Dutch, 25% German, 15% Polish and a 10% mixture of others I can t remember. Does this sound
familiar at all? These types of phrases were one of the first things to befuddle my perception of
my new found West Michigan friends when our family first moved up to Grand Rapids from a
small town in Texas in 2008. It perpetually amazed me as to how so many people had so many
different percents and a few even impressed me more so by knowing them to decimal place. Many
shared their heritage with a swelling pride, and I soon came to learn that this source of pride
actually came from West Michigan s history built upon immigrants which can be traced back all the
way to the 18th century. From the huge mass of Dutch immigrants that brought us tulips to the
Germans that brought us one of our favorite foods, hot dogs, immigration has had a significant

into three different stages, firstly; morality demands us to aim for the highest good, secondly; we
cannot attain this unless there is a God to assist us, and lastly; God must exist to ensure that we
achieve that which we are duty bound to do. If you were to share Kant s assumptions, it would
become necessary to assume that there is a God.

confusion.
When writing my questionnaire, I was careful not to include any questions that may cause offence
to my interviewees. The subject, Finding out the publics attitudes to gay adoption could raise some
problems. For example it was difficult to ask peoples sexuality because to many people that is a
very sensitive and private issue. I also accepted that asking peoples religion was too much of a

In 10th grade I had completely given up on myself, I stopped trying in school and would do
anything not to go. I rarely wanted to go out with my friends. I never felt happy or that I had any
sort of purpose in life. I felt like no matter how hard I tried I would never make a mark on this
world. I guess it was because I didn t really have any direction in my life. With all of my peers
having their future lined up for themselves I felt like I was all alone not knowing what my future
was going to look like. Once 10th grade ended I decided to get a job. I became a cashier at a fast
food restaurant called Gimme A Burger. Although this was a pretty average job, it gave me a sense

the UN argued that UNICEF was a temporary group to help children after war and not that it s
over the work should be delegated to other permanent UN organizations. (Explained in more
detail) Pakistan s delegate to the UN, Ahmed Shah Bokhari, argued against Roosevelt in saying
that the images of European children after the war are the realities of children living in other
regions every day. In 1950, it was agreed that UNICEF s charter would be renewed for another 3
years, and then in 1953, Roosevelt argued to make the organization permanent. It then decided to
drop the words international and emergency from its name, so its title then became the United
NationsChildren s Fund yet keeping its full acronym as UNICEF.
In the 1950s, UNICEF spiraled into a set of mass campaigns of epidemic diseases such as
tuberculosis, yaws, trachoma, leprosy and malaria; this decade was knows as the Era of Mass
Disease Campaign . UNICEF worked to complement and help the World Health Organization,
WHO. They worked with each disease independently depending on the incredibly high amount of
cases of each illness in each region. With the help of immense advancements with technology and
medicine within the last century, UNICEF was able to effectively treat thousands even millions of
cases within each region. They re campaigns were successful in decreasing the rates of infection
and malnutrition
