Pros And Cons Of Robots
Robots are becoming more and more advanced. As employers implement more automation, it is
likely that many will lose their jobs to a robot. Robots have already been employed in many
industries successfully especially in manufacturing. This automation improves the productivity
in manufacturing and in effect, reduces the costs to make products. Manufacturing jobs now
populated by people have many Musculoskeletal disease risk factors. With the application of
robots, workers will not have to put themselves at risk for personal injury caused by MSD s.
Research shows that repetitive work can cause musculoskeletal diseases in humans, but
fortunately, robots are starting to acquire the tedious, manual labor jobs that enhance these
diseases more; therefore, robots are seen as an ethical improvement to job safety and wellness.
Musculoskeletal diseases are the leading cause of disability in the United States. MSD s are
diseases that affect the muscles, bones, and any connecting tissue , and they cause chronic pains
and mobility issues. In the workforce, there are MSD risk factors that contribute to the onset or
advancement of MSD s. They include heavy lifting, rapidly and or repeatedly doing the same
tasks, awkward positions, vibrations, bodily impacts, etc.[1]. There are many occupations that put
workers at risk for MSD s especially labor intensive jobs. The pain and immobility that can be
caused by MSD s lower the quality of life of occupants and cause reduced productivity. When an

Spanish American Cuban War Essay
The War of 1898, also known as the Spanish American Cuban War, was a three year long battle for
Cuba s independence from Spain. Before the Cubans could, most likely, win the battle on their own
terms, America swooped in and took on Spain with only four months in the war remaining. But
America saw another problem after the war with Cubans ruling themselves. So America created the
Platt Amendment and inserted them in Cuba s constitution, saying that it was purely for Cuba s
safety against civil struggles or attacks from other military powers. These are only some of the few
historical or historiographical perspectives that ignore Louise Perez Jr arguments that the United
Stateshad different motives for involving themselves in the War. When Cuba started fighting
against Spain for independence, America claimed they admired Cuba s passion for liberation. It
reminded America of it s own origins, making Americans believe it was their duty to help the
Cuban people. Or at least this was the noble image that the American government wanted to project
and that the American people greatly believed. As Perez states in his work, The... Show more

America had no need to involve itself at the point in time that it did. The only real reason that
America had inserted itself into the war against Spain was for personal gain. But America could
not find it in themselves to state that as their purpose for entering in the war. So they began to
create an image of being the selfless, white knights of Cuba. As Perez states, The perceptions of
war in 1898, however, did not enter the realm of public comprehension as a defense of national
interests but rather as the discharge of moral responsibilities . (pg.35) However, since Cuba had
acquired independence shortly after America s lended its support, America had to find a new
excuse for staying in Cuba. This is when the Platt Amendment comes into

The Writings of J.D. Salinger Essay
The Writings of J.D. Salinger
Jerome David Salinger, known as J.D., is an American short story writer and novelist. He was born
on January 1, 1919 and is still alive at the age of 81. J.D. Salinger was born and raised in
Manhattan. He went to prep school at Valley Forge Military Academy from 1934 1936. He spent
5 months in Europe when he was 18 or 19 years old. Then, in 1937 and 1938 he studied at Ursinus
College and New York University. From 1939 to 1942, he went to Columbia University where he
decided to become a writer. Salinger published short story collections and one novel. His best
known work, The Catcher in the Rye, was published in 1951. The short stories he wrote were Nine

By the time they make it through the end of the story they have changed for the better. One of
these characters that he writes about in this situation is Holden Caufield in The Catcher in the Rye.
He starts off in a bad situation because he has just flunked out of his third private boarding school.
He finally gives up life on his own in Manhattan and returns home in solitude where he finds
happiness. The critics found these situations that the characters were in debatable (Hamilton 113).
In Franny and Zooey, Franny and Zooey Glass are an example of Salinger s misfit characters of
the 60s. They are brother and sister who are super intelligent freaks and cannot deal with society or
reality. The controversy comes when they must chose between Salinger s two worlds the real or
phony. Their older brothers teach them Zen Buddhism and many other religions and philosophies.
Salinger uses this religious theme with these two characters to show how they have to deal with
their world of religion and how they have to stop using religion to deal with their problems
(Green). This religious theme was a controversial one for the author. Salinger often uses religion
for comfort. He leads his characters on a journey for happiness through religion. It is a way to free
them. Salinger uses much of the Zen philosophy to attain this freedom. The Zen Philosophy was a
new sect of Buddhism that

Into The Revolutionary War Analysis
This week s readings begin to stray away from the Seven Years War and into the Revolutionary
War. The Revolutionary War occurred because the Americans colonist wanted to be free from
Great Britain s control. King George III would go above the legislative of the colonies and force
orders without consent. So many felt that the only way to obtain freedom from Great Britain and
control their own government is they must fight for it. Patrick Henry states, The war is inevitable
and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come (Henry 44). There was no way to avoid going to war,
rather it was the only solution that would lead to the colonies freedom. In this war between the
British and Americans, Native Americans were involved and were heavily

The album begins with the song Easy Way Out , which starts very melodic, however as the song

filled vocals, this song is an indicator of what is to come with the rest of the album, unfiltered, pure

Evaluating Rasmussen s Policies On Academic Integrity
When reviewing Rasmussen s policies on academic integrity, a exceptionally important step is to
ensure that each student is informed as well as equipped to take on the assignments that are asked
of them. As the instructor, expectations must be communicated in a clear, understandable, and
attainable manner. Additionally, resources are made available to help students meet these
expectations. The initial gut reaction to the quality of Bridget s assignments is shock and slightly
insulted. Considering her performance previously in the class, the actions of Bridget would leave
one assuming it was done out of desperation. What is believed could possibly account for her
action are several situations. These situations could include, but not limited to, lack of time
management, lack of understanding, fear of the grade she is accumulating due to the previous
mediocre quality of her work, or also simply not wanting to do the work. Additionally, there could
have been a family situation that resulted in Bridget not be able to complete the work. For these
reasons continually genuine purposeful interaction with the students is essential. By the second
week of the course a call would be made to Bridget to engage her in a conversation about the
quality of her work and how to best support her to improve. As the adjunct, through this type of
interaction it will be easier to determine the intention of Bridget. When there is a violation of
academic integrity, as it is communicated in the

Processed Foods Vs. U.s. No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
Processed Foods vs U.S.
No good deed goes unpunished. Today the world tends to depend on and live off of processed
foods that are typically produced from genetically modified organisms or GMOs. The foods that
people love to snack on are slowly changing the health of the population of the United States. These
GMO packed tasty foods are cheap and readily available. Food and Drug Association also referred
to as the FDA does not classify GMOs as food(Pollan,2001). These foods are accessible at almost
every store in the United States causing the rate of consumption to increase. The easy accessibility
to these foods is causing the people of the US to become more obese, especially children.
Obesity rates continue to rise and don t seem to be stopping. Growing children tend to have
multiple unhealthy snacks throughout the course of a day. Lower and middle class citizens tend
to buy the cheaper unhealthy processed foods. People are consuming these accessible tasty
snacks in copious amounts and are becoming obese. While processed foods are less expensive
and more readily available, the obesity rate will continue to rapidly grow until processed foods are
cut out of the daily diet of America.
Processed foods are becoming more readily available due to convenience. The term processed food
applies to any food that has been altered from its natural state in some way, either for safety
reasons or convenience (Eating Processed Foods). An example of a processed food would be

Merlin
Merlin stamped hard on Arthur s foot. George looked appalled. The envelope fell to the floor.
Arthur grabbed Merlin around his neck, pulled him close, and gave him a noogie. Merlin squirmed
for all he was worth, but Arthur grabbed both his arms in one of his and kept rubbing firmly on his
head. Merlinwanted to bite the prince to make him let go, but figured that might be a step too far,
especially in front of witnesses. He tried kicking instead, but Arthur had him in an awkward
position. His face was jammed into Arthur s torso, so he couldn t even voice his protests.
See, he has much to learn about how civilized people conduct their affairs.

