Class Structure In The Twelve Tables
The Twelve Tables is an ancient Roman table of laws that have shaped Roman culture and society
as we understand it. From those laws, a greater understanding of Roman life is revealed. Beyond
the rules, there is evidence of class structure, and economy. As well as family relations and power.
The Twelve Tables touch on slander and death in Roman lives.
The Twelve Tables informs on Roman class structure and Roman economy and describes
prevalent crimes in ancient Roman times and the equality of Romans. The Roman class
structure involved the patricians at the top of the social class, plebeians at the bottom of the
social class. There was a divide in the class structure with most Romans being plebeians which were
the poorest social class, and very few being patricians, the wealthy class. The Twelve Tables suggest
that was a problem in the economy due to the laws it provides. The Roman economy was poor at
the time of the Twelve Tables, since the asses, bronze coin, 500 asses or 50 asses ... it shall be
argued by solemn deposit with 500 asses, when the property is valued at 1,000 asses or more, but
with 50 asses, when the property is valued at less than 1,000 asses , was used for validity in legal
cases ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The economy was not doing well since the Romans
did not have the funds to afford a trial, the penalty sum, in action by solemn deposit shall be 500
asses or 50 asses ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The state of the economy is also

Henrietta Lacks Sacrifice
Who was Henrietta Lacks? What if I told you, had she not lived, your life would be very
different today? Her name was Henrietta, she was a poor, uneducated, African American woman,
but she is known today as HeLa, and primarily only in the scientific community. Henrietta existed
on this earth a short 31 years, but her cells live on eternally. Cells that she never knew were taken
from her, dare I say stolen, at the most vulnerable time of her life, during surgery for terminal
cervical cancer. Five years ago I read Rebecca Skloots groundbreaking account The Immortal Life
of Henrietta Lacksand I was captivated by Henrietta s story and the effect that this medical
deception had on her family. Her story should be told.

PALO ALTO NETWORKS AND ARYAKA
Secure Cloud Delivered Global SD WAN
The Challenge
With more than half of all enterprise WAN traffic moving to and from the cloud, global businesses
are moving away from legacy architectures to SD WAN technologies. Typically, cloud traffic was
backhauled across the WAN to centralized firewalls to maintain security. Ensuring application
performance over such a backhauled setup becomes a challenge. In addition, security is not scalable
when the organization has globally distributed users and locations.
Enterprises require a cloud native SD WAN platform that integrates private connectivity, application
acceleration and security without adding network complexity and costs.

The Three Phases Of Siddhartha
next phase, he is met with physical pleasures when he is introduced to Kamala, a beautiful
courtesan. He sheds off all his ascetic ways and becomes a samsara i.e. a worldly man. After
some time the monotony of this life catches up with him and he feels the need to move forward.
This marks the end of the second phase of his life. He plunges into the third phase sorrowful not
having found true sense of freedom and happiness in life. While sitting on a boat chatting with
the boatman, he expresses his grief. The boatman, a simple common man gives the answers to
all of Siddhartha s questions by simply giving the analogy of the river. He explains to Siddhartha
that life is like a river. This simple philosophy that the boatman share with Siddhartha is enough
to wake him and jolt him to life. He realises that running behind happiness will never make one
happy. You have to be still and content with the way life is and happiness will come to you. He
then takes over the job of rowing the boat on the river and lives a peaceful, happy life. Hermann
Hesse has beautifully linked the three phases of the novel with the three phases of Siddhartha s
life. Each phase begins with the river and we realise at the end... Show more content on

The vocabulary is simple and yet striking. The theme is so powerful in itself that probably
Orwell regarded that the use of simple vocabulary would still be equally prominent. It certainly
brings out the beauty of the narrative. The plot unfolds in a way that is easily predictable. There
is a definite beginning, middle and an end. George Orwell primarily uses first person narrative
(which is Winston s perspective) to unfold the story. He also sometimes shifts to a third person
narrative. Thus this dual use of narrative helps the story to open up on two distinct levels. One is
personal, from the point of view of the character that lives the story. The other is a general
perspective which is open to interpretation of the

Registered Retirement Savings Plan

Registered Retirement Savings Plan

What is an RRSP?
A Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) is a tax deferred account designed specifically for
retirement savings. Any resident of Canada under the age of 71 who has earned income may
establish and contribute to an RRSP. (Edward Jones, 2013)
RRSPs are the Canadian government s way of helping citizens save their money for retirement.
Saving for 30 to 40 years of retirement may seem like a long task, but well planned contributions
and withdrawals from your RRSP can be a great way to get enough money for when you retire.
Objective
The objective of a RRSP is to provide individuals with an account which they may ... Show more

The maximum you can take out in one year is $10,000. You won t pay any taxon it as long as you
pay it back over 10 years. This does not include paying for a child s education.
My conclusion is that RRSPs benefit Canadians by reducing their taxes and allowing their
savings to compound tax free. Individual RRSP s are the most common type of RRSP s. RRSP
contributions are deducted from earned income before it is taxed, so the money that you put into
an RRSP is not taxed until it is withdrawn. Taking money out of an RRSP account before
retirement can be very expensive because withholding taxes often apply. The RRSP Home Buyer s
Plan allows contributors to borrow RRSP funds to finance the purchase of a home. Also that it
would be the best to start making contributions early to avoid early withdrawals.

The Media Of New Digital Media
In the age of new digital media, it has become all the easier for consumers to be able to share
their media online, on various different sites. Whether that is audio, video, or images, there are
a whole host of different platforms in which users can upload their content on to and, in turn,
can interact with other uses that have the same interests. In this report I will be looking at
different social media sites, all with a different media demographic and discuss the advantages
and drawbacks of each site in regards to the consumer, and whether they are the best sites to use
in their own respective media areas. 2)a)Spotify Spotify is a commercial streaming site,
launched in October 2008, which lets users browse and listen to just about every song in
existence by any artist, album, genre, or record label. It is one of the leading sites for streaming
music, and it allows users to be able to stream music to their, computer, mobile or tablet devices
wherever they are in the world. This form of digital media allows users to effectively have
access to as many albums as they want, as opposed to going out and buying physical CD s, and
it is also a way for users to listen to music legally, as opposed to previously using other illegal
sites, such as Limewire (which was shut down by federal court) to be able to listen to music while
not paying a penny. In addition to the free version of Spotify, you can purchase the ВЈ11.99 per

The Effects Of Soil Management On Environmental Quality...
1. Literature Review
Capacity of a soil to function in supporting important ecosystems without producing a negative
interaction with the environment is referred to as soil quality (Larson and Pierce, 1991). This
concept integrates physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil (Idowu et al, 2009). As
there is an increased awareness regarding the impact of soil management on environmental quality
and production of agriculture (Doran and Parkin, 1994), this concept of soil quality has gained
increased attention all over the world (Idowu et al, 2009). These interactions determine the ability
of the soil to perform some of its very important functions such as retention and release of nutrients,
moisture, and resistance to degradation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indicators of soil quality can be defined as those soil properties, which are most responsive to
changes in soil processes (Andrews et al, 2004). These indicators play an important role in
assessing the management induced changes in the soil system. These must be diverse enough
to represent the different physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil and the various
soil processes (Gregorich et al, 1994; Doran and Parkin, 1996). Management Data set (MDS) has
been created by using a group of selected soil quality indicators, which provide an evaluation of
change in soil system as influenced by different management techniques. (Idowu et al, 2009).
MDS has been created for a particular management goal (Andrews et al, 2002; Karlen et al, 2006).
Easily measurable soil indicators are often required by the land managers for assessing the soil
functions in relation to different management practices (Idowu et al, 2009).
It was argued by Larson and Pierce (1991) that soil quality measurement should not be limited to
agricultural productivity, as this concept has led to the degradation of the soil in the past. There is a
need to develop a generalized assessment tool, which should be able to include the multiple soil
functions in different combinations (Idowu et al, 2009). This will include the laboratory analysis,
site specific interpretations, and understanding the effect of management on a particular soil

What Is The Accuracy Of The Movie Gladiator
The 2000 film Gladiator, produced by Douglas Wick, David Franzoni, and Branko Lustig through
Scott Free Productions and Red Wagon Entertainment, is based on the Ancient World and radically
compressed the chronology of the Emperor Commodus reign. The film s director, Ridley Scott,
conveys his best work on the historical events as accurately and entertaining as be possibly could.
Gladiatorthe movie is about seeking revenge and fulfilling the dying wish of Emperor Marcus
Aurelius. Roman Empirewas vast stretching from the deserts of Africa to the boarders of Northern
England. Dio Cassius wrote that Commoduswas a greater curse to the Romans than any pestilence
or any crime. During the period of the Roman Empire many emperors ruled their own ways. Some

