Comparing Ophelia And Hamlet
If Only He was as Great as Her
Often times, a tragedy can bring two people together, especially lovers, yet, sometimes, it can drive
them apart. Both of them can become mad, one can become mad and not the other, or they can
become mad in two totally different ways. When tragedy strikes in Hamlet, Ophelia and Hamlet
deal with it very differently. Despite the obvious tragedies that group them together, Ophelia and
Hamlet are nothing alike at all, characteristically. In fact, Ophelia is the female version of the man
Hamlet should become because she is active and determined, transgressing her pre determined role
as a naГЇve woman.
Before one can discuss Ophelia s activeness, one must focus on Hamlet inactiveness, and why

Nevertheless, the main characters of Hamlet dismiss her advances toward them. Even though the

leads to the impending doom of the whole court. Ophelia s deliberate actions in her madness

Essay on The Impact of Fmla on Human Resources
The Impact of FMLA
(Family and Medical Leave Act) on Human Resources
Ehren Hayes
Final Research Project

Dr. Pellettiere
Introduction
According to the United States Department of Labor (DOL), The Family and Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) of 1993 mandates that employers who have 50 or more employees living within 75 miles
of the worksite, must provide a minimum of 12 weeks of unpaid job protected leave. The employee
must have worked for the organization for a minimum of 12 months and must have clocked a
minimum of 1,250 working hours within that 12 month period. Congress passed this law in 1993
under President Bill Clinton, and it is designed to help employees balance their work and family
responsibilities by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human Resource Management professionals reported issues with tracking/administering
intermittent FMLA leave, determining the overall costs incurred while complying with the
requirements of the FMLA and determining whether an intermittent serious health condition
should be protected by the FMLA. (Frincke, pg. 7) There are no statutes or policies in the FMLA
that states the employee must furnish a doctor s note, but many state regulations do require it. If
there are any questions in regards to the seriousness of the employee s condition, the employer
can ask that documentation be provided if this requirement is made known before hand. There
are also situations where an employer may dispute a doctor s recommendation and they may
require the employee to get a second opinion. The doctor will then have to determine that the
duties of the employer s job cannot be performed or the requested leave is medically necessary.
With the exception of maternity, birth or adoption of child, most employees, typically, can only
give up to a week or same days notice. Unfortunately, an episodic event or catastrophic health
issue doesn t allow for much notice. Maternity notice averaged about two months in advance.
Several legal websites, including Findlaw.com and cpmy.com state that in order to avoid
disruption in the work place, the employee s responsibility is to give reasonable notice, which is
typically 30 days. If the reason for leave is unexpected,

Complexity Science And Systems Thinking
In the prior chapter, I established both the multiplicity and malleability of identity and its role in
conflict transformation. I will now explore the literature on complexity science and systems
thinking. More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the
transformation of self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems
thinking to bring some clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that
attribute the self as a system, and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate
the various aspects of self that contribute to transformative processes. Complexity Systems
Complexity. Complexity theory, also known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a
unifying framework to understand how parts of a system and their relationships give rise to the
collective behaviors of a system, and how the system interacts and forms relationships with its
environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth for ease), identified underlying parallels in
phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations, the human immune system, the origins of
life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses,
ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy. The application is prevalent in
biology, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, neuroscience, sociology, anthropology, ecology,
psychology, and philosophy, basically

How Did King David Have Bladed Weapons
Did you know that swords were a major weapon of war during the ancient and medieval history?
They are also called the gentleman of all weapons. They were bladed weapons that have two
parts namely the blade and the handle or the hilt. Blades were made of a hard metal, steel, or
bronze. They were sharpened blades that could be single edged or double edged.
The width varied with the culture and era and so did the type of hilt. They could be one handed or
double as per the weight and maneuver of the sword. The hilt could be wood, leather, ivory or bone.
The warriors and the knights relied on swords a lot. They were brisk, agile, graceful and flexible.
Some were very elaborately decorated.
What type of sword did King David use to cut off Goliath s head? No one knows, however, the
bible says King David ran and took Goliath s sword and cut off his head . King David did not have
a sword in his hand; therefore God had to provide a sword for David because David had spoken the
words. What was already done in the spiritual ream is now being done in the natural ream.
Research, shows there are many Swords: Roman Swords are called the Gladius Sword Japanese

Seasonal Affective Disorder Research Paper
Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D) is a disorder in which people become depressed with the
changing of seasons. The more northern you live the more prone you are to experience S.A.D, in

Theme Of Manipulation In Medea
Once he began manipulating Medea, this made him realize, that he can manipulate anyone he
chooses to. After he had captured the Golden Fleece, he abandoned Medea and married the
princess of Corinth hoping to stable his wealth and gain more power. He, in turn, manipulated the
royal family only to have the consistent power he needed and desired. This had then begun to
escalate. Jasonis now displaying a pattern of his manipulation. As Jason begins to free himself
from his evil ex wife, Jason manipulates the past into a lie and much bigger problem from his
side of the story. His dishonesty makes his side of the story more believable and by doing so, his
manipulation skills had become more deceivable. Jason is in denial of the many things Medeahad
done for him and when he told his story, he used omission in order to deceive his listeners. Jason
then says, Dark threats cast out against the majesties/ of Corinth, count as veriest gain thy path of
exile. (27). He then blames Medea and having Creon ban her from Corinth.
The power of manipulation can easily be misused to aid the person who uses it. Overusing it can
harm the people who are targets to its belongings. If it is left in the hands of the villain, a large
group of people can be restrained by a solitary person. Manipulation in this play is used very
dangerously and ones actions can lead to another. Some characters take their actions too far to the
point where they begin manipulating themselves during the process. Observant and manipulative
describes the kind of woman Medea had depicted. Medea set her mind on getting revenge on a
man whom she gave up everything to be with. She fled her own country and killed her brother just
to be with a man she fell in love with. Only to find out that the one she had loved betrayed her,
used her for greed, and left her to be with a princess. The main reason for her manipulation was
only to justify her revenge on her husband, Jason. However, people stand in the way of her
revenge plan, and the only way she can do what she needs to do is by manipulating others to be
on her side. She does this in a way where she connects with others on a more personal level so
they can feel just as bad as her. In Vicarious Dishonesty:

I Had Never Even Heard Of Discourses
When I first came to RIT, I had never even heard of discourses before, let alone write an entire
essay on it in roughly a week. I suppose then that this could be considered a separate discourse
itself. When I was in high school, our teachers had us focusing on completing essays solely based
on discovering the author s purpose and using literary elements to support our thesis statements.
There it did not matter what our background was; we had to get through the work and were almost
required to write it to a perfect state, otherwise it would not be considered as collegematerial. Upon
arriving at college, the classwork attitudes changed drastically. Here near perfectionism was not
stressed and the backgrounds of students were taken into consideration for classes. With so many
discourses present it a classroom, one would think that it would be difficult to accommodate
everyone, but for me, it is a discoursethat is surprisingly easier to adjust to. Instead of having
everyone adjust to one specific discourse, everyone is permitted to their own discourses and
contribute to the community. Similarly, Williams explains how these discourses impact conflicts
that could arise between students and teachers in the academic classroom. In Home and Away: The
tensions of community, literacy, and identity, Bronwyn T. Williams argues to researchers and
teachers so that they understand that because everyone comes from different backgrounds. They all
will not learn the same way and have

