Auditing Principle Paper
Auditing Principle
This report asks the author of this paper to answer to several questions pertaining to the demise of
One.Tel in 2001. The author if asked to explain the role of external auditors in the collapse and how
the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders likely figured into that collapse and the auditor
malfeasance that led to the same. The author is asked to give two recommendations regarding the
changing of the existing requirements for auditing standards as a means to close the audit
expectation gap.
Cause of One.Tel Collapse
It is clear from the data that BDO Nelson Parkhill (BDNP) and One.Tel had a very odd and
controversial relationship, and there are two major reasons for saying that. First, the regulatory
bodies in Australia pointed to some major issues with the fiscal and accounting reporting for
One.Tel for the years running from 1997 to 2000, the last few years before One.Tel s collapse, to
the extent that there were 48 different items or action flagged as being deficient or suspect. BDNP
was fined $48,000, in part for some very questionable accounting which included about $40 million
in deferred expenditures and about the same amount of concealed debt (Monem, 2011).
Another red flag that went up with the One.Tel/BDNP relationship is that the former was paying
a substantial amount of its fees to BDNP in the form of non audit services (NAS). In fact roughly
half of the fees paid to BDNP from 1997 to 2000 were for things other than

The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall Analysis
The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, a short story by Katherine Anne Porter, describes the last
thoughts, feelings, and memories of an elderly woman. The importance of the title becomes
obvious as Granny Weatherall s life flashes before her eyes. She is an 80 year old woman who is
bedridden, stubborn, sick, and in denial. She has four children one of whom had passed away:
Lydia, Cornelia, Jimmy, and Haps. Critics agree that there is no sign from God that her soul will
be accepted into heaven. Granny Weatherall expects a sign from God, but overlooks it when it is
given. Granny undeniably gets a sign from God; however, she overlooks this sign because it is
Hapsy her last born daughter that had passed away.
Granny has flash backs of her life that goes as far back as 60 years. Hapsy was the one that
Granny wanted. Did you send for Hapsy to? (68) As Granny Weatherall moves closer to death her
thoughts become more scattered. Making connections with her thoughts is possible to conclude
that Hapsy is her favorite daughter that she longs to see once again. Hapsy had been her last born
child, that had passed away. Hapsy melted from within and turned flimsy as gray gauze and the
baby was a gauzy shadow, and Hapsy came up close and said, I thought you d never come, and
looked at her very searchingly and said, You haven t changed a bit! (68) Granny imagines telling
Hapsy many things in Heaven, that she was not able to do so here on earth. Granny was
searching for Hapsy. She had to go long way back through many great rooms to find Hapsy
standing with a baby on her arm. (68) Hapsy was Granny s sign from Christ, but because Granny
overlooked this it is a sign of the rejection of the jilting Granny Weather Courageously faced.
Granny has been through several triumphs in her life. She was about to marry George and he left
her at the altar. After that happened she married and her husband John which passed away. She
learned to be an independent woman that did not rely on anyone. She had fenced in a hundred
acres once, digging the post holes herself and clamping the wires with just a negro boy to help.
(67) She did both chores that the woman and the man would do. At the end, Granny blew out the
light in fear of

Judith Ortiz Cofer s Short Story Volar
Every author writes his or her wok with a certain aim or goal that he or she would like to
achieve. Some of the aims for writing include entertainment, to educate or to simply tell the
author s story. Judith Ortiz Cofer s short story, Volar is an example of a short story written for
the purpose of telling one s story. Cofer, gives an account of her family s, her mother to be
precise, as well as her dreams, which raises the concerns of a story characterized by constant exit
from reality and entry into dreams. As a result, this paper aims at giving an account, based on the
short storyVolar by Judith Ortiz Cofer, of dreams versus reality. In the event of picturing the
American dream, many people have this concrete picture or idea of perfection and a life well
lived. However, the same is not true for every family, which is portrayed by Cofer in Volar, which
means to fly, thus the discussion, dreams versus reality.
An article by Jenniffer L. Hochschild decribes the American dream as follows, The idea of the
American dream has been attached to everything from religious freedom to a home in the
surbubs...a world where anything can happen and good things might. (15). In her book, Hochschild
portrays the speaker s, the little girl in the short story, American dream, which she is unlikely to
ever achieve due to her present circumstances. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The short story s title Volar appears to have different meanings throughout the story. While in her
dreams, the little girl appears to be quite literally flying. When the little girl s father tells her
mother that they cannot afford to fly to Puerto Rico, her mother expresses disappointment when
she says, Ay, si yo pudiera volar (Cofer,279). The mother s phrase can be taken literary to mean
the mother wishes they could fly to Puerto Rico. It can also be taken in an abstract way to mean
the mother and girl s wishes to escape the world they live

Prostate Cancer Screening
A Literature Review of the Journal Club Article Entitled Facilitating Shared Decision Making
About Prostate Cancer Screening Among African American Men According to the ACS Statistics
of cancer incidence rates among US males for 2003 2007, prostate cancer occurs more commonly
in African American men than in white males (ACS, 2011 2012). Therefore, it is not only essential,
but also vital to increase knowledge on the subject matter, raise general awareness, and promote
shared decision making about screening and testing procedures. The authors of this academic paper
had realized how important prostate cancerscreening among African American men is, and thus
their main objective was to initiate a scientific Prostate CancerScreening Decision... Show more

The Iowa model was specifically indented to be used by nurses and other healthcare professionals
because it assisted them during various intervention stages, such as development and
implementation, as said caregivers provided key knowledge to individuals about disease risks and
decision making tools. The non clinical nature of the setting was well chosen, and it directly
correlated with the HBM, since church attending men would be more morally obligated to take
preventive action, and receive timely treatment if they had any health concerns. In addition, the
church setting was an appropriate venue, and it was relevant to the Community Empowerment
Model because it allowed for direct interaction with community leaders, such as pastors, to build
strong lasting relationships with them. The combination of the three above mentioned models has
led to the development of this successful method that have encouraged men to execute easily
prostate cancer screening decisions, and to become more perceptive and aware of their health and
welfare, while developing strong therapeutic relationships with individuals outside the sanctuaries,
such as oncology nurses. Ultimately, the union of these three methods has

