2. Compare And Contrast The Architecture Of Ancient
Greece...
Written Assignment Unit 2
The times when the ancient civilisations of Greece and Rome flourished are filled
with revolutionary advances in society but most notably in their respective cultures.
While a significant amount of time separated the two periods, Rome used many of
ancient Grecian works as a foundation for their own way of life with some tweaking
here and there. In that respect, the two periods greatly influenced and helped to shape
Western culture. This is especially true when it comes to the arts, particularly in
architecture which can be seen in two significant structure from each period: ancient
Greece s Parthenon and Rome s Pantheon.
In 447 B.C., the construction of the Parthenon began in the Acropolis at Athens,
Greece. The primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of Roman culture was derived from the Greek with some slight differences
such as their respective gods and goddesses. The Romans had also retained many
of the architectural styles that the Greeks practiced and used them in building
their own structures such as the famed Pantheon. Unlike the Greek whose purpose
for their temples were to honour their city s patron god, the purpose of the
Pantheon is not exactly known aside from the fact that it is a temple. People
believe that it was built as a place for the emperor to make appearances that the
public could be witness to in order to remind the civilians of their emperor s power
and god like status (Cartwright, 2013). This theory is consistent with the ideas that
we have learned through Roman portraiture styles of their rulers that emulated
styles seen in previous portraits in order to legitimize their authority or align
themselves with revered predecessors (Trentinella, 2003). Also, it is believed that
the Pantheon is dedicated to all the planetary gods instead of just one which was
how the Greeks preferred. The Pantheon can be split into two parts, the main
building is circular and is made of brick and concrete and is more in the style of the
Romans compared to the second part which contains the porch and entrance. The
porch is very reminiscent of the Classical Greek era and even features
3. Theme Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
Love is the one of the most powerful feelings one can experience. The other feeling
is fear. When a situation combines the both of them, which will prevail? The passage
chosen comes from Dai Sijie s Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress where the
Narrator experiences this struggle after being attacked and returning to an empty
home. Only a fantasy about the Little Seamstress could remedy the gloom which
hangs over him. The passageillustrates that the Narrator has a deep longing for the
Little Seamstress but his respectful attitude towards her due to an underlying fear;
which reveals his utter obedience.
The assault on the Narrator took a heavy toll on his mind, sending him into
depression. The Narrator ends up in an all time low and in a state of emptiness.
The Narrator describes his house as lonely and bleak with the rancid smell of
desolation in the air. The gloomy diction reveals the feeling of isolation engulfing
the Narrator as an expansive nothingness is felt inside of his small house. In an
attempt to cure himself, the Narrator attempted to read his favourite novel but it was
impossible to concentrate on. This selection of detail explains that nothing real, even
if he deeply cared about it, would remedy the displeasure he was feeling. The
oppressive smell of desolation would not resolve as a result the Narrator was flooded
with rage once again. This ominous and powerful diction depicts the overwhelming
nature of the events surrounding the Narrator
4. Why Is The Pax Romana Still Important Today
A Time of Serenity: The Augustan Peace The age of the Pax Romana is a substantial
element in Roman history that will never be forgotten, being that it has affected
many generations for over 200 years and is still important today. The Pax Romana is
defined as the period in which the Roman Empire was enclosed with relative
peacefulness and cultural achievement. A critical factor of the Pax Romana is
acknowledging the man that started it all: AugustusCaesar.
Several of the reforms that Emperor Augustus Caesar implemented were successful in
fundamentally changing the political, economic, and social issues that Rome faced.
Most importantly, there were qualities and virtues that maintained the peace and
stability of Rome, three of them being growth, harmony, and happiness. These
principles are very simple, but without them, the society of Rome would certainly be
much different as well as our society on Earth today. In the same way that the
Romans grew to find their state of harmony and happiness, the people of our society
attempt to recreate that world. A critical value of the Pax Romana is the idea of
growth. This is such a simple concept, but it applies to the great advancements that
both the Roman society and the society today experienced. Throughout the 200 years

A Character Analysis of Pearl in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Word Count Includes Outline at the End of the Paper
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a book of much symbolism. One of the
most complex and misunderstood symbols in the book is Pearl, the illegitimate
daughter of Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. Throughout the novel
Pearl develops into a dynamic symbol; one that is always changing. In the following
essay, I will explore Hawthorne s symbolism of Pearl from birth, age three, and age
seven. Also, I will attempt to disprove the notion that Pearl is branded with a
metaphorical scarlet letter A representing amorality; instead she represents the
immorality of her mother s adultery.

From that epoch, except when the child was asleep, Hester had never felt a moment
s safety; not a moment s calm enjoyment of her (Hawthorne 67). Hester realized that
she could not enjoy the normal maternal relationship with her daughter because of
the embarrassing symbol on her chest. Hawthorne states, Weeks, it is true, would
sometimes elapse, during which Pearl s gaze might never once be fixed upon the
scarlet letter; but then, again, it would come at unawares, like the stroke of sudden
death, and always with that peculiar smile, and odd expression of the eyes (67).
Hester recognized that Pearl s odd expression was her own recognition of the
immoral meaning of the scarlet letter and Pearl herself.
At age three, Pearl still possessed the same childish fascination with her mother s
decorative symbol of shame. Hawthorne told of one certain incident were ... she
amused herself with gathering handfuls of wild flowers, and flinging them, one by
one, at her mother s bosom; dancing up and down, like a little elf, whenever she hit
the scarlet letter. (67). Pearl, through the use of the letter, toyed with her mother s
emotions as if it were a game placed there for her own personal amusement. Hester
still bore witness to little Pearl s wild eyes ; the same expression that she had seen
before in her eyes as a baby (Hawthorne 67). Hester could tell that with every day that
passed her little girl was becoming more

9. The Chair Of Reniseneb
On display in The Metropolitan Museum is the Chair of Reniseneb, which was
constructed in 1450 B.C. in Egypt during the New Kingdom period. The Chair of
Reniseneb is a wooden chair veneered with ebony, a heavy dark brown timber, and
ivory, a hard creamy white substance. The chair is made up of small pieces of wood
that is pieced together almost like a puzzle. Egyptian trees did not grow big or
thick, therefore big panels of wood needed to be imported which was very
expensive. Thus the Egyptian carpenters became really adapt in inlaid work made
from small pieces of variously colored wood or other materials. In Ancient Eygypt,
the higher ranked an individual was, the taller was the chair or furniture he sat on.
The Chair of Reniseneb belonged to the scribe Renyseneb, therefor the chair sits
higher on beaded blocks. The legs of the furniture were often carved in the form of
animal legs or the hind parts of some animal such as the lion. Therefore, the foot of
the Chair of Reniseneb is shaped as an animal paw and the legs of the chair are
shaped similar to an animals leg. Both the legs and the feet are veneered with
ebony, a heavy dark brown color. The Egyptians enjoyed having cushions which
were often were stuffed with dried leaves or goose down, creating a plush seat.
Therefore, the seat of the chair was restored to have a woven seat... Show more

a way around it to instead piecing together small pieces of wood. It goes to show

papyrus. The Egyptians were great artists of their time and their furniture remains as
one of the few things that is left and that can be appreciated and