Essay about Dracula vs Van Helsing
Dracula reflects both Bram Stoker s context and his interest in controversial ideas. Use Dracula and
Van Helsing to demonstrate what concepts and concerns have endured and how they have been
represented in both texts.
JUSTIN LIANG
Dracula ( novel) written by Bram stoker is a text which reflects its English Victorian era context,
where gender roles were repressed and science and religion had a conflicting relationship. Van
Helsing (Stephen Summers) is a contemporary reproduction which demonstrates the same concepts
and concerns that have endured but evolved, and so they have been represented for the modern
day audience. The evolution of the concern of Gender roles and the idea of the new woman is very

She is armed, and ready to hunt the deadliest monsters of Transylvania, something the men in the
novel would not dare to do.
The gothic convention follows the idea that female protagonist needs constant protection and being
rescued by the male is still clearly incorporated in the text. Even though Anna, is depicted as a
beautiful and physically strong girl.she still needs protection by others, but the difference between
the original convention and the contemporary view is that she is not completely weak but not as
strong as the male protagonist, Van Helsing. This reflects the contemporary Van Helsing context.
During the Victorian era, The growth in science and technology was dramatic and challenged
religious theories. One discovery that is eloquently evinced in the story is Darwin s theory of
Evolution, which reflects the novels context as it was a controversial issue of the era. This theory
is thought to be the transformation of populations in the struggle for survival as the ones with the
best characteristics will be more likely to survive, and those desirable traits are likely to be passed
off to offspring. Early in the novel, as Harker becomes more uncomfortable with his lodgings and
his host at castle Dracula, he notes, unless my senses deceive me, the old centuries had, and have,
powers of their own in which mere modernity cannot kill Here, Harker states one of the central
concerns of the Victorian Era: Supernatural,

I Have A Yong Suster
When analyzing literature, context is important because different interpretations of the same piece
can lead to very different meanings. The poem I Have A Yong Suster is a piece of Middle English
poetry that can have several meanings depending on how it is read. Some say that the poem
suggests a sexual relationship, while others say that it is an exchange between siblings. The
narrator in this poem is sent three gifts that can have different meanings depending on who sent
them. One interpretation identifies the sender as the narrator s sister, and it portrays themes of love
and innocence. Another interpretation claims that the sender is a sweetheart or lover of the
narrator, and in this interpretation, the poem represents courtship. I... Show more content on

Another important detail in this interpretation is the choice made by the author to make the sender
of these gifts a young sibling. This could be an intentional decision to strengthen the connection
between these specific gifts and young children. According to the Middle English Dictionary,
however, suster can be translated as spouse or lover . This interpretation gives the poem a sexual
twist. The first gift, the cherry, is representative of a woman s virginity. The second gift, a dove, is
typically a symbol of love. Also, they have been said to carry messages, such as the messages
between the narrator and their lover. Additionally, the briar fits into the theme of nature
symbols, and reproduction is a part of nature. The idea of the gifts being related to children also
fits into this interpretation. The narrator notes late in the poem that Whan the maiden hath that
she loveth, / She is withoute longinge (27 28). Longinge can be interpreted to mean longing, as
in wishfulness, but it can also be read as longing, as in a sexual desire. This could mean that
when a girl has the one she loves, her desire for love in a possibly sexual manner is sated.
Reading the poem with the translation of suster as lover gives it a new twist and changes some of
the meanings that can be interpreted from the poem. The meaning of lover carries on to modern
songs such as I Gave My Love A Cherry by Carly Simon in 2007. This song is often

Aging Population Burdens
A significant population growth occurred between 1946 and 1964; approximately 76 million
people were born in the United States; this group of individuals is known as the Baby boom
generation (Dohm, 2000). These individuals now average between the ages of 51 70, and make
up a vast majority of those in American whom fall in the late adulthood period of their lives.
According to Boyd and Bee (2015, p 418), young old is defined at ages 60 75, old old is 75 85 and
oldest old is 85 and older. In the United States in 2010 there were approximately 40,267,984 adults
over the age of 65; in 2014 there was an estimated 46,243,211 adults over the age of 65 (U.S.

Ethical, as defined by Merriam Webster online dictionary (2016), means right or wrong, or
following acceptable rules of behavior. The primary concern for many, who oppose scientific
research such as this, is the notion that the scientists are playing god. In other words, scientists
are messing with the natural process of the world. It could even be argued that if scientists had
left well enough alone, this increase in of individuals in the late adulthood stage of life would
not have occurred; implying that nature or God would have naturally controlled the population.
Others, like myself, might counter that it goes against God to deny the scientific gift of
discovery blessed on some people; that if given the ability to aid people, then it is ones duty to
do just that. Some perhaps, in the middle of the road, could simply question where we drawl the
line? Referring back the definition of ethical (Merriam Webster online dictionary, 2016), this
middle of the road view, may simply propose the question on if this is acceptable behavior, in
other words, what are we willing to do scientifically, for human life. Whether a person is all for
scientific advancement or completely opposed, at the end of the day it is important to ask is this
advancement truly beneficial to society and the people it affects? (van den

The setting of this performance was just in the classroom. It was very informal, which was nice.

Benefactors In Great Expectations
Benefactors
In the British classic Great Expectations, Charles Dickens uses a pair of benefactors who greatly
contrast each other to represent the dual social mindsets of society. Elusive convict Abel Magwitch
appears hostile to readers in the beginning of the story, but he later reveals himself as a selfless
laborer, working vigorously to finance young Pip s journey into becoming a gentleman. In contrast,
Miss Havisham is a venerable old woman who was jilted on her wedding day and raises her
adopted daughter to break the heart of adolescent Pip using her beauty. Dickens uses both of these
wealthy donors to display different aspects of morality, life experiences, and individual personality.
While Magwitch and Miss Havisham may both seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miss Havisham also displays some gratitude towards Pip during his visits, saying, Thank you.
Thank you [for coming] most times he arrives a the Satis house. However, while Miss Havisham
may have truly been grateful for Pip s presence occasionally, most of these greetings are
suggested to not be sincere. This lack of sincerity proves that Miss Havisham thinks she is
socially above Pip and confirms the fact that she is unappreciative and her morals are corrupted.
Magwitch s good morals prove to lead him to a satisfying life while even though Miss Havisham
starts to show signs of reformation near her demise, her morally defunct lifestyle causes her to die
heartbroken, regretful, and lonely.
The second way the benefactors differ is through there past life experiences. Because Magwitch
was In jail and out of jail all his life, he learned to make the most of life and not dwell on things
of the past (295). Doing this made him a successful businessman and also strengthened his
character. Contradicting to this, Miss Havisham secludes herself from the world after her
fiancГ© most heartlessly broke the marriage off on their wedding day (153). Dwelling on this
event for the rest of her life, Miss Havisham loses the determination to do anything but make Pip
s life miserable. She accomplishes this by pushing Pip to pursue Estella, saying If she favors you,
love her. If she wounds you, love her. If she tears your heart to pieces, and

Upper House Persuasive Speech
Is an upper house of parliament the vital missing piece of democracy in Queensland or an
expensive, extra layer of red tape? Good afternoon, fellow classmates and Mrs Bruce, I am here
today to talk to you about how an upper house in Queensland is crucial for the success of our
justice system, how it is needed to enforce protocol on governments and required to give
Queensland the same accountability as every other federal and state parliament. Australian
parliament has a two houses; The House of Representatives and the Senate. These are alike to the
upper and lower houses Queensland once had. The House of Representatives has 150 members,
where each member represents 75, 000 80, 000 voters in a geographical area, called an electorate.

