Christmas Day In Japan
You might wonder what other people in the world are doing at this time of the year. Well, this
paper will tell you all about what the Japanese people do during Christmas. You may be surprised at
what they do during this special holiday. In Japan they do celebrate Christmas, but surprisingly
celebrating Christmasis not their number one priority. Although they celebrate Christmas on the
same day that we do they celebrate Christmas eveeven more, and they do not celebrate it in a way
that would be common. Many people in Japan think of Christmas eve as a day of peace and love.
They celebrate Christmas eve like it is another valentine s day, and usually go to a fancy restaurant
and buy each other a gift. Another tradition that many Japanese people do on Christmas and
Christmas eve is the Disney Christmas Parade. The Disney Christmas Parade is when they have a
parade with many Disney characters who pass out candy and do some cool tricks. Not only do
they celebrate it like a valentine s day, but they also have many favorite foods. Some of their
favorite foods that they have are KFC and strawberry shortcake. It may sound weird that they eat
KFC on Christmas eve and Christmas day, but it is a tradition around Japan. KFC in Japan was
first introduced when a Japanese family could not find any turkey for Christmas and so they ate
fried chicken instead. The KFC manager saw his opportunity and decide to run a campaign called
Kentucky for Christmas . Kentucky for Christmas was very

The Origins Of The American Mafia
INTRODUCTION Since their beginning, American society has been fascinated with the gangster
lifestyle and the American Mafia is no exception to this trend. Mafia themed movies such as
Scarface and Goodfellas have proven to be timeless classics. However, the American Mafia goes
deeper than the media shows. While they do have the same name, the American Mafiais a group of
Italian Americans and is not directly affiliated with the original Sicilian Mafia. The American
Mafia is a highly organized and complex nationwide criminal network with a membership hierarchy
and a strict set of values.
HISTORY
The origin of the American Mafia can be traced back to the late 1800 s and early 1900 s.
Thousands of Italians flocked to America in hopes of better economic opportunities. Between 1880
and 1910, the Italian population in New York alone increased by 2400%, from 20,000 to 500,000.
While the majority of the Italian immigrant were good and law abiding citizens, a minority formed
small neighborhood gangs that would later become one of the largest organized crime gangs in the
United States. During the 1920 s Prohibition era, the 18th Amendment was in full swing and the
manufacture, sale, and distribution of alcohol was strictly banned. The budding American Mafia
took this as a business opportunity and turned to bootlegging. They were incredibly successful at
this and their crime regime also grew to include money laundering, smuggling, and bribing officials.
Meanwhile in Italy, the

Insomnia Research Paper
The subject I have chosen to write about is Insomnia. The reason I have chosen this is because I
know some things about it, but I would like to know more. For the past few weeks I have been
only sleeping for one to two hours before I have to be awake for the day. It has been driving me
crazy that I cannot sleep. I am the type of person who loves to sleep. If I could be sleeping at any
time I would be. I would like to understand why I have it and what is causing it. I have learned
that my biological mother has the same thing and she has tried everything there is to stop it, but
nothing has worked. I too have tried everything that I can think of to try and sleep, nothing has
worked so far. I also know that it can be caused from stress, most

American Beauty Analytical Essay
Film Scene: American Beauty Lester s Performance: 1.The Scene shows the conversation
between Lester (employee) and Brad (manager of the company). Towards the start of the scene,
Lester is frustrated with his life. His wife is so worldly and they hardly determine each other,
and his young offspring cannot determine both of them. He is working as a writer in the media
magazine, he is caught for a difficult and futile occupation. 2.Brad, the newly hired organization
expertise, is doing investigation of the Lester s execution in the office. This scene is mainly shot
in Brad s office. Brad calls Lester in his office because he is not satisfied with Lester s work and
discloses to him that if he needs his job, he should begin working hard to raise up his impression. 3.

Firstly, we should take gander at Lester s shot. Lester is sitting in the chair in the middle of the
room and takes up a little space. Furthermore, the shot is broader and a high angle shot, it makes
the Laster look shorter and lower. The room is big but doesn t contain attractive stuff it s more
like unoccupied room. Talking about Lester expression, his expression are weird and he looks
weak and helpless. He is not sitting straight and his outward appearance demonstrates his
irritation and disappointment. For Lester his job seems like a prison for him. Lester is being
threaten by Brad in his dark room office (working Thesis). 4.If we take a gander at Lester from
Brad s side which is more likely perspective kind of shot. We can see that the shot is taken from
the low angle. This angle perfectly fits with Brad s personality as he is the boss and has all the
power and authority to manage the company. He is young and dresses perfect according to the
shot. Yet, the descending edge is overstated. As opposed to taking a gander at Lester entirely
from Brad s physical perspective, we appear to take a gander at him from Brad s mental and
passionate perspective. We are taking a gander at a little and insignificant

Drug Delivery And Its Effect On The Body
Drug delivery is the method of transporting a pharmaceutical compound to safely achieve its desired
therapeutic effect in the body by using approaches, formulations, technologies, and systems. Today
these technologies are nanobiomaterials and the use of nanobiomaterials are unprecedentedly
increasing in drug delivery thanks to their significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of
disease. The major goals of using nanomaterials are to reduce toxicity, increase biocompatibility,
safety, and specific cell targeting. Otherwise, nanoparticle based vehicles in drug delivery is an
important technology because of their small sizes, easy penetration through cells, increasing
cellular uptake, and capacity to carry large amounts of drugs, thus... Show more content on

Cisplatin (DDP) was taken as a drug and coated on the negatively charged fNDs clusters. The
aim of this study is to show abilities of fNDs in tumor cells such as drug accumulation and
retention time, tumor cell killing effect after clearance with comparing only drug. In this study,
nanodiamonds were synthesized by detonation techniques and polyanionic polysaccharide
sodium alginate (ALG) functionalized onto the positive charged NDs clusters via electrostatic
interaction. Cis diamminedichloro platinum (II) (Cisplatin, DDP), a potent antitumor drug was
used and in this study, it was encapsulated with negatively charged fNDs clusters via anionic
complexation between fNDs and DDP. The size and zeta potential of NDs, fNDs and fND DDP
were measured by laser light scattering. The structures of modified NDs and fND DDP were
observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). FND DDP, fNDs, and DDP was cultured
separately into HepG2 liver carcinoma cells and was observed by synchroton based micro X ray
fluorescence (ВµXRF) techniques. Also it was controlled to be cultured into other cancer cells such
as cervical cancer HeLa cells and lung cancer A549 cells. Effect of fNDs on DDP delivery and
releases were investigated. By ICP OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission
spectrometry), drug loading efficiency was estimated. For cytotoxicity and biocompatibility
analysis, cell viability was assessed on cancer cells by MTT [3 (4, 5 dimethylthiazol 2 yl) 2,