Merlin turned his attention to the red, glitter covered envelope. What would the Princess Morgana
possibly have to send to him?
Not caring that he was sitting on the cold tiles of the tiny bathroom, he ripped open the envelope.
Shiny confetti fell out, silver snowflakes, evergreen trees, candy canes, and golden stars. Merlin
pulled out a delicate piece of parchment. Inside a border of holly leaves and red berries, ornate
writing proclaimed:
Her Royal Highness, the Princess Morgana Pendragon, cordially invites you to the annual
Camelot Palace Youth Christmas Party. This year s party will be held Saturday, December 17, at
6:00 pm in the West Parlour. Formal dress required. Please RSVP to the palace steward by
December 15.
Merlin reread the invitation, bemused. How had he gotten invited to a party hosted by the
princess? He had no business attending an event like that. He wouldn t know anybody except
for Arthur, and he doubted the prince would want him to tag along. He d probably pretend to not
even know him, the scrawny little poor boy from nowhere who was still sharing a bed with his
mum. Besides, Merlin had no formal clothes to wear. He really didn t think his worn out button
up shirt was going to cut it. Nor did he have any idea about how to interact with the kinds of hoity
toity people who were likely to be invited to such an event.

Australia Belonging
The film Australia directed by Baz Luhrmann, features many different cultures, one of which is the
Aboriginal culture. Luhrmann covers many different aspects of the Aboriginal culture such as the
portrayals of the stolen generations, half castes and the assimilation policy.
Luhrmann addresses the stolen generations aspect of the Aboriginal culture through the character
Nullah. There is one scene where Fletcher has told the authorities that there is a half caste at
Faraway Downs. Nullah hides in the water tank with his mother who ends up drowning in the water
tank which they thinks is empty. The coppers or authorities use another Aboriginal man who can
apparently sniff out any half castes who are hiding, to find Nullah but they have no ... Show more

There was not one shot throughout the film that showed where the Aboriginal pastoral workers
lived and what the state of their living was like. Luhrmann made it look like the workers would
live at their bosses ranch instead of their shelters made of bark and branches which had no clean
water, no sanitation and no electricity. Luhrmann portrays all of the Aborigines as workers who
get given quality rations and get paid, but in fact, the Aborigines would never get paid. The real
struggle between landowners and workers was briefly shown when Luhrmann shows the audience
that they have a limited number of workers when they go to move the cattle. They only had a
small number of trained Aborigines to help move the cattle when they actually needed more to
complete the move. They end up training up the female Aborigines along with Lady Sarah and
Nullah to help move the cattle which in that time would have been a breakthrough and made the
Aborigines feel more equal and appreciated. During the movement of the cattle, the cattle get a
fright and charge towards the edge of the cliff. They do everything they can to stop the cattle from
going off the edge. This powerful scene is a metaphor Luhrmann wanted to portray. The cattle at
the edge of the cliff are a metaphor for the long history of massacres of indigenous people, often at
the edge of

Socrates Definition Of Justice Essay
Justice
What is justice? This is a question that men have struggled with answering for centuries. Justice
should be defined for the sake of all people, especially by rulers who attempt to make fair laws so
that their society functions in an orderly fashion. In Book 1 of The Republic, Plato attempts to
define exactly what justice is. To help determine this definition, he speaks through the philosopher
protagonist of Socrates. Justice is first brought up in The Republic during Socrates trip to Piraeus.
While traveling Socrates ends up gathering with his interlocutors and together, they talk about
justice and how one would define it. Socrates debates with the men about the definition of justice
and is presented with a definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic presents two very different views of justice as argued by two skilled thinkers. The
beginning of the discussion starts off with Thrasymachus explaining what exactly he believes
justice is; justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (338c) Although
Thrasymachus definition is clear, Socrates attempts to spite him by using a wild comparison, by
saying If Polydamamas, the pancratiast, is stronger than we are and beef is advantageous for his
body, then this food is also advantageous and just for us who are weaker than he is. (338c) This
statement from Socrates disgusts Thrasymachus because Thrasymachus was simply referring to
stronger in the sense of being a ruler, not strong in the sense of being physically larger. To counter
Socrates, Thrasymachus explains how different societies are ruled throughout the world whether it
be tyrannically, democratically, or otherwise, and how the rulers, those who are strongest, are the
ones who make the laws and they do so to their advantage. Thrasymachus establishes this by saying
how, A democracysets down democratic laws; a tyranny, tyrannic laws; and the others do the
same. (338e) It is clear from this line of reasoning that Thrasymachus has a solid position that
justice is, rightly or wrongly, the enforcement of the rule of law as dictated by the strong leaders
that make the law.
Socrates attempts to disprove Thrasymachus definition of

The Patterns Of Biological Diversity Throughout Rivers And...
The patterns of biological diversity in rivers and streams among taxa vary on a spatial and
temporal scale (Ligeiro et al. 2010; McGarvey and Terra 2015). Variations in stream ecology can
be contributed to water quality, habitat, and history of disturbance (Lingeiro et al. 2010). Creeks
and streams feed into rivers and other larger bodies of water, which provide food, water, and
other commercial and recreational services as well as a home to an array of plants and animals
which rely on clean water. The health of these smaller bodies of water can act as indicators for the
health of the larger watershed. Benthic macroinvertebrates have been used to assess the health of
aquatic environments. Quality analysis involves looking at benthic speciescomposition and
organization within the stream(Resh and Unzicke 1975). Different macroinvertebrates have differing
sensitivities to pollutant, with some being more susceptible to environmental toxins than others
(Metcalfe 1989). Such methods group macroinvertebrates in regards to their tolerance to pollution.
The EPT Index looks at Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (mayflies, stoneflies, and
caddisflies, respectively) as indicators of aquatic community health. The idea behind the EPT
Index is that healthier streams have a greater richness of species as many species of
macroinvertebrates are intolerant of pollutions and thus will not be found in low quality bodies of
water (Lenat 1988). Previous studies have found that EPT

Negative Effects Of Year-Round Schooling
In the modern world, parents are left with deciding whether their children should attend a year

say they cause lost opportunities due to not being able to work, higher schoolcost, decrease
participation, and make it hard on family life.

Midsummer Night s Dream Love
Sitting on a porch swing with one s true love hugging and kissing as the moon smiles down upon
them, seems like the perfect situation for true love. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from
the truth. Shakespeare presents the truth about true love in his comical tragedy A Midsummer
Night s Dream. Lysander clearly stated loves situation when he told Hermia the course of true
love never did run smooth (Griffiths 94). In some ways Lysander s declaration becomes the play s
structural and thematic point by which Shakespeare uses to explore the storms of love (Bloom 12).
In A Midsummer Night s Dream, Shakespeare uses young lovers to depict how love masters young

Demetrius, though, chose to pursue someone more appealing to his eye, Hermia. Now, Helena
whishes to be literally translated into Hermia so as to regain Demetrius affection (Young 156).
Helena pleads with Demetrius to use [her] but as your spaniel: spurn me, strike me, / Neglect
me, lose me; only give me leave, / Unworthy as I am, to follow you (Griffiths 130). Shakespeare,
no doubt included this to show how pathetic and deperate a person can be, and the things they will
do to get love in return. The characteristic Shakespeare gave to Helena is sadly a characteristic in
the world today.
Titania states that these are the forgeries of jealousy and this becomes another theme of love for
Shakespeare to play on (Griffiths 124). Oberon is jealous of the love Titania has for a little
Indian boy that she takes care of, and he wants this Indian boy and all of Titania s love (Griffiths
125). In order to get what he wants, Oberon is going to punish [Titania] by putting the juice of
Cupid s flower on her eyelids so that when she wakes up she will fall in love with a hideous
creature (Garner 87). Puck turns Bottom into a donkey and he becomes Titania s love, which
pleases Oberon. When Oberon reverses the spell and Titania realizes her actions, she subsides to
his desires. Oberon successfully taunts her into obedience (Garner 87). Shakespear shows that love

Ideology In The Selfish Giant, And The Bling Ring
In both the films we watched in class a large range of ideological perspectives were presented, and
those perspectives were largely based upon their director s views and opinions of the world. The
two films were The Selfish Giant directed by Clio Bernard, and The Bling Ring directed by Sophia
Coppola. Ideologyis a very important concept in both films, and it can be defined as a systematic
body of ideas, attitudes, values and perspectives that help shape a particular cultureor group within
that culture. Each director uses formal elements, and character values to show specific ideologies.
In The Bling Ring Sophia Coppla focuses on showing the life style that a group of corrupt teens so
desperately wants to live, and why the culture surrounding them is the reason for their corrupt
values. While the film The Selfish Giant highlights issues of working class people, and a culture
that has put children in a position where stealing to support ones family feels like doing the right
thing. Select characters in each film have a fascination with material things, and although they have
very different reasons for them the side effects they experience because of these fascinations are
very similar. In The Bling Ring the characters have a strong desire to acquire the most popular, and

