Lion Research Papers
The King of the Jungle is a really big, powerful cat that is probably the most famous member of
the cat family and it s the stronger cat on the family. The lion is known for it s big, silencing
roar, which puts fear in their prey s eyes. Lions can live in cool temperatures, while also being
able to live in the heat of desert areas. They don t like to live in big forests, such as rain forest.
Most of them live woodlands, grassy plains, and areas with thorny scrub trees. Lions tend to live
where they find food, mainly antelope, deer, zebra, and they also live where they have a place to
drink, like streams and nearby rivers.
These kings of the jungle can weigh between 250 and 550 pounds, depending on sex and age and
can grow up to be forteen years old in the wild and over the age of twenty years old in captivity
(Lions). A male lions usually weighs 350 to 400 pounds, but some can get up to 550pounds. Most
males get about 9 feet long from the nose to the end of the tail. Lionesses, or females, are smaller
than males. They weigh only 250 to 300 pounds, and they are about a foot shorter.
Male lions are the only cats with manes. The mane covers the head and the neck, down to the
shoulder and the chest area. It is a long, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of their pride. While they will participate in hunting, they spend the majority of their time on
security patrols. They will defend their pride s territory, which can cover up about 100 square
miles. Females are primarily responsible for hunting, which typically occurs after dark. They are
also the primary caregivers for lion cubs. The eating hierarchy is males first, followed by females

Premarital Cohabitation And Premarital Marriage
To Be or Not to Be
Feeling the excitement of moving boxes from a car into a new building apartment. A boyfriend
standing in the middle of the bed room floor trying to decide where the dresser should be placed,
and who gets which drawers. The girlfriend staring at a blank wall visualizing how to decorate to
make it more home feeling for the both of them. The couple is smiling from the happiness knowing
that the relationship is advancing to the next stage which is moving in together. This, my friends, is
an ideal scenario of moving into an apartment with your significant other before marriage, which is
known as premarital cohabitation. Some couples participate in premarital cohabitation which is
becoming part of a lifestyle for younger couples. Students that are in college, or young adults
around 20 to 30, and even students that just graduated high school are moving in together. Couples
who participate in premarital cohabitation, affect the divorce rate, involved in premarital sex and
is allowing the couple to see if they have a good quality and stable relationship, and if they are
compatible for each other.
Premarital Cohabitation Couple who participate in premarital cohabitation is becoming apart of a
lifestyle for younger couples. In the example below nearly 2/3 of newlyweds have cohabited prior
to their first marriage. Since the 90 s premarital cohabitation with one s spouse is not related to
martial instability. To be honest, I am actually living with my boyfriend.

Analysis of Case Study on Salix Pharmaceuticals
Analysis of Case Study on Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc Founded by two mutual acquaintances and
former staff members of California Biotechnology Inc. (CalBio), Lorin Johnson and Randy
Hamilton set out to build a company specializing in a specific area of need, such as inflammatory
bowel disease. Their search throughout the international landscape was focused on the chemical
compounds that would be the foundation for therapeutic drugs that serve as a benefit to the
management gastric disorders. As these compounds were discovered by way of research, with the
intent to align and contract with already licensed agreements if the price allows for the newly

(Kyriazis and Swayne) Salix required supplementary funds in 1996 to endure its testing activities,
requiring the team to go public on the Toronto Stock exchange allowing them to raise $10 million.
During the same time period, Salix acknowledged a second compound, rifaximin, and licensed its
privileges from an Italian company, Alfa Wassermann. Then not too far off, balsalazidedisodium
was approved in Europe; and Astra began endorsing it in Europe under the brand name COLAZIDE.
Interestingly enough, there were some influences in the external environment that would affect the
relationship with Astra. Much like other industries in 1990s and early 2000s, the pharmaceutical
industry responded to the challenges of globalization and smaller companies merged to form large
conglomerates to create worldwide strength. (Kyriazis and Swayne) Astra merged with Zeneca,
increasing the international exposure of the new merger as the seventh largest pharmaceutical
company in the world. In such a situation, AstraZeneca had Colazide low on their list of priorities
and attempted to return the licensing to Salix. This would require some adjustments and avoidance
of legal implications on the part of AstraZeneca, which led to their payment of Salix s full contract
and lending for acquisition of another partner. This opportunity led to several dealings that would
result in Shire Pharmaceuticals purchasing the rights to Europe and Salix to

The Danger Of Faith By Nathanial Hawthorne
The Danger of Faith Many remember Young Goodman Brown as the classic tale of a young
idealistic Puritan and his brush with the devil. This classic allegory by Nathanial Hawthorne, led
him to be considered the founder of the modern short story. (Kellan) This story explores the
relationship between faith, destiny and the evilness of mankind. It also exposes the hypocrisy of
those who are considered the most righteous, and what can happen when a person s ideals are
shattered. There is a lot of symbolism found in this short story. The symbolism between his wife
Faith and his spiritual faith is very obvious and it does not take a great leap of imagination to
connect the two. Brown has only been married for three months which could signify that he has
only recently thought of his place in heaven as secure. (Connolly) Brown also believes that faith is
his way to heaven; this is shown when he bargains with himself that once he finishes this one evil
errand he will follow her to heaven. The relationship between Brown and the forest is one of a
curious Human exploring the world of sin. His errand is never specified in the text, but he
essentially goes looking for the devil. He even states that Faith kept me back a while. This shows
some reluctance, but faith is still not enough to keep him from his task. Often in fiction the forest
is regarded as a dark evil place full of terror and mystery. It makes sense that Brown would go to
such a place for his mysterious walk

Summary Of Wuthering Heights

Summer Reading
Wuthering Heights
1). I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself...He is a dark
skinned gypsy in aspect, in dress and manners a gentleman, that is, as much a gentleman as many
a country squire: rather slovenly, perhaps, yet not looking amiss with his negligence, because he
has an erect and handsome figure and rather morose... I know, by instinct, his reserve springs
from an aversion to showy displays of feeling to manifestations of mutual kindliness. He ll love
and hate, equally under cover, and esteem it a species of impertinence to be loved or hated again.
(BrontГ« 3 6) ~~ This passage from Wuthering Heightsdescribes the mysterious Heathcliff, and his
character and intentions. The passage conveys two different views regarding Mr. Heathcliff, a
gypsy and a gentleman view. The thoughts of the reader just beginning to enter into Wuthering
Heights as a novel and the thoughts of Lockwood trying to find out what the place is like are
almost identical. Like Lockwood, readers of the novel confront all sorts of strange scenes and
characters Heathcliff the strangest of them all. People that have sundry villainous old guns and a
couple of horse pistols do give a gypsy feel. On the other hand Mr. Heathcliff is , in dress and
manners a gentleman with a erect and handsome figure (BrontГ« 5 6). The question then arises, is
Mr. Heathcliff a gentleman figure or a gypsy figure.