Dutch, never knew that he would grow up to be famous. He served two terms as
governor of California, but before that he starred in Hollywood films. Originally a
liberal Democrat, Reagan ran for the U.S. presidency as a conservative Republican

This novel explains the importance of Reagan s foreign policy and how the
American exceptionalism displayed by Reagan and his policies allowed for peace.
The Cold Warhad raged since the end of World War II and remained an existential
threat to the United States. Reagan reversed the policy of compromise and stood
firm against the Soviet Union. He was persistent in strengthening American foreign
policy by pushing his Strategic Defense Initiative and giving aid to rebels battling
Soviet backed Marxists to many different countries from Nicaragua to Angola. The
Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), also known as the Star Wars idea, presented to
the American public and to the world on March 23, 1983, as an attempt to create a
set of weapons that would solve the problem of national insecurity. His opponents
thought this idea to be technologically unfeasible and derided Reagan s Strategic
Defense Initiative, but the mere threat of the U.S. building the system was
instrumental in the Soviet Union s collapse. Reagan s exceptionalism, being
different and the first to think of the idea and having the resources to pull it off,
took hold. In the Hans Henrik Holm Journal of Peace research, it states how this SDI
was different from any other proposal for new weapons.

Section A Video
The large scale painting of Caravaggio s work of Death of the Virgin shows a light
relgouis style. An example is a halo can be barely be seen on top of the Virgin
Mary s head. The Virgin Mary portrayed in the painting seems to have a
contemporary Roman feel to her. Her is undone and her clothes as well. Her feet
are also bare , some say she looked a prostitute who had been dragged out. Some
monks even rejected the panting due to how she looks. Caravaggio s interest in the
everyday and the common life probably influenced this style. His mixture of the
spiritual and physical world is seen perfectly in this panting. This panting embraces
real life emotions.

his arts. One artists named Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio felt that artistic
originality must be a scared thing. He even went too far lengths to threaten both the
artists Guido Reni and biographer Giovannia Baglion for copying his artistic style.
Ironically Caravaggio had become the most copied artists in the entire history of
Western art. In 1610 Caravaggio had died not knowing how his masterpieces styles
had left their mark on the world. A lot of Italian and non Italian artists who called
themselves followers of Caravaggio wanted to keep his legacy alive. Even though
they thought of themselves as followers they never had a Renaissance master follower

Causes of Birth Defects
Every day a baby is born with a birth defect, and these defects range from minor
abnormalities that need no treatment, to severe defects that may need surgery, need
medication, or even cause disabilities. Caused by environmental influences or
inheritance, a birth defect is a biochemical or physical abnormality present at birth.
Around 4,000 birth defects have been discovered throughout the years and each year
1 out of 33 babies are born with a defect ( Gupta ). What mothers do while pregnant
can be a major factor that causes a birth defect. The most common causes of birth
defects include smoking, alcohol use, and recreational drug use while pregnant.
Smoking during pregnancy is one of the most common causes of birth defects in
babies. If a mother is smoking during her pregnancy the fetus is also experiencing the
effects smoking can cause. On average twenty percent of women smoke during their
pregnancies causing 1,000 baby deaths each year in the United States ( Smoking
During Pregnancy ). Smoking during pregnancy accounts for thirty percent of babies
born underweight, fourteen percent of premature labors, and ten percent of all infant
deaths ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). The placenta connects from the uterus to the
developing fetus, giving the baby the nutrients and oxygen it needs to grow. When a
mother inhales the poisonous gases from the cigarette, they travel into the mother s
blood stream and through the placenta into the fetus. While this

Is Harm Reduction a Desirable National Drug Control Policy Goal?
There are many differing viewpoints in the United States when dealing with drug
policy. Within the political arena, drug policy is a platform that many politicians base
their entire campaigns upon, thus showing its importance to our society in general.
Some of these modes within which drug policy is studied are in terms of harm
reduction, and supply reduction. When studying the harmful effects of drugs, we
must first to attempt to determine if drug abuse harms on an individual level of if it
is a major cause of many societal problems that we face today. In drawing a
preliminary conclusion to this question we are then able to outline the avenues of
approach in dealing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that are opposed to harm reduction feel that its advocates are hypocrites that
call for tougher policies in dealing with alcohol and tobacco yet in the same breath
call for reductions in the penalties for illegal drug use. Opponents also believe that
initiating a harm reduction policy may in fact increase the use of illegal drugs as
well as the people that are seeking drug treatment. Robert J. MacCoun, is an
associate professor in the Graduate School of Public policy at the University of
California and author of Toward a Psychology of Harm Reduction. Professor
MacCoun also supports the movement towards a harm reduction approach to drugs.
He explains how the harm reduction movement emerged in Amsterdam in the 1980
s in response to mounting heath issues directly related to the use of drugs.
Professor MacCoun illustrates that harm reduction is not a program that has been
proven effective in the war on drugs, being constantly rejected as a viable option to
present drug enforcement policy by the United States government. Professor
MacCoun illustrates however that the policies that the U.S. presently has in place
has failed in its ability to eliminate drug use thus causing the major harms of drug
use in place. Professor MacCoun believes that many of the drug related problems we
have today are a result of poor legislation as well as the

15. Framing Fundamentals
Framing Fundamentals: Shots and Basic Rules of Thumb
Video shots are all about composition. Instead of pointing the camera at your
subjects, what you need to do is to compose an image. Framing is that very process
of making forming composition.
Framing techniques are very subjective. What one client finds to be moving may
look pointless to someone else. What you need to look at are industry guidelines
which you can refer to as your rules of thumb.
The rules of video image framing are technically the same for those used in
photography.
Fundamental Shots
There is a video industry convention which gives names to the common kinds of
shots. The meanings of each could vary but their purposes are relative. Basic shots
are called according to what s applicable to subjects. For instance, close up shot has to

almost at the bottom. Called the safety room, this is that small amount of space atop
the head and beneath the feet. In this shot, the subject still does not take the whole
frame width.
The midshot shows a bit more details about the subject. This is more like an
estimate of how you would like to see a person in the flesh. Of course, you would not
pay attention to the lower portion of the body, just his face till about his stomach.
The medium close up is a shot that features the face more clearly.
Extreme close up shots are those that show extreme details of a subject. The ECU
should effectively convey emotion. The cutaway shot is that shot that gives you an
idea of what is happening outside of the present action. This is often a different
subject or, at times, a CU of a part of the subject.
Basic Framing Rules
Find vertical and horizontal lines on the frame such as poles or horizon. Ascertain
that these are at level unless you are trying to achieve the tilted