For legislations to be passed, there must be a majority vote. Therefore, when parties have
majority seats, they can practically pass any laws they like, especially when there is no upper
house to check . Now, how can we stand here and say this is not an issue? Extreme governments
are taking advantage of our justice system. An example of this was seen in the Newman
government. They began declaring legislations as urgent, using their majority seats to bypass
the Parliamentary Committee process. A legislation that was subject to this controversial way
was the anti bikie laws. These laws had many negative impacts on society and broke several
important civil rights. Two of the several laws that were made include; presumption against bail
for members of motorcycle clubs and police can stop and search persons wearing motorcycle
club colours. The presumption against bail for members of motorcycle clubs law, has broken the
right of freedom. Presumption against bail means in the eyes of the law you should not be

Working with students with special needs, as teachers, we need to protect our students right.
Special education teachers are required to keep high standards and meet best practices. According
to the Preliminary Credential Competency Checklist Historical and Legal Foundation 1.4 (2014),
two of the best practices that are enforced in the special educationfield is to individualize education

practice is using an educational method of learning that will support the students learning based on
previous research that has been completed. Using evidence based practice in a special education

The Death Of Eddie Carbone
What events/actions had led up to the death of Eddie Carbone? The play A View from the Bridge
has many points of conflict and points of calm. The plot centers around one big buildup of tension
between the main protagonists that inevitably ends in Eddie s death. The reasoning and
justification behind Eddie s death can be argued from more than one different opinion, but there
are certain key aspects to the plot that can be defined as the actions that led up to Eddie s death. In
this paragraph, it will be explained how the irony of Eddie s situation had been proportional to his
death. Chosen from Act 1 where Eddie is around the dinner table with Beatrice and Catherine, this
quote excellently highlights the complete irony of Eddie s situation:... Show more content on

He s only after his papers is what Eddie says too Catherine in Act 2 in the hopes of persuading
her to stop feeling affection towards Rodolpho, this only angers B as she acts as the buffer
between Eddie and Catherine in these miniscule skirmishes between them. And later on Eddie
finally takes it a step too far and calls the immigration office to report Marco and Rodolpho. As
the immigration arrives Eddie tries to ward of the officers by saying things like: Where s who?
and We got nobody here. This might be because he genuinely changed his mind or he just doesn
t want B to know that he reported Marco and Rodolpho. This all contributes to Marco s hate and
distrust towards Eddie. Marco then publically humiliates Eddie by spitting at his feet and says
you robbed my children! Eddie keeps persisting that it wasn t him who had reported them,
although he knows that it is obvious that he did so. Later Eddie is informed that Marco is
praying in church, which strongly implies that Marco is preparing to take justice into his own
hands (murdering Eddie). It goes on until finally Marco provokes Eddie to where Eddie pulls a
knife and Marco turning the blade around and killing Eddie with his own knife. My B. is part of

The Negative Effects Of Smoking On The Environment
Smokers possess the tendency to kill more people per year than guns. However, this does not only
include smokers, as second hand smoke also enhances the tendency of negativity on this planet.
Smokers negatively affect the environment through numerous ways and they cause irreparable
damage to the entire ecosystem, water pollution, land, air, etc. Different facts clearly depict that
how smoking creates a long lasting negative impact on this planet. The tobaccoindustry sacrifices
around 600 million trees every year to fulfill the rising trends of smokers. Excessive amount of
carbon dioxide production takes place because of excessive cigarettesmoking. The United States
contributes 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in a single year (Tobacco Free Life ).
Managing the tobacco industry in an effective manner would reduce the flow of carbon dioxide that
would create a proactive impact on the environment.
The Cultivation of tobacco also negatively creates an impact on the environment. The cultivation of
tobacco results in a negative effect on the land, deforestation, and world hunger. In certain third
world countries, governments emphasize mainly on tobacco cultivation and these results in limiting
the land allocated for edible food farming (Tobacco Free Life ). Different private organizations also
earn effectively through the platform because of which they opt for tobacco cultivation.
The resilient nature of this crop makes it extremely vulnerable to different diseases and pests. The
utilization of extra pesticides affects the crops and the land. Nicotine is widely used as a natural
pesticide and these pesticides possess the tendency to malign the water and soil. Some of the
commonly used pesticides in the tobacco industry are Imidacloprid, chlorpyrifos, 1,3
Dicloropropene, etc (Tobacco Free Life ).
Tobacco not only contributes towards water pollution, but it also results in different negative
aspects including air contamination, dangers to wildlife, smoking related fires, etc. Cigarette butts
are toxic for different animals and these animals suffered from various issues when they intake
these cigarette butts. Smoking also causes wildfires and they negatively affect different habitants

How Did Nero Influence Rome
Emperor Nero was the most detrimental emperor to Rome. He burned Rome so he could build
Rome as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians.
Those are the acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He
has also done some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Neroruled Rome from
54 AD to 68 AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was
changed to Nero in 49 AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians
have read that Nero s fate was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero
was three, was extremely violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young
boy with his chariot as he drove through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon
hearing of the birth of his son, Nero s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would
be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly
any good could come out of it. The people of Rome were right.
One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero
Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom
he eventually forced to commit suicide). Nero murdered his way to the imperial throne, which he
occupied from A.D. 54 68. His life was characterized by debauchery, violence (he caused his own

The Separation Of Powers Of The State And Its Powers
A constitution is a set of laws and other sources or principles that explains the way in which the
state is established. In short, it is a framework that explains the structure of the state and its powers.
Unlike most modern states, Britain does not have a codified constitution but an unwritten one that
exists in an abstract sense. It delineates the powers of the different branches of the state, and the
restrictions placed on the institutions and on state power. It is comprised of various acts of
Parliament, court judgements and conventions that have evolved over a long period of time. Since
Britain does not have a written constitution, it enjoys the luxury of legislative supremacy. In UK
terms the separation of powers, parliamentary supremacy, and the rule of law are all extremely
important doctrines that pervade the constitution.
The separation of powers is a doctrine or a theory that describes the way in which a state
organises the distribution of power and function between its different branches. It was originally a
work of the 18th century French commentator, Montesquieu, whose principles had a huge impact
on the English constitution system. He also coined the term trias politica or separation of powers
. His doctrine said that in a nation which has political liberty as the direct object of its constitution,
no one person or body of persons ought to be allowed to control the legislative, executive and
judicial powers, or any two of them. Montesquieu s work