Improving Health, Education, And The Environment
The MDGs identify and quantify specific gains that could be made to improve the lives of the
world s poor people. Their aim is to reduce poverty while improving health, education, and the
environment. These goals were endorsed by 189 countries at the September 2000 UN Millennium
General Assembly in New York. They focus on significant, measurable improvements for the efforts
of the World BankGroup, governments, other international organizations, and other partners in the
developmentcommunity. The MDGs grew out of the agreements and resolutions that have resulted
from world conferences organized by the UN in the past 10 15 years. Each goal is to be achieved
by 2015, with progress to be measured by comparison with 1990 levels. Although the... Show more

But providing assistance isn t limited to providing financial aid. Developing countries may also
benefit if trade barriers are lowered, hence allowing a freer exchange of goods and services.
Achieving the goals is an enormous challenge. Partnerships between the Bank Group, the UN
Development Group (UNDG), and other organizations, as well as between donors and developing
countries, are the only way to ensure coordinated and complementary efforts. The UNDG consists
of the many UN programs, funds, and agencies engaged in development assistance and related
activities. The Bank Group participates in the UNDG and supports its framework for greater
coherence and cooperation in UN development operations.
Strategic Framework
The Bank Group s strategic framework concentrates on the twin pillars of:
1.building an appropriate climate for investment, jobs, and sustainable growth so that economies
will grow,
2.Investing in and empowering poor people to participate in development.
In recent years, the executive directors have underscored the continued relevance of these
priorities, have reaffirmed the need for selectivity in the Bank Group s work, and have called for
greater collaboration with development partners. In order focus on those pillars, the executive
directors have standardized the operational policies, practices and procedures. Furthermore, they
have discussed the needs of meeting requests of low income, heavily indebted and fragile countries.

Differences Between Daoism And Confucianism
It is a well known fact that in order to survive, civilizations must change; they cannot remain
stagnant forever. These changes allow a society to grow and develop which is crucial as new
breakthroughs can lift up a civilization from a place of oppression and boundaries into a more
equal and freeing place. However, long held customs or behaviors may be persistent with the
lifespan of a society. Typical behavior can last centuries, but sometimes a small break will occur
where a new change is tested out only to be reverted back to the previous arrangement. During the
time period 100 C.E. to 600 C.E classical chinese civilizationwitnessed a change of spirituality that
disrupted the traditional social system. However, despite this, China upheld... Show more content on

One example being it s consistent policy of a civil service test that allows a person to become a
government official. This extensive test was special to China as compared to the Roman Empire a
position of power is given to one who has the desire to help his community, not to one who has
wealth and aristocratic titles. Despite going through many leaders and several dynasties, the
political system remained strong and intact with this practice of choosing officials. The mandate of
heaven was strong as well, giving leaders their power along with support from their followers. The
political structure of Chinese culture remained persistent as well, an ode to the structure of their
political system. Because their basis was so well thought out and organized, it didn t need to be
altered or changed much with each new ruler. While Chinese culture was open to some changes, it s
political system hadn t the need to be changed. An intricate system of testing potential government
officials, the civil service exam proved to be unique to chinese culture; a testament to the
organization that went into their political system and future political candidates. The few changes
made to the political structure is proof enough that the early Chinese civilization can be considered
a resilient society that understood that a strong

Marketing Plan for an Existing Business
Executive Summary
Dragonfly Designs already offers custom made items and now we would like to expand our
product lines and offer do it yourself items. Our existing location can be renovated to add the
space needed for this service. We would also like to build a new facility with a larger work area
for the do it yourself projects and kilns in the back area. The back area would be large enough to
hold the inventory for both store locations. To accomplish these objectives, land needs to be found
and purchased for the new facility. Bank financing is necessary for the building of this new
facility but not needed for the renovations at our existing location. Dragonfly Designs would also

also plan to open an area in our shop to offer different art classes and do it yourself project
options. We plan to buy some of the artwork made there by local artists and sell it in the
showroom. We would like to start this service within the next 60 days. These goals will allow us
to obtain the total revenue increase of 25% this year we are aiming for.
Core Competency
There is only one store within a 60 mile radius that handles stained glass and there is no place that
handles porcelain designs locally. To be competitive on the Internet, price is key in getting
customers to purchase from us. A user friendly website also helps in increasing purchase orders.
Our original designs and made toВ–order products help to ensure satisfaction. Our shipping
program is a big draw for consumers. Since the shipping is included in the price of the product,
many consumers choose us over the competition.
Situation Analysis
Internal Focus
We have several strengths within our company. There are not many other businesses of our type in
this area. Our pricing can be higher since our product is custom made for the individual. We have
low overhead and do not need much space to manufacture our products. Our company is also able
to handle repairs in our own shop. Our artists are all skilled craftsmen from various backgrounds

Go Set A Watchman By Harper Lee
Synopsis Harper Lee s novel, Go Set a Watchman, tells the story of the 26 year old Jean Louise
as she gains awareness of her father s flaws and becomes a more independent and flexible person.
During the novel s exposition, Jean Louise is on a train returning to her hometown, Maycomb, to
visit her aging father, Atticus. Upon returning home, Jean Louise quickly gets into an argument
with her aunt, Alexandra, over trivial matters. The two continue to bicker at each other until
Atticus intervenes. While Jean Louise finds it extremely frustrating that her aunt is never able to
understand her point of view, she finds comfort believing that Maycomb has remained the same
since she last left. The narrative hook occurs when Jean Louise is informed of the changes that
have taken place in Maycomb. A notable example is when Henry Clinton, Jean s old friend,
informs her that her family sold Finch s Landing to a club. Jean is surprised at this and expresses
her displeasure at her world changing by stating; I just don t like my world disturbed without some
warning... (Lee 75). Many of the changes don t hinder Jean, but she is still bothered by the fact that
her world is changing without her knowledge. During the rising action, Jean Louise discovers a
racist pamphlet owned by her father. She confronts Alexandra about it, and her aunt informs her
that Atticus had brought it home from the citizen s council meeting. Mortified, Jean Louise goes to
the meeting to find Atticus and Henry

