiaand the morale of the south. This is the tableau against which our story unfolds.
Stephen W. (Ward) Sears was born July 27th, 1932 in Ohio. He is a pre eminent American
historian specializing in all facets of the Civil War. He graduated from Oberlin College in... Show

Sears uses language that most all of us can understand, and clearly it is a very well researched
work. He supports his claims in the book with a copious amount of facts and yet still keeps the
course of the book moving forward. He draws on a variety of sources including diaries and letters
of the participants to produce, arguably, his definitive work. Sears thesis is actually two fold; one
that McClellan missed countless opportunities to defeat Lee and two that McClellan was an
incompetent commander who missed several instances to take initiative and win the battle
decisively. The young Napoleon, as McClellan was known, often waited an inordinate amount of
time before making a movement with his troops. For me, reading the details (with heavy emphasis
to the Union story) was captivating. No recon, no communication, egotistical leadership, timidity,
and procrastination all combined and helped the Union snatch defeat (or, at the very least, a draw)
from the jaws of victory. This battle, like others before and after it, could have really shortened the
Civil War.
On the other hand, Sears holds Lee in high esteem. Though taking unnecessary risks at times, he
manages to skillfully avoid being crushed at the hands of a numerically superior opponent.
According to Sears, Antietam proved a tactical victory for the Army of Northern Virginia, It had
beaten back a foe much superior in manpower and ordinance

Portnoy s Complaint by Philip Roth tells the story of a perverse mama s boy Jewish bachelor, who
confesses to his psychoanalyst all of his complaints and struggles. Topics mentioned in the book
include the experiences of assimilated American Jews, the relationship between American Jews and
Jews of Israel, and the characteristics of being part of a Jewish family. Portnoy s Complaint fits
right in within Jewish comedy traditions, especially within the time period of its debut. Roth s
novel reads like a classic Stand up routine. As Portnoy himself calls it The Alexander Portnoy
Show! The character of Alexander Portnoy personifies the relevant humor found in Jewish
tradition. The character of Alexander Portnoy represents the classic Jewish stigma of the
Schlemiel. According to Sanford Pinsker in his book, The Schlemiel as Metaphor, the schlemiel
embodied the negative qualities of weaknesses that had to be ridiculed in order to be overcome
within Jewish life. Pinsker describes the Schlemiel as one whom looks upon their disabilities as
peripheral sufferings, sustained through no fault of their own, and is seen as a model of
perseverance. An example of Portnoy as a schlemiel is when he talked about his favorite activity,
masturbation. Portnoy violates all modesty by speaking in detail about his masturbation and
mentioning all the places he has left his semen. The greatest memory that Portnoy shared that
emphasizes his schlemiel like persona was the time when he recited

The Gospel Of The Apostles Of Jesus
From the time when Jesus ascended into heaven to the present day, Jesus sovereignly works
through His children to continue to spread the gospel. For a time, the apostles of Jesus did not
have either Jesus with them or His Spirit. During this time, though, the eleven apostles continued to
seek God even as they chose a new apostleto take the place of Judas Iscariot. The apostles of Jesus
spent this time waiting but not waiting and doing nothing. They prayed and worshiped God
together. During one of the times of worship and prayer, the Spirit of God descended upon each
one of them. Empowered by the Spirit, they went out preaching and telling people about Jesus in
all different languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. As they were preaching, Peter stood up
and addressed the gathering crowd and began to preach about Jesus and the crowd s need for
Him. As Peter preached, God pricked many in their hearts and they were convicted of their sins.
After Peter s sermon, many were baptized. During the time after this, the apostles continued to
make new disciples of Jesus through the power of the Spirit. The Spirit was working mightily
through the apostles. Just like before, the apostles and the disciples gathered together to worship
and to pray to God. During these gatherings, they partook of the Lord s Supper. They

Corporate Social Responsibility On Business And Consumerism
Steve Pollak says that responsible business refers to the practice of conducting business with
consideration for ethical, environmental and community goals in addition to being a good
employer and attempting to make a profit (Pollak, 2010). This essay will be discussing what is
meant by the term Responsible business and what it encompasses. Looking into drivers that affect
business and consumerism, they will be explained through looking at how it has developed over
time and looking at where it is now in relation to business. Considering the different acts and
legislation that the government has put in place, further discussion will continue into how
consumerism and government affect business. Estimations about the future of business and
consumerism will be discussed in detail. For this essay a broad range of literature and websites
have been used to gain relevant facts and information about this topic.
Responsible Business is known to cover a range of issues such as Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR), Sustainability, and Corporate Citizenship. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is
defined as the obligations of business to pursue those policies, to make those decisions or to
follow those lines of action which are desirable in terms of the objectives and values of our society
(Bowen, 1953), as quoted by (Smith, 2011). Bowen explains that CSR means businesses taking
action towards doing things society wants and needs and accounting for the needs of the people.