The struggle of Maximus depicts the struggle of a democratic capitalist society. In the movie it
is believed that the Roman Empire was once again Republic after the death of Commodus. An
example in the movie was when Lucilla stood up from Maximus dead body and announced Is
Rome worth one good man s life? We believed it once. Make us believe it again (Gladiator). In
real life her own brother executed Lucilla on his second year of ruling when she tried to have him
murdered. Also the accuracy of the gladiatorial games was a show of gladiators to be exhibit
before the people in the market place, and most of the magistrates erected scaffolds round about,
with an intention of letting them for advantage. (Plutarch). Just look at the gladiators, either
debated men or foreigners, and consider the blows they endure. What mediocre gladiator ever
groans ever alters the expression on his face? Which one of them acts shamefully, either standing or
falling? Depending on there action determined how they were

Examples Of Representation In The Pursuit Of Happyness
From the beginning of the film industry, individuals and communities particularly those of
racialized and gendered minority groups have been either underrepresented, misrepresented, or
both. Hollywood has been a massive suspect of misrepresentation and enabling/promoting socially
constructed misconstructions through mainstream films since its creation. Despite obvious
progress being made towards eliminating underrepresentation and misrepresentation and embracing
true cultural depictions, films often still foster stereotypes and misrepresentation both directly and
indirectly. One example of a film that does this is The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith
and directed by Gabriele Muccino. From the beginning credits, The Pursuit of Happyness takes on
a more multicultural image as you see people of many races, ethnicities, and backgrounds as the
screen moves from scene to scene. I believe that they include this right off the bat to show that this
movie is not going to be the normal or traditional Hollywoodmovie that people often see featured
in theaters. The film definitely makes an effort in representing the life of a black American man
in a realistic way and we see a unique approach to that sphere with Chris. From the start, Chris is
established as the main character and protagonist. He is presented to the audience as someone
who is sophisticated and intelligent. He is well dressed and appears to be well off, at least until we

You advance in this career by getting a higher level education in your degrees and you can also.
I learned in this video that a dental hygienist has to be patient and that they have to clean teeth
and put sealants on them and showing the patient proper ways to brush their teeth. There is also
X rays involved as well. Their hours are very flexible and easy to work with. This video showed me
that you have to be a very social person and very good and fast with your hands.
A disadvantage would be that there is not a very wide variety of career expansion. An advantage
would be great salary. It can be very repetitive as a disadvantage. An advantage would be minimal
schooling.
This occupation is something that I have recently wanted to start doing. I have always been

Analysis Of The Poem Before You Were Mine By Carol...
The poems Before you were mine by Carol Anne Duffy and Mother any distance greater than a
single span by Simon Armitage, reflect on what it means to raise a child in the world. In before
you were mine , Anne Duffy shows how things change when you have child where as in mother
any distance greater than a single span Simon Armitage shows how hard it is to let go of your
child. Duffy and Armitage represent different parent child relationships. Ann Duffy s poem is
about a relationship between a mother and daughter. In Before you were mine , Duffy perceives
her mother when she was young and how things have changed since she had her child. The poet
has a feeling of regret and thinks its her fault that her mother lost some of her energy and being
that bold girl winking in Portobello . Duffy wishes her mother still lived a fun life even after she
was born. Whereas in Simon Armitage s poem, the mother struggle to let go of the son. Armitage
writes that his mother s fingertips still pinch the pinch meaning she cannot bear to let her son go
which creates tension because the son doesn t feel the same way. The poets are able to show how
different kinds of parent child relationships can reflect on how they feel about one another in the
world. Duffy builds picture of her mother and friends when she says on the corner you laugh on
and her mother wearing a polka dot dress and then mentions blows round your legs . Marilyne . The

Alien Abduction Analysis
The premise of the article is based around the concept of repressed and fake memories. In essence
the article mentions that there are various reasons that would result in fake or repressed memories.
The reasons that are initially mentioned are cases of traumatic events and in some cases
nontraumatic events. As for the main argument of the article simply put the author(s) are
attempting to find an explanation of the reasons of alien abductions as a way to find the reasons as
to why some people report various accounts of alien abduction with no actual concept or
explanation to support the validity of the claim outside of simple knowing they were abducted on
the basis that they just know. As for the results of their study the researchers found that in many

As for my thoughts on the article it was a rather interesting concept in regards to the general
functionality of the mind that in most cases people are more or less unaware of the subtle changes.
Further solidifying the simple fact that one s memory of past events are simply unreliable.
Basically due to the fact that as time pases a large section of details related to that memory become
forgotten ultimately resulting in the brain creating a replacement memory in many cases changing
slightly after every attempt to recall that select memory. Although at the same time i understand that
the alien abduction had only been a concept to test it was rather distracting as something that
seemed so outlandish it painted a picture of a garden variety conspiracy theorist sitting in the
office of the researches rambling on about how they simply know they had been abducted and that
s why they can never take off their tin foil hats. Granted that is not to say that there is no possible
chance that there are other life forms on different planets (particularly in a statistical perspective)
however, for a article that had an important and serious study results the general concept of a

Mt. St. Helen
On May 18, 1980, 35 years prior to today, a quake struck underneath the north face of Mount St.
Helens in Washington state, setting off the greatest avalanche in written history and a significant
volcanic emission that dispersed powder over twelve states. The sudden horizontal impact, heard
many miles away, removed 1,300 feet off the highest point of the volcano, sending shockwaves and
pyroclastic streams over the encompassing scene, leveling backwoods, softening snow and ice, and
creating monstrous mudflows. Fifty seven individuals lost their lives in the tragedy (Grisham).
Mt. St. Helen s was arguably a frontrunner amongst the most beautiful stratovolcanoes in the
Cascade Range before its historic eruption on that fateful day in history. The emission formed a
huge sidelong impact that crushed the northern flank of the fountain of liquid magma,
straightening a great many adult Douglas fir trees over a fan molded zone of 600 square
kilometers. The impact zone was further exposed to a gigantic flotsam and jetsam torrential slide,
trailed by the evidence of various lahars and pyroclastic streams. The major physiographic historic

A Cultural Mismatch
1)Based on the experiences of Chrysler and Diamler Benz AG, what is the importance of culture in
the change process?
Culture effects performance! Each structural culture operates differently; in order for them to
properly function they must combine their processes. These processes would include management
styles, pay structures, capacity to communicate, compromise, understanding and accepting different

and working structures. An organizational culture s effectiveness is determined by: coherence,

A cultural clash was the major hurdle to the realization of the synergies identified before the merger
even took place. The Germans and the Americans had been out of sync from the start. The two
proud management teams resisted working together, were wary of change and weren t willing to
compromise causing the company to agree on a plan for development. Daimler Chrysler combined
nothing beyond some administrative departments, such as finance and public relations. Not
selecting a change agent was the biggest mistake during the change process. The Company s
American President James P. Holden was replaced with a German Executive; Dieter Zetsche, who
imposed DaimlerChrysler Benz cultures making any possible implementations for planning
impossible due to lack of communication and ability to conform a new culture that worked in both
organizations.