Is it better to be a dead hero or a forgotten bystander? In Antigone, one of Sophocles three Theban
plays, the actions of Antigone, one of Oedipus daughters, take center stage. After the death of her
brothers, Antigone defies both the decree by Creon, the leader of Thebes, and wishes of her sister,
Ismene, to bury her brother according to Ancient Greek funeral rites. After being captured, Antigone
is sentenced to death and ultimately hangs herself, as her fiancГ© and his mother both kill

Spain played a particularly large role during the early years of the nation, with England and France
also attempting to impose their will upon the Dutch. Victories against the Spaniards in the
decades following 1587 claimed many lands and helped to separate the Dutch as an
independently governed nation. Recognition by the English and French of Holland as individual
also helped this cause. From 1621 1648 the Dutch were once again at war with Spain. At the
onset of this war, the outcome did not look well for the Netherlands, as Spain had captured Breda,
an important fortress in the south. Following this, however, the Dutch began to take back key
pieces of land in the south and had several pivotal naval victories against the Spanish. Included in
these naval victories were Piet Heyn s celebrated capture of the Spanish silver fleet, off the coast of
Cuba, and the destruction of a Spanish fleet in the Downs, off the English coast (Michael J. Wintle,
n.d.). Following the signing of a treaty in 1648, the Spaniards now formally recognized the
Netherlands as an independent state. The Dutch once again experienced naval success in the 1670s
against French forces. This time, the Netherlands succeeded in driving away France, and pushing
England out of its territories. Throughout the next century, or more, the Dutch clashed with French,

Bilbo Themes
J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit has often been regarded as one of the greatest fantasy stories. A
majority of the appeal of The Hobbit lies in the fact that it is, at its very core, a story about the
journey of a seemingly ordinary hero. The story may appeal to children because even on a
surface level, it is a story about the fantastical adventures once can have if they leave the comfort
of their home. However, it is also a journey from past to present; it shows how the richness of the
tradition of the past has a lot to teach us, and it tells us to live in the present with both the lessons
of the past enriching our experience, but also to consider what the future can hold for us. However,
the most essential journey in The Hobbitis the journey... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wondered whether he ought not, now he had a magic ring, to go back into the horrible, horrible

powerful magic objects in the story, he still feels a sense of duty towards the dwarves, one that
goes beyond the contract he signed to help them on their question. In contrast, Thorin is highly
unable to look beyond the contract, as he feels betrayed when Bilbo takes the Arkenstone and
gives it to the elves and men to make peace (252). The dwarves have sense of loyalty and
community towards each other, but that does not extend to Bilbo, as he gives away what Thorin
most wants and therefore, betrays him by breaching their contract. While Bilbo grows to value the
dwarves friendship, the dwarves are narrow minded because they only see Bilbo as a means to an
end and call him a thief and burglar when he betrays

The Relation Between Genetics And Physiology And Medicine
Thomas H. Morgan: The relation of genetics to physiology and medicine.
Genetics is the study of how hereditary characteristics or genes are inherited. The studies of
genetics have first been recognized by Gregor Mendel. Gregor Mendel studied how traits were
passed down from parent to offspring using pea plants. It was later discovered that Mendel s law
of inheritance not only worked for pea plants but also on, animals and humans. Mendel s
experiments gave rise to the importance of chromosomes in genetic experiments, crossing over,
and linkage. Thomas H. Morgan experimented on Drosophila melanogaster, fruit flies to give
further analysis of Mendel s two laws of inheritance. Morgan s work have been recognized for
discovery of sex linked genes and the importance of understanding genes for medical practice, in
which he discusses in his Nobel Prize lecture; The relation of genetics to physiology and medicine.
To first understand sex linked inheritance we must understand Gregor Mendel s two laws of
inheritance. Mendel s first law of inheritance or Law of Segregation, describes how each allele in
a pair separates and forms into different gamete or sex cells, during the uniting of these sex cells
(the sperm and the egg). The second law of inheritance or Law of independent assortment states
that, a pair of alleles segregate or separate independently from the other allele in the union of the
sex cells. An addition was added to Mendel s two inheritance laws. These

A great artist, Eugene Delacroix, once said, What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires
their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is
still not enough. This famous saying, highlights one of the reasons art or even a single painting is
so important. Art is more than shapes and colors; art brings about so much more meaning. It
expresses life, history, beauty, and morals. It shows beliefs and contributes to the many reasons that
make a human being, a human. Art represents past, present, and future. An ancient painting that
was made over 500 years ago could have all the meaning in the world. It shows what life was back
then, how humans have evolved since, and how humans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

for the Botticelli s friends, the Medici family, a Florentine family made up of Lorenzo Di Medici
who was ruler of Florence and Cosimo Di Medici who was known for opening the first public
library in Europe in 1444. Botticelli s artistic and financial highpoint was reached during his
middle years when he had contacts, money and fame as a result of the Medici family s
patronage. Botticelli was self confident and completely at peace with his work, fellow Italian
painter Giorgio Vasari claimed about Botticelli that, he loved beyond measure (Lightbown 17),

Greek Mythology. One of the unusual depictions of Botticelli s early work at the time was that it
was all based off mythologies and not religious paintings which must have been a shock to people
outside of the Humanist circle. Botticelli s work is very sophisticated and feminine. Botticelli
loved to make his paintings beautiful in that fantasy kind of way, Botticelli was an individual in an

Primary Deviance And Secondary Deviance
Each theory may aid in predicting and preventing teacher sex scandals. With female teachers and
considering the rational choice and labeling theories, there are some links within. For the labeling
theory, as mentioned above, there are two parts: the primary deviance and secondary deviance.
Primary deviance where one labels within self, secondary, where ones position is labeled by the
public. Many people here of femaleteacher, malestudent sexscandals in the media; while these
events, although tragic, can be used as prediction. It is important to identify the reasoning behind
the scandal and watch for potential contributing factors. After prediction is identified, prevention
can be set into place as well. Predicting is preventing. Once you can place a potential threat by
identifying the relationship between teachers and students, it will be easy to prevent. Using the
aspects of the labeling theory can assist in identifying that the public has labeled many female
teachers in the role of inappropriate. Knowing this label beforehand assists in being able to
prevent potential inappropriateness by being able to know possibilities. It is also important for
other faculty of the school, as well as parents, to go in with an open mind knowing the increased
rate of teacher student sex scandals. With this being said, they must familiarize themselves with key
signs and possibilities clues as to whether their student may be victimized or acting inappropriately.