Immigration And Mexican Immigration
INTRODUCTION Due to their proximity, the United States and Mexico have a particularly unique
relationship. Relations between the two nations often tend to be problematic due to controversial
the issues they associate with, such as immigration and undocumented immigration into the U.S.
because of the uncertainty of its overall effects on the nation. However, the push and pull factors
that attribute to the desire of migrating to the U.S. are often too intense to resist, and thus Mexican
immigrants are the most prominent demographic to migrate the U.S., making up half of the
estimated 11.4 million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. are Latino or of Mexican
origin (Siemons, 2016). Due to the circumstances in which migrants are influenced to leave their
country of origin, it is imperative to understand the complexity of the process of migration and
how it can be a life altering experience, and can greatly affect the psyche of an individual.
Previous research has shown that migrant youth are often driven by the higher wages in the U.S.,
which gives them the security and opportunity to build a better life (Tucker, et al., 2012).
However, there is not much information available as to how these individuals adapt to their new
surroundings. Not only is a person choosing to leave all that they know in order to seek a better
life, they must also adapt to life in a completely different social structure and cultural practices. For
instance, recent studies have focused on the

Advantages Of Oral Chemotherapy
Traditionally, the delivery of most cancer chemotherapies has made use of the intravenous route,
except for a limited number of medications, which were administered orally. However, in recent
years, advances in medical and medicinal biotechnology have produced a surge in the number of
targeted oral chemotherapymedications [1, 2, 3]; these are believed to be safer and less costly.
Oral chemotherapy is also more convenient for patients, families and caregivers because patients
can self administer their medications in the comfort of their own homes with little or no supervision
by relatives or healthcare professionals. Some patients also maintain that self administration gives
them a sense of control over their therapy. [3, 4, 5, 6]
Studies show that patients with metastatic colorectal cancer clearly prefer oral to intravenous therapy
[7, 8], primarily due to convenience, toxicity considerations [7], problems with intravenous lines,
and a better environment for administration. [5] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

paramount for the achievement of the intended therapeutic outcomes. Conversely, non adherence

The First Triumvirate
The First Triumvirate The first triumvirate was and alliance between three prominent politicians,
Crassus, Pompey and Julius Caesar. The Roman historian Livy described the First Triumvirate as
a conspiracy against the state by its three leading citizens . The agreement was unofficial and
private. It was formed in the summer of 60 59 B.C. The first triumvirate however is a bit
misleading in name. Not only was it never called that by the contemporary Romans, but it was a
far more inclusive factio (faction) than the term triumvirate implies. How and why the first

apart. Caesar offered Pompey another wife, his grandniece Octavis. Pompey refused, instead

Caesar s greatest enemies in 52 B.C. This emphasized Pompey s drift away from Caesar towards
the optimates. The Death of Crassus Crassus got Syria for his proconsular service in 54 B.C.
Desperate for military glory He even left his term as consul to undertake a military campaign
against the Parthians. His ambiation outran his ability. After early success his army was
completley destroyed at Carrhae by Parthian archers in 53 B.C. during which Crassus was
murdered. This left just Pompey and Caesar to rule Rome, and Carssus death created a rivalry
between the two that could not be broken. The Rivalry between Crassus and Pompey Caesar s
successes in Gaul, along with his growing power and wealth, drove Pompey. While Caesar was
fighting in Gaul, Pompey proceeded with a legislative agenda for Rome, which revealed that he
was now covertly allied with Caesar s enemies. Pompey also made it clear that Caesar would not
be permitted to stand for Consul unless he turned over control of his armies. This would, of course,
leave Caesar defenseless before his enemies. Pompey was elected consul without colleague in 52.