I say to you quite frankly that the time for racial discrimination is over, is what
Governor Jimmy Carter said during his Inaugural Address on January 12, 1971, but it
was not always true. In the texts, Superman and Me, by Sherman Alexie, and,
Learning to Read and Write, by Frederick Douglass there are clear problems of racial
discrimination between both authors. There are many other similarities and
differences throughout Frederick and Sherman s demanding upbringing, the most
prominent are the main character s obstacles, goals, and the claims that the author

To illustrate, they both have the innate urge to read and write. Another inference
that can be made is that they are both mainly fueled by racial discrimination to
read. Sherman uses it as an escape from the downcast life he lived, and Frederick
also reads to escape the pain, but he also reads as an act of defiance. In the text
Frederick says Mistress, in teaching me the alphabet, had given me the inch, and no
precaution could prevent me from taking the ell (Douglass). Essentially he is
saying that because his mistress had taken the first step he wasn t going to stop
just because she said. One point that can be made is their inspiration to follow
their goals. Alexie uses superman, I learned to read using a Superman comic...

helped them take different paths. The Columbian Orator depicted a slave that was
defying his master; as a result, Frederick curious about the prospect of freedom. The
Superman comics helped Sherman realize that no barrier can stop him. The two are
very alike and different in terms of their goals and accomplishing

include: Sincerely, Cordially, Best regards, and Yours very truly. Remember to
capitalize the first word in the complimentary closing and end it with a comma.
After the closing, there is a copy line. When the copy line is used, other people
know who will be receiving a copy. The copy line usually includes a symbol: c: for
copy, pc: for photocopy, and bc: blind copy (used only to limit readers of other
copies). The names of the recipients should follow these symbols listed in
organizational rank (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004, p. 1). All of the
components discussed above are effective ways to write an effective business letter.
An effective business letter speaks to a specific reader. Therefore, the right type of
business letter must reach the reader. The most common types of business letters are:
1) Acknowledgement Letters, 2) Adjustment Letters, 3) Complaint Letters, 4) Inquiry
Letters, 5) Order Letters, and Response Letters. (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004
p. 1). These type letters helps guide the reader to understanding what the writer
intended. Nothing can be more

How Effective/ Ineffective are Services
Effectiveness/Ineffectiveness
There will always be a question of effectiveness versus ineffectiveness of any
program. In the matter of child welfare that will always be a question. There is
increasing emphasis on the importance of child welfare outcomes, such safety,
permanency, and well being. The Child and Family Service Reviews showed that
children who have been victims of child maltreatment before are 96% more likely
to experience a recurrence that those who were not (US DHHS, 2008). The highest
risk period for recurrence was 30 to 60 days following the initial CPS referral, and
decreased over time. Recurrence was more common while a CPS was still opened.

These two chart files review studies of 148 cases discovered that SBC can be
implemented across cases differing in certain variables. Implementation was greatest
when teams of child welfare supervisors and workers were trained together. Results
showed that workers were more engaged in case planning and service acquisition for
families when Solution Based Casework was implemented. These workers were
more likely to contact referents directly and attend initial sessions with their
clients in order to develop collaborative service plans. Families were more
compliant with requirements backed by higher rates of completion of goals
assigned by caseworkers. These families achieved more goals than families the
Solution Based Casework was not use on. Another variable that impacted success
with the Solution Based Casework model was the history families had with child
welfare. According to Antle, et al. these families achieved more goals than those
who were not previously involved with the system. If families had prior cases that
were already worked, then they had made progress in parenting. This progress and
exiting the system could be viewed as a strength, and a period of time the family
exhibited no problems. The model requires case workers to indentify strengths and
remain involved with direct contact with

In the article Leaving Home for College , the authors state that the worrys and

college as a new start to them. They have more control on their daily life but they
have more responsibilities at the same time.According to the authors an anticipatory

feelings and emotions . It is quite challenging when we first go to college. The
college system is quite different from all the other education we previously have.
We have the right to choose our own schedule and we have more freedom
especially if you live outside. We can even choose to study in the major we are
interested in. This is the very first time that we can really control our life. However,
we also have to face many challenges. College students also have to deal with many
different issues. For example, they have to deal with the housing problem. In the
article The presentation of Self in Everyday Life, the author Erving Goffmantalks
about people tend to give others a good impression so they manage their behavior.
The author discusses how people try to manage the impression that others have on

23. An Irrigation Method For Agriculture
Water is primarily irrigated; irrigated water is needed for growing the crops this
planet survives and flourishes off of. There are various methods of irrigation, such as
surface irrigation, drip/macro irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, and subsurface irrigation.
Surface irrigation involves techniques where water is simply distributed over the soil
surface by gravity. It is also the most common form of irrigationthroughout the world.
Drip irrigation delivers water directly to the root of a plant. This is a very effective
method of irrigation because almost no water is lost through runoff or evaporation
(Burt,... Hardy, 2000). However, drip irrigation is rarely used by small scale
farmers, who face some of the worst water shortages, because of the high costs of
this particular irrigation system (Burt,... Eisenhauer, 1997). The selection of an
irrigation method for agriculture is dependent on the type of crop, climate of the
area, economics, water quality, energy availability, and multiple other factors
(Burt,... Hardy, 2000). The United States exports about one third of all water it
withdrawals in the form of crops and various other goods. Water s necessity for
survival has led to its mismanagement and thus overuse. Societies around the world
are finally beginning to realize that water is very limited and must be reserved. The
Colorado River used to flow 20 mil ac ft to the Gulf of California; currently, it only
flows around 7 mil ac ft and no water reaches the gulf
24. Comparing Ovid s Metamorphoses And The Bible
When we look at creation myths throughout history and across religions we can see
many similarities drawn but also many differences. Close ties can be seen between
Ovid s Metamorphoses and Genesis in the Bible as well differences between the latter
and the Aztec story of creation. These myths can be contrasted on their themes and
moral s demonstrated, the divine intervention that takes place, and type of creation
mythit is. When looking at the myths through those aspects we can see key
resemblances between the myths such as the evolution of the world and its people
and this shed s light onto the civilisation of origin.
In Ovid s Metamorphoses we a world created by the gods that is filled with plant
and animal life all of which is ruled by man. Four stages follow this creation each
darker and more savage than the last. The gods, outraged by the impiety, cover the
world with a massive flood. With only two surviving figures Deucalion and Pyrrha

strive to create a perfect world. Each god is superseded when their version of earth
fails by another who wipes it cleans and starts over. Again four ages pass and we now
live in the fifth age waiting for the earth to be again wiped clean.
All of the creation myths have a purpose and similar central themes and moral s that
set out to educate those who believe them. In Ovid s metamorphoses, Genesis and
briefly in the Aztec creation myth a similar theme is created and that is problem of
evil that man brings upon the