1920s Dance Styles
During the 1920s, dancing was one of the main forms of entertainment. There were lots of new
dances introduced during this time. It became the newest craze of the 1920s. People would dance
anywhere they could, but mainly in their homes, clubs, parties, and during competitions. These new
dances captivated the nation, because they were easy to learn, promoted new types of clothing, and
assisted in the advancement of entertainment. One thing that contributed to the popularity of
dancing in the 1920s is how universally simple they made the dances. If these dances would have
been harder to learn, not as many people would have been doing them. Many people know that,
during the Jazz Age, almost everyone danced so they did a dance almost anyone could do
(Nelson). When Billie Putman was growing up, there were dances every weekend at the big
auditorium in the middle of town. Everyone in her small town would show up to dance. She
remembered going to the dances with her mom to help her serve refreshments downstairs, while
most of the town was upstairs dancing. If dancing was so popular in such a small town in Idaho, it
s unimaginable how influential it must have been in big cities(Nelson). Since dancing in the 1920s

For the saltwater plumes, a saltwater plume is a horizontally moving body of saline fluid that is
contained in the larger, fresh body of water. The plumes come about when there is heavy
retraction from the aquifers resulting in a saltwater intrusion. In order to keep the plume from
reaching any of the retraction sites, or wells, we must keep a close eye on the pumping amounts
at each well. For instance, Georgia Pacific shuts their machinery down for two weeks every
summer, this causes the plume to shift from the middle of two well sites to the well site being
used the most. This can cause the quality of the water to lessen as the taste will become salty and
bitter. While there is an unlimited supply of water coming from the aquifer, the rate at which the
water is being retracted can cause the water to become tainted with plumes, among many other

Persuasive Essay On Waxing The Floor
When school is dismissed for the final time for summer vacation, most of the students go to their
homes and sleep in for two and a half months. However, there are a select few students that do not
enjoy this luxury. Some students must wake up every day to make the long journey to school.
These students do not have to attend summer school or any other educational program. These
students come to the schools to waxthe floorsin order for the facilities to look presentable for the
next year. While some might not believe this to be a particularly hard task, many do not realize
how much work, thought, and preparation go into achieving this goal. This essay will give the
many steps that have to be taken in order to achieve success.
Before the actual working can even get started, the first step is to collect the supplies that are
needed. As many people would guess, waxing the floors will, of course, require the purchase of
wax. This wax is stored in five gallon buckets with an air tight seal. This seal prevents the wax
from hardening and thus can save the wax for over two years without spoiling. However, the
wax is far from being the only essential product needed for this process. A special kind of chemical,
correctly named stripper, is also needed. This stripper is used a long while before any wax can be
laid down. The stripper is used to strip the existing wax off of the floors. This requires the use of
another invaluable tool called a buffer. This machine is used

Disadvantages Of Pesticides
INTRODUCRION
Pesticides and their alternatives are an undeniable part of modern life, used to protect everything
from flower gardens to agricultural crops from specific pests (Saravi Shokrzadeh, 2011) Pesticides
are considered a vital component of modern farming, playing a major role in maintaining high
agricultural productivity. Consequently, in high input intensive agricultural production systems,
the widespread use of pesticides to manage pests has emerged as a dominant feature (Saravi
Shokrzadeh, 2011) Pesticides comprise a large number of substances that belong to many different
chemical classes, they are applied to crops at various stages of cultivation to provide protection
against pests and during post harvest storage to preserve quality, to ensure the safety of food for
consumers and regulate international trade and legislation. Pesticides are considered to be essential
for agricultural development; some of them can cause serious ambient contamination, principally in
food (Sitta et al., 2000; Gonzalez et al., 2003). This hazard, could be further increased in case of

The Children s Hour was written in 1934 and The Little Foxes would come just five years after
that. Much later, things would get rather sticky. The United States would go through a cold war and
the McCarthy era was upon the nation where creative industries were targets. Hellman and Hammett
stood by one another through the infamous Communist witch hunts ( quot;Dashiell, quot; 1996).
Hammett had actually been a Communist Party member and he had to serve six months in federal

Marriage In The Merchant s Tale Essay
Julie Rowland
Mrs. Toppin
English IV
10/6/14
Marriage in The Merchant s Tale Early British writing like The Canterbury s Tale section of The
Merchant s Tale written by Geoffrey Chaucer, the father of English poetry, reflect on social values.
Much of the tale speaks about a marriage that over flows of vices. Societies vision of how
marriages should work, display the vices of holy matrimony. The corruptness of societies views
on marriage lead to a loveless marriage. Chaucer reflects on how much societies views
influenced marriages in the 1300 s; he shows this by using conflicts in marriage of man verses
himself, women versus herself, and man versus women. Marriages in the 1300 s have to deal
with the conflict of man verses himself due to the roles and powers society believes a man
should full fill instead of the way a man wants to operate. The Merchant s Tale illustrates through
January s decision about marriage, how he accepts what he has to perform in the holy bond.
Matrimony proves corrupt due to societies view. Rosalyn Rossignol states in her book, Chaucer:
A Literary Reference to His Life and Work, that January s decision on the virtues of marriage does
not blind his vices and that he tries to convince himself that he has honorable reason for wanting a
wife. (175 176). Chaucer states that January has lust for a wife, for who he can have intercourse
with, without it being a sin (1258 1264).This shows his lust for women because society tells him

water. (Weeks) If there isn t any water to drink from the faucet then how do you get any water?
People quickly went for stores to get bottles of water so they could at least drink. After some test
the government said the water was okay to use. Yet people were still filling up the hospital with
unknown rashes, nausea, and other symptoms. The spill revealed the flaws and uncertainty of the
federal and state laws. This time the water linked the people of Charleston to the government. The
government didn t take the right precautions and told the people the water was safe to drink. But
people kept getting sick. So they thought maybe there is still something wrong in the water and
then told people that the water might not be very

