Analysis Of Victor SпїЅjeur s The Mulatto
Victor SГ©jeur s The Mulatto
Published in 1837 in France by Victor Sejeur, The Mulatto is a graphic representation of both the
physical violence occurring during the life of an enslaved person in St. Domingue. The American
expatriate SГ©jeur was unencumbered by the limitations experienced by mid 19th century black
authors in the United States and could freely express the violent reality of a society based in a
slave economy. The story of Georges, the son of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, is told by
an elderly narrator during the time after the slave rebellion to the unnamed narrator visiting St.
Domingue for the first time. The Mulatto is an examination of the violence inherent in a society
based upon slavery and the reverberation of that violence. SГ©jeur specifically focuses on how the
violence of a society based upon a slave economy pervasively impacts the societal unit of the family
and includes violence committed by the oppressors on the oppressed as well as the violent reaction
of those that have had their family and humanity mutually devastated.
The frame narrative structure of The Mulatto frames the violence occurring in the life of Georges
during the time before abolition within an external contextual frame of his story being told during
post slavery St. Domingue. The tone of simmering anger and violence in the elderly narrator as he
addresses the original narrator as Master and then proceeds to describe how the master would do

Motivation in leadership through Achievement Motivation Theory
MM3151 Managerial Leadership
Introduction
Motivation is the willingness to exert high levels of effort towards a goal, provided the effort
made also satisfied some individual need. (Keenan K., 1995, e.g. 60)
Everyone at least once asked themselves: What I am doing now? , Where will it bring me? , How
can it help me to reach my target? . These questions have always accompanied me and help to
understand what I want and what is my goal. We have a motivation from the childhood, for
example, to get sweets or toys: every child love candies, chocolates, toys, and parents motivate us
by saying: Study hard, get a high mark and I will buy you everything ... Show more content on

more than 2 hours straight. This is the story of Matilda Wormwood, a 5 year old, imaginative

Determining Lodging Tolerance Are Mostly Taken Around Bud...
Measurements to determine lodging tolerance are mostly taken around bud to mid bloom stage
(Johnson et al. 2008). They reported two methods used in carrying out these measurements and
subsequent rating; 1) spaced plants trial and 2) solid seeded plots. In the spaced plant method,
rating was done based on the percentage of erect stems within plant rows while in the solid seeded
plots method, plots were rated based on percentage of erect stem within the plot. Different methods
have been adopted to tackle lodging. Some of them include soil quality improvement, good
management practice (HCGA 2005) cultivation of dwarf varieties, and introduction of lodging
resistant varieties (Prairie Grains 2005). Hasnath and Jahan (2013) investigated the lodging
resistance of different genotypes of hard wheat. They noted that some genotypes (Pradiv, Akbar,
Gourav, and Shatabdi) had higher lodging resistance than others (Bijoy, Sufi, Shourav, Barkat,
Prativa, and Balaka,). Kong et al. (2013) reported that the solid stemmed wheat genotypes are more
resistant than the hollow stemmed genotypes. The difference was because the solid stemmed wheat
having more mechanical support tissues as well as a wider stem wall. On the other hand, Crook
and Ennos (1994) work on the lodging resistance of four winter wheat cultivars revealed that the
lodging resistance was independent of stiffness of the stem but rather was related to the height of
the stem. They recommended shorter stem plants with widespread

The Damnation of a Canyon Essay
Strong Response: The Damnation of a Canyon In the reading The Damnation of a Canyon, the
author, Edward Abbey, described his outlook on the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.
Throughout his reading, he emphasized many positives the Glen Canyon Dam once had. The text
revealed Abbey believing the nature that Glen Canyon used to contain and how people didn t
appreciate it. He used his perspectives of when he worked as a park ranger before all the changes
happened. He strongly believed in nature. He felt that he supported his argument with facts and his
personal opinions. If Abbey discussed his views to others, then maybe he could ve understood the
reason why other people enjoy the new reservoir. I feel that Abbey has the right to judge... Show

He provided situations for people to acknowledge like the cost, adventure that people could be
experienced, and the trip that can be safe and easier than a powerboat tour of the reservoir. I
think he appeared to be trustworthy of his own words because he gave us elements of nature.
Agreeing with Abbey does have a lot of appalling outlooks. There are people that will go against
his argument since his resources seem to only come from his personal experience. I will agree
with Abbey because every day people are killing nature like there is no tomorrow. People are
taking advantage of what nature gave us. Every where you turn, natural habitat are being
disturbed just for some lousy houses. Abbey is trying to convince people to be on his side with
nature. He described before the damnation that there were springs, sometimes flowing streams,
waterfalls and plunge pools. Abbey gave us an illustration how the dam looked and it was filled
with songbirds: vireos, warblers, mockingbirds, and thrushes and larger mammals mule deer,
coyote, bobcat, ring tailed cat, gray fox, kit fox, skunk, badgersВ… He argued nature was killed
during the process of building the reservoir. This argument probably brought many people s
attention to agree or disagree with him. Abbey represented the environmentalists to help grow the
anti dam movement. If I had the chance to do the movement then I will help and support it. He also
argued people that doesn t appreciate

Essay on Causes of World War I
World War One, also known as The Great War and The First Modern War was a very large scale
war lasting over four years, involving nations from around the world and ultimately killing more
than twenty million people. The cause of this war cannot be accredited to one single event but
rather an assassination of a nation s leader and many political philosophies including militarism,
nationalism, imperialism and the formation of alliances. On Sunday June twenty eighth 1914 in
Sarajevo Bosnia the Archduke of Austria Hungary, Francis Ferdinand, was shot and killed by an
eighteen year old Bosnian Serb nationalist by the name of Gavrilo Princip. It is said that princip

Many European nations had colonies which helped to gather raw materials from foreign places
and extend their rule among others. France and Britain had many colonies in parts on north
Africa and Asia but Germany and Italy did not. They wanted to be a colonial empire as well
fueling the fight for colonies among these four nations. The alliances of this war are what made
it a World War . Before the war there were two main alliances and they were the Triple Alliance
consisting of Germany, Austria Hungary and Italy and the Triple Entente which had Britain,
France and Russia. This all changed when Ferdinand was murdered. Austria declared war on
Serbia, causing Russia to declare war on Austria. Through Germany s ties with Austria they then
declared war on Russia. France had previously agreed to help Russia so Germany declared war
on France. Later when Germany invaded Belgium, Britain declared war on Germany due to its
ties with Belgium. Italy then eventually joined Britain, France and Russia. America was later
brought into the war in 1917 by its connections with England. So during the war the alliance
systems changed to the Central Powers consisting of Germany, Austria Hungary, Bulgaria and the
Ottoman Empire and the Allied Powers which were Britain, France, Russia, Serbia, United States
and, Japan to a small degree. World War one was very different from previous wars for many

Homelessness in Cincinnati Essay
In Ohio (The Tri state), and over the last 17 years, there has been a 160% population increase.
Homelessness has become a problem in the city of Cincinnati. Many families are homeless
because of job layoffs and exhausted unemployment benefits. Some families are employed but do
not earn enough wages to support a family and pay for adequate housing. Young single mothers
can receive welfare benefits (Aid for Dependent Children) for 36 months. During that time they
are supposed to be furthering their education or preparing to go to work. If neither is
accomplished, the mother will receive medical for the children and food stamps only. If the family

People are forced to move and find other dwellings. For example, an apartment building called the
metro pole was recently sold for renovation. The people who reside in the building are the
disabled, mentally ill or people difficult to place in other housing, for some reason or another. The
building was built more than 30 years ago and has 230 two room affordable apartments; in a very
convenient location near downtown Cincinnati, close to bus stops, and shopping. The building will
be renovated to a 160 room lustrous hotel, so that upscale workers can be near their jobs. In
2008, city council had limited jobs for human service workers for the people in over the Rhine.
Over the Rhine is a small community in the heart and back end of downtown Cincinnati, known as
the ghetto. It consists of poor people of all nationalities and in which most of the homeless live.
Although organizations are working with the Cincinnati Interfaith Worker Center in helping day
labor workers organize to improve job stipulations; wages, and working conditions(Greater
Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless, 2010), jobs are still not an option in Cincinnati for the
homeless, or those with criminal records. When the only viable jobs are offered by labor pools,
the people are often exploited and treated with less dignity and have the lowest most devastating
working conditions.