27. Persuasive Essay On Clean Drinking Water
Are you ever thirsty for a nice cold glass of clean water? Most privileged people
can find decent drinkable water in at least three places in the average kitchen. It s a
gift we commonly undermine. Unfortunately, many adults and young children aren
t granted this privilege. Striving each day to find clean water and still worry if it is
safe enough to drink. All around the world some of the deadliest bacteria, diseases,
and germs are alive in the water. Underprivileged countries do not have clean
running water or even a decent well to draw from; this results in drinking from
stagnate rivers, salty oceans, and contaminated puddles. Each year, thousands of
people die from the bacteria living in unclean water. Sorrowfully, many of those
numbers are young children! When a child becomes sick from bacteria found in their
drinking water, an entire daily system becomes thrown out of balance. They cannot
attend school or work, and it affects friends and family around them! Moreover,
economical issues arise. Humans around the world have their whole lives ahead of
them. Everyone should have daily access to clean drinking water to keep them
healthy and growing. In this fallen world that s not always the reality. The cycle that
contaminated water brings is almost unstoppable.
Being unhealthy and sick in an impoverished country is a terrible experience!
Unfortunately, every day more and more of the population becomes ill from
dangerous bacteria residing in unfresh water. Every sip of dirty
28. Sports, Basketball, And Football
Sports. Some love them, some hate them, but even those who hate cannot deny their
overwhelming popularity. America is home to many sports, basketball, and American
football among the most popular. Spectators filling in thousands of seats at open
stadiums, and hundreds of thousands more watching at home in front of their
television. Both basketballand footballhave distinct, fundamental differences,
however, they do not outweigh the similarities the two sports share.
A franchise without their fans is similar to a kingdom without their subjects, and
basketball and football share this common thread. Of course, without these adoring
fans to watch them, what would they be? Basketball and football are aggressive,
energetic sports and with that, aggressive and energetic fans. Fans who will paint
their faces, dye their hair and even pay thousands of dollars for ground seats or
memorabilia. These fans are very loud as well, as they cheer their teams on with
shouts of encouragement or booing the competition. Being a fan of these sports may
start as early as childhood, or since birth, and ignite a life long love for that team or
sport. Many children often find playing sports a great outlet or passion, and
basketball and football are no exceptions to this. There are youth programs for both
sports that a person can enroll their child in. As a child grows older they may be
tempted to try out for the middle school teams, and even older the high school varsity
or junior varsity
29. The Impact Of The Spanish Conquest Over The Mexica
Empire
The conquest over the Mexica Empire by Cortes and his conquistadors was a
remarkable feat. On the surface the victory of what began as 500 Spaniards against
the vast Mexica Empire appears to be an underdog tale of the ages. However, there
were a number of important factors that helped shift the odds in the favor of the
Spanish forces. The three most important of these factors were the technological
advantage that the Spaniards held over the Mexica, the massive devastation
caused by the diseases that the Spaniards brought to the New World and the
support of indigenous allies. In order to demonstrate the effects of these three
factors this essay will first give an overview of Mexica culture. Then it will
examine the specific technological advantages held by the Spanish and the effects
that these advantages had on the battlefield. After this it will examine the impact
that the spread of smallpox and other diseases had upon the Mexica s ability to
defend themselves. Finally this essay will demonstrate the size and impact of
indigenous allies on the Spanish conquest of the Mexica Empire. Through
examining these three factors this essay will attempt to illustrate how the Spanish
were able to face the far more numerous Mexica Empire and why the results were in
no way as surprising as the numbers would indicate. The Mexica People In order to
understand the context of the conquest of Mexico it is important to take a brief look
at the Mexica society that the Spanish would face.
30. Summary Of The Film V For Vendetta
In the film V for Vendetta directed by James McTeigue, the sequence I close read
was the killing of Sutler, Creedy, and V. This sequence was extremely intense and had
me sitting on the edge of my seat all throughout. Four techniques that were used in
this sequence by McTeigue that made this so consuming were camera angles, camera
shots, camera movement and sound effects.
Firstly, let us take a look at the technique, camera angles. McTeigue uses camera
angles to show us who has the power and more dominance out of the two
characters. When V says to Sutler, At last, we finally meet the camera is
positioned behind Sutler s silhouette on a low angle. Sutler is on his knees, trapped
by two of Creedy s men while V is standing up and has a lot of free space around
him. McTeigue using the low angle as the camera is focused on V speaking shows
us that V has the power and dominance over Sutler in this conversation. Another time
this technique is used is when Creedy is about to shoot Sutler. The camera is
positioned at a low angle, Creedy is looking down and pointing his gun down (to
Sutler who is not in this frame). Not only does Creedy have a gun pointing down
at Sutler that already gives Creedy a lot of power but, for McTeigue to use the low
angle as well makes the shot more intense and it just completely strips Sutler of any
power he had left.
Secondly, an important technique McTeigue also uses in this sequence is camera
shots. Obviously, there was a lot of camera shots used but, I picked out a few that I
thought were quite important in this sequence. The first was an extreme close up
(ECU) used by McTeigue when the camera was focusing on Sutler s eyes just
before Creedy was about to shoot him. The last time we see Sutler before this shot
is him chuckling to himself. So, when McTeigue uses an extreme close up to show
Sutler s eye widening in fear and realisation, it shows that Sutler had just realised
or taken into consideration that he was actually going to die. McTeigue also used
an extreme close up when V puts the Scarlet Carson in Sutler s pocket. V gives
these roses to his victims before they die. It is a symbol of freedom. So, V giving
this to Sutler and McTeigue using an extreme close up to show this