Non Lethal Weapons Essay
The Current Use of Non Lethal Weapons (Specifically the TASER) By Law Enforcement Agencies
Introduction
For years, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have adopted the employment of less lethal weapons
to facilitate the safe arrest of non compliant suspects whose actions do not justify the use of deadly
force. LEAs embraced the new technologies that minimized harm to the officer, the suspect, and the
public. However, controversy has surrounded these new devices in the war on crime. With recent
news reports on the implementation of less lethal equipment causing injuries and deaths in
communities scattered throughout the United States, the public has been questioning whether these
weapons are safe and effective to use on suspects resisting arrests. ... Show more content on

By the late 1800s, LEAs began distributing firearms to their officers in response to better armed
criminals Starting at the beginning of the 20th century, the Chicago Police Department, armed their
patrolmen with a hickory stick, a whistle, and a key to the call box to report a crime or to receive
additional assistance from their police precinct. The 1960s saw a major advance in police less
lethal weaponry, with the use of CS gas or tear gas as it was commonly called. CS gas was
frequently used in riots against unruly crowds. It must be remembered that the sixties were
turbulent times where rioting became quite common during the Vietnam conflict and the Civil
Rights Movement. In addition, the 1960s lead to serious discussions on less lethal replacements for
handguns. The President s Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice
(PCLEAJ) wanted a less lethal weapon which was just as capable in incapacitating a suspect as a
handgun with little risk of permanent injury to the person who was the target. As with other less
lethal weapons, the police dog was later employed as part of the less lethal weaponry. LEAs found
that when these dogs are properly trained, they could be used to subdue a suspect (Bulman,

The Debate On Gay Marriage
A recent Supreme Court decision ruling that homosexual couples were, by law, allowed to marry
sparked great debate when made public. Advocates for same love rejoiced, painting profile
pictures in the colors of the rainbow and crying out that reform was attainable. On the flip side,
opponents mourned the direction the nation was facing, firing back on social media with firm
viewpoints but little else. For its highly controversial standing, the debate on gay marriage brings to
light a question buried beneath the subject. How does the individual determine right from wrong? It
would seem that a person s moralityis predetermined, but has the ability to change when external
influences act upon it. When injustices arise, the person, based on his or her conscience, will step
in and take action to right the wrong.
A person s conscience points the way in his or her life, guiding where to go, what to do, and how
to speak. This conscience is a pre instilled set of morals that directs how an individual feels on a
certain subject and whether it is right or wrong. The Grapes of Wrath, written by John Steinbeck,
makes good note of this natural inclination, saying that people knew of the right to talk and to
listen (265). The migrant families knew automatically what was acceptable and what was
inappropriate. By nature, the migrants instinctively knew where to step and how to interact. In an
earlier chapter, good conscience is also exhibited when Mae, a waitress, sells candy to a few

Common Problems College Students Face Overcoming Adversity
Every college student wants their experience to be memorable, but in the right way. High school
students envision their college years will be full of fun, new social encounters, new experiences,
and fond memories. However, there are also many problems college students face throughout their
years there, and how they deal with them is essential in their academic, emotional, physical, and
social success.
Here are some common problems and some possible solutions for working through them.
Finances One of the major challenges college students face is that of finances. Many students drop
out prior to graduation because they cannot afford the cost. Some have help from parents, others
have financial aid, but still with the rising cost of tuition, textbooks, room and board, gasoline,
clothing, and other necessities, the challenge is often a difficult one to overcome.

The Aqueducts of the Ancient Romans
Imagine you live in ancient Rome and your potable water source is forty miles away from where
you live. How would you get the water for every day? The answer to this are the aqueducts. Why
and how the Romans did this? The Roman did this because some of their cities were far away from
the potable water source and the function of an aqueductis to transport the water from the potable
source to the city. The Romans brought the water from their sources using channels at ground level
or building structures like bridges with channels at the top. They used the bridges in order to save
uneven terrains. All this structures are called aqueducts. In Roman times all aqueducts functioned
using gravity, which means they brought water from higher levels to lower levels.
The Romans are known for their civil and military architecture all around their empire. The
Romans invented several architecture and engineering structures. They developed the arch, the
dome, the Roman concrete, and the pavement. The pavement was a structure that is used to
solve some of the issues they found to build the net of roads along their empire. They needed
durable roads that would last a long time and support heavy loads. The basic structure of the
pavement is a lower layer close to the ground that is called the sub base. It was made out of
gravel. Above that layer there is another layer which is the base. It is made out of sand. On top of
that there were pieces of stone that were cut into a square or rectangular

Analysis Of Blowin In The Wind
Dylan s early music, written as part of this folk revival, reflects this individualist style of political
folk songs, but the degree and subject of political conviction seems to be less important to him
than the expression of emotion, and a certain identification of himself as being political. This is
readily apparent in his work from the 1963 album The Freewheelin Bob Dylan. Two of his great
early political forays, Blowin in the Wind and Masters of War , play in quite nicely with the
notion that this generation of folk artists were more abstract, asking less rational, or rhetorical,
questions, and expressing an anger with the world, but not offering much in the way of action.
The second verse of Blowin in the Wind expresses an anger with society s willingness to sit idly
by in the face of injustices, but due to its vague language, this anger is not directed at any
particular instance of injustice: How many years can some people exist/Before they re allowed
to be free/Yes, n how many times can a man turn his head/And pretend that he just doesn t see
/The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind/The answer is blowin in the wind. Moreover, the
refrain is also incredibly ambiguous, and like much of the ephemeral political music of the time,
doesn t offer a concrete solution to the problem. Masters of War offers a scathing indictment of
the arms build up of the Cold War. Much of the song calls for the death of the war profiteers, and
offers a grim image in

The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance
Introduction
Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before
competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally.
Some of these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think
they can attain an edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham
Athletics, I was given many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My
interactions with these athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed
before competitions, triggered my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic
performance. Does prayer before competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this
paper I will examine the effects of religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well
as how it affects an athlete s overall performance.
Literature Review
There has been scarce documentation covering the effects of religion on athletic performance.
Up until two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes
religious beliefs had no effect on their overall performance. We have all heard questions asking if
it s necessary for a player to thank God after hitting a homerun, or taking a knee before the game
and praying. These articles were mostly based on the opinion of the author, and not backed by
empirical data. More recent research on this topic, includes a

Great Smokey Fires
Day 1: I have arrived in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to help victims of the tragedies that have occurred
during the lethal fires spreading throughout the Great Smokey Mountains. The team and I have
brought water supplies to last until our last day, along with food and other snacks. So far, we have
not yet discovered what started these fires. Our team has decided to put non injured victims into a
hotel until finding them a new shelter. 14,000 residents were evacuated from Gatlinburg around
noon. The fires continue to grow and roar at the innocent mountains that several claim home. Winds
were up to 70 mph, forcing the fires to continue and spread throughout the forests.
Day 2: Our crew was up until midnight last night, exploring areas that the fires have left for dead.
We found some victims and gave them the supplies they needed before providing them shelter. No
deaths have yet been recorded from the fires. Several homes and important buildings have been
destroyed from the fires, such as, The Mystery Mansion. Staff from the Ripley s Aquarium of the

The Modern Day Political Culture
Examining the modern day political culture of where our society is at and where it is heading is
something that people have struggled with in past history. Take for example the Germans of the
early to mid twentieth century, it is here where the people cannot see the full context of what is
happening in the world and how they were impacting it. Think of the Romans that were born at the
beginning of the fifth century, they would have no idea that the mighty Roman Empire would
cease to exist within one hundred years. This happens because we cannot predict the events of the
near future. However, by taking a step back and unbiasedly analyzing what is happening in the

Many of the problems that Marx diagnosed in his time are still prevalent today in America. One of
these broad problems is the gap between the bourgeoise and the proletariat. Though the economic
climate of today s America and yesterday s Russia are completely different, both share similarities.
One of these is seeing the emergence of an elite, ruling class amongst the masses of everyday
commoners. Marx sought to end the struggle of the common man by leveling the playing field
amongst the entire population. This is needed because we see the elite class working together to
keep themselves elevated above the common people. These interactions amongst the elitists occur
across political platforms. For example, recently the Senate passed a resolution that gives
telecommunication companies the right to sell your browsing history. In a government of the people,
by the people, and for the people, it doesn t make sense why such a bill would be passed. In what
ways does this benefit the common good of the common man? This bill shows a great violation of
Mill s policy of utilitarianism. This bill was passed to benefit the senators, who received money
from the telecommunication companies, and to benefit these companies who will profit off of the
public s browsing histories. If we compare the fifty senators who received financial support and the
telecommunication companies to everybody else who is having their browsing data neutralized, we

Sinister Games on a Dark Mountain
It was the darkest night of the year and the winter winds had finally arrived, biting into the skin of
the traveler as he pushed onward through the forbidding forest. The villagers had warned him
against venturing into the woods after sunset; they pleaded, saying that people had gone into the
forest and had never been seen again. But he had a deadline to meet. The travelerwas carrying a
letter for the magistrate of the county beyond the mountains, a message warning of an
impending attack from the south. The traveler had to get to the county before dawn or all would
be lost, so he hurried deeper into the unfriendly wilderness. He paused, leaning against an ancient
oak to catch his breath. Crack! The traveler s heart froze in his chest. He looked around wildly,
searching for the source of this sound. He was about to call out to determine if the noise had
been caused by a person, but the words died in his throat as he heard laughter. The laughter
sounded like that of a child but there was something off about it. There was a cruel twinge to the
laughter, almost as if it was mocking him. The laughter subsided and was replaced by the sound
of something scratching against wood. The scratching noise sounded almost metallic, as if it
were made by a knife or a sword. The traveler drew his own blade and shouted Identify yourself,
friend or foe? The scratching noise stopped abruptly and a child s whisper replied, Friend? I d like

