The document discusses social class in America. It states that social class can be defined as groups of people who relate to each other based on financial means, social status, and culture. Social class is usually classified into three groups: lower class, middle class, and upper class. The document then provides an example of a person who grew up in the middle class based on how their parents raised them and their family's financial status.
This film review summarizes the documentary "People Like Us: Social Class in America". The film explores how social class is determined in the US by factors like ancestry, education, and wealth. It specifically focuses on how ancestry strongly influences one's social class. This is illustrated through interviewing members of the upper-upper class WASPs and telling the story of Tammy. The film shows how the social class one is born into via their family can greatly impact the life they lead. It depicts how WASPs see themselves as upholding a reputation to be better, nicer, and more cultured people due to the advantages and knowledge gained from their high social status.
Minds on fire open education, tail, and learning 2guevarra_2000
This document discusses how social learning and open education resources enabled by the Internet can help address the growing global demand for higher education. It notes that traditional universities will not be able to meet this demand alone. The growth of the Internet has allowed for new models of open and social learning through open courseware, online communities, and peer-to-peer learning. Social learning focuses on interactions around content rather than just content transmission, and involves learning practices of a field through participation. Examples like open source software development show how people can learn through social participation at the periphery of expert communities.
understanding culture, society and politics Teachers GuideChelie Trangia
The document outlines a lesson plan for a senior high school core subject on understanding culture, society, and politics. The lesson aims to explain the two main functions of education in society: 1) to form a productive citizenry through enabling individuals to earn higher incomes, and 2) to allow for self-actualization through cultivating ethical reasoning and preventing an overemphasis on conformity. Students will discuss theories of human motivation, viewpoints on the value of education in the Philippines, and risks of homogenization. They will conclude the lesson by writing a reflective essay analyzing the balancing of education's two functions.

1. Explain with the use of a diagram what physical mechanism gives rise to the surface tension in a
liquid. Explain also which of the following two liquids has a higher surface tension and why: water
and hexane. Describe with the use of diagrams two proceedures to measure the surface tension of a
liquid together with the physical principles and equations involved. The surface tension at the
mercury/water interface has the high value of 415 mN m-1 compared to that of the water/air
interface of 73 mN m-1. What is the physical reason in molecular terms for the high value of the
mercury/water interfacial (surface) tension? One way to decrease this surface tension is to apply an
electrical potential to the mercury. Why does charging of the mercury surface cause its surface
tension in water to decrease? Can you explain another way to decrease the surface tension at the
mercury/water interface.
2. Derive expressions of (a) the work of adhesion (Dupre equation) between two immiscible
liquids and (b) the work of cohesion for a single liquid in terms of the surface tensions of the
respective liquids. What is the expression for the free energy (G) of the spreading of an insoluble
liquid on water expressed in terms of the surface tension values of the respective interfaces.
Define the Spreading Coefficient for the spreading of one imiscible liquid on another. What is the
condition for spreading of the Spreading Coefficient value? Express the Spreading Coefficient in
terms of the work of adhesion and the work of cohesion for two immiscible liquids.

of liposomes? Describe one method for preparing unilamellar liposomes. Finally detail the forces
which hold the liposome together in its organised structure.

This chapter was very interesting. As educators, we encounter the relationship between social class and it's impact on education each day.
1. Social Mobility: Many argue that climing the social ladder is difficult. We are born into a specific social class. Marriage impacts social class - as does education.
2. The relationship between classes is highly intertwined. In order to move up, one must take on at least some characteristics of that upper class. Education is one of the most important aspects. Membership in a specific class is not 'fixed'. Society's structure and movement provides opportunities to move up...or down.

Sheldon Berman, The Achievement Gap VS the Empowerment GapSheldon Berman
The document discusses reframing the achievement gap as an empowerment gap. It describes how generational poverty and racism can leave students feeling powerless and unable to effect change. The author details Jefferson County Public Schools' approach which focuses on developing student empowerment through building classroom community, engaging inquiry-based curricula, and service-learning opportunities connecting classroom lessons to helping the community. These approaches aim to help students see they can take control of their lives and make contributions to overcome challenges like poverty and racism.
This document is a response to a comprehensive exam question about adolescent education and high school curriculum. It discusses the normative and empirical elements of adolescent education in the United States regarding outcomes of self-efficacy, civic participation, and dissent. The response draws on scholars like Durkheim, Dewey, Brighouse, and others to argue that while schools aim to socialize students, they also limit authenticity and diversity of thought. It asserts that explicitly teaching about dissent could increase students' self-efficacy and willingness to question dominant views, thereby better preparing them for civic participation and economic productivity as adults.