Shocks Advantages And Disadvantages
Figure 2 shows the number of shocks reported by households across all sites. The modal and
average number of shocks reported was two and four, respectively. About 77 % of the total
households interviewed reported experiencing at least one shock of some magnitude. Thus, a total
of 924 out of the 1 200 interviewed households experienced at least one shockin the period under
study. About 75 % of those households, who reported having experienced shocks, did so at least
twice per year. Approximately, 79.2 % of the households reported experiencing moderate shocks
and 35.5 % reporting severe shocks.
Table 3 shows the frequency with which shocks were reported by the households across all sites.
The most frequently experienced shocks were illness (33 %), hunger or food shortage (32 %), and
serious crop failure (22 %) and major livestock loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the use of NTFPs as safety nets by households is positively related to the size of the
household. Therefore, big households who experience multiple shocks are likely to use NTFPs as
safety nets. As expected, there is a negative relationship between the usage of NTFPs as safety
nets and the total annual absolute household income. Therefore, as household income increases,
households tend to depend less on NTFPs as safety nets. The level of education of household is
significantly and negatively related to the usage of NTFPs as safety nets. The higher the education
level of household head, the less the household use NTFPs as safety nets. In addition, harvesting
certain NTFPs might be considered backward and not for educated people. Interestingly, the
relationship between usage of NTFPs safety nets and age of the household head is significant and
negative. This suggests that young headed households are likely to turn NTFPs in times of
hardships as compared old headed

Undertale
Undertale is a 2015 indie role playing game created by Toby Fox that received universal praise
for its unique, retro style gameplay and thought provoking story. The story goes like this: You
are a child that has tried to climb the tall mountain known simply as Mt. Ebbett. As you are
climbing, you fall into a deep hole, and realize you have fallen into what is known as the
Underground. The Underground is a land where monsters were sealed away after a long and
terrifying war. You are told by many characters that to exit the Underground, you must find the
barrier. Now it is your job to find the barrier and escape the Underground. One reason for this game
s universal praise was because of its three dimensional characters. As you attempt to find... Show

The True Pacifist Ending is achieved by sparing all the enemies that you encounter. In this
ending, you befriend all the main characters of the game including Undyne, Papyrus, and
Alphys. You also don t have to fight Asgore in this ending as Toriel will come in and stop Asgore
from fighting you, as she tells him that you have done nothing wrong, as you have just tried to
befriend the monsters. After this, the monsters will all follow you to the Surface as the barrier
is opened. At the end, all the monsters view a sunset on the Surface, and Asgore asks the player
if they will be the ambassador for the monsters, allowing them to achieve peace. These endings
are quite philosophical and show what would happen if RPGs were more realistic. This game s
philosophy has completely changed how gamers are viewed nowadays. The reason non gamers
view gamers a certain way is because of the out group homogeneity bias. As our brains crave
nothing but efficiency, they attempt to group people of a similar nature together. Also, as our
brains are lazy, they do not try to find out as much about a group as possible, but instead opt to
base a group off of what information they are already getting. When gamers are grouped, non
gamers generally group anyone who plays a video game with others who also play video games.
This causes subgroups such as retro gamers, indie gamers, and casual gamers, groups that are
almost nothing alike, to be grouped

The Need for the FBI Over the years, the FBI has grown from a small bureau into a service that
not only the nation needs, but also the world. It has helped in many significant cases throughout

Roosevelt and Bonaparte had a main idea that the people they would hire would be based on
their effectiveness and their knowledge. Throughout its first years of service, the bureau did run
into a few problems. One of the most imperative is the run in with the Secret Service. The FBI
would use agents from the Secret Service to help them with investigations, and Bonaparte did
not like this because [t]he heart of any investigation is information (Kronenwetter 61). So, in
result of this he wanted just his men working on the investigations, Congress favored him and
enabled him to begin his own force. President Roosevelt and Attorney General Bonaparte both

Genetic Disorder that Gives the Cry of a Cat The genetic disorder named cri du chat is a partial
depletion of chromosome 5p. Also known as Lejeune s syndrome as first described by Jerome

because of how affected children have a kitten like cry. It affects about 1 in 50 000 children born,
predominantly inherited by females by a 4/3 ratio. Although this particular symptom has been

The Impact Of Modern Health Care On The United States
Modern health care is a policy revolving around a system that allows individuals to access
medical services in order to maintain or improve physical and mental health. There is not
universal coverage throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage
vital to their wellbeing. In the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a
worldly scale. Numerous industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady
fluctuation within the structure of the system, and the question on how to control and prevent
further increases has yet to be solved. A large percentage of the GDP for developed countries is
currently being spent on the healthcare system. Countries such as the United States spend around
17.7% of its GDP on healthcare, with the Netherlands spending the second most at around 11.9%.
This widespread increase on healthcare expenditures is only going to increase as time progresses,
unless a new universal system is implemented that will help control the cost worldwide. In many
countries, millions of people suffer from illness because of their lack of resources, and appropriate
access of health care they need. As a result of this, a large percentage of the population in the lesser
developed regions are dying due to the nonexistence of treatment. Contrary to that, if medical
attention is received, the costly services push them into poverty or financial deficit. In countries
that have access to certain health services at an