The Ideal Of Heroism
The ideal of heroism in comics is displayed as that of normal citizens taking action against the
tides of evil in the world. The fantastical element of super strength, uncanny agility, and web
slinging exploits are paled in comparison to what lives in the heart of a hero according to comics.
Superheroes, or supervillains, are not gods who come down from heaven to save or destroy us,
though there are exceptions, but are instead the human spirit uplifted to a point of power. In
comics, a hero is someone who does the right thing even if it is difficult, because they are, or
should, be the best of us. In Spider Man, heroism is the responsibility to make the world a better
place that motivated by the death of his uncle. Peter Parker wishes to bring less heartache to the
world; he wishes to prevent what happened to him from happening to others. Peter Parker

Examples Of Unfaithful In Othello
Three Unlawful Acts of Love The play Othello by William Shakespeare consists of manipulation
and tragedy, a story of love that ends in demise. Othello, a great general, finds himself at odds with
the notion that his beloved wife has been unfaithful, while Desdemona is completely innocent. He
loves her so much that the idea of her adultery drives him to murder. The ensign to the general,
Iago, is behind the rumors and the turmoil. He manipulates the trust between Othello and those
who are closest to him, even so far as suggesting the method irate Othello uses to kill his wife.
However, despite Iago being the ringleader behind the conflict and crime, Othello would be
charged guilty for first degree murder, criminal conspiracy, and tampering with a witness in a
court of law. Iago would be cleared of any homicide accusations, most likely getting a minimal
charge compared to Othello. Othello committed first degree murder by killing Desdemona. First
degree murder is any unlawful killing done with intent and premeditation, of which Othello is
guilty of both. When presented with Iago s false suspicions of cuckolding, Othello almost instantly
writes off his wife as guilty. Iago plants suspicions into his mind until Othello decides he would
rather kill her than deal with a reality where she was unfaithful. When he plans to strangle instead
of poison her is the first step to first degree murder, as there is aforethought behind the deed. It is

My Day My Life Essay
The day my life changed forever was January 22, 2014 when I went for a ultra sound of my baby.
I was in the office and could see the look on the face of the ultrasound technician that something
was wrong. I knew at this moment my life would be different. My stomach sunk and I was just
hoping it was not a serious health issue. I thought for sure I was going to have a panic attack. I was
in my late 30 s and I knew there was a risk for issues but I had no idea what was in store for us.
The doctor came to the room and let me know that my baby could have trisomy 21 or down
syndrome. This was somewhat of a relief because I knew he would live. I needed to make an
important decision whether to have a amniocentesis or a maternal 21 blood test. If I had the
amniocentesis I knew my baby would not survive. I took the maternal 21 blood test and had to
wait for two weeks for the results. They indicated that my baby would most likely have down
syndrome. The doctors and nurses looked at me like someone had died. I was happy that my
child would still be able to come into this world even though there would be some obstacles we
would have to face. I will never forget how they looked at me when I denied further testing.
I knew no matter what the diagnosis was I would have him. I loved him, the bond I felt when I
found out I conceived was one I could never explain. Even when the doctors looked at me like I
was a freak of nature I knew what God was telling me and I put everything in his hands. I thought
that I would only have one child Miss Miya Jolee Harrison, she was born on June 30th 2003 and
this was one of the best moments of my life. My daughter was also really excited to get to meet

Dishonesty In Genesis 25-28 In The Book Of Genesis
Through examination of the parables featured in the book of Genesis, there are numerous events
where characters are deceitful. This is specifically illustrated in Genesis 25 28 in the story of Esau
and Jacob. Throughout this narrative, it is demonstrated that Rebekah loved Jacob more than Esau,
while Isaac favored Esau more than Jacob. In Genesis 27, through an act of disguise and trickery,
Jacob received Isaac s blessing with the help of his mother, Rebekah. Because of the deceiving
actions of mother and son many have questioned the morality of Rebekah and the legitimacy of
Jacob. This is specifically questioned through the biblical teachings that shun the idea of dishonesty.

This however could be deferred if the elder son committed a sinful act, or sold his rights (Sarlo,

Genesis 25: 29 34, Esau traded his birthright in exchange for food that Jacob was preparing. In
this verse, a famished Esau approached Jacob and demanded food. Let me eat some of that red
pottage, for I am famished! In response, Jacob proposed that Esau sell him his birthright prior to
fulfillment of his demands. Esau agreed and readily gave up what was promised to him. While the
motivation of Jacob is suspect, Esau s disregard for his birthright willingly, demonstrated a lack of
regard for the promises God made to Abraham regarding the family s blessing. Additionally, Esau
disregarded the family blessing in Genesis 26:34 35 by taking Judith and additionally, Bas emath
as his wives. It is said in Genesis 26:35 that Judith and Bas emath made life bitter for Isaac and
Rebekah. This implies that the women were not considered suitable to pass on the traditions of
Abraham. These two instances demonstrate that Esau was willing to forsake what was promised to

Urinary Incontinence in Dogs
If your dog is unable to control their ability to hold their urine until they re outside, they re probably
suffering from urinary incontinence. A small amount of urine will start to drip from the vulva or
urethra during pets nap or while they sleep. In a female dog, estrogen has an impacting result,
giving strength to the muscular tissue of the bladder. Within the male dog, testosterone as estrogen
has an impact result as well. Everything that decreases or increases the levels of those hormones
also consists of inability in holding urine.
As a dog ages, the function of those hormones on they re own decrease. The hormone responsive
incontinence happens with neutered dogs male and female and sometimes in spayed cats but it is
more often seen in female dogs. The pet may urinate normally, but they leak urine when resting or
sleeping. Hormone responsive incontinence can occur later on after a pet is neutered. Once in a
blue moon, the inability to control urine can happen in younger animals due to congenital anatomic
abnormalities. Birth defects cause incontinence in young animals which is rare. If only one or both
of the ureters by pass the bladder and also connect to a wrong place as the urethra or vagina, the
young pup will drip urine. A least common cause is a condition called Vulvo Vaginal Stenosis
where the vagina or the level where the urethra ends is narrowed. Once in a while urinating, some

Using Wireless Sensor Networks, Load Balance, Sensor...
Abstract The efficiency of sensor networks depends on the coverage of the target area. Although,
in general, a sufficient number of sensors are used to ensure a certain degree of redundancy in
coverage, a good sensor deployment method is still necessary to balance the workload of sensors
in target area. In a sensor network sensors can move around to self deploy. The deployment deals
with moving sensors from an initial unbalanced state to balanced state. Therefore, several
optimization problems can be defined to minimize different parameters such as total moving
distance, number of moves, communication cost. There is a unique problem called communication
holes in sensor networks, areas not covered by any node.
In this paper, we will work mainly to detect and remove communication hole in a heterogeneous
wireless sensor network. For this we will study the existing techniques. Finding an efficient
deployment that modifies the existing techniques.