Lowell Mill Research Paper
19 5 2000 The Lowell Mill Experiment In the early nineteenth century, F.C. Lowell and Nathan
Appleton lead to the creation of a mechanized and water powered system that could transform raw
cotton to woven material. This system was names the Lowell Mills . In order to protect their
agrarian ways, this textile industry was based of manual labors, which lead to the use women as
their primary work force. Unlike in the past, women were able to work in an area away from home
and, though significant, this small difference lead to big changes. Slowly but surely the textile
industry increased individuality amongst women and although the Doctrine of Separate Spheres (a
representation of the differences between men and women socially and economically)... Show more

These problems actually led to the involvement in politics for women. Not too long after women
started joining the mills, the conditions began to rapidly deteriorate due to the depressed
economy that was caused by the creation of rivaling textile mills. The comfort that enticed the
women was now gone. The workload was increased, wages (already less than those of men) were
lowered, dormitory rents were raised, and the mills became a more stressful and more unsafe
place to work, these setbacks caused some workers to leave, but the rest stayed back and by
1834 went on a strike, opposing the heads of the industry for taking away what they were
promised. Sometimes the heads of the industry would turn the women down, but they were
persistent and sometimes it paid off. An example of this is when the women struck in order to
reduce the amount of time they worked; The heads of the industry made the average worker
work for twelve to fourteen hours a day but after two strikes and protests they were able to
reduce the work time to eleven hours a day. (Used this because I m not too sure I paraphrased
this properly). Along with strikes certain women rose above the rest as political figures. A well
known woman of sorts was Sarah Bagley; she was a fiery labor activist who organized the Female
Labor reform Association and led them in their fight to

The Coolest Cooler s Hot Cooler
The Coolest Cooler is marketed as the 21st Century Cooler that s Actually Cooler . This product
started on Kickstarter where an idea turned into a fund raising project. Ryan Grepper became an
entrepreneur from the Coolest Cooler. The Coolest Cooler project through Kickstarter demonstrates
tribes, the democratization of social media, the values of a salesperson, and the power of context.
Kickstarter is a form of an electronic tribe. Kickstarter is a website where any hopeful entrepreneur
can launch their ideas in the hope of raising enough money to meet their goal. If their goal is not
met in the time period, the money is returned to the backers. Professors Tyrone Adams and
Stephen Smith emphasizes tribes that work together, sharing a common belief, comparable to
how Kickstarter links people together to become a part of a movement of the specific project.
They are throngs of people dedicated to an idea, purpose, function, or even a way of being
(Adams and Smith 14). The backers donate money to the business because they all believe in the
project. Ryan Grepper, the creator of the Coolest Cooler, job is to get people to join his tribe by
buying his product. Additionally, for people to believe and enjoy the product just as much as he
does. Kickstarter caters to electronic tribes because it brings together a community through
technology.

The Importance Of Transfer Between Cells
Though the previous experiment does indicate that when a seed is inserted into a cell it can form
amyloid fibers, it fails to include parameters that describe how these proteins are transferred
between cells. In order for an infectious agent to become infectious it must have a method for not
only leaving the host cell but also entering a non infected cell. A study lead by Christian MГјnch
set out to show the pathway that a prionlike proteinin an amyloid fiber can transfer between cells.
The first test that was done in this study was to grow cells in a media containing a mutant SOD1
(a common ALS causing protein) granule coated fibrils. These fibrils were labeled with Dylight
dyes and when examined the majority of the grown cells were... Show more content on

One clear example of how mutations in the Prion like domains can affect the protein is shown in
a study done by James Shorter and J. Paul Taylor, continuing the research of Hong Joo Kim et al.
During the original research, mutations were found in the PrLDs of both hnRNPA1 and hnRNPA2
/B1, that may have a connection to forms of multisystem proteinopathy (MSP) such as ALS.
When looking into a family that was afflicted by a MSP they found a mutation within RNA
binding proteins known hnRNPA2/B1. These proteins are two isoforms of the same protein with
the longer of the two being known as hnRNPB2. In this case both forms of the protein had a
mutation in a highly conserved portion of the protein. The mutation consisted of an aspartate
residue, located at D290 in hnRNPA2 and D302 in hnRNPB1, being replaced with a valine. In a
previous study conducted by Dr. Eric Ross and James Toombs a prion propensity cart was created.
According to this study the prion propensity of the original aspartate was 0.080, much lower than
that of the new valine residue which scores a 0.81. Another contributing factor to the importance of
this mutation is that it occurs within the C terminal PrLD that is present in both proteins. The
second mutation that this study followed was present in a similar protein

The Point Of Oil Production Essay
I would like to discuss with you the breakeven point of oil production. Currently Saudi Arabia is
one of the leading producers of oil in the world. However, it is losing its foothold on the market.
Many countries, like North America, are increasing their oil production and are looking for
ways to become less dependent on foreign oil. The increased competition has caused oil prices
to decrease. By producing their own oil, countries not only will increase their revenues, but will
also reduce their need to rely on foreign oil. By reducing their need foreign an oil a country does
not have to worry that their oil supply will be cut off if they go to war. Another cause for the
decline in oil prices is caused by an increase in consumers purchasing more fuel efficient
vehicles, such as hybrid or electric vehicles. In many countries today, especially in North
America, there has been an increased demand for fuel efficient vehicles. This is evident in TV
commercials which are advertising more and more vehicles that get 40 to 50 miles per gallon,
and by the ever increasing commercials for electric vehicles. Consumers are tired of paying
outrageous prices for oil and are demanding more for their money. As this demand continues to
grow, the demand for oil will decrease. Over the past few years oil prices have been dropping.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (eig.gov), a barrel of oil cost $86.07 on
October 20, 2013. As of October 20, 2015 a barrel of oil

years that lead up to the present as we know it today. Unfortunately, most of these pieces featured in

Card Debt
Plastic money is in vogue in today s economy. Paying for what you buy through your credit card is
fashionable and convenient. But credit cards are growingly becoming a matter of immense concern
thanks to the problem of card debt. The problem of credit card debt arises when consumers buy
something swapping their card but are unable to repay the moneyto the card company within the
stipulated time period.
Moreover, when consumers purchase things using this form of plastic money, they actually end
up paying more than they would otherwise have because apart from paying the price of the goods
and services availed of, they also have to pay a complex rate of interest that keeps adding up each
month and thereby the credit card debt too transforms in to a huge and often unbelievable figure.

In fact when companies realize that a customer is nearing bankruptcy they may also make offers
for a fresh deal to the consumer that help to relieve him of some of his debt burden and at the same
time the companies too can maintain their profit levels.
Another form of card debt relief is to consolidate the different debts in to one loan and use the loan
money to pay off the multiple credit card debts with different interest rates and penalty rates.
In this way the consumer is relieved from complex interest rates and penalties and has to pay off
only a single loan which makes calculations easier and even penalty is not charged in this case.
Also mostly, the interest charged on such loan is lower than in the case of credit cards.
It is true that debt bogs most of us down but now there are many smart ways of managing your
credit card debt in a way that it cannot get the better of

Permo-Triassic Mass Extinction Essay
The Permo Triassic mass extinction: what died out
LIFE IN THE SEA
Fusulinid foraminifera disappeared completely, although other foram groups suffered much lower
levels of extinction. Palaeozoic corals (Rugosa and Tabulata) also vanished. Stenolaemate bryozoans
and articulate brachiopods suffered near complete extinction. The extant echinoderm groups all
experienced severe bottlenecks at this time: only two lineages of crinoids and echinoids made it
into the Mesozoic. Several echinoderm groups (e.g. Blastoidea) suffered complete extinction.
Fusilinid foraminifera (right) were unicellular animals, ranging in size from 0.1 8mm. Benthonic or
planktonic forms with a considerable disparity in morphology. Peaked in the Early Carboniferous,
already in prolonged decline throughout Permian, and the final 10% died out during the PTME.
The non fusilinid foraminifera (far right) included five suborders. The different suborders were
affected differently by the extinction: the Allogromiina are poorly known, the Textulariina lost a
third of genera; Miololina lost half of the genera; Lagenina and Involutina showed dramatic
increase in post extinction radiation.Sponges (Porifera), the basal animal group (left), composed of

Impact of Globalization on Total Quality Management
Introduction Total quality management (TQM) has been defined as continuous improvement of
every production output whether it be a product or a service, by removing inefficient variations and
by improving the backbone of the work process . International managers like their domestic
counterparts have found that incorporating the notion of total quality managementinto their
management process and style can give the competitive advantage.
A manager s decision making process regarding new or increased international operations involves
reacting to the environment, seeking competitive advantage globally and assessing the company s
capability in the global context.
Globalization makes managers ask certain questions. These questions include: ... Show more

Even though some of outcomes of globalization have been controversial, the market has become
more competitive than ever, thus creating the high demand for quality management.
The fact that globalization has expanded the market for organizations means that TQM is more
important than ever before. Customer demands are higher and if a company does not create
products and services that meet their expectations they can easily access the same or similar
products and services from another company. If managers do not implement TQM into their
company procedure then they will fail to meet the high standards of customers all over the world
and eventually lose their business. When it comes to implementing TQM, it s the mangers
responsibility to create an environment where people can work together to improve their work
processes. If the ownership or senior management does not buy into this concept you will never
succeed. Many people in leadership roles are either too set in their ways or closed minded to the
necessary change needed to really improve the way things get done. You have to buy into the
concept that there is always a better way to do something. By tapping into all the knowledge and
experience your employees possess, you develop solutions that not only improve your execution,
you provide everyone with a sense of accomplishment.. These process improvement teams give
employees a chance to help steer the future direction

Animal Farm Allegory
Animal Farm, Czar Nicholas II, what do they have in common? The book Animal Farm by
George Orwell is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. One allegory can be seen through Czar
Nicholas II, who represents Mr.Jones. In Animal Farm the animals defeat and overthrow Mr.Jones,
an inadequate farmer who mistreats his animals. The animals try to recover from the horrible reign
of Mr.Jones, and the story is about how they live after overthrowing the farmer. Czar Nicholas II
and Mr.Jones both struggled with their subjects and eventually were not fit to be leaders anymore
so lost the right to rule.

