Binge Eating in Non-Western Cultures
Literature regarding eating disorders in non Western cultures in general is scarce. Very few studies
address disordered eating in cultures outside of the Western and Westernized world. This could be
because of the perceived lack of eating disorders in non industrialized countries or even because
there is an overwhelming amount of concern over eating disorders in Western society. However,
there have been several studies done on binge eating and dietary restraint in non western citizens
and in non Caucasian women in the United States. Women who are not from a Caucasian
background face different societal and traditional pressures than do Caucasian women in Western
cultures, but some of the women in those cultures were found to have binge... Show more content

A major way in which they express this negative self perception is to restrain their diets or binge
eat (Eating Disorders Review, 2007, 5). Many cultures idealize robust women and practice feasting
as a common social practice. However, women feel pressured by the stick thin images they see on
Western influenced television advertisements to lose weight or look more conventionally attractive
by Western standards. They feel torn between participating in their traditional custom and looking
like the women they see idealized in the media. They feel guilt and embarrassment about overeating
but participate in it as part of the cultural norm. (Becker, 2003, 430)
Women who feel shame about eating are also less likely to seek help for their eating disorders, and
this shame has been found to be more prevalent in women from non Western ethnicities living in the
Western world. Women from different ethnicities experience guilt and a fear of losing control
while eating at different levels. Asian and Native American women are the most likely to feel
embarrassed about overeating or losing control while eating (Eating Disorders Review, 2007, 5).
They are therefore the least likely to seek help for their binge eating disorders. Healthcare providers
should take ethnicity into account when determining causal factors of binge eating in women from
Asian and Native American cultures because they are more

Tristan Social Norms
Also Tristan may imply that even though love has an uncontrollable and powerful control, it
doesn t come without a cost, as when Marke finds out of the relationship between Tristan and
Isolde, Tristan is forced to flee to Normandy (Von Strassburg 284)4. Tristan finally represents the
change of social norms in the twelfth century. One major change of the social norm would be
the quest of real love rather than arranged marriages. Isolde and Marke s marriage was a literal
arranged marriage, and as it was shown in the romance, neither one of them were truly happy.
With true love of Isolde and Marke, they were much happier. While it only affected the nobility
and people of upperclass, it encouraged the desire of finding true love, and not just

Underage Drinking Alcohol
Drinking Alcohol Should Be Banned On Young People
Underage drinking alcohol contributes to the death of approximately 5,000 people every year the
violence, injuries, aggressive behavior and deaths that can result from underage drinking. Drinking
alcohol among teens, college students and adolescents is a major health problem in the United
States, and it is a public concern. As a result, the community is affected by the loss of young people
lives, lost productivity and significant health care costs. Thus, drinking alcohol should be banned
on young people.
Alcohol consumption by young adults leads to increased risk of accidental and violent injury.
When teens early exposure to the behavioral pattern of alcohol consumption of parents of family
history of alcohol problems, this will cause to increase the risk of behavioral drinking in adolescence
. For instance, young people who exposure to physical and sexual abuse during childhood,

Phases Of Feature Selection Methods
Subset search algorithms explore through candidate feature subsets achieved by a certain
evaluation measure, those are excellent at capturing the benefaction of each subset. In general,
Feature selection methods ought to select the best feature subset from feature space for describing
target interpretations (conceptions) of the learningprocesses. The phases in the process of feature
selectionare given as follows: 1. Starting Point, 2. Search Strategy, 3. Subset Evaluation, 4.
Stopping Criteria. Based on these phases comparative study of feature selection methods is shown

Difference between those measured distances has used as the weight of the target feature. This
basic algorithm was extracted into several variants. I RELIEF approach reduces the biasness of
original RELIEF method. Conditional Mutual Information Maximization (CMIM) is the one that
chooses a feature subset that has maximum relevance to the target class by using conditional mutual
information. CMIM requires both the feature values and output classes to be binary (Diman
Todorov et.al,2014).
Correlation Coefficient approach evaluates how well an individual feature contributes to the
separation of classes. Ranking criteria is used to rank all features using their mean and standard
deviation for all the samples of both classes. The correlation coefficient is successfully reduced the
number of features and also kept good classification accuracy (Zong Xia et.al,2006).
Between Within Ratio (BW ratio) uses the ratio between group to within group sums of squares for
each feature, and select feature with maximum BW ratio. A single variable can be considered
irrelevant based on its correlation to the class, but when combines with other features in the feature
space, it becomes very relevant (Z. Zhao et.al, 2007).
Genetic Algorithm is a randomized approach. It is a class of evolutionary algorithms that makes
use of practices inspired by evolutionary biology such as inheritance, mutation, selection, and
crossover. Each feature set

The Effects Of Bpa On Human Health
Bisphenol A, commonly referred to as BPA, is a synthetic carbon compound present in consumer
plastic products. These products include water bottles, food containers, canned foods coated with
protective linings, and shopping receipts. According to the CDC, 93% of Americans have traces of
BPA chemicals present in their urine samples. This has recently attracted attention in the media
because BPA is linked with a plethora of potential health hazards; such as the development of
cancer, diabetes, asthma, and disruptions in the endocrine system. Scientists currently focus on the
estrogenic activity caused by levels of BPA chemicals found in consumer plastic products, and are
concerned about the potential negative effects on human health. This concern is based studies
which have shown disruptions in the reproductive and endocrine systems of laboratory rats (Vinas
and Watson 2013). The estrogenic properties of the compound BPA were first discovered by
British medical researcher Edward Charles Dodds in the 1930s. Dodds aimed to create a drug that
could be used to treat problems relating to pregnancy symptoms, menopause, menstruation, and the
prevention of miscarriages. Although BPA was not successful in the medical industry, around the
same time, chemists in Switzerland and the United States discovered that BPA could be made into
epoxy resins. This new discovery quickly became popular in the industrial production industries for
uses such as piping, adhesives, and protective

Spirited Away Essay
Give 110% this quote is usually uttered to athletes who are struggling to find motivation or to
push through a workout. It is pretty obviously a hyperbole. We usually over emphasize what we
want our children to learn. It seems that Miyazaki followed this pattern in his film Spirited
Away, specifically in his character Chihiro. In the story Chihiro gives 110%. She is always
humble and willing to do anything with very little personal gain involved. Chihiro is a very
idealistic representation of how to be selfless, which is not possible to apply to real life. Modern
culture has a strong opinion on being selfish versus being selfless. People who display the
personality trait of being selfish are demonized, some for good reason, but sometimes it is not
possible to give the entirety of ourselves to others. If we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Look to a child for an answer. Chihiro embodies this sense of complete trust and outpouring of
oneself. Specifically represented by her willingness to go to Zeniba s house on the small chance
that she has a possibility to save Haku s life. This choice sounds like it is relatively small and
should be an easy accomplishment, but requires going on a train that runs one way and a long
journey away. There is a chance she will not make it back to her parents and go home. Now she
does have some personal gain due to her love for Haku, but the risk of never returning home
displays how selfless she can be. Chihiro is willing to throw away chances of going home on the
slight change that she can save her friend. She does not stop there, she brings along the monster,
No face, who was terrorizing the bath house. She not only does something for little gain, but
changes others for the better in the process. By bringing No face, she is bettering the world for
everyone when she could have easily left him there to continue to cause problems. The only issue
is the way she is portrayed is not entirely accurate to how real life

Pisa, Italy, Galileo Galilei was born. Throughout his life he had numerous accomplishments
including being the first person to study the sky with a telescope, which led to numerous other
astronomically astronomical discoveries. If he would not have existed we may never have
uncovered many of the truths about space and astronomy. Galileo Galileiwas a man of thought and
curiosity, these characteristics led him to be one the most well known and influential scientists in
the world today.