Humans, being the complex creatures that they are, are fully capable of making cognizant, rational
choices, choices which can affect other persons, either in a positive or negative fashion. However,
in some cases, humans are unable to control their own thoughts. Those unable to control their
minds are often referred to as mentally ill, and with that label comes unruly consequences. Because
of their mental status, persons suffering from mental health issues do not have the same ability to
cope with reality or make intentional decisions that have a negative impact. Their inability to
process major decisions can lead to serious crimes being committed without intent. Today,

Movies, television shows, books, and more establish the insanity defense as frequently used. A
misconception about the insanity defense is that a person will plead not guilty by reason of
insanity in order to get away with a crime he or she was fully, mentally and physically,
responsible for. However; the instance of being acquitted due to pleading not guilty by reason of
insanity is rare. In order to be acquitted, the defendant must be clinically diagnosed as insane by a
mental health expert. In 1985, out of one hundred percent of all insanity plea cases, less than ten
percent of the defendants were diagnosed as mentally insane in the states of Michigan, Maine,
Minnesota, and Wyoming (Blau 437). A successful insanity plea is rare; however, if the defendant
is found not guilty, he or she is admitted into an institution where he or she will be monitored until
it is concluded that he or she will not be a danger to himself, herself, or

I myself am very dedicated to music and I love to play the piano and learn and play all types of
music. I remember when I was a little girl I would sneak out of classes and go to the music room
where there was a piano and just play all of her music. For me, it was a way to get away from
everything I was going through. Her music was deep and had meaning to every single word in
the lyrics. To me, that was all I needed. I would do research on her and see what she would be
doing and her interests and we were just interested in the same kinds of things. She was and
always will be my biggest idols. When I was younger, I always longed to go to her concert and
sit in the audience and just feel her music in me. By freshman year, I finally got tickets to see her
and it was the most amazing experience ever. It meant so much to me that I was actually in tears
while she was singing live and it felt so perfect. A few years later, my senior year, I went to go
see her again. And this time it was an even better feeling. Her drive and determination to help
anyone in her path is what touches me and makes me want to do the same things for my community
and everyone around me.
When Alicia was in her twenties, she had taken a trip to Africa. This trip changed her life because
it showed her the way other people lived and what they had to go through. When she got there she

Moll Flanders As A Realist Characters
When looking at John Gass article, Moll Flanders and the Bastard Birth of Realist Character, he
approaches the conflicting question about how the audience is meant to feel about the main
protagonist, Moll, and whether we are meant to respect her or not. While heavily focusing on the
aspects of genre theory and irony, Gass argues that it is the multiple genreexpectations that give
Moll the reputation of being deep and complex, which leads to her controversial character. He uses
historical context to show how Moll can be seen as a villain, but continues to argue that it is
primarily the expectations brought on by genre theory that make people see her as a villain, based
on those certain expectations. Gass interpretation using genre theory analysis, irony, and historical
context to deeply analyze the novelstrengthen his argument that our feelings towards Moll aren t
the main argument, but instead, that Moll is a true realist character. Gass discusses Moll
Flanders and the text s complexity involving the main protagonist, Moll, questioning whether
the audience is supposed to feel she is evil and villainous, or just someone has the ability to grow
from her past as a criminal. He begins his argument by stating, in both life and literature, we tend
to think of persons as existing in excess of stereotype: as real selves that subsist apart from their
special roles and the attempts of others to define them (111). Being a woman in the 1700 s, Moll
is expected to be married to

Motivation In Hamlet
In William Shakespeare s dramatic play Hamlet, Shakespeare develops an insanely complex
character in Hamlet, complete with ambiguous motives and unpredictable and often rash actions.
Hamlet s descent into madness begins when his father is murdered by Claudius, his uncle.
Following his father s unexpected death Hamletseems to lose control of every single aspect of his
life. He is strangely unwilling to act in his father s name and kill Claudius, yet he acts as if
avenging his father is his primary motive throughout the entire play. Why does he act the way he
does? What causes his hesitation in avenging his father but his swiftness in nearly any other event?
It seems Hamlet s frustration must be rooted in something other than just his father s... Show more

Their affection towards each other indefinitely extends beyond what could be considered
entirely maternal love. Under Freudian ideas, Hamlet should be in direct competition with his
Father for his Mother s affection if he has an Oedipus Complex, specifically sexual affection. In
Hamlet s opening soliloquy this competition and jealousy become evident, he proclaims, Must I
remember? Why, she would hang on him /As if increase of appetite had grown (I.ii. 143 144).
Hamlet s frustration and disgust with his parents relationship before his father s death is
extremely evident within this quote. He seems mad at his mother simply for being in love with
his father, which is highly unusual for an ordinary person. Moreover, following his father s
death his mother almost immediately remarries to his uncle which causes further frustration. As
expected, Hamlet is incredibly uneasy at this. He displays his angst exclaiming, She married. O,
most wicked speed, to post/ With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!/ It is not nor it cannot
come to good./ But break, my heart; for I must hold my tongue. (I.ii. 161 164) Indeed outrage at
his mother s quick remarriage is warrantable; however, the way in which he addresses his
grievances with the marriage is peculiar and not one s that would come from a platonic son. One
of his main problems is the incestuous sheets which of course is a reference to his mother and his
uncle s sexual relations. This is not the only instance in which Hamlet becomes disgusted with his
mother s sexuality, several times later on in the play he laments and becomes disgusted at the
thought of their relations. His grievances towards these circumstances would not warrant
proclaiming Hamlet indeed has an Oedipus Complex if he didn t seem to be so obsessed or
bothered by his mother s sex life throughout the play. In an attempt to conceal his extreme jealousy

How Black Is Black In Shakespeare s Othello
In othello there is a obvious difference in the way how black s AKA moor s are treated in the

black. This has an effect on a lot of Othello s conflicts with people in the play such as him having
conflict with Desdemona s father because he is black.
In Othello everyone makes the fact that Othello is black AKA a moor. Shakespeare doesn t aim
to make the fact that he is black the main point in his play but it is a very important part and key
detail in the play.the fact that he is black can mean one of two things; 1.) othello is the victim int

What are the causes of discrimination? Discrimination covers any scenario where an individual or
company treats a person or group of people unfairly due to a particular characteristic. The most
commonly referred to typesof discrimination include prejudicial behavior that is based on skin
color, gender, disability, religion or sexual orientation. However, discrimination can be based on any
attribute that is viewed as marking the victim out as being different. For example, discrimination
might be on the basis of age, weight, height, nationality, or any number of attributes. In order to tackle
this hurtful and damaging behavior, it is important to identify the causes of discrimination.
Discrimination is often based on ignorance, fear and stereotypical viewpoints. For example,
religious and/or sectarian discrimination is often fuelled by people living and working in separate
communities and therefore not having ample opportunity to interact with people from other groups.