THE SUN ALSO RISES
a.In The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway, there are two main settings: France and Spain.
The novel begins in Paris, France with the narrator and protagonist, Jake Barnes lives and
immerses himself in his journalism. Paris is known to be a place of great beauty, and was a
common place for many writers to reside in the 1920 s. This initial setting of Paris served to
contrast the excitement and beauty yet corruption and uneasiness that is the enigma of Paris.
This is where Jake lives, he frequents bars and parallels his author Hemingway in his general
detachment from the war. The second setting is in Spain where Burguete, Pamplona and Madrid
are visited. Burguete is a more rustic part of the country where Jake and Bill go to be one with
nature and go fishing. This setting was the most different from Pamplona and Paris, for its
unadulterated nature and simplicity of the landscape. However, the fiesta in Pamplona was a grand
event where Brett was moved by Pedro Romero. Pamplona was a small city known for its bull
fighting, and the place where tension unfolds when the main characters get drunk and fight for
Brett s affection. The settings in this novel are parallel to the events that unfold there.
b.One of the possible themes of The Sun Also Rises is fear of emasculation and the effects of
castration, both literally and figuratively speaking. In this novel, we follow Jake Barnes who was

As each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird following. By in a V formation, the

Stevens Johnson Syndrome Research Paper
Stevens Johnson syndrome Stevens Johnson syndrome (erythema multiforme) is an acute
inflammatory polymorphic disease affecting skin and mucous membranes. All ages may be
affected, and the incidence is equal in both sexes. This is a severe disease with a 5% 15% mortality
rate. Ocular involvement, which occurs in as many as half of patients, varies from a mild
mucopurulent conjunctivitis to severe perforating corneal ulcers. Blindness occasionally occurs in
patients with severe late phase corneal complications, such as ulceration, vascularization, and
perforation. Stevens Johnson syndrome has been associated with various bacterial, viral, mycotic,
and protozoal infections. Vaccines, collagen diseases, and many drugs have also been implicated...

instances, a concomitant conjunctivitis appears that is characterized by watery discharge with
mucoid strands (Fig 16 13). Secondary infection, most commonly withStaphylococcus species, may
develop. In severe cases, a membranous or pseudomembranous conjunctivitis may result from
coalescence of fibrin and necrotic cellular debris. Symblepharon formation may occur with severe
pseudomembranous conjunctivitis. Primary corneal involvement and iritis are rare ocular

Working With Nursing And Healthcare Leadership
Throughout this communication course I have learned and attempted to apply new skills in
communication and group interactions. I have collaborated with nursing and healthcare
leadership professionals on a project to improve communication and health outcomes for a
specific population. As our group has formed and developed during this quarter, I have
identified strengths and weaknesses in my ability to work within a group. The four stages of a
group, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006) will be discussed as they pertained to my
perception of the group process and outcomes this quarter. My communication strengths,
weaknesses, and my adoption of the informal roles outlined by Connery and Vohs (2006) with
regard to group work will be analyzed as well as my plan for utilizing my strengths and
addressing my weaknesses for future interactions and group work. Group Phases During our
Forming phase, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006), we spent a little time getting to know
each other, but we stuck to the basics like names, work schedules and phone numbers. After these
initial introductions, we assigned the roles of coordinator and recorder and discussed some group
norms that we wanted to adopt for the quarter. We then started discussing the focus of our group
work and trying to devise a plan for how we will move through the quarter. I think it is a normal
reaction whenever anyone is meeting or working with someone for the first time to tend to be more

SONU NAYYAR
The very word Diwali brings alive a vibrant splash on the blank canvas of our mind. Idyllically, the
festival of Diwali is meant for a joyous celebration with carefree attitude. However, the meaning
of Series of Light has changed over the years as commercialization has crept in and with it
hazardous products have been introduced. In this fun and frolic, Diwali does not stand for
everything beautiful and magical. The festival symbolizes triumph of good over evil and of right
over wrong. However, over the recent years, this auspicious day has also turned out to be a strain
on living standards. From financial crunch after mindless shopping, jam packed dirty roads to air
quality levels dwindling to dangerous numbers, the signs are distressing! Is this how we value

Portability Of The Electrical Hardware Housing Structure...
Portability
Many properties of our prototype contributed to its portability. The electrical hardware housing
structure for our prototype measured in at 7.375 x 6.375 x 5.000 , which allowed for a small yet
fully functional device. These relatively small dimensions allowed us to easily transport our
prototype without concern of having to make accommodations for its size. Our prototype was
composed of simple PVC plastic sheets. We cut these sheets to the desired dimensions and attached
them using bent aluminum sheet metal. We used 6 32 threaded nuts and bolts to fasten the metal
angle brackets to the PVC sheets. This combination of materials and fasteners used to create the
housing structure for our electrical components made for a strong, yet lightweight prototype. This
strength allowed for our structure to be free standing and added a component of durability without
adding to the size or weight significantly. Also, this housing structure contained all of our wires and
components meaning that there were no extraneous pieces protruding from the structure. This
uniform structure kept components from getting snagged by outside materials during transport. By
producing the prototype from these materials at the given dimensions, we were able to create a
prototype structure that displayed durability, strength, and functionality while remaining quite
portable.

The Benefits of Xenotransplantation Essay
The Benefits of Xenotransplantation
New technology has opened many doors of opportunity for advancements in medical science. Not
even in our wildest dreams would we have imagined a world where animal organs could be safely
transplanted into humans. A few years ago, this process called xenotransplantation, was completed
for the very first time. The only dilemma critics had with the process involved the chances of
infection and organ rejection from the patient. Through experimentation and advances made in the
process, these problems have been greatly reduced. Some doctors believe that xenotransplantation
will perfect our world one transplant at a time by providing an alternate route to waiting on donor
lists. Xenotransplantation is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of an experiment that lacks a purpose and may be open for ethical debate would be
when scientists blowtorched pigs with no painkillers and observed to see how they responded to
third degree burns (MacKenzie 424). Notice the difference between this experiment and research
for xenotransplantation? Experiments on animals for xenotransplantation research have a great use
for human medicine since the process may very well be our solution to lengthy donor lists and
organ shortages. An estimated 65,000 Americans suffering from organ failure are currently waiting
for an organ transplant and the number is continuously growing (Fung 54). Many people die each
year because suitable donors are not found in time, so any progress towards expanding the number
of organs available for transplantation will eventually save human lives. Since pigs are of similar
size and anatomy to humans they are the preferred animals for transplants, even over apes
(Kaebnick 7). The fact that pigs are used over apes actually suppresses animal rights activist s
debate on the ethical standpoint since pigs are not endangered.
Xenotransplantation is an important advancement in medical science because of the positive impacts
the process has on humans, such as saving lives and providing an alternative to waiting on a
lengthy donor list when

The Ethics Of Using Stem Cells
A fairly new area of research has emerged in which scientists are looking into using stem cells for
various sources. One of the major problems that arose with this new area of research was the
ethics of using embryonic stem cells (ESCs) to conduct research. This brought up problems,
especially within the Catholic Church, as to when does life first begin. Taking these undeveloped
embryos was seen as taking the life of an unborn child. New insights into this area of research
have shed light onto alternative methods of studying using stem cells. This includes the
reprogramming of various cells into a state that can be programmed into various tissue types in
the body. Of course as promising as this area of research sounds, there are many implications that
need to be studied further before scientists are ready to administer such treatment to patients on a
large scale. This paper will seek to familiarize readers with stem cells, the idea of pluripotency,
what cellular reprogramming is, the benefits and drawbacks of cellular reprogramming, and
applications of reprogramming. For starters, a stem cellis an undifferentiated cell that is capable of
regenerating itself or becoming induced into a specific tissue or organ for specialized functions
under certain physiological functions. All stem cells have the following three things in common:
they are capable of renewing and dividing themselves over an extended period of time, they are not
specialized, and they are able to give rise