The Need For Theory And Theorizing
2.2 THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK Obviously the topic of human is limitless. Its scope is so
diffused, broad and massive that we find it difficult to comprehend, think, examine and analyze.
In brief we need to wear some sort of scientific lenses by which we can catch the world of
observation in order to explain, predict and influence the course of actions. THE NEED FOR
THEORY AND THEORIZING According toKeIIy(1999, P. 18). Theory is a way of finding
together all together a multitude of facts so that one may comprehend them all at once . In a
similar vein, (Sharer Ashmore: 2002, P. 50) sees theory as a set of interrelated ideas about a
phenomena, which provides the framework for its explanation . (Jonathan,1997 P.10)
succinctly puts the issue in these terms. Theorizing can be viewed as the means by which the
intellectual activity known as science realizes it is three principal goals these include: (1) To
classify and organize events in the world so that they can be placed into perspectives. (2) To
explain the courses of past events and predict when, and events will occur and (3) To offer and
intuitively pleasing, sense of understanding why and how events should occur. Scholars have
advanced plethora of views and theories in a bid to provide an explanation of the wide ranging
multifaceted ideas of how social life is organized (KolIak: 1985, P. 223). On the other hand, a
theory is a set of ideas, which provides as explanation for something. This is in view of the fact that

The Rise and Fall of Rome Essay
The rise and fall of one of the greatest empires known to man, the Roman republic, were caused
by several key factors. Three of which were the decline of monarchy within the empire, foreign

The decline of monarchy which caused the rise of the republic was caused by the expulsion of the
last Etruscan king. An ancient Roman tale tells of how the last Etruscan king, Tarquinius Superbus,
was driven from his thrown. The tale tells of how after his son, Sextus, raped a beautiful and

Atlantic Slave Trade Essay
Being fully aware of the benefits of the slaves, the British elevated their importation and by the
turn of the eighteenth century African slaves numbered in the tens of thousands in the British
colonies (1). As the demands in tobacco increased, labor increased. Like the simple law of
supply and demand. Ending of Royal African Company s monopoly in 1698 encouraged more
traders to enter the slave business thus making African slaves more accessible (4). As a result of
their increased expense, their masters were stringent and determined to get as much out of them as
possible thereby working them mercilessly (Faragher 2009, p. 83). Initially, the cost of slaves may
have been more expensive but in the end the masters were able to keep them enslaved.... Show more

They were just a phase, slavery was now the new tradition, but some slaves did benefit from their
circumstances. For instance, some urban merchants and artisans employed slaves in their shops,
which exposed them to marketable skills (1). Further proving that slaves located in towns,
withheld more freedom than the others in the cities. Now onto the treatment of women during
this slave era. During the 1600 s laws were put in place pertaining to servant women and their
illegitimate children (3). The law stated that women servants or slaves who conceived children
with their masters will automatically experience an increase in their year of servitude. Since
giving birth would mean any extra mouth to feed, the owners took it upon themselves to get the
law passed. The masters can do whatever they please with them ,but woe betide the woman to get
pregnant. Woe betide the woman to resist their master. Woe betide the woman to keep that child.
The masters would sneak into the slaves quarters and rape them, yet they couldn t respond
because the master was always right . Many thought of running away yet due to their dark skin, it
was hard for slaves to escape from their owners and blend into the rest of the population. As
number of slaves increased, lawmakers constructed legal codes for strictly controlling slave
activities. Lawmakers therefore made sure that the slaves had absolutely no

Right Real Estate Attorney
Investing in property is a very important decision in one s life. You are going to invest all your
savings, in some cases a hefty loan, into buying a property that you will cherish for the rest of your
life. You won t want to spend that money buying something that s not worthwhile. Getting cheated
is often possible especially when you are involved with investments. Even if you are not really
cheated with the property, you can always be cheated while signing an agreement or making that
buying decision. You could be asked to agree to clauses that are not legal or, something like that. It
is always good to hire a real estatelaw firm who would give you the perfect legal advice in such
cases. After all when you are investing a lot of moneybuying a property, investing a small amount
in an attorney is good idea to protect the legal issues. When hiring a law firm or its attorney, there

Probably when you dealt with a law firm in your last dealing, you made good relations with
them. This would help you in your current dealing as well. But, if not then try to get some good
references. Your neighbour, your relative or, your best friend could have hired a real estate law
firm in the past when selling or buying a property. You can ask them about it and, get a real good
deal. Hiring a real estate law firm from references or past deals makes sense as you get the right

Dbq Era of Good Feeling Ap Us History Essay
The period after the war of 1812 was labeled The Era of Good Feeling by historians. Some people
believe that this is an accurate label of this time period, but others disagree. Due to the emergence
of sectionalism concern with local interests, and nationalism patriotic feelings and self pride, people
had mixed feelings about this timeperiod. Many people felt that times were high, and that
nationalism and sectionalism could only bolster the union, while others thought that it was
sectionalism and nationalism that caused disunion. Some of the documents used in this essay
support the claim that the period after 1812 was an era of good feelings. Other documents will
oppose this claim with proof from their own perspectives. Document B... Show more content on

(Doc. D). The case says that it would be difficult to sustain this proposition. Anna Hayes Johnson
of South Carolina wrote to her cousin in North Carolina complaining about the unhappy business
which has filled with consternation all our city and how nothing can save them. She writes that
fifty to sixty percent of the leaders are in jail, and twenty of them have been convicted and
sentenced. (Doc. G). The people living during this time period do not seem to think as highly of it
as the people discussed in the previous paragraph did. Documents E and I both portray different
feelings about this era. Document H is a political map that exemplifies sectionalism perfectly.
During the presidential election of 1820, James Monroe won every vote but one, but in 1824, the
votes were split up between four different candidates, and the results were just as varied. Each
state had its own mind and voted for who they felt was right, and not just as one union.
Document E is a density map that shows how populated each square mile of land was in 1820.
Much of the land had less than two inhabitants per square mile, and the people living there felt
that they shouldn t be taxed the same as somewhere where there were ninety or more inhabitants
like in the northeast. This is a prime example of people who did not think this was The Era of
Good Feeling. The Era of Good Feeling is a label given to the time period

Similarities Between Gnostic And The Doctrine Of The Bible
Like many of Basilides Gnostic contemporaries, he too rejected the Orthodox doctrine of the
carnal resurrection and that the spirit was only worthy of salvation while the flesh was
worthless. Many church fathers used the Gnostic stance on the resurrection as proof that
Basilides was a libertine but judging from the evidence provided by our favorite heresy hunters,
he very much was a strict ascetic, which disproves their own assertions. Despite Basilides being
an ascetic, we do know that he did have a son as a successor, being Isidore (as stated earlier). It
should be noted that Abraxax is actually the more official spelling of this contradictory but
powerful deity. This name doesn t have a meaning in the traditional sense. It has more of a
mystical meaning. The seven letters that make up the name are meant to represent the seven
planets known in antiquity: the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Abraxas (pronounced ah BRAKS us ) is a Gnostic name that appears in many ancient texts.
Abraxas is a complicated figure whose image has changed with the passing of time. A lot of
what we know about him was recorded through the filter of Christian heresy hunters who, as we
all know, were not always right. But as far as we can tell, originally he is the head of 365 other
spiritual beings of Gnostic lore. He was oftentimes depicted as a half man/half basilisk creature
conceived as a god or a daimone, which we know because of all the ancient amulets with

Taking a Look at Capital Punishment
William Furman murdered William Micke on August 11, 1967 in Savannah, Georgia. Furman
was unemployed, and only had a sixth grade education. William Furman became depressed, and
started to commit theft for food and money. Furman was caught stealing several times, but was
only given a light sentence. At 2 a.m. on August 11, William Furman broke into the house of
William Micke, while Micke and his five children were sleeping. William Micke heard a noise and
went downstairs to see where the noise was coming from. He spotted Furman, and Furman ran for
the back door. William Furman tripped over an exposed wire and the gun in Furman s hand went
off. The bullet hit William Ficke, killing him instantly. The Furman v. Georgia
case started in the
district court and then moved up to the appellate court. Furman was sentenced to death by the
appellate court after a one day trial. He made the argument that his eighth and fourteenth
amendment rights were being violated. The case moved up to the Supreme Court of the United
States. In the trial, Furman had four main arguments: most western nations had abolished capital
punishmentbecause it was an unsuccessful way to deter crime; juries only handed out about 100
death penalties each year, and only about 50 prisoners were sentenced to death so capital
punishment was not being issued objectively; national prison records stated that executions almost
always involved black prisoners; and the only reason why capital punishment had

Copyright Law Essay
Overview‐Policies
 Copyright protection provides the owner of an original work of authorship the right to prevent
others from using the work without the owner s permission.
 Copyright law protects against the copying of an expression of an idea but does not protect the
idea itself.
пѓє this protection is limited compared to patent law because copyright law allows for independent
creation of a copyrighted work as a defense to copyright infringement.
п‚ The theory is that 2 people can create exact or similar works without copying one another;
therefore, each has copyright protection in their respective work.
 The policy is similar to patents. We want to encourage creativity, but also provide the public

copyright law applied to works created today. [Our focus.]
 Earlier created works are governed by either the Copyright Act of 1976, originally enacted or
the Copyright Act of 1909
Subject Matter of Copyrights
 Copyright Act provides a long list of works that may be copyrighted, but the list is not
exclusive.
пѓє the law is left fluid, allowing courts to extend copyright protection to new forms and ways of
expressing ideas, as they may be developed in the future.  Today, the Copyright Act provides
that Copyright protection extends to original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of
expression, now known or later developed, from which they can be perceived, reproduced, or
otherwise communicated, either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.
The 2 key requirements are:
 1) Original‐ meaning that the author created the work and did not copy it from someone else.
п‚ there must be some level of creativity involved
п‚ in the Feist case, the court held that arranging the listings of a telephone book alphabetically was
not creative enough
п‚ names, addresses and phone numbers are public facts or data and are not original and therefore
not copyrightable; п‚ but the arrangement and selection of facts or data may be copyrightable if
done in an original way;
п‚ alphabetizing is simply not original.
2) Fixation‐ in order to receive copyright