Nicholas lived in a huge palace while the rest of his citizens lived in tiny houses. This resembles
Mr.Jones because Mr. Jones ate a lot of food and drank while his animals were starving and
working themselves to the bone. Both leaders failed their citizens, and this failure eventually led
to an uprising. Besides both being bad leaders, they both were overthrown from their position.
The starvation was more than the hungry animals could bear and so the animals overthrew
Mr.Jones (Orwell 19). Mr.Jones and his men were overthrown and thrown off the farm, they
were run off, and the animals were in control of the farm. Czar Nicholas II s citizens could also

Nicholas II s people could only take so much, like how the animals on Mr.Jones s farm could

there he was eventually executed. Both of these people were overthrown because of their poor

Three Career In Nursing
Three Career Research These are the three careers I will focus on; Human Resource Manager,

could become one, skills, salary, and more. Each career has a specific reason why I choose these
three careers in particular. Reason why I choose Human Resource Manager is that I m currently
pursuing Human Resource Development major at Northeastern Illinois University. My second
career choice is Registered Nurse because nursing was my first major straight out of high school.
Dietician is my third career choice because I always had a passion to learn about eating healthy.

nurse. I realize that dietician doesn t have as much opportunity as nurses and Human Resource
Managers. I have a lack in few skills (critical thinking skills, detail oriented, emotional stability)
to become a nurse or dietician. I have all the necessary skills to become an HR such as decision
making skills, leadership skills, speaking skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
Two of my career values are helping others and to influence others. I believe all the careers had a
value of helping others and influencing others. Nurses help patients. Dietician helps clients to
make informed food choices, about the foods they eat. My most important need is work life
balance and stability. Work life balance is having a job that allows time for family and work.
Stability is having a job that won t change over a long period of time. This is important to me

There are around 550,000 people living in Johnson County Kansas (United states Census Bureau).
Most everybody has a faucet they can get to whenever they want. Most people have a pantry they
can get into everyday if they want to. Most people can go into a dresser or a clauset and pick out

A Summary Of Homer sThe Odyssey And The Holy Bible
Homer s The Odyssey and The Holy Bible are writings from the ancient civilizations. The proximity
regarding similar narratives between the two publications has produced curiosity in inquiring
minds. Interchangeable associations of both texts have prompted an investigation to explain why
this literary phenomenon has occurred.
In ancient Greece, Greek mythology began to emerge. Mythical narratives began to erupt for the
purpose of giving an explanation to certain social, religious, and environmental phenomena. Greek
chronicles included the gods/goddesses, heroes, and non human creatures.
Unlike Mythology, The Bibles narratives are actual events that took place dating back to the
beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible s compilation started thousands of years
ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, The Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew
language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of The New Testament
writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of
God which resulted in sixty six books of The Holy Bible. The Holy Scriptures explained the
creations, formation of the world, God, God s chosen peoples, sin, and the plan of salvation as well.
Homer s The Odyssey, is an epic poem of mythology which includes twenty four books. The ancient
writings focused its topics of discussions on the Trojan War, a hero named Odysseus, and the
challenges he faced throughout his journey home.

The Health Insurance Industry
Health insurance is a critical component that strives to offer quality healthcare. Uninsured
individuals often receive a less intensive medical attention, drag heavy financial burden to their
caretakers and are often victims of undesirable health outcomes (Bovbjerg, Hadley, 2017). Also, an
increased healthcare cost highly affects the US economy and individual family budgets along with
the State and Federal budgets. On the contrary, possessing health insuranceleads to healthier
children and adults who can focus on school, be more productive and excel in their fields.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of the health insurance market to provide high quality health

The modern day healthcare is evolving to the extent that can hold an enormous amount of patient s
records while ensuring that a patient s health is monitored more individually. However, the health
insurance companies adhere to the traditional insurance practices which revolve around pricing the
health risks based on the generalized information regarding ailments. Hence, new healthcare
structure indicates that each potential health insurance consumer will present the insurance firms
with varying insurance requirements. As a result, the insurance firms will require to go beyond
their current responsibilities to not only offer insurance coverage but come to agreeable terms with
their consumers and establish preventative measures to reduce their risks. It is evident that with an
increased competition and more individualized health records, the insurance firms will need to offer
more individualized insurance services to survive in the thriving market. Thereby, it can be

Laughter In Medieval Medicine
The expression, laughter is the best medicine, may be more true than many people think. Even
medieval medicine centered on humor. However, the humor of medieval times did not just come
from the court jester; and, even then, people knew humor was important to their health. One
curious fact is that the word humor in medieval times was tied to the four fluids of the body blood,
phlegm, choler, and black bile (Krsywicka). The people believed all these should be in balance in
the person as well as in their physical world (Cameron, qtd. by Krzywicka). Today most people do
not associate humor to body fluids, but they do associate it with laughter. As medicine has advanced
over the years, doctors have continued to study the humors of then,... Show more content on

Image Of God In The Chrysalids
Is there really one certain way God meant for people to be? Or are all people part of His image in
different ways? Well in the novel The Chrysalids the image of God, as reflected in Nicholson s
Repentances, seems to agree with the first option. The image of God within this novel demands
very strict guidelines. Due to these guidelines this image seems to discriminate against others who
are not perfect in their eyes. If a person does not meet the requirements dictated by the image of
God as stated within Nicholson s Repentances, they face grave consequences. In order to not serve
these consequences, they must keep their flaws/blemishes secretive and this leads to conflicts.
While other characters cause problems for others about the image of God. In The Chrysalidsby John
Wyndhamthe characters David Strorm, Sophie Wender, and Joseph Strorm all have conflicts
created for/by them surrounding the topic of the image of God as reflected in Nicholson s
repentances.
To begin, David has different conflicts created for him throughout this text about the image of God
as reflected in Nicholson s Repentances. His problem is the fact that he is telepathic. Within the
repentances it does not say anything about being telepathic, thus deeming him a deviant within
waknukian beliefs. However since nobody knows about this flaw/blemish he must constantly keep
this a secret. An example is during David s and Uncle Axel s conversation when Uncle Axel says, I

How The Christian Faith Broke Into So Many Different...
Joseph Suarez
Miss Czel
English II
22 March 2016 Have you ever wondered how the Christian faith broke into so many different
denominations? It all started around the 16th century with a man named Martin Luther. He began a
religious movement called the Protestant reformation. During this period many people and
countries broke away from the Catholic faith. The countries England and Scotland were some
countries that broke away and the English king, Henry VIII began the break from Catholicism and
founded the church if England. Many events followed this break and some of the events became
violent. These events and the break from the Catholic work influenced English and Scottish
literature. Religious Controversies, such as the Gunpowder Plot in the 16th and 17th centuries,
changed Catholicism in Scotland and England forever and influenced the play Macbeth. Prior to the
Protestant reformation in Europe a majority of people were Roman Catholic. The pope was the
ultimate authority of the people and Church and were a big influence on people s lives. Since
Jesus was around the Church gradually gained more and more power over time. The church was
both a political power and a military power in Europe. The church was basically a second
government to Catholics. Catholics had to pay taxes, tithes, church fees, and payments and many
more things for the church. Religion played a major part of people s lives at this point in the
Church s history. This was the condition of the church at