Great War Dbq Essay
There were many underlying causes of the Great War, one of the primary reasons was the creation
of alliances between countries. Another reason, which was helped by the alliances, was the fact
that Serbia killed the Austria Hungary archduke, causing the two of them to go to war. Altogether
many people in the world were excited to go to war, wanting to prove how strong their country is
and thinking it would be a quick war.
Even before the war started there were plotting and alliances made. Germany, Austria Hungary, and
Italy made the triple alliance (Doc D), and the United Kingdom, France, and Russia formed the
Triple Entente (Doc D). If another country would attack one of the countries in one of these
alliances the other countries would employ all their forces to help, beginning an all out battle (Doc
E). Along with this because they were thriving so well due to imperialism, many countries decided
to build up their military to make sure they stayed strong (Doc L).
The alliances were made in part to protect Serbia and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

supported Serbia, war was almost impossible to avoid (Doc M). They believed it was better to
go to war now rather than latter and get it over with, seen in the quote I believe war is
unavoidable and the sooner the better. by German general, General von Moltke. It was official
saying like this that drove the countries to war, creating a great deal of nationalism, many even
cheering (Doc C) when they were told they were going to war. Some saw war better than just
waiting for it, however when spirits dropped during the war the nations attempted to keep the
countries excited with propaganda like songs and posters (Doc H) and it worked, keeping people
eager for war. They wanted to win the war for the working class, sacrificing many soldiers to the

First off one major concept that was apparent through out the movie is prejudice which in its slef

Which is defined as a kind of thinking in which maintaining group cohesiveness and solidarity is
more important than considering the facts in a realistic manner . This theory first came about
from Ivering Janis. He belived there had to be certain criteria met for group think to be likely to
occur. Some criteria are things such as group cohesion or having a distinct leader. Recen re
evaluate of janis s has shown that group think occurs more often then original thought and all
criteria does not have to be apperent for it to occur. The jury in twelve angry men did exibit
signs that were common when group think was apparent. In the beginning majority of the men
wanted to come to a decision quickly they felt the young boy was guilty and didn t want to waist
there time. So we can assume the group was mostly unified in there opinions. As well the men
were isolated from outside opinion. You can even assume there is a group leader, although there
was never really a distinct leader a couple men were very opinionated and made there thoughts
heard. Next is is said that to create groupthink there needs to be a supposed threat . while the
majority voted guilty there was one man who voted not guilty. We can see as a threat because many
of the jury members tried to convince him to conform to the groups verdict. The group was very
hostile towards the man that disagreed with the majority. An indicator of groupthink is

Nietzsche s Philosophy On Personal Life And Education
Friedrich Nietzsche was a German, writer, poet, thinker and philopher. He was renowned for his
ideas on the end of religion, existentialism and the concept of good and evil. Nietzsche focused
essentially on the end of religion. He once declared that God is dead , a statement that decidedly
defied Christianity as well as morality. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, he
was rapt in the development of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity,
power, and down to earth realities, rather than those situated in a world beyond . Nietzsche s work
inspired the likes of famed psychologist such as Sigmund Freud as well as other philosophers.
Although most of his ideas opposed what other philosophers such as Plato, Immanuel Kantand John
Stuart Mills have taught us, his theories on metaphysics, ethics, and politics may very well have
independently shape society has it is today.
Personal Life and Education
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on October 15, 1844 in Röcken Germany. He was raised
as a Lutheran where his father served as a pastor. However, in later years, Nietzsche developed a
certain disregard for the church and abandon Christianity all together, thus proclaiming God is dead.
The death of his father and younger brother proved rather distressing for young Nietzsche who was
the only male in a household filled with women. He attended prestigious boarding school where he
proved his capabilities in the classics, literature and

The Telegraph Research Paper
The telegraph not only united the nation with access to quicker communication, it was also the
foundation for advanced technology like computers and phones. It took many physicists, inventors,
scientists, and others to do research and experiments that lead to the telegraph an invention that
would change the world forever. In the 1780s, galvanism was unintentionally discovered by Luigi
Galvani while he was doing experiments in animal physiology. Galvanism is an electric current
made when two metals and a moist environment come into contact. Hans Christian Oersted made a
discovery that a magnetized needle could be moved by an electric current. This was an important
step toward the telegraph by varying the current with electromagnets, a message could be sent

He developed a telegraph that could send signals for over a mile. William F. Cooke and Charles
Wheatstone constructed a telegraph that used 5 needles and 5 wires, then 2 needles and wires,
and finally one needle and wire. The first practical telegraph, however, was made in 1837 by
Samuel F. B. Morse. The making of his telegraph was thanks to all the research that took place
for over decades. In November of 1832, Morse built his first model of the telegraph. The
telegraph used a portrule to turn the electric current s flow on and off. His original code was
number sequences each particular sequence representing a word. By 1835, his improved model
was larger and on it was a small picture frame that held a pencil. The electromagnets would move
the pencil to make dots and dashes on paper tape. A dot would be made by a smaller amount of
electric current, while a dash is a larger amount. Morse started working with Leonard Gale, a
chemistry professor, in 1836. Gale helped to upgrade the electromagnet and battery to allow
messages to be sent farther. On Sep. 2,

1. Why did the mysterious gentleman and his valet break into the abandoned chateau? a) The valet

man is injured and he does not want the man to have to sleep outside.
2. What was unusual about the oval portrait? a) The oval portrait was so unusual because it had
been hidden in the dark near the bedpost. The painting is of a young girl who looks like she is about
to become a woman. The painting startled the narrator because it looks so real that he almost
thought the girl was in front of him in real life.

because he knew that she was an obedient caring woman and would support him. A man who
truly loved his wife would not put art before his own wife and would definitely not allow her to
die in front of him. This just proves what his true priorities in life are.
6. Can you imagine a similar situation occurring today? Explain why or why not.
a)I feel like this situation is quite common in relationships. A man or woman goes out with
someone just because they know that person is a good person at heart. They believe they love
them, but it is their qualities the love, not the person as a whole and definitely not for the right
reasons. Relationships like this never last, because the person is always choosing other things over
their loved one. Gambling is a perfect example for this scenario. A person may choose gambling
over the person they love, because in fact they love gambling more than the person itself, and
therefore cannot stop gambling and will put nothing above it.

Succeeding in academics can be affected greatly by your personality. Being an ISTJ and having

since I was a child, I have always been responsible, orderly, and statistical, and as time passed,
these traits become a natural habit. I see this as a strength since it had helped me significantly in
my studies, but some of these traits also restrict my creativity and often makes it difficult for me

rarely ever influence my conclusions and perceptions, and I place a great deal of trust in my
judgement, which is based mostly off of logic and reasoning. I do not make assumptions, and
instead, I prefer to observe my surroundings and take a practical, well planned course of action.
This causes me to have little tolerance and patience for indecisiveness and intuitive judgments; I

Assessing and Measuring Competitiveness of Commercial...
The main goal of this section is to provide a review on literature and related models to the research

assessing and measuring competitiveness of commercial banks. However, there is no any study

competitiveness of commercial banks, XIA Bin, PAN Bin, vГ XIA Hui, (2008) said that the sharp
change in the management environment in banking system of China is an important sign to
implement researches and analyses objectively and efficiently. Therefore, in their studies, authors
used Factor Analysis method to analyze and appraise the competitiveness of commercial banks in
China, from which, the weight of each indexes would be defined, simultaneously the
competitiveness state of the banks would be manifested by ranking them into different categories.
Specially, in this model, besides financial variables to be used to analyze, other factors such as
governance structure, business innovation and human resources are also considered. Finally, they
combined results of this research with the actual conditions of Chinese commercial banks to
provide important strategies for strengthening the competitiveness of their country and
simultaneously keeping the persistent development of China s economy in a healthy and safe way.

