Taste Of One Book
The first books now called scrolls were created as chronicles to document events which occurred
in history. As time passed by the ideology of books has changed from chronicles to stories or
significal events that occurred in history this has then altered until the books had a literary
purpose of provoking reader s emotions. Taste of one is the crucial factor of creating a certain
perception of the book, but this is often biased because a taste isn t allowed to be created. The
discussion of a book depends on various factors such as the author of the book, the sequel of the
book or a literary critics review of the book. Book discussion plays a major role in creating a
general consensus throughout an audience, however concepts vary because each... Show more

But, taste is misleading because it is affected by a large amounts of factors with the two crucial
being the author of the book and also the review written a literary critic. Both of these can be rid of,
but unfortunately both of these factors alter the readers view of the book even before he begins
to read the book he is being forced the idea of what he can expect from the book, but this is not
good because the taste sensor of the reader is redirected into and indecisive and emotionless
direction because he may view the correct theory behind the story, however his brain does not

Career And Technical Education Essay
Career and Technical Education in High School: Does it Improve Student Outcomes?
Problem
Career and Technical Education (CTE) or vocational education provides preparation and skill
building for careers. Some high school students will enter the workforce without additional training,
but many will receive secondary CTE professional certifications. The goal of CTE is to connect
students with growing industries in the American economy and give them the skills and training
required for long term success. However, little is known about CTE. Therefore, students lack access
to high quality secondary CTE.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the students who participated in CTE especially
those concentrating by taking a sequence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which students are taking CTE courses? Which courses and how many of them are they taking?
(directional)
2. Does greater exposure to CTE improve education and employment outcomes (high school
graduation, college enrollment, employment status, and wages)? (nondirectional)
3. Does CTE concentration (taking a sequence of three or more courses in an occupationally aligned
program of study ) have benefits for students? Do certain students benefit more than others?
(nondirectional)
Research Methods The author uses associational research to investigate relationships between
taking CTE courses and improving outcomes for those students. He used causal comparative
methodologies to compare students who participated in CTE and students that did not.
Subjects Involved This study follows three cohorts of students those who started ninth grade in
2008, 2009, and 2010 (the high school classes of 2012 through 2014) from ninth grade through the
year after they should have graduated high school. These cohorts include over 100,000 individual
students and more than 350,000 student year observations. More specifically, all of these students
are enrolled in Arkansas high schools. This study includes all students in Arkansas that are enrolled
in CTE courses.

Why Did This Man Lost His Memory Analysis
In the article Why Did This Man Lost His Memory, Words, and Even His Ability to Walk? ,
written by Lisa Sanders, an older man s debilitating condition leaves doctors perplexed. The man
s syndrome started as a minor inconvenience, as he forgot a few words and names. Unfortunately,
the gentleman s health deteriorated rapidly and within a half a year, he forgot how to walk and
eat. As a result, his average but satisfying life was gone. He was fired from his auto repair job,
his wife abandoned him, he was forbidden to drive, and extroverted personality turned reclusive.
He was taken to his general health doctor, who referred him to a neurologist. Stumped, the
neurologist sent the (adj person) to Dr. Joel Geerling, a neurologist who specialized

4 Ethical Issues with Enron Essay
There was a vast number of ethical issues raised in the movie Enron the Smartest Guys in the
Room but the four I am going to focus on are listed below. Art Anderson, Ken Lay and all of the
other executives did a number of unethical things which ultimately brought down Enron and
affected thousands of employees and their futures. The bottom line was that each and every one of
them acted out of greed for the almighty dollar.
1 Encouraging employees to invest and buy stock in Enron when they knew the truth about the lack
of value in the stock.
As an employee you trust in your management to make the best choices both for you and for the
business to succeed. Ken Lay and other executives strongly encouraged Enron employees to invest

One Merrill Lynch analyst began to question the numbers and profits that were being produced by
Enron and eventually he was fired. Enron invested a lot of money with Merrill Lynch and they
didn t want Enron to stop investing so Merrill Lynch got rid of the employee who question Enron,
when in reality they should have listened to him. Merrill Lynch s decision not to listen to him
showed other employees that they better keep quiet with their opinions or their jobs would be on
the line. If they listened to him they might have lost the deal with Enron, but in the end they lost it
anyway and lost millions along with it. Merrill Lynch s main focus should have been their
employees and their investors, not solely Enron. They should have stuck to their code of conduct
and followed their values.
3 Manipulated earnings.
Enron executives and accountants cooked the books and lied about the financial state of the
company. They manipulated the earnings and booked revenue that never came in. This was
encouraged by Ken Lay as long as the company was making money. Once word got out that they
were disclosing this information, their stock plummeted from $90 to $0.26 causing the corporation
to file for bankruptcy.
This deception on behalf of the executives and others in the organization who hid this vastly
affected anyone who had stock in Enron as well as stock in other energy corporations. The

The Effect Of Distillation On Boiling Points And Vapor...
Distillation is a technique used in chemistry to isolate/purify a mixture of liquid chemicals based on
boiling points and vapor pressure.1 In this experiment, various isomers of methylcyclohexene were
synthesized from 2 methylcyclohexanol via an alcohol dehydration E1 elimination reaction.
This reaction is in an equilibrium state, and therefore, distilling and then condensing the product as
the reaction progresses allows for a higher yield due to Le Chatelier s principle. Simple distillation
was preformed due to time constraints, and the two chemicals varied in boiling points by
approximately 60 oC. This technique is very common in organic chemistry, for it allows a mixture
of miscible liquids with different boiling points to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
IR spectroscopy is able to determine if starting material was co distilled due to 2 methycyclohexanl
s alcohol functional group that creates a distinct signal in the 3200 cm 1 to 3600 cm 1 range, which
does not appear for the methylcyclohexene products. Also, GC is an adept method to analyze a
mixture of compounds and determine the proportion of chemicals in a solution. This allows for the
identification of all three products and the potential to identify impurities due to co distillation.
Both of these analytical tests are more beneficial than HNMR spectroscopy, which would not
provide as much of an insight to the composition of the distillate solution and the relative amounts
of each chemical that is present. The synthesis of the methylcyclohexene products from 2
methylcyclohexanol occurs through an E1, unimolecular elimination reaction. The first step in this
reaction mechanism involves the protonation of the alcohol group in the starting material. The
oxygen of this alcohol performs a nucleophilic attack on a hydrogen from the phosphoric acid and
gains a positive charge. Then, the pronated alcohol, which is now a good leaving group, leaves the
cyclohexane ring and creates a positive charge on the carbon to which it was

Essay The Facade of Tattoos
The Facade of Tattoos
In quot;Parker s Back quot; by Flannery O Connor, the tattoos O.E. Parker receives are crucial to
the reader s understanding of him. Furthermore, O Connor suggests them as major symbols
throughout Parker s life. Parker, the main character in this story, goes through the actions of life
without really knowing who he is and why he is on the earth. Parker gradually experiences
religious conversion and, though tattooed all over the front of his body, is drawn to having a
Byzantine tattoo of Christ placed on his back..., O Connor was using unusual symbols to convey
her sense of the mystery of God s redemptive power (Shackelford, p 1800). Because of the tattoos,
the reader is able to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parker to tell her story.
Parker s obsession with tattoos begins when he is fourteen and sees a circus performer tattooed
from head to foot. O Connor emphasizes rather heavily...the turning point the experience at the
county fair representing Parker s destiny...the reader is clearly programmed to see it not only as
the beginning of a new life of unease and unrest, but also as a prefiguration of Parker s later
conversion (Bleikasten p368). Parker had never before felt the least motion of wonder in himself.
Until he saw the man at the fair, it did not enter his head that there was anything out of the ordinary
about the fact that he existed...but a peculiar unease settled in him. It was as if a blind boy had
been turned so gently in a different direction that he did not know his destination had been changed.
This first tattoo of the eagle symbolizes pride, freedom, and power for Parker; he appears very
sure of himself, and because of this, he comes across as conceited. Parker thinks of himself as
quot;attractive, quot; whereas Sarah describes him as quot;a heap of vanity quot;. Parker shows his
pride in himself through his tattoos. quot;He did not for a minute think quot; that any woman
would not love to have him. His pride comes through when he points quot;out especial details of
quot; his tattoos to Sarah. One major example of Parker s pride