Impact Of Human Geography
The Impact Of Human Geography
Does physical or human geography have more of an impact on lives? The question has been
asked by many geographers and there are many strong examples for both sides. Human geography
plays a greater role in human development by changing the way people act by being more obedient
and having freedom and having a cultures that are unique , while physical geography is the outside
environment. The outside environment is not as important since humans are sheltered in homes.
People s culture make people s lifestyle different and unique. Cultural convergence is when one
culture comes in contact with another. This makes people have more diverse and and modern
cultures. Cultural convergence helps the spread of culture, like sports, which has led to the
development of the Olympics. The opposite of cultural convergence is cultural divergence, which is
the restriction of a culture coming in contact to other cultures and other influences. Because of
cultural divergence, there are still pure cultures, like in Africa. These cultures had to make

Essay on Network Security
Network Security
1. What is network security?
Network security has changed significantly over the past years. There is more and more data to
monitor and analyze in order to detect the activity of your data and systems. Securing a network has
many variables. Password authentication, network access, patches, anti virus protection, intrusion
detection, firewall and network monitoring tools are just a few of the things you can do to protect
yourself.
Threats to your network is becoming more complex and it is requiring lots of money, time and

Who are these wrong hands? The familiar term is hacker which Webster s dictionary describes as
3: an expert at programming and solving problems with a computer 4: a person who illegally
gains access to and sometimes tampers with information in a computer system . One of the main
reasons for the high level of network security is because of the bad part of the computer hacking

2. How to protect yourself? Protecting yourself is only effective if you know what you are

Stigma Of Social Welfare System
The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of
government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social
welfare they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other
programs such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and
describe the social welfareprograms, as well as show how widespread social welfare is.
Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people
s needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this
definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two
systems within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system
(1974). The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally
doesn t include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there
are different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective
and universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the
residual approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is
set up as a safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach
acknowledges the need for social services

Poverty In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
The 1950 s economy and political laws constructs the African Americans lifestyle of poverty. The
Industrial Revolution proposes an opportunity for a better life and persuades blacks to move
North in clusters creating black communities. The injustice amongst blacks led to the mashing
of black communities which they call the projects. After a while whites seized the chance to
form their own community in the suburbs and collect most of the jobs in the city. Blacks suffer
because of this movement and are becoming even more poor and difficult to maintain a regular
life. Some blacks sought refuge by saving up all their money and making plans to move to the
suburbs. Eventually their ideas of moving to the suburbs becomes a conflict for whites who
disagrees with them. Many authors express their experience of living in the city during the 1950
s and the limitations that are present. Author Lorraine Hansberry illustrated the lifestyle of blacks
during these hard times by writing A Raisin in the Sun. Lorraine Hansberry is born May 19, 1930

The Pet Food Industry
Over the period within which the pet food poisoning struck the pet owners limited communication
came from the Menu Pet Food Company. The silence of the company was likely as a result of
uncertainty of the firm about the presence of toxic components on the pet food products. The
silence was also elicited by the need of the company to lean on the shadows of the several other pet

were mostly directives on the types of products that were to be avoided by the customers. The

who all live pretty tough lives, from self desert to feel free in mind? It s believed that her optimism
and perseverance, using proper strategies to grasp the mental change and devoting all her energy to
the children, which many other teachers can learn from, make her success.
Her optimism and perseverance change the relationship with students from discriminate to mutual
respect.
As a new teacher, Erin Gruwell learned the students situation from the office and said
optimistically: I may not a good teacher, but I ll be a good student. But the first day Erin Gruwell
enters classroom with coltish enthusiasm, the students turn blind eyes to her. Part of the reason is
the racism. Ms. G is white which represents privilege that treat badly to them. Meanwhile, education
means nothing to them. They re force to study. After then she witness the terrible behavior students
did, and soon realizes that her diverse group of students is embroiled in the racial gang war culture
of the time. At this point Ms. G did not abandon, she try her best to give the students brand new
books, make them know she care and respect them no matter what happened. If it were not her

Abc Corporation s Management Plan
Introduction I conducted my research based on a company for which I am familiar with but do not
work for. ABC Corporation is based out of Anywhere Town, KS. ABC Corporation actually bids on
government, Department of Defense (DoD), contracts and if accepted is awarded the contract as
the either the Prime or Subcontractor on the military installations. As the Prime or Subcontractor,
ABC Corporation, has no policies and procedures in place when they are awarded the contract.
Those policies and procedures are actually built into the contract that the installation awards such as
Contract shall meet the requirements of ISO 9001 2008 for all contracted services (Plan A, 2015) .
There is no mandate in place that requires that ABC have an integrated managementsystem. ABC s
approach is that a structured system is in place to ensure that the contractual requirements that the
government has set forth are met and to continually improve the effectiveness of the Quality System.