Sports Agents Essay
Sports Agents
People have been entertained by sport since before the gladiators in the Roman Coliseum. In the
20th century, the publics passion for sport consumes more and more of their free time. As sports
figures became internationally recognized, athletes began to realize their need for professional
representation. Thus, sports agents were born. The field of sports agents has grown since then into
an enormous field. Agents now deal with every aspect of an athlete s life. Agents can be
considered professional mangers who find the best place for their client s talent.
Sports Agents have not been around for a long time. Until the 1970 s, very few players had agents

This system bound players to teams and allowed owners to depress salaries of players.
The second factor was the development of competing leagues. Competing leagues such as the
American Football League, the American Baseball Association, the World Hockey Association,
and the United States Football League offered an alternative to athletes (Masteralexis, 246). These
leagues offered higher salaries to induce players to move from their original teams. When players
left a team to for more money, it also increased the salaries of players who stayed on the team.
Agents played a crucial role in determining what was best for athletes, and which league they should
choose.
The third reason for the growth of Sports Agency is the evolution of players associations. The
Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) led the move away from informal,
powerless associations to true labor organizations that took part in collective bargaining
(Masteralexis, 246). This organized a central association to bargain for players income, post
career income, tax breaks, and others. The union also made it possible for players to fight, or even
strike to get what they wanted. One of the largest accomplishments of the MLBPA was establishing
free agency. This was able to happen when Major League Baseball and the MLBPA went through
negotiations and the MLBPA won the right to labor grievance arbitration. Under this arbitration the
MLBPA achieved free agency. The

The End Of Life Care
The End of Life Care of Mrs. Terri Schiavo When a person comes to the point of time at which
they are at the end of their life, whether it is due to their age, natural causes or because an
accident has happened, end of life care becomes a key component in their given situation. For
most people, their families, whether it be their husband or their wife, their children, or even
their parents, have to be the ones to make decisions about that care. This end of life care involves
many decisions that most people do not want to make but have to, whether it is to prolong this
person s life or deciding to let them go peacefully and without any pain. In this paper, I will
discuss one particular case, that of Terri Schiavo, and her end of life care. Terri Schiavo was
born Theresa Marie Schindler on December 3, 1963 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to
the parents of Robert and Mary Schindler. Throughout her childhood, Terri struggled with being
short and overweight and therefore, she also struggled with her image of herself. It wasn t until
she went off to college that Terri s struggles led her to start dieting and she eventually lost some
of her weight. While she was in college, in 1982, Terri met a man who she fell in love with and
married two years later, in 1984, Michael Schiavo. Just two short years after getting married, the
couple decided to move to Florida, where Terri s parents, the Schindlers, lived. Settled in Florida,
Terri and Michael both found jobs, Michael

fatty acid, which has excellent nutritive value. There are other substances in insects that are good
for human health; for example, antibacterial protein and peptide, enzymes and hormones. Certain
insects constitute superior health food. As a nutritional resource, edible insects and their
industrialization should be focused on in future studies.
4.1.1Protein and amino acids
Protein is the basis of all organism activity and constitutes numerous essential materials such as
enzymes, hormones and hemoglobin. It is a principal constituent of antibodies as it bolsters the
immunity role of the body. It is the only material that produces nitrogen for maintaining acid and
alkali balance, transforming genetic information and transporting essential materials in the human
body. It can also supply energy due to its ability to produce heat. Insect bodies are rich in protein
and the proportion are higher than that of most plants; the protein content of several insects is
higher than that of commercial meat, poultry fowls and eggs. It is composed of more than 20 types
of amino acids that benefit the human body; among which eight are necessary for human nutrition
as they cannot be synthesized in the body (Jin 1987).

supporting and protecting various organs in the body. Fat can also aid in the absorption of vitamins.

(CFHS, 2014) L OrГ©al Canada should work hard to ensure that all of our manufacturing
faculties comply with the standards of CCAC so that our faculties can be certified for good
animal practices as well. It is important that our researchers and manufacturers find alternative
methods to animal testing, and only resort to the use of animals when all else fails. If there is no
option but to use animals for the testing of cosmetic products, the number of animals used should
be minimized, and pain and discomfort for those animals should be reduced as well. This is how
the implementation of the three R s of ethics should be used with regards to animals in research so
that we have good business practices and consumers will be more willing to purchase our products.
Sections 444 447 under the Criminal Code of Canada protects the rights of animals against cruelty,
but it the provincial legislation that deals with the use of animals in research. (CFHS, 2014)
Quebec has a specific legislation for animals in research, but this legislation does not have the
CCAC guidelines implemented into the legislation. (CFHS, 2014) At L OrГ©al Canada, since we
are located in Montreal, we should focus on incorporating CCAC guidelines into our business
practices even though the provincial legalisation does not make it a requirement. This is important
because consumers want to purchase products from companies that have good business practices
and protect the rights of animals. Therefore our

Investigating The Effect Of Temperature On Enzyme Activity
INTRODUCTION
Aim:
To investigate how temperature affect enzyme activity.
Background information:
Enzymes are globular proteins (see figure 1) that can be found in all the living cells. They can be
used as biological catalysts by lowering the energy that the chemical reaction requires to occur.
Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions and this property is known as enzyme
substrate specificity. Living organisms can produce many different enzymes. In order to further
explain enzyme substrate specificity, a basic knowledge about active sites on enzymes is
required. An active site is where substrates can be bind to the enzymes and where the biochemical
reactions are catalyzed. Active sites can be found on all enzymes. They are on the surface of
enzymes and once the substrate fits into the active site successfully the biochemical reaction is
catalyzed. After the products are released from the active site, the enzyme can be used again. As
has been said above Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions . However, some
enzymes can catalyze more than one biochemical reaction. This happens when the substrate is
closed to the enzyme, and the enzyme changes the shape of the active site to fit the substrate.
Figure 1(the shape of enzymes)
Enzymes only work within certain temperature and pH ranges as they can be denatured at certain
temperatures and pHs. When the enzyme is denatured, the shape of the active site on the enzyme
will change. Once

The Elements Of Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to the
underside of its wings which resemble the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a
supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable
differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator
eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is a similar misunderstanding when
examining the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When one looks close the story becomes clear.

Romanticism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because there

wireless data network (web, email, VOIP, IPTV). The closed model is already being offered in
many homes across the country, but as technology advances, the open model will become the
standard. It is important to understand how both technology and entertainment are companies are
strategizing to control the digital home .

Microsoft
Microsoft is taking several approaches to its digital home strategy. The first thing it did was to
release the Media PC Center in 2002. HP was the first to build a PC set top box to run this
software. Other hardware companies have been working to make the box look more like a
television companion than a PC. Microsoft s goal is to train consumers to consider buying a PC set
top box when they are upgrading their entertainment system. The current problem with this strategy
is that the boxes are priced too high ($1900). In addition, Microsoft is going to incur significant
pioneering costs in creating a market for these new entertainment PCs .
In the event that this set top PC does not become the standard, Microsoft is also creating
strategic alliances with other hardware and broadband companies. They are developing software
for Comcast PVRs and LG DVD recorders. They will receive $400M from SBC for the use of
Microsoft TV Internet Protocol Television Edition. Basically, they are placing bets hoping that one
system will standardize. In the words of a marketing manager at Microsoft, There is no one size
fits all choice .
Apple
Apple is currently repositioning itself as a media software and consumer electronics company due
to the success of iTunes and the iPod. They were the first company to develop a successful synergy
between consumer electronics and media delivery software. It is not unrealistic to expect some
form of this strategy to

Athletes Vs Intellect Analysis
I think our society values athletes and workers over intellect. When most people turn on their tv, if
they are given the choice between a football game or a documentary about plants, they would
choose the football game. In my opinion athletics and working should be equally balanced with
intellect. Some people will disagree stating that one is more important than the other. Choosing one
over the other can lead to serious consequences. If we spend to much time learning how to work
and play sports, like our modern day society does, we will forget the valuable information like art,
music, history, research, our progress in learning about the universe we live in. We will ultimately
stay stuck in the same spot in human advancement forever. The research