He continued to do research in understanding the motion of falling objects. He was also very
interested in the physics behind the pendulum. Once Hans Lippershey invented the telescope he
began studying and eventually improving upon the design. Though he is often falsely credited with
creating the telescope, he was the first person to use the telescope.
The use of the telescope led him to discover new characteristics of space and the solar system. He
discovered Jupiter s four largest moons and the rings of Saturn. He also discovered that the Milky
Way galaxy is comprised of stars. The observation of mountains on the moon was made by Galileo
as well. He also made numerous discoveries within these discoveries.
One of his biggest and most significant discoveries was the confirmation that the sun was the center
of the universe. This idea of a sun centered universe is called a heliocentric universe. This idea
was first proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus. The Catholic Church believed that the Earth was the
center of the universe. This is called a geocentric universe. When Galileo announced his discovery it

The pillar of Zalat is also observed such as through the distribution of money for nahr to the poor
and pillar of Salat is also performed through daily prayer which significantly deepens connection
with God. Thus the Hajj is significant for the individual through fulfillment of pillars which
strengthen Muslim faith. It affects the community who as umma ,affirm commitment to Allah and
join together in performing the practices of faith, thereby strengthening the global Islamic
community.
Spiritual beliefs are also enhanced during Hajj, making it significant for the community and
individual. Muslims believe that the Hajj was designed and commanded to be observed by Allah.
The most intensive experience of umma in the life of a Muslim is to perform Hajj, the fifth pillar
of faith, making it extremely significant in the lives of Islamic adherents and the community, as the
event provides an opportunity for a sense of umma, through recognition of tawhid. Hajj provides
Muslims with the opportunity to awaken their consciousness of their God centrality, through the
tawaf made around the Ka ba as Muslims recite their submission to will of Allah. This collective
form of worship also contributes significantly to an individuals self identity through being part of
the umma. It is also a means of increasing the certainty of faith as Muslims see more than two
million adherents performing Hajj. Hajj also

culture can be relied on to guarantee the future success of a business? Justify your answer with
reference to Intel and/or other organisations you know. (40 marks)
An organisation s culture refers to the way we do things around here and is determined by the
values, attitudes and beliefs of the people who work within it. As such, culture will undoubtedly
influence the success of a business. In particular, it can be argued that an innovative culture can

BMW use a similar culture where everyone is expected to help find solutions. They have a network
of committed associates with few hierarchical barriers, allowing every employee to voice their
opinion. This culture has allowed BMW to promote new products and get the product just right
through thousands of brainstorming sessions. These examples show how innovation can lead to
success in technological industries.
Innovative culture can be relied on to guarantee the future success of a business, as the external
environment is constantly changing. This can be linked to Charles Handy s theory of discontinuous
change which means that in the future change is constant, and therefore an innovative culture
would most likely guarantee a business success. Being highly innovative would mean that managers
would have to be flexible and react to the constantly changing external environment, therefore
adopting an innovative culture would mean businesses would have to come up with ideas and
strategies for the future in order for the business to remain competitive and successful. Innovative
culture should equip firms with the ability to cope better with change. For example Intel s strategy
of diversification where they use tactics such as job swapping and controlled employee role
changes to increase

The Cherokee Language Is Still Alive
The question is if the Cherokee language is still alive. Is this language still spoken? Yes, it is. The
Cherokee language is classified linguistically as a member of the Iroquoian family, spoken by the
Cherokee people, originally inhabiting Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina,
Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee. As a consequence of colonization, however, the
Cherokeenation almost suffered destruction during the infamous Trail of Tears, 1838 1839, the
forced removal of more than fifteen thousand people. Now, in the twenty first century, the Cherokee
make up one of the biggest Native American tribes within the U.S. with over 300,000 members.
Despite their language s gravely endangered status, they are within the top ten of large groups of
indigenous language speakers. However, they had to overcome many struggles. Among members of
Cherokee Nation in the northeast of Oklahoma, there are only a few under the age of 40 who can
be considered fluent speakers of the Cherokee language (Cherokee Nation, 2003). This survey by
the Cherokee Nation was conducted of 115,026 Cherokee citizens who live within the 14 counties
of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. Thus, children are not acquiring the language at home as
there is a lack of parents being native speakers. Consequently, UNESCO (2003) labels Cherokee as
definitely endangered. But how come the parents and even the parents of parents do not speak their
native tongue anymore? To answer this, one must know

The True Essence Of Being Great Essay
ohermosa2493@gmail.com
I.INTRODUCTION
The true essence of being great is to be the servant of all, as what Jesus shared with his disciples in
the story of the parable of the labourers in the vineyard and I quote:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and give
His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28).
I am blessed to have been a part of the Superintendent s Leadership Program (SLP) Batch 2 of the
Department of Education in partnership with De La Salle University, the Philippines Australia
Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF), Eugenio Lopez Center
(ELC) and Knowledge Channel.
According to Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC, SLP is a journey with the generals expected
to be the frontliners of the entire transformation initiative of the department. Eugenio Lopez
Center is the place for that dream to transform the kind of education we have in the Philippines. I
could vividly remember that statement and it has moved me to give my best as a Schools
Division Superintendent of the Schools Division of Bayawan City. No matter how small that city
division maybe, but if it will have the great leadership, it will make the difference. According to
Maxwell, everything falls and rises in leadership ( Maxwell,2007).
Perhaps our greatest power in life is the power to choose. Without question, choices are the most
determining factor in how our lives turn out. ( Maxwell,2007).