My Science Experience
When I was about seven years old, about a week after school got out for the summer, I burnt my
entire stomach with boiling water solely because I was trying to cook Kraft mac and cheese
with the sun. If there s anything I learned from this experience, it s that if you need to say
something, don t keep quiet. When I was a little girl, I had always hated barbies and disney
princesses with a passion. I thought they were stupid, and the barbies I did have were hidden in
the back of me and my brother s shared closet. What I did like to do, however, was science
experiments. I would mix things together and pour them on the grass to see what would happen,
or do basically anything that made a mess. One day, I had the ingenious idea to try and cook mac
and cheese using the power of the sun on a ninety degree day. I dug a small, toy plastic spaghetti
pot out of the back of my closet where it was sitting with various fake food items and cooking
utensils. Somehow, I climbed onto the countertop and managed to reach the top shelf where the
elbow noodles were located, and poured them into the pot along with sink water hot enough it hurt
my hands a little. Then, I went outside and sat down on the rough wooden porch with the pot in my
hands, waiting for the noodles to cook. After about fifteen minutes, my grandmother opened the
door and saw me there. Of course, she had no clue what I was trying to do. She assumed that the

The City And Parts Of The Soul
Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that
human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on
infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are
ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make
the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is
important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else
(I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and
working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every
individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further
applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul.
In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation.
For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the
auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds
with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. The virtues are
wisdom for the ruling, courage for the warriors and moderation for the working class. In addition,
that we need to hone in what skills or

Mephastophilis Quotes
Mephastophilis is a great substance to Marlowe s play. With being a servant to Lucifer,
Mephastophilis enlists people willing to pledge their souls to the Devil. With Dr. Faustus,
Mephastophilis convinces Faustus to pledge his soul for years worth of necromantic magic. The

The Influence Of Stereotyping
When we first meet a new person, we are all guilty of creating judgements and stereotypes based on
things such as culture, appearance, and initial personality. Someone meeting me for the first time
would likely judge my culture by labeling me as white, a country girl, a Christian, Midwestern, and
a blonde. Individual stereotypes they would initially give me might include, young, quiet, mature,
weird, and caring. Stereotyping can be found all around us. It is constantly in the media, including
the Internet, television, and movies. Family and friends certainly influences our initial thoughts
about others, too. The people that we spend time with and trust are often those that we tend to
reflect. For example, I come from a pretty welcoming family, so I tend to be open when I meet

Sweeney Todd Analysis
Sweeney Todd 2005 Review Sweeney Todd is composed by the spectacular Stephen Sondheim,
and this production was directed by John Doyle in 2005. This Musical is about a barber
Benjamin Barker/Sweeney Todd who s sent away by Judge Turpin because he wanted Todd s
wife. Todd is told by his friend Mrs. Lovett that his wife died and his daughter Johanna is being
kept by Turpin who is planning to marry her. Todd vows that he will take revenge on The Judge.
As Sweeney awaits his revenge, he works as a barber and kills his clients while Mrs. Lovett runs a

and the way the pieces are written. Therefore, I will not be able to talk about each track.

Lovett has just told Todd what had happened to his wife and daughter, and Todd is incredibly
angry and ready to kill the judge. After, Mrs. Lovett gives a case of Todd s old razors to him and
says you could be a Barber again . The song starts with a repetitive, hypnotic motion in the piano.
Also vocally this is awfully rigid and has a whispery quality to it. Todd goes into a trance like
state and the only entity he can focus on is the razors. As the song goes on Mrs. Lovett chimes
in with telling Todd how she fancies him, but Todd remains fully invested in his razors almost as
if they were another human being. The number closes with Todd in immense triumph as he
states at last my right arm is complete again . The performances in this number are okay,
Michael Cerveris has a fine grasp of this character. The joy is heard in his voice towards the
conclusion of the song when he s talking about what he will achieve with the razors. Yet
throughout the song he s incredibly staccato on his sections where he should be legato, it s fairly
distracting. While Patti LuPone has an odd way of shaping her vowels, this makes it difficult to
hear her text. Also the speed in the section where Todd and Lovett are singing together is too
slow. It s a point in immense joy for both of them and the music should be faster because of that.
Overall the track isn t the best version of My Friends out there, however it s still enjoyable to hear

Skincare Procedure
If you are thinking of switching from one skincare brand to another, it is better to test the quality of
your existing skincare products first.
The first test is for mildness of your toner. Mildness of skincare products is extremely important
for those having sensitive or acne skin. Mildness can be tested by the PH value of the skincare
products. Get yourself a PH paper and drop some toner onto the PH paper. If the toner is acidic, the
PH paper turns red. If the toner is alkaline, the PH paper turns blue. PH around 5.5 to 7 is the best
for your skin. Toner with PH4 5 is able to remove excess horny layer and tighten facial pores.
The second test is for absorbency of your skincare essence. The higher the absorbency means the
more nutrients you skin can absorb. Prepare a pile of cotton pad or facial tissue. Add one drop of
your essence onto the first piece of cotton pad or facial tissue (of the pile). Find out how many
layer is the essence able to penetrate. The more layers the essence penetrates, the higher is the
absorbency. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brief Summary Of The Novel The Wars By Robert Ross
Generally it is noticed or said that innocent or hurt people can feel the pain of everyone even
animals and/plants. Likewise this novel revolves around Robert Ross; a protagonist in the novel
the wars , who is innocent and cares for animals. He joins the Canadian army at the age of
nineteen to avoid the guilt of his sister Rowena s tragic death following the slaughter of her
beloved rabbits.
When we talk about wars we mean it as a conflict between two forces, states or nations. Similarly,
this novel also holds the theme of World WarI (fight between French/English with Germans
/Italians) where Robert as an army officer fights the war. Simultaneously, in the morphological way
he is fighting the battle of his own moralities (fighting his inner conflicts; doing the right or ... Show

The war does not only leaves physical lifetime scars on a soldier but also mental scars which
could remain with him for lifetime. We can say that the person who suffers the most is the
soldier because he is the one who goes through continuous pain. After seeing so much destruction
the soldiers go insane, they go through mental illness and psychological trauma, they try to
attempt suicide, they get flashbacks of those disastrous events that stops them to live a normal
life after. We re all strange, Robert thought. Everyone is strange in a war I guess. Ordinary is a
myth (Findley 101). As the wars are so anxious soldiers fight for days, weeks and months
without sleeping, eating, bathing; they lack basic nessecties of life. As Robert states, All he
[Robert] wanted was a dream. Escape. But nobody dreams on a battlefield. There isn t any sleep