Primates In The Mountain Gorillas
Before taking this class I had not given much thought about primates or how they relate to us.
However, now I see that they are quite fascinating animals and share aspects that are similar to our
own humanity such as caring for young, social habits, and even basic emotions. When it comes to
the vast world of primates I must say my favorite one is the African mountain gorilla. I chose this
primate because I believe they are some of the most magnificent of the primates. They share similar
characteristics with humans and that by learning about them we can better understand ourselves.
The mountain gorillahas been studied in a variety of different ways. A woman named Dian Fossey
conducted the most prominent study. Dain Fossy took her entire life savings to go to Africa and

Hodgkin s Lymphoma Four years ago my family came across a cancer that has made our lives a
rollercoaster. My sister was diagnosed with Hodgkin s Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system
. She put in all she had to fight this monster of a disease, but unfortunately at age 46, she has lost
the battle and is on comfort measures through a hospice. This being said, has made me want to
know everything I can about Hodgkin s Lymphoma and given this great opportunity to write a
research paper on this disease, gives me the time to be educated on it. Hodgkin s lymphoma is
most commonly seen in adolescents and young adults of an age range of 15 35, but also in
older adults that are 55 and older. It starts when a lymphocyte becomes abnormal and multiplies
in to several abnormal lymphocytes. Then white blood cells group around the abnormal cells,
then the lymph nodes become swollen. These abnormal cells can spread through the lymph or
blood vessels to other parts of the body. Unfortunately, abnormal cells do not help fight off
bacteria that enters the body or die like normal cells do when they age or are damaged. To break
it down into types of Hodgkin s, there is the classical and the rare. The classical Hodgkin s
Lymphoma s abnormal cells are called Reed Sternberg cells. In this type thousands of people are
diagnosed every year. In the rare type, which is called lymphocyte predominant

which is where most of the sexism comes from.During the war women played parts in mostly
helping out the troops, also another reason they were targeted. Women are equal to men

intelligent or being powerful as well as speaking out against these crimes. After their capture the
radicles work them like dogs doing whatever they ask and when they are done they either release
them or kill them depending on how well they complied. Sometimes the radicles did not even give
the women a chance they simply killed them out of cold blood, just because they could. The
sexism was so bad that some men wouldn t let their wives go outside for fear of them being
snatched up and killed. Along with sexism in Algeria the government is not

Maternal Age Stillbirth
Maternal Age and Risk of Stillbirth As with most complication of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and
congenital defects, the maternal age plays a key role. In particular, mothers who are age 35 and
older statistically have the highest rates of incidence in complications. Conversely, teen pregnancies
also comprise a substantial portion of the difficulties seen during pregnancyas well as the effects on
the developing fetus.
Description of the Study The study was conducted to determine what correlation maternal age has

Doctor priests had a higher status than some surgeons who were working more than skilled
mechanics of the body, working with their hands rather than their brains. Infections were very
common to occur. Surgery was the last option. They tried to not have to perform surgery. It was
something to be replaced because death was the only alternative besides surgery. Most
procedures were simple and easy but that doesn t necessarily mean they can t prevent infections.
The doctors who took orders from God ranked higher than the men who performed the surgeries
with hope and skill but they lacked knowledge to help the patient. One common treatment was
taking blood from the patient. The four humors was mucus, yellow bile, blood, and black bile.
Some treatments can kill the patients before the disease would. One of his findings was that

The, The Ancient Olympics, By Nigel Spivey
In the monograph, The Ancient Olympics, Nigel Spivey examines how culture encourages and
shapes the Olympic Games, as well as become a safe haven for ancient Greece during times of
conflict. This multifaceted monograph demonstrates that the societal behavior of the Athenians
shifted within prescribed roles regarding the use of violence, the imagery of true beauty, and the
love for Greeces youth during the games. In addition to shedding light on society s enlightening
interpretation of what occurs within the gymnasia, the Olympic Gamesredirect a whole new
meaning to conflicts that arise on and off the Olympic stage. Although the concept of a multifaceted
culture revolving around incessant conflict is not new to the study of ancient Greece, it is Spivey s
unique analysis of the impact of the Olympic Games that make his argument so compelling to his
readers. Specifically, Spivey argues that the behaviors captured during the Olympic games in
ancient Greece and Rome are synonymous with the shifts in cultural norms observed , as well as
society s reactions to incessant conflict surrounding ancient Greece, within and outside of the
Olympic gymnasia. In order to conceptualize the very shift in cultural norms that took place during
the Olympic Games within ancient history, Nigel Spivey claims in his monograph that the societal
interpretation of the Games correlates to culturally prescribed roles regarding strife as a guiding
principle of existence, the imagery of true masculinity,

protagonist. Robinson implies third person point of view as we thought that he was everything. To
make us wish that we were in his place. allowing the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was
more than just a typical normal resident in their neighborhood. Also conveying that those who
surrounded him were below their noble class that to them he was seen as Clean favored, imperially
slim. informing the readers that he was seen as royalty. Despite the residents admiring his presence,
he was always filled with a fluorescent personality. The poet introduces this element he fluttered
pulses when he says, Good morning allowing the readers to understand that not just his physique
was out standing but the way he had proper manners to say Goodmorning to those that surrounded
him. The poet allows the comprehension that the protagonist has always been an outstanding
individual.
Although the author describes the emotions that the residents have towards him they still envy him
in the way that they describe him more then what would be expected. Robinson utilizes metaphors
richer than a king to allow the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was very

Hamlet the Sentimental Dreamer
Hamlet: The Sentimental Dreamer
The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark is William Shakespeare s most well known and
analyzed work of literature. As the play unfolds, Hamlet has to face the difficult task of seeking
revenge against his uncle, Claudius, for the murder of his father, King Hamlet. Hamlet has captured
audiences and readers for centuries and has caused much inquiry and debate. Shakespeare s Hamlet
is a very psychologically complex character. Throughout the play, Hamlet conveys two different
sides; the young, emotional and intelligent prince, who is committed to honesty and loyalty; and his
destructive and impulsive side which led to the death of Polonius and nonchalantly sent
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to their deaths as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.2.634 35). This quote means that Hamlet will study Claudius during the performance of the
play, and should he change his behavior, he will know that the Ghost s story was true and he can
now take revenge. Even despite the fact .that Hamlet now knows that Claudius killed his father,
he still delays his actions. This goes on to show that Hamlet is an intellectual dreamer. Hamlet
gets a perfect opportunity to kill Claudius but he neglects to kill him because he is in prayer.
Hamlet delays in action of seeking revenge against Claudius when he quotes, Now might I do
it(pat,) now he is a praying, and now I ll do it/ And so he goes to heaven/ And so am I(revenged.)
That would be scanned: A villan kills my father, and for that/ I, his sole son, do this same villain
send to Heaven (Ham. 3.3.77 83). Hamlet s rationale for this was that he assumed Claudius was
confessing his sins, and his death would send him to heaven. For Hamlet, taking revenge is just not
about killing Claudius, but making sure that he suffers, another deeply thought out belief. Hamlet is
too much of a thinker and not enough of an actor. Even when Hamlet is given the opportunity to
carry out his intentions, he delays and reasons himself out of it. Hamlet does have an almost
excessive desire to reason everything through thoroughly.
As a dreamer, Hamlet is lacking of that strength which would carry him through his actions.