Strategies For A Successful Business
Customer needs There are three ways to start up a successful business: 1.Do something really
new and people want. 2.Do something that already exists, but do it better. 3.Do something that
already exists, but at lower costs. All of this of course depends on customers needs and wants also
having a good understanding of what existing businesses are supplying. Good customer service is
vital to the success of a new business. Also, lack of enthusiasm of workers will reduce customer
satisfaction. Using market research, a business owner can understand what customers are looking
for. The starting point for checking facts is secondary research finding out data that already exists;
by using google. Secondary research could include the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they both satisfy the customer, it will most likely result in many customers buying that certain
product. o Improving quality consumers don t want something that is cheap looking, they want
something durable. o Offering wide range giving customers many options to choose from, e.g.
Argos. o Innovative products many people desire new products that are in fashion or trending.
There is a high level of demand for iPhones because the quality is excellent; there is a range to
choose from (4, 4s, 5, 5c, 5s, 6 and 6+); with every new release, there is a new feature
(innovation); the prices are reasonable. Apple is competing fiercely against similar businesses
to itself such as Samsung in order to gain customers. Drawbacks of competition: o Increasing
rate of unemployment Because businesses have to cut costs in order to increase their profit and
compete, the number of workers will be cut down and this will mean that the business will lose
skills and the workers will become unemployed for a while before finding another job. Businesses
are always looking for cheaper labour, in some countries, people can be exploited for very little
money and longer hours. For example in India, some people are uneducated and are forced to
work in factories where working conditions are poor; wages are extremely low such as 17p per
hour also working longer hours. This is very unethical and controversial

Rikki Tavi Theme
Rikki Tikki Tavi Argumentative Essay
Theme is the colossal idea we grab from a story after reading it. It s a central idea in literary work.
In the story Rikki Tikki Tavi , by Rudyard Kipling the theme is good versus evil.
Rikki tikki and Nagaina are the main characters of this story. Rikki tikki is the hero, in this short
story or protagonist, and the antagonist, Nagaina is the viscous, mean one. Rikki helps people
and Nagaina is greedy and selfish. This story can possibly have another theme to it. Throughout
the story, Rikki tikki tavi ,Rikki tikki represents the good side of the theme in this story. He s
protective because he asked Nag if he thought it was right for him to eat fledglings that fall out of a
nest. Rikki tikki is also courageous because he isn t afraid to fight Nagaina. In the story Rikki tikki
tells Nagaina, I m not afraid to fight you even if I m small. Wow!! He s a brave guy! Rikki tikki is

shows how selfish she truly is.The next example shows how Nagaina also threatens the child

you move I ll strike, and if you, do not move I strike. Nagaina is very determined to fight Rikki

courage versus fear. Rikki tikki has courage and Chuchundra has fear. Rikki tikki shows courage
in the way he stands up to the cobras, who are the bullies, no matter if he s small or not.
Chuchundra shows fear because he s afraid to mess with the bigger bullies so he stays clear and on

I used to play baseball in high school and college. I even played in an over thirty league back in
the mid eighties. When my child Sarah was born in 1991, baseball wasn t something I thought
she would ever be interested in. But when she was about six, I took her over to the park to hit
some baseballs. She picked up the balls after I hit them, and she got up to bat. She hit a few
balls, and she even ran the bases. Sarah had and still has athletic ability good hand eye

Benjamin Spock had a lot to do with it. Spock s first book, Baby and Child Care was first
published in 1946 just in time for the baby boomer generation. In his book he spoke about
feeding on demand, respecting your children, the need for flexibility, and the lack of the
necessity to worry about spoiling. The paperback sold more than 50 million copies and was
translated into 30 languages. Critics of Spock claimed that he was the father of permissiveness.
In later years, Spock claimed that he never changed his basic philosopy on child care, that it was
imperative to respect children because they re human beings and they deserve respect. But he
seemed to retreat somewhat from his teachings when he made statements such as I ve always
said ask for respect from your children, ask for cooperation, ask for politeness. Give your
children firm leadership. Years later, he beca me more moralistic and he said that parents should
give their children strong values and encourage them to help others. This is only supposition, but
I hypothesize that Spock may have decided that he didn t like what he saw in society and
realized that he may have played a part in the screwing up of generations. In later editions of the
book originally titled The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care, he stressed that children
needed standards and that parents also had a right to respect. He stated in his book

Modern Day Heroes Essay
Modern day heroes can be very important. These heroes importance on americans is that they help
us, the people in many different ways like physically and mentally/ vocally. These heroes empower
common people to do better. these heroes importance to the world is greatest, they help us to be
better (and make the world better) and learn from them. So with these three thing Modern day
Heroes better our world and we would be nothing without them.
To explain my point, The importance of modern day heroes on Americans are they help us. In
passage 1 there s a modern day hero named Betty Ford, Betty was the first lady and she had breast
cancer. Betty opened up about her cancer and told lady s to be safe and check to to see if they
are ok. Betty Ford in a way helped the people physically by making them go to the doctor, this
could have saved people they could have caught the cancer before it was too late. According to
Betty Ford: A New Kind of First Lady Checkups increased by 300 to 400 percent . I put this
quote to show how Betty Ford is so inspiring she had womans wanted to be sure they were alright
and there s a good chance some of those people in that percent might have had breast cancer, so
Betty Ford might have just saved there life. Modern day heroes affect Americans mentally
/ vocally by speaking up and taking a stand. In passage 2 the author spoke up about violence by
involving modern day heroes. Jonah Goldberg (THE AUTHOR) stood up for this one girl named

The Vivacity of the English Language
The English language has always had vivacity. Before English was even a known language, its
linguistic precursors were set in a perpetual forward moving motion that led to the development of
English as we know it. The English language has never been static in geographical location,
vocabulary, grammar, and certainly not in the people who speak it (Crystal).
However, it is important to note that a lingua franca is necessary for people to communicate on a
global level. International relations are important and have been important throughout history.
The League of Nations was the first of many alliances to allocate a special place for English
making it lingua franca for its proceedings. Lingua franca is a shared language of communication
used between people whose main languages are different. In order for a language to become
lingua franca, it must be widely used by those who wield power (Crystal).
There are two main factors that make English a lingua franca. The two factors are its internal and
external qualities. The internal qualities of structure and lexicon are important items in any
language. English is much simpler in these structures than other languages. For example, Latin has
accusative, dative, genitive, feminine, masculine, or neuter, but English does not have these
distinct features. Moreover, English has a vast vocabulary making it more flexible and easier to
pair with other languages. The external qualities of the number of users, geographical diffusion,

Massive Anti-Islam Sentiment in the United States Essay
Islam is a monotheistic religion, centered around the teachings of the Qu ran and serving Allah
(meaning God in Arabic). However, this Abrahamic religion has been harshly discriminated against
in the United States for years. Most prominently throughout the last twelve years, post September
11th, 2001. Unfortunately, issues such as socialization through the media, power distribution,
religious ignorance, stereotyping and visible differences have contributed to the ill attitudes
towards Muslims. This paper will examine how Americans have been socialized in islamophobia
within the United States.

Really anyone who could possibly fit the stereotypical description of an Arab. Harsh attitudes
towards these people have drastically enhanced from the events of September 11st, and remained

September 11th holds many hard and upset feelings around the world today. The harsh actions of
Muslim extremists unfortunately completely changed the way Muslims are treated, especially in
the United States. These events, exacerbated islamophobia. Unfortunately, the terrorist attacks of
September 11, 2001, connect Muslims and Islam to terrorism within the geographical borders of
the United States. (Byng) Although it has been over a decade since the attack, many still feel
racist and discriminatory attitudes towards Muslims. Muslims are the targeted minority in the
United States, the 9/11 terrorist attacks shifted the social and political context for Muslims in the
United States. Terrorism within the geographical borders of the United States carried out by
Muslims places an identity at the center of national and global politics. (Byng) The blame of the
horrible terrorist attacks, rather than be placed on terrorists or religious extremist, has been placed
on Islam in America. After September 11th, hate crimes towards Muslims skyrocketed, the most
dramatic change noted by the report was a more than 1,600 percent increase in reported hate
crimes against Muslims a jump from 28 hate incidents in 2000 to 481 last year.