Growth of Human Population and Its Effect on the Environment
The growth of the human population has been strikingly apparent that the rate of growth has been
much steeper than recent times. The earlier Homo sapiens were vegetarians and gathers they
hunted and fished for food. With increased knowledge humans learned how to farm, domesticate
animals and used irrigation to meet their needs. The knowledge of water and sewer conditions
along with better medical care and agriculture made life easier. Earlier man did not have these
factors and the populationremained stable, for over thousands of years. The Toba super volcano is
believed to have caused a massive environmental change. Creating a bottleneck of the human
population that occurred about seventy thousand years ago. (Wikipedia, para. 1)... Show more

after the war of 1776 came the new age of medicine called the vaccination which makes an
enormous contribution to the mortality rate. With strides in cleanliness and improvements in the
medical field which; saw the induction of antibiotics and other medicines. Penicillin revolutionizes
the medical community to be the first drug to have curing capabilities on such diseases as Syphilis.
With the introduction of anesthesia opened new possibilities for surgical improvements. The
techniques for surgery improved after the introduction of anesthesia and once microorganisms were
realized as being the cause of all infection and diseases. Instead of the doctor coming to the homes
of the ill they built hospitals where patients would come to obtain care. Introduced to the medical

instruments and washing hands became routine before any medical procedure could be performed.

1. How did the information systems and the organization design changes implemented by
Knudstorp align with the changes in business strategy?
Ever since LEGO started experiencing double digit annual sales growth, (by launching new toy
games, branded theme parks, entering the video game sector, introducing mobile applications,
introducing toys for girls, etc.) they realized they needed a model that was standardized, modular
and scalable. Hence, allowing them to expand to new markets in a less amount of time. They
already had a decently established market in USA and UK; they were looking for an expansion in
other countries as well. This model had to tackle major issues like scalability challenges, employee

The generic strategies used by LEGO (according to me) were:
Growth strategy
Product differentiation strategy
Corporate strategy
Growth strategy: With the help of growth strategy, LEGO introduced new toys in the market.
Initially LEGO was something that boys liked playing with but Knudstorp introduced LEGO for
girls thus targeting girl child audience which increased his market. Not only this, they also entered
the video game sector by making virtual games after collaborating with Sony (which was ruling the
gaming console market at that point of time). Later, they started making figures with famous
characters from Hollywood movies (Star wars, Batman, The Avengers, etc.).
Product differentiation strategy: Lego was facing stiff competition from its Canadian rival Mega

New York Times Scandal
The New York Times begins by stating that As an independent counsel issued a fresh wave of White
House subpoenas, President Clinton today denied accusations of having had a sexual affair with a
21 year old White House intern and promised to cooperate with prosecutors investigating whether
the President obstructed justice and sought to have the reported liaison covered up (Clines and
Gerth 1). Although the statement is true, minuscule bias can already be detected. By including the
age of the intern, mentioning that the President may have obstructed justice, and implying a
coverup, the New York Times seems to deem the President as a guilty party. Throughout the article,
different parties are discussed and analyzed in their role in the scandal. Certain parties are treated
differently in terms of tone and diction. This raises red flags, but, still, the information important to
the situation is included. In terms of credibility, however, the article posses... Show more content on

The New York Times, 3 Jan. 1999, www.nytimes.com/1999/01/04/us/congress returns to a shadow

postpone his State of the Union Message if the Senate was still grappling with an impeachment
trial when he is scheduled to appear before a joint session of Congress on Jan. 19 (Mitchell 1).
Although this seems to be opinionated, the Times cited multiple sources and had copious reasons to
make that assertion. As the article progresses, Mitchell, the author, delves into the difficulty of
continuing governmental duties while the weight of an investigation hinders the efficiency. No bias
against any one person or party is included in the article, yet the author himself has his own
interpretation on the situation at hand. The left leaning nature of the Times seems to be absent in
this report as no political bias is

Computer Engineering At Shanghai Jiao Tong University
During my college career, through various challenging courses and research experience, as a
computer engineering major, I not only obtained a solid background knowledge in this field but
developed an analytical mind for research and a passion to continuing working in computer
architecture. After deliberating on my future, I decided to apply for the Ph.D. program at
(department of Computer Science Engineering) at (the Pennsylvania State University).
I was honored to be admitted to the dual degree program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and
the University of Michigan in 2013. During my freshman and sophomore years at Shanghai Jiao
Tong University, I led some embedded system related projects, and developed small applications
on different kinds of microprocessors. Writing software that is so close to hardware made me
curious about how these microprocessor s internal architecture works. Therefore, I declared my
major in Computer Engineering when I started my junior year at the University of Michigan.
However, what really got me excited about the field of computer architecture was the Computer
Architecture course. The course gave me the opportunity to build a synthesizable two way out of
order MIPS R10K based processor in Verilog. By walking through the progress that computer
engineers have been made since last century, I realized that I can learn more about computer
architecture and even make innovations by joining them in academic research.

Themes Of The Play Two Trains Running
The themes of the play are Two Trains Running is a political play that makes extended reference to
the black power movement and its impact on poor urban communities like the Hill District of
Pittsburgh. The issue of continued white oppression of African Americans and the response of the
black community during the 1960s is at the foreground of the characters experience. The
community surrounding the restaurant is undergoing a major redevelopment, probably one which
has been precipitated by the social initiatives that came in the wake of the civil rights movement.
However, the legal rights and privileges that the African Americancommunity won during the
1950s and 1960s do not seem necessarily to extend to impoverished city dwellers. An underlying
sense of tragedy and hopelessness pervades even short term victories such as the city awarding
Memphis thirty five thousand dollars, since Memphis remains estranged from his wife and has the

Even though it is highly possible the cups were empty it s amazing how the all the additions they
made made the diner stand out. During the play the characters as they mentioned after the play that

Fats Domino Analysis
I watched the premier of Fats Domino and the Birth of Rock n Roll when it debuted on PBS
February 26 during Black History month in honor of Domino s 88th birthday. As much as I
have always enjoyed the genre, I had never actually heard of Domino a man Elvis Presley once
referred to as the king of Rock n Roll before switching the channel to PBS while at the hotel on
our Honors class trip. One person featured in the film stated that, People don t really credit Rock

it very informative and interesting, and because I wanted to learn more about this claim regarding
musicand integration.

Domino s dreams turned to reality when he met musician and bandleader Billy Diamond who gave
him his nickname Fats and helped him get a regular job at the Hideaway club in New Orleans. It
was there that he began to attract attention singing and playing the piano. Soon, he was signed on
by Imperial Records, and his first record rose to number one on the R B charts (pbs.org). Along
with Dave Bartholomew and their band members, Domino recorded a number of hit songs. His
greatest successes were songs that reached a wide audience, appealing to both black and white
Americans. According to PBS, In 1957, the Domino band travelled 13,000 miles across the
United States working 355 shows, and selling out nightclubs whenever they played (pbs.org).
Domino s concerts were integrated; however, racial tensions were still high especially when
alcohol was involved and riots broke out at several of Domino s concerts. In addition, Fats and his
bandmates were victims of discrimination while touring on the road, and were often treated poorly,
forced to use facilities designated for African Americans.