Vittorio De Sico And Italian Neorealism
The average outing to the local movie theater is a pleasant experience; a show of laughs and
drama and romance, wrapped into a satisfying plot to be quickly forgotten by the transient
audience. The experiences of the Second World War, especially in Italy, forced the artistic film
industry to grow jaded quickly. Italian Neorealism, a film movement at odds with the conventional
cinematic experience, finds it somewhat inappropriate to have idealized heroes achieve happily
ever after lives after so many did not in the grim reality of the war. Vittorio De Sicaand Cesare
Zavattiniwere pioneers of the movement, which (although not the first) is best exemplified by
Umberto D., released in Italy in 1952, and after a slow commercial reception, released abroad
and in the U.S. in 1955. It features an old man and his dog as they struggle to survive in the
tough reality of the Italian postwar city. The film was hailed by critics as a shining example of
the maturity and emotional power of realism. In a world of fabricated Hollywood plots, critics
all over the world in the 1950s relished the uncompromising candor of the neorealist film
Umberto D., while the commercial reception clearly shows that the mass audience preferred the
purified filters of non realist cinema. Cesare Zavattini, the co writer of Umberto D. and many
other films with De Sica, gave an interview in 1952 in which he outlined the theory and essence
of Italian Neorealism. He deplored the practice of inventing banal and contrived plots, calling it
superimposing dead formulas over living social facts (Zavattini). If a story is death to Zavattini,
reality is life. He sees real life as a rich mine of content with no sparkling additives necessary; a
simple everyday action can be dissected and investigated to reveal a greater truth about the reality
of the situation. Poverty is the main subject for neorealist films, and Zavattini justifies this by
saying he features poverty because it is the most important contemporary reality of the people.
Neorealist films do not use professional actors either; the title character in Umberto D. was played
by a university professor with no acting experience. This adds to the realism by having people who
actually face the

St Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park Essay
St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park is a wondrous place that is highlighted by a beautiful white sand
beach. Although this state park can be challenging to get to, it is well worth the effort. Take a look
at everything this remote beach has to offer.
Location
St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park is located on the northern end of Jupiter Island, slightly east of
Port Salerno. Those wishing to visit this state park may only access it via boat.
The beach
Once you reach the island, you will be treated to a stretch of beach that extends almost three
spectacular miles. You can do just about anything your heart desires on this beach. If you are
looking for just a minimal amount of activity, you can stroll along the sandy shore. You can watch
the waves lap against the shore as a calm feeling washes over you. If you visit the beach between
March and October, you will also get to see leatherback, green, and loggerhead sea turtles, as
they use this area as a nesting ground. If you crave a bit more activity, you can head to the water
where you can surf, snorkel, or SCUBA dive. If all of that seems like too much activity for you,
you can grab a towel, catch some rays, and watch the other people on the beach. Whatever way you
choose to spend your time at the beach, you will certainly have a spectacular time. ... Show more

Those who engage in this activity should be aware that the water temperature ranges from the mid

by those going in the water. Further, there are no lifeguards are on duty, so swimming is at your own

Designing The Costume For The Tin Man
1. Imagine you are designing the costume for the Tin Man. What advantages and disadvantages
does the costume in the film have? (Consider aspects such as mobility, realism, artistic intent, and
so on.) Would you make any changes to the costume for a theater production? Why or why not?
If i were to design a costume for the tin man, some advantages would be price, and portability, but
some of the disadvantaged would be the way it may reflect light and also if it s comfortable for the
one who wears it.

Analysis Of The Lost Boy By Dave Pelzer
The Lost Boy, written by Dave Pelzer is a heartwarming story of a young nine year old boy, David,
who has family issues and is constantly being abused by his mother. Dave Pelzer is a New York
Times Bestseller and a #1 International Bestseller. He has written other books such as A Child
Called It , My Story, and A Man Named Dave, etc. This is my first story read by this author
however, I will read more of his work in the near future. The genre of this book I would say is
self help, psychology and inspirational because it sends out such a strong statement of what this
young boy and probably many other children are dealing with, in other words, it helps raise
awareness. I myself did not imagine to be reading this type of book since I m more... Show more

The main idea of this book is to show everyone what child abuse and what living in different
foster homes is like because most of the time people don t usually talk about this topic due to
sensitivity and this book helped everyone realize in a subtle way. I learned that this story isn t
just imagined, but it does indeed happen in real life. Children do live in households where the
mother or father or whoever treats them unfair and that is what opened up my eyes. One of the
parts in the book that I enjoyed the most is towards the end of the book for the reason that earlier
in the story, when David first ran away from home he saw a road sign that lead to a lake where him
and his family would visit in the past and right then and there he said he was going to live there
when he grew up and in the end, his desire came true and he lived in a cabin he made himself by
the lake with his son, Stephen.
One of my favorite quotes of this story would be on page 303 which says, Years ago, I truly
doubted whether I d make it out alive. In my former life I had very little. Today, as I stand in my
utopia, I have what any person could wish for a life and the love of my son. Stephen and I are a
family. The reason I like this quote is because all his life, David was looking for a family and love
and he finally found it.
In conclusion, I would most definitely recommend this book because it s very vulnerable and
emotional. Right from the beginning it may

The Role Of Inhibitory Modulation Of Languages Among...
The Role of Inhibitory Modulation of Languages among Bilinguals
In a rich linguistic environment, where more than 7000 languages are spoken in 149 countries,
multilingualism and bilingualism are inevitable (Crystal, 2003; Grosjean, 2010). While the causes
of increased bilingualism and multilingualism can vary, the repercussions of this demographic shift
are wide reaching (O Brien, Curtin, Naqvi, 2014). Consequently, research on bilingualism and
multilingualism has also dramatically increased in the last few years in quantity, quality and breadth
(Bhatia William, 2013).
In the past two decades, series of discoveries has changed the way bilingualism was understood
(Kroll, Bobb, Hoshino, 2014). The consequences of bilingualism are not limited to native and
second language but appear to reflect reorganization of brain networks that hold implications for the
ways in which bilinguals negotiate cognitive competition more generally. The bilingual experience
for every individual is unique as it depends upon the context, linguistic proficiency, and purpose.
There is also a great variability in the amount and quality of exposure to the languages that the
individual learns. Due to this capriciousness in bilingual characteristics, defining bilingualism
becomes problematic and raises number of theoretical and methodological concerns (Hamers Blanc,
2000).
The term bilingualism is generally defined as an individual s ability to use two languages (ASHA,
2004; European

Papa John s Argument Analysis
On its website, Papa John s Pizza proclaims its product with the following message: better
ingredients, better pizza. The company wanted to achieve product diversity, therefore it continued
to push its boundaries. While there are a lot of pizza eateries to choose from, it is apparent that
not all are equal. This was not apparent to one of Papa John s competitors, PizzaHut, who found the
claim to be deceptive. In 1995, Papa John s hired a consulting firm called Trout Partners, and they
coined the tagline that has become synonymous with the now multi billion dollar company

determining the spectrum of light each absorbs. The questions being posed are which pigment is
the most active in absorbing energy and which wavelengths of light it absorbs. By using paper

be concluded that chlorophyll is the most active pigment and photosynthetic pigments in plants

Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Energy
The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Energy
Tiny objects known as atoms are always around you. The mass of each of these atoms have a
concentrated centre known as the nucleus, and the rest of the mass is in a cloud of electrons
which surrounds the nucleus. Protons and neutrons are particles that make up the nucleus. Under
special circumstances, the nucleus of a large atom can split into two. This is due to an amount
of the mass of the atom is being converted to pure energy. The famous formula produced by
Albert Einstein, where the M is the mass and C is the speed of light m/s. The Manhattan Project
successfully used this energy in a chain reaction to create nuclear bombs (What is Nuclear,
2016). Nuclear energy in today s society has expanded as far as having over 400 power reactors in
the world. However, there are many positives and negatives about nuclear energy, ranging from
nuclear weapons to disasters like Chernobyl in 1986. The potential of the nuclear fission to create
energy was discovered by an Italian Physicist, Enrico Fermi in 1934 when he blasted atoms and
found out that the products were much finer than what he originally thought (Earth Eclipse, 2017).
He made the original nuclear reaction on December 2, 1942 and figure out its power and
efficiency to use. In July 1945, the first test on nuclear reaction was held in the desert of New
Mexico through a nuclear bomb. Nuclear energy is generated through a nuclear power plant which

President Bill Clinton s Impeachment
I was 17 at the time, I remember walking into the house and my parents were glued to the
television. It was basically on every channel, the House of Representative voted to impeach
President Bill Clinton. I remember the news asking people what they thought. The people they
asked were divided. The older crowd was for his removal from office and the younger crowd was
against it.
President Bill Clinton s impeachment was not the first in American history. The first presidential
impeachment was in 1868 when President Johnson had removed the then War Secretary. This was
two years after the Tenure of Office Act, which barred the president from removing some major
office holders in the government without the consent of the Senate.