Presumed Innocent Essay
Presumed Innocent
Innocent until proven guilty has been an important mantra in US law. The burden of proof remains
on the prosecution to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. This principle
guides the premise that wrongly accusing the incident is a greater harm than not punishing the
guilty, and sets a clean slate to build on in the minds of the Judge and jury. Additionally, this
principle protects from unreasonable accusations assuming that significant evidence must be
present first.
Opposite of this philosophy would be guilty until proven innocent. In societies following this
philosophy the accused must jump through hurdles to prove they are indeed innocent. Imagine, for
example, you come home after a long day, flop down on the couch and fall asleep watching TV.
Suddenly, bursting into the room comes the police, arresting you for robbing the convenience store
down the street. You were there, you were asleep, but how do you prove this, the clerk said you did
it. How do you proceed? Unjustly charged, potentially punished, having the presumption of
innocence would have protected you.
While Presumed Innocent is the mantra in the courts, it rarely is practiced in the court of public
opinion. As seen in the movie Presumed Innocent the lead character, Rozat Sabich, was charged
with a highly publicized murder. Being a public figure in the midst of an election, his arrest was
publicized heavily in the media. As the story leaked out, and

Dehumanizing Death Penalty
The death penalty is proven to not deter criminals from committing a crime punishable by death.
There are many arguments on whether the death penalty should be legal, but the debate boils down
to personal morals. The death penalty is immoral. Criminals will act on their drive, with no thoughts
about future consequences. The death penaltynot only hurts the criminal, but it affects the criminal
s family. The family already had to experience what it felt like to see a loved one take an innocent
person s life. This causes emotional unnecessary emotional distress for the family and those close to
the person on death row. Murdering the criminal will only put the family through even more
unnecessary trauma. Furthermore, humans are not pets. The human race should not be able to put
others down in the sense of death. It is dehumanizing for the person sentenced to death and the
executioner. There should not be a job in the United States where, in the job description, it states

If so many people murder, why aren t there more people on death row? Who chooses who gets the
death penalty and who does not? To my knowledge, there is not a manual detailing the exceptions
of murder to avoid the death penalty. A jury should have to obtain irrefutable evidence of a murder
but that usually does not happen. Innocent people can be wrongly convicted and executed. Mental
illnesses should be taken into consideration when assigning convicted murderers to death row. A
mentally ill person that has committed a crime that has put them in jail should be in a mental psych

True Freedom By John Stuart Mill And Georg Hegel
Wars, death, and other acts of violence have all been part of a process to attain true freedom.
However, what is true freedom? John Stuart Mill and Georg Hegel tackle this notion of freedom.
Mills states that freedom is when individuals have unlimited liberty, while Hegel says that is a
false freedom. He states that freedom is when the individual s morals align with external laws
within the nation state. Despite what many say freedom is more similar in Hegel s and Mills than
different. We can see this through Hegel s notion of absolutemind and Mill s value of liberty and
notion of diversity. God is absolute mind, God is the totality of human thinking and through spirit
God is becoming aware of its own self consciousness to reach even higher levels of consciousness.
This is the notion of absolute mind according to Hegel, he mentions that during this process of
absolute mind of becoming aware of itself. Human history tends to be a Slaughter bench (Hegel
71), reason being because diversity is trying to figure itself out. As seen in his dialectics, patterns
which dictates even the absolute spirit, there are two dialectics that he mentions, the ethical and
political dialectics. These dialectics contains a thesis which is the original definition of something,
an antithesis which is contrary to the thesis. Finally, those two are synthesized to become one, a
better solution. For example, the political dialectics has a thesis of containing of the family life,
which relates to

Van Nguyen Should Be Abolished
In my opinion, I believe Van Nguyen should have been given clemency. While he was convicted
of drug trafficking, Singaporean police should have not carried out the execution for reasons
such as: inhumanity and contradiction. In today s world we all want to move towards a violence
free society, and I can t see how dishing out capitol punishment helps our move. It is contradicting
and makes our plea for violence free seem meaningless. I believe no one deserves to die, and that
we all make mistakes, some worse than others but we should all be given a second chance.
Furthermore, I don t believe that executing Van Nguyen will deter future drugtraffickers from this
type of behavior. Instead, what should have happened was, the Singaporean governmentshould have

The late nineteenth century was a time of social reformation. Questions about social roles, religion,
and the overall progression of America arose from the up and coming modernizing society. These
questions would inevitably lead to political and social movements that would influence today s

developing positive social change. Frances Willard, a Christian suffragist, political activist, and

Willard recognizes the hardships of being an activist and the negative attention that comes along
with it. However, she believes in her actions toward reform and wants to reassure her audience
that they too are praised for their efforts and that they will all be recognized for the courage they
are admitting. Willard accounts for the worldwide efforts that the World s Woman s Christian
Temperance Union has made exemplifying God s principles. She notes the importance of these
principles and the need for them to be embraced into customs and laws in order to live in an
acceptable godly society. This view of acceptance, equality, and the act of working in mission
groups worldwide and promoting awareness for those less fortunate depicts our desire to strive
for those same morals in today s society. Moreover, The Temperance Campaign which was

views of the modern evangelical Christian, middle class women and their belief that sobriety and
patriotism went hand and hand. Sobriety was represented as a way to strengthen American families
by living morally and by the hands of God. This speech in particular, made a clear separation

Family Vacation Essay
Spending quality time with family is one of my favorite childhood memories, whether it was
spending time outdoors, playing ping pong, or watching a movie. My most meaningful family
memory came from our vacation to Colorado back in 2004; yes, 2004. Although I don t
remember all of the events that transpired, I m able to recall most of the memorable events that
took place. It was a cool, misty morning in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and I could
distinctly hear the unmistakable elk calls that echoed through the mountains. The breeze gently
scraped my face as I got into the car to begin the first day of our family vacation in Colorado. I
could hear the car tires gently humming on the road during this cool, foggy, Colorado morning.
As I looked past the lanky pine trees, glistening drops of dew formed on the tall grass, dancing
with the wind. As we moved further down the road, I could see the tip of the sun barely begin to
peek over the steep, snowy mountain peaks; however, the sun was soon covered by the misty
Colorado clouds. This was it: our family vacation!
Ever since the beginning of summer, I was looking forward to one activity in particular on this
vacation: our white water rafting trip. I could just imagine the cool water of the river, and the wind
swiftly rubbing my tiny little face. The trees dancing in the wind, while the birds sing me a gentle
song while I aimlessly float down the river. This adventurous trip was quickly approaching us, as it
was only a day away. I

Low Income And Lower Class Families Struggle With...
Education today is a very important need for a successful, prosperous, and respectable life.
Almost every job a person seeks to find in the work force requires a degree of some form. More
and more every day, people are needing a good education to make enough of a living to survive.
Low income and lower class families struggle with providing their children with necessary
educational needs. They do not have the funds to provide educational needs to help them excel
in their adulthood. Most of the lower class society is brought up in rundown neighborhoods,
which means they do not have the means to attend an upper class school. In a lower class
education setting, more often than not, you find that the teachers are failing because the system
is failing. The higher class institutions teach a more in depth curriculum, while the lower class
institutions teach a more practical curriculum. The families in these lower class societies make
barely enough to live, causing them to put their children s education at the low end of priorities.
It can be hard for a lower class person to get an education because of all of the hardships that
come along with it, but some prevail through all of that hardship and come out on top. The
educational system can easily be defined by our social rankings; such a ranking can cause many to
receive incomplete learnings, and allow them to fall through the cracks of society. Many teachers in
the lower class spectrum of society aren t giving the necessary

Literature In Chinese Literature
Chinese literature in the first half of the century was characterized by modernization and
westernization. Most writers warned to separate from classical Chinese. This included writers
such as Zhang Ailing, Lu Xun, and Xiao Hong. Not only did their education have an impact on
their beginnings as a writer, but as we can see through their novels, their childhood also have an
affect on their writings. Zhang Ailing, also known by her name Eileen Chang, was born into a
wealthy family, but she had a troubled childhood. Her father was addicted to opium and she left
with her mother to France, and did not return to Chinauntil later on. Her experiences in China
were not happy, and when she left, she no longer gave her tales a happy ending. When she went
back to Hong Kong and war had broken out, girls were portrayed as caring more about
themselves than the actual dangers of the war. One girl, Ailing describes panicking because she
did not have enough wardrobe suitable for the war. But it was not only her, it was almost
everyone who had a psychological response with some close association with clothing. Ailing
gives the example of Sureika, who came from a remote village on the Malay peninsula. She was
unlike any other girl at school, she chose medicine instead of the normal education and was seen
as naive. After they were instructed to hide, when a bomb had landed next to their dorm, Sureika

the same vaccines and medicines will cause new bacteria and viruses to be formed and old ones to
mutate and grow more resistant to our medicines, damaging everyone in the long run.
A general reform of medical care in America won t work very well because it s not as much a
bureaucratic issue as it is a general perception of the people. It needs to be taught to the general
public that some diseases should stay home and be cured through your own means and to stay
out of a hospital if you aren t sick. The idea of going to a public hospital every time you feel
funny is unrealistic. People don t have or don t use a primary care physician, which can help them
understand if they truly do need medical care or just some