A Positive Performance Analysis
Three positive things about my performance I thought were my calming voice, reflection on topic
of discussion and body gestures. Throughout my presentation I thought that my voice was
reassuring to listen to and not over enthusiastic. I think that throughout my intake interview it was
important for me to think of myself of being in the position of talking normally to a friend and I
think that showed through my performance. In contrast, during my conversation with my friend
Sarah, I asked her questionsin regards to how her disorder has impacted her leisure lifestyle, what
activities she likes to do and what activities she would like to try doing throughout her sessions. I
listened to her as she gave her responses and I thought that I did well at asking her further questions
and confronting certain topics to betterunderstand her point of view. I then reflect off that by
reiterating what she had previously said, but stated it in a different way. I thought this was
beneficial because I overall felt more comfortable asking her more questions, which lead to a
deeper conversation. Lastly, I thought my non verbal skills were relaxed, I remained engaged
throughout the conversation with eye contact and the distance between us was at a comfortable
place. Generally, I feel like I had a positive performance because I have done a similar
interviewing project in the past and I think that I was naturally able to have a conversation. Open

The Psychology s Credibility And Usefulness
Introduction The general public has doubts about the psychology s credibility and usefulness
(Lilienfeld, 2012). These misconceptions have been tied to possible sources of skepticism such as
illusions of understanding, psychology s problematic public face, and individual s hindsight bias
(Lilienfeld, 2012). This skepticism must exist for a reason and it is crucial to understand why the
general public finds behavioral scienceresearch less credible than that of other scientific disciplines
often described as harder sciences.
Methodology biases in research do occur, which can make individuals question scientific evidence s
credibility, but critical analysis of these method biases has been repeatedly assessed to identify

Political identification can be used to create an in group out group affect that motivates individuals
to believe or disbelieve scientific evidence. If psychological methods appeared more technology
based, similar to those perceived in hard neurosciences, individuals might form their assumptions
about the scientific evidence to reflect these biases, when motivated by a strongly held political
identity. Further investigating individual s biases towards perceptions of behavioral scientific
evidence could provide a better understanding of how information can be presented to the general
public. In the present study, it is hypothesized that biases of evidence quality for psychological
methods will reveal the high tech behavioral science evidence condition will be of similar higher
quality compared to the neuroscience evidence condition. In addition, participants that are
motivated by their political party identification strength will judge the low tech behavioral science
condition the least favorably. This paper will review theories of cognitive dissonance and social
identity that along with motivated reasoning evaluate decision making towards biases, examine the
hard versus soft science debate, understand the pubic skepticism that exists within the field of
psychology, further address implications of neuroscience s perceived credibility, and follow up

According to Winnipeg Free Press, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau s wife was roundly criticized
for stating she needs more help with her ceremonial duties. She reportedly receives many

member and no office at her disposal, it s clearly difficult to accomplish this ( ~, 2016). For the
reason above, SGT is being overwhelmed by a number of works. However, people who are not
in favor of her comment claimed that there is no accurate system about first lady in Canada, and
as such office is unnecessary for SGT in that she is not a formal position. Having said that, it is

The Creation Of Telomerase
The cell is busier than the streets of New York, and when it splits, it must have everything go
perfectly. If the chromosomes were to break down, the DNA it is holding could be damaged.
That could be catastrophic for the cell. This is where telomere comes in. Telomere is a small area
of nucleotides that repeat at the end of every chromosome to keep the chromosome from falling
apart and breaking down. But, the telomere doesn t just appear out of nowhere. It is created just
like everything else, with DNA. Nobel Prize winner cellbiologist Carol W. Greider discovered the
enzyme telomerase. Telomerase is what creates the DNA found in telomere.

While saliva is mainly consisting of water, it also contains proteins in large number. Researchers
have found that about 30% of blood proteins are also present in saliva, as well as containing
hormones, antibodies that are also measured during the blood analyzes [2,9]. The similarities of
components present in both blood and saliva allows the saliva to be an alternative for blood test in
many cases. While blood test has been the most common method used when trying to determine
the diagnostics of diseases. Blood analysis looks at compounds as they travel through the blood
serum, most of which are protein bound, while saliva analysis looks at the compounds at the
cellular level (the biologically active compounds) and therefore saliva is truly a representative of
what is clinically relevant [2]. Many healthcare providers are using saliva analysis before
continuing further with blood analysis. One of the advantage of saliva test as a diagnostic tool is
the elimination of potential risk of contracting infectious disease as the risk involved with blood
test. Compared to blood analysis, saliva has several key advantages including easy sample
collection and processing, low cost, noninvasiveness and efficient method.
While most people understand the importance of regular health check up, most diseases are not
capable of being detected until in their late stages. It is one of the reasons why researchers are
focusing on using the disease

The Importance Of Voter Participation In Canada
Elections are the most vital mechanism for a democracy since it is the role of the citizens to elect
the representatives of their government. As one of the most established democracies, Canada had
been experiencing decreasing participation in its elections. In 2008, voter turnout in Canada hit its
lowest point at an average of 58.8%, keeping in mind that the average voter turnoutin Canada has
been 70.7% (Canada, 2017). Even though there may not be one coherent explanation, there are a
few predictors that could justify the decline in Canada s voter turnout. Firstly, political interest is
essential in motivating citizens to participate in politics, and the least informed citizens are the less
motivated they are to participate. Secondly, personal barriers such as age, gender, race, language
and socio economic status play a major role as a determinant for the participation in elections.
Finally, Canada s current electoral process the system in which citizens use to cast their votes is a
factor that may deter participants from votingbecause of its cited weaknesses. For instance, the
current system has brought into question its lack of democracy and representation. Therefore,
while participation in federal elections is essential to a functioning democracy, there has been a
decline in voter turnout due to lack of political interest, personal barriers, and the electoral process.
Political interest is a highly important motivator for the participation in federal elections.

To what extent did the Red Guards control the Cultural Revolution? Section A The Cultural
Revolution in China started in 1966 and ended on Mao Zedong s death in 1976, on September
9th. While headed by Mao Zedong (sometimes spelled Tse Tung), otherwise known as Chairman
Mao, the Cultural Revolution contained a powerful group who called themselves the Red Guard,
student activists who killed, pillaged, and destroyed Old Fours for Zedong. One could argue they
were the drive of the Revolution. However, the Red Guards were not the Cultural Revolution,
though, neither was Mao Zedong. To what extent did the Red Guards control the Cultural
Revolution? This investigation will use memoirs (Red Scarf Girl, Life and Death in Shanghai)

Cheng s value is that she is a primary source who had direct contact with Red Guards. She would
have come into contact with other victims of the Revolution in jail. Another value is that this
book was written in English by her, which means her meaning is clear. One of her limitations is
that she had no contact with the outside world, giving her a obstructed view. Also, being as this
is a memoir, and most memoirs look to be entertaining, some details may have been embellished
or removed. The memoir was also written twenty years after her experience so it may not be
accurate. Her purpose was to publish an autobiographical novel that highlighted her struggle
during and after the Cultural Revolution. Ji li Jiang, on the other hand, was a child during the
Cultural Revolution. Red Scarf Girl is a memoir published in 1997. The origin of her memoir is
that it was published in America during the late 90 s, in English. Her value is that she also lived
in Shanghai, a hotspot of the Revolution. Another value is that her family was humiliated and her
father was arrested, so she understood what persecution was like, and more importantly, fear. A
limitation may be that as a twelve year old, her memories may have changed, as they were
published thirty years later. Also, as a memoir, details may have been altered. Jiang s purpose is to
tell how she grew up wanting to be a Red Guard and how the Cultural Revolution affected her
childhood.