In 1867, the Republicans passed the Tenure of Office Act that occurred over the president s veto.
According to the Tenure of Office Act, the president did not possess enough power to remove an
official that was put in office through senatorial approval. The act was mainly meant to protect
those officials who were Republicans. Late 1867, President Johnson decided to put the
constitutionality of the Tenure of Office Act to the test, this was done by replacing Stanton with
Ulysses Grant. However, Johnson was forced to return the office back to Stanton after the Senate
had put in place a measure to protest the president s move. On February 21, 1968, Johnston
decided to do away with Stanton forever. Johnston did this by replacing Stanton with Lorenzo
Thomas. This Simple act leads to the impeachment of President Johnson and unlike Bill Clinton s,
it was a successful one (Foner 653). Fifty years from now, the Americans will be able to see that in

Financial Analysis of the Healthcare Field
Introduction
In the ever changing dynamic of the healthcare industry, it is central to look at financial trends and
different types of financial analysis to capitalize on resources and minimize future impacts. With
any growing healthcare organization it is vital to be aware of one s internal and external
environment, the community it serves as well as the status of the economy. The purpose of this
paper is to determine the significance of certain types of financial analysis, particularly financial
ratios, the use of EBITDA and how they influence the healthcare field.
EBITDA, Financial Ratios and growing trends in healthcare EBITDA is an acronym which stands
for earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization and generally used to
determine how profitable a company can be (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). The basic
understanding of the EBITDA is defined as the money the company has made without
considering expenses or taxes (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This can give a false sense of
how much the company is actually making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a company creates
a product that costs the consumer $10, and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. With
EBITDA, it is assumed there is already a $2000 profit made even if the product is actually never
purchased. EBITDA does not calculate the manufacturing costs, taxes and employee salaries that go
into making a product. Although EBITDA does not seem to measure the actual value of a

Similarities Between Plato And Aristotle
Plato versus Aristotle Plato and Aristotle, two philosophers in the 4th century, hold polar views on
politics and philosophy in general. This fact is very cleverly illustrated by Raphael s School of
Athens (1510 11; Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican), where Plato is portrayed looking up to the
higher forms; and Aristotleis pointing down because he supports the natural sciences. In a
discussion of politics, the stand point of each philosopher becomes an essential factor. It is not
coincidental that Plato states in The Republic that Philosopher Rulers who possess knowledge
of the good should be the governors in a city state. His strong interest in metaphysics is
demonstrated in The Republic various times: for example, the similes of the cave, the sun, and
the line, and his theory of the forms. Because he is so involved in metaphysics, his views on
politics are more theoretical as opposed to actual. Aristotle, contrarily, holds the view that
politics is the art of ruling and being ruled in turn. In The Politics, he attempts to outline a way
of governing that would be ideal for an actual state. Balance is a main word in discussing
Aristotle because he believes it is the necessary element to creating a stable government. His less
metaphysical approach to politics makes Aristotle more in tune with the modern world, yet he is
far from modern. Plato s concept of what politics and government should be is a direct result of his
belief in the theory of forms. The theory of forms

Characteristics Of A Personality Disorder
Psychopathy is condition in which an individual has a wide array of negative personality traits.
The trait that stands out the most is that they enjoy the suffering of others, as well as
compulsively, and very skillfully, lying to others. Also, their sense of superficial charm causes
people to gravitate toward them. Psychopaths are also known for their lack of general remorse
and empathy for any wrongdoings they may commit. They are known to deny responsibility for
actions they commit, as well as maintaining a parasitic lifestyle; figuratively speaking they feed
off of those around them that can contribute to their desires. This condition, while it may seem
like it is extremely rare, this is only due to the fact that these people are very good at blending in
with normal people, making it hard to judge who is truly a psychopath. Narcissistic personality
disorder differs from psychopaths; however, there are also some similarities (Hare). One of these
similarities is the lack of empathy that they feel for negative actions they commit. The difference is
that they feel the need to be the center of attention, like they are the most important people among
their family and friends. They have negative attitudes toward those they feel are beneath them.
People who suffer from narcissistic personality disorder are often referred to as narcissists, or are
known to suffer from narcissism. These people are arrogant and often times, straight up snobbish to
those they see as less

Hay Bayler Problem Statement: you have five bales of hay that were weighed in all possible
combinations of two, 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 1 and 4, and so on. The weight combination was written
down without keeping track of which weight matched which pair of bales. The weights are 80, 82,
83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, and 91. You need to find out which two bales go with which weight and
how much bales 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 weigh. Are there more than 1 possibility. Process: my group first
did guess and check to try and solve the problem. First we thought that the bales had to be 40 50
because if you had 70+70 it would be out of the range of 80 90 by a lot. Our first guess was that
bale 1=42, 2=43, 3=44, 4=40, and bale 5=45. That didn t work so then we tried doing bale 1=42,
2=43, 3=41, 4=47, and bale 5=44. That also didn t work so then we thought. I thought that maybe
we had to give bales 1 and 2, 2 and 3, 3 and 4, and 4 and 5 one of the weights and see if it works.
We gave 1 and 2 85, 2 and 3 84, 3 and 4 88, and 4 and 5 91. It worked but when we tried to add 1
and 3, 2 and 5, and 1 and 4 it just fell apart. So that theory did not work. The whole class was

Circus Maximus Essay
Circus Maximus, Rome
Hazel Roudebush

Did you know that Circus Maximus could seat nearly a quarter of Rome s population? That s
why it was one of the biggest and best arenas in ancient Rome. It could seat 250,000 spectators,
and had 300,000 seats. It was HUGE, 2037 feet in length and 387 feet in width. It had a
circumference of a mile. It was situated between 2 hills, the Aventine and Palatine hills, and when it
started, spectators watched from there. It had its share of blood and difficulties, but it can t be
denied that Circus Maximus was awe inspiring.
The Circus Maximus was one of the best constructed buildings in ancient Rome, able to withstand a
lot! After burning down twice, It was reconstructed using concrete and marble, making it stronger
and more beautiful than ever (romeguide.it). It was originally made entirely of wood, making it
easier for it to catch fire or collapse, as it also did twice (romeguide.it). There was a separate
imperial box for the Emperor and the royal family, making it a more popular place with important
persons and the Emperor himself (tribunesandtriumphs.org). After its being reconstructed for the
second time by Trajan, Pliny the Younger stated that it rivaled even the beauty of the temples...

The Nature of King Lear Essay
The most prevailing images in King Lear are the images (metaphoric and actual) of nature. The
concept of nature seems to consume the dialogue, monologues, and setting.
It might be useful to view nature as `the natural order of the world (and, perhaps, the universe).
When one goes against the natural order, chaos will follow. Shakespeare has made this point clear

215).
As Regan and Goneril show their disdain and, thereby, expose their `natural selves to Lear, his
recognition of them and the wrong he did to Cordelia are also expressed with the language of nature
; of Cordelia he says, O most small fault, how ugly dids t thou in Cordelia show! That, like an
engine, wrenched my frame of nature from the fixed place (I.iv. 262 265). And when Lear realizes
that both Regan and Goneril have deceived him, he calls them unnatural hags (II.iv. 276).
Lear s actions of distributing his kingdom to his daughters (which in a patriarchal society such as
Lear s is against natural law) and his rashness of expelling Cordelia and wrongly rewarding Regan
and Goneril, were a violation and misreading of true nature which, from that point on, lead to the
destruction and death of Lear and his family.
The subplot in King Lear is of Gloucester and his sons Edmund and Edgar. Edmund, the
illegitimate, bastard son, can be seen as somehow unnatural according to the laws of society at that
time. Gloucester himself says to Kent, regarding Edgar, But I have, sir, a son by order of law... (I.i.
18). The subtext here is that Edmund s conception was outside the law and unnatural to the social
structure.
Like Lear, Gloucester fails to see the true nature of his children and also invokes the language of
nature in blind ways. After wrongly condemning Edgar he calls Edmund a loyal and natural boy
(II. i. 85).