Identity In Stamp Paid s New Name
While Sixo chooses to forgo the English language based on his nihilistic belief that there was no
future in it , other slaves instead opted to reclaim language through the process of renaming
which in turn, re forges their identity but still holds onto a piece of the individual s past such is in
line with the nature of language. After the realization of the sacrifices that Joshua had made
during his time as a slave, for example, he renames himself to Stamp Paid to go along with his
achievement of self actualization (Mindemann). A new name to go along with a tabula rasa
identity, and yet Stamp Paid s new name builds upon his experiences and history had in the

The Construction Industry Has Developed A Reputation For...
Ethics Paper Over the years the construction industry has developed a reputation for shady deals
and untrustworthiness. Contractors specifically are the root cause of the mistrust between the
industry and the public. When it comes to the relationships between contractors and subcontractors
though there is still a mistrust even though both sides share the same unfavorable reputation. Often
times contractors bully subcontractors into signing contracts that put them in very unfavorable
positions. And after that subcontractors bully sub subcontractors into signing equally unfavorable
sub contracts. However, not all contracts are terrible, what makes them so one sided are specific
clauses that are inserted in an attempt to transfer responsibilities from the contractor to the sub and
sub subcontractors. Conditional payment and oversight responsibility are a couple of the types of
clauses that attempt to do such work. Another clause in construction contracts attempts to protect
the contractor and owner from each other with regard to change orders, it is included to force each
party to put changes into writing. For the most part, no set of plans is perfect so inevitably changes
must be made. So contractors and owners find themselves in yet another situation where both sides
have the opportunity to be as unsavory as they can be. As the industry progresses into the future,
many additional contract clauses will pop up. They will attempt to shift more responsibility and
blame off the

Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, And Mesopotamia
In ancient Egypt, Rome and Mesopotamia the connections that the people had with their rulers
stemmed from their belief that their ruler had a close connection with their God s. Because of the
vast role that religion played in their lives it was important to show their admiration and
appreciation for these royal beings. From a psychological standpoint, through their style,
significance, and idealization, Mesopotamia, Egypt and Rome s depictions of royalty within their
artworks functioned as the best way to encompass the impression, and supremacy that a ruler held
over their people.
For many of the people of Mesopotamia the most important part of their society was their
religion and their royalty. They believed that they held close relationships with their Gods and
they believed that their rulers were the closest possible connection that they had to their Gods.
An ancient Sumerian proverb states Man is the shadow of God, but the king is God s reflection
(Alexander). The king was believed to be personally chosen by the gods and acting in their will
however they were not considered to be god like.
The king s responsibilities included participating in religious rituals, managing the state during
peace and war time, and creating laws. The Mesopotamians believed that in order to protect
themselves they needed to gain more resources and people and this was done by expanding and
conquering surrounding areas. Another role of the king was to issue codes of law with the ideal

Benefits Of Building And Regain Employees Trust
After 15 years of taking great pride in leading people, I fear these skills may no longer be
required or valued. As globalization and advanced technology challenges the world as we know
it, I can t help but think I ve become a dinosaur. It s disheartening to feel this way that companies
no longer care about their employees and only see them as expenses rather than assets. Building a
strong team where people trust and respect each other seems to no longer be a priority or even a
thought among managers. I say managers, because managing and leading people are two very
different things. So the question is, will we be able to build or regain employees trust; is it even
something companies care about anymore?

I wish I could dismiss this as a rare case, but the truth is that the longer I stay in this environment,
the more this is becoming the norm. Dedicated colleagues who always gave a 110% are now
telling their peers: I don t know; we don t do that anymore; I can t help with that; and so on.
Really what they are saying is I ve stopped caring. What s more concerning is that this type of
behavior is not unique to one company, it is widespread.
Newspapers are riddled with stories of deceit and deception from leaders in both the commercial
and government sectors (Wilson, 2009, p. 12). The article raises the growing issue and challenges
leaders face with disengaged employees and high turnover rates; and turnover isn t cheap. For
those concerned with the bottom line, it s important to know that the cost of turnover is estimated
to be equivalent to an entire year s salary of the employee who left, not to mention the cost of lost
productivity, absenteeism, and increased health costs. Wilson also indicated that research by
Gallup and other organizations indicate employee disengagement is costing companies billions of
dollars every year (as cited in Wilson, 2009). Average employee tenure is less than five years, and
for millennials less than three (Morgan, 2015).

Reflection On Taboos
For this sequence, our focus was on taboos. This comes out a little in Taylors New Persona and
was my main focus in Inked . I think by including these pieces of work it helps talk about the
taboos in society and it helps shed some light on the untold truths. The second assignment was my
story told through different lenses; this helped me try and expand on my writingstyle and adapt to
writing in a college setting. For my Taylor Swiftassignment, I took very detailed notes on the
music video to try and help me get a good idea of exactly what was going on. I then decided to
have my main focus on the dark spots on Taylor Swifts career. I decided to focus on these
because most of the music video focused in on her past and how it has changed her to be a new
person. In the video, there was also reference to taboos which I explained in my writing. I was
very confident on this paper and decided not to revise for that reason.
In my second assignment, I wanted to try out as many different writing styles as I could. My goal
for my first story, My Voice , reflected my true writing style. I wanted to make it somewhat
humorous and I feel like I achieved this. Compared to this, it was different when writing the
School of Horror story. I had to get into a different mindset when writing it and I feel like I
accomplished it very well. The story about my grandparents I used more simplistic language and I
accomplished this by using words like I fell or I was nervous . The

The Pros And Cons Of The Emancipation Proclamation
During the pinnacle of the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln s influential
Emancipation Proclamation declared that By virtue of the power, and for the purpose aforesaid,
I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of
States, are, and henceforward shall be free (Miller). The Emancipation Proclamation was a
necessary war measure that deemed slaves residing in areas of rebellion free, however, complete
freedom was not promised to the enslaved. This document signified an important turning point
during the ongoing Civil War, for it left the Confederacy at a severe disadvantage. Lincoln knew
that the creation of the Emancipation Proclamation would be a morally and tactically correct path
in the United Statesexhaustive battle against the Confederacy. Union leaders needed something to
help revive their campaign of preserving the Union, the main purpose of the Civil War, in addition
to eventually eradicating the controversial practice of slavery (Trefousse). The final... Show more

The primary loss the Confederacy faced was the withdrawal of their main source of economy,
slavery. In the South, especially during the time of antebellum, slavery was the cause of the South s
agricultural economy (Trefousse). Slavery produced crops and cotton that could be bought and sold
at the cost of dehumanization and other infringements on the rights of African Americans. Without
the establishment of slavery in addition to coping with an ongoing war, the economy of the
Confederacy plummeted. The amount of slaves producing goods in the South slowly decreased as
they were freed. Compared to the Union, the South had a lack of materials, munitions, and supplies
to fight their planned war of attrition (Trefousse). Clearly, the Emancipation Proclamation gave the
Union the economic edge needed to suppress the Confederacy in

Global Tattoo Methods Throughout history, people have used, invented, and modified ways of
permanently inking the skin. Tattooing is believed to have begun in the Neolithic Era, also known
as the New Stone Age, which was between 4,500 and 2000 B.C. The very first tattoo discovered
was on a mummy located in South America. There are four main methods sued globally in order to
create tattoo, though there are many more that aren t generally recognized. Currently in use are
machines, bamboo handles, the striking stick and rake, and the metal tube. In this essay, these
methods and their origins will be thoroughly explained. The Western Standard of tattooingis the use
of an electric tattoo machine, also referred to as an iron. These machines possess a tube that
contains needles. The needles pierce the skin at a very quick rate, around fifty to three thousand
times per minute, depending upon the artist and design. There are two types of tattooing machines:
coil and rotary. A coil machine uses electromagnetic currents that reverse the springs inside, which

of sessions are needed in order to achieve these types of tattoos. The artist s bamboo handle holds
twelve needles that they must bring in and out of the skin to create a pattern. This process can take
hundreds upon hundreds of hours. Typically, the artist stretches out the skin for a smooth surface
while simultaneously making punctures to create the desired effect. Some of the most intricate and
notable patterns have been made this way. Furthermore, other ancient methods require just as much,

Finding the time and resources to keep Twitter updated can often be a challenge for the average
business owner. So I m always on the look out for tools that can help with the process and take
away a lot of the grunt work.
One way to do this is through the use of RSS or content feeds. RSS stands for Really Simple
Syndication . An RSS feed is basically a file containing syndicated content that s readable by
software.
For example, most blogs have RSS feeds automatically built in (yourblog.com/feed if it s on
WordPress), along with a lot of other sites such as YouTube and SlideShare.
This can make the use of RSS very useful in keeping your Twitter account updated with relevant
content, while leaving you free to make other updates, engage with your followers, and so on.
So how can you use RSS feeds to help power your Twitter account? Here are 3 different ways to
approach it.