(MRSA) is a major cause of hospital acquired and life threatening infections. It has also emerged
recently as a cause of community acquired infections. MRSA strains were first detected shortly
after the introduction of methicillin in the early 1960s. Methicillin resistance in staphylococci is
mediated by an altered penicillin binding protein (PBP2a), which confers resistance to beta lactam
antibiotics and is encoded by the mecA gene on the mobile element, staphylococcal cassette
chromosome mec (SCCmec). There are a variety of methods in diagnostic microbiology

They are considered to be an important cornerstone in preventing the spread of MRSA in health
care settings. New PCR based high throughput typing methods offer a rapid turnaround time,
with lower costs and in many cases high discriminatory power. However, these are very
expensive and cannot be afforded by all laboratories. Moreover, these require technical
equipment limiting their use only in developed centers. DISCUSSION Typing of MRSA is an
essential requirement to prevent its transmission and also to determine the precautionary and
preventive measures which needs to be taken. Raman spectroscopy (SpectraCellRA) is a
recently developed tool for bacterial typing. Recently, many new technologies have been
introduced into clinical microbiology laboratories for the rapid identification of microorganisms
such as matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI
TOFMS) which are aimed at reducing the delay in providing useful information to the clinicians
regarding patient care. There is an alternative, cost effective approach which is the use of
chromogenic media for screening nasal specimens such as BBL CHROMagar MRSA II
(CMRSA II, BD), MRSASelect and Spectra MRSA which are used for the qualitative detection of
MRSA. These chromogenic media are very selective and differential for MRSA. These media are
used for the suppression of Gram negative

The three different newspaper article providers that I chose are the New York Times, The Times
of India, and The Guardian the United Kingdom edition. The article that I chose to compare
between the three of them is about President Trump choosing his security advisors. I thought that it
would be something that would spark many different opinions on a recent debate would be
interesting to explore. The article itself is about President Trump choosing three of his new
advisors for CIA Director which he appointed Mike Pompeo, for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions,
and for National Security Advisor, Michael T. Flynn. It will be interesting to see what these
newspapers have to say about their opinion of these men and how they portray them.
The problem for many people is that people are afraid of what Donald Trump is going to try and do
with the United States government during his four years in the presidential seat. With his selection
of who he has asked to be leaders within his cabinet is another problem that the newly elected
President is going to have to face in the coming months. Many people in the U.S. are upset over his
picks due to the fact that they feel that they will be unfair and possibly unjust to the immigrants
living within the U.S. While the other portion of people here are looking forward to a new positive
change within their government with the new conservative leaders.

Research Paper On Ergonomics
1. Introduction
Ergonomics is an interdisciplinary field of study that seeks to design tools and equipment for
optimizing the interface between humans and systems [1]. Ergonomics is also known as the
process of understanding and improving human communications with types of products, equipment,
environments, and systems. Ergonomics principles are used to improve the fit between the worker
and the workplace. Targets for ergonomics improvement are divided into two broad categories
which are physical issues, such as reaches and exertion, and cognitive issues, such as mental
overload and confusing displays [2].
Many theories, principles, methods, and data relevant to the workstation design have been
generated through ergonomics research over the years. Poor workstation design can lead to
fatigued, frustrated, and hurting workers [3]. As a result, the productivity of the product and quality
will decrease [4].
Often in an industry, the workstation is designed in an arbitrary manner [1], giving little
consideration to the anthropometric measurements of the anticipated user. Small changes in
workstation dimension can have a considerable impact on worker productivity, and occupational
health and safety. Inadequate posture from an improperly designed workstation causes static

Reflection On The Lense Of Faith
We are told to follow the things that set our souls on fire. pressured to find something that brings
us more joy than anything else. We are barred at a young age with the responsibility of finding our
calling before we even know what it is. As a 15 year old girl, I didn t know where to find this fire
or even where to find my calling in the world. I was convinced one didn t exist, I was convinced
that it was me against the world. It was me against the 7 billion screaming people trying to find
their footing, and I felt like I didn t have a voice loud enough or feet big enough to ever do this. I
felt like the world was suffocating me and there was never going to be a chance for another breath
of air. All I could understand from the world, was we live, we suffer, we grow old and we die.
Through the lens of conformity, one blinded by worldly desires, it is incredible how much we
cannot see, and surprising how much we can see. But when we open our hearts and put on a lens
of faith we can slowly begin to see what has been in front of us all along. For me, this was a world
full of light, peace, and pure joy.
I first put on a lense of faith on May 14, 2016, my 16th birthday, when I first read the Book of
Mormon and went to church. I was later baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints on February 19, 2017.

they often feared to recon with.

Speech Codes Theory Essay
I.Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured
human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the
kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize
their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge
can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key
theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates
research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published
in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of
four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was
presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of
which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory
was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a
large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version
of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about
cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the
ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Some 250 of these studies were cited in

Recruiting The Best While Maximizing Their Talent
Recruiting the Best While Maximizing Their Talent What do firms need to do in order to bring
in the most talented people (from anywhere) and make the fullest possible use of their abilities?
America has legitimate concerns over the growing war for talent. It has reached global
proportions, as a number of high skilled immigrants who were educated in this country are now
embedded in key positions in corporate America s workforce, and are being drawn back to their
native countries. The fact of the matter is that a considerable amount of immigrants come here for
higher education. Half the Americans who won Nobel Prizes were born abroad. More than half of
the people with PhDs working in America are immigrants. (The Economist, 2006) These people
find themselves in corporate giants like Sun Microsystems, Google, and Intel. When countries like
China, actively try to attract back its expats through various strategies, this brings the scenario of
the brain drain to life. However, America has downplayed this fear. McKinsey Global Institute
conducted a study of the off shoring market and concluded that the number of service jobs moving
offshore is much lower than expected. It was feared that jobs in services will follow manufacturing
jobs that are now in the developing countries. Although competing countries in Europe have begun
to realize how it is important to retain talent, America has yet to up its tempo. Today, immigration
officials make it

Reform Movements During The 19th Century
Reform Movements During the 19th Century there were many reform movements that took place.
Reform movements were movements that were organized to reform or change the certain way of

nation operates today. There were three major reform movements that have altered the nation; the
abolitionist movement, the temperance movementand the women s suffrage movement. Without
these movements, and the great leaders involved, many common rights would not exist today. One