In addition to finding comfortability within the systematic environment of scientific academia, my
analytically predisposed mindset became attracted to one of the most important tenants of any
scientific discipline: the priority of objectiveness. The elimination of any sort of personal biases and
emotional involvement is necessary in maintaining credibility of new scientific theories. I wasn t
necessarily some sort of infant Spock character straight out of the Star Trek series, I simply
happened to develop a capability to deduce the reasoning behind certain actions and events without
exploding in response with emotional reaction. Konrad Lorenz, the ethologist who dubbed the term

The Ways the British Government Tried to Hide the Effects of the Blitz from the British People
The government wanted to hide the effects of the blitz for many reasons. By doing this they were
protecting the public as well as continuing the battle against the Germans. As the effects were
hidden normal life could continue and therefore so could the war effort and morale of the public.
Many methods were used in doing this. The government used radio, newspapers, press, posters, film
reels and the cinema to give information to the public, while still able to hold back any information
seen to be damaging to the British war effort and morale through censorship, propaganda and
distraction the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slogans such as Britain can take it were used to show the country as surviving in spite of the
ongoing attacks as bombs can only kill people, they cannot destroy the indomitable spirit of a
nation.
The government also tried to exaggerate victories. For example, on 15th September 1940, after a
massive daylight air raid on London, the BBC announced that, according to official figures, 180
German planes had been shot down. In truth, the number was about sixty. Propaganda was also
used to ridicule and counter that of Germany, in the ongoing struggle for control between the two
countries. E.g. the Ministry of Information
Censorship was used greatly by the government to hide the effects of the Blitz from the public. To
disguise the real effects of the bombing on people newspapers only published positive stories
and images and photographs of large casualties were not published. In Oct 1940 Balham
underground station was hit by a bomb which burst a water main and 64 people drowned. But
photos of this were never published and the story was not released. Censorship was used for the
prevention of hysteria and panic. The bombing of Balham Station would have caused panic as
many underground stations were used as shelters. Many papers were condensed to only 4 pages
due to censorship
Censorship was also used as damage

Booker T. Washington
Established in history for his tremendous efforts to improve the condition of blacks in the United
States, Booker T. Washington well deserves admission into the Progressive Hall of Fame.
Washington took it upon his own conscience to deal with the poverty and discrimination faced by
black americans during the Jim Crow era. He provided education and economic opportunity to
disadvantaged black men at institutes, much like the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Though
Washington focused moreso on economic equality than social equality, he provided a stepping
stone for the future, which would surmount to the furthering of civil rights for blacks.
In a time of desperation for the common black man, Washington provided a beacon of hope,
providing a community to those lost in the waves of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Washington took advantage of the situation, offering a humble plea to the white race, so that his
black brothers could be employed. Washington then continued to describe the fidelity that the
Negro would offer, being a reliable source of work. Washington s views were not without fault
however, as they were assailed by W.E.B. Du Bois for subjugating the black race to menial labor
and social inferiority. In Du Bois essay Of Mr. Booker T. Washington and Others in his collection
The Souls of Black Folk, Du Bois accuses Washington of allowing the South to solidify the
supremacy of the white race over the black. Washington s programme practically accepts the alleged
inferiority of the Negro races. Though partly true, Washington s incentive was not to gain equal
economic footing, but a footing at all. Due to the numerous labor strikes following the Panic of
1893, unemployment went through the roof, leaving many white southerners without an efficient
labor force. Washington chose to fill the gap with a band of hard working blacks, so that they may
prove their aptitude to their white employers. Washington insisted instead that blacks could

South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s...
South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy.
Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days
prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our
country s democracy at stake?
The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to
replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to
protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It
has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey
areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified.
Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty
jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect
the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself?
As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African
Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state.
Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer
publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of
fraud, theft and

Least Depeloping Countries
Least developing countries are the countries which are poor in agricultural that are seeking to
become more advanced economically and socially. Most of the countries are developing, less
developed or Third World countries. However, the big difference in wealth and economic
development amongst Third countries, the concluding are typically characterised by a low average
per capita income, high external debt (to foreign banks and states in respect of loans acquired), a
strong dependance on agriculture and other primary activities. CONTENT A serious problem
facing LDCs is that they lack the money (sometimes the political will) to invest in business
enhancing enterprises, and to shape up and sustain their physical and transport related
infrastructure. Export and import activity suffers as a result and the countries feel progressively
relegated in the international trade field. A contributing factor to this phenomenon is that more than
50% of the population in LDCs is under the age of 15 and therefore not economically active. Yet
youths still require basic services (health care, education, etc.) for which the government has to foot
the bill. Another restriction to the LDCs getting ahead in the international trade arena is that their
governments are often more concerned about getting special treatment from the wealthier countries
than developing ways to create more sustainable industries and become more competitive. Frequent
political trouble in the LDCs also plays confusion

At the duration being we were able to spot houses that were torn apart due to the storm that had hit
Kurnell not to long ago. Viewing at various other houses there seemed to be construction
undergoing renovating the house displaying that Kurnell was encountering urban renewal. There
were small stores and cafes that were located opposite the beach, consisting of small litter evidently
shown on the paths from the stores. Furthermore through the analysis the long strip of jetty that
stretched out from the shore was soon found out to transport oil from the refinery plant via
pipelines. The jetty was said to stretch for 1km out to sea emerging as submarine fuel pipelines,
along with other storage facilities around Kurnell. When conducting through the primary research
we were able to identify multiple aeroplanes that flew past the location. Due to its close proximity
with the Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, Kurnell encounters multiple planes flying overhead
either to land or take off, having close contact with the ground. Throughout the examination little
information was discovered regards the statistics of pollution around the beach apart from minor
rubbish pieces left by the side of the road. However from looking into secondary research the
information given was distributed into three main aspects air pollution, noise pollution and sea
pollution.

Ibis Hotels Business Report Essay
IBIS Hotel Report
Ibis, the popular economy hotel chain, opened its first hotel in 1974, in the French town of
Bordeaux. Since then, the company has expanded globally, reaching 40 countries worldwide,
opening over 800 hotels. The majority of chains have been established in France, while the UK
hosts over 50 chains, with further four hotel openings expected in December 2009. Recently, the
chain has introduced a strategy to promote the chain s drive for greater and greener customer
comfort . (Mintel 2009)

Their market position also suggests that Ibis caters for those with a mid budget (Mintel 2009), and
those looking for extra services such as internet connection and food catering.
Secondary research shows us that Ibis has a fairly respectable reputation in the UK, serving as a
low profile hotel chain. A study found that over 60% of customers thought their experience was
either excellent or good, with around 6 8% finding their experience either poor or unsatisfactory
(Mintel 2009). Moreover, further research shows that Ibis shares a similar correlation to the
average budget hotel, scoring slightly under par with regards to friendliness. The hotel suffers from
a lack of stand out feature, as the Mintel Budget Hotels UK August 2009 report points out, Ibis ...
has no particular brand identity of its own (Mintel 2009).
Another interesting consumer attitude is the general opinion towards Ibis s environmental stance.
A July 2009 survey discovered that only a small percentage (around 5%) thought Ibis cares for the
environment, however, as previously mentioned, Ibis launched a new initiative in January 2009,
driving towards greater and greener customer comfort (Mintel 2009), on top of this, Ibis s