The Epidemic Of Aids And Aids
AIDS
AIDS, also known as (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is definitely one of the most
deadliest disease that has hit the Earth in all of human existence. With all the medicine that can
help a person with this disease they still haven t cured it. The ways that the AIDS cells can
reproduce different kinds of AIDS cells, and plus the ways that a person can get the disease. These
reasons are why AIDS are so far incurable for humanity.
AIDS is a medical condition that a person has when their immune system is too weak to fight off
infections. AIDS is a updated or worst form of HIV that aggressively attacks the immune system.
A person with AIDS can have 200 white cells or lower. The virus AIDS is known to attack and
kill the white blood cells so that they can t fight off the infections in your body. The AIDS cells
make their way inside of the cells in your body then start to reproduce and kill that cell. No cell
that the AIDS cells reproduce are the same. That is why there is no cure for the AIDS or HIV
virus, also known as (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The only thing that the doctors can do is
slow down the reproduction process. AIDS was first found in Africa and Africa has an outstanding
amount of AIDS victims. Scientist believe that AIDS came from monkeys. Monkeys have cells of
AIDS in their blood, and since the people in Africa eat the monkeys the AIDS cells gets into their
bloodstream and starts to attack. Really no one knows the real reason that people have AIDS but

Obtaining Capital For Expansion Into New Markets
Obtaining Capital A company needs to obtain capital for expansion into new markets and it wants
to obtain these funds from external sources. The ways in which company chooses to obtain these
funds depends upon the short term versus long term financing strategies of the company. As a
finance manager for a Fortune 500 company, the plan is to borrow approximately $100 million
within the next year, and the manager must present to the board the best option for this large
financing. By evaluating the different types of funding options, the financemanager can make the
best informed decision for this capital funding. It is ideal for a company to maximize the total value
of the company and minimize the overall cost of capital (Shim, Siegel Dauber, 2008). These
decisions include whether to issue debt securities, or obtain financing from individuals and whether
the funding should be secured or unsecured. Any capital structure decisions will take into account
the nature of the business, strategic plan of the company, its current capital structure and its
anticipated growth.
Debt Financing When a company is deciding whether to use debt financing, it is important to look
at the overall capital structure as each type of financing has its own advantages and disadvantages.
A rapidly growing company needs flexibility in how it structures its financing. Long term debt
financing is financing that extends for more than five years, includes mortgages or bonds, and
depends highly upon

Is There An Increased Risk Of Violence During War Veterans...
Is there an increased risk of violence in war veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder?
Many researchers believe that individuals with PTSD are on a high risk of violence. Although, all
research studies are not on the same page regarding this proclamation. The research findings
published on the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs say that despite of PTSD being associated
with increased risk of violence, most veterans and non veterans have never engaged in violence.
When factors like alcohol and drug misuse, additional psychiatric disorders or younger age are
considered, the association between PTSD and violence is decreased [39].
To find out the association between the risk of violence and PTSD in war veterans, most of the
clinical trials have been conducted on Vietnam War veterans and Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans.
Many researches claim that there is strong evidence that anger and violence are prevalent problems
in Vietnam combat veterans with PTSD [46].
A May 2001 comparative study conducted on Vietnam veterans with chronic combat related PTSD
and without PTSD stated that chronic PTSD patients showed higher levels of self reported
aggression and a significantly higher incidence of potentially dangerous firearm related behaviors
than comparison subjects [47].

with PTSD. For veterans, PTSD is strong factor that largely accounts for the relationship between