Seasonism Religion
When it comes to Seasonism, all six dimensions of religion are present. Seasonism is a
polytheistic religion practiced on Winoc, a small fictional island. In Seasonism, there are four
gods which represent each season; there is the god of winter, spring, summer, and fall. For the
people of Winoc to prosper and live fruitful lives, they must perform rituals, offerings, and prayers
that align with the current season. If they do not please the gods, there will be dire consequences.
Within Seasonism there exists a mythological dimension unlike any other. There are numerous
myths and stories present in Seasonism that explain the creation of the world, the existence of
humankind, and the meaning of life. Naturally, the fundamental myth that Seasonism ... Show more

For this reason, the ritual dimension is central to Seasonism. Out of the copious amounts of
rituals found in Seasonism, there are a few that ensure the overall well being of the community.
Not only are fertility dances mandatory in Spring, but they also symbolize vitality in newborns.
Women can rest assured they will have a healthy pregnancy and will not experience any
complications while giving birth. Everyone who resides in Winoc knows that children are the
future of their society. Consequently, rituals surrounding fertility like the fertility dance are
taken seriously. Rain dances involve people screeching, dancing, and reciting Seasonism
doctrine, in the hope of being able to receive enough rainfall to drink water, grow crops, clean
their homes, and do work. While the attendance of rituals demonstrates faith, sacrifices show
true devotion. From the head tribal leader to the laity, everyone is required to sacrifice
something they hold dear. It may be anything from a favorite type of food to a hobby. In
Seasonism, a rite of passage involves a ceremony where members of the community congregate
and declare a young person as an adult. During this ceremony, a sacrifice to the respective season
god is made by the person coming of age. Once an individual has gone through this rite of
passage, it is their mission in life to serve the season gods. Any leniencies that adolescent person
had are gone, and they are treated as any other adult citizen. Finally, a trinity of rituals are to be
performed every Summer. This trinity includes the previously mentioned beach slumber for 3
nights, the consumption of fish for 3 days, and the 3 days of leisure. Clearly, Seasonism contains a

On Wishes By Mahmoud Darwish
Refugees are not terrorists, they are often the first victims of terrorism, was once written by an
anonymous author. Experiencing being a refugee in the middle east during times of war can be
extremely difficult. It can be a time of finding your strength, and building the courage to fight
for what you believe in. Mahmoud Darwish is the author of two poems Identity Card, and On
Wishes. Darwish s village was destroyed from the war, and later became exiled after joining the
political opposition. Darwish s perspective of war and having to mature faster than others are
discussed throughout his two poems. Throughout Darwish s poems he used vivid emotions to
express the many struggles you may run into while living life as a refugee. The first form of
anger that Darwish uses to express his feeling towards being exiled is through repetition.
Darwish uses repetition in his poetry as a constant reminder to himself and the reader that he is
who he is, and that he is angry at the Israeli Army. He is stating that no matter what they try to do
that he will still be an Arab. In the poem Identity Card, he repeats the phrase Put it on record. I am
an Arab. Growing up as a refugee, the author most likely faced many difficult situations based on
his country of origin. By repeating this phrase, he is acknowledging the fact that, although he is a
refugee, he too is a human. In the poem On Wishes, the phrase Don t say to me, is repetitive in the
story. The people talking to him

Iodine Clock Reaction
Introduction:
First discovered by Hans Heinrich Landolt in the 19th century, the Iodine Clock reaction is what
is described as a chemical clock reaction, and today is one of only few known to science. It is
useful as a tool in determining the rate of a chemical reaction due to a marked change in the color
of the reacting solution when a particular reaction has been completed. The process is also practical
as an introduction to reaction rates and kinetics. A solution of hydrogen peroxide is mixed with one
containing potassium iodide, starch and sodium thiosulfate. After a varying amount of time the
colorless mixture suddenly turns dark blue which is one of a number of reactions related to the
iodine clock. The positive points of the lab would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the lab, a stopwatch was used to measure the time of the reaction taking place. The eye
hand coordination of a human simply cannot be trusted to be entirely accurate which is why
there was uncertainty about the accuracy of the stopwatch.Although the conduction of this
experiment was straightforward, it would be better if we had access to more potassium iodide.
The concentration of potassium iodide was too low, and as a result it delayed the time that the
reaction took place. For example, in trial 2, the portion of sodium thiosulfate is higher than
potassium iodide s, so the reaction delayed. The concentration of potassium iodide would be
higher if the potassium iodide provided to us was not diluted. The potassium iodide provided
was at a concentration of 0.2 moles and if it were at a higher concentration, we would ve gotten a
quicker reaction. As an alternate method for this lab, solid potassium iodide could be used instead
of liquid potassium iodide since the amount of solid potassium iodide can alter the concentration
of the solution. In order to get solid potassium iodide, we would boil liquid potassium iodide, and
as a result, solid potassium iodide would be left in the plate due to the evaporation of