Another important reform movement was that of women suffrage. In the early 19th century,
married women could not enter into contracts without their husband s consent. Women also lost all
title to property or future earnings upon marriage. Children were also legally controlled by the
father. Women were also often left without protection against kidnapping or even imprisonment by
husbands and other male relatives. Women were also denied educational opportunities in a male
dominated society. There were many women involved in this movement but there were a significant
few who stood out. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized the Seneca Falls
Convention, and many other movements along with many papers and declarations calling for a
women s right to own property and to vote. Later the two formed the National Women s Suffrage
Association.
Over many years of protests and other movements laws were passed that granted women the right
to vote and own their own land. One major movement was the temperance movement. In colonial
America, informal social controls in the home and community helped maintain the expectation that
the abuse of alcohol was unacceptable. There was a clear consensus that while alcohol was a gift

Persuasive Essay On Medical Marijuana
In the United States, we have enacted various drug policies in order to prevent the damage that
would be caused by the harmful effects of drugs. Some are regulated by the government while
others are completely banned altogether. We fear the risk of the latter in particular, which
includes heavy and hard drugs like cocaine, methamphetamines, and heroin. However, as time
goes on, we change and so do our perspectives. We realize that some things are not as foreboding
as we once thought. These substances could actually be of benefit to our society and we inhibit its
ability to do so through the reinforcement of age old and faulty drug policy. This is the case with
cannabis, otherwise known as marijuana. As of now, it is illegal to buy, sell, possess, or use
marijuana in any shape or form, but with the times changing and medical marijuana becoming more
popular, the question remains: should marijuana be legalized all across the United Statesof
America? With the benefits it could bring with its social both concerning the issues around
harder drugs and prison overpopulation and medical uses, as well as its less harmful effects
when compared to the legal substances of tobacco and alcohol, marijuana could be a profitable
asset to our society if it were to be legalized, and I believe that we should strive for that outcome.

The Issue Of Texas Law Essay
ISSUES 1.Under Texas law, is a contract valid at the time it was created when a 16 year old is
involved in a contract with a production company, even though such contract is unenforceable? 2.If
so, under the same law, was interference of celebrity willful and intentional when celebrity did not
have knowing inducement? A.Under the same law, does a celebrity know or should have known
his contract with a production company breached the contract between the 16 year old and the
production company, when celebrity was not aware of the latter contract s exclusive term, and
celebrity knew the production company had contracted many artists in the past, even though
celebrity knew such contract existed? B.Also, under the same law, does celebrity induce a
production company when celebrity said the songs were studio ready, could beat the August
deadline, could start recording immediately, and negotiated better terms? BRIEF ANSWERS 1.Yes.
When a 16 year old enters to unenforceable contract with a production company, such contract is
valid at a sixteen year old s election. 2.Probably not. The test for whether celebrity s interference
was willful and intentional requires that celebrity has knowing inducement. A.The facts mentioned
above, are likely to persuade a court to hold that celebrity did not know or should have known his
contract with the production company breached the contract between the 16 year old and the
production company. B.A court will likely hold that

Leveraging Computer Technology for Literacy Instruction in...
Computer Based Reading Programs for At Risk Learners Children with disabilities face a variety
of challenges when learning to read. Some students experience processing disorders, some have
auditory or visual deficits, still others have gross or fine motor disabilities. Computer technology is
adept at addressing all of these issues by the nature of its flexible and extensible application. As a
relatively low cost solution for providing specialized instruction, integrating computer technology is
a particularly attractive solution for students with dyslexia and who are at risk for reading disorders
(Torgesen, Wagner, Rashotte, Herron, Lindamood, 2009). Torgesen, et al. (2009) further examined

Computer based reading software is most helpful for students with learning disabilities when it
provides supplemental practice, applies proven reading strategies, and offers immediate and
consistent feedback (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). With these criteria in mind, computer
assisted instruction is beneficial for at risk students by providing activities that can be
motivational and provide positive reinforcement. By allowing at risk students to work at their
own pace, computer assisted instructional software can provide the additional practice these
students need to help build automaticity (Hook McCabe, 2006). Another use for computer
assisted instruction with exceptional learners is in the area of increasing on task behavior.
Particularly effective for students with ADHD, adding CAI elements to their reading program
has been correlated to an increase in oral fluency and a decrease in off task behavior (Clarfield,
Stoner, 2005). On task behavior is essential for both at risk readers and students with ADHD in
order to absorb the initial skills necessary for acquiring literacy. Generally speaking, primary
instruction in phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle is not sufficient for many students
to achieve fluency and comprehension (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). Well designed and
appropriately interactive computer based programs that provide supplemental skill practice can help
keep students with ADHD and other off task behaviors engaged while

Autobiography Of African Americans
Introduction
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines African American, as an American who has African and
especially black African ancestry. Being born in the United States and being American I have
always been classified as African American, because my skin was dark, my hair was tightly coiled
and because my parents were black. As a black child growing up here believed I was African
American because my parent were African. I knew Africafrom the Lion King and National
Geography. I knew of the music because it played on a loop in our Georgia home, when I was
trying to watch Disney or Nickelodeon. I knew of the food, because I was made to eat it instead of
McDonalds. So to me, Africa and Africans where distant, it belonged in the world of fairytales....

She asked if the name Fa is popular in America, like the name Awa is in Gambia, I said no, she
was surprise that I did not know anyone with the same name as me. I explained to her that Fa
was short for Fatou. With this revelation, Awa jumped up and hugged me and said that I was
Gambia like her, just born in America. I was confused, I tried to explain that I was just
American, and in America I was African American because my parents are from Gambia but not
me. She went quiet for a minute and then she shook her head, and said that I did not understand,
she asked if I spoke Wolof, I said yes, she asked if I liked the game Acara, I said yes, she asked
what my favorite food was, I answered Benachin, and then she asked like Bisap (the hibiscus tea),
I said yes. She conclude that since I answered yes to all her questions then I am Gambian too.
What she said may not have seem much at the moment, but for the first time since arriving in
Gambia, I felt like I belonged. From then on, the term African American meant something
completely different to me. I embraced it fully, because to me it meant that I am African because I
have lived and had significant life experiences in Africa. I understand and embody many African
values, as well as the American values that I was born with.