Dr. Huang is a Forensic Psychiatrist as well as a FBI special agent. This paper will
focus on the Forensic Psychiatrist/ Psychologist part of Dr. Huang s job. This
paper will talk about how Dr. Huang handles victims and co workers with each
criminal profiling and how it relates to real life. Wouldn t it be nice to have all
crimes solved in 43 minutes or less? It would also be comforting to know that all
criminal justice personal had the victims best interest in mind other than just
doing what they have to do to make a living for themselves. These among many
other factors are what make Law Order: SVU such a great show to watch. People
love seeing justice being served time and time again by the end of every episode.
They love the emotions that are portrayed and the drama of watching the histories
of characters, such as main character Olivia, unravel with every episode. The real
question is Is all of this pertinent to real life criminal justice? . A lot happens in those
43 minutes that would be impossible to happen that quickly in real life. This paper
will mainly focus on the roll of Dr. Huang, the Forensic Psychiatrist, Criminal
32. Compare And Contrast Rap And Opera
Rap and opera are two different styles of music that are aimed towards two
different demographics. Whether one is more popular than the other is dependent
on what it means for something to be popular. Stuart Hall (2005:66) says that
things are popular because masses of people listen to them, and rap is a good
example of this. Rap is currently more popular than opera because it is enjoyed by
the masses of the ordinary by which it is made to appeal to, whereas opera is seen to
be something for the higher class not the ordinary. This provides the definition for
popular cultureas being spread by the ordinary people of the world wherein popular
figures influence the culture.
In order to understand why rap is more popular than opera, one must first
understand whom the two genres appeal to. Rap is focused on the beat and lyrics,
generally appealing to the ordinary, young adult population. Opera is focused on
evoking emotion and telling a story, appealing to the older, educated elites. Because
of this, the matter of which is more popular is not rap ... Show more content on

Within the assigned reading, it was John Fiske, who said the concept of critical
discrimination has been applied exclusively to high culture in its constant effort to
establish its superiority over and difference from mass or popular culture, (John
Fiske 2005: 216). This supports the belief that opera is aimed towards those of a
higher class. Those who are well off financially and educated above the ordinary
know that opera is not popular amongst popular culture, but I suspect that they are
okay with this because it adds an element of exclusivity. I believe that the masses
of the ordinary are okay with this as well because they enjoy being a part of what is
popular now rather than being a part of what is considered unpopular, even though it
is also seen as elite and of a higher system to participate

Whenever the issue arises, it must be resolved personally by the buyer and seller,
Carousell usually will not involve directly in the matter. Since the sellers on
Carousell are primarily comprised of consumers, they do not possess any
standardised or professional policy to measure this issue, nor the Carousell did.
Hence, the way to handle the issue still varies with different sellers. In certain cases,
returning good is not acceptable by some of the sellers as most of the items sold on
Carousell are second handed good or used items with good and usable condition.
2.4 Additional Charges
The only additional charge that buyers need to pay is the postage fee of the item
they bought. Postage charge varies according to the nature and weight of the
items, and also which courier company delivers the items. For instance, the postage
rate of Pos Laju Malaysia for items below 1kg varies from RM 6 to RM 12.
However, it is not always necessary for the buyer to pay for the extra postage fee as
some of the sellers will include the postage fee into the selling price or the buyers
may choose to complete the transaction by COD.

34. How Did Jerome Cook s Arrival Of The Aboriginal
Aboriginals The Europeans originally thought that they had found a land that know
else had laid claim to but they were so wrong. Before the British landed in what s
now known as northern Sydney the aboriginals had been inhabiting those lands for
thousands of years before this time. The aboriginal were a race that produced for
themselves for the land and they were peaceful, they had established trade between
the tribes. Their resources were so abundant that they never had to move far from
their lands and this in turn made for peace between the clans.
Kinship with the land What the early colonists never understood, and perhaps what
many Australians are only now beginning to grasp, was that the Aboriginal lifestyle
was based on total kinship with the natural environment. Wisdom and skills obtained
over the millennia enabled them to use their environment to the maximum. For the
Aboriginal people, acts such as killing animals for food or building a shelter were
steeped in ritual and spirituality, and carried out in perfect balance with their
surroundings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

P2: Outline the structure of the main tissues of the body.
In this assignment I m going to talk about the structure of the main tissues which are
found within the body as well as what their role is in the terms of two named organs
of the body. Tissues are a collection of similar cells that group together to carry out a
specific function within the body. There are four different types of tissue found in the
human body which include; epithelial tissue; connective tissue; muscle tissue and
nerve tissue.
The first type of tissue found in the human body is epithelial tissue. These types of
tissue are found covering the whole surface of the body, lining of cavities, hollow
organs and tubes. The cells a very closely packed and are arranged in one ... Show

Transitional epithelium is also composed of several layers but is constructive of pear
shaped cells instead. This type of tissue is stretchy, meaning it can contract and
expand. It is usually found lining the urinary bladder as it allows for stretching as the
bladder fills up.
The second type of tissue found in the body is connective tissue. They lie beneath the
epithelial tissue helping to connect different part of the internal structure, the cells are
more widely separated from each other then in epithelial tissue. The intercellular
substance known as the matrix is found in considerably large amounts. Within the
matrix there are usually fibres which may be a jelly like consistency or dense and
rigid depending on the type, function and positioning of the tissue. Theses fibres form
a supporting system for cells to attach to. The major functions of connective tissue are
to transport materials, give structural support and protection. The types of connective
tissue that will be explained are blood, bone, cartilage, bone, areolar tissue and
adipose tissue.
Blood is made up of straw coloured plasma, the matrix, in which various types of
blood are carried. Plasma is mainly water where substances are carried such as
oxygen and carbon dioxide, nutrients such as glucose and amino acids, salts, enzymes
and hormones. Also there is a combination of important proteins which help with
blood clotting, transport,

DRAMA ESSAY

Australian theatre practitioners use various performance styles, techniques and
dramatic conventions to help portray their ideas to their audiences and make them
feel a particular way to the ideas presented in a play. Without the use of these styles,
techniques and conventions it wouldn t be possible for the practitioners to emphasise
their ideas. In the play Ruby Moon Matt Cameron the playwright uses various
techniques such as symbolism, transformational acting, cyclical and episodic
dramatic structure and a fractured fairytale. Ruby Moon was written by Matt

like the baby is still alive; it is possible that the packages sent of mannequin body

Through this play Matt Cameron uses transformational acting as a way to portray
the idea that it is possible for Ray and Sylvie to be playing a sick game with each

Matt Cameron uses this technique that could only be used in theatre to have its full