History Of The New Zealand Army Essay
QUESTION 3:
HOBBITON
History:
In 1998 was when it all started ,looking for the perfect area of land suitable for a village of
Hobbits, Peter Jackson found the Alexanders family farm while he was on a aerial search
suitable for what they needed with pristine rolling grasslands, like a slice of ancient England
(Wikipedia TLOTR), looked as though Hobbits had already begun excavations (Alan Lee ,set
decorator). After some negotiations were made with the Alexander family ,shortly after
construction begun in March 1999 transforming the landscape into the set for Hobbiton. The New
Zealand army also got involved bringing heavy machinery to build a 1.5 kilometer road from the
nearest highway to the construction site. Peter Jackson wrote: I knew Hobbiton needed to be
warm, comfortable and feel lived in. By letting the weeds grow through the cracks and establishing
hedges and little gardens a year before filming, we ended up with an incredibly real place, not just a
film set (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobbiton_Movie_Set).So much detail went into creating the
perfect atmosphere for the 37 Hobbit holes ,gardens and even hedges. In December 1999 filming
commenced for The Lord of the Rings and lasted for three months. The set, originally built out of
untreated timber, ply and polystyrene, was never meant to last, but only for the duration that was
needed however it became a place of interest for tourist.

Duality Of Song Essay
Song s physicality of this personification is not limited to her behavior, she also uses the physical
act of sex as another power dynamic over Gallimard. Her portrayal of herself as an inexperienced
modest Chinese girl (Hwang, 40) gives Gallimard the idea that she is the complete embodiment
of his desires. Song uses her fals inexperience as another way for Gallimard to feel confidence
and control in their relationship. Song takes this a step further by telling Gallimard that she is
capable of pleasing him while still maintaining her modesty. This use of her body without her body
is what Gallimard is most fascinated by. Her ability to carry out his fantasy by being completely
modest while still giving him the pleasure that he wants is the... Show more content on

Song even begins to challenge Gallimard s identity by creating a dynamic in their relationship
that is as much about Gallimard s insecure sense of self as it is his desire for power and control.
Gallimard explains, She would always have prepared a light snack and then, ever so delicately,
and only if I agreed, she would start to pleasure me... But mostly we would talk. About my life.
Perhaps there is nothing more rare than to find a woman who passionately listens. (Hwang, 49)
Song not only displays the ability to listen to Gallimard but the absolute desire to do so, thereby
making him feel valued by her. Gallimard has a constant desire for validation throughout the
play and Song s ability to commit her entire self, body and mind, to him gives him the
verification that he needs and so he is able to feel the confidence in his daily life that he does
with her. This display of his necessity to be listened to shows his need for validation. Because
Song understands this she listens to Gallimard and confirms his thoughts and feelings. Gallimard s
need to be listened to reveals his need to feel valuable, a need rooted in an unstable

emotional, physical, sensory, learning, or developmental disability (Assouline, Foley, Huber, 2006).
The term gifted student refers to a student who has an exceptional capability (2006). Over the years
there have been numerous myths about gift learners. One such myth is that these students are lazy
or underachievers (2006). Another myth is that a student can be gifted and also have a learning
disability (2006). This kind of thinking has led to numerous amounts of students being misclassified
and not receiving the services and interventions they need (2006). The twice exceptional student

Macbeth Consequences
Every action has a consequence
Every action has a consequence, this statement relates to Shakespeare s play Macbeth , as
Macbeth is a tragic hero who destroys himself by his own wicked and selfish ambitions. At the
beginning of the play Macbeth is portrayed as a courageous, noble hero of Scotland who has
bravely won victory over the war. After this win, Macbethand Banquo come across three
supernatural beings who prophesies Macbeth s rein as king of Scotland. As the story unfolds, the
witches prophecy is proven to be correct and Macbeth soon becomes a tyrant king who is willing
to murder anyone who will bring his rein to an end. Macbeth s spouse, lady Macbeth is also shown
destroying her reputation of a noble woman through her barbaric actions. The statement every
action has a consequence also correlates to the film the lion king directed by Roger Allers and Rob
Minkoff. The similarities of scars reckless actions to lead Simba and Mufasa (the king) into a
stampede of wildebeests that ended in the death of Mufasa, is what led to scars downfall and death.
Therefore, Shakespeare play Macbeth implements the statement every action has a consequence
through various ways, many similar to the film the lion king.
Macbeth s actions are what lead to the consequence of death. His first significant choice that lead up
to his fatal consequence was to kill king Duncan. This ambition originated in the early stages of the
text when the witches caught the heroes attention by