  • 3. Class Structure In The Twelve Tables The Twelve Tables is an ancient Roman table of laws that have shaped Roman culture and society as we understand it. From those laws, a greater understanding of Roman life is revealed. Beyond the rules, there is evidence of class structure, and economy. As well as family relations and power. The Twelve Tables touch on slander and death in Roman lives. The Twelve Tables informs on Roman class structure and Roman economy and describes prevalent crimes in ancient Roman times and the equality of Romans. The Roman class structure involved the patricians at the top of the social class, plebeians at the bottom of the social class. There was a divide in the class structure with most Romans being plebeians which were the poorest social class, and very few being patricians, the wealthy class. The Twelve Tables suggest that was a problem in the economy due to the laws it provides. The Roman economy was poor at the time of the Twelve Tables, since the asses, bronze coin, 500 asses or 50 asses ... it shall be argued by solemn deposit with 500 asses, when the property is valued at 1,000 asses or more, but with 50 asses, when the property is valued at less than 1,000 asses , was used for validity in legal cases ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The economy was not doing well since the Romans did not have the funds to afford a trial, the penalty sum, in action by solemn deposit shall be 500 asses or 50 asses ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). Her name was Henrietta, she was a poor, uneducated, African American woman, but she is known today as HeLa, and primarily only in the scientific community. Henrietta existed on this earth a short 31 years, but her cells live on eternally. Cells that she never knew were taken from her, dare I say stolen, at the most vulnerable time of her life, during surgery for terminal cervical cancer. • 6. The Three Phases Of Siddhartha next phase, he is met with physical pleasures when he is introduced to Kamala, a beautiful courtesan. He sheds off all his ascetic ways and becomes a samsara i.e. a worldly man. After some time the monotony of this life catches up with him and he feels the need to move forward. This marks the end of the second phase of his life. He plunges into the third phase sorrowful not having found true sense of freedom and happiness in life. While sitting on a boat chatting with the boatman, he expresses his grief. The boatman, a simple common man gives the answers to all of Siddhartha s questions by simply giving the analogy of the river. He explains to Siddhartha that life is like a river. This simple philosophy that the boatman share with Siddhartha is enough to wake him and jolt him to life. He realises that running behind happiness will never make one happy. You have to be still and content with the way life is and happiness will come to you. He then takes over the job of rowing the boat on the river and lives a peaceful, happy life. Hermann Hesse has beautifully linked the three phases of the novel with the three phases of Siddhartha s life. Each phase begins with the river and we realise at the end... The theme is so powerful in itself that probably Orwell regarded that the use of simple vocabulary would still be equally prominent. It certainly brings out the beauty of the narrative. The plot unfolds in a way that is easily predictable. There is a definite beginning, middle and an end. George Orwell primarily uses first person narrative (which is Winston s perspective) to unfold the story. He also sometimes shifts to a third person narrative. Thus this dual use of narrative helps the story to open up on two distinct levels. One is personal, from the point of view of the character that lives the story. The other is a general perspective which is open to interpretation of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Registered Retirement Savings Plan Taxation Assignment Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) Submitted By: Instructor: Date: What is an RRSP? A Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) is a tax deferred account designed specifically for retirement savings. Any resident of Canada under the age of 71 who has earned income may establish and contribute to an RRSP. (Edward Jones, 2013) RRSPs are the Canadian government s way of helping citizens save their money for retirement. Saving for 30 to 40 years of retirement may seem like a long task, but well planned contributions and withdrawals from your RRSP can be a great way to get enough money for when you retire. Objective The objective of a RRSP is to provide individuals with an account which they may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The maximum you can take out in one year is $10,000. You won t pay any taxon it as long as you pay it back over 10 years. This does not include paying for a child s education. My conclusion is that RRSPs benefit Canadians by reducing their taxes and allowing their savings to compound tax free. Individual RRSP s are the most common type of RRSP s. RRSP contributions are deducted from earned income before it is taxed, so the money that you put into an RRSP is not taxed until it is withdrawn. Taking money out of an RRSP account before retirement can be very expensive because withholding taxes often apply. The RRSP Home Buyer s Plan allows contributors to borrow RRSP funds to finance the purchase of a home. Also that it would be the best to start making contributions early to avoid early withdrawals. • 8. The Media Of New Digital Media In the age of new digital media, it has become all the easier for consumers to be able to share their media online, on various different sites. Whether that is audio, video, or images, there are a whole host of different platforms in which users can upload their content on to and, in turn, can interact with other uses that have the same interests. In this report I will be looking at different social media sites, all with a different media demographic and discuss the advantages and drawbacks of each site in regards to the consumer, and whether they are the best sites to use in their own respective media areas. 2)a)Spotify Spotify is a commercial streaming site, launched in October 2008, which lets users browse and listen to just about every song in existence by any artist, album, genre, or record label. It is one of the leading sites for streaming music, and it allows users to be able to stream music to their, computer, mobile or tablet devices wherever they are in the world. This form of digital media allows users to effectively have access to as many albums as they want, as opposed to going out and buying physical CD s, and it is also a way for users to listen to music legally, as opposed to previously using other illegal sites, such as Limewire (which was shut down by federal court) to be able to listen to music while not paying a penny. • 9. The Effects Of Soil Management On Environmental Quality... 1. Literature Review Capacity of a soil to function in supporting important ecosystems without producing a negative interaction with the environment is referred to as soil quality (Larson and Pierce, 1991). This concept integrates physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil (Idowu et al, 2009). As there is an increased awareness regarding the impact of soil management on environmental quality and production of agriculture (Doran and Parkin, 1994), this concept of soil quality has gained increased attention all over the world (Idowu et al, 2009). These interactions determine the ability of the soil to perform some of its very important functions such as retention and release of nutrients, moisture, and resistance to degradation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indicators of soil quality can be defined as those soil properties, which are most responsive to changes in soil processes (Andrews et al, 2004). These indicators play an important role in assessing the management induced changes in the soil system. These must be diverse enough to represent the different physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil and the various soil processes (Gregorich et al, 1994; Doran and Parkin, 1996). Management Data set (MDS) has been created by using a group of selected soil quality indicators, which provide an evaluation of change in soil system as influenced by different management techniques. (Idowu et al, 2009). MDS has been created for a particular management goal (Andrews et al, 2002; Karlen et al, 2006). Easily measurable soil indicators are often required by the land managers for assessing the soil functions in relation to different management practices (Idowu et al, 2009). It was argued by Larson and Pierce (1991) that soil quality measurement should not be limited to agricultural productivity, as this concept has led to the degradation of the soil in the past. There is a need to develop a generalized assessment tool, which should be able to include the multiple soil functions in different combinations (Idowu et al, 2009). Examples Of Representation In The Pursuit Of Happyness From the beginning of the film industry, individuals and communities particularly those of racialized and gendered minority groups have been either underrepresented, misrepresented, or both. Hollywood has been a massive suspect of misrepresentation and enabling/promoting socially constructed misconstructions through mainstream films since its creation. Despite obvious progress being made towards eliminating underrepresentation and misrepresentation and embracing true cultural depictions, films often still foster stereotypes and misrepresentation both directly and indirectly. One example of a film that does this is The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith and directed by Gabriele Muccino. From the beginning credits, The Pursuit of Happyness takes on a more multicultural image as you see people of many races, ethnicities, and backgrounds as the screen moves from scene to scene. I believe that they include this right off the bat to show that this movie is not going to be the normal or traditional Hollywoodmovie that people often see featured in theaters. The film definitely makes an effort in representing the life of a black American man in a realistic way and we see a unique approach to that sphere with Chris. The poems Before you were mine by Carol Anne Duffy and Mother any distance greater than a single span by Simon Armitage, reflect on what it means to raise a child in the world. In before you were mine , Anne Duffy shows how things change when you have child where as in mother any distance greater than a single span Simon Armitage shows how hard it is to let go of your child. Duffy and Armitage represent different parent child relationships. Ann Duffy s poem is about a relationship between a mother and daughter. In Before you were mine , Duffy perceives her mother when she was young and how things have changed since she had her child. The poet has a feeling of regret and thinks its her fault that her mother lost some of her energy and being that bold girl winking in Portobello . Advocates for same love rejoiced, painting profile pictures in the colors of the rainbow and crying out that reform was attainable. On the flip side, opponents mourned the direction the nation was facing, firing back on social media with firm viewpoints but little else. For its highly controversial standing, the debate on gay marriage brings to light a question buried beneath the subject. How does the individual determine right from wrong? It would seem that a person s moralityis predetermined, but has the ability to change when external influences act upon it. When injustices arise, the person, based on his or her conscience, will step in and take action to right the wrong. A person