Social Media and Marketing
In today s day and age, many businesses have made use of social media to market their products
and brands. Although nearly all of these organizations share a common goal of gaining
publicity, the strategies they use to attain that goal varies on different and even on the same
social media platforms. In order to gain attention on Facebook, the most popular social media
website, companies have to utilize multiple approaches to maximize their yield from such
marketing investments. On Facebook, companies have set up third party applications to enable
fans to participate in competitions to win rewards. Snapchat, Google+, and Instagram have also
been used by along with Facebook to encourage the participation of customers in spreading the
word about certain promotions. Moreover, community service events and the allocation of
beneficial intellectual ideas that can both help the world move forward have also been made
possible by social media websites such as Instagram and LinkedIn. Third party applications on
Facebook have facilitated the process through which companies have gained awareness for their
services. AirAsia, for example, is a low cost Malaysian airline that launched a Facebook campaign
to spread the word about their flights being launched to Australia. The company offered their
Facebook fans the opportunity to be flown to Kuala Lumpa with 302 other Facebook friends
(Taylor). This application became viral and enabled AirAsia to nearly double the number of daily

Buffers Lab Report
Title: Buffering Capacity of Common Antacids including Tums, Generic Tums and Generic Alka
Seltzer.
Introduction: This experiment is going to test the ability of antacids and how they absorb acid to
see which is a better buffer. An antacid neutralizes acid, and this helps the most with heartburn.
Heartburn is where stomach acid is regurgitated back into the esophagus, and this causes a
burning feeling in the chest (Oxford University Press, 2017). A buffer is a source of hydroxide
ions that can absorb hydrogen ions, which in turn keeps the pH stable (Mader, 2017). In this
experiment, the different antacids that are being tested to absorb the hydrogen ions from stomach
acid are the buffers. The pH scale helps determine how acidic or basic a solution ... Show more

Analysis Of Superman, Batman, And Wonder Woman
Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, where they are seen as gods with monstrous powers. In
this noir reality, we have Hernan Guerra, Kirk Langstromg, and Bekka as Superman, Batman, and
Wonder Woman. However, apart for the several darker turns of this world, this Justice League
kills. And it brings in the age old question of superheroes, what happens when powerful beings
work against the law?
Superheroes are strong promotions for American propaganda. The Justice League, even Avengers
from Marvel are fighting alongside the American president and with American law. But that doesn t
always mean that they re doing the right thing. Superman and other heroes have been aware. Even
in issue #900 of Action Comics, Superman renounced his American citizenship, and this wasn t his
first time. The best heroes are aware of being tainted by bad politics. This version of Superman,
Batman, and Wonder Woman challenge that in this sensational animated film.
It s a darker world, with darker endings for many surrounding characters. Cyborg s hero story is cut
short by tragedy, and each member of the Trinity carries devastating origin stories.
The entrance is wicked. It s bloody, fast paced, and it pulls you into their world quickly. The
military and president is afraid of the League, but at the same time, the Trinity has only been
beneficial to society as their victims are mainly terrorists and murderers. You will enjoy.

Restorative Justice And The Justice System
Restorative justice has can be seen to have multiple definitions among the most used are:
A) a theory of justice that focuses on repairing the harm caused by criminal behavior and B) an
approach of justice that aims to satisfy the needs of the victims and offenders, as well as the entire
community. The most broadly accepted definition of restorative justice, however, is a process
where all the parties that have equal power in a specific offense and collectively come to a solution
on how to deal with the proper punishment. This process is largely focused on the participation of
victim and offender in aims to provide a healing opportunity. That is to say, it is not a victim
centered approach to criminal justice but also criminal centered, ... Show more content on

Though William R. Wood writes in Why Restorative Justice Will Not Reduce Incarceration the
practice of restorative justice has been proven very successful for minor offenses among adults
and youth in bringing together the offenders, victims, and the community. However, acts of
violence and serious offenses committed by youths have no place in these resolutions. The act
of violence still proves to be highly traumatizing for victims. The high chance of re conviction of
a violent offense and these types of offenses are too complicated to be resolved outside of the
judicial system. In the United States, Lane et al. looked at the South Oxnard Challenge Project
(SOCP), a program for youth offenders that included significant services for youth, as well as a RJ
[restorative justice] component in the form of apologies and/or meetings with victims (Wood). The
ideal method behind the restorative justice process is that criminal behavior would be able to be
reduced by decreasing the expected impact of criminal activity. Restorative justice is centered in the
interest of the victim, the public, and the community. The offender is just to be made aware of their
moral wrongdoing and have it be known that their actions will no longer be tolerated. Deterrence is
not from legal sanctions, but rather from the negative consequences where the criminal behavior is
heightened as a wicked act and therefore the offender becomes shamed. Restorative

Zombie Apocalypse Disasters
There are all kinds of emergencies that we can prepare for; a zombie apocalypse is one of them.
Zombies may be fictional, but natural disasters are a very real concern in which we would take the
same precautions. To prepare for those kinds of outbreaks, you should have a well structured plan.
During a disaster such as a zombie apocalypse, shelter is a vital part in surviving. With zombies
running rampant across the city, we must have a safe and secure shelter for all citizens to hide out
until the apocalypse is over. With that being said, what kind of building should we provide, and
where should these types of shelters be placed? These buildings will be placed underground, so that
the zombies are unable to reach the citizens and resources we have packed inside. To enter these
types of buildings, all people will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cell phones and the internet will quickly become useless. This leaves Amateur Radios as the
most reliable form of communication in a disaster. Amateur Radios, also known as ham radios,
are able to work on a frequency that cannot be taken down due to towers falling or electricity

from you. There is also a list of emergency radio frequencies that are extremely useful in case of a
disaster. For example, frequency 39.46 is use or state police forces, 154.28 is used for the fire

inter departmental messages to the frequencies above. By sending these messages you can not only
communicate to the leaders of each group, but can also communicate to the public. Communication

King Asok Not More Than A Myth Essay
For a long time, King Asoka was thought to be nothing more than a myth. With several writings
concerning him, they all relayed too fantastical an image to be convincing as truthful, keeping
him in a legendary status. This all changed in 1837, well over a thousand years after his death,
when a scholar James Prinsep managed to translate writings on a stone pillar in Delhi. After
several other scholars raced to translate similar writings all over the Indian landscape, it was
revealed that this King Piyadasi was the same as King Asoka. Even with his history pieced
together, Asoka s history is still legendary. He started as a lowly person shunned by his own
father and grew to be a ruler of a kingdom that had never seen complete unity. But indeed, despite
the face of caring compassion he attempted to convey to the Indian people, and despite the reforms
he made to various sectors of his kingdom, it is clear Asoka was only using Buddhismas a way to
unite the people and, more importantly, keep them under his control. It is rumored that Asoka s
grandmother was a Greek princess, with his lineage being traced back to the Seleucus kingship,
and that his Asoka s grandmother would have told him stories of Alexander the Great and other
Greek warriors, inspiring Asoka and gearing him towards being the warrior he would become in
the Kalinga Wars. Asoka s mother is supposed to be the daughter of a Brahman, a Hindu priest. She
eventually married the King of India, one of the first of the

suitable accommodation is available, to provide medical coverage until the employee is covered
under a provincial plan and to sign an employee/employer contract. The work permit is issued with

Temporary foreign workers may contribute to an overall lowering of wages. Many companies rely

Biomaterials have been successfully developed and applied in biomedical devices. Natural
polymers are readily accepted by the body and possess high bioactivity and biocompatibility.
Chitosan, a copolymer of glucosamine and N acetyl glucosamine, and is among the most abundant
biopolymers on earth and has been used in a wide range of biomedical applications. Chitosan a
polycationic polymer comprise of different functional groups that can be modified with a wide

Unlike plant fibres, chitosan possesses positive ionic charges which give it the ability to
chemically bind with negative charge fats, lipids, proteins, cholesterol, macromolecules and metal
ions 26. In view of this, chitosan have increasing commercial interest as suitable resource
materials due to their excellent properties including biocompatibility, biodegradability,
adsorption, and ability to form films and to chelate metal ions 27. Chitosan and simple aldehydes
produce N alkyl chitosan upon hydrogenation. The presence of the more or less bulky
substituents weakens the hydrogen bonds of the chitosan. Therefore, N alkyl chitosan swell in
water inspite of the hydrophobicity of alkyl chains. The N alkyl chitosan retain the film forming

it more versatile in comparison to chitin. Below are some chemical and biological properties28 of

The Effects Of Workplace Safety On Organizations And Society
Understanding the importance of workplace safety prevention is critical in the study of
occupational health and safety. Workplace violence is a term used to describe a situation in which
an individual experiences verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, harassment, or physical assault in
their place of employment or business related functions or events (OSH Answers Fact Sheet). This
is a common occurrence in many workplaces and has a significant impact on the employees mental
state, interfering with their ability to work successfully (Barling). Through research on the OHSA,
the Occupational Safety and HealthAct and historical data, we are able to explore the implications
of workplace safety on organizations and society. CCOHS, the... Show more content on