Metaphors In Poetry
M S Essay
Hope is the thing with Feather пјЊ by Emily DickinsonпјЊ and The Path not taken пјЊ by Robert
FrostпјЊare poems that skillfully use metaphors and symbolisms to emphasize the theme of how
hope and decisions have a considerable impact on our lives. While hope allows us to conquer
difficult moments that life throws at us, decision also plays an important role in our lives, for it
determines what path we will go and determines our future.
Robert Frost created a poem about the journey of life. The diverging road in the yellow wood is
used to symbolize a person s life. It symbolizes the different paths that people will encounter in
their lives and suggest the different life people are going to have when choosing different paths. In
the poem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the use of metaphor and symbolism, the theme is easily developed. Hope is a word that
delivers an abstract meaning of what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the
best . The image of a bird perches in the soul and sings the sweetest gale both suggests how hope
is the necessary inspiration human s need in life to motivate them. Hope stays alive in human s
mind, with inspiration and motivation never stop[ping] . Although the song it sings is without
the word , the message it delivers can always be felt. Hope is also strong and undefeatable; it
sings its songs in the chilliest land and strangest sea and can only be destroyed by the sorest
storm . It experiences all circumstances and is always there to overcome problems. Aside from all
the help hope provided, its help is also unrequited, for it has never asked a crumb of me (15).
While hope helps human to overcome suffering in their lives, The Road not taken implies the theme
of the importance of making choices since the choice one makes will change one s whole life. It is
true that many regret not taking the other choice, which is the road not taken in the poem, but
humans will realize that the choice they choose determines their identity. The narrator knows
that his choice will make all the difference since the destination each road leads to will be totally
different. When facing two equally attractive choices, it is even harder to make a decision. The
narrator struggles with letting go and he even thinks about saving the road not taken for another
day. However, once a choice is made, there is no turning back. Ages and ages hence , the narrator
looks back and tells his decision with a sign and regrets his decision of taking the road less traveled

Junior College Student Analysis
In High school I was a C plus B minus student, which was a substandard grade point average. Due
to academic and financial reasons, I was confined to a Junior college. Nevertheless, making that the
best decision that was ever made for me.
Union County College gave me a second chance to truly grow into the student I am today. In all
honesty, I was reluctant to go to a Junior college. From high school, I wanted to go straight to a
four year, the way that it should be. Alas, my path was not outlined that way; and instead of
looking at the negatives, I sought out the complete opposite. In high school, I did not put forth by
best efforts as I was complacent with being just an average student. With moving forward, I
discovered the error of my ways and made an oath not to underestimate myself as a student.
After abandoning that negative mindset, I became the student that I envisioned for myself. In
academia, I have achieved three point six great point average, and by the time I graduate I am
hoping to raise it to a three point eight. Not only am I currently in two honor societies (Psi Beta

Abstract This paper will discuss some of the forms of violence that occurs following disasters.
Natural and man made disasters may result in significant devastation, causing a total collapse of the
affecting community, the law enforcement that oversees the community, availability of health care,
the displacement of people; all are contributing factors to potential violence. The resulting impact of
the affected community is significantly compounded on the most vulnerable. Emergency personnel

Abstract Electricity is not just an option for passenger cars. Hybrid and all electric technologies
are moving into delivery trucks, garbage trucks, and tractor trailers, as well as into other more out
of sight vehicles, all of which literally help keep our economy moving. For these medium and
heavy duty trucks, the goals of electrification are the same as with cars: reducing pollution, oil
consumption (in trucks, usually diesel fuel), and fuel costs. Expanding the use of electrification
technologies is a key strategy for doubling the fuel efficiency of trucks and for helping to cut our
nation s projected oil consumption in half over the next 20 years. In
2010, freight hauling trucks consumed 2.3 million barrels of oil per day more than we currently
import from the Persian Gulf and emitted 348 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.

Chariots Of Fire Research Paper
Even heard of the movie Chariots of Fire? I personally have never seen the full movie until I had
to watch it for class. The movie Chariots of Fire is about two determined young male runners that
train for the 1924 Olympics in Paris. One man is a devoted Christian that runs for God, and refuses
to run on the Sabbath day. The other man is Jewish and just runs to win. The movie talks about the
1920 s culture, different religions, and the Olympics.
Something that struck me about the movie Chariots of Fire was that the school was an all guy
college. If there are any colleges that are all guys or all girls now; those schools are very rare.
Additionally is that most college are not religious affiliated; the colleges allow more than one

The professors back in the 1920 s wore judge capes; which is very different for what the
professors wear today. Furthermore the guys wore suits and ties, and the females wear flapper
style dress. Something that really shocked me was that most girls wore hats, so that the couple
could hide their kiss; which is kind of the opposite of now days. Now days in movies and outside of
movies people kiss in public and do not really care who is around them or looking.
Overall no matter where the people went they had their formal wear on for formal dinner, church,
to go to the movie theaters and even track meets. For track meets the track uniform was long
shorts, and a big shorts sleeve shirt. That is way different from the uniform these days. The
uniform for track these days are short shorts, and a tank top shirt, or a unitard for track.
One of the runners in the movie named Eric Liddell is a devoted Christian. Liddell compares faith
with running a race, and runs because he feels His pleasure. He wins for God, and he feels like it
honors Him. Because of Liddell s religion he would not race in 100 meter dash that happened on
a Sunday. He feels like running on a Sunday would be against His law; which is his own personal

Weed Science Project
Project Description:
The project consisted in a quick guide that can be used as an emergency kit for new graduate
students within the Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science Department. At the beginning
of the program, students tend to become overwhelmed by the information provided through
orientations or paperwork to be done; therefore, they might dedicate less attention to subjects as
Ethic, Plagiarism, Honor Code, etc. In addition, a certain nervousness may arise, as they begin to
study or hear about these concepts, due to the complexity. Things get worse when orientations are
missed, because the information that can help make the transition easier is omitted.
With this guide, I intended to provide a short summary, highlighting topics and tools that students
should focus in the beginning, and this can be to some extent more helpful for those who have been
out of the school for a long time or are coming from a different educational system.
The topics recommended in the project included, Honor Code, Graduate Student Handbook, citation

The Importance Of Popular Religion
Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society
focuses on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to
Robert Ellwood, Popular religion can be considered a sector and a very important sector of
popular culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is
understood and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly
nonreligious popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into
religious icons (131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in
108 years, the Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago
celebrated immensely for this huge honor given to them.
The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago.
Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion,
individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a
holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while
children are given a break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated.
The entire city of Chicago gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this
day is not a holiday at all. The parade is like a ritual in religion, because of all the things Chicago
did that

An Interview to Compare Adult Learners
The purpose of this 10 minutes interview with three different individuals in age ranges of 20 s, 40

With the use of some questionnaires, the three interviews have shown that in different age ranges

depending on the age of an individual. The ability to keep information within an individual also

Review Of The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
I remember when I was in the eighth grade, the entire class was assigned a project revolving
around the Holocaust: each rotation of classes brought us all into the next level of this month long
project. In one class, we made scale models of what we thought would be a proper shelter for
hiding in and in another, we read Holocaust era literature, such as Anne Franks Diary and Eli Wiesel
s Night. In what was normally our History class, we watched and read The Devil s Arithmetic.
Written by Jane Yolen, the story follows that of a young girl whose family is experiencing Passover.
When showing her disinterest in the event, she is transported to Auschwitz during World War II to

Gold Coast Drivers Case Study
Problem Statement
How can Gold Coast drivers contribute to the sustainability of the Great Barrier Reef whilst idling