ERD (Entity Relation Diagram)
2.1 History of ERD
An entity relationship model (ERM) is an abstract and conceptual representation of data. Entity
relationship modeling is a database modeling method, used to produce a type of conceptual
schema or semantic data model of a system, often a relational database, and its requirements in a
top down fashion. Diagrams created by this process are called entity relationship diagrams, ER
diagrams, or ERDs.
This technique was developed by PETER CHEN in 1976 since ... Show more content on

If an entity set participates in a relationship set, they are connected with a line.
Attributes are drawn as ovals and are connected with a line to exactly one entity or relationship set.
Cardinality constraints are expressed as follows: * A double line indicates a participation constraint,
totality or subjectivity: all entities in the entity set must participate in at least one relationship in the
relationship set; * an arrow from entity set to relationship set indicates a key constraint, i.e.
infectivity: each entity of the entity set can participate in at most one relationship in the
relationship set; * A thick line indicates both, i.e. objectivity: each entity in the entity set is
involved in exactly one relationship. * an underlined name of an attribute indicates that it is a key:
two different entities or relationships with this attribute always have different values for this
attribute.
Attributes are often omitted as they can clutter up a diagram; other diagram techniques often list
entity attributes within the rectangles drawn for entity sets. Chen s notation for entity relationship
modeling uses rectangles to represent entities, and diamonds to represent relationships appropriate
for first class objects: they can have attributes and relationships of their own.

The Cove, By Mark Monroe And Directed By Louis Psihoyos
Dogs are regarded as man s best friend, but in the sea, that title is claimed by dolphins. Humans
have long regarded dolphins as magical and friendly creatures. With their penchant for saving
humans from dire situations like shark encounters or drowning, and their friendly playfulness,
dolphins have certainly earned their reputation. The Cove is an award winning film written by
Mark Monroe and directed by Louis Psihoyos in which an investigation id made of the annual
carnage in Japan where hundreds of dolphins are dispatched in masses. Although it has been shown
that dolphins are sentient creatures, the Japanese government utilizes dubious ethic methods for
still participating in the destruction of dolphin populations.
Japan is renowned around the world for being an extremely prosperous nation despite being the only
populace to have been bombed by nuclear weapons. From that point on, the Japanese has
reinvigorated a more modern culture. But for the outcry of respect for traditional Japanese culture,
the coast local fishermen claim that their justification for hunting dolphins is that You eat cows.
Well, we eat dolphins (The Cove). The workers inform protestors that it is part of their culture to
partake in the production and consumption of dolphin meat. The fishermen clarify that dolphins in
Japan are like cows in the U.S. Just as the U.S. businesses cultivate farm animal agriculture as a
food source, the Japanese do so too. Therefore, the Japanese fishermen are

Euthanasia: Why It Should Be Legal
In the past, a doctor was a friend who treated the diseases. Now a doctor is a stranger who
combats diseases. Their job is not only to prevent death but also to improve the patient s quality
of life. Lots of times there is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a patient from dying if the patient
has a terminal disease; all they can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very
painful for both the patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the
request of the dying person is violating a person s rights, interfering with a doctor s job, and
increasing suffering.
First off, deciding if someone wants to be alive or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hospitals are just wasting time and money on a situation that won t get better. If the patient wants
euthanasia they deserve a quick and painless death. Doctors cannot end the huge amount of money
wasted on a treatment that won t help so why not alleviate some of those expenses from family
members and taxpayers.
Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. I am only doing what I,
as a physician, should do . (Kevorkian 170) It doesn t make sense that they can keep someone alive
without having the opportunity to ask that person if they want to be living like that. Many patients
now find themselves unable to live without machines that restrict their movements and often cause
different kinds of pain, and some may prefer not to live at all . (Marzilli 69) The doctor is just the
person who helps the patient to do what they desire.
Many would say what makes life sustaining treatment none beneficial or too big of a burden if it
can achieve its design of saving life. On the other hand, if death is in the best interests of some
patients if the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment can be said to be of benefit in this case then
death constitutes a moral good for these patients . (Doyal) Incompetent patients are unable to
benefit from further treatment or find it too large of a burden if they cannot benefit from being
alive any longer. When the continuing use of life sustaining treatment is to be of no benefit or of
too much burden, the doctor

I Left The Biotech Industry
I left the biotech industry in 1995 after working for five years as a biochemist. I was unhappy
working in a research laboratory all day with little interaction with people. One night I was
watching The Power of Myth program on Public Broadcasting Service TV channel where Bill
Moyers was interviewing Joseph Campbell. I heard Mr. Campbell repeat several times a
statement that resonated with me follow your bliss he said. For the next several months, it was
the only thing that I was thinking. Where is my bliss I kept wondering? My wife was pregnant
with my son, and I was stuck in a job that I did not like. Fortuitously, my lab director assigned me
to train a group of visiting biologists from England for a week on the use of the... Show more

I continued teaching for two more years until my daughter was born. During that time, I was
voted for three years in a row as Students favorite teacher. However, I grudgingly left teaching to
be able financially to support my growing family. I started an environmental consulting business
with my wife who is a biochemical engineer and was working as an environmental consultant for
a firm in Orange County. For the next eighteen years, I developed and managed a successful
company called Ecotek. Though, teaching was always on my mind and the part that I enjoyed
the most about Ecotek was the environmental training and the presentations that I did for my
clients. My three children are in college now, but four years ago I started hearing that inner voice
telling me to follow my bliss. I knew that I wanted to go back to teaching, so I took several
assignments as a substitute teacher to see if I have what it takes to be a good teacher. I found out
quickly that I want to teach and that I enjoy it, school administrators offered me several long term
substitute positions and soon enough, within a year, I left the business to my wife and started
teaching biology full time at Lynwood Unified School District. It has been four happy years since I
returned to the teaching profession. As a biology teacher at Firebaugh High School, I feel that

Arthur Miller s Life As It Compares To Death Of A Salesman
Arthur Miller s Life as it Compares to Death of a Salesman
The events of Arthur Miller s life likely had a large impact on his play Death of a Salesman. For
instance, in Miler s childhood, his father was the owner of a thriving coat making business, able to
provide more than enough money for the family to get by. However, the stock market crash and
subsequent depression caused Miller and his family to fall from their previously lush lifestyles.
They were all forced out of their home and never again reached their almost wealthy status. This
transition from success to being a poor family barely making enough money to get by might have
influenced the themes of an unachievable American dream that can be found in Death of a Salesman
. The sense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not unlikely that these men faced similar positions as Willy and struggled to achieve the
dream that had been promised to them. Although being a salesman no longer holds the appeal
that it once did, the idea of somehow achieving that big dream everyone aspires to through hard
work still persists. Not only does it persist, it s prevalent in many social groups today. For
example, many students work as hard as possible in high school and college in order to be able
to secure success for their futures, not unlike how Willy worked his life away as a salesman
trying to reach success. However, much like Willy, some people just won t reach their dreams
no matter how hard they work. Some people will work their hardest to get a degree only to be
left unemployed and in debt, a similar scene to Willy s inability to be a successful salesman.
Furthermore, no matter the time or place, society consistently has held some goal above the
head of the masses, saying that if you only work a little harder than you can reach it. It s a
similar message as the ones we tell children: You can do anything you set your mind to. Often
times, however, that is not the case. People like Willy Loman can set their mind to a task and be
as determined and willing as possible and still end up fired with no friends, their only comfort a
hefty life insurance check. It s tragic because it s a very human struggle. Willy was a normal
man, similar to many others despite time or place, who just wanted to be successful and liked.
This is something that most, in not all, people want in life. The problem arises when, like Willy,
the need to reach the dream evolves into an unhealthy obsession which ruins relationships with
loved ones and leaves one feeling like a failure. That is not a problem Willy Loman faced alone.
Today, as much as the day the play

Effective Co Operation And Co Ordination Among Professionals
Effective co operation and co ordination among professionals will put patient at the centre of
everything thereby implementing a person centered approach. This is a way of organising and
delivering care around the individual. Working in a person centered way will include the use of
putting people first (Department of Health, 2007). This is to build a personalised care and support
around the patient s needs by enhancing them to adopt a healthy lifestyle and to be able to self
managed their condition. Good communication is essential at all times when dealing with diabetic
patient. Information should be given to the patient in a consistent manner and shared amongst other
professionals involved in the care. Effective communication and shared decision making among
professionals is paramount to providing care for diabetes patients. Good co ordination will help
towards continuity of care (Bower et al, 2013). Lorig et al. (2012) further recommend that people
with diabetes should always wear an emergency bracelet or carry an emergency card in their wallet
which should have information about the medication currently taking, doctor s contact details and
an emergency contact details. Insulin or tablets should always be with a diabetic patient at all times.