The Riba Plan Of Work
The RIBA Plan of Work 2013 (Royal Institute Of British Architects, 2013) is a document that was
created by architects to aid with the design process of a building. The Plan provides a clear
structure within its eight work stages (0 7), the eight work stages outline tasks and outputs that
are required at the end of each stage. The Plan of works started in 1963 and has been revised 5
times since then, many contracts are related to or based on the plan of works. Stage 0 Strategic
Definition Stage 0 is the first stage in the RIBA Plan of Work (Royal Institute Of British
Architects, 2013), it is used mainly to establish a Business Case and a Strategic brief. A
Business Case is often a document / presentation which explains the reason behind initiating a
project, it is used to collate and analyse ideas and often includes information about cost and
whether a project is economically viable. The strategic brief is to do within defining the client s
needs and requirements this document will provide a basis to start the Initial Project brief
which comes under Stage 1. Stage 0 is where the client will start to think about the project team,
the client may know or want a certain architect and or consultant on the project due to past
experience. Stage 0 is also a chance to look at possible sites if one has not been chosen, or is
already owned by the client. This allows the client to do an initial review of the site and determine

Sacred Page Essay
Different meanings come to thought from this quote: The sacred page is not an end in itself, but a
means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him,
that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God
Himself in the core and center of their hearts, but only the means toward the end, which is knowing
GodHimself. (A. W. Tozer, 1897 1963)
The sacred page could well represent the spiritual experiences that ones pursuit in seeking after God.
In seeking after God, it is an ongoing daily spiritual walk. One may lay out steps in their struggle to
maintain the spiritual walk. At the end is everything. Paul stated, I have fought the good fight, I have

He needed us to do our part as one with Him. We were made to rely upon Him for all that we
required in carrying on with our life and fulfilling the plan and calling on our lives.
We should present this investigation with what we realized first. We were made for God. Every
one of us were perverse far from our actual home, when sin entered the world and turned into the
standard for men. Since the fall, man meanders this world free from God and far from His
nearness. The main path for us to return to the things of God is to acknowledge the arrangement of
recovery that God laid out with His Son Jesus before the establishments of the world. He cherishes
us like any parent would and made a route for any of us, without a doubt every one of us must
return to him.
God s arrangement of reclamation is the restricted to fix totally the sad consequences of the fall
and to reestablish us to the way we were intended to be. This arrangement of reclamation has as
of now been expert for us at the season of Christ s demise and revival. Be that, as it may, because,
God will NEVER abuse our free wills He sits tight for us to acknowledge his arrangement and after
that to return home to live in his nearness for eternity. Tozer stated, For it is not mere words that

Privacy, Crime, And Prevention
Privacy, Crime, and Prevention
While there are many crimes committed on a daily basis in various forms, people who use
computers seldom think about computer crimes, and what measures need to be taken in order to
prevent those type of crimes. Also many people who use computers are not aware of the privacy
and security measures that are taken advantage of. In order to handle these situations, it is
important to be educated on topics such as how to protect your privacy (and who is able to view
your personal information without you knowing), the crimes committed dealing with malware and
other virus agents, and how to utilize tools and stay away from scams that you may encounter.
These topics are important and should be addressed to all of the public, but particularly to children
and the elderly who are the least of informed on the ever changing technological world and how it
can directly effect them if precautions are not taken.
Protect yourself
According to Norton, a well known security software company, always ensure that your computer
software is up to date and apply patches to the software when it becomes available to lessen a
hacker attack on your system. Having up firewalls will discourage the hacker and motivate them to
find a less vulnerable victim. Also change your password every 90 days, at least, into words or

The Chevrolet Volt Adventure
The second chapter of the Chevrolet Volt adventure is about to begin. Fans of this hybrid

has a lower price and is more efficient than the first generation vehicle. This week, the EPA
confirmed that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt provides a 53 mile electric range, leading to a nearly 40
percent longer range on a single charge.
Range is the be all and end all of EV driving. Although the Volt has a 1.5 liter power generator to
provide fuel to run the electric motor when the battery is depleted, most buyers want prefer to rely
on low cost electricity only. Not only is electricity cheaper than gasoline, but when operating in EV

Planned right, a Volt owner could travel more than 1,000 miles before needing to stop at a fueling
station again provided that they regularly charge the vehicle.
Five model years after releasing the first generation Chevrolet Volt, GM is applying other changes
that will enhance the ownership experience.
Indeed, the new Volt will better utilize the electric motor when driving. In the first generation
model, the 111 kilowatt traction electric motor operated independently of the 55 kilowatt gasoline
generator. The new model allows the Voltec power system to use both motors concurrently under
certain driving circumstances. It also relies on a 75 kilowatt gasoline generator to deliver more
power as needed.
Regular Grade Gasoline Okayed
Overall fuel efficiency is up too. The first generation Volt achieved 37 mpg. The second
generation model is EPA rated at 42 mpg. Where the first generation model required premium fuel,
the all new Volt takes regular grade gasoline. That alone will enable customers to save at least 10
percent at the

Hellenistic Weather Patterns
Currently, climate change and erratic weather patterns are among the most prevalent news items.
Moreover, modern day humans have developed a habit of checking the daily weather update, and
they use this information for planning their day activities. Citing the recent weather disasters, such
as the Tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina, weatherpatterns have become an integral part of the modern
day living. According to a study by Horanont, Phithakkitnukoon and Leong, particular weather
conditions influence human activities when contrasted with people s normal activity patterns.
Further, these activities were noticeable at different time intervals of the day (e81153).
Consequently, the weather has an effect on how people feel and act.
According to Horanont, Phithakkitnukoon and Leong, cold, rainy, and windy weather conditions
influenced human activities significantly (e81153). During the cold and rainy weather days, people

Television Has Made A Major Impact On Today s Society
Television has made a major impact on today s society and everywhere you go you see people
watching television. The first successful television set was made in San Francisco, September 7,
1927 by a twenty one year old inventor named, Philo Taylor Farnsworth(TV History). Farnsworth
struggled a lot throughout his life and after many legal battles, Farnsworth died in debt from
lawsuits in 1971(Philo T. Farnsworth). Almost ninety years later, a common family tradition is
sitting around the televisionset, watching the hit shows of the day. This tradition has been around
since the television was made a highly marketed product in the 1950s. Many wonder when
prime time television came to be such a big thing for families to watch. Generations will argue
about this topic as long as television is a household activity. I hope to provide some clarity to the
argument and influence people on their opinion of what era was and is the best era s television
has been through. Some people may say the best time to watch television was when the
television first came out, and sports were broadcasted. Others may say that the current era is the
best era we may ever have due to the mass media featured. I believe, arguably, the best time for
televisions was in the 1950s and 1960s. That era was called the Golden Age and rightfully so.
With historical memories like the Beatles debuting on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, or the debut
of the Andy Griffith Show in 1960, and even the debut of Leave it to

Environmental Consequences Of Climate Change
Climate Change is a threat to public health. It affects the social and environmental determinants of
health clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food and secure shelter. Changes in the greenhouse
gas concentrations and other drivers alter the global climate and bring about a myriad of human
health consequences. Environmental consequences of climate change, such as extreme heat waves,
rising sea levels, changes in precipitationresulting in flooding and droughts, intense hurricanes, and
degraded air quality have direct and indirect impact on the physical, social, and psychological health
of humans.

Impact of Climate Change on Health
Global warming is allowing an array of forgotten pathogens to emerge from the thawing permafrost
and possibly reinfect humans. Organic matter like dead animals, moss and plants, long preserved
in ice, are now thawing, rotting, and releasing gases that not only spur global warming but create a
new breeding ground for bacteria and viruses.
Climate change is making heat waves hotter and more frequent which can cause heat exhaustion
and heatstroke or worsen pre existing cardiovascular and respiratory conditions.
City residents also face a heightened risk because of warmer temperatures in cities from the urban
heat island effect, caused by the mostly paved surfaces that absorb and re radiate heat and the lack
of green spaces and tree cover in these areas.
Due to climate change and frequent El Nino, affects the amount of carbon dioxide