Let s Talk About Sex.....Preference in Non Western Cultures
Introduction
Each day, over one hundred and eighteen million babies are born worldwide. According to the
biological sex binary male and female, every infant has the possibility of being born with sex
chromosomes female (XX) and male (XY), which causes differences in their biological
anatomies. There are also individuals with disorders of sex development or more commonly
referred to as being intersex. Intersex is an umbrella term for people whose sexual or reproductive
anatomies, sex hormones, or sex chromosomes just do not fall neatly into the definitions of male
and female. Examples of this disorder could include ambiguous genitalia, androgen sensitivity, or
abnormalities with how the rest of the body responds to sex hormones. The majority of cultures
around the globe give merit to and recognize the differences in biological sex (male/female binary),
what roles they have played in their traditions/histories, and their current position in framing politics
or societal structures. Some Non Western countries such as China, India, Taiwan, and Pakistan,
include cultures that exhibit a strong sex preference, or more specifically son preference. More
than simply preferring the births of sons to daughters, son preference develops from instances of
gender inequality where outside parties often question basic human rights. Non Western

French Education System Essay
French Education System:
France has a centralized education system, with a curriculum set at a national level. The majority of
schools are public, free, and state run (ecoles publiques). Some private schools (sous contrat) exist
that are run and subsidized by the French government, which charge nominal fees. Fully
independent private schools exist (ecoles prives hors contrat), which are fee paying. These
independent private scgools can be religiously oriented, or international / bilingual.
The learning style tends to be of a traditional nature, which entails classroom learning, testing, and
discipline. French schools value the authority of the teacher, competition, evaluating through
grading, and analytical thinking over creativity. Class sizes tend to be large, with 30 or more
students per class. Teachers teach one subject in most scenarios, which is typical of the traditional
method. Changes have been presented to reform the French schooling system, but is met with
opposition that prefers the traditional method. French schooling is split up into three primary and
secondary levels: primary school (Г©cole), middle school (collГЁge), and high school (lycГ©e).
After high school, students can attend university or enter the workforce.
French students take the baccalaurГ©at exam towards the end of their primary and secondary
schooling. Passing the test is necessary to attend university. Performance on the exam is highly
scrutinized, and high tier grades receive special honors.