38. The Issue Of North Korea
The majority of the people who live in the United States and elsewhere around the
world, have no idea the extent of freedom we have in comparison to some. Living in
North America, where freedom runs through the veins of our constitution, it is hard
to imagine a world more restrictive than our own. Things that we take for granted,
such as access to the internet, are not available under the same circumstances in
North Koreaas they are here. North Korea is the number one most censored country
on the planet, and their strict limitations placed on Internet usage accounts for most
of that ranking, is commonly referred to as a media monopoly and a mosquito net,
because of the intense control over the information that goes in and out of the country.
The current leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, with the help of the former
leaders, have completely re programmed the Internet as we know it in order to
make it virtually impossible for their citizens to gain outside information. The
country is filled with propaganda, even in places where it s citizens least expect it.
For example, something as subtle as the font size of Kim Jong Un s name is
different. Anytime Kim Jong Un s name is mentioned online, the font of his name is
slightly bigger than all of the text around it. Similarly, instead of a computer screen
reading the year 2012 it reads the year 101 which represents the number of years
since the birth of Kim Jong Il Sung, the country s former leader. The government is

Production at the company was also unique. In 1972 Luciano introduced a time and
money saving production technique. By dyeing assembled garments made of
unbleached wool rather than batches of yarn before knitting, manufacturing time was
trimmed and Benetton could produce garments upon demand, which minimized the
need to maintain an extensive inventory.
To produce many sweaters at reduced cost and financial risk, Benetton took advantage
of an old Italian cottage industry. Benetton farmed out labor intensive production
knitting and sewing to small, family owned companies (many owned in whole, or
part, by Benetton management) throughout northeast Italy. Employing advanced
technology, these companies allowed Benetton to manufacture in response to
increased market demand both domestically and abroad with reduced financial risk.
About 80 percent of production was farmed out to 450 subcontractors who
employed about 20,000 workers in the Veneto region. The remaining 20 percent of
value added, capital intensive production quality control and cutting and dyeing was
performed in house. By 1983 Benetton payments for contract work equaled nearly
six times the labor expense for work performed in its factories, according to the
Harvard School of Business.
Benetton s early success is attributable as much to Luciano s genius, as to the Italian
and local business
41. Fruit Tree Diversity And Fruit Consumption
Chapter 4:
Fruit tree diversity and fruit consumption in the context of deforestation in Cameroon
1.INTRODUCTION
The world has been confronted with serious difficulties in curbing the rate of
undernourishment, especially in sub Sahara Africa (Vicenti et al., 2013; Arnold et
al., 2011; Goenster et al., 2011). In developing countries, the livelihood and food
security of smallholder land users are often at risk from unpredictable harvests,
land degradation and climate change (Paumgarten and Shackleton, 2011; Mertens et
al., 2000; Ndoye and Kaimowitz, 2000; Sunderlin et al., 2000). Of about one billion
hungry people globally, 98% live in developing countries. Seventy percent of
chronically hungry people are smallholder farmers, 43% of total farmers worldwide
are women and 38% of youths in Africa are working in agriculture (Conway and
Wilson, 2012; FAO, 2011). For instance, in forest areas of Cameroon, stunting and
chronic malnutrition was experienced by 30.3% of children between 24 47 months
in the South region and 27.8% in the Centre region (Socpa et al., 2008). Since the
varieties of wildfruits are numerous (Matig et al., 2006; van Wyk, 2005) and vary
from one season and climatic region to another, fruits and wild foods can constitute
important sources of food during crop scarcity (Vicenti et al., 2013; Termote et al.,
2012; Ingram and Shure 2010; Nesbit et al., 2010; Shackleton and Shackleton, 2004).
Thus, fruits can serve as safety nets in the diet of households when
42. Cultural Plunge
Cultural Plunge at an Asian Market
As I contemplated on what my cultural plunge was going to be, it made me realize
that I am lucky to say that I have been exposed and acquainted with maybe more
than the usual. My ex husband is Middle Eastern, I am Mexican, and I have homo
sexual friends, and have and had friends that are African American, Caucasian,
Japanese, Filipino, Jewish, and Korean. I finally chose to explore more of the Asian
culture because although I have friends that are Asian I liked to know more about
their culture. Being that I love to cook, I decided to go to an Asian market. As I
searched the internet for suggestions on where to go, I found 99 Ranch Market to have
the highest ratings. 99 Ranch Market is an Asian ... Show more content on