Netflix Is An American Cooperation
Netflix is an American cooperation that provides on demand Internet streaming media. It was
founded by Reed Hastings in 1997 in Los Gatos, California. In 1999 the company adopted a
subscription based business model, which allows customers to pay for a particular category of
memberships to determine how many DVD s could be rented at one time. So DVD s were mailed
to customers and then once they finish viewing the DVD customers can mail it back to Netflix. In
2007, Netflix started offering an online streaming service to their customer. The objective of this
service was to reduce cost by encouraging the subscribers to switch to the online streaming, which
would decrease the expenses associated with the shipments of mailed DVDs. In 2010,... Show more

This project will discuss in details the motivations that drive Netflix to adopt cloud computing
technologies, and how cloud computing technologies have affected the business purpose of
Netflix? And finally what the challenges and solutions that are facing Netflix? Why cloud
computing Netflix has more than 27 million streaming subscribers around the world, which make
Netflix the world s leading Internet subscription service for streaming movies and TV programs.
Netflix s decision to move their data centers to a third party cloud service provider was impacted
by technical issues associated with the growth of customer subscripting to Netflix services. Issues
and motivations to move the IT infrastructure to the cloud are: Outages and availability: The main
reason Netflix decided to move their services to the cloud is the outages and availability of their
services. In August 2008, Netflix experienced a major outage that prevented Netflix from providing
services to the third of its customers. This outage has affected the company reputation negatively,
and cost Netflix around one or two cents in earning per share, and $2 million in profit. Fast growing
global services: Netflix has been fortunate to experience astonishing growth in recent years, both in
online streaming and customers subscriptions. Netflix alone consume up to 32.7 percent of peak

How Baking Has Changed Over Time

Wealth Management Is The Process Of Meeting The Needs Essay
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WEALTH MANAGEMENT Wealth management is the
process of meeting the needs and wants of affluent clients by providing financial products and
service. Since ancient Roman senators hired financial advisers to lend out their money, people with
wealth have needed someone to manage it. High net worth individuals thus call upon wealth
managers to help them develop strategies of how to effectively manage their wealth. The term
wealth management started in 1933 and came into more use in the private client divisions of firms
like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. These firms formed divisions which were designed to
deliver different services from those offered to the mass market. Wealth managers provide clients
with a wide range of services, depending on the client s needs and the focus of the firm. Tax
accounting: Financial advisors help clients handle, complete and submit their taxes. Financial
planning: Financial advisors provide advice on how to reach future life and financial goals by
providing information about investing, saving, taxes and estate planning. Investing: Clients who
want to invest seek the services of wealth managers for professional advice. Insurance Services:

The Issues Raised by the Growth of Manchester and the...
Manchester is a city in England that experienced tremendous growth between the 1750 s and 1850
s. The population grew from 18,000 in 1750 to over 300,000 by the census of 1851. This growth
called for more homes and factories to be built in order to support the growing population. With the
constructing of more factories to support the rise in population came the growth of industry and
manufacturing. The growth of the city, along with these factories, brought about several issues
other than the manufacturing of valuable goods. The overcrowding from the population growthand
the smog, smoke, and other toxic waste from the factories brought about the issue of pollutionand

Wheelan and Co., a preface to a business directory, says, It is to the population that Manchester is
mainly indebted to its elevation as a seat of commerce and manufacture...for which it is

of the city and its population resulted in this issue of manufacturing and commercial growth.
Wheelan and Co. reacts to this elevation of the city saying, Perhaps no part of England, not even
London, presents such remarkable and attractive features as Manchester, the Workshop of the
World (Document 9). This reaction is positive toward the manufacturing growth of the city,
describing it as remarkable and attractive. Another positive opinion on the growth of manufacturing
is seen when Thomas B. Macaulay, a liberal Member of Parliament, says that improvements are
owing to the increase in national wealth which the manufacturing system has produced (Document
3). This reaction shows how he thinks that the growth of manufacturing in Manchester is the basis
for the improvement and the wealth of the whole country of England. Because he is a member of
English Parliament, he may have a positive bias towards Manchester because it is an English city.
Alexis de Tocqueville, a French visitor to Manchester, reacts in a similar way to the issue of the
growth of manufacturing that resulted from the growth of the city saying, from this [city] the

An Infinity Of Little Hours Summary
In An Infinity of Little Hours: Five Young Men and Their Trial of Faith in the Western World s
Most Austere Monastic Order, a novel written by Nancy Klein Maguire, readers are regaled with an
extensive look at the life of mid twentieth century Carthusian monks, which as one would infer from
the title, is quite ascetic. A rare look inside Parkminster, the Carthusian monastery referred to as a
charterhouse, creates a unique opportunity for readers to gain great insight into the Carthusian
Order.
Maguire regales and educates readers with a nonfiction story about five Carthusian monks from
the 1960 s. Readers learn how each man came to the monastery and what he left behind. They
learn about life as a novice and life in a cell. They learn about ... Show more content on

The least helpful features of the book included the author s lack of clarity in characterization which
could have been strengthened either by better character development or simply fewer characters
and names to keep straight (the appendix at the close of the story was not an adequate solution),
the dramatic shifts in point of view, and the occasionally overwhelming amount of detail
provided. For the most part, remedying these faults, was the evidence employed by the author.
Maguire seems to have done a brilliant job researching her subject, and it is clear to the readers
that what is presented to them is, without a doubt, an accurate account of life within the walls of
Parkminster. Under the pretenses that it was the author s goal to give readers that intimate look at
the ascetic life of mid twentieth century Carthusian monks, it is clear that she achieved her goal.
If readers are able to look past the confusion created by some of Maguire s stylistic choices and
the many monks and their many names, then he or she will likely be quite pleased by the
especially insightful, extraordinarily personal, and enormously in depth account of Carthusian
monasticism provided by Nancy Klein Maguire in An Infinity of Little Hours: Five Young Men and
Their Trial of Faith in the Western World s Most Austere Monastic

Mamie Smith, the first blues vocalist to attain popularity through recordings, employed jazz
tenor sax pioneer Coleman Hawkins in her group. Bessie Smith, the greatest of the early blues
artists, featured a young Louis Armstrong on some of her finest recordings. Count Basie, who
once defined jazz as nothing more than swinging the blues, featured blues shouter Jimmy
Rushing in his first band, and received a major boost in his comeback 20 years later from the
more contemporary blues stylings of Joe Williams. Lionel Hampton s big band of the 1940s
introduced blues great Dinah Washington and made hit records including Hamp s Boogie
Woogie and Hey! Ba Ba Re Bop that helped launch rhythm and blues. R B then begat rock and
roll, which ultimately fed the fusion movement in jazz, just as the soulful jazz of modernists such
as Horace Silver and Bobby Timmons had its impact via funk on more contemporary blues