This document provides guidance on writing a strong thesis statement. It explains that to write a good thesis statement, one must first understand the purpose and requirements of the assigned writing task. The thesis statement should then reflect the critical thinking skills being assessed, such as analysis, comparison, evaluation or argumentation. A tentative thesis can help focus research and evidence collection, and may be revised as the writing process continues. Generating a thesis is described as a recursive process of refining the statement to align with the evidence found. Questions are provided to help strengthen the thesis through this iterative process.

Reverend Hale came to Salem hoping to prove himself as a witch expert, but began to doubt as he questioned innocent people like John and Elizabeth Proctor who showed no signs of witchcraft. When questioning locals, they also insisted that the accused were good people. Hale started to realize that innocent people had been hanged with no solid evidence beyond accusations. The narrator's sister discovered the tooth fairy was not real when she woke up and saw their father trading a tooth for money in an attempt to keep up the ruse, sealing her disillusionment.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.
1. Power And Class
As William Gaddis defines power; "Power doesn't corrupt people, people corrupt power." We
have been living in a society where we turn to the notion of power, and class. Some conceal
power, but some tend to avoid power. Those who employ power know how to utilize it, either,
correctly or unjustly. Power is a dominant force that can define a new meaning to how class
structure works. As Weber explains class; "Class and status groups are considered to be associated
with power, to achieve one's will, even in the face of opposition from others." To our
understanding, class is what distinguishes us from, rank, level, possessions, income, society, and
mostly power. Power & class is what separates most of us, from low standard to an elite level. Our

2. Essay about The Future Classroom
When we look at our society today, there is no doubt that our education system is undergoing another
revolution. Technology has advanced to the point where it has made information widely accessible,
and its convenience has established new means of independent learning. Students are able to learn
from a seamlessly infinite resource, and now schools face a competitor in the distribution of
knowledge. Now as schools attempt to integrate technology into the school environment, there are
challenges in defining the next generation of classrooms. Through our Alternate Worlds class, we
have attempted to integrate technology into the class with both success and disappointment.
However, though technology provides a great resource for education,...show more content...
Like a future classroom our class embraces technology as a tool for education. Through websites,
blogs, and streaming online media, our class takes all forms except the traditional lecture style.
Another way in which this class is an example of a future classroom is in the way we communicate.
Through forums, chat boxes and emails, our class communicates through instant mediums instead of
face–to–face contact. One final way in which this class is a model for future classrooms is in the
responsibility that students have for their own education. Students in our class make their own
schedule to keep up in class and are bounded by a loose schedule. Students are given flexibility in
where and when they want to work, which is different from traditional classrooms that meet on strict
schedules.
Though our online class exemplifies many characteristics of a future classroom, our class stays
traditional in several ways. One similarity between our classroom and a traditional classroom is
that students still hold the responsibility for submitting in work to be graded. Students still need to
be assessed on whether or not they are keeping on task with readings, and so assignments and
projects are still used like in traditional education settings. Our class is also similar to traditional
classes in which there is a professor who takes part in ensuring that we stay actively on schedule