A survey conducted in 2004 demonstrated that 17% of reported incidents, or approximately
356,000 incidents occurred in the workplace. It is also estimated that only one in five victims
reported workplace violence (Violence in the Workplace). It is clear that workplace violence is an
ongoing issue that should be an immense part of occupational health and safety. The reason that
workplace violence is a significant topic of discussion is because it causes severe consequences to
not only the victim, but to other employees and the organization as a whole. Research shows that
when primary victims experience violence in the workplace, there is an increased risk of
developing PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder (Barling). For example, a study of 30 Irish victims
of workplace bullying reported feelings of anxiety, irritability, depression and paranoia (Matthiesen).
A few more symptoms of PTSD may include avoiding situations, activities, or people that remind
them of the traumatic events and difficulty concentrating or remembering information, which are
factors that hinder an employee s productivity in the workplace (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder,
2015). Workplace violence does not only affect the primary victim. Secondary victims are known as
the individuals that experience the same anxiety and discomfort as primary victims, even

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women and has an

fact that as adults, we tend to lead a very demanding lifestyle and constantly struggle through a

At the same time, with a little research it s never too late to change a bad habit and there is a light
at the end of the tunnel. Significant progress has been made over the last 50 years in understanding
the causes of chronic illnesses, as well as development in areas that provide knowledge to detect,
prevent, and maintain comparable diseases. Improvement in public health and health care have
increased life expectancy by approximately 30 years and has led to dramatic changes in the leading
causes of death. With this information we now have a better understanding of the long term effects
our choices will make and those results have already affected the market around us. Fast food
chains now provide menu selections for their health conscious customers such as nutritional
listings, optional cooking methods, and the use of organic and Non GMO ingredients. Similarly,
patients that suffer from congestive heart failure and smoke may be drawn to the more recent e

their health related risks if electronic cigarettes are used in place of tobacco cigarettes when on the

The Discovery Of The Praeneste Fibula
Fibula Praeneste
The Praeneste fibula has been the center of controversy amongst scholars since it s initial
presentation of discovery on January 7, 1887. There have been debates over the authenticity of the
inscription ranging from the unique language and grammatical features to undetermined discovery
site. The artifact has been estimated to origin from around the 7th century B.C., but there are
scholars who argue the artifact is a forgery dating from the 19th century. The inscription uses
lettering that resembled early Etruscan and Greek inscription from around 7th century B.C. The
Praeneste fibula is an early indication that other Italian languages influence on Latin in a frontier
city such as the early Praeneste. In more recent years, scholars have used a new scientific method to
perform an in depth examination of the inscription to determine the origin date. The results have
determined that the Praeneste fibula is in fact authentic and dates to 7th century, which is well
before the believed forgery was produced. To understand the controversy that has plagued the
Praeneste fibula, one must look into the details of the artifact and unique features of the
inscription. The Praeneste fibula is a gold brooch, which was reportedly found at Praeneste in
1871. Either men or women could have used the fibula as a means of holding together clothing
garments. The artifact was alone, but is assumed by scholars to be a part of an entire outfit because
of the valuable nature.

Literary Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Brian Hornsby Professor Short ENG 102 14 December 2017 Analysis of Robert Frost s The
Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is a famous poem that many people are
familiar with. In the poem the speaker arrives at a fork in the road where both paths are strewn
with leaves. The speaker stands there for a time to contemplate which direction to take, and
finally decides to take the plunge on the one less traveled. He comforts himself with his decision
by telling himself that he can take the other road another day even though he knows this is
unlikely to happen. The poem concludes with the speaker s affirmation in his choice by
acknowledging the importance of his decision. Frost uses the image of two roads diverging in a
yellow wood to symbolize the choices that one is confronted with in life and the consequences
of making decisions. The poem s structure consists of four stanzas containing five lines. Each
line contains four stressed syllables making the poem iambic tetrameter. The rhyming scheme is
ABAAB throughout the poem until the final stanza where it is broken on the last line with the
final word difference . This change in convention makes the final line stand out and gives greater
impact to the ending. The first stanza conveys a mood of change and introduces the idea of a
life altering decision, which is the basis for the poem. The scene is set with the opening words,
Two roads diverged (line 1). The speaker is standing at a junction in the road pondering two
choices. The roads in the poem are merged where the speaker is standing but lead in two
different directions signifying two different paths in life. One begins to see the metaphorical
meaning as early as the first line with the reference to yellow wood (line 1). This suggests that
the setting happens during fall which is the season of change. The second line, sorry I could not
have traveled both (line 2) expresses the curiosity to explore several possibilities in life. It also
forms a sense of regret at not knowing what could lie ahead on the unchosen road and the speaker
s limitation to one lifetime. When the speaker says, And be one traveler (line 3), it is obvious that
it is not possible to travel down both paths. He

Conflict Between Palestine And Israel
Demolitions, since 1967, Israel has demolished more than 26,000 Palestinian owned structures in
the occupied Palestinian territory. Additionally, between 1967 and 2011 over 14,000 Palestinians
had their residency rights in Jerusalem revoked and have thus permanently lost their right to live in

addition to the official 300 meter restricted access area, Israeli forces conduct regular raids one

land included in the restricted access area accounts for 17 percent of the total Gaza land area and
includes 35 percent of Gaza s agricultural land. These problems do not simply breed bad feelings
between the nations now but the constant state of tension between Palestineand Israel creates a long

Matisse s Bonheur De Vivre, Paul CГ©zanne
Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre, Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, and Paul CГ©zanne s The
Large Bathers (Harris Zucker, n.d.) were some of the most notable paintings at the beginning of
the 20th century. At this time, art had essentially evolved from the impressionist movement,
whose ideas were mainly the building blocks of the modernist movement. This paper looks at
these specific works with respect to how Picasso s and Matisse s pieces can be regarded as
having been inspired by and moving away from CГ©zanne s piece at the same time. The Large
Bathers depicts some female nude figures placed in a space between trees on either side. One
striking similarity with Bonheur de Vivre is that it also has nude female figures as part of the
main subject matter. This seemed like a common theme at the time as artists expressed their
thoughts through paintings. In addition, Matisse used color to great effect in his painting, just as
color was used on CГ©zanne s. The canvas on The Large Bathers shows the use of color and
diagonal lines to give an impression of the element of space both in the foreground and beyond the
position of the female figures. What s different in Matisse s painting is that the space is shown

Differences Between Iranian Revolution And English Civil War
Investigation
Although occurring at very different times throughout history, looking back today the Iranian
Revolution and English Civil War were very much alike. Both revolutions had a lot to do with the
leaders of the time and both immediately resulted in turmoil. The Iranian revolution and English
Civil war had similar causes however the English Civil War was more successful in ensuring lasting
democracy.
Firstly, Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi was the extremely isolated leader of Iran who was extremely
concerned, by any means necessary, with consolidating his power. Not only did the Shah
completely remove himself from the suffering society and ignore the injustice surrounding him
but he ruled with absolute power meaning that everyone else had little say in government, if any
at all. The Shah also created a force known as the SAVAK, and it was largely and widely feared
by those who opposed the regime as it was known for extreme surveillance, torture and even
execution. Mohammed Reza Shah completely overlooked the fact that up to 70%of Iran s
population of 20 million was living in poverty without basic liberties and at the mercy of their
landlords. This evidence proves that the needs of the Iranian people were not being met which in
many cases, like the case of the English Civil War sets the stage for revolution. Charles Stuart I,
was a leader who also ruled by divine right with the belief that he was superior to everyone,
including parliament whom he, due to this

Differences Between English, Spanish, And Spanish...
Colonization was such an important prosses to the world we live in today. Explorer would cross
the ocean and overcome many obstacles to try to find new land for their countries. The lands that
they did find were distinct in many different ways. The English, French, and the Spanish each
had unique settlements and geography. Each one had different governments, and religions.
Lastly, each colony had separate and different relations with the Native Americans. Each of
these three colonies had very different settlement patterns, and geographies. First most of all the
English colonies were created by the royal people of the colony, and were settled in Quebec,
Montreal, and Louisiana. Some of the very first trading s began were in Virginia and
Massachusetts, but then they all began to spread. On the other hand, in France the first colonies
that they began to trade with was in Newfoundland, but then continued with places like parts of
Canada, and the Mississippi River. Lastly, Spain has the longest colonization story. Colonization
in Spain began in 1492 when Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue looking for India but
ended up in Central America, which became a thriving colony of Spain becoming a huge value

work because either their family was poor or they were orphans. Children most of the time worked
in mines, glass factories, textiles, canaries, and home industries. A lot of these industries are filled
with dangers that can easily kill them. In this quote Children as young as six years old during the
industrial revolution worked hard hours for little or no pay (Child labor in factories). A good
number of these kids were harassed and mistreated by the factory bosses. If children didn t arrive
on time to work, they would have to be punished by the factory bosses. The punishment was that
the children would have to sprint up and down the factory aisle until they were completely
drained out of energy and they had to do this nude carrying a backpack full of heavy objects. This