Gold Coast vehicle owners are currently faced with concerns relating to the amount of carbon
emissions being released into the atmosphere whilst idling in traffic congestion. This is highlighted
through their daily, lengthy car journeys caused by the increase in population. Although these
carbon emissions have a direct impact on the immediate environment it is also contributing to the
decline of coral growth on the Great Barrier Reef.
Situated along the Queensland coastline the Great Barrier Reef stretches 2,300km from the north of
Bundaberg to the tip of northern Queensland, making it the largest living structure in the world

A Critical Literature Review On Highway Asset Management
1.1Context In this critical literature review I am going to investigate what guidance and
information is currently available on the use of recycled content asphalt and research some of the
more innovative methods that are being trialled and utilised. The current economic climate in the
UK is placing additional pressures on highway authorities to increase efficiency within their capital
and operational spends. It has been suggested that using high recycled content asphalt mixes can
play a large role in reducing the costs and environmental impacts of highway maintenance plans
(Metcalfe, 2016). 1.2Highway Asset Management With so many stakeholders depending on the

would suffer. As the most valuable asset owned by the public sector it is crucial that it is managed

Don t Try The Hair Dryer Trick You may be thinking that the best way to dry out your key is to
apply heat to it. Whether your mind has turned to your hair dryer or your microwave, both these
dry out ideas are bad ones. As previously stated, transponder keys have small computer chips in

high doses of heat from a hair dryer is going to fry the circuitry so it never works again.
Additionally, putting metal in a microwave is one way of starting a house fire so this is
definitely not a good idea either. If your transponder key refuses to work after the rice bag trick, or

The Negative Aspects Of Social Media
A picture is worth their pride. A picture is worth their self esteem. A picture is worth their

such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are rising in popularity, not only amongst

media apps and how its usage affects people, particularly young adolescents. Sociological and
psychological literature on the phenomenon of media effects has shown that exposure to media
depictions of the thin ideal can have damaging effects for women (Groesz, et al 1 16). The ease
of access to thousands of pictures that have been photoshopped, edited and altered, tweets and

requirements is major factors to consider when selecting research questions. Sauro (2013)
discussion of the researchprocess provides further details on the factors that contribute to the
successful research question selection.
In selecting a successful research question, the research must be able to identify the researcher
must see the need for this particular study, define the issue, and to find solution or solutions to
resolve it. The research should provide a clear picture for the researcher to discover if the
research question can be solved. How, What, When and Why are major contributing factors, How
is to analyze how the research will be carried out. When, is the appropriate timing that suits all
stakeholders that involved and what the type of study is? The researcher has to be mindful of the
topic chosen, it is vital that the topic is of interest; otherwise, the research may become
insignificant, inconsistent or even inadequate. Why is it significant to conduct a research as such?
Daniel (2015) added that these questions are pertinent, as it acts as an evaluator as to determine if
the research question is unclear.
The Collection of data is another factor which contributes to the research question it gives light to

Ceremony Of Loss Essay
When the first ceremony took place, a couple was given a male newchild named Caleb as a
replacement child. To begin with, according to The Giver, the first Caleb, who was 4 years old,
wandered away unnoticed, and had fallen into a river, and had died. As a result, the Ceremony of
Loss occurred, which is murmuring the name throughout the whole day, less often, quieter, so that
the child is forgotten. To add on, this incident shows that the community tried to eliminate any
dangerous situations because perhaps the death of the first Caleb could cause problems by
frightening the rest of the community and in an attempt to to prevent this, they make sure the child
who died, in this case, is forgotten. The text, The Giver, says, Loss of a child... Show more content

Like usual, they forgot about what happened, even if it s a death. To continue on, they had a
special order in which the community marked the first Caleb s loss and the new Caleb s
placement. When the first Caleb died, they had the Ceremony of Loss, which was when they
completely forgot about him and as stated by The Giver, so that the little Four seemed to fade
away gradually from everyone s consciousness. This explains that slowly, they erased a child from
their minds because they didn t want to face the fact that you can t protect everyone from
everything and that not everything will stay the same forever. They marked the new Caleb s
replacement by performing another ceremony known as the Murmur of Replacement. This was
directly the opposite of the Ceremony of Loss, and instead of the name slowly disappearing, it
gradually became imprinted into everyone s minds once more. The community murmured it quietly
and slowly, and progressively, their voices became louder and

Zika Fever Essay
The aim of this study is to explore Zika virus infection from ethical dimensions, to determine
methods of struggle carried out by policy makers. The target audience is media and social
researchers, as well as scientists who deal with that disease. The purpose of this research is to
answer the question what is the best way to struggle and prevent Zika virus from ethical standpoint.
Zika is an illness brought on by Zika infection that is spread to individuals principally through the
nibble of a contaminated Aedes species mosquito. The most well known side effects of Zika are
fever, rash, joint agony, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The disease is generally mellow with
indications going on for a few days to a week in the wake of being nibbled by a tainted mosquito. In

medical community either presumably for the reason that the number of victims was not so big (15

Impact Of The Industrial Revolution On The World Essay
Since the first time an image was transported to a laptop screen or a handheld device was used to
communicate to people in other countries, the world has been a system of calls, emails, texts, and
networks that are all categorized under the term technology. We started off with technology that
helped us forage for food or manage our livestock. However, tech today is a basis of
telecommunications and the use of different mechanical mechanisms that are seemingly robotic.
How far we have come from the beginning of the first civilizations to what we are able to do now
illustrates the impact of the industrial revolution and, some may say, tech revolution. We are still
booming and at every corner that is turned new advancements are introduced into society that was
not thought about before. It seems that we should be all tech savvy and a life without technology
would be a little unnerving to say the least. Others say that this dependence makes robots or us less
human. Throughout the research conducted on technology, there were news articles assumingly
concluding that we are humans merging with technology and turning into robots and another
similarly arguing that we need to become cyborgs or risk humans being turned into robots. These
may not be scholarly articles but are interesting to see and notice the perspective that people believe
to be true. The extremely absurd notion that we are so heavily dependent on technology that we
will turn into robots may actually be true.

The Potential Problem Of Social Workers
The potential problem of social workers and lawyers/magistrates or judges working together is
that social worker might not be mindful of legal expectations and requirements (Kennedy
Richards, 2007). The roles and functions of lawyer and social worker are very dissimilar as well
as their histories, cultures and rituals (Kennedy Richards, 2007). Lawyer s purposes are limited
and tangible so they find it difficult to understand that social worker s purposes are not (Rice Day,
2014). Social workers find law as a part of their solution but not the complete resolution of the
problem (Dickens, 2008). Their main goal is to pursuit equitable access to social, economic,
environmental and political resources (Kennedy Richards, 2007). Law... Show more content on

They need to make sure they acknowledge the points at which legal interventions and remedies can
prove effective and to seek to use them for the betterment of the community as a whole, and their
clients in particular (Kennedy, Richards Leiman, 2013). The practice of neither law nor social work
is value neutral and practitioners in both professions need to consider the consequences of their
interventions and their failure of the intervene (Rand, 2006). Social workers and lawyers must
maintain an analytical and informed perspective about the human service and legal systems (Rice
Day, 2014). Differences must be understood and accepted before personal reconciliation and
integrated practice are possible. Partnership between law and social work could be hard but their
knowledge and skills need to be shared for maintaining an efficient and sustainable relationship. In
relation to disadvantage and protection of vulnerable people, the main goal of both lawyer and
social worker can be same by seeking the same outcomes or changes (Kennedy Richards, 2007).
Hence, they can form powerful relationship to further common goals by ensuring human rights are
supported and maximised justice and fairness.
There are several main witness roles that social worker can participate. This requires preparation,
practice and attitudinal flexibility (Rice and Day,