3. Essay about Social Class
SOCIAL CLASS
Social class refers to the system of stratification of the different groups of people in a society.
These different forms of classification are, in most instances, based on gender ethnicity and age.
Social class makes everyone's lives extremely different. For example: How long one can expect to
live. In a wide range of ways, from success, to one's health class, social class influences people's
lives (Grusky,2003).
Among the life chances affected as result of social class involve factors such as: How long people
live (life expectancy), how healthy people are, how much and what they eat, the kind of housing
they live in, the level of education they reach and the qualifications they achieve, how likely they are
to be unemployed...show more content...
The upper middle class consists of managers and professionals, while the lower middle class is
made up of clerks, office workers, telephone sales and shop workers. These jobs are usually not
very well paying and do not require very high qualifications. The petty bourgeoisie on the other hand
are small business owners. This group may consist of people who may own a workshop or shop and
may be employing a small number of people.
The Working Class
This class, like the middle class, consists of sub–groups of people. These include the skilled, the
semi–skilled and unskilled workers. Social mobility has, however, affected the number of people
in this class. Many people born in this class have been able to rise to the middle class, and as a
result, there exists a case of embourgeoisement.
According to the Marxist view, this is the class of people who are detrimental to the fate of the
entire class system. He stated that these people were supposed to unite and overthrow capitalism.
However, this is not what has occurred.
The Underclass
This is the lowest class in the social class stratification. While the majority of the working class now
live reasonably healthy and prosperous lives, a low minority do not. These people cannot work.
They include the long–term unemployed and the disabled and chronically ill. They are in effect, shut
out of much of what most people can attain. This group of

4. Classism: The Concept Essay
At first glance it might appear that a study of first generation students would naturally reflect a racial
relationship and race would be the "ism" that is most influential on first generation students'
university attrition. This is especially true when the focus of the study is turned toward historically
black colleges and universities. Additionally, a case could be built for the racial "ism" aspect of the
study by focusing on the history of HBCU and the large concentration of first generation African
Americans that attend predominately Black schools. However, in developing the idea for the
proposed research, the "ism" which has the most meaning and connectivity to the topic is classism.
Historically, classist behavior has been present...show more content...
Classism is the systematic oppression of subordinated class groups to advantage and strengthen the
dominant class groups. It's the systematic assignment of characteristics of worth and ability based on
social class. ....Classism is held in place by a system of beliefs and cultural attitudes that ranks people
according to economic status, family lineage, job status, level of education, and other divisions.
Middle–class and owning– or ruling–class people (dominant group members) are seen as smarter and
more articulate than working–class and poor people (subordinated groups)...(What is Classism, p. 1).
As research is begun which has classism as a foundation, William Ming Lui's (2006), well
recognized class and classism researcher, precautions must be taken into consideration. In a
stringent article critique of Laura Smith's "Psychotherapy, classism, and the poor: Conspicuous by
their absence," Liu points out that the study of classism and those areas that it impacts is much
more complex than most researchers realize or expect. He calls for the need for a theory based and
operationlized use of terms such as social class, class, social status, the poor/low–income, and
poverty rather than use of these concepts simply as constructs. He also caution against the tendency
to category low–income subjects by a dispositional attribute (i.e., "poor people"). In conceptualizing
classism, he stresses that

5. Essay on Virtual Classrooms
Virtual Classrooms
"It's student driven. They set the pace. It's like a high school class except it's computerized . . .
lecture, quizzes, mid–terms and tests are all on the computer" (Charmoli). In this quote, Lance
Jewett it describing some of the benefits of a virtual classroom. He is a teacher for an alternative
school of online classrooms in Manton, Michigan. Many people have differing opinions of Virtual
Classrooms, but as Jewett points out, virtual classrooms are "student driven" meaning the student
has almost complete control over the pace and atmosphere he or she wishes to learn. With this, it is
necessary to look more in depth at virtual classrooms for one to gain a better understanding such as;
what are...show more content...
Many times class rosters are accessible on the online classrooms platform. This allows students to
access to their fellow classmates as well as a way to contact each other. This also provides contact
information for the instructor of the course. Another feature is access to announcements provided
by the instructor. This gives the instructor a quick and easy way to let students know of any
changes or important events. There is also a section for course information, course documents,
and assignments which will provide the students with any important details of the class or
assignments that may be required. Probably one of the most important features of an online
classroom is its form of communication. Most platforms will use a whiteboard or discussion
board in order to hold class discussions and provide a form of input from both students and
teachers. Tools for the students use are also very important. Digital drop boxes make it possible for
students to forward assignments to the instructor without the use of email and attachments.
Calendars allow students to record important dates and keep track of what is planned for each
online lesson. A student information section is also readily available to provide a profile on
students as a way of recording personal information. Some platforms will also provide small
amounts of web space to host a homepage for students and