Eliza Hamilton s Transformation
Beethoven said, Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. This has been an
absolute truth in my life. Music has paved the way for me to traverse the obstacles in life;
Broadway musicals especially. West Side Story soundtrack helped me through my first breakup,
while Bring it On , encouraged me while training for a triathlon. My connection with musichas
been, but one would never expect to find an integral piece of themselves in a musical about a
founding father.
Hamilton: An American Musical is my favorite Broadway musical. Countless hours have been
spent listening to the score, and putting on one woman shows, singing all forty six songs for
anyone who will listen.. Although the production is centred around the charismatic personality of
Alexander Hamilton, the deepest for me lies with Eliza Hamilton, the dutiful wife of Alexander
Hamilton.
Eliza s transformation from a shadow of a girl to a fearless, strong woman hit home with me.
Through great personal sacrifice and sheer will, Eliza is able to create her own distinct legacy,
one that resonates to this very day. Eliza in Act I is demure and naive. After she falls head over
heels in love with Alexander, she never truly stands up for herself even when he continually
chooses his work over her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading up to this moment, Eliza has been the perfect passive mother that society conditioned her
to be. However, after news of the affair becomes public, she rises up and transforms into a woman.
She punishes Alexander for his actions by detaching herself from their marriage, and burning the
letters they shared; Thereby destroying history s chance to write her response to the affair for her.
In turn, Eliza creates her own legacy by creating the first private orphanage in NYC, raising funds
for the Washington Monument, and publicly speaking out against slavery, all on her

The Notorious Bettie Page Essay
She was called The Queen of Curves and Miss Pinup Girl of the World . Bettie Page, a Tennessee
native who found success as a model in 1950 s New York, appeared in photos that were as
scandalous as they were sensational. Though tame today, many of the BDSM pictorials and 16mm
films that Page was featured in were deemed pornographic at the time, leading to an investigation
by a Senate Committee into the negative effects such photos were having on the youth of the day.
Yet despite all the controversy surrounding her, Page s popularity never once waned (she was
even one of Playboy magazine s earliest centerfolds). The Notorious Bettie Page, the extraordinary
2005 biopic written and directed by Mary Herron, is a stylish motion picture that delves... Show

In addition to the fine work of its lead actress, writer/director Mary Herron s bold decision to
shoot The Notorious Bettie Page in black and white proved a stroke of genius, and gave the
finished product the look and feel of a movie from the era in which its story is set (even the brief
splashes of color, including all of the movie s Florida sequences, look as if they were shot in 50s
era Technicolor). With its fine supporting cast (especially Jared Harris as the slightly odd John
Willie, a business associate of the Klaws ), exceptional sets and costumes, and the often seamless
manner in which stock footage from the time period was incorporated into the movie, The
Notorious Bettie Page is, without a doubt, an impressive biopic. But it s the combined talents of
Mol and Herron, not to mention the film s fascinating main subject, that make it

Incident Background On September 24, 2010, a laptop was stolen from an unlocked Urology
office at the Henry Ford Health Systems hospital. The laptop did contain password protection
software; however, it may not have been enough to permit access if the thief had advanced
knowledge in computers. Additionally, the information stored on the laptop did not include social
security or health insurance information, but instead held patient names, medical record numbers,
dates of birth, telephone numbers, e mail addresses, and treatment and doctor visits (Moscaritolo,
2010, p. 1). It is unknown how many records were contained on the laptop, but all records were
related to prostate services that were provided during an eleven year span.
Reaction to Incident Once it was revealed that the laptop was missing, Meredith Phillips, the
chief privacy officer for the hospital, notified all involved patients by letter and offered each of
them a free one year credit monitoring service (Henry Ford Health System, 2010). The hospital
also established a telephone help line that addressed patient concerns (toll free), as well as initiated
an internal investigation to determine if appropriate security measures were followed. Furthermore,
all employees were re trained in security procedures and

Intercultural Competency Paper
Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires
through birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth
process may start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is
supposed to follow, true intercultural competenceevolves when behaviors are internalized and occur
naturally because they feel right (Medina LГіpez Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and
difficulties are sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural
deepening (Stephenson, 2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed
in a new cultural environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and
physical health issues (Li et al., 2013).
The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature
references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to
identify any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what
dimensions of intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012;
Godwin Jones, 2013). Griffith et al. (2016), compiled a thorough ... Show more content on

The Case Of Cooper V Hobart
Precedents have played a significant role construction and transformation public policy over
time. The concern that judges face is whether establishing a new duty of care will influence
public policy. This is the issue that results from in the Cooper v. Hobart case. The judge
constructed a final decision that Hobart did not owe a duty of care to Cooper due to
explanations that are delineated in public policy. This essay will discuss in favour of the judge s
decision for the reason that establishing a new duty of care would have conflicted with existing
public policy. Initially, I will be providing a concise summary about the case of Cooper v Hobart.
This involves the facts, issues and ratio. Then, I will elucidate what the Anns test is... Show more

At the first stage of the Anns test, two questions arise: The first question is whether the
circumstances disclose reasonably foreseeable harm and proximity sufficient to establish prima
facie duty of care. The first inquiry at this stage is whether the case falls within or is analogous
to a category of cases in which a duty of care has previously been recognized. The next question
is whether this is situation in which a new duty of care should be recognized. At the second
stage of the Anns test, the question still remains whether there are residual policy consideration
outside the relationship of the parties that may negative the imposition of a duty of care. It is
useful to expressly ask, before imposing a new duty of care, whether despite foreseeability and
proximity of relationship, there are other policy reasons why the duty should not be imposed. This
part of test only arises in cases where the duty of care asserted does not fall within a recognized
category. The trial judge concluded that the pleadings disclosed a cause of action in negligence and
that the plaintiffs should be permitted to bring a class action . The Anns test is test for determining
the existence of a duty of care in the tort of negligence. The importance of the Anns lies in its
recognition that policy consideration play an important role in determining proximity in new
situations. This was a test that

Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice in The Republic
An Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice
Introduction
This paper will consider Socrates definition of justice in the individual by showing what, according
to this definition, makes people and action just and whether Socrates definition of justice is
plausible. It appears that Socrates definition of justice is plausible but demanding. However, because
the transcendentals that Socrates seeks are like the light at the top of the mountain up which the
philosopher climbs after leaving the cave, it must be realized that the journey toward justice is one
of labor but not one that is implausible.
Context
Plato founded the Academy at Athens after Socrates death and preserved the lessons that Socrates
had taught, essentially laying a foundation for the study of philosophy in Western Civilization.
Plato s Republic seeks to unite the lessons of the Academy with the circle of politics that occupied
much of Plato s life: The Republic, in fact, teaches that unless philosophy and politics unite
completely, the evils of the state will never cease. This unity, indeed, is what is at the core of
Socrates (and therefore Plato s) definition of justice.
As B. M. Laing states, The Republic argues that justice is the principle which co ordinates different
arts (Laing, The Problem of Justice in Plato s Republic, p. 412). The definition of justice that
Socrates attempts to explore throughout The Republic is one that considers the individual in
relation to the city or the

Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers
The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of
illegal boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403
people in closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these
high detention rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that
there were 4,313 reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these
immigration detention facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and
the 20th of June 2013 6 of these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These
statistics are incredibly alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not
only mental illness but also the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of
this report is to analyse and scrutinize the reason why mental healthissues for asylum seekers are
becoming an issue in Australia, and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing
issue in Australia.
An asylum seeker is a person who has fled their own country and applied for protection as a refugee
. As an asylum seeker their experience is extremely different to that of a Migrant. A Migrant
chooses to leave their home country, and can choose where to go and when they might return to
their home country, whereas, an asylum seeker or refugee are forced to flee their country for their
own safety,

Romanov Dynasty Essay
The Romanov Dynasty held the Russian Empire as one of the most powerful European states for
over three centuries. In 1917, during Nicholas II s opposed reign, a revolution began that
transformed the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule
and introducing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The First World War acted as a catalyst for
change and exacerbated any existing grievances to the point at which they overpowered all loyalty
to the Tsar and destroyed the monarchy. The war brought many of Russias underlying social,
political, economic, and military problems into sharp focus which were destructive forces leading
to the downfall of the Russian dynasty. On a military scale Russia was no match... Show more