The s Fashion Forward Neighborhood Of Soho
After a long day of working retail in Manhattan s fashion forward neighborhood of Soho, going
home tends to be the best part of my day. I usually take the length of my fifteen minute walk
home to decompress, reflect upon my day and enjoy the solitude. I imagine the shoppers who
heavily populated the streets earlier in the day cozying up in their chic, chandelier adorned high
rises, furnished with a coffee table stacked with vintage editions of Vogue, blogging about their
most recent fashion finds. Recently, as I mindlessly admired the window displays of the shops
lining Broadway, I noticed that the large windows of Bebe were barren; not because a new
window display was being installed, but because they had closed this particular location,
indefinitely. Although, I haven t purchased clothing from Bebe in over a decade, I couldn t help
but feel nostalgic about my pre teen years. I specifically remembered a hot pink, terry cloth,
cropped hoodie from Bebe that I adored. Ten years ago, I, like most people, did not care about how
tacky I looked, I only cared about flaunting the bedazzled Bebe logoproudly across my chest. As a
pre teen girl in the early 2000 s, obtaining your own article of rhinestone adorned Bebe clothing
was like a rite of passage into your teenage years. Now, obtaining your first basic black tee from
Topshop is considered the norm. One can only assume that if Bebe cannot afford a storefront in
Soho, their sales might not be doing as well as they used to. For

From 1850 to 1930 Sweden lived deep changes, but all social improvements occurred with

founded the Ministerial Party with the objective to defend the reforms. A little group of people
created the Neoliberal Party that proposed both economic freedom and more cultural and political
freedoms (such as more rights for women and an increasing democracy). In any event the
dominant party was the Rural Men s Party. It defended the farmer interests, even if the Rural Men
s Party had some liberal elements. Indeed it wanted reduce the taxes and give more power to

The Degradation Of Solar Cell
Solar Cell Degradation in Space Abstract:
This paper will present the degradation of solar cell performance when exposed to solar wind in
space, particularly in the Van Allen belt region. Also, solar cell theory is mathematically
modeled and described using Matlab simulation software accompanied by the SRIM software to
generate the targeting data. Follow with the degradation modeling of Si, InGaP/GaAs/Ge triple
junction space solar cells when are exposed to high energy charged particles, especially protons
and electrons in the Mega electron Volt range. In this model, carrier removal rate of the base layer
and damage coefficient of minority carrier diffusion length in each sub cell are considered as
radiation degradation parameters. In addition, this paper will present the status of high radiation
resistant solar cells made from Si, InGaP/GaAs/Ge for space application to guarantee the successful
operation of the satellite.

Gender Roles In Colonial America
Gender Roles in Colonial America
Gender Roles were very important in Colonial America. Nowadays, young women are taught that
they could grow up and be whatever they want but it wasn t always this way. In Colonial times
women were limited in what they could do or even say. Although they had limitations, without the
roles they played many people wouldn t have survived. Gender Roles were passed from generation
to generation with many limitations for women. Despite these limitations, many women were
comfortable in their roles. The lifestyles of these women have directly impacted today s society in
the form of the feminist movement.
Gender Roles were forced upon people at a young age. Fathers would teach their sons how to be a

On the contrary, some argue that women not only felt fulfilled by their roles in Colonial America,
but they even enjoyed them. They were not as impotent as they are made out to be. Without a
higher understanding of the Puritan culture, misconceptions have been made about the treatment of
women. Many women enjoyed their household tasks and cherished their time spent caring for
children. Post 1960s feminism has painted these women as miserable, oppressed, and discriminated
against. In her essay Leora Hall highlights a fact that many people may not know, Women were also
not required to submit to all men. A womanwas only called to submit to the decisions made by her
own husband, (Understanding Puritan Womanhood in Feminist America). Submission was a
common Puritan belief. The submission of a wife was apart of the divine will. The submission
of a wife was to honor her husband s role as the leader of the house, not to demean her or treat her
as a slave. Puritan relationships were built on love, which most often stems from respect. There
were no arranged marriages and couples courted before marriage. Courtship helped the couple test
the relationship and see if it had the potential to last. Most puritan women respected and loved their
husbands deeply, making it no problem for them to submit to them. Many say that Anne Bradstreet
was among these women. Her poem To My Dear and Loving Husband shows the depth of her love
and admiration for her

Team Leader Research Paper
Team Leader Paper Summary Of the many different kinds of leadership, I think the one that rest
describes me would be, participative leadership . At least, thats what I try to be. I m not really a
hard type A personality or anything and really enjoy hearing what others have to think and say
about whats going on and how to best do something. In general, This type of leadership helps to
bring more of a team spirit, and boosts the morale among the workers; probably because it gives
each person an equal chance to voice his or her option about any decision made. This type of
leadership is good for the peer clinical setting that we are working in, as it promotes good working
relationships and a healthy learning environment. There was a total of five students at Dyersburg

Once these characteristics have been outlined and briefly discussed, emphasis will be placed upon
one specific health improvement issue.
Justification of the local area
For this specific community profile the chosen geographical area is Hartlepool. The writer felt
this to be an appropriate choice as it is a local area and could well be somewhere they work in their
future career in paediatric nursing.
Definition of a community
A body of individuals who have a sense of common identity may be defined as a community
(Slack, 1998). A community is also described as having similar attitudes or interests in common:
the people of a district or country considered collectively, especially in the context of social values
or responsibilities; society: a group of people living in the same place or having certain
characteristics in common (Oxford Dictionary, 2013). The purpose of a community profile is to
provide a more in depth understanding of a community and its characteristics.
Population level within Hartlepool and the UK
Hartlepool Council (2015) stated that the current population level within the local area stands at
approximately 98,000 residents (Bramley, no date). This number is somewhat higher than in
previous years with the population standing at 86,713 in 2010 (Public Health England 2015). This
shows that between 2010 and 2015 the population increased by 13% (Public health England, 2015).