Increase in the Significant Role in Compliance in...
The rapidly grow of financial innovation and technology in the international financial market have
encouraged an increase in the significant role of compliance in financial service firms over the last
decade. Particularly, aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, to ensure the financial stability
and protect the future crisis, regulators have continued to pay attention on improved requirement of
capital and liquidity as well as risk managementand corporate governance in the financial
intermediary. Additionally, policy makers also have focused on issues associated with stakeholders
of the financial service firms and public interest such as consumer protection, insider trading,
LIBOR manipulation and money laundering. An effective compliance, risk management and
internal audit are major mechanisms to create strong corporate governance (The Chartered Institute
of Internal Auditors, 2013), which can reduce risks arising from failure to comply regulations and
non compliance in the financial institutions.
Compliance plays an essential role to mitigate risk and protect the business from regulatory fault.
Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (2005) defines compliance as an independent function
that identifies, assesses, advises on, monitors and reports on the bank s compliance risk, that is,
the risk of legal or regulatory sanctions, financial loss, or loss to reputation a bank may suffer as a
result of its failure to comply with all applicable laws, regulations,

Daniel O Connell s Speech Analysis
This text is a political speech that Daniel O`Connell, one of the fathers of the Irish Republic, gave
at the House of Commons in London in 1836. The aim of O Connell s speech was to get equal
justice for the Irish people as members of the British Crown, and in the same way that by that time
the Scottish, English and Welsh people already had. The majority of the Parliament s members
were protestant and reluctant to give Irish Catholics more rights than they already had.
As the time O`Connell spoke to the Parliament about the equal justice, he had already become a
member of this chamber several years ago and was successful in getting more reforms for the Irish
cause. Ireland had a parliament since the year 1297 but the British crown abolished ... Show more

He tries it using different verbs like ...will you, can you, refuse you... and trying to reach them in
their quality as well educated and wise men. He mentions the year 1825 in which the Irish people
also tried to get from the Treasury Bench emancipation and they did not get it. But he appeals
emotionally to them affirming that ...I am the living representative of those hopes... of reform.
O Connell s more emotional tone of the last paragraph means to show the Parliament his love for
his country Ireland and its unjust situation. He personifies his country by seeing himself as its
friend, servant, stave ... and also as the voice of its sentiments, but above all as the voice of all the
Irish people. Once again he repeats what he wants, justice: ... I ask you only for justice . ... .
He never leaves an amiable tone during the whole speech and does not care about the taunts as
Irishman and Papist that he can get from the members of the House. He ends but the speech very
firmly and once again with the aim to get equal justice, with the words ... I demand, I respectfully
insist: on equal justice for Ireland, on the same principle by it has been administrated to Scotland
and England. I will not take less. Refuse me that if you can

Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories
Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient
sources throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but
also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood
accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man.
The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who
asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible,
God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was
upon it because of man s wickedness. In Gilgamesh the flood comes to Utnapishtim in a ... Show

The Bible states that Noah took only his family members and two of each animal. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh it is said that Utnapishtim took not only family members but others as well including
craftsmen and a pilot for the boat. Utnapishtim also took some of every species of animal with him
because he was told to do so in his dream.
The source of the waters and the duration of the excursions were not the same. The Bible states
that it rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground
water. It also says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry
up. During this time Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did
not return and then he knew the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and
six nights and after stopping on the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up.
Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water was still standing but he sent out a dove, a
swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both
Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the flood and both were blessed but in
different ways. Noah was told his family was blessed and to go out and multiply while Utnapishtim
was made a god and given eternal life.
It is believed that the flood story in the Bible occurred first although it was recorded at a later time

Sweatshops Disadvantages
Sweatshops are work environments that possess three major characteristics long hours, low pay,
and unsafe or unhealthy working conditions (Sweatshops). Sweatshops do not only employ men
and women but they also employ children, children who get their childhood robbed from to start
working at an early age. Many of the clothing companies that you wear day to day may participate
in these sweatshops .
According to the Average Hourly Apparel Worker Wages photograph, many sweatshops are in third

That s 260 million children who aren t getting an education or making good childhood memories.
Most of these children are aged from 5 to 14 years old. The children are easy targets for them
because they are obedient and scared which makes them easier and better for the employers to
control them( Moulds). The children also don t have voices to speak up for themselves or speak

much smaller which makes them perfect for some jobs that big adults can t do.
Many of the clothing brands that are trendy and cool are associated with sweatshops. It s not only
clothing companies associated with sweatshops. Many technology stores and sports companies
participate as well. Without knowing so, we support these companies by buying their products and
spending lots of money on them. Some of the clothing companies are American Apparel,
Abercrombie and Fitch, L.L. Bean, Gymboree, Hanes and Burberry. Some of the sports

Henry Ford Biography
Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford had a knack for putting stuff
together from an early age. When he was thirteen he received a pocket watch, he then proceeded
to take it apart, and then reassemble it. People heard about his skill with watches, and started
asking him to fix theirs. He even made his own tools out of nails, and a corset stay. When he got a
little older he got a few boys together to build simple water wheels and steam engines. He gained a
lot of his knowledge about steam engines by becoming friends with the men that ran them.
When he was 16, he realized farming just wasn t for him, and left home to become an apprentice to

He got together a group of businessmen to help him with this. He learned how to do everything
he did by using trial and error. His experience with his new business was the same way, but with
this method comes failure which Ford soon learned. He didn t give up easily though, the more he
failed the bigger the risk that he wanted to take. Which is why he began building, and driving race
cars. This brought just the right kind of attention in from the right kind of people. A few tries later
and, Ford established his own company in 1903, Ford Motor Company. In 1907, he created a four
cylinder, known as the Model N. It was $600, and soon became the best selling car in America.
That wasn t enough for him. He wanted to make a better, cheaper vehicle, in 1908 he released
the Ford Model T. This model was made with nine different body styles. Soon, half of all the cars
in America would be the Model T s. Later, the company would move to a bigger factory. He
wanted to increase production and lower cost. He began observing many different kinds of jobs,
and combined the ideas he got from them with his own, and soon got the idea of a moving