How Did Ray Charles Go Deaf
Hit the Road Jack , a classic song from the most beloved singer in history, Ray Charles. Along
with being a singer, songwriter and musician, Ray Charles was very famous. Ray had always
wanted to be a singer. That had been his dream that affected the course of his life. He went to
Florida s school for deaf and blind. Well, Ray Charleswas not deaf, but he got very ill from a
disease called Glaucoma , which made him to start going blind. That is why his mom took him to
that school.
Ray Charles lived in Albany, Georgia in the United States, and he was born on September 23,
1930. He lived a very good life, and his dad worked as a mechanic and handyman ,and his mom
worked at a sawmill. He had lived a good life until the age of 5 when he started to go blind. After
2 years of going blind, Ray went completely blind. After that moment of life his family was just in
shock even though they knew it was going to happen. Ray appreciated how his mother got him

was a young kid and he went to a school to help him get back on his feet. Blindness did really
effect Ray Charles because he could not see anything and writing and trying to sing music could
have been real tough for him. He even had to get an eye removed. After he left the blind school,
he persevered. He started listening to music, and that was when he said I wanted to be a singer.
Music was his passion. After he graduated with the school he had started traveling with western
bands hearing how they sing and what they do. Then he started touring with blue band and working

Lady Macbeth Is Essentially the Villain in Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is the true villain of the play as she is evil,
ambitious and eventually insane. Lady Macbeth masterminded the idea to kill King Duncan and
planted the vision into Macbeths mind, she convinced Macbeth to commit such a crime, and her
love for her husband was eventually overruled by her determination and lust for power. Throughout
the play she starts to show her true colours and the destructive force of her ambition, which
inevitably results in nothing but disaster. Lady Macbeth is essentially an evil woman. She
condones the death of innocent people and even wishes she were a man so she could commit
murder herself. The idea to murder King Duncan was thought of by no other than Lady Macbeth,...

self motivated. She played on his weaknesses and insecurities, which was fueled by her lust for
power and insanity. Lady Macbeth is the true villain as she was Macbeths perfect accomplice. Laura

Chang Yu i s Struggle With Identity Are you are confused as to where you are going in life? Do
you sometimes feel like you just do not know who you are, or who you want to be? Do not
worry, this is not uncommon. In fact, according to psychoanalyst Erik Erickson (1902 1994),
most young people ages fifteen to twenty years of age feel the same way. Erickson, a
psychoanalytic theorist, took the human life cycle and categorized it into eight stages. One such
stage would be identity versus role confusion. During this stage, adolescents begin to truly form
who they are in life. They form their present off of the good and bad experiences of their past.
Erickson believes that the stages in the life cycle apply to nearly everyone. It does not... Show more

Finally her sibling Second Brother went to their mother and told her to stop. Her mother did not
want to hurt Yu i, but felt that if Yu i did not have beautiful bound feet, she would not find a
suitable husband. Only when Second Brother promised to take care of Yu i should she need to be
taken care of did their mother relent. Though her mother relented, many people, especially the
elders, thought that bound feet were still necessary to find a good husband. Although Yu i was
happy with her bound feet, many others had mixed feelings about them. This added to the difficulty
of finding herself as Yu i grew up and tried to become her own person. Another change was the
education of women. The education of women in China was viewed as unimportant. A woman s
job was to serve her husband, and she did not need to know the Confucian classics to do that.
Growing up,Yu i had a desire to learn, although she did not know where she got it from. Of the
four girls in the family, I was the one who cared the most about education, even from the very
beginning. (Chang, 56). Though she was the only girl in her family who desired to learn, many
other women of her generation also were starting to become educated. This was another change for
China, and another sign showing how important the Western world was becoming. Although Yu i
could not say for certain where her love of education came from, she did believe that it had
something to do with how much she respected her Second and Fourth

70 years ago, Edward Sapir introduced a new concept of linguistics. He said that language moved
on every time and then created their own forms and never static. Every word, every grammatical
element, proverbs, sounds and accents configured which was changed slowly and this was the
ways how a language could long lasting. This concept of language made the other linguists
interested. The change of meaning could happen because of some reasons, according to Millet a

The name of action or event can be transferred into something that predate and follow the change.
For example, in English, collation now defined into different meaning perbandingan and makanan
ringan where as both of them are relates. Previously, in Catholic ceremony the reading from
Collationes Patrum by Cassian usually read before the end of mass, it followed by snack which
called collation because the snack related with the reading. So, the name of book followed by the
snack that also consume in the close time in mass period. Third, the relation can create the change
of metonymy, there are some part that is important but sometime it divide into own category, or we
can call it pars pro toto. For example in Indonesia, pasukan baju kuning it refers to the group who
clean up the road. And the last metonymy is simple and famous because we don t need the worst
and crucial speech. We know that most of the founder named something which they found by their
name. For example, the terminology in electricity ampere, volt, ohm named by the founder Andre
Ampere, Count Allessandro Volta, and Georg Simon Ohm. 3. Popular Etymology Etymology is the
branch of linguistics that studies the origin and development of words and other linguistic forms.
The examples of the areas that are studied include the earliest origins of a word, how its meanings
and connotations have changed, the meanings and origins of its component parts, whether or how it

ABSTRACT
This study deals with the reliability, availability, and busy period characteristics of single unit
system. On failure of the system, if system can be repaired in short time then repair will be
continued, otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside
is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation and an expert repairman is called for fast
repair of the unit. Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, expressions for
the mean time to system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system
are derived using linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system
is discussed in which substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed
graphically to observe the effect of the proposed system on Availability.
Keywords: Availability, Linear first order differential equation, Mean Time to System Failure,
Reliability, Steady State Availability.
1) INTRODUCTION
Competition exists in every field, to keep ahead a major challenge is availability improvement of a
system, as less availability has negative impact. People often use availability and reliability
interchangeably. In fact, however, the two terms are related but have

Amerika Power
In Franz Kafka s Amerika, there is a clear theatre of power displayed throughout the captain s
office scene, through the use of a tableau on page eleven. Within this tableau Kafka uses the
description of each character s appearance, and actions which allows for readers to distinguish
who holds the most power, and visualize the hierarchy of power. When Karl first enters the room,
the first people readers are introduced within the tableau are the three men sitting at a round table.
The two men wearing black are described as port authority, while the sole person in blue is an
officer on the ship. By just introducing these characters first, one can conclude that these men are of
the lowest level of power within the room: seeing that they are the easiest to access. When one
walks into the room nothing stands in between these men except for a table that is piled high with
documents. The narrator states that the officer views these documents then them hands off to the
two men in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It stated that there is a window in between the bursar, and the two noblemen, which makes these
two the least accessible people within the room; similar to that of kings who are the hardest to
reach. Nonetheless, through the use of their descriptions, it becomes even more clear the power
they possess. When speaking about the clothing of the two, the captain of the ship is described
as wearing a ship uniform with a slew of medals on his chest which are all visual symbols of
authority and power. Meanwhile, the senator is the only person within the room wearing casual
clothes, and this shows that he is the pinnacle of power. Unlike everyone else, the senator does
not have to participate in the tableau of power, rather everyone is already aware of his status
which allows him to be within an elite space and not have to prove his