What Skills Are Important In The Importance Of Phonemic...
1.Define phonemic awareness. What skills are important in the instruction of phonemic awareness?
a.Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, isolate, identify, and manipulate the discrete sounds of
language, this only involves the sounds of speech and not the letters or words.
b.The skills important when instructing phonemic awareness are concepts of print, recognizing
/producing rhyme, syllable tasks, blending syllables, phonemic tasks and onset and rime (word
families). When instructing phonemic awareness, the reader should emphasize sounds and use
visual and oral instruction whenever possible, such as manipulatives.
2.Why is visualization such an important comprehension skill for readers? How can we teach
visualization to struggling readers?
a.Visualization, or mental imagery, helps students make a picture of the readingin their minds by
relating text to personal experiences from prior knowledge. Visualization is such an important
comprehension skill because students cannot remember what they are reading if they cannot picture
the story in their head. It would be similar to memorizing text and having no techniques to
remember the text. However, by visualizing, the reader is creating a personal connection with the
text and activating prior knowledge. Therefore, they are able to picture and recall what they are
reading.
b.We can teach visualization to struggling readers, specifically students with disabilities, by having
them think about what they see, hear, smell,

Case Study: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. v. Saw Pipes, AIR 2003 SC 2629
In one of the most controversial Indian Judgement ONGC v. Saw Pipes Limited, Supreme Court
widened the scope of Public Policy. ONGC had placed an order on Saw Pipes for supply of
equipment for off shore exploration to be procured from approved European manufacturers. The
delivery was delayed due to general strike of steel mill workers in Europe.
Disputes arose as Saw Pipes was not able to conform to the delivery time and the strike went on
for 2 months. ONGC deducted a large sum from the bills on account of delay as Liquidated
damages caused. The matter was referred to arbitration and an award was passed in the favour of
Saw Pipes. ONGC challenged this award the Supreme Court concluded that ONGC was justified in
deducting the amount and the arbitrators were wrong in awarding the amount with interest and set
aside the award. The Court held that any arbitral award which violates Indian statutory provisions
is patently illegal and contrary to public policy .
The ONGC case s decision was widely criticized in the International community. Three years later
the Supreme Court had an opportunity to refer the matter to a larger Bench which it did not though
it accepted that ONGC s case had invited considerable adverse comments.

The Pros And Cons Of Gaining A Handgun
Would or Should You Loan Someone Your Handgun or Any Firearm
Pursuant to 18 USC 922(a)(5), it is unlawful for any person...to transfer, sell, trade, give, transport,
or deliver any firearm to any person who the transferor knows or has reasonable cause to believe
does not reside in the state in which the transferor resides, or is otherwise prohibited from
possessing a firearm (Cornell University).
Legally you have an obligation when loaning a handgun to someone. If you could know then you
should know that the person you loan a handgun to can legally possess a firearm. This means you
have to do your due diligence before agreeing to loan anyone your handgun.
In legal terms, it is your responsibility to know if the person you loan a handgun to can legally
possess one. How would you know if they had a felony conviction or there is some other reason
they cannot legally possess one? You wouldn t unless you tell them that a condition of the loan is
that they produce a current background check, (yes you can order a check on yourself, pay the fee
and collect the information). Aside from that, however, why should you ever loan anyone your

Quality Management in Business
Introduction
In the business context, quality management is a broad concept. Customer demands quality in a
product rather than price. So, organization must focus on the quality enhancement. Quality usually
leads to increasing cost. Business organizations have to manage quality in such a way that it leads to
as minimum cost as possible. Not every organization can do this. But, it should be their main goal
and objective of structuring their business. In the competitive market, quality management is the
most important term that is to be considered in every process.

Mozilla thinks the best approach is empowering the employee. They introduce many incentives to

1.4 Explain the similarities and differences between the different methods.
Total quality management system involves handling, controlling and directing to achieve
excellence. There are four main methods used in quality management system; ISO series, six sigma,
lean and business process reengineering. There exist similarities and differences among the four
methods. The differences among the methods exist in the application of each.
ISO standard focuses on the performance consistency for quality product, where Six Sigma
measures of the quality strives for the near perfection. Lean production concerns for the reduction
of quantity of resources used. Business process reengineering involves the change of people and
other aspects for the changing technology (Andersson, Eriksson Torstensson, 2006).
Each method benefits the company by improving process, reducing cost and eliminating cost.
Improving process:
Each of the four methods concerns about the current process used by the company. Employees
review current processes and find ways how to make the process more efficient. Effects of
methods are also considered. Effects of using one method are cost of producing product, pressure
on employee and quality of the final product.

The study of humanities allows us to explore the ways in which the changing concepts of nature

our views of the changes that occur and helps to explain how and why the concepts evolved the
way they did. The Middle Ages provided a unique chapter in the history of the humanistic tradition.

In the legal and social realm, the Magna Carta was one of the first documents in history to
guarantee rights and freedoms for the common people. The document which is the foundation of
our liberties , the Magna Carta was truly a remarkable new idea in the beginning of the rise out
of the feudal system. For the first time, subjects of the King were demanding certain rights, which
were never even thought of as rights before this document was drafted in 1215 C.E. Lastly,
technology itself was setting the stage for the dawning of the age of exploration. All of these
developments as well as others would set the stage for man s great awakening out of the Middle

Gothic architecture dominated the architectural style of Western Europe for over 400 years. The
Gothic style was not only used in Churches but it also was seen in whole towns. Gothic architects
designed courthouses, hospitals, town halls and royal palaces. It was in its churches where we see
the amazing glorification of God and the intentional subordination of man with the advent of this
style. The transcendental character of medieval religious architecture was given a special form in
the Gothic church. Medieval man considered himself but an imperfect В‘refraction of the Divine

The current challenges facing traditional colleges and universities, including higher tuition, budget
cuts, and course shortages, have caused many students to search for alternatives (1). Currently a lot
of students apply for classes that have the option to take the online course over the traditional
course. Then, they wonder which method would best suit them and be more convenient. In
addition, the open educationdatabase says that, Nearly three million students currently enrolled in
fully online degree programs and six million taking at least one online course as part of their
degree program, online education has clearly become one of the most popular higher education
alternatives (1). It comes down to finding the best type of education courses that adapts to student s
desires. The best type would be an online course of learning because it has a flexible scheduling
and it s very convenient and the overall cost of tuition is better than traditional education.
One of the top reason college students choose online courses over traditional college courses is
because cost is their number one priority. In the article titled, Younger Students Increasingly Drawn

Faretta V. California Case Study
The United States Constitution sets forth that the Sixth Amendment assures that in all criminal
tribunals, the defendant shall enjoy the right to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. In
addition to the right to counsel, the Sixth Amendment guarantees the right to waive assistance of
counsel and the right to conduct one s own defense. The Faretta v. California case set aside a
conviction because Faretta was convicted after the trial court proceedings which forced him to
accept a public defender. Now that an overview of the Sixth Amendments Right to Counsel has