Although not sold in its original form at our common grocery stores, we normally see
the flavor being used in teas and smoothies. Then there was the mangosteen. It is
another purple fruit. It is creamy and citrusy with a hint of peach. Second to last is
the Lychee. This is a common Asian fruit that is small and white in the inside and
has a grape like texture when eaten. Lastly was the Durian, sadly the worst one of
them. It has hard spiky husk that needed to be cracked opened. I was warned about
this one but didn t think it was going to be as bad as it was. It smelled like skunk
spray/ sewage. I tried to taste it but didn t. We immediately threw it away. The smell
was horrible. A lady who I spoke to at the store prior to buying the fruit just told me
that it was an acquired taste and smell, but I didn t expect what we experienced.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed going through and tasting each fruit. It definitely was an
experience and an eye opener to the different types of fruit out there besides your
usual bananas, strawberries, and oranges.
Ultimately I have to say that I enjoyed this overall experience. It has opened up my
eyes to many different cultures and definitely different way of eating. Since my
visit, I have bought and Asian inspired cook book and plan to make a few dishes
with ingredients that are only found at Asian markets. Oh and next time I decided to
go; I ll make sure not to take my big
43. Algeri A Lack Of Medical Knowledge
Algeria is located in North Africa on the Mediterranean Sea. It is situated to the
west of Libya and Tunisia and east of Morocco. The north is fertile and
mountainous, in contrast to the south that includes parts of the Sahara desert. In
all, more than four fifths of Algeria is desert. Algeria is 919,590 square miles and
is the tenth largest country in the world. The country s population is 29.2 million
and is growing annually at 2.2 percent. About 75 percent of all residents are under
the age of 25 due to the short lived lives. Most shortened by disease a lack of
medical knowledge. The make up of Algeria consists of 83 percent Arabic, while
16 percent are of Amazigh lineage. Lastly, the Imazighen and Arabs are well
integrated to complete the make up of Algeria. The earliest inhabitants of Algeria
were cattle herders and hunters living in Al Hajjar between 8,000 and 2,000 BC.
In addition, Phoenicians settled in some of the coastal areas of Algeria from
Carthage what is now known as Tunisia. The Berber chief Massinissa established
the first Algerian kingdom, during the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage.
Massinissa ruled his kingdom of Numidia from 202. 148 BC. His dynasty lasted
until 106 BC, when his grandson Jurgatha became a Roman client. As part of the
Roman Empire Numidia flourished, with successfully building a road system as well
as a series of Roman garrisons which became small Roman cities. The Romans and
the Vandals held the coastal region until the Arab invasion
44. Differences Between Henri De Lautrec s Painting And
Degas...
Lautrec once said, I paint things as they are. I don t comment ( Henri de Toulouse
Lautrec quotes, n.d.). A painting can represent various objects and emotions within a
square canvas, which each artist creates an artwork with different techniques. These
make each painting has it own meaning. There are several differences between
Lautrec s painting and Degas painting, which are the artists themselves, the subject
matter, the emotions depicted, and the technique of painting.
The first difference between the paintings is the artists themselves. An artist is a
person who produces an artwork. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec is a french man. He was
born into an aristocratic family, which seems to be beneficial to him. However, he
was born with a genetic condition. Between the ages of thirteen and fourteen, his
legs were fractured, and both of them ceased to grow because he had a skeletal
disorder that causes his bones to recover improperly (Johnson Whitten, 2003). Due
to his abnormality, he was not able to do the same activities as others, so he mainly
focused on art. He became a well known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Composition means the position that each element placed in a painting. Lautrec
managed the position of the feature in Seated Dancer in Pink Tights by focusing on
the center and painting this ballerina in a major scale of the artwork (Martin, 2003).
On the other hand, Degas painted two objects in Waiting, and the artist divided the
space into two section for each of them (Martin, 2003). There are numerous
techniques to place features into different positions. Seated Dancer in Pink Tight,
Lautrec s painting, focuses on the single object at the center of the painting, which is
a ballerina. On the other side, Degas s painting illustrates several features, which is a
ballerina and a woman dressing in black, in order to support the contrary detail of
each feature. In summary, composition is the fourth
45. Sistine Chapel Essay By Michelangelo
The Sistine Chapel is one of the most beautiful artworks known to man, but who
knew that so many secrets could be hidden in the artwork that covers the ceilings and
walls of the sacred church. The Sistine Chapel was falling apart and after getting it
fixed church needed someone to decorate the inside with the most intelligent strokes
of a paint brush. After searching Pope Julius ll chose the famous artist Michelangelo
to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo may or may not have
wanted to paint the Sistine Chapel for the Pope. Symbols are everywhere in art;
Michelangelo was able to put large and even some insulting symbols on the ceiling
of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was the full
name of the famous artist we all call by just his first name Michelangelo.
Michelangelo was born on March 6th, 1475 in Caprese, Italy and lived with his
parents and four siblings. Michelangelo s mother became sick when he was an
infant and he was raised by a wet nurse. In Michelangelo s teen years he would
leave school early and go to the church to watch the painted while they worked; his
family started to see him as a disgrace as they didn t see art as a profession he should
join(Michelangelo). As he became older he worked more and more with stone over

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel using a fresco technique(Tate). Fresco
painting is done by brushing water based paint directly onto freshly laid plaster so
that the paint becomes one with the plaster. With the paint and plaster becoming

The agency problems or conflicts are continuously happening between the principal
and the agent. It particularly arises when an interest conflict occurs between the
principal and the agent. In terms of finance, there are two core agency relationships;
managers and stockholders and managers and creditors. To balance the interests and
satisfactions between managers and stockholders which helps firm to improve
performance, there are a variety of different measures have been generated and
implemented by Telstra in order to optimize the bond and monitoring costs.

To be specific, the two performance measures demonstrated by Telstra in the FY13
LTI Plan are RTSR which account for 50 percent related to share price performance
and RCF RIO which also stand for 50 percent relevant to the investment. It may help
executives to consider investment for higher return rather than achieving higher
customer satisfaction (Telstra Annual Report, 2013. P. 51). However, the majority of
large or small enterprises operate business successfully with building strategy and
programs based on customers demands. For example, the mobile manufacturers set
wireless and 3G option for smart phones as customers expect to access the internet
more conveniently. Thus, understanding the expectations of customer effectively
prevents company from losing market share.
In terms of long term incentives, Telstra only offers share bonus for executives that
can potentially inducing executives to focus on short term benefits particularly for
those are under contract (Telstra Annual Report, 2013. P. 51). On the contrary, cash
rewarding may motivate executives more effectively. However, it can brings some
potential risks for company if executives decide to participate in high level risk
programs to acquire short term benefits which will finally damage company s long
term value. Moreover,

The accessibility of modern technology in the lives of the public advocates the
immoderate consumption of screen time. Within the past century, America s
development of futuristic technologies has surpassed expectations. The tools
available today are often looked upon as a major improvement to society but often
enough, the drawbacks are not recognized. As Americans are submerged in the influx
of technological devices, the ability to restrain from them is mitigated. People
prominently enjoy using electronics, specifically television and computers, due to the
proximity they hold in their lives. When an object is constantly surrounding
someone, he or she often becomes attached to it, finding comfort in its presence.
Likewise, when a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the television is always on, simply sitting down for a twenty minute program
can lead to a night spent on the couch. However, televisions are not the only culprits
contributing to the issue. The accessibility found in cell phones and computers is
beyond extraordinary. The knowledge of the world can be obtained with a click of a
button or a tap of a finger. The introduction of the internet has revolutionized the way
of life for better or for worse. Rather than reading newspapers and books to retrieve
information, people resort to the internet for their means. This is entirely justifiable,
considering the drastic variation in the time required to access information on each
platform. However, smart phones and computers have become the primary way to
communicate and interact with the outside world due to their simplicity and agility.
The convenience of modern technology is partially responsible for America s
obsession with screens.
In times of boredom, people often turn to electronics to satisfy their hunger for
entertainment. Society has made it acceptable to rely on television and social media
for amusement during free time rather than participating in more traditional forms of
time pass. Reading books and newspapers has become a burden now that information
can so easily be found in the technology that is becoming more and more accessible.
Even children often prefer television to books and toys. The novelty preference

awkward for Parker to try and maneuver her way through the airport s terminal.
Every corner and service desk she looked at she would see best friends, families,

even happier to be here.
The Netherlands are nice, Parker decides. She likes the small towns where you can

After sending her last text to Nichole, Parker went straight back to Tumblr. Only

Parker watched the three girls with curiosity as they all giggled over something.
Each of the girls was shorter than her, Parker had guessed, one probably being near 5

caught her attention. It reminded Parker of Nichole. Parker continued to watch the
three girls, sort of enticed by the magenta haired girl.