  • 2. Binge Eating in Non-Western Cultures Literature regarding eating disorders in non Western cultures in general is scarce. Very few studies address disordered eating in cultures outside of the Western and Westernized world. This could be because of the perceived lack of eating disorders in non industrialized countries or even because there is an overwhelming amount of concern over eating disorders in Western society. However, there have been several studies done on binge eating and dietary restraint in non western citizens and in non Caucasian women in the United States. Women who are not from a Caucasian background face different societal and traditional pressures than do Caucasian women in Western cultures, but some of the women in those cultures were found to have binge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A major way in which they express this negative self perception is to restrain their diets or binge eat (Eating Disorders Review, 2007, 5). Many cultures idealize robust women and practice feasting as a common social practice. However, women feel pressured by the stick thin images they see on Western influenced television advertisements to lose weight or look more conventionally attractive by Western standards. They feel torn between participating in their traditional custom and looking like the women they see idealized in the media. They feel guilt and embarrassment about overeating but participate in it as part of the cultural norm. (Becker, 2003, 430) Women who feel shame about eating are also less likely to seek help for their eating disorders, and this shame has been found to be more prevalent in women from non Western ethnicities living in the Western world. Women from different ethnicities experience guilt and a fear of losing control while eating at different levels. Asian and Native American women are the most likely to feel embarrassed about overeating or losing control while eating (Eating Disorders Review, 2007, 5). They are therefore the least likely to seek help for their binge eating disorders. Healthcare providers should take ethnicity into account when determining causal factors of binge eating in women from Asian and Native American cultures because they are more ... Tristan Social Norms Also Tristan may imply that even though love has an uncontrollable and powerful control, it doesn t come without a cost, as when Marke finds out of the relationship between Tristan and Isolde, Tristan is forced to flee to Normandy (Von Strassburg 284)4. Tristan finally represents the change of social norms in the twelfth century. One major change of the social norm would be the quest of real love rather than arranged marriages. Isolde and Marke s marriage was a literal arranged marriage, and as it was shown in the romance, neither one of them were truly happy. With true love of Isolde and Marke, they were much happier. The phases in the process of feature selectionare given as follows: 1. Starting Point, 2. Search Strategy, 3. Subset Evaluation, 4. Stopping Criteria. I RELIEF approach reduces the biasness of original RELIEF method. Conditional Mutual Information Maximization (CMIM) is the one that chooses a feature subset that has maximum relevance to the target class by using conditional mutual information. CMIM requires both the feature values and output classes to be binary (Diman Todorov et.al,2014). Correlation Coefficient approach evaluates how well an individual feature contributes to the separation of classes. Ranking criteria is used to rank all features using their mean and standard deviation for all the samples of both classes. The correlation coefficient is successfully reduced the number of features and also kept good classification accuracy (Zong Xia et.al,2006). Between Within Ratio (BW ratio) uses the ratio between group to within group sums of squares for each feature, and select feature with maximum BW ratio. A single variable can be considered irrelevant based on its correlation to the class, but when combines with other features in the feature space, it becomes very relevant (Z. Zhao et.al, 2007). Genetic Algorithm is a randomized approach. • 6. The Effects Of Bpa On Human Health Bisphenol A, commonly referred to as BPA, is a synthetic carbon compound present in consumer plastic products. These products include water bottles, food containers, canned foods coated with protective linings, and shopping receipts. According to the CDC, 93% of Americans have traces of BPA chemicals present in their urine samples. This has recently attracted attention in the media because BPA is linked with a plethora of potential health hazards; such as the development of cancer, diabetes, asthma, and disruptions in the endocrine system. Scientists currently focus on the estrogenic activity caused by levels of BPA chemicals found in consumer plastic products, and are concerned about the potential negative effects on human health. This concern is based studies which have shown disruptions in the reproductive and endocrine systems of laboratory rats (Vinas and Watson 2013). The estrogenic properties of the compound BPA were first discovered by British medical researcher Edward Charles Dodds in the 1930s. Dodds aimed to create a drug that could be used to treat problems relating to pregnancy symptoms, menopause, menstruation, and the prevention of miscarriages. Although BPA was not successful in the medical industry, around the same time, chemists in Switzerland and the United States discovered that BPA could be made into epoxy resins. This new discovery quickly became popular in the industrial production industries for uses such as piping, adhesives, and protective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We usually over emphasize what we want our children to learn. It seems that Miyazaki followed this pattern in his film Spirited Away, specifically in his character Chihiro. In the story Chihiro gives 110%. She is always humble and willing to do anything with very little personal gain involved. Chihiro is a very idealistic representation of how to be selfless, which is not possible to apply to real life. Modern culture has a strong opinion on being selfish versus being selfless. There is a chance she will not make it back to her parents and go home. Now she does have some personal gain due to her love for Haku, but the risk of never returning home displays how selfless she can be. Chihiro is willing to throw away chances of going home on the slight change that she can save her friend. She does not stop there, she brings along the monster, No face, who was terrorizing the bath house. She not only does something for little gain, but changes others for the better in the process. The Cherokee language is classified linguistically as a member of the Iroquoian family, spoken by the Cherokee people, originally inhabiting Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee. As a consequence of colonization, however, the Cherokeenation almost suffered destruction during the infamous Trail of Tears, 1838 1839, the forced removal of more than fifteen thousand people. Now, in the twenty first century, the Cherokee make up one of the biggest Native American tribes within the U.S. with over 300,000 members. (Matthew 20:28). I am blessed to have been a part of the Superintendent s Leadership Program (SLP) Batch 2 of the Department of Education in partnership with De La Salle University, the Philippines Australia Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF), Eugenio Lopez Center (ELC) and Knowledge Channel. According to Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC, SLP is a journey with the generals expected to be the frontliners of the entire transformation initiative of the department. Eugenio Lopez Center is the place for that dream to transform the kind of education we have in the Philippines. I could vividly remember that statement and it has moved me to give my best as a Schools Division Superintendent of the Schools Division of Bayawan City. No matter how small that city division maybe, but if it will have the great leadership, it will make the difference. According to Maxwell, everything falls and rises in leadership ( Maxwell,2007). Perhaps our greatest power in life is the power to choose. Without question, choices are the most determining factor in how our lives turn out. ( Maxwell,2007). • 16. A Positive Performance Analysis Three positive things about my performance I thought were my calming voice, reflection on topic of discussion and body gestures. Throughout my presentation I thought that my voice was reassuring to listen to and not over enthusiastic. I think that throughout my intake interview it was important for me to think of myself of being in the position of talking normally to a friend and I think that showed through my performance. In contrast, during my conversation with my friend Sarah, I asked her questionsin regards to how her disorder has impacted her leisure lifestyle, what activities she likes to do and what activities she would like to try doing throughout her sessions. I listened to her as she gave her responses and I thought that I did well at asking her further questions and confronting certain topics to betterunderstand her point of view. I then reflect off that by reiterating what she had previously said, but stated it in a different way. I thought this was beneficial because I overall felt more comfortable asking her more questions, which lead to a deeper conversation. Lastly, I thought my non verbal skills were