  • 3. Anne Sexton Old In the poem Old by Anne Sexton, the narrator is presumably in a hospital setting as she says she is afraid of needles and tired of rubber sheets , tubes , and faces that I don t know . This choice of setting is most likely a result of Sexton s own stays in mental hospitals because of her depression and addiction troubles. After the setting is established the narrator says that she thinks death is starting and that is starts like a dream . Dreams are seen as a positive thing where people experience their inner most desires. By equating death to a dream, Sexton is saying that she sees death as a place of peace and solace from unhappiness. The suicidal tendencies expressed in the poem as well as the narrative voice remind me of conversations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Manufacture of the Perfect Woman The Manufacture of the Perfect Woman In today s society, the media remains a pronounced source of information throughout the westernized world and beyond. Men, women, and children alike interact with some sort of media in their day to day lives. This wealth of information can be significantly useful and provides an essential way of communicating important intelligence. However, it also acts as a means of entertainment. Because of its ever present existence, this aspect of modern culture tends to influence and impact those who interact with it regularly. Although often a beneficial source of communication, media can have a negative impact on those that consume it, especially female viewers. Fictional media, more specifically, impacts an... Early interpreting of these images predicts the start of a never ending struggle with identity and self image. Unsurprisingly, girls adopt unhealthy self images especially with the prevalence of mass media messages in early developmental stages: Between the ages of eight and eighteen spend more than 10 hours a day using media, including more than four hours with television content delivered in a variety of formats and almost 1.5 hours on the Internet (McGladrey). This early exposure leads to later, lasting issues. Most shocking, media pressure can lead to premature feelings of despair before adolescence: The early girls coping mechanisms for dealing with these body related pressures are diverse but almost universally self destructive. Rates of depression markedly increase during adolescence, with twice as many girls displaying depressive symptoms as boys by the age of fifteen (Hankin et al. as cited in McGladrey). When a female feels as if her appearance does not match that of the media norm, she struggles with her image. A factor most do not take into account, the accurateness of traits commonly associated with beauty, can also be the downfall of overly accepting women. Especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BOD was generally higher and more variable at different locations around Abu Dhabi City and in Confined Areas, although mean BOD at all locations was generally lower from 2013 2015 than in previous years for which data are available. Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are solids in water that can be trapped by a filter and may include a wide variety of material, such as silt, decaying plant matter, industrial wastes, and sewage. In general, TSS has been higher in the past 5 years in Confined Areas than at the other stations. TSS has declined since 2011 at all locations except in MPAs, where the annual mean TSS was highest in 2013. Mean TSS in 2015 was highest in May in Confined Areas. Organic pollutants are chemical compounds that contain carbon and have a negative effect on one or more components of the environment. From 2011 2015, EAD monitored marine waters for two organic pollutants: total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). TPHs is a term used to describe a mixture of several hundreds of chemical compounds that are derived from crude oil. Measurable background concentrations of TPH can be a result of excess oil contamination or in some cases the result of a natural petroleum seep. High levels of some petroleum hydrocarbons can cause adverse health effects, including benzene, which is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Lady Macbeth Analysis Some actresses see Lady Macbeth as sympathetic to her husband like Sarah Siddons and Kate Fleetwood, feeling sympathy for Macbeth is a decision both actresses made for Lady Macbeth to be relatable and more human, Siddons who portrayed her in the mid 1800s said that she approached her as, keen to present the character in as attractive a light as possible, so sexually appealing fair feminine, nay perhaps even fragile (Sarah Siddons qtd. In Robert Miola, 94). Siddons saw the character of Macbethas honorable and to have him as a husband only proves Lady Macbeth is very taken with him, having put all of her efforts into seducing such an honorable man. Kate Fleetwood s own interpretation of Lady Macbeth was very domestic, the societal hostess. In an interview in 2011, Fleetwood who was directed by her husband Rupert Goold in the 2007 version of the play said that, When Rupert suggested to me about the domestic side of her, that started to ring really big bells for me (Fleetwood qtd. In Miola, 135). The argument about how Lady Macbeth truly loves her husband and tried to summons the spirits is because she knows that Macbeth is very ambitious, and she needs all the strength she can have to convince him to act out the three witches prophecy. This arguement and its solution is very valid, Lady Macbeth only acting out for the benefit of her husband, she wants her husband to be the king of Scotland but it does not mean she wants to queen herself. In an interview, Fleetwood also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Example Of Nonverbal Communication COM1211N1 NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION ASSIGNMENT Analysis of Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication can range from gestures, facial expressions, and other behaviors that are attempting to send a message to another person without using words to communicate. With several forms of nonverbal communication, there is an attached message with the behaviors, though they can have different meanings to different people. The message being sent along with the nonverbal behaviors can also be directly noticed and understood by the other person in the conversation, or can be completely misunderstood or unnoticed. While examining the characteristics and behaviors of nonverbal gestures, we can unravel the message being relayed within communication. I had identified two couples each on a date at Panino s restaurant, finding individual characteristics of nonverbal communication, as one couple had been in a disagreement and one couple had a more romantic evening together. Though during the observation of each interaction, I had noticed contradistinction between the way the two couples communicated using non verbally, movement and gesture, and facial display messages. Signs of Nonverbal Communication: Expressing Emotions The couple who had been in a disagreement at the restaurant had many interactions of verbal and nonverbal conversations. The verbal messages being sent from the lady to the gentlemen were that he had sent another lady flirtatious messages on Facebook, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first