Sure, the aftermath is awesome: watching something you ve written come to life, etc. But getting it
onto the page is, personally speaking, excruciating.
Question:How do you avoid exposition?
Answer:You don t. You police it. I go back through and read it over and over and continually ask
myself do they need to say this? And in doing so, I ve come up with some really cool scenes and
interesting ways to show things that I initially had been telling.
Fascination with Becoming a Screenwriter/Director
I made the career choice to become a screenwriter/director because it is an easy outlet. Since I
was in elementary school I was an excellent writer. I would write fairytales upon fairytales and
read them to whoever was willing to listen. When all the other children wanted to go outside and
play, I would be writing. Anywhere and everywhere, you could always catch me with a pen and
paper. Growing up I had many dreams, had many aspirations. Over time most of those aspirations
faded, and it became all but nothing a simple dream. Yet as I grow older writing has never left my
side. I began doing spoken word which opened the door to my public speaking. Which now has me
so excited to write something, anything, knowing that people are excited and willing to hear me

Spirituality and John Coltrane Essay
Spirituality and John Coltrane
After being fired from Miles Davis s band in 1957 for his chronic use of heroin, John Coltrane was
hurt tremendously. He decided it was time he quit using heroin. He took a month off from music
while he went cold turkey. During this month in the early spring of 1957, Coltrane had a momentous
religious experience (Nisenson, 40). Coltrane asked God to give him the means and privilege to
make others happy through music (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As time went on, Coltrane felt that he was
leading a life that was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path that he had
made to God (Coltrane, 1995, 2). Starting with A Love Supreme (recorded in December, 1964),
Coltrane stuck to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Coltrane was starting to get introduced to the greats of jazz like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker,
he started drinking heavily. Then, probably in 1953, he started doing heroin (Thomas, 52). By
1957, he had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis,
a recovering heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in
clothes that looked like he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be]
picking his nose and sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane
nodded out, and Davis punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his
band for the second time.
While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came
about was known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most
powerful music of the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be
known as sheets of sound, a style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he
could, while starting and ending in different notes in a specific key. That year, he released his first
acclaimed album on the Blue Note label, Blue Train, which was a record of jazz standards.
Miles Davis loved the new Coltrane, and hired him back into his band for a third time. Davis came
up with a new jazz concept, modal improvisation.

Purpose Of Industrialization
Despite having a large agricultural land, Mississippi is still one of the poorest states in America
without enough food for its population. One of the reasons is that farming has been taken over
by mega corporations whose harvest is not intended to feed the local population, but instead to
feed other parts of the world. The environment pays a big price for this, as these corporations do
not find it important to put aside some funds to take care of it. This has caused people like Mr.
Wendell Berryto speak out. In this essay, we analyze his interview with Bill Moyers and examine
how this impacts us from a Christian perspective.

This has created a system where the politicians and corporations are almost inseparable and work

go right at it without waiting for the government permission or any form of official advice.
Otherwise, a big part of the planet is going to be uninhabitable in the coming years. For believers,