  • 3. Analysis Of Victor SпїЅjeur s The Mulatto Victor SГ©jeur s The Mulatto Published in 1837 in France by Victor Sejeur, The Mulatto is a graphic representation of both the physical violence occurring during the life of an enslaved person in St. Domingue. The American expatriate SГ©jeur was unencumbered by the limitations experienced by mid 19th century black authors in the United States and could freely express the violent reality of a society based in a slave economy. The story of Georges, the son of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, is told by an elderly narrator during the time after the slave rebellion to the unnamed narrator visiting St. Domingue for the first time. The Mulatto is an examination of the violence inherent in a society based upon slavery and the reverberation of that violence. SГ©jeur specifically focuses on how the violence of a society based upon a slave economy pervasively impacts the societal unit of the family and includes violence committed by the oppressors on the oppressed as well as the violent reaction of those that have had their family and humanity mutually devastated. The frame narrative structure of The Mulatto frames the violence occurring in the life of Georges during the time before abolition within an external contextual frame of his story being told during post slavery St. Domingue. The tone of simmering anger and violence in the elderly narrator as he addresses the original narrator as Master and then proceeds to describe how the master would do better to have a ... (Keenan K., 1995, e.g. 60) Everyone at least once asked themselves: What I am doing now? , Where will it bring me? , How can it help me to reach my target? . These questions have always accompanied me and help to understand what I want and what is my goal. • 7. Determining Lodging Tolerance Are Mostly Taken Around Bud... Measurements to determine lodging tolerance are mostly taken around bud to mid bloom stage (Johnson et al. 2008). They reported two methods used in carrying out these measurements and subsequent rating; 1) spaced plants trial and 2) solid seeded plots. In the spaced plant method, rating was done based on the percentage of erect stems within plant rows while in the solid seeded plots method, plots were rated based on percentage of erect stem within the plot. Different methods have been adopted to tackle lodging. Some of them include soil quality improvement, good management practice (HCGA 2005) cultivation of dwarf varieties, and introduction of lodging resistant varieties (Prairie Grains 2005). Hasnath and Jahan (2013) investigated the lodging resistance of different genotypes of hard wheat. They noted that some genotypes (Pradiv, Akbar, Gourav, and Shatabdi) had higher lodging resistance than others (Bijoy, Sufi, Shourav, Barkat, Prativa, and Balaka,). Kong et al. (2013) reported that the solid stemmed wheat genotypes are more resistant than the hollow stemmed genotypes. The difference was because the solid stemmed wheat having more mechanical support tissues as well as a wider stem wall. On the other hand, Crook and Ennos (1994) work on the lodging resistance of four winter wheat cultivars revealed that the lodging resistance was independent of stiffness of the stem but rather was related to the height of the stem. They recommended shorter stem plants with widespread ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Damnation of a Canyon Essay Strong Response: The Damnation of a Canyon In the reading The Damnation of a Canyon, the author, Edward Abbey, described his outlook on the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Throughout his reading, he emphasized many positives the Glen Canyon Dam once had. The text revealed Abbey believing the nature that Glen Canyon used to contain and how people didn t appreciate it. He used his perspectives of when he worked as a park ranger before all the changes happened. He strongly believed in nature. He felt that he supported his argument with facts and his personal opinions. He provided situations for people to acknowledge like the cost, adventure that people could be experienced, and the trip that can be safe and easier than a powerboat tour of the reservoir. I think he appeared to be trustworthy of his own words because he gave us elements of nature. Agreeing with Abbey does have a lot of appalling outlooks. There are people that will go against his argument since his resources seem to only come from his personal experience. I will agree with Abbey because every day people are killing nature like there is no tomorrow. People are taking advantage of what nature gave us. Every where you turn, natural habitat are being disturbed just for some lousy houses. Abbey is trying to convince people to be on his side with nature. He described before the damnation that there were springs, sometimes flowing streams, waterfalls and plunge pools. Abbey gave us an illustration how the dam looked and it was filled with songbirds: vireos, warblers, mockingbirds, and thrushes and larger mammals mule deer, coyote, bobcat, ring tailed cat, gray fox, kit fox, skunk, badgersВ… He argued nature was killed during the process of building the reservoir. This argument probably brought many people s attention to agree or disagree with him. Abbey represented the environmentalists to help grow the anti dam movement. If I had the chance to do the movement then I will help and support it. He also argued people that doesn t appreciate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay on Causes of World War I World War One, also known as The Great War and The First Modern War was a very large scale war lasting over four years, involving nations from around the world and ultimately killing more than twenty million people. The cause of this war cannot be accredited to one single event but rather an assassination of a nation s leader and many political philosophies including militarism, nationalism, imperialism and the formation of alliances. On Sunday June twenty eighth 1914 in Sarajevo Bosnia the Archduke of Austria Hungary, Francis Ferdinand, was shot and killed by an eighteen year old Bosnian Serb nationalist by the name of Gavrilo Princip. Many European nations had colonies which helped to gather raw materials from foreign places and extend their rule among others. France and Britain had many colonies in parts on north Africa and Asia but Germany and Italy did not. They wanted to be a colonial empire as well fueling the fight for colonies among these four nations. The alliances of this war are what made it a World War . Before the war there were two main alliances and they were the Triple Alliance consisting of Germany, Austria Hungary and Italy and the Triple Entente which had Britain, France and Russia. This all changed when Ferdinand was murdered. Austria declared war on Serbia, causing Russia to declare war on Austria. Through Germany s ties with Austria they then declared war on Russia. France had previously agreed to help Russia so Germany declared war on France. Later when Germany invaded Belgium, Britain declared war on Germany due to its ties with Belgium. Italy then eventually joined Britain, France and Russia. America was later brought into the war in 1917 by its connections with England. So during the war the alliance systems changed to the Central Powers consisting of Germany, Austria Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire and the Allied Powers which were Britain, France, Russia, Serbia, United States and, Japan to a small degree. • 11. Great War Dbq Essay There were many underlying causes of the Great War, one of the primary reasons was the creation of alliances between countries. Another reason, which was helped by the alliances, was the fact that Serbia killed the Austria Hungary archduke, causing the two of them to go to war. Altogether many people in the world were excited to go to war, wanting to prove how strong their country is and thinking it would be a quick war. Even before the war started there were plotting and alliances made. Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy made the triple alliance (Doc D), and the United Kingdom, France, and Russia formed the Triple Entente (Doc D). If another country would attack one of the countries in one of these alliances the other countries would employ all their forces to help, beginning an all out battle (Doc E). Which is defined as a kind of thinking in which maintaining group cohesiveness and solidarity is more important than considering the facts in a realistic manner . This theory first came about from Ivering Janis. He belived there had to be certain criteria met for group think to be likely to occur. Some criteria are things such as group cohesion or having a distinct leader. Recen re evaluate of janis s has shown that group think occurs more often then original thought and all criteria does not have to be apperent for it to occur. The jury in twelve angry men did exibit signs that were common when group think was apparent. In the beginning majority of the men wanted to come to a decision quickly they felt the young boy was guilty and didn t want to waist there time. So we can assume the group was mostly unified in there opinions. As well the men were isolated from outside opinion. You can even assume there is a group leader, although there was never really a distinct leader a couple men were very opinionated and made there thoughts heard. Next is is said that to create groupthink there needs to be a supposed threat . while the majority voted guilty there was one man who voted not guilty. We can see as a threat because many of the jury members tried to convince him to conform to the groups verdict. The group was very hostile towards the man that disagreed with the majority. He was renowned for his ideas on the end of religion, existentialism and the concept of good and evil. Nietzsche focused essentially on the end of religion. He once declared that God is dead , a statement that decidedly defied Christianity as well as morality. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, he was rapt in the development of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity, power, and down to earth realities, rather than those situated in a world beyond . Nietzsche s work inspired the likes of famed psychologist such as Sigmund Freud as well as other philosophers. • 15. The Telegraph Research Paper The telegraph not only united the nation with access to quicker communication, it was also the foundation for advanced technology like computers and phones. It took many physicists, inventors, scientists, and others to do research and experiments that lead to the telegraph an invention that would change the world forever. In the 1780s, galvanism was unintentionally discovered by Luigi Galvani while he was doing experiments in animal physiology. Galvanism is an electric current made when two metals and a moist environment come into contact. Hans Christian Oersted made a discovery that a magnetized needle could be moved by an electric current. This was an important step toward the telegraph by varying the current with electromagnets, a message could be sent through a wire! William... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He developed a telegraph that could send signals for over a mile. William F. Cooke and Charles Wheatstone constructed a telegraph that used 5 needles and 5 wires, then 2 needles and wires, and finally one needle and wire. The first practical telegraph, however, was made in 1837 by Samuel F. B. Morse. The making of his telegraph was thanks to all the research that took place for over decades. In November of 1832, Morse built his first model of the telegraph. The telegraph used a portrule to turn the electric current s flow on and off. His original code was number sequences each particular sequence representing a word. By 1835, his improved model was larger and on it was a small picture frame that held a pencil. The electromagnets would move the pencil to make dots and dashes on paper tape. A dot would be made by a smaller amount of electric current, while a dash is a larger amount. Morse started working with Leonard Gale, a chemistry professor, in 1836. Gale helped to upgrade the electromagnet and battery to allow messages to be sent farther. On Sep. 2, ... Can you imagine a similar situation occurring today? Explain why or why not. a)I feel like this situation is quite common in relationships. A man or woman goes out with someone just because they know that person is a good person at heart. They believe they love them, but it is their qualities the love, not the person as a whole and definitely not for the right reasons. Relationships like this never last, because the person is always choosing other things over their loved one. Gambling is a perfect example for this scenario. A person may choose gambling over the person they love, because in fact they love gambling more than the person itself, and therefore cannot stop gambling and will put nothing above it. 7. • 20. Vittorio De Sico And Italian Neorealism The average outing to the local movie theater is a pleasant experience; a show of laughs and drama and romance, wrapped into a satisfying plot to be quickly forgotten by the transient audience. The experiences of the Second World War, especially in Italy, forced the artistic film industry to grow jaded quickly. Italian Neorealism, a film movement at odds with the conventional cinematic experience, finds it somewhat inappropriate to have idealized heroes achieve happily ever after lives after so many did not in the grim reality of the war. Vittorio De Sicaand Cesare Zavattiniwere pioneers of the movement, which (although not the first) is best exemplified by Umberto D., released in Italy in 1952, and after a slow commercial reception, released abroad and in the U.S. in 1955. It features an old man and his dog as they struggle to survive in the tough reality of the Italian postwar city. The film was hailed by critics as a shining example of the maturity and emotional power of realism. In a world of fabricated Hollywood plots, critics all over the world in the 1950s relished the uncompromising candor of the neorealist film Umberto D., while the commercial reception clearly shows that the mass audience preferred the purified filters of non realist cinema. Cesare Zavattini, the co writer of Umberto D. and many other films with De Sica, gave an interview in 1952 in which he outlined the theory and essence of Italian Neorealism. He deplored the practice of inventing banal and contrived plots, calling it superimposing dead formulas over living social facts (Zavattini). If a story is death to Zavattini, reality is life. He sees real life as a rich mine of content with no sparkling additives necessary; a simple everyday action can be dissected and investigated to reveal a greater truth about the reality of the situation. Poverty is the main subject for neorealist films, and Zavattini justifies this by saying he features poverty because it is the most important contemporary reality of the people. Neorealist films do not use professional actors either; the title character in Umberto D. was played by a university professor with no acting experience. This adds to the realism by having people who actually face the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role of Inhibitory Modulation of Languages among Bilinguals In a rich linguistic environment, where more than 7000 languages are spoken in 149 countries, multilingualism and bilingualism are inevitable (Crystal, 2003; Grosjean, 2010). While the causes of increased bilingualism and multilingualism can vary, the repercussions of this demographic shift are wide reaching (O Brien, Curtin, Naqvi, 2014). Consequently, research on bilingualism and multilingualism has also dramatically increased in the last few years in quantity, quality and breadth (Bhatia William, 2013). In the past two decades, series of discoveries has changed the way bilingualism was understood (Kroll, Bobb, Hoshino, 2014). The consequences of bilingualism are not limited to native and second language but appear to reflect reorganization of brain networks that hold implications for the ways in which bilinguals negotiate cognitive competition more generally. The bilingual experience for every individual is unique as it depends upon the context, linguistic proficiency, and purpose. There is also a great variability in the amount and quality of exposure to the languages that the individual learns. Due to this capriciousness in bilingual characteristics, defining bilingualism becomes problematic and raises number of theoretical and methodological concerns (Hamers Blanc, 2000). This fact is very cleverly illustrated by Raphael s School of Athens (1510 11; Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican), where Plato is portrayed looking up to the higher forms; and Aristotleis pointing down because he supports the natural sciences. In a discussion of politics, the stand point of each philosopher becomes an essential factor. It is not coincidental that Plato states in The Republic that Philosopher Rulers who possess knowledge of the good should be the governors in a city state. His strong interest in metaphysics is demonstrated in The Republic various times: for example, the similes of the cave, the sun, and the line, and his theory of the forms. Because he is so involved in metaphysics, his views on politics are more theoretical as opposed to actual. Aristotle, contrarily, holds the view that politics is the art of ruling and being ruled in turn. In The Politics, he attempts to outline a way of governing that would be ideal for an actual state. Balance is a main word in discussing Aristotle because he believes it is the necessary element to creating a stable government. • 35. Characteristics Of A Personality Disorder Psychopathy is condition in which an individual has a wide array of negative personality traits. The trait that stands out the most is that they enjoy the suffering of others, as well as compulsively, and very skillfully, lying to others. Also, their sense of superficial charm causes people to gravitate toward them. Psychopaths are also known for their lack of general remorse and empathy for any wrongdoings they may commit. They are known to deny responsibility for actions they commit, as well as maintaining a parasitic lifestyle; figuratively speaking they feed off of those around them that can contribute to their desires. This condition, while it may seem like it is extremely rare, this is only due to the fact that these people are very good at blending in with normal people, making it hard to judge who is truly a psychopath. Narcissistic personality disorder differs from psychopaths; however, there are also some similarities (Hare). One of these similarities is the lack of empathy that they feel for negative actions they commit. The difference is that they feel the need to be the center of attention, like they are the most important people among their family and friends. They have negative attitudes toward those they feel are beneath them. People who suffer from narcissistic personality disorder are often referred to as narcissists, or are known to suffer from narcissism. The weight combination was written down without keeping track of which weight matched which pair of bales. The weights are 80, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, and 91. You need to find out which two bales go with which weight and how much bales 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 weigh. Are there more than 1 possibility. Process: my group first did guess and check to try and solve the problem. First we thought that the bales had to be 40 50 because if you had 70+70 it would be out of the range of 80 90 by a lot. Our first guess was that bale 1=42, 2=43, 3=44, 4=40, and bale 5=45. That didn t work so then we tried doing bale 1=42, 2=43, 3=41, 4=47, and bale 5=44. That also didn t work so then we thought. I thought that maybe we had to give bales 1 and 2, 2 and 3, 3 and 4, and 4 and 5 one of the weights and see if it works. We gave 1 and 2 85, 2 and 3 84, 3 and 4 88, and 4 and 5 91. It worked but when we tried to add 1 and 3, 2 and 5, and 1 and 4 it just fell apart. So that theory did not work. The whole class was having trouble so we did it all together. Our teacher gave us each a number 36 48. I got the number 39. So I started with 39+41=40, then 39+43=82. Then I did 41+43=84 I kept doing it till I found the answer. That s why it was one of the biggest and best arenas in ancient Rome. It could seat 250,000 spectators, and had 300,000 seats. It was HUGE, 2037 feet in length and 387 feet in width. It had a circumference of a mile. It was situated between 2 hills, the Aventine and Palatine hills, and when it started, spectators watched from there. It had its share of blood and difficulties, but it can t be denied that Circus Maximus was awe inspiring. The Circus Maximus was one of the best constructed buildings in ancient Rome, able to withstand a lot! After burning down twice, It was reconstructed using concrete and marble, making it stronger and more beautiful than ever (romeguide.it). It was originally made entirely of wood, making it easier for it to catch fire or collapse, as it also did twice (romeguide.it). There was a separate imperial box for the Emperor and the royal family, making it a more popular place with important persons and the Emperor himself (tribunesandtriumphs.org). • 40. The Nature of King Lear Essay The most prevailing images in King Lear are the images (metaphoric and actual) of nature. The concept of nature seems to consume the dialogue, monologues, and setting. It might be useful to view nature as `the natural order of the world (and, perhaps, the universe). When one goes against the natural order, chaos will follow. Shakespeare has made this point clear in Troilus and Cressida where Ulysses predicts that once the specialty of rule hath been neglected disaster will follow, for take but degree away, untune that string, and hark what discord follows (I.iii). As Regan and Goneril show their disdain and, thereby, expose their `natural selves to Lear, his recognition of them and the wrong he did to Cordelia are also expressed with the language of nature ; of Cordelia he says, O most small fault, how ugly dids t thou in Cordelia show! That, like an engine, wrenched my frame of nature from the fixed place (I.iv. 262 265). And when Lear realizes that both Regan and Goneril have deceived him, he calls them unnatural hags (II.iv. 276). Lear s actions of distributing his kingdom to his daughters (which in a patriarchal society such as Lear s is against natural law) and his rashness of expelling Cordelia and wrongly rewarding Regan and Goneril, were a violation and misreading of true nature which, from that point on, lead to the destruction and death of Lear and his family. The subplot in King Lear is of Gloucester and his sons Edmund and Edgar. Edmund, the illegitimate, bastard son, can be seen as somehow unnatural according to the laws of society at that time. Gloucester himself says to Kent, regarding Edgar, But I have, sir, a son by order of law... (I.i. 18). The subtext here is that Edmund s conception was outside the law and unnatural to the social structure. Like Lear, Gloucester fails to see the true nature of his children and also invokes the language of nature in blind ways. If an entity set participates in a relationship set, they are connected with a line. Attributes are drawn as ovals and are connected with a line to exactly one entity or relationship set. Cardinality constraints are expressed as follows: * A double line indicates a participation constraint, totality or subjectivity: all entities in the entity set must participate in at least one relationship in the relationship set; * an arrow from entity set to relationship set indicates a key constraint, i.e. infectivity: each entity of the entity set can participate in at most one relationship in the relationship set; * A thick line indicates both, i.e. objectivity: each entity in the entity set is involved in exactly one relationship. * an underlined name of an attribute indicates that it is a key: two different entities or relationships with this attribute always have different values for this attribute. Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. I am only doing what I, as a physician, should do . For example, many students work as hard as possible in high school and college in order to be able to secure success for their futures, not unlike how Willy worked his life away as a salesman trying to reach success. However, much like Willy, some people just won t reach their dreams no matter how hard they work. Some people will work their hardest to get a degree only to be left unemployed and in debt, a similar scene to Willy s inability to be a successful salesman. Furthermore, no matter the time or place, society consistently has held some goal above the head of the masses, saying that if you only work a little harder than you can reach it.