planning meeting took place that same evening for Operation Market. Planning/Preparation Due to the shortened timeline, the Allies had to act fast if they were going to capitalize on the momentum gained thus far. From conception to initiation, planning time for Operation Market Garden was one week. Compared to the months spent planning the airborne invasion of Normandy, Operation Market Garden s short planning timeline raised doubt and concern among all participants. Most of which, were concerns over the sheer size of the operation and the fact that it was created with such a short planning cycle. Another major concern was due to a lack of night illumination, the airborne drop would be made during the day deep behind enemy lines. When sweat seeps out of these pores, it runs over the ridges. Thus, when a finger, palm, or foot touches a surface, an impression is made which in technical terms is known as a latent print. However, when a print is collected from a police station directly from the source, this is known as an exemplar print (Haber and Haber, 2008; Creswell, 2015). The science of fingerprint analysis rests on three, recently, controversial assumptions: Firstly, the ridge patterns never change during the life of a person; secondly, no two individuals will have the same ridge patterns; lastly, the transferability of an impression of that uniqueness to another surface. (Gianelli, 2006). This allowed for fingerprint analysts to form a procedure which other experts around the world are invited to use, known as ACE V. ACE V ACE V which is an acronym which stands for Analysis in which analysts categorise certain features of the print. Comparison where the latent print is compared to the known print of a suspect. Evaluation is the stage in which the examiner is expected to make an inference as to whether the latent print matches the print of the suspect or not. Finally, the process of Verification whereby, the analyst sends their data to another expert to confirm their inference (Lawless, 2009). The main reason for the Confederate invasion was that the British were on the verge of recognizing the Confederacy if they could show it could hold its own, and Lee was anxious to provide a cornerstone for the Confederacy to build upon. The Battle of Antietamwas the bloodiest day in American history and was a major blow to the Army of Northern Virginiaand the morale of the south. This is the tableau against which our story unfolds. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sears uses language that most all of us can understand, and clearly it is a very well researched work. He supports his claims in the book with a copious amount of facts and yet still keeps the course of the book moving forward. He draws on a variety of sources including diaries and letters of the participants to produce, arguably, his definitive work. Sears thesis is actually two fold; one that McClellan missed countless opportunities to defeat Lee and two that McClellan was an incompetent commander who missed several instances to take initiative and win the battle decisively. The young Napoleon, as McClellan was known, often waited an inordinate amount of time before making a movement with his troops. For me, reading the details (with heavy emphasis to the Union story) was captivating. No recon, no communication, egotistical leadership, timidity, and procrastination all combined and helped the Union snatch defeat (or, at the very least, a draw) from the jaws of victory. This battle, like others before and after it, could have really shortened the Civil War. On the other hand, Sears holds Lee in high esteem. Though taking unnecessary risks at times, he manages to skillfully avoid being crushed at the hands of a numerically superior opponent. Portnoy s Complaint by Philip Roth tells the story of a perverse mama s boy Jewish bachelor, who confesses to his psychoanalyst all of his complaints and struggles. Topics mentioned in the book include the experiences of assimilated American Jews, the relationship between American Jews and Jews of Israel, and the characteristics of being part of a Jewish family. Portnoy s Complaint fits right in within Jewish comedy traditions, especially within the time period of its debut. Roth s novel reads like a classic Stand up routine. As Portnoy himself calls it The Alexander Portnoy Show! The character of Alexander Portnoy personifies the relevant humor found in Jewish tradition. The character of Alexander Portnoy represents the classic Jewish stigma of the Schlemiel. According to Sanford Pinsker in his book, The Schlemiel as Metaphor, the schlemiel embodied the negative qualities of weaknesses that had to be ridiculed in order to be overcome within Jewish life. Pinsker describes the Schlemiel as one whom looks upon their disabilities as peripheral sufferings, sustained through no fault of their own, and is seen as a model of perseverance. An example of Portnoy as a schlemiel is when he talked about his favorite activity, masturbation. • 38. Stigma Of Social Welfare System The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the social welfareprograms, as well as show how widespread social welfare is. Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974). The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The Industrial Revolution proposes an opportunity for a better life and persuades blacks to move North in clusters creating black communities. The injustice amongst blacks led to the mashing of black communities which they call the projects. After a while whites seized the chance to form their own community in the suburbs and collect most of the jobs in the city. Blacks suffer because of this movement and are becoming even more poor and difficult to maintain a regular life. Some blacks sought refuge by saving up all their money and making plans to move to the suburbs. Eventually their ideas of moving to the suburbs becomes a conflict for whites who disagrees with them. Many authors express their experience of living in the city during the 1950 s and the limitations that are present. Author Lorraine Hansberry illustrated the lifestyle of blacks during these hard times by writing A Raisin in the Sun. Mahmoud Darwish is the author of two poems Identity Card, and On Wishes. Darwish s village was destroyed from the war, and later became exiled after joining the political opposition. The eye hand coordination of a human simply cannot be trusted to be entirely accurate which is why there was uncertainty about the accuracy of the stopwatch.Although the conduction of this experiment was straightforward, it would be better if we had access to more potassium iodide. The concentration of potassium iodide was too low, and as a result it delayed the time that the reaction took place. For example, in trial 2, the portion of sodium thiosulfate is higher than potassium iodide s, so the reaction delayed. The concentration of potassium iodide would be higher if the potassium iodide provided to us was not diluted. The potassium iodide provided was at a concentration of 0.2 moles and if it were at a higher concentration, we would ve gotten a quicker reaction. As an alternate method for this lab, solid potassium iodide could be used instead of liquid potassium iodide since the amount of solid potassium iodide can alter the concentration of the solution.