The Images Of Women s The Man Is A Modern Day...
The images of women approach is an approach that sanctions us to examine the female characters
in a film and determine if they are a positive or negative representation of authentic women. The

demonstrating the images of women approach through a social aspect.
In order to understand the context of this film, a historical overview of the portrayal of women
as soccer players and the creation of debutantes would give a comprehensive outlook. Beginning
with the 18th century, in Scotland, there were folk football games between married and single
women . (Macbeth 6) After World War I, the Scottish Football Association ostracized women s
football because it was less relevant in context of social reorganization (Macbeth 13). In addition
to, several societies adolescent girls are presented as young women to the public. Queen Elizabeth

Mama and Mamie were very hesitant. They tried to educate Emmett the dangers of a black person
in the South. Emmett was born in Chicago, and was not aware of the type of racism blacks
endured in the South. Unfortunately, due to Emmett s heath complications when he started to
stutter Emmett would whistle. A black male whistling at a white woman during this time of age
was prohibited. Mamie educated Emmett before he left that he should not even walk on the same
side of the street as a white woman. Emmett apparently whistled at a white woman while in a

Emmett on August 28, 1955. Mamie chose to have an open casket funeral for Emmett. Though it
was hard for her to turn her privacy of grieving the loss of her son, she chose to turn this into a