The problem with the Sixth Amendment under the Supreme Court s jurisprudence regarding
waiver of counsel needs to be refurbished. The initial stance that was introduced in Godinez v.
Moran was too low for a defendant to conduct his/her defense. Issues were raised because
defendants are supposed to adopt the right of self representation knowing and intelligently that he
/she can in fact represent himself effectively in a court of law. With that being said, before a
defendant accept a waiver of the right to counsel, the judge must first and foremost ensure that the
defendant is mentally competent to make such a decision to represent himself and that such
decision has been knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily (Slogan, 2008). The Constitution does
not allow trial to be conducted of defendants who lack mental competence process (Indiana v.
Edwards). The next topic that will be highlighted on is how the United States Supreme Court took

Innocence in The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger Essay
One of the purist times in a person s life is childhood, during this time life is easy and often
romanticized. As a person grows older the innocence and naivety of childhood begins to fade into
a hardness caused by the harsh realties of adulthood. Though the transition from childhood is hard,
one most remember not to rush into adulthood savor your innocence . In Catcher In the Rye , by
J.D. Salinger the main character Holden Caulfield is in the transitional stage, he finds it hard for
him to grow up and act like an adult. So instead of rushing in to adulthood, he finds slowing down

he talked about his brother Allie that passed away it is always good. The quote that sums up his
feelings towards Allies is, he was a nice kid. (Salinger 38) He relies on Allie when he has a
problem or needs to think things through. When he was contemplating his leave and walking to
give Phoebe her letter he talked to the ghost of Allie. The other sibling is Phoebe, Phoebe seem to
be the apple of his eye. When he thought about leaving he only wanted and needed to say good
bye to Phoebe and no one else. The way he talks about D.B. is very different then the way he
rants on about his younger siblings, he never talks bad or factious about D.B. he just doesn t
praise him as much. He views D.B. As phony and a Hollywood sellout. In many aspects the
siblings are the same the only difference is their age and innocence level. He adores and admires
the more innocent younger siblings, while he views the oldest one as being a fake. This just
proves that Salinger thinks innocence s should be captured and cherished. Holden seem to be
weird and indifferent when it comes to females and sexual relationships. He has a made up sex life