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Robots Robots are becoming more and more advanced. As employers implement more automation, it is likely that many will lose their jobs to a robot. Robots have already been employed in many industries successfully especially in manufacturing. This automation improves the productivity in manufacturing and in effect, reduces the costs to make products. Manufacturing jobs now populated by people have many Musculoskeletal disease risk factors. With the application of robots, workers will not have to put themselves at risk for personal injury caused by MSD s. Research shows that repetitive work can cause musculoskeletal diseases in humans, but fortunately, robots are starting to acquire the tedious, manual labor jobs that enhance these diseases more; therefore, robots are seen as an ethical improvement to job safety and wellness. Musculoskeletal diseases are the leading cause of disability in the United States. MSD s are diseases that affect the muscles, bones, and any connecting tissue , and they cause chronic pains and mobility issues. In the workforce, there are MSD risk factors that contribute to the onset or advancement of MSD s. They include heavy lifting, rapidly and or repeatedly doing the same tasks, awkward positions, vibrations, bodily impacts, etc.[1]. There are many occupations that put workers at risk for MSD s especially labor intensive jobs. The pain and immobility that can be caused by MSD s lower the quality of life of occupants and cause reduced productivity. When an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Spanish American Cuban War Essay The War of 1898, also known as the Spanish American Cuban War, was a three year long battle for Cuba s independence from Spain. Before the Cubans could, most likely, win the battle on their own terms, America swooped in and took on Spain with only four months in the war remaining. But America saw another problem after the war with Cubans ruling themselves. So America created the Platt Amendment and inserted them in Cuba s constitution, saying that it was purely for Cuba s safety against civil struggles or attacks from other military powers. These are only some of the few historical or historiographical perspectives that ignore Louise Perez Jr arguments that the United Stateshad different motives for involving themselves in the War. When Cuba started fighting against Spain for independence, America claimed they admired Cuba s passion for liberation. It reminded America of it s own origins, making Americans believe it was their duty to help the Cuban people. Or at least this was the noble image that the American government wanted to project and that the American people greatly believed. As Perez states in his work, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America had no need to involve itself at the point in time that it did. The only real reason that America had inserted itself into the war against Spain was for personal gain. But America could not find it in themselves to state that as their purpose for entering in the war. So they began to create an image of being the selfless, white knights of Cuba. As Perez states, The perceptions of war in 1898, however, did not enter the realm of public comprehension as a defense of national interests but rather as the discharge of moral responsibilities . (pg.35) However, since Cuba had acquired independence shortly after America s lended its support, America had to find a new excuse for staying in Cuba. This is when the Platt Amendment comes into ... • 4. The Writings of J.D. Salinger Essay The Writings of J.D. Salinger Jerome David Salinger, known as J.D., is an American short story writer and novelist. He was born on January 1, 1919 and is still alive at the age of 81. J.D. Salinger was born and raised in Manhattan. He went to prep school at Valley Forge Military Academy from 1934 1936. He spent 5 months in Europe when he was 18 or 19 years old. Then, in 1937 and 1938 he studied at Ursinus College and New York University. From 1939 to 1942, he went to Columbia University where he decided to become a writer. Salinger published short story collections and one novel. His best known work, The Catcher in the Rye, was published in 1951. The short stories he wrote were Nine Stories in 1953, Franny and Zooey in 1961, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the time they make it through the end of the story they have changed for the better. One of these characters that he writes about in this situation is Holden Caufield in The Catcher in the Rye. He starts off in a bad situation because he has just flunked out of his third private boarding school. He finally gives up life on his own in Manhattan and returns home in solitude where he finds happiness. The critics found these situations that the characters were in debatable (Hamilton 113). In Franny and Zooey, Franny and Zooey Glass are an example of Salinger s misfit characters of the 60s. They are brother and sister who are super intelligent freaks and cannot deal with society or reality. The controversy comes when they must chose between Salinger s two worlds the real or phony. Their older brothers teach them Zen Buddhism and many other religions and philosophies. Salinger uses this religious theme with these two characters to show how they have to deal with their world of religion and how they have to stop using religion to deal with their problems (Green). This religious theme was a controversial one for the author. Salinger often uses religion for comfort. He leads his characters on a journey for happiness through religion. It is a way to free them. Salinger uses much of the Zen philosophy to attain this freedom. The Zen Philosophy was a new sect of Buddhism that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Into The Revolutionary War Analysis This week s readings begin to stray away from the Seven Years War and into the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War occurred because the Americans colonist wanted to be free from Great Britain s control. King George III would go above the legislative of the colonies and force orders without consent. So many felt that the only way to obtain freedom from Great Britain and control their own government is they must fight for it. Patrick Henry states, The war is inevitable and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come (Henry 44). There was no way to avoid going to war, rather it was the only solution that would lead to the colonies freedom. Honesty comes natural for these Midwestern boys, the band describes their music The music is at times dark, sometimes uplifting, but always honest. and this is what you will hear when listening to their latest album Three Winters, Volume II . • 7. Evaluating Rasmussen s Policies On Academic Integrity When reviewing Rasmussen s policies on academic integrity, a exceptionally important step is to ensure that each student is informed as well as equipped to take on the assignments that are asked of them. As the instructor, expectations must be communicated in a clear, understandable, and attainable manner. Additionally, resources are made available to help students meet these expectations. The initial gut reaction to the quality of Bridget s assignments is shock and slightly insulted. Considering her performance previously in the class, the actions of Bridget would leave one assuming it was done out of desperation. What is believed could possibly account for her action are several situations. These situations could include, but not limited to, lack of time management, lack of understanding, fear of the grade she is accumulating due to the previous mediocre quality of her work, or also simply not wanting to do the work. Additionally, there could have been a family situation that resulted in Bridget not be able to complete the work. For these reasons continually genuine purposeful interaction with the students is essential. By the second week of the course a call would be made to Bridget to engage her in a conversation about the quality of her work and how to best support her to improve. As the adjunct, through this type of interaction it will be easier to determine the intention of Bridget. When there is a violation of academic integrity, as it is communicated in the ... • 8. Processed Foods Vs. U.s. No Good Deed Goes Unpunished Processed Foods vs U.S. No good deed goes unpunished. Today the world tends to depend on and live off of processed foods that are typically produced from genetically modified organisms or GMOs. The foods that people love to snack on are slowly changing the health of the population of the United States. These GMO packed tasty foods are cheap and readily available. Food and Drug Association also referred to as the FDA does not classify GMOs as food(Pollan,2001). These foods are accessible at almost every store in the United States causing the rate of consumption to increase. The easy accessibility to these foods is causing the people of the US to become more obese, especially children. Obesity rates continue to rise and don t seem to be stopping. Growing children tend to have multiple unhealthy snacks throughout the course of a day. Lower and middle class citizens tend to buy the cheaper unhealthy processed foods. People are consuming these accessible tasty snacks in copious amounts and are becoming obese. While processed foods are less expensive and more readily available, the obesity rate will continue to rapidly grow until processed foods are cut out of the daily diet of America. Processed foods are becoming more readily available due to convenience. The term processed food applies to any food that has been altered from its natural state in some way, either for safety reasons or convenience (Eating Processed Foods). Merlinwanted to bite the prince to make him let go, but figured that might be a step too far, especially in front of witnesses. He tried kicking instead, but Arthur had him in an awkward position. Inside a border of holly leaves and red berries, ornate writing proclaimed: Her Royal Highness, the Princess Morgana Pendragon, cordially invites you to the annual Camelot Palace Youth Christmas Party. This year s party will be held Saturday, December 17, at 6:00 pm in the West Parlour. Formal dress required. Please RSVP to the palace steward by December 15. Merlin reread the invitation, bemused. How had he gotten invited to a party hosted by the princess? He had no business attending an event like that. He wouldn t know anybody except for Arthur, and he doubted the prince would want him to tag along. He d probably pretend to not even know him, the scrawny little poor boy from nowhere who was still sharing a bed with his mum. Besides, Merlin had no formal clothes to wear. • 11. Australia Belonging The film Australia directed by Baz Luhrmann, features many different cultures, one of which is the Aboriginal culture. Luhrmann covers many different aspects of the Aboriginal culture such as the portrayals of the stolen generations, half castes and the assimilation policy. Luhrmann addresses the stolen generations aspect of the Aboriginal culture through the character Nullah. There is one scene where Fletcher has told the authorities that there is a half caste at Faraway Downs. There was not one shot throughout the film that showed where the Aboriginal pastoral workers lived and what the state of their living was like. Luhrmann made it look like the workers would live at their bosses ranch instead of their shelters made of bark and branches which had no clean water, no sanitation and no electricity. Luhrmann portrays all of the Aborigines as workers who get given quality rations and get paid, but in fact, the Aborigines would never get paid. The real struggle between landowners and workers was briefly shown when Luhrmann shows the audience that they have a limited number of workers when they go to move the cattle. They only had a small number of trained Aborigines to help move the cattle when they actually needed more to complete the move. They end up training up the female Aborigines along with Lady Sarah and Nullah to help move the cattle which in that time would have been a breakthrough and made the Aborigines feel more equal and appreciated. During the movement of the cattle, the cattle get a fright and charge towards the edge of the cliff. They do everything they can to stop the cattle from going off the edge. This powerful scene is a metaphor Luhrmann wanted to portray. The cattle at the edge of the cliff are a metaphor for the long history of massacres of indigenous people, often at the edge of ... • 12. Socrates Definition Of Justice Essay Justice What is justice? This is a question that men have struggled with answering for centuries. Justice should be defined for the sake of all people, especially by rulers who attempt to make fair laws so that their society functions in an orderly fashion. In Book 1 of The Republic, Plato attempts to define exactly what justice is. To help determine this definition, he speaks through the philosopher protagonist of Socrates. Justice is first brought up in The Republic during Socrates trip to Piraeus. While traveling Socrates ends up gathering with his interlocutors and together, they talk about justice and how one would define it. Socrates debates with the men about the definition of justice and is presented with a definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republic presents two very different views of justice as argued by two skilled thinkers. The beginning of the discussion starts off with Thrasymachus explaining what exactly he believes justice is; justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (338c) Although Thrasymachus definition is clear, Socrates attempts to spite him by using a wild comparison, by saying If Polydamamas, the