  • 4. Comparing Ophelia And Hamlet If Only He was as Great as Her Often times, a tragedy can bring two people together, especially lovers, yet, sometimes, it can drive them apart. Both of them can become mad, one can become mad and not the other, or they can become mad in two totally different ways. When tragedy strikes in Hamlet, Ophelia and Hamlet deal with it very differently. Despite the obvious tragedies that group them together, Ophelia and Hamlet are nothing alike at all, characteristically. In fact, Ophelia is the female version of the man Hamlet should become because she is active and determined, transgressing her pre determined role as a naГЇve woman. Before one can discuss Ophelia s activeness, one must focus on Hamlet inactiveness, and why Ophelia as the best, idealistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ophelia would have never handed out flowers with obvious intentions had her father not died. Nevertheless, the main characters of Hamlet dismiss her advances toward them. Even though the characters of Hamlet dismiss Ophelia s madness, her madness directly affects them. Her action leads to others actions. Her suicide leads to the direct duel between Laertes and Hamlet, which leads to the impending doom of the whole court. • 5. Essay on The Impact of Fmla on Human Resources The Impact of FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) on Human Resources Ehren Hayes Final Research Project GB520 06 Dr. Pellettiere Introduction According to the United States Department of Labor (DOL), The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993 mandates that employers who have 50 or more employees living within 75 miles of the worksite, must provide a minimum of 12 weeks of unpaid job protected leave. The employee must have worked for the organization for a minimum of 12 months and must have clocked a minimum of 1,250 working hours within that 12 month period. Human Resource Management professionals reported issues with tracking/administering intermittent FMLA leave, determining the overall costs incurred while complying with the requirements of the FMLA and determining whether an intermittent serious health condition should be protected by the FMLA. (Frincke, pg. 7) There are no statutes or policies in the FMLA that states the employee must furnish a doctor s note, but many state regulations do require it. If there are any questions in regards to the seriousness of the employee s condition, the employer can ask that documentation be provided if this requirement is made known before hand. There are also situations where an employer may dispute a doctor s recommendation and they may require the employee to get a second opinion. The doctor will then have to determine that the duties of the employer s job cannot be performed or the requested leave is medically necessary. With the exception of maternity, birth or adoption of child, most employees, typically, can only give up to a week or same days notice. Unfortunately, an episodic event or catastrophic health issue doesn t allow for much notice. Maternity notice averaged about two months in advance. Several legal websites, including Findlaw.com and cpmy.com state that in order to avoid disruption in the work place, the employee s responsibility is to give reasonable notice, which is typically 30 days. If the reason for leave is unexpected, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Complexity Science And Systems Thinking In the prior chapter, I established both the multiplicity and malleability of identity and its role in conflict transformation. I will now explore the literature on complexity science and systems thinking. More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the transformation of self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems thinking to bring some clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that attribute the self as a system, and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate the various aspects of self that contribute to transformative processes. Complexity Systems Complexity. Complexity theory, also known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a unifying framework to understand how parts of a system and their relationships give rise to the collective behaviors of a system, and how the system interacts and forms relationships with its environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth for ease), identified underlying parallels in phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations, the human immune system, the origins of life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses, ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy. The application is prevalent in biology, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, neuroscience, sociology, anthropology, ecology, psychology, and philosophy, basically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Did King David Have Bladed Weapons Did you know that swords were a major weapon of war during the ancient and medieval history? They are also called the gentleman of all weapons. They were bladed weapons that have two parts namely the blade and the handle or the hilt. Blades were made of a hard metal, steel, or bronze. They were sharpened blades that could be single edged or double edged. The width varied with the culture and era and so did the type of hilt. They could be one handed or double as per the weight and maneuver of the sword. The hilt could be wood, leather, ivory or bone. The warriors and the knights relied on swords a lot. They were brisk, agile, graceful and flexible. Some were very elaborately decorated. What type of sword did King David use to cut off Goliath s head? No one knows, however, the bible says King David ran and took Goliath s sword and cut off his head . King David did not have a sword in his hand; therefore God had to provide a sword for David because David had spoken the words. • 9. Theme Of Manipulation In Medea Once he began manipulating Medea, this made him realize, that he can manipulate anyone he chooses to. After he had captured the Golden Fleece, he abandoned Medea and married the princess of Corinth hoping to stable his wealth and gain more power. He, in turn, manipulated the royal family only to have the consistent power he needed and desired. This had then begun to escalate. Jasonis now displaying a pattern of his manipulation. As Jason begins to free himself from his evil ex wife, Jason manipulates the past into a lie and much bigger problem from his side of the story. His dishonesty makes his side of the story more believable and by doing so, his manipulation skills had become more deceivable. Jason is in denial of the many things Medeahad done for him and when he told his story, he used omission in order to deceive his listeners. Jason then says, Dark threats cast out against the majesties/ of Corinth, count as veriest gain thy path of exile. (27). He then blames Medea and having Creon ban her from Corinth. The power of manipulation can easily be misused to aid the person who uses it. Overusing it can harm the people who are targets to its belongings. If it is left in the hands of the villain, a large group of people can be restrained by a solitary person. Manipulation in this play is used very dangerously and ones actions can lead to another. Some characters take their actions too far to the point where they begin manipulating themselves during the process. Observant and manipulative describes the kind of woman Medea had depicted. Medea set her mind on getting revenge on a man whom she gave up everything to be with. She fled her own country and killed her brother just to be with a man she fell in love with. Only to find out that the one she had loved betrayed her, used her for greed, and left her to be with a princess. The main reason for her manipulation was only to justify her revenge on her husband, Jason. However, people stand in the way of her revenge plan, and the only way she can do what she needs to do is by manipulating others to be on her side. She does this in a way where she connects with others on a more personal level so they can feel just as bad as her. In Vicarious Dishonesty: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. I Had Never Even Heard Of Discourses When I first came to RIT, I had never even heard of discourses before, let alone write an entire essay on it in roughly a week. I suppose then that this could be considered a separate discourse itself. When I was in high school, our teachers had us focusing on completing essays solely based on discovering the author s purpose and using literary elements to support our thesis statements. There it did not matter what our background was; we had to get through the work and were almost required to write it to a perfect state, otherwise it would not be considered as collegematerial. Upon arriving at college, the classwork attitudes changed drastically. Here near perfectionism was not stressed and the backgrounds of students were taken into consideration for classes. With so many discourses present it a classroom, one would think that it would be difficult to accommodate everyone, but for me, it is a discoursethat is surprisingly easier to adjust to. Instead of having everyone adjust to one specific discourse, everyone is permitted to their own discourses and contribute to the community. Similarly, Williams explains how these discourses impact conflicts that could arise between students and teachers in the academic classroom. In Home and Away: The tensions of community, literacy, and identity, Bronwyn T. Williams argues to researchers and teachers so that they understand that because everyone comes from different backgrounds. They all will not learn the same way and have ... Even though Anna, is depicted as a beautiful and physically strong girl.she still needs protection by others, but the difference between the original convention and the contemporary view is that she is not completely weak but not as strong as the male protagonist, Van Helsing. This reflects the contemporary Van Helsing context. During the Victorian era, The growth in science and technology was dramatic and challenged religious theories. One discovery that is eloquently evinced in the story is Darwin s theory of Evolution, which reflects the novels context as it was a controversial issue of the era. This theory is thought to be the transformation of populations in the struggle for survival as the ones with the best characteristics will be more likely to survive, and those desirable traits are likely to be passed off to offspring. Early in the novel, as Harker becomes more uncomfortable with his lodgings and his host at castle Dracula, he notes, unless my senses deceive me, the old centuries had, and have, powers of their own in which mere modernity cannot kill Here, Harker states one of the central concerns of the Victorian Era: Supernatural, ... • 12. I Have A Yong Suster When analyzing literature, context is important because different interpretations of the same piece can lead to very different meanings. The poem I Have A Yong Suster is a piece of Middle English poetry that can have several meanings depending on how it is read. Some say that the poem suggests a sexual relationship, while others say that it is an exchange between siblings. The narrator in this poem is sent three gifts that can have different meanings depending on who sent them. One interpretation identifies the sender as the narrator s sister, and it portrays themes of love and innocence. Another interpretation claims that the sender is a sweetheart or lover of the narrator, and in this interpretation, the poem represents courtship. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another important detail in this interpretation is the choice made by the author to make the sender of these gifts a young sibling. This could be an intentional decision to strengthen the connection between these specific gifts and young children. According to the Middle English Dictionary, however, suster can be translated as spouse or lover . This interpretation gives the poem a sexual twist. The first gift, the cherry, is representative of a woman s virginity. The second gift, a dove, is typically a symbol of love. Also, they have been said to carry messages, such as the messages between the narrator and their lover. Additionally, the briar fits into the theme of nature symbols, and reproduction is a part of nature. The idea of the gifts being related to children also fits into this interpretation. The narrator notes late in the poem that Whan the maiden hath that she loveth, / She is withoute longinge (27 28). Longinge can be interpreted to mean longing, as in wishfulness, but it can also be read as longing, as in a sexual desire. This could mean that when a girl has the one she loves, her desire for love in a possibly sexual manner is sated. Reading the poem with the translation of suster as lover gives it a new twist and changes some of the meanings that can be interpreted from the poem. The meaning of lover carries on to modern songs such as I Gave My Love A Cherry by Carly Simon in 2007. This song is often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It could even be argued that if scientists had left well enough alone, this increase in of individuals in the late adulthood stage of life would not have occurred; implying that nature or God would have naturally controlled the population. Benefactors In Great Expectations Benefactors In the British classic Great Expectations, Charles Dickens uses a pair of benefactors who greatly contrast each other to represent the dual social mindsets of society. Elusive convict Abel Magwitch appears hostile to readers in the beginning of the story, but he later reveals himself as a selfless laborer, working vigorously to finance young Pip s journey into becoming a gentleman. In contrast, Miss Havisham is a venerable old woman who was jilted on her wedding day and raises her adopted daughter to break the heart of adolescent Pip using her beauty. In short, it is a framework that explains the structure of the state and its powers. Unlike most modern states, Britain does not have a codified constitution but an unwritten one that exists in an abstract sense. It delineates the powers of the different branches of the state, and the restrictions placed on the institutions and on state power. It is comprised of various acts of Parliament, court judgements and conventions that have evolved over a long period of time. Since Britain does not have a written constitution, it enjoys the luxury of legislative supremacy. In UK terms the separation of powers, parliamentary supremacy, and the rule of law are all extremely important doctrines that pervade the constitution. The separation of powers is a doctrine or a theory that describes the way in which a state organises the distribution of power and function between its different branches. It was originally a work of the 18th century French commentator, Montesquieu, whose principles had a huge impact on the English constitution system. He also coined the term trias politica or separation of powers . The, The Ancient Olympics, By Nigel Spivey In the monograph, The Ancient Olympics, Nigel Spivey examines how culture encourages and shapes the Olympic Games, as well as become a safe haven for ancient Greece during times of conflict. This multifaceted monograph demonstrates that the societal behavior of the Athenians shifted within prescribed roles regarding the use of violence, the imagery of true beauty, and the love for Greeces youth during the games. In addition to shedding light on society s enlightening interpretation of what occurs within the gymnasia, the Olympic Gamesredirect a whole new meaning to conflicts that arise on and off the Olympic stage. Although the concept of a multifaceted culture revolving around incessant conflict is not new to the study of ancient Greece, it is Spivey s unique analysis of the impact of the Olympic Games that make his argument so compelling to his readers. Specifically, Spivey argues that the behaviors captured during the Olympic games in ancient Greece and Rome are synonymous with the shifts in cultural norms observed , as well as society s reactions to incessant conflict surrounding ancient Greece, within and outside of the Olympic gymnasia. In order to conceptualize the very shift in cultural norms that took place during the Olympic Games within ancient history, Nigel Spivey claims in his monograph that the societal interpretation of the Games correlates to culturally prescribed roles regarding strife as a guiding principle of existence, the imagery of true masculinity, ... Depicts the fascinating life of a play boy protagonist who has a perfect lifestyle and has everything that one could ever imagine, yet despite him being a out most perfect individual at the end of the story he commits suicide. As a young boy Robinson wrote to his dear friend at the ageof six, questioning why he was born introducing a great element to his poems because at a very young age his life was tremendously bleak. Throughout the story the poet utilizes various methods of figurative language such as irony, point of view, and metaphors to introduce such elements of how life can be so great but despite it being great others can assume that you re happy but no one really knows what you re enduring. In this paragraph the poet demonstrates the emotions that the residentsfeel when they re around the protagonist. Robinson implies third person point of view as we thought that he was everything. To make us wish that we were in his place. allowing the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was more than just a typical normal resident in their neighborhood. Also conveying that those who surrounded him were below their noble class that to them he was seen as Clean favored, imperially slim. informing the readers that he was seen as royalty. Despite the residents admiring his presence, he was always filled with a fluorescent personality. As the play unfolds, Hamlet has to face the difficult task of seeking revenge against his uncle, Claudius, for the murder of his father, King Hamlet. Hamlet has captured audiences and readers for centuries and has caused much inquiry and debate. Shakespeare s Hamlet is a very psychologically complex character. Throughout the play, Hamlet conveys two different sides; the young, emotional and intelligent prince, who is committed to honesty and loyalty; and his destructive and impulsive side which led to the death of Polonius and nonchalantly sent Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to their deaths as ... This quote means that Hamlet will study Claudius during the performance of the play, and should he change his behavior, he will know that the Ghost s story was true and he can now take revenge. Even despite the fact .that Hamlet now knows that Claudius killed his father, he still delays his actions. This goes on to show that Hamlet is an intellectual dreamer. Hamlet gets a perfect opportunity to kill Claudius but he neglects to kill him because he is in prayer. Hamlet delays in action of seeking revenge against Claudius when he quotes, Now might I do it(pat,) now he is a praying, and now I ll do it/ And so he goes to heaven/ And so am I(revenged.) That would be scanned: A villan kills my father, and for that/ I, his sole son, do this same villain send to Heaven (Ham. 3.3.77 83). Hamlet s rationale for this was that he assumed Claudius was confessing his sins, and his death would send him to heaven. For Hamlet, taking revenge is just not about killing Claudius, but making sure that he suffers, another deeply thought out belief. Hamlet is too much of a thinker and not enough of an actor. Even when Hamlet is given the opportunity to carry out his intentions, he delays and reasons himself out of it. Hamlet does have an almost excessive desire to reason everything through thoroughly. Sure, the aftermath is awesome: watching something you ve written come to life, etc. But getting it onto the page is, personally speaking, excruciating. Question:How do you avoid exposition? Answer:You don t. You police it. I go back through and read it over and over and continually ask myself do they need to say this? And in doing so, I ve come up with some really cool scenes and interesting ways to show things that I initially had been telling. Fascination with Becoming a Screenwriter/Director I made the career choice to become a screenwriter/director because it is an easy outlet. Since I was in elementary school I was an excellent writer. I would write fairytales upon fairytales and read them to whoever was willing to listen. When all the other children wanted to go outside and play, I would be writing. • 51. Spirituality and John Coltrane Essay Spirituality and John Coltrane After being fired from Miles Davis s band in 1957 for his chronic use of heroin, John Coltrane was hurt tremendously. He decided it was time he quit using heroin. He took a month off from music while he went cold turkey. During this month in the early spring of 1957, Coltrane had a momentous religious experience (Nisenson, 40). Coltrane asked God to give him the means and privilege to make others happy through music (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As time went on, Coltrane felt that he was leading a life that was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path that he had made to God (Coltrane, 1995, 2). Starting with A Love Supreme (recorded in December, 1964), Coltrane stuck to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Coltrane was starting to get introduced to the greats of jazz like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, he started drinking heavily. Then, probably in 1953, he started doing heroin (Thomas, 52). By 1957, he had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis, a recovering heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in clothes that looked like he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be] picking his nose and sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane nodded out, and Davis punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his band for the second time. While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came about was known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most powerful music of the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be known as sheets of sound, a style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he could, while starting and ending in different notes in a specific key. That year, he released his first acclaimed album on the Blue Note label, Blue Train, which was a record of jazz standards. Miles Davis loved the new Coltrane, and hired him back into his band for a third time. Davis came up with a new jazz concept, modal improvisation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Purpose Of Industrialization Despite having a large agricultural land, Mississippi is still one of the poorest states in America without enough food for its population. One of the reasons is that farming has been taken over by mega corporations whose harvest is not intended to feed the local population, but instead to feed other parts of the world. The environment pays a big price for this, as these corporations do not find it important to put aside some funds to take care of it. This has caused people like Mr. Wendell Berryto speak out. In this essay, we analyze his interview with Bill Moyers and examine how this impacts us from a Christian perspective. Mr. Wendell Berry, an 82 year old from Kentucky, is an environmentalist who dedicated his life to fight for this planet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, politicians who are supposed to speak out for the planet and its inhabitants are sometimes paid for by corporations, who in turn benefit from the former s inaction and silence. This has created a system where the politicians and corporations are almost inseparable and work hand in hand at the expense of our planet. As he puts it, we need people who see the problem and go right at it without waiting for the government permission or any form of official advice. Otherwise, a big part of the planet is going to be uninhabitable in the coming years. For believers, especially, this is something that God asks us to do. It is emphasized a number of times in the Bible that we are required to work and keep this earth. Not doing so would mean disrespecting our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