  • 2. Auditing Principle Paper Auditing Principle This report asks the author of this paper to answer to several questions pertaining to the demise of One.Tel in 2001. The author if asked to explain the role of external auditors in the collapse and how the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders likely figured into that collapse and the auditor malfeasance that led to the same. The author is asked to give two recommendations regarding the changing of the existing requirements for auditing standards as a means to close the audit expectation gap. Cause of One.Tel Collapse It is clear from the data that BDO Nelson Parkhill (BDNP) and One.Tel had a very odd and controversial relationship, and there are two major reasons for saying that. First, the regulatory bodies in Australia pointed to some major issues with the fiscal and accounting reporting for One.Tel for the years running from 1997 to 2000, the last few years before One.Tel s collapse, to the extent that there were 48 different items or action flagged as being deficient or suspect. BDNP was fined $48,000, in part for some very questionable accounting which included about $40 million in deferred expenditures and about the same amount of concealed debt (Monem, 2011). Another red flag that went up with the One.Tel/BDNP relationship is that the former was paying a substantial amount of its fees to BDNP in the form of non audit services (NAS). In fact roughly half of the fees paid to BDNP from 1997 to 2000 were for things other than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall Analysis The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, a short story by Katherine Anne Porter, describes the last thoughts, feelings, and memories of an elderly woman. The importance of the title becomes obvious as Granny Weatherall s life flashes before her eyes. She is an 80 year old woman who is bedridden, stubborn, sick, and in denial. She has four children one of whom had passed away: Lydia, Cornelia, Jimmy, and Haps. Critics agree that there is no sign from God that her soul will be accepted into heaven. Granny Weatherall expects a sign from God, but overlooks it when it is given. Granny undeniably gets a sign from God; however, she overlooks this sign because it is Hapsy her last born daughter that had passed away. Granny has flash backs of her life that goes as far back as 60 years. Hapsy was the one that Granny wanted. Did you send for Hapsy to? (68) As Granny Weatherall moves closer to death her thoughts become more scattered. Making connections with her thoughts is possible to conclude that Hapsy is her favorite daughter that she longs to see once again. Hapsy had been her last born child, that had passed away. Hapsy melted from within and turned flimsy as gray gauze and the baby was a gauzy shadow, and Hapsy came up close and said, I thought you d never come, and looked at her very searchingly and said, You haven t changed a bit! (68) Granny imagines telling Hapsy many things in Heaven, that she was not able to do so here on earth. Granny was searching for Hapsy. She had to go long way back through many great rooms to find Hapsy standing with a baby on her arm. (68) Hapsy was Granny s sign from Christ, but because Granny overlooked this it is a sign of the rejection of the jilting Granny Weather Courageously faced. Granny has been through several triumphs in her life. She was about to marry George and he left her at the altar. After that happened she married and her husband John which passed away. She learned to be an independent woman that did not rely on anyone. She had fenced in a hundred acres once, digging the post holes herself and clamping the wires with just a negro boy to help. (67) She did both chores that the woman and the man would do. At the end, Granny blew out the light in fear of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Judith Ortiz Cofer s Short Story Volar Every author writes his or her wok with a certain aim or goal that he or she would like to achieve. Some of the aims for writing include entertainment, to educate or to simply tell the author s story. Judith Ortiz Cofer s short story, Volar is an example of a short story written for the purpose of telling one s story. Cofer, gives an account of her family s, her mother to be precise, as well as her dreams, which raises the concerns of a story characterized by constant exit from reality and entry into dreams. As a result, this paper aims at giving an account, based on the short storyVolar by Judith Ortiz Cofer, of dreams versus reality. In the event of picturing the American dream, many people have this concrete picture or idea of perfection and a life well lived. However, the same is not true for every family, which is portrayed by Cofer in Volar, which means to fly, thus the discussion, dreams versus reality. An article by Jenniffer L. Hochschild decribes the American dream as follows, The idea of the American dream has been attached to everything from religious freedom to a home in the surbubs...a world where anything can happen and good things might. (15). In her book, Hochschild portrays the speaker s, the little girl in the short story, American dream, which she is unlikely to ever achieve due to her present circumstances. The ... When the little girl s father tells her mother that they cannot afford to fly to Puerto Rico, her mother expresses disappointment when she says, Ay, si yo pudiera volar (Cofer,279). The mother s phrase can be taken literary to mean the mother wishes they could fly to Puerto Rico. Prostate Cancer Screening A Literature Review of the Journal Club Article Entitled Facilitating Shared Decision Making About Prostate Cancer Screening Among African American Men According to the ACS Statistics of cancer incidence rates among US males for 2003 2007, prostate cancer occurs more commonly in African American men than in white males (ACS, 2011 2012). Therefore, it is not only essential, but also vital to increase knowledge on the subject matter, raise general awareness, and promote shared decision making about screening and testing procedures. The Iowa model was specifically indented to be used by nurses and other healthcare professionals because it assisted them during various intervention stages, such as development and implementation, as said caregivers provided key knowledge to individuals about disease risks and decision making tools. The non clinical nature of the setting was well chosen, and it directly correlated with the HBM, since church attending men would be more morally obligated to take preventive action, and receive timely treatment if they had any health concerns. In addition, the church setting was an appropriate venue, and it was relevant to the Community Empowerment Model because it allowed for direct interaction with community leaders, such as pastors, to build strong lasting relationships with them. The combination of the three above mentioned models has led to the development of this successful method that have encouraged men to execute easily prostate cancer screening decisions, and to become more perceptive and aware of their health and welfare, while developing strong therapeutic relationships with individuals outside the sanctuaries, such as oncology nurses. • 11. Differences Between Daoism And Confucianism It is a well known fact that in order to survive, civilizations must change; they cannot remain stagnant forever. These changes allow a society to grow and develop which is crucial as new breakthroughs can lift up a civilization from a place of oppression and boundaries into a more equal and freeing place. However, long held customs or behaviors may be persistent with the lifespan of a society. Typical behavior can last centuries, but sometimes a small break will occur where a new change is tested out only to be reverted back to the previous arrangement. During the time period 100 C.E. to 600 C.E classical chinese civilizationwitnessed a change of spirituality that disrupted the traditional social system. However, despite this, China upheld... This extensive test was special to China as compared to the Roman Empire a position of power is given to one who has the desire to help his community, not to one who has wealth and aristocratic titles. Despite going through many leaders and several dynasties, the political system remained strong and intact with this practice of choosing officials. The mandate of heaven was strong as well, giving leaders their power along with support from their followers. The political structure of Chinese culture remained persistent as well, an ode to the structure of their political system. Because their basis was so well thought out and organized, it didn t need to be altered or changed much with each new ruler. While Chinese culture was open to some changes, it s political system hadn t the need to be changed. An intricate system of testing potential government officials, the civil service exam proved to be unique to chinese culture; a testament to the organization that went into their political system and future political candidates. The few changes made to the political structure is proof enough that the early Chinese civilization can be considered a resilient society that understood that a strong ... • 14. Go Set A Watchman By Harper Lee Synopsis Harper Lee s novel, Go Set a Watchman, tells the story of the 26 year old Jean Louise as she gains awareness of her father s flaws and becomes a more independent and flexible person. During the novel s exposition, Jean Louise is on a train returning to her hometown, Maycomb, to visit her aging father, Atticus. Upon returning home, Jean Louise quickly gets into an argument with her aunt, Alexandra, over trivial matters. The two continue to bicker at each other until Atticus intervenes. While Jean Louise finds it extremely frustrating that her aunt is never able to understand her point of view, she finds comfort believing that Maycomb has remained the same since she last left. Spain played a particularly large role during the early years of the nation, with England and France also attempting to impose their will upon the Dutch. Victories against the Spaniards in the decades following 1587 claimed many lands and helped to separate the Dutch as an independently governed nation. Recognition by the English and French of Holland as individual also helped this cause. From 1621 1648 the Dutch were once again at war with Spain. At the onset of this war, the outcome did not look well for the Netherlands, as Spain had captured Breda, an important fortress in the south. Following this, however, the Dutch began to take back key pieces of land in the south and had several pivotal naval victories against the Spanish. Included in these naval victories were Piet Heyn s celebrated capture of the Spanish silver fleet, off the coast of Cuba, and the destruction of a Spanish fleet in the Downs, off the English coast (Michael J. Wintle, n.d.). Following the signing of a treaty in 1648, the Spaniards now formally recognized the Netherlands as an independent state. Genetics is the study of how hereditary characteristics or genes are inherited. The studies of genetics have first been recognized by Gregor Mendel. Gregor Mendel studied how traits were passed down from parent to offspring using pea plants. It was later discovered that Mendel s law of inheritance not only worked for pea plants but also on, animals and humans. Mendel s experiments gave rise to the importance of chromosomes in genetic experiments, crossing over, and linkage. Thomas H. Morgan experimented on Drosophila melanogaster, fruit flies to give further analysis of Mendel s two laws of inheritance. Morgan s work have been recognized for discovery of sex linked genes and the importance of understanding genes for medical practice, in which he discusses in his Nobel Prize lecture; The relation of genetics to physiology and medicine. To first understand sex linked inheritance we must understand Gregor Mendel s two laws of inheritance. Mendel s first law of inheritance or Law of Segregation, describes how each allele in a pair separates and forms into different gamete or sex cells, during the uniting of these sex cells (the sperm and the egg). The second law of inheritance or Law of independent assortment states that, a pair of alleles segregate or separate independently from the other allele in the union of the sex cells. • 37. Marriage In The Merchant s Tale Essay Julie Rowland Mrs. Toppin English IV 10/6/14 Marriage in The Merchant s Tale Early British writing like The Canterbury s Tale section of The Merchant s Tale written by Geoffrey Chaucer, the father of English poetry, reflect on social values. Much of the tale speaks about a marriage that over flows of vices. Societies vision of how marriages should work, display the vices of holy matrimony. The corruptness of societies views on marriage lead to a loveless marriage. Chaucer reflects on how much societies views influenced marriages in the 1300 s; he shows this by using conflicts in marriage of man verses himself, women versus herself, and man versus women. Marriages in the 1300 s have to deal with the conflict of man verses himself due to the roles and powers society believes a man should full fill instead of the way a man wants to operate. The Merchant s Tale illustrates through January s decision about marriage, how he accepts what he has to perform in the holy bond. Matrimony proves corrupt due to societies view. Rosalyn Rossignol states in her book, Chaucer: A Literary Reference to His Life and Work, that January s decision on the virtues of marriage does not blind his vices and that he tries to convince himself that he has honorable reason for wanting a wife. (175 176). Chaucer states that January has lust for a wife, for who he can have intercourse with, without it being a sin (1258 1264).This shows his lust for women because society tells him his wife should ...