pancratiast, is stronger than we are and beef is advantageous for his body, then this food is also advantageous and just for us who are weaker than he is. (338c) This statement from Socrates disgusts Thrasymachus because Thrasymachus was simply referring to stronger in the sense of being a ruler, not strong in the sense of being physically larger. To counter Socrates, Thrasymachus explains how different societies are ruled throughout the world whether it be tyrannically, democratically, or otherwise, and how the rulers, those who are strongest, are the ones who make the laws and they do so to their advantage. Thrasymachus establishes this by saying how, A democracysets down democratic laws; a tyranny, tyrannic laws; and the others do the same. (338e) It is clear from this line of reasoning that Thrasymachus has a solid position that justice is, rightly or wrongly, the enforcement of the rule of law as dictated by the strong leaders that make the law. • 13. The Patterns Of Biological Diversity Throughout Rivers And... The patterns of biological diversity in rivers and streams among taxa vary on a spatial and temporal scale (Ligeiro et al. 2010; McGarvey and Terra 2015). Variations in stream ecology can be contributed to water quality, habitat, and history of disturbance (Lingeiro et al. 2010). Creeks and streams feed into rivers and other larger bodies of water, which provide food, water, and other commercial and recreational services as well as a home to an array of plants and animals which rely on clean water. The health of these smaller bodies of water can act as indicators for the health of the larger watershed. Benthic macroinvertebrates have been used to assess the health of aquatic environments. Quality analysis involves looking at benthic speciescomposition and organization within the stream(Resh and Unzicke 1975). Different macroinvertebrates have differing sensitivities to pollutant, with some being more susceptible to environmental toxins than others (Metcalfe 1989). Moll Flanders As A Realist Characters When looking at John Gass article, Moll Flanders and the Bastard Birth of Realist Character, he approaches the conflicting question about how the audience is meant to feel about the main protagonist, Moll, and whether we are meant to respect her or not. While heavily focusing on the aspects of genre theory and irony, Gass argues that it is the multiple genreexpectations that give Moll the reputation of being deep and complex, which leads to her controversial character. He uses historical context to show how Moll can be seen as a villain, but continues to argue that it is primarily the expectations brought on by genre theory that make people see her as a villain, based on those certain expectations. Gass interpretation using genre theory analysis, irony, and historical context to deeply analyze the novelstrengthen his argument that our feelings towards Moll aren t the main argument, but instead, that Moll is a true realist character. Gass discusses Moll Flanders and the text s complexity involving the main protagonist, Moll, questioning whether the audience is supposed to feel she is evil and villainous, or just someone has the ability to grow from her past as a criminal. He begins his argument by stating, in both life and literature, we tend to think of persons as existing in excess of stereotype: as real selves that subsist apart from their special roles and the attempts of others to define them (111). In Hamlet s opening soliloquy this competition and jealousy become evident, he proclaims, Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him /As if increase of appetite had grown (I.ii. 143 144). Hamlet s frustration and disgust with his parents relationship before his father s death is extremely evident within this quote. He seems mad at his mother simply for being in love with his father, which is highly unusual for an ordinary person. Moreover, following his father s death his mother almost immediately remarries to his uncle which causes further frustration. As expected, Hamlet is incredibly uneasy at this. He displays his angst exclaiming, She married. O, most wicked speed, to post/ With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!/ It is not nor it cannot come to good./ But break, my heart; for I must hold my tongue. (I.ii. 161 164) Indeed outrage at his mother s quick remarriage is warrantable; however, the way in which he addresses his grievances with the marriage is peculiar and not one s that would come from a platonic son. One of his main problems is the incestuous sheets which of course is a reference to his mother and his uncle s sexual relations. This is not the only instance in which Hamlet becomes disgusted with his mother s sexuality, several times later on in the play he laments and becomes disgusted at the thought of their relations. The burden of proof remains on the prosecution to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. This principle guides the premise that wrongly accusing the incident is a greater harm than not punishing the guilty, and sets a clean slate to build on in the minds of the Judge and jury. Additionally, this principle protects from unreasonable accusations assuming that significant evidence must be present first. Opposite of this philosophy would be guilty until proven innocent. • 30. True Freedom By John Stuart Mill And Georg Hegel Wars, death, and other acts of violence have all been part of a process to attain true freedom. However, what is true freedom? John Stuart Mill and Georg Hegel tackle this notion of freedom. Mills states that freedom is when individuals have unlimited liberty, while Hegel says that is a false freedom. He states that freedom is when the individual s morals align with external laws within the nation state. Despite what many say freedom is more similar in Hegel s and Mills than different. We can see this through Hegel s notion of absolutemind and Mill s value of liberty and notion of diversity. God is absolute mind, God is the totality of human thinking and through spirit God is becoming aware of its own self consciousness to reach even higher levels of consciousness. This is the notion of absolute mind according to Hegel, he mentions that during this process of absolute mind of becoming aware of itself. Social reform organizations made headlines across the nation and their movements towards developing positive social change. She notes the importance of these principles and the need for them to be embraced into customs and laws in order to live in an acceptable godly society. This view of acceptance, equality, and the act of working in mission groups worldwide and promoting awareness for those less fortunate depicts our desire to strive for those same morals in today s society. Moreover, The Temperance Campaign which was presented in a speech by Willard in 1874, titled Everybody s War, outlined the dangers of alcoholism and its immediate effects on American families. This speech gave the controversial views of the modern evangelical Christian, middle class women and their belief that sobriety and patriotism went hand and hand. • 35. Family Vacation Essay Spending quality time with family is one of my favorite childhood memories, whether it was spending time outdoors, playing ping pong, or watching a movie. My most meaningful family memory came from our vacation to Colorado back in 2004; yes, 2004. Although I don t remember all of the events that transpired, I m able to recall most of the memorable events that took place. It was a cool, misty morning in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and I could distinctly hear the unmistakable elk calls that echoed through the mountains. The breeze gently scraped my face as I got into the car to begin the first day of our family vacation in Colorado. I could hear the car tires gently humming on the road during this cool, foggy, Colorado morning. As I looked past the lanky pine trees, glistening drops of dew formed on the tall grass, dancing with the wind. As we moved further down the road, I could see the tip of the sun barely begin to peek over the steep, snowy mountain peaks; however, the sun was soon covered by the misty Colorado clouds. This was it: our family vacation! Ever since the beginning of summer, I was looking forward to one activity in particular on this vacation: our white water rafting trip. I could just imagine the cool water of the river, and the wind swiftly rubbing my tiny little face. The trees dancing in the wind, while the birds sing me a gentle song while I aimlessly float down the river. This adventurous trip was quickly approaching us, as it was only a day away. I ... According to the book The History of the Hermanson Dairy, They would later go on to trucks to get things moving faster . Eventually the brothers divided the route to cover more ground. At one point Herman struggled to keep up with all the work when Johnie was in the hospital for an injury. Later, the word spread and they started to deliver to more and more families. The brothers were spread thin with the deliveries, care of the horses, and the milking and feeding of the cattle. So they hired Elijah Simkins to take care of the horses. • 37. Low Income And Lower Class Families Struggle With... Education today is a very important need for a successful, prosperous, and respectable life. Almost every job a person seeks to find in the work force requires a degree of some form. More and more every day, people are needing a good education to make enough of a living to survive. Low income and lower class families struggle with providing their children with necessary educational needs. They do not have the funds to provide educational needs to help them excel in their adulthood. Most of the lower class society is brought up in rundown neighborhoods, which means they do not have the means to attend an upper class school. In a lower class education setting, more often than not, you find that the teachers are failing because the system is failing. The higher class institutions teach a more in depth curriculum, while the lower class institutions teach a more practical curriculum. The families in these lower class societies make barely enough to live, causing them to put their children s education at the low end of priorities. It can be hard for a lower class person to get an education because of all of the hardships that come along with it, but some prevail through all of that hardship and come out on top. The educational system can easily be defined by our social rankings; such a ranking can cause many to receive incomplete learnings, and allow them to fall through the cracks of society. Most writers warned to separate from classical Chinese. This included writers such as Zhang Ailing, Lu Xun, and Xiao Hong. Not only did their education have an impact on their beginnings as a writer, but as we can see through their novels, their childhood also have an affect on their writings. Zhang Ailing, also known by her name Eileen Chang, was born into a wealthy family, but she had a troubled childhood. Her father was addicted to opium and she left with her mother to France, and did not return to Chinauntil later on. Her experiences in China were not happy, and when she left, she no longer gave her tales a happy ending. When she went back to Hong Kong and war had broken out, girls were portrayed as caring more about themselves than the actual dangers of the war. One girl, Ailing describes panicking because she did not have enough wardrobe suitable for the war. But it was not only her, it was almost everyone who had a psychological response with some close association with clothing. Ailing gives the example of Sureika, who came from a remote village on the Malay peninsula. She was unlike any other girl at school, she chose medicine instead of the normal education and was seen as naive. After they were instructed to hide, when a bomb had landed next to their dorm, Sureika sorted out her brightest clothes and went to serve as a nurse for Red Cross. Her bright ... The overuse of medical facilities has more than one detrimental consequence. The frequent use of the same vaccines and medicines will cause new bacteria and viruses to be formed and old ones to mutate and grow more resistant to our medicines, damaging everyone in the long run. A general reform of medical care in America won t work very well because it s not as much a bureaucratic issue as it is a general perception of the people. It needs to be taught to the general public that some diseases should stay home and be cured through your own means and to stay out of a hospital if you aren t sick. Contractors specifically are the root cause of the mistrust between the industry and the public. When it comes to the relationships between contractors and subcontractors though there is still a mistrust even though both sides share the same unfavorable reputation. Often times contractors bully subcontractors into signing contracts that put them in very unfavorable positions. And after that subcontractors bully sub subcontractors into signing equally unfavorable sub contracts. However, not all contracts are terrible, what makes them so one sided are specific clauses that are inserted in an attempt to transfer responsibilities from the contractor to the sub and sub subcontractors. Conditional payment and oversight responsibility are a couple of the types of clauses that attempt to do such work. Another clause in construction contracts attempts to protect the contractor and owner from each other with regard to change orders, it is included to force each party to put changes into writing. For the most part, no set of plans is perfect so inevitably changes must be made. So contractors and owners find themselves in yet another situation where both sides have the opportunity to be as unsavory as they can be.