Just as Parker was taking a sip of her tea, the magenta haired girl turned around.
Instantly Parker started to choke on her drink. Quickly she looked away from the
three girls and covered her mouth with her hand

History of the House
The book Haunting of Hill House and the movie Rose Red. Both stories were about a
scientist trying to prove the the paranormal was real by taking people into a haunted
house. But also there are so many things that they had in different and here are some
things about the houses some similarities about the characters and differences etc.
Some differences about the house are that, when we start reading the book that lady

Theodora, and all of the other people that they visit the house, that anybody live
around the house the closes that they live was six miles away because if they live
close to the house something bad will happen that why they live six miles away. In
the movie there was no leady that they clean the house there was no body there and
there was houses around the house like across the street because all of the bad things
just happen at the house inside or in the garden but not like outside like in the street
or anything like that. Another interes thing that wasn t the same from the book to the
movie was like in the book when they first enter to the house the door didn t close by
themself I think Mrs. Dudley close the doors and, in the movie when annie enter to
the house there was these water source and I think she made it to work again and
the rest of the people say where is annie and she enter to the house and the door
closed by it self.

Many of the great poems we read today were written in times of great distress. One of
these writers was Randall Jarrell. After being born on May 6, 1914, in Nashville
Tennessee, Jarrell and his parents moved to Los Angeles where his dad worked as a
photographer. When Mr. and Mrs. Jarrelldivorced, Randall and his younger brother
returned to Nashville to live with their mother. While in Nashville, Randall attended

Jarrell uses a great deal of imagery in this poem to help the reader get a better
picture of what is going on. In the first line of the poem Jarrell uses visual, auditory
and tactile imagery. When he uses the words, mother s sleep, the reader can see the
mother laying in her bed sound asleep. Also the reader can hear the deep breaths
that the mother is taking while she slumbers. The reader gets the tactile image
when the author says, I fell, because almost everyone has experienced the falling
sensation before. Since the word, State, is capitalized one can see that Jarrell is
talking about some form of government. The reader gets the visual image of a
government sitting around planning something big. In the second line of the
poem, And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze, the reader gets visual, tactile
and thermal imagery. First of all the reader can see a person hunched, with his
knees almost at his chest, in the belly of something. Also the reader can see a
person with a fur coat that is almost covered in ice. The thermal imagery comes in
when Jarrell says the word, froze. The reader can feel the cold coming from the
frozen jacket as he reads the poem. When Jarrell says the words, hunched in the
belly, the reader gets a very uncomfortable feeling. In line number three the reader
gets visual imagery as well as slight tactile imagery. The visual imagery comes
52. Buddhist Meditation Essay
Meditation as a whole and not just Buddhist meditation is a process that a person
uses to quiet the mind and body so one can become away of a higher truth.
Meditation has been incorporated in virtually all religions around the world. Of
course not all religions use the actual term meditation , it can be referred to as
praying the rosary and so on. Meditationis not always and does not need to be
associated with religion. There are plenty of people that meditate daily who have no
religious affiliation or even believe in God. Meditation can stand on its own without
religion, do to the many health benefits both physically and psychologically. A
successful meditation is when the mind becomes quiet without thoughts and the

In Buddhist meditation the mind and body are joined together as one. Through
Buddhist meditation the goal becomes no goal and the mind becomes silent with an
increased awareness. Another way of stating this is, in Buddhist meditation,
meditation is performed for the sake of meditation and the cultivation of wisdom. The
purpose of Buddhist meditation is to still the mind and stop the never ending flow of
thoughts we all have. There are several different ways to perform Buddhist
meditation. These Buddhist meditation techniques have been practiced for a long
time and are proven to work. There are no right or wrong places to practice Buddhist
meditation. It has been shown that when Buddhist meditation is practiced in a group
that the meditation experience is much deeper. It is also known that when Buddhist
meditation is practiced in the same place at the same time the meditation becomes
deeper much faster. Of course these things are not required, but will only aid the
meditator in the practice of Buddhist

Bullet in the Brain is a short story about a sarcastic book critic, who allows his
criticism to extend to his everyday life and soon learns why that is not a good idea.
Anders is known for the weary elegant savagery with which he dispatched almost
everything he reviewed. He is portrayed as especially unsympathetic. He is standing
in line at a bank and gets stuck behind two women whose loud stupid conversations
put him in an angry mood. He engages in sarcastic, belittling repartee with the women
when a robbery occurs. Two men wearing black ski masks are standing on the side
of the door. He can not resist making an acid comment about the language of the
robber when one of the robbers threatens the teller that she ll be dead meat if she ...

Anders is strangely aroused, elated by these final words, their pure unexpectedness
and their music. This is in contrast to the robber s language, which is slang, crude
and inauthentic. The robber is portrayed as sensitive and self absorbed with a strong
persecution complex and murderous temper. The robber is also stupid and heartless.
He could have just knocked down Anders with a pistol so as not to attract the cops.
Instead he shoots him.
The style of eliciting non memory and memory emphasises the lost of innocence of
childhood and of life lived in contrast with life wasted, and the disillusionment that
followed leading to his insensitivity and ultimate self destruction. This information is
expository, but it flashes back to Anders past. The author uses effectively the
flashback to provide another viewpoint of the central character because Anders was
pictured as unsympathetic in the beginning of the story. The memory itself, fittingly,
is narrated in present tense in contrast with most of the story

The Accidental Statesman: General Petraeus and the City of Mosul, Iraq
General Petraeus was a career military officer whom graduated from the US
Military Academy at West Point. He was always very competitive and would
always strive for the best. According to a news feed, Petraeus always told his
soldiers Life is a competitive endeavor (Bowmen, 2010). General Petraeus held many
commands, but gained most of his knowledge when selected as the deputy
commander of a counter terrorism joint task force. His position taught him the crucial
importance how excellent intelligence was to effective military operations and
learned the mechanics of multinational operations. In 2002, Major General Petraeus
assumed command for the US ARMY s 101st Airborne Division. In 2003, tasked with
the mission to stage the division in Kuwait, Petraeus was to occupy the Nineveh
province, a sector of Iraq stretching over 75,000 square kilometers. In the direct
center and having the best tactical advantage, the capital city of Mosul was where
he would occupy first. Soon after the occupation of the city of Mosul, Major
General Petraeus was successful during the occupation of Mosul, Iraq because he
was able to direct his key leaders, lead his troops, and assess situations to accomplish