relaxed, I remained engaged throughout the conversation with eye contact and the distance between us was at a comfortable place. Generally, I feel like I had a positive performance because I have done a similar interviewing project in the past and I think that I was naturally able to have a conversation. These misconceptions have been tied to possible sources of skepticism such as illusions of understanding, psychology s problematic public face, and individual s hindsight bias (Lilienfeld, 2012). This skepticism must exist for a reason and it is crucial to understand why the general public finds behavioral scienceresearch less credible than that of other scientific disciplines often described as harder sciences. Researchers have found that about 30% of blood proteins are also present in saliva, as well as containing hormones, antibodies that are also measured during the blood analyzes [2,9]. The similarities of components present in both blood and saliva allows the saliva to be an alternative for blood test in many cases. While blood test has been the most common method used when trying to determine the diagnostics of diseases. Blood analysis looks at compounds as they travel through the blood serum, most of which are protein bound, while saliva analysis looks at the compounds at the cellular level (the biologically active compounds) and therefore saliva is truly a representative of what is clinically relevant [2]. Many healthcare providers are using saliva analysis before continuing further with blood analysis. One of the advantage of saliva test as a diagnostic tool is the elimination of potential risk of contracting infectious disease as the risk involved with blood test. Compared to blood analysis, saliva has several key advantages including easy sample collection and processing, low cost, noninvasiveness and efficient method. • 23. The Importance Of Voter Participation In Canada Elections are the most vital mechanism for a democracy since it is the role of the citizens to elect the representatives of their government. As one of the most established democracies, Canada had been experiencing decreasing participation in its elections. In 2008, voter turnout in Canada hit its lowest point at an average of 58.8%, keeping in mind that the average voter turnoutin Canada has been 70.7% (Canada, 2017). Even though there may not be one coherent explanation, there are a few predictors that could justify the decline in Canada s voter turnout. Firstly, political interest is essential in motivating citizens to participate in politics, and the least informed citizens are the less motivated they are to participate. Secondly, personal barriers such as age, gender, race, language and socio economic status play a major role as a determinant for the participation in elections. Finally, Canada s current electoral process the system in which citizens use to cast their votes is a factor that may deter participants from votingbecause of its cited weaknesses. For instance, the current system has brought into question its lack of democracy and representation. Therefore, while participation in federal elections is essential to a functioning democracy, there has been a decline in voter turnout due to lack of political interest, personal barriers, and the electoral process. Political interest is a highly important motivator for the participation in federal elections. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Recruiting The Best While Maximizing Their Talent Recruiting the Best While Maximizing Their Talent What do firms need to do in order to bring in the most talented people (from anywhere) and make the fullest possible use of their abilities? America has legitimate concerns over the growing war for talent. It has reached global proportions, as a number of high skilled immigrants who were educated in this country are now embedded in key positions in corporate America s workforce, and are being drawn back to their native countries. The fact of the matter is that a considerable amount of immigrants come here for higher education. Half the Americans who won Nobel Prizes were born abroad. More than half of the people with PhDs working in America are immigrants. (The Economist, 2006) These people find themselves in corporate giants like Sun Microsystems, Google, and Intel. When countries like China, actively try to attract back its expats through various strategies, this brings the scenario of the brain drain to life. However, America has downplayed this fear. McKinsey Global Institute conducted a study of the off shoring market and concluded that the number of service jobs moving offshore is much lower than expected. It was feared that jobs in services will follow manufacturing jobs that are now in the developing countries. In the early 19th century, married women could not enter into contracts without their husband s consent. Women also lost all title to property or future earnings upon marriage. Children were also legally controlled by the father. Women were also often left without protection against kidnapping or even imprisonment by husbands and other male relatives. Women were also denied educational opportunities in a male dominated society. There were many women involved in this movement but there were a significant few who stood out. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized the Seneca Falls Convention, and many other movements along with many papers and declarations calling for a women s right to own property and to vote. Later the two formed the National Women s Suffrage Association. Over many years of protests and other movements laws were passed that granted women the right to vote and own their own land. One major movement was the temperance movement. In colonial America, informal social controls in the home and community helped maintain the expectation that the abuse of alcohol was unacceptable. Some are regulated by the government while others are completely banned altogether. We fear the risk of the latter in particular, which includes heavy and hard drugs like cocaine, methamphetamines, and heroin. However, as time goes on, we change and so do our perspectives. We realize that some things are not as foreboding as we once thought. These substances could actually be of benefit to our society and we inhibit its ability to do so through the reinforcement of age old and faulty drug policy. This is the case with cannabis, otherwise known as marijuana. As of now, it is illegal to buy, sell, possess, or use marijuana in any shape or form, but with the times changing and medical marijuana becoming more popular, the question remains: should marijuana be legalized all across the United Statesof America? With the benefits it could bring with its social both concerning the issues around harder drugs and prison overpopulation and medical uses, as well as its less harmful effects when compared to the legal substances of tobacco and alcohol, marijuana could be a profitable asset to our society if it were to be legalized, and I believe that we should strive for that outcome. Some students experience processing disorders, some have auditory or visual deficits, still others have gross or fine motor disabilities. As a relatively low cost solution for providing specialized instruction, integrating computer technology is a particularly attractive solution for students with dyslexia and who are at risk for reading disorders (Torgesen, Wagner, Rashotte, Herron, Lindamood, 2009). Computer based reading software is most helpful for students with learning disabilities when it provides supplemental practice, applies proven reading strategies, and offers immediate and consistent feedback (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). With these criteria in mind, computer assisted instruction is beneficial for at risk students by providing activities that can be motivational and provide positive reinforcement. By allowing at risk students to work at their own pace, computer assisted instructional software can provide the additional practice these students need to help build automaticity (Hook McCabe, 2006). Another use for computer assisted instruction with exceptional learners is in the area of increasing on task behavior. Particularly effective for students with ADHD, adding CAI elements to their reading program has been correlated to an increase in oral fluency and a decrease in off task behavior (Clarfield, Stoner, 2005). On task behavior is essential for both at risk readers and students with ADHD in order to absorb the initial skills necessary for acquiring literacy. Generally speaking, primary instruction in phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle is not sufficient for many students to achieve fluency and comprehension (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). Well designed and appropriately interactive computer based programs that provide supplemental skill practice can help keep students with ADHD and other off task behaviors engaged while ... On failure of the system, if system can be repaired in short time then repair will be continued, otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation and an expert repairman is called for fast repair of the unit. Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, expressions for the mean time to system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system are derived using linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system is discussed in which substitute system was not considered.