  • 2. Christmas Day In Japan You might wonder what other people in the world are doing at this time of the year. Well, this paper will tell you all about what the Japanese people do during Christmas. You may be surprised at what they do during this special holiday. In Japan they do celebrate Christmas, but surprisingly celebrating Christmasis not their number one priority. Another tradition that many Japanese people do on Christmas and Christmas eve is the Disney Christmas Parade. The Disney Christmas Parade is when they have a parade with many Disney characters who pass out candy and do some cool tricks. Not only do they celebrate it like a valentine s day, but they also have many favorite foods. Some of their favorite foods that they have are KFC and strawberry shortcake. It may sound weird that they eat KFC on Christmas eve and Christmas day, but it is a tradition around Japan. KFC in Japan was first introduced when a Japanese family could not find any turkey for Christmas and so they ate fried chicken instead. The KFC manager saw his opportunity and decide to run a campaign called Kentucky for Christmas . Kentucky for Christmas was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Origins Of The American Mafia INTRODUCTION Since their beginning, American society has been fascinated with the gangster lifestyle and the American Mafia is no exception to this trend. Mafia themed movies such as Scarface and Goodfellas have proven to be timeless classics. However, the American Mafia goes deeper than the media shows. While they do have the same name, the American Mafiais a group of Italian Americans and is not directly affiliated with the original Sicilian Mafia. The American Mafia is a highly organized and complex nationwide criminal network with a membership hierarchy and a strict set of values. HISTORY The origin of the American Mafia can be traced back to the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. Thousands of Italians flocked to America in hopes of better economic opportunities. Between 1880 and 1910, the Italian population in New York alone increased by 2400%, from 20,000 to 500,000. While the majority of the Italian immigrant were good and law abiding citizens, a minority formed small neighborhood gangs that would later become one of the largest organized crime gangs in the United States. During the 1920 s Prohibition era, the 18th Amendment was in full swing and the manufacture, sale, and distribution of alcohol was strictly banned. The budding American Mafia took this as a business opportunity and turned to bootlegging. They were incredibly successful at this and their crime regime also grew to include money laundering, smuggling, and bribing officials. Meanwhile in Italy, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sun Also Rises By Earnest Hemingway Monica Lackey ENG 1113 Cristie Hooker 21 November 2014 THE SUN ALSO RISES a.In The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway, there are two main settings: France and Spain. The novel begins in Paris, France with the narrator and protagonist, Jake Barnes lives and immerses himself in his journalism. Paris is known to be a place of great beauty, and was a common place for many writers to reside in the 1920 s. This initial setting of Paris served to contrast the excitement and beauty yet corruption and uneasiness that is the enigma of Paris. This is where Jake lives, he frequents bars and parallels his author Hemingway in his general detachment from the war. The second setting is in Spain where Burguete, Pamplona and Madrid are visited. Burguete is a more rustic part of the country where Jake and Bill go to be one with nature and go fishing. This setting was the most different from Pamplona and Paris, for its unadulterated nature and simplicity of the landscape. However, the fiesta in Pamplona was a grand event where Brett was moved by Pedro Romero. Pamplona was a small city known for its bull fighting, and the place where tension unfolds when the main characters get drunk and fight for Brett s affection. The settings in this novel are parallel to the events that unfold there. b.One of the possible themes of The Sun Also Rises is fear of emasculation and the effects of castration, both literally and figuratively speaking. • 12. Portability Of The Electrical Hardware Housing Structure... Portability Many properties of our prototype contributed to its portability. The electrical hardware housing structure for our prototype measured in at 7.375 x 6.375 x 5.000 , which allowed for a small yet fully functional device. These relatively small dimensions allowed us to easily transport our prototype without concern of having to make accommodations for its size. Our prototype was composed of simple PVC plastic sheets. We cut these sheets to the desired dimensions and attached them using bent aluminum sheet metal. We used 6 32 threaded nuts and bolts to fasten the metal angle brackets to the PVC sheets. This combination of materials and fasteners used to create the housing structure for our electrical components made for a strong, yet lightweight prototype. This strength allowed for our structure to be free standing and added a component of durability without adding to the size or weight significantly. Also, this housing structure contained all of our wires and components meaning that there were no extraneous pieces protruding from the structure. This uniform structure kept components from getting snagged by outside materials during transport. By producing the prototype from these materials at the given dimensions, we were able to create a prototype structure that displayed durability, strength, and functionality while remaining quite portable. Not even in our wildest dreams would we have imagined a world where animal organs could be safely transplanted into humans. A few years ago, this process called xenotransplantation, was completed for the very first time. The only dilemma critics had with the process involved the chances of infection and organ rejection from the patient. Through experimentation and advances made in the process, these problems have been greatly reduced. Some doctors believe that xenotransplantation will perfect our world one transplant at a time by providing an alternate route to waiting on donor lists. Xenotransplantation is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of an experiment that lacks a purpose and may be open for ethical debate would be when scientists blowtorched pigs with no painkillers and observed to see how they responded to third degree burns (MacKenzie 424). Notice the difference between this experiment and research for xenotransplantation? Experiments on animals for xenotransplantation research have a great use for human medicine since the process may very well be our solution to lengthy donor lists and organ shortages. An estimated 65,000 Americans suffering from organ failure are currently waiting for an organ transplant and the number is continuously growing (Fung 54). Many people die each year because suitable donors are not found in time, so any progress towards expanding the number of organs available for transplantation will eventually save human lives. Since pigs are of similar size and anatomy to humans they are the preferred animals for transplants, even over apes (Kaebnick 7). The fact that pigs are used over apes actually suppresses animal rights activist s debate on the ethical standpoint since pigs are not endangered. Xenotransplantation is an important advancement in medical science because of the positive impacts the process has on humans, such as saving lives and providing an alternative to waiting on a lengthy donor list when ... • 15. The Ethics Of Using Stem Cells A fairly new area of research has emerged in which scientists are looking into using stem cells for various sources. One of the major problems that arose with this new area of research was the ethics of using embryonic stem cells (ESCs) to conduct research. This brought up problems, especially within the Catholic Church, as to when does life first begin. Taking these undeveloped embryos was seen as taking the life of an unborn child. New insights into this area of research have shed light onto alternative methods of studying using stem cells. This includes the reprogramming of various cells into a state that can be programmed into various tissue types in the body. Of course as promising as this area of research sounds, there are many implications that need to be studied further before scientists are ready to administer such treatment to patients on a large scale. This paper will seek to familiarize readers with stem cells, the idea of pluripotency, what cellular reprogramming is, the benefits and drawbacks of cellular reprogramming, and applications of reprogramming. For starters, a stem cellis an undifferentiated cell that is capable of regenerating itself or becoming induced into a specific tissue or organ for specialized functions under certain physiological functions. All stem cells have the following three things in common: they are capable of renewing and dividing themselves over an extended period of time, they are not specialized, and they are able to give rise ... • 16. My Science Experience When I was about seven years old, about a week after school got out for the summer, I burnt my entire stomach with boiling water solely because I was trying to cook Kraft mac and cheese with the sun. If there s anything I learned from this experience, it s that if you need to say something, don t keep quiet. When I was a little girl, I had always hated barbies and disney princesses with a passion. I thought they were stupid, and the barbies I did have were hidden in the back of me and my brother s shared closet. What I did like to do, however, was science experiments. I would mix things together and pour them on the grass to see what would happen, or do basically anything that made a mess. One day, I had the ingenious idea to try and cook mac and cheese using the power of the sun on a ninety degree day. I dug a small, toy plastic spaghetti pot out of the back of my closet where it was sitting with various fake food items and cooking utensils. Somehow, I climbed onto the countertop and managed to reach the top shelf where the elbow noodles were located, and poured them into the pot along with sink water hot enough it hurt my hands a little. Then, I went outside and sat down on the rough wooden porch with the pot in my hands, waiting for the noodles to cook. After about fifteen minutes, my grandmother opened the door and saw me there. • 17. The City And Parts Of The Soul Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else (I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul. In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation. For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. After, Mrs. Lovett gives a case of Todd s old razors to him and says you could be a Barber again . The song starts with a repetitive, hypnotic motion in the piano. Also vocally this is awfully rigid and has a whispery quality to it. Todd goes into a trance like state and the only entity he can focus on is the razors. As the song goes on Mrs. Lovett chimes in with telling Todd how she fancies him, but Todd remains fully invested in his razors almost as if they were another human being. The number closes with Todd in immense triumph as he states at last my right arm is complete again . The performances in this number are okay, Michael Cerveris has a fine grasp of this character. The joy is heard in his voice towards the conclusion of the song when he s talking about what he will achieve with the razors. Yet throughout the song he s incredibly staccato on his sections where he should be legato, it s fairly distracting. While Patti LuPone has an odd way of shaping her vowels, this makes it difficult to hear her text. Also the speed in the section where Todd and Lovett are singing together is too slow. The first test is for mildness of your toner. Mildness of skincare products is extremely important for those having sensitive or acne skin. Mildness can be tested by the PH value of the skincare products. Get yourself a PH paper and drop some toner onto the PH paper. If the toner is acidic, the PH paper turns red. If the toner is alkaline, the PH paper turns blue. PH around 5.5 to 7 is the best for your skin. Toner with PH4 5 is able to remove excess horny layer and tighten facial pores. The second test is for absorbency of your skincare essence. The higher the absorbency means the more nutrients you skin can absorb. Prepare a pile of cotton pad or facial tissue. Add one drop of your essence onto the first piece of cotton pad or facial tissue (of the pile). Find out how many layer is the essence able to penetrate. The Importance Of Popular Religion Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society focuses on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to Robert Ellwood, Popular religion can be considered a sector and a very important sector of popular culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is understood and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly nonreligious popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into religious icons (131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in 108 years, the Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago celebrated immensely for this huge honor given to them. The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago. Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion, individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while children are given a break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated. The entire city of Chicago gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this day is not a holiday at all. According to Pew Research Center, in 2015, 65% of American adults now use social networking sites up from 7% back in 2005 (Perrin). Bringing people from all over the world together, social media sites have made it easier for people to communicate and interact on all different levels. Controversy still arises among the negative aspects of social media apps and how its usage affects people, particularly young adolescents. Sociological and psychological literature on the phenomenon of media effects has shown that exposure to media depictions of the thin ideal can have damaging effects for women (Groesz, et al 1 16). The ease of access to thousands of pictures that have been photoshopped, edited and altered, tweets and Facebook posts makes it hard for young adolescents to distinguish reality from fiction. They seek validation and want to be liked, so they don t have to go further than the tip of their fingers to get this as they scroll the pages of Instagram and Facebook. As a result, the Ceremony of Loss occurred, which is murmuring the name throughout the whole day, less often, quieter, so that the child is forgotten. To add on, this incident shows that the community tried to eliminate any dangerous situations because perhaps the death of the first Caleb could cause problems by frightening the rest of the community and in an attempt to to prevent this, they make sure the child who died, in this case, is forgotten. • 45. Impact Of The Industrial Revolution On The World Essay Since the first time an image was transported to a laptop screen or a handheld device was used to communicate to people in other countries, the world has been a system of calls, emails, texts, and networks that are all categorized under the term technology. We started off with technology that helped us forage for food or manage our livestock. However, tech today is a basis of telecommunications and the use of different mechanical mechanisms that are seemingly robotic. How far we have come from the beginning of the first civilizations to what we are able to do now illustrates the impact of the industrial revolution and, some may say, tech revolution. We are still booming and at every corner that is turned new advancements are introduced into society that was not thought about before. It seems that we should be all tech savvy and a life without technology would be a little unnerving to say the least. Others say that this dependence makes robots or us less human. Throughout the research conducted on technology, there were news articles assumingly concluding that we are humans merging with technology and turning into robots and another similarly arguing that we need to become cyborgs or risk humans being turned into robots. These may not be scholarly articles but are interesting to see and notice the perspective that people believe to be true. The extremely absurd notion that we are so heavily dependent on technology that we will turn into robots may actually be true. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