s conscience points the way in his or her life, guiding where to go, what to do, and how to speak. This conscience is a pre instilled set of morals that directs how an individual feels on a certain subject and whether it is right or wrong. The Grapes of Wrath, written by John Steinbeck, makes good note of this natural inclination, saying that people knew of the right to talk and to listen (265). The migrant families knew automatically what was acceptable and what was inappropriate. By nature, the migrants instinctively knew where to step and how to interact. The answer to this are the aqueducts. Why and how the Romans did this? The Roman did this because some of their cities were far away from the potable water source and the function of an aqueductis to transport the water from the potable source to the city. The Romans brought the water from their sources using channels at ground level or building structures like bridges with channels at the top. They used the bridges in order to save uneven terrains. All this structures are called aqueducts. In Roman times all aqueducts functioned using gravity, which means they brought water from higher levels to lower levels. The Romans are known for their civil and military architecture all around their empire. The Romans invented several architecture and engineering structures. They developed the arch, the dome, the Roman concrete, and the pavement. The pavement was a structure that is used to solve some of the issues they found to build the net of roads along their empire. • 23. Analysis Of Blowin In The Wind Dylan s early music, written as part of this folk revival, reflects this individualist style of political folk songs, but the degree and subject of political conviction seems to be less important to him than the expression of emotion, and a certain identification of himself as being political. This is readily apparent in his work from the 1963 album The Freewheelin Bob Dylan. Two of his great early political forays, Blowin in the Wind and Masters of War , play in quite nicely with the notion that this generation of folk artists were more abstract, asking less rational, or rhetorical, questions, and expressing an anger with the world, but not offering much in the way of action. The second verse of Blowin in the Wind expresses an anger with society s willingness to sit idly by in the face of injustices, but due to its vague language, this anger is not directed at any particular instance of injustice: How many years can some people exist/Before they re allowed to be free/Yes, n how many times can a man turn his head/And pretend that he just doesn t see /The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind/The answer is blowin in the wind. Moreover, the refrain is also incredibly ambiguous, and like much of the ephemeral political music of the time, doesn t offer a concrete solution to the problem. Masters of War offers a scathing indictment of the arms build up of the Cold War. Much of the song calls for the death of the war profiteers, and offers a grim image in ... One of these is seeing the emergence of an elite, ruling class amongst the masses of everyday commoners. Marx sought to end the struggle of the common man by leveling the playing field amongst the entire population. This is needed because we see the elite class working together to keep themselves elevated above the common people. These interactions amongst the elitists occur across political platforms. He loves her so much that the idea of her adultery drives him to murder. The ensign to the general, Iago, is behind the rumors and the turmoil. He manipulates the trust between Othello and those who are closest to him, even so far as suggesting the method irate Othello uses to kill his wife. However, despite Iago being the ringleader behind the conflict and crime, Othello would be charged guilty for first degree murder, criminal conspiracy, and tampering with a witness in a court of law. Iago would be cleared of any homicide accusations, most likely getting a minimal charge compared to Othello. Othello committed first degree murder by killing Desdemona. First degree murder is any unlawful killing done with intent and premeditation, of which Othello is guilty of both. When presented with Iago s false suspicions of cuckolding, Othello almost instantly writes off his wife as guilty. Iago plants suspicions into his mind until Othello decides he would rather kill her than deal with a reality where she was unfaithful. When he plans to strangle instead of poison her is the first step to first degree murder, as there is aforethought behind the deed. It is notable that Iago did not suggest ... • 32. My Day My Life Essay The day my life changed forever was January 22, 2014 when I went for a ultra sound of my baby. I was in the office and could see the look on the face of the ultrasound technician that something was wrong. I knew at this moment my life would be different. My stomach sunk and I was just hoping it was not a serious health issue. I thought for sure I was going to have a panic attack. I was in my late 30 s and I knew there was a risk for issues but I had no idea what was in store for us. The doctor came to the room and let me know that my baby could have trisomy 21 or down syndrome. This was somewhat of a relief because I knew he would live. I needed to make an important decision whether to have a amniocentesis or a maternal 21 blood test. If I had the amniocentesis I knew my baby would not survive. I took the maternal 21 blood test and had to wait for two weeks for the results. They indicated that my baby would most likely have down syndrome. The doctors and nurses looked at me like someone had died. I was happy that my child would still be able to come into this world even though there would be some obstacles we would have to face. I will never forget how they looked at me when I denied further testing. I knew no matter what the diagnosis was I would have him. I loved him, the bond I felt when I found out I conceived was one I could never explain. Even when the doctors looked at me like I was a freak of nature I knew what God was telling me and I put everything in his hands. I thought that I would only have one child Miss Miya Jolee Harrison, she was born on June 30th 2003 and this was one of the best moments of my life. • 34. Dishonesty In Genesis 25-28 In The Book Of Genesis Through examination of the parables featured in the book of Genesis, there are numerous events where characters are deceitful. This is specifically illustrated in Genesis 25 28 in the story of Esau and Jacob. Throughout this narrative, it is demonstrated that Rebekah loved Jacob more than Esau, while Isaac favored Esau more than Jacob. In Genesis 27, through an act of disguise and trickery, Jacob received Isaac s blessing with the help of his mother, Rebekah. Because of the deceiving actions of mother and son many have questioned the morality of Rebekah and the legitimacy of Jacob. While Isaac was enamored by Esau s gifts, Rebekah was mindful of God s prophecy. In Genesis 25: 29 34, Esau traded his birthright in exchange for food that Jacob was preparing. In this verse, a famished Esau approached Jacob and demanded food. Let me eat some of that red pottage, for I am famished! In response, Jacob proposed that Esau sell him his birthright prior to fulfillment of his demands. Esau agreed and readily gave up what was promised to him. While the motivation of Jacob is suspect, Esau s disregard for his birthright willingly, demonstrated a lack of regard for the promises God made to Abraham regarding the family s blessing. Additionally, Esau disregarded the family blessing in Genesis 26:34 35 by taking Judith and additionally, Bas emath as his wives. It is said in Genesis 26:35 that Judith and Bas emath made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah. This implies that the women were not considered suitable to pass on the traditions of Abraham. Although, in general, a sufficient number of sensors are used to ensure a certain degree of redundancy in coverage, a good sensor deployment method is still necessary to balance the workload of sensors in target area. In a sensor network sensors can move around to self deploy. The deployment deals with moving sensors from an initial unbalanced state to balanced state. Therefore, several optimization problems can be defined to minimize different parameters such as total moving distance, number of moves, communication cost. There is a unique problem called communication holes in sensor networks, areas not covered by any node. Its scope is so diffused, broad and massive that we find it difficult to comprehend, think, examine and analyze. In brief we need to wear some sort of scientific lenses by which we can catch the world of observation in order to explain, predict and influence the course of actions. THE NEED FOR THEORY AND THEORIZING According toKeIIy(1999, P. 18). Theory is a way of finding together all together a multitude of facts so that one may comprehend them all at once . In a similar vein, (Sharer Ashmore: 2002, P. 50) sees theory as a set of interrelated ideas about a phenomena, which provides the framework for its explanation . (Jonathan,1997 P.10) succinctly puts the issue in these terms. Theorizing can be viewed as the means by which the intellectual activity known as science realizes it is three principal goals these include: (1) To classify and organize events in the world so that they can be placed into perspectives. (2) To explain the courses of past events and predict when, and events will occur and (3) To offer and intuitively pleasing, sense of understanding why and how events should occur. Scholars have advanced plethora of views and theories in a bid to provide an explanation of the wide ranging multifaceted ideas of how social life is organized (KolIak: 1985, P. 223). On the other hand, a theory is a set of ideas, which provides as explanation for something. This is in view of the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified. Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself? As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state. Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of fraud, theft and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Least Depeloping Countries Least developing countries are the countries which are poor in agricultural that are seeking to become more advanced economically and socially. Most of the countries are developing, less developed or Third World countries. However, the big difference in wealth and economic development amongst Third countries, the concluding are typically characterised by a low average per capita income, high external debt (to foreign banks and states in respect of loans acquired), a strong dependance on agriculture and other primary activities. CONTENT A serious problem facing LDCs is that they lack the money (sometimes the political will) to invest in business enhancing enterprises, and to shape up and sustain their physical and transport related infrastructure. Export and import activity suffers as a result and the countries feel progressively relegated in the international trade field. A contributing factor to this phenomenon is that more than 50% of the population in LDCs is under the age of 15 and therefore not economically active. Yet youths still require basic services (health care, education, etc.) for which the government has to foot the bill. Another restriction to the LDCs getting ahead in the international trade arena is that their governments are often more concerned about getting special treatment from the wealthier countries than developing ways to create more sustainable industries and become more competitive. Frequent political trouble in the LDCs also plays confusion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