The lion is known for it s big, silencing roar, which puts fear in their prey s eyes. Lions can live in cool temperatures, while also being able to live in the heat of desert areas. They don t like to live in big forests, such as rain forest. Most of them live woodlands, grassy plains, and areas with thorny scrub trees. Lions tend to live where they find food, mainly antelope, deer, zebra, and they also live where they have a place to drink, like streams and nearby rivers. These kings of the jungle can weigh between 250 and 550 pounds, depending on sex and age and can grow up to be forteen years old in the wild and over the age of twenty years old in captivity (Lions). A male lions usually weighs 350 to 400 pounds, but some can get up to 550pounds. Most males get about 9 feet long from the nose to the end of the tail. Lionesses, or females, are smaller than males. The girlfriend staring at a blank wall visualizing how to decorate to make it more home feeling for the both of them. The couple is smiling from the happiness knowing that the relationship is advancing to the next stage which is moving in together. This, my friends, is an ideal scenario of moving into an apartment with your significant other before marriage, which is known as premarital cohabitation. Some couples participate in premarital cohabitation which is becoming part of a lifestyle for younger couples. Students that are in college, or young adults around 20 to 30, and even students that just graduated high school are moving in together. Couples who participate in premarital cohabitation, affect the divorce rate, involved in premarital sex and is allowing the couple to see if they have a good quality and stable relationship, and if they are compatible for each other. Their search throughout the international landscape was focused on the chemical compounds that would be the foundation for therapeutic drugs that serve as a benefit to the management gastric disorders. Then not too far off, balsalazidedisodium was approved in Europe; and Astra began endorsing it in Europe under the brand name COLAZIDE. Interestingly enough, there were some influences in the external environment that would affect the relationship with Astra. Much like other industries in 1990s and early 2000s, the pharmaceutical industry responded to the challenges of globalization and smaller companies merged to form large conglomerates to create worldwide strength. (Kyriazis and Swayne) Astra merged with Zeneca, increasing the international exposure of the new merger as the seventh largest pharmaceutical company in the world. In such a situation, AstraZeneca had Colazide low on their list of priorities and attempted to return the licensing to Salix. This would require some adjustments and avoidance of legal implications on the part of AstraZeneca, which led to their payment of Salix s full contract and lending for acquisition of another partner. This opportunity led to several dealings that would result in Shire Pharmaceuticals purchasing the rights to Europe and Salix to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Danger Of Faith By Nathanial Hawthorne The Danger of Faith Many remember Young Goodman Brown as the classic tale of a young idealistic Puritan and his brush with the devil. This classic allegory by Nathanial Hawthorne, led him to be considered the founder of the modern short story. (Kellan) This story explores the relationship between faith, destiny and the evilness of mankind. It also exposes the hypocrisy of those who are considered the most righteous, and what can happen when a person s ideals are shattered. There is a lot of symbolism found in this short story. The symbolism between his wife Faith and his spiritual faith is very obvious and it does not take a great leap of imagination to connect the two. Brown has only been married for three months which could signify that he has only recently thought of his place in heaven as secure. (Connolly) Brown also believes that faith is his way to heaven; this is shown when he bargains with himself that once he finishes this one evil errand he will follow her to heaven. The relationship between Brown and the forest is one of a curious Human exploring the world of sin. His errand is never specified in the text, but he essentially goes looking for the devil. He even states that Faith kept me back a while. This shows some reluctance, but faith is still not enough to keep him from his task. Often in fiction the forest is regarded as a dark evil place full of terror and mystery. It makes sense that Brown would go to such a place for his mysterious walk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself...He is a dark skinned gypsy in aspect, in dress and manners a gentleman, that is, as much a gentleman as many a country squire: rather slovenly, perhaps, yet not looking amiss with his negligence, because he has an erect and handsome figure and rather morose... I know, by instinct, his reserve springs from an aversion to showy displays of feeling to manifestations of mutual kindliness. He ll love and hate, equally under cover, and esteem it a species of impertinence to be loved or hated again. (BrontГ« 3 6) ~~ This passage from Wuthering Heightsdescribes the mysterious Heathcliff, and his character and intentions. The passage conveys two different views regarding Mr. Heathcliff, a gypsy and a gentleman view. The thoughts of the reader just beginning to enter into Wuthering Heights as a novel and the thoughts of Lockwood trying to find out what the place is like are almost identical. Like Lockwood, readers of the novel confront all sorts of strange scenes and characters Heathcliff the strangest of them all. People that have sundry villainous old guns and a couple of horse pistols do give a gypsy feel. Lowell and Nathan Appleton lead to the creation of a mechanized and water powered system that could transform raw cotton to woven material. This system was names the Lowell Mills . In order to protect their agrarian ways, this textile industry was based of manual labors, which lead to the use women as their primary work force. Unlike in the past, women were able to work in an area away from home and, though significant, this small difference lead to big changes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These problems actually led to the involvement in politics for women. Not too long after women started joining the mills, the conditions began to rapidly deteriorate due to the depressed economy that was caused by the creation of rivaling textile mills. The comfort that enticed the women was now gone. The workload was increased, wages (already less than those of men) were lowered, dormitory rents were raised, and the mills became a more stressful and more unsafe place to work, these setbacks caused some workers to leave, but the rest stayed back and by 1834 went on a strike, opposing the heads of the industry for taking away what they were promised. Sometimes the heads of the industry would turn the women down, but they were persistent and sometimes it paid off. An example of this is when the women struck in order to reduce the amount of time they worked; The heads of the industry made the average worker work for twelve to fourteen hours a day but after two strikes and protests they were able to reduce the work time to eleven hours a day. The Coolest Cooler project through Kickstarter demonstrates tribes, the democratization of social media, the values of a salesperson, and the power of context. Kickstarter is a form of an electronic tribe. Kickstarter is a website where any hopeful entrepreneur can launch their ideas in the hope of raising enough money to meet their goal. If their goal is not met in the time period, the money is returned to the backers. Professors Tyrone Adams and Stephen Smith emphasizes tribes that work together, sharing a common belief, comparable to how Kickstarter links people together to become a part of a movement of the specific project. They are throngs of people dedicated to an idea, purpose, function, or even a way of being (Adams and Smith 14). The backers donate money to the business because they all believe in the project. • 10. The Importance Of Transfer Between Cells Though the previous experiment does indicate that when a seed is inserted into a cell it can form amyloid fibers, it fails to include parameters that describe how these proteins are transferred between cells. In order for an infectious agent to become infectious it must have a method for not only leaving the host cell but also entering a non infected cell. A study lead by Christian MГјnch set out to show the pathway that a prionlike proteinin an amyloid fiber can transfer between cells. These fibrils were labeled with Dylight dyes and when examined the majority of the grown cells were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One clear example of how mutations in the Prion like domains can affect the protein is shown in a study done by James Shorter and J. Paul Taylor, continuing the research of Hong Joo Kim et al. During the original research, mutations were found in the PrLDs of both hnRNPA1 and hnRNPA2 /B1, that may have a connection to forms of multisystem proteinopathy (MSP) such as ALS. When looking into a family that was afflicted by a MSP they found a mutation within RNA binding proteins known hnRNPA2/B1. These proteins are two isoforms of the same protein with the longer of the two being known as hnRNPB2. In this case both forms of the protein had a mutation in a highly conserved portion of the protein. The mutation consisted of an aspartate residue, located at D290 in hnRNPA2 and D302 in hnRNPB1, being replaced with a valine. In a previous study conducted by Dr. Eric Ross and James Toombs a prion propensity cart was created. According to this study the prion propensity of the original aspartate was 0.080, much lower than that of the new valine residue which scores a 0.81. Another contributing factor to the importance of this mutation is that it occurs within the C terminal PrLD that is present in both proteins. The second mutation that this study followed was present in a similar protein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Point Of Oil Production Essay I would like to discuss with you the breakeven point of oil production. Currently Saudi Arabia is one of the leading producers of oil in the world. However, it is losing its foothold on the market. Many countries, like North America, are increasing their oil production and are looking for ways to become less dependent on foreign oil. The increased competition has caused oil prices to decrease. By producing their own oil, countries not only will increase their revenues, but will also reduce their need to rely on foreign oil. By reducing their need foreign an oil a country does not have to worry that their oil supply will be cut off if they go to war. Another cause for the decline in oil prices is caused by an increase in consumers purchasing more fuel efficient vehicles, such as hybrid or electric vehicles. In many countries today, especially in North America, there has been an increased demand for fuel efficient vehicles. This is evident in TV commercials which are advertising more and more vehicles that get 40 to 50 miles per gallon, and by the ever increasing commercials for electric vehicles. Consumers are tired of paying outrageous prices for oil and are demanding more for their money. As this demand continues to grow, the demand for oil will decrease. Over the past few years oil prices have been dropping. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (eig.gov), a barrel of oil cost $86.07 on October 20, 2013. But credit cards are growingly becoming a matter of immense concern thanks to the problem of card debt. The problem of credit card debt arises when consumers buy something swapping their card but are unable to repay the moneyto the card company within the stipulated time period. Moreover, when consumers purchase things using this form of plastic money, they actually end up paying more than they would otherwise have because apart from paying the price of the goods and services availed of, they also have to pay a complex rate of interest that keeps adding up each month and thereby the credit card debt too transforms in to a huge and often unbelievable figure. In this way the consumer is relieved from complex interest rates and penalties and has to pay off only a single loan which makes calculations easier and even penalty is not charged in this case. The extant echinoderm groups all experienced severe bottlenecks at this time: only two lineages of crinoids and echinoids made it into the Mesozoic. Impact of Globalization on Total Quality Management Introduction Total quality management (TQM) has been defined as continuous improvement of every production output whether it be a product or a service, by removing inefficient variations and by improving the backbone of the work process . International managers like their domestic counterparts have found that incorporating the notion of total quality managementinto their management process and style can give the competitive advantage. Even though some of outcomes of globalization have been controversial, the market has become more competitive than ever, thus creating the high demand for quality management. The fact that globalization has expanded the market for organizations means that TQM is more important than ever before. Customer demands are higher and if a company does not create products and services that meet their expectations they can easily access the same or similar products and services from another company. If managers do not implement TQM into their company procedure then they will fail to meet the high standards of customers all over the world and eventually lose their business. When it comes to implementing TQM, it s the mangers responsibility to create an environment where people can work together to improve their work processes. If the ownership or senior management does not buy into this concept you will never succeed. Many people in leadership roles are either too set in their ways or closed minded to the necessary change needed to really improve the way things get done. • 16. Animal Farm Allegory Animal Farm, Czar Nicholas II, what do they have in common? The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. One allegory can be seen through Czar Nicholas II, who represents Mr.Jones. In Animal Farm the animals defeat and overthrow Mr.Jones, an inadequate farmer who mistreats his animals. The animals try to recover from the horrible reign of Mr.Jones, and the story is about how they live after overthrowing the farmer. Czar Nicholas II and Mr.Jones both struggled with their subjects and eventually were not fit to be leaders anymore so lost the right to rule. Czar Nicholas II was the last Russian emperor . Nicholas lived in a huge palace while the rest of his citizens lived in tiny houses. This resembles Mr.Jones because Mr. Jones ate a lot of food and drank while his animals were starving and working themselves to the bone. Both leaders failed their citizens, and this failure eventually led to an uprising. Besides both being bad leaders, they both were overthrown from their position. The starvation was more than the hungry animals could bear and so the animals overthrew Mr.Jones (Orwell 19). Mr.Jones and his men were overthrown and thrown off the farm, they were run off, and the animals were in control of the farm. Czar Nicholas II s citizens could also only take so much, in one article it said that no army could sustain such losses (Selcer 4). Czar Nicholas II s people could only take so much, like how the animals on Mr.Jones s farm could only take so much mistreatment. Czar Nicholas II was thrown out by his subjects and from there he was eventually executed. Both of these people were overthrown because of their poor leadership. Besides both being leaders who couldn t hold onto their power, Mr.Jones and Czar Nicholas II were both the last of their kind to rule. Each career will have a description of what they do, how they could become one, skills, salary, and more. Each career has a specific reason why I choose these three careers in particular. Reason why I choose Human Resource Manager is that I m currently pursuing Human Resource Development major at Northeastern Illinois University. The proximity regarding similar narratives between the two publications has produced curiosity in inquiring minds. Interchangeable associations of both texts have prompted an investigation to explain why this literary phenomenon has occurred. In ancient Greece, Greek mythology began to emerge. Mythical narratives began to erupt for the purpose of giving an explanation to certain social, religious, and environmental phenomena. Greek chronicles included the gods/goddesses, heroes, and non human creatures. Unlike Mythology, The Bibles narratives are actual events that took place dating back to the beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible s compilation started thousands of years ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, The Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of The New Testament writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of God which resulted in sixty six books of The Holy Bible. The Holy Scriptures explained the creations, formation of the world, God, God s chosen peoples, sin, and the plan of salvation as well. One curious fact is that the word humor in medieval times was tied to the four fluids of the body blood, phlegm, choler, and black bile (Krsywicka). The people believed all these should be in balance in the person as well as in their physical world (Cameron, qtd. by Krzywicka). Well in the novel The Chrysalids the image of God, as reflected in Nicholson s Repentances, seems to agree with the first option. The image of God within this novel demands very strict guidelines. Due to these guidelines this image seems to discriminate against others who are not perfect in their eyes. If a person does not meet the requirements dictated by the image of God as stated within Nicholson s Repentances, they face grave consequences. In order to not serve these consequences, they must keep their flaws/blemishes secretive and this leads to conflicts. While other characters cause problems for others about the image of God. Joseph Suarez Miss Czel English II 22 March 2016 Have you ever wondered how the Christian faith broke into so many different denominations? It all started around the 16th century with a man named Martin Luther. He began a religious movement called the Protestant reformation. During this period many people and countries broke away from the Catholic faith. The countries England and Scotland were some countries that broke away and the English king, Henry VIII began the break from Catholicism and founded the church if England. Many events followed this break and some of the events became violent. These events and the break from the Catholic work influenced English and Scottish literature. Religious Controversies, such as the Gunpowder Plot in the 16th and 17th centuries, changed Catholicism in Scotland and England forever and influenced the play Macbeth. Prior to the Protestant reformation in Europe a majority of people were Roman Catholic. The pope was the ultimate authority of the people and Church and were a big influence on people s lives. Since Jesus was around the Church gradually gained more and more power over time. The church was both a political power and a military power in Europe. This system bound players to teams and allowed owners to depress salaries of players. The second factor was the development of competing leagues. Competing leagues such as the American Football League, the American Baseball Association, the World Hockey Association, and the United States Football League offered an alternative to athletes (Masteralexis, 246). These leagues offered higher salaries to induce players to move from their original teams. When players left a team to for more money, it also increased the salaries of players who stayed on the team. Agents played a crucial role in determining what was best for athletes, and which league they should choose. The third reason for the growth of Sports Agency is the evolution of players associations. The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) led the move away from informal, powerless associations to true labor organizations that took part in collective bargaining (Masteralexis, 246). This organized a central association to bargain for players income, post career income, tax breaks, and others. The union also made it possible for players to fight, or even strike to get what they wanted. One of the largest accomplishments of the MLBPA was establishing free agency. This was able to happen when Major League Baseball and the MLBPA went through negotiations and the MLBPA won the right to labor grievance arbitration. For most people, their families, whether it be their husband or their wife, their children, or even their parents, have to be the ones to make decisions about that care. This end of life care involves many decisions that most people do not want to make but have to, whether it is to prolong this person s life or deciding to let them go peacefully and without any pain. While she was in college, in 1982, Terri met a man who she fell in love with and married two years later, in 1984, Michael Schiavo. • 33. Investigating The Effect Of Temperature On Enzyme Activity INTRODUCTION Aim: To investigate how temperature affect enzyme activity. Background information: Enzymes are globular proteins (see figure 1) that can be found in all the living cells. They can be used as biological catalysts by lowering the energy that the chemical reaction requires to occur. Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions and this property is known as enzyme substrate specificity. Living organisms can produce many different enzymes. In order to further explain enzyme substrate specificity, a basic knowledge about active sites on enzymes is required. An active site is where substrates can be bind to the enzymes and where the biochemical reactions are catalyzed. Active sites can be found on all enzymes. They are on the surface of enzymes and once the substrate fits into the active site successfully the biochemical reaction is catalyzed. After the products are released from the active site, the enzyme can be used again. As has been said