The diversion of resources to the war effort caused severe problems for the civilian population of
Russia. The loss of agricultural workers and horses to the army, alongside the takeover of
railway lines by the army lead to drastic shortages of food in towns and cities due to poor internal
communications. Due to the limited resources it was difficult for those peasants who hadn t
joined the army to sustain agricultural output. The lack of workers and resources in the rural
areas put a strain on the already backwards Russian agricultural system. For example Moscow, in
1914, had received 2200 railway wagons of grain per month, but by Christmas of 1916 this was
limited to only 300 wagons. Inadequate transport saw the already limited city food supplies left
rotting at rural railway stations. Due to the limited supply of food, rationing was taking place,
under which each person was entitled to a mere 50g of bread per day. The main priority was to
supply the soldiers with food and this took precedence over food supply of the cities. The lack of
food triggered agitation in the society, and caused the people to take part in strikes and
demonstrations in Petrograd, which led to the abdication of the Tsar. Living standards were on the
decline. The rapid industrial growth during war caused problems as it enlarged the working class
and drew labourers from the countryside, putting strain on antiquated urban infrastructure and
overstretching

Alternative Future Energy Storage And Conversion Systems
Metal air batteries have been intensively explored as an alternative future energy storage and
conversion systems owing to their intrinsically high energy and power densities, the relatively
mature research on air electrode, and cost effective composition of non noble fuel electrode, as
well as in response to the high energy demand for portable devices and electric vehicles even
stationary power plants [1 5]. Of late, research into the metal air techniques has been focused on
Zn air (~1,000 Wh kg 1), Li air (~13,000 Wh kg 1), and Ge air (~1,500 Wh kg 1) batteries
because of its very high specific energy and energy density with open cell air cathode structure [3
6]. With these devices, however, the electrochemical energy could be stored in the stationary part
as form of sacrificial metal anode. This distinct architecture would make a limitation approach for
large scale commercialization unless the anode can provide good electrochemical reversibility and
high cyclic durability.
As a feasible alternative to continuous operation, recently, a high temperature liquid metal air
energy storage cell (LMAESC) in conjunction with a solid oxide electrolyte has been investigated
applying post transition metals such as In [7], Sn [7 17], Sb [18 25], Pb [7], and Bi [12] as a
sacrificial electrode, so called liquid metal anode (LMA). Since these liquid metals has relatively
low melting point, it can improve the anode polarization by incorporating liquid wetting materials
to spread on the

As time passed by the ideology of books has changed from chronicles to stories or significal events that occurred in history this has then altered until the books had a literary purpose of provoking reader s emotions. Taste of one is the crucial factor of creating a certain perception of the book, but this is often biased because a taste isn t allowed to be created. The discussion of a book depends on various factors such as the author of the book, the sequel of the book or a literary critics review of the book. • 6. 4 Ethical Issues with Enron Essay There was a vast number of ethical issues raised in the movie Enron the Smartest Guys in the Room but the four I am going to focus on are listed below. Art Anderson, Ken Lay and all of the other executives did a number of unethical things which ultimately brought down Enron and affected thousands of employees and their futures. The bottom line was that each and every one of them acted out of greed for the almighty dollar. 1 Encouraging employees to invest and buy stock in Enron when they knew the truth about the lack of value in the stock. Enron invested a lot of money with Merrill Lynch and they didn t want Enron to stop investing so Merrill Lynch got rid of the employee who question Enron, when in reality they should have listened to him. Merrill Lynch s decision not to listen to him showed other employees that they better keep quiet with their opinions or their jobs would be on the line. If they listened to him they might have lost the deal with Enron, but in the end they lost it anyway and lost millions along with it. Merrill Lynch s main focus should have been their employees and their investors, not solely Enron. They should have stuck to their code of conduct and followed their values. 3 Manipulated earnings. Enron executives and accountants cooked the books and lied about the financial state of the company. They manipulated the earnings and booked revenue that never came in. This was encouraged by Ken Lay as long as the company was making money. Once word got out that they were disclosing this information, their stock plummeted from $90 to $0.26 causing the corporation to file for bankruptcy. • 7. The Effect Of Distillation On Boiling Points And Vapor... Distillation is a technique used in chemistry to isolate/purify a mixture of liquid chemicals based on boiling points and vapor pressure.1 In this experiment, various isomers of methylcyclohexene were synthesized from 2 methylcyclohexanol via an alcohol dehydration E1 elimination reaction. This reaction is in an equilibrium state, and therefore, distilling and then condensing the product as the reaction progresses allows for a higher yield due to Le Chatelier s principle. Simple distillation was preformed due to time constraints, and the two chemicals varied in boiling points by approximately 60 oC. This technique is very common in organic chemistry, for it allows a mixture of miscible liquids with different boiling points to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... IR spectroscopy is able to determine if starting material was co distilled due to 2 methycyclohexanl s alcohol functional group that creates a distinct signal in the 3200 cm 1 to 3600 cm 1 range, which does not appear for the methylcyclohexene products. Also, GC is an adept method to analyze a mixture of compounds and determine the proportion of chemicals in a solution. This allows for the identification of all three products and the potential to identify impurities due to co distillation. Both of these analytical tests are more beneficial than HNMR spectroscopy, which would not provide as much of an insight to the composition of the distillate solution and the relative amounts of each chemical that is present. The synthesis of the methylcyclohexene products from 2 methylcyclohexanol occurs through an E1, unimolecular elimination reaction. The first step in this reaction mechanism involves the protonation of the alcohol group in the starting material. The oxygen of this alcohol performs a nucleophilic attack on a hydrogen from the phosphoric acid and gains a positive charge. Then, the pronated alcohol, which is now a good leaving group, leaves the cyclohexane ring and creates a positive charge on the carbon to which it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Until he saw the man at the fair, it did not enter his head that there was anything out of the ordinary about the fact that he existed...but a peculiar unease settled in him. It was as if a blind boy had been turned so gently in a different direction that he did not know his destination had been changed. Drawbacks of competition: o Increasing rate of unemployment Because businesses have to cut costs in order to increase their profit and compete, the number of workers will be cut down and this will mean that the business will lose skills and the workers will become unemployed for a while before finding another job. Businesses are always looking for cheaper labour, in some countries, people can be exploited for very little money and longer hours. The paperback sold more than 50 million copies and was translated into 30 languages. Critics of Spock claimed that he was the father of permissiveness. In later years, Spock claimed that he never changed his basic philosopy on child care, that it was imperative to respect children because they re human beings and they deserve respect. But he seemed to retreat somewhat from his teachings when he made statements such as I ve always said ask for respect from your children, ask for cooperation, ask for politeness. Give your children firm leadership. Years later, he beca me more moralistic and he said that parents should give their children strong values and encourage them to help others. This is only supposition, but I hypothesize that Spock may have decided that he didn t like what he saw in society and realized that he may have played a part in the screwing up of generations. • 13. The Vivacity of the English Language The English language has always had vivacity. Before English was even a known language, its linguistic precursors were set in a perpetual forward moving motion that led to the development of English as we know it. The English language has never been static in geographical location, vocabulary, grammar, and certainly not in the people who speak it (Crystal). However, it is important to note that a lingua franca is necessary for people to communicate on a global level. International relations are important and have been important throughout history. The League of Nations was the first of many alliances to allocate a special place for English making it lingua franca for its proceedings. Lingua franca is a shared language of communication used between people whose main languages are different. In order for a language to become lingua franca, it must be widely used by those who wield power (Crystal). There are two main factors that make English a lingua franca. The two factors are its internal and external qualities. The internal qualities of structure and lexicon are important items in any language. English is much simpler in these structures than other languages. For example, Latin has accusative, dative, genitive, feminine, masculine, or neuter, but English does not have these distinct features. Moreover, English has a vast vocabulary making it more flexible and easier to pair with other languages. The external qualities of the number of users, geographical diffusion, ... Heartburn is where stomach acid is regurgitated back into the esophagus, and this causes a burning feeling in the chest (Oxford University Press, 2017). A buffer is a source of hydroxide ions that can absorb hydrogen ions, which in turn keeps the pH stable (Mader, 2017). The most broadly accepted definition of restorative justice, however, is a process where all the parties that have equal power in a specific offense and collectively come to a solution on how to deal with the proper punishment. Wood writes in Why Restorative Justice Will Not Reduce Incarceration the practice of restorative justice has been proven very successful for minor offenses among adults and youth in bringing together the offenders, victims, and the community. However, acts of violence and serious offenses committed by youths have no place in these resolutions. The act of violence still proves to be highly traumatizing for victims. The high chance of re conviction of a violent offense and these types of offenses are too complicated to be resolved outside of the judicial system. In the United States, Lane et al. looked at the South Oxnard Challenge Project (SOCP), a program for youth offenders that included significant services for youth, as well as a RJ [restorative justice] component in the form of apologies and/or meetings with victims (Wood). The ideal method behind the restorative justice process is that criminal behavior would be able to be reduced by decreasing the expected impact of criminal activity. Restorative justice is centered in the interest of the victim, the public, and the community. The offender is just to be made aware of their moral wrongdoing and have it be known that their actions will no longer be tolerated. Deterrence is not from legal sanctions, but rather from the negative consequences where the criminal behavior is heightened as a wicked act and therefore the offender becomes shamed. Restorative ... With several writings concerning him, they all relayed too fantastical an image to be convincing as truthful, keeping him in a legendary status. This all changed in 1837, well over a thousand years after his death, when a scholar James Prinsep managed to translate writings on a stone pillar in Delhi. After several other scholars raced to translate similar writings all over the Indian landscape, it was revealed that this King Piyadasi was the same as King Asoka. Even with his history pieced together, Asoka s history is still legendary. He started as a lowly person shunned by his own father and grew to be a ruler of a kingdom that had never seen complete unity. But indeed, despite the face of caring compassion he attempted to convey to the Indian people, and despite the reforms he made to various sectors of his kingdom, it is clear Asoka was only using Buddhismas a way to unite the people and, more importantly, keep them under his control. It is rumored that Asoka s grandmother was a Greek princess, with his lineage being traced back to the Seleucus kingship, and that his Asoka s grandmother would have told him stories of Alexander the Great and other Greek warriors, inspiring Asoka and gearing him towards being the warrior he would become in the Kalinga Wars. It is clear that workplace violence is an ongoing issue that should be an immense part of occupational health and safety. The reason that workplace violence is a significant topic of discussion is because it causes severe consequences to not only the victim, but to other employees and the organization as a whole. Research shows that when primary victims experience violence in the workplace, there is an increased risk of developing PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder (Barling). For example, a study of 30 Irish victims of workplace bullying reported feelings of anxiety, irritability, depression and paranoia (Matthiesen). A few more symptoms of PTSD may include avoiding situations, activities, or people that remind them of the traumatic events and difficulty concentrating or remembering information, which are factors that hinder an employee s productivity in the workplace (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2015). There have been debates over the authenticity of the inscription ranging from the unique language and grammatical features to undetermined discovery site. The artifact has been estimated to origin from around the 7th century B.C., but there are scholars who argue the artifact is a forgery dating from the 19th century. The inscription uses lettering that resembled early Etruscan and Greek inscription from around 7th century B.C. The Praeneste fibula is an early indication that other Italian languages influence on Latin in a frontier city such as the early Praeneste. • 35. Literary Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Brian Hornsby Professor Short ENG 102 14 December 2017 Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is a famous poem that many people are familiar with. In the poem the speaker arrives at a fork in the road where both paths are strewn with leaves. The speaker stands there for a time to contemplate which direction to take, and finally decides to take the plunge on the one less traveled. He comforts himself with his decision by telling himself that he can take the other road another day even though he knows this is unlikely to happen. The poem concludes with the speaker s affirmation in his choice by acknowledging the importance of his decision. Frost uses the image of two roads diverging in a yellow wood to symbolize the choices that one is confronted with in life and the consequences of making decisions. The poem s structure consists of four stanzas containing five lines. Each line contains four stressed syllables making the poem iambic tetrameter. The rhyming scheme is ABAAB throughout the poem until the final stanza where it is broken on the last line with the final word difference . This change in convention makes the final line stand out and gives greater impact to the ending. The first stanza conveys a mood of change and introduces the idea of a life altering decision, which is the basis for the poem. The scene is set with the opening words, Two roads diverged (line 1). The speaker is standing at a junction in the road pondering two choices. The roads in the poem are merged where the speaker is standing but lead in two different directions signifying two different paths in life. One begins to see the metaphorical meaning as early as the first line with the reference to yellow wood (line 1). This suggests that the setting happens during fall which is the season of change. The second line, sorry I could not have traveled both (line 2) expresses the curiosity to explore several possibilities in life. It also forms a sense of regret at not knowing what could lie ahead on the unchosen road and the speaker s limitation to one lifetime. When the speaker says, And be one traveler (line 3), it is obvious that it is not possible to travel down both paths. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Large Bathers depicts some female nude figures placed in a space between trees on either side. One striking similarity with Bonheur de Vivre is that it also has nude female figures as part of the main subject matter. Differences Between Iranian Revolution And English Civil War Investigation Although occurring at very different times throughout history, looking back today the Iranian Revolution and English Civil War were very much alike. Both revolutions had a lot to do with the leaders of the time and both immediately resulted in turmoil. The Iranian revolution and English Civil war had similar causes however the English Civil War was more successful in ensuring lasting democracy. Firstly, Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi was the extremely isolated leader of Iran who was extremely concerned, by any means necessary, with consolidating his power. Not only did the Shah completely remove himself from the suffering society and ignore the injustice surrounding him but he ruled with absolute power meaning that everyone else had little say in government, if any at all. The Shah also created a force known as the SAVAK, and it was largely and widely feared by those who opposed the regime as it was known for extreme surveillance, torture and even execution. Mohammed Reza Shah completely overlooked the fact that up to 70%of Iran s population of 20 million was living in poverty without basic liberties and at the mercy of their landlords. This evidence proves that the needs of the Iranian people were not being met which in many cases, like the case of the English Civil War sets the stage for revolution. As seen in the film, the Warden and the guards were in sheer horror, unable to figure out what happened. Meanwhile, Andy is seen strolling into Maine National Bank under the of Randall Stevens , the character he conjured up out of thin air. Andy is also seen depositing money and dropping off mail to be delivered. It was later revealed that the mail was sent to the newspaper revealing the corruption behind Shawshank State prison. The next morning the tables completely turn and everything has taken a turn for the better. With Andy successfully escaping and venturing off to Zihuatanejo, Captain Hadley is arrested, the Warden committed suicide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay Child Labor During The Industrial Revolution During the 18 and beginning of the 19th century in certain regions of the U.S child labor made up more than 40 percent of the population (Wolensky). That s almost half of the working population. Since the beginning of time children have always been known to help their families with domestic tasks. Most of these kids worked in factories because they were easy to control and paid less than adults. Kids earned less than half of what adults made in the work force. In these factories they usually cleaned under and inside machines while functioning because of their small size.. That s how these kids felt as it was described in a article in our history book. They were always in danger of getting hurt or even dying, which many did. Kids as young... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote I found from an online article explains what kids went through during this harsh time. It almost sounds like they were slaves by how low they were getting paid. Most of us have never even heard of kids working late at nights doing jobs that today no one can possibly do because they have been replaced with machines from the dangers they carry. Children worked some of the most dangerous factory jobs that existed and they didn t by choice. They had no choice but to work because either their family was poor or they were orphans. Children most of the time worked in mines, glass factories, textiles, canaries, and home industries. A lot of these industries are filled with dangers that can easily kill them. In this quote Children as young as six years old during the industrial revolution worked hard hours for little or no pay (Child labor in factories). A good number of these kids were harassed and mistreated by the factory bosses. If children didn t arrive on time to work, they would have to be punished by the factory bosses. The punishment was that the children would have to sprint up and down the factory aisle until they were completely drained out of energy and they had to do this nude carrying a backpack full of heavy objects. This caused a lot of children to develop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Music has paved the way for me to traverse the obstacles in life; Broadway musicals especially. West Side Story soundtrack helped me through my first breakup, while Bring it On , encouraged me while training for a triathlon. My connection with musichas been, but one would never expect to find an integral piece of themselves in a musical about a founding father. Hamilton: An American Musical is my favorite Broadway musical. Countless hours have been spent listening to the score, and putting on one woman shows, singing all forty six songs for anyone who will listen.. Although the production is centred around the charismatic personality of Alexander Hamilton, the deepest for me lies with Eliza Hamilton, the dutiful wife of Alexander Hamilton. Eliza s transformation from a shadow of a girl to a fearless, strong woman hit home with me. Through great personal sacrifice and sheer will, Eliza is able to create her own distinct legacy, one that resonates to this very day. Eliza in Act I is demure and naive. After she falls head over heels in love with Alexander, she never truly stands up for herself even when he continually chooses his work over her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In turn, Eliza creates her own legacy by creating the first private orphanage in NYC, raising funds for the Washington Monument, and publicly speaking out against slavery, all on her ... Bettie Page, a Tennessee native who found success as a model in 1950 s New York, appeared in photos that were as scandalous as they were sensational. Though tame today, many of the BDSM pictorials and 16mm films that Page was featured in were deemed pornographic at the time, leading to an investigation by a Senate Committee into the negative effects such photos were having on the youth of the day. Yet despite all the controversy surrounding her, Page s popularity never once waned (she was even one of Playboy magazine s earliest centerfolds). In addition to the fine work of its lead actress, writer/director Mary Herron s bold decision to shoot The Notorious Bettie Page in black and white proved a stroke of genius, and gave the finished product the look and feel of a movie from the era in which its story is set (even the brief splashes of color, including all of the movie s Florida sequences, look as if they were shot in 50s era Technicolor). With its fine supporting cast (especially Jared Harris as the slightly odd John Willie, a business associate of the Klaws ), exceptional sets and costumes, and the often seamless manner in which stock footage from the time period was incorporated into the movie, The Notorious Bettie Page is, without a doubt, an impressive biopic. The laptop did contain password protection software; however, it may not have been enough to permit access if the thief had advanced knowledge in computers. Additionally, the information stored on the laptop did not include social security or health insurance information, but instead held patient names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, telephone numbers, e mail addresses, and treatment and doctor visits (Moscaritolo, 2010, p. 1). It is unknown how many records were contained on the laptop, but all records were related to prostate services that were provided during an eleven year span. Reaction to Incident Once it was revealed that the laptop was missing, Meredith Phillips, the chief privacy officer for the hospital, notified all involved patients by letter and offered each of them a free one year credit monitoring service (Henry Ford Health System, 2010). The hospital also established a telephone help line that addressed patient concerns (toll free), as well as initiated an internal investigation to determine if appropriate security measures were followed. Furthermore, all employees were re trained in security procedures and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Intercultural Competency Paper Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires through birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth process may start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is supposed to follow, true intercultural competenceevolves when behaviors are internalized and occur naturally because they feel right (Medina LГіpez Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and difficulties are sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural deepening (Stephenson, 2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed in a new cultural environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and physical health issues (Li et al., 2013). The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to identify any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what dimensions of intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012; Godwin Jones, 2013). • 47. The Case Of Cooper V Hobart Precedents have played a significant role construction and transformation public policy over time. The concern that judges face is whether establishing a new duty of care will influence public policy. This is the issue that results from in the Cooper v. Hobart case. The judge constructed a final decision that Hobart did not owe a duty of care to Cooper due to explanations that are delineated in public policy. This essay will discuss in favour of the judge s decision for the reason that establishing a new duty of care would have conflicted with existing public policy. Initially, I will be providing a concise summary about the case of Cooper v Hobart. This involves the facts, issues and ratio. Then, I will elucidate what the Anns test is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the first stage of the Anns test, two questions arise: The first question is whether the circumstances disclose reasonably foreseeable harm and proximity sufficient to establish prima facie duty of care. The first inquiry at this stage is whether the case falls within or is analogous to a category of cases in which a duty of care has previously been recognized. The next question is whether this is situation in which a new duty of care should be recognized. At the second stage of the Anns test, the question still remains whether there are residual policy consideration outside the relationship of the parties that may negative the imposition of a duty of care. It is useful to expressly ask, before imposing a new duty of care, whether despite foreseeability and proximity of relationship, there are other policy reasons why the duty should not be imposed. This part of test only arises in cases where the duty of care asserted does not fall within a recognized category. The trial judge concluded that the pleadings disclosed a cause of action in negligence and that the plaintiffs should be permitted to bring a class action . The Anns test is test for determining the existence of a duty of care in the tort of negligence. The importance of the Anns lies in its recognition that policy consideration play an important role in determining proximity in new situations. This was a test that ... • 48. Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice in The Republic An Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice Introduction This paper will consider Socrates definition of justice in the individual by showing what, according to this definition, makes people and action just and whether Socrates definition of justice is plausible. It appears that Socrates definition of justice is plausible but demanding. However, because the transcendentals that Socrates seeks are like the light at the top of the mountain up which the philosopher climbs after leaving the cave, it must be realized that the journey toward justice is one of labor but not one that is implausible. Context Plato founded the Academy at Athens after Socrates death and preserved the lessons that Socrates had taught, essentially laying a foundation for the study of philosophy in Western Civilization. Plato s Republic seeks to unite the lessons of the Academy with the circle of politics that occupied much of Plato s life: The Republic, in fact, teaches that unless philosophy and politics unite completely, the evils of the state will never cease. This unity, indeed, is what is at the core of Socrates (and therefore Plato s) definition of justice. As B. M. Laing states, The Republic argues that justice is the principle which co ordinates different arts (Laing, The Problem of Justice in Plato s Republic, p. 412). The definition of justice that Socrates attempts to explore throughout The Republic is one that considers the individual in relation to the city or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of illegal boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403 people in closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these high detention rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that there were 4,313 reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these immigration detention facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and the 20th of June 2013 6 of these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These statistics are incredibly alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not only mental illness but also the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of this report is to analyse and scrutinize the reason why mental healthissues for asylum seekers are becoming an issue in Australia, and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing issue in Australia. An asylum seeker is a person who has fled their own country and applied for protection as a refugee . As an asylum seeker their experience is extremely different to that of a Migrant. A Migrant chooses to leave their home country, and can choose where to go and when they might return to their home country, whereas, an asylum seeker or refugee are forced to flee their country for their own safety, ... • 50. Romanov Dynasty Essay The Romanov Dynasty held the Russian Empire as one of the most powerful European states for over three centuries. In 1917, during Nicholas II s opposed reign, a revolution began that transformed the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and introducing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The First World War acted as a catalyst for change and exacerbated any existing grievances to the point at which they overpowered all loyalty to the Tsar and destroyed the monarchy. The war brought many of Russias underlying social, political, economic, and military problems into sharp focus which were destructive forces leading to the downfall of the Russian dynasty. On a military scale Russia was no match... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diversion of resources to the war effort caused severe problems for the civilian population of Russia. The loss of agricultural workers and horses to the army, alongside the takeover of railway lines by the army lead to drastic shortages of food in towns and cities due to poor internal communications. Due to the limited resources it was difficult for those peasants who hadn t joined the army to sustain agricultural output. The lack of workers and resources in the rural areas put a strain on the already backwards Russian agricultural system. For example Moscow, in 1914, had received 2200 railway wagons of grain per month, but by Christmas of 1916 this was limited to only 300 wagons. Inadequate transport saw the already limited city food supplies left rotting at rural railway stations. Due to the limited supply of food, rationing was taking place, under which each person was entitled to a mere 50g of bread per day. The main priority was to supply the soldiers with food and this took precedence over food supply of the cities. The lack of food triggered agitation in the society, and caused the people to take part in strikes and demonstrations in Petrograd, which led to the abdication of the Tsar. Living standards were on the decline. The rapid industrial growth during war caused problems as it enlarged the working class and drew labourers from the countryside, putting strain on antiquated urban infrastructure and overstretching ... • 51. Alternative Future Energy Storage And Conversion Systems Metal air batteries have been intensively explored as an alternative future energy storage and conversion systems owing to their intrinsically high energy and power densities, the relatively mature research on air electrode, and cost effective composition of non noble fuel electrode, as well as in response to the high energy demand for portable devices and electric vehicles even stationary power plants [1 5]. Of late, research into the metal air techniques has been focused on Zn air (~1,000 Wh kg 1), Li air (~13,000 Wh kg 1), and Ge air (~1,500 Wh kg 1) batteries because of its very high specific energy and energy density with open cell air cathode structure [3 6]. With these devices, however, the electrochemical energy could be stored in the stationary part as form of sacrificial metal anode. This distinct architecture would make a limitation approach for large scale commercialization unless the anode can provide good electrochemical reversibility and high cyclic durability. As a feasible alternative to continuous operation, recently, a high temperature liquid metal air energy storage cell (LMAESC) in conjunction with a solid oxide electrolyte has been investigated applying post transition metals such as In [7], Sn [7 17], Sb [18 25], Pb [7], and Bi [12] as a sacrificial electrode, so called liquid metal anode (LMA). Since these liquid metals has relatively low melting point, it can improve the anode polarization by incorporating liquid wetting materials to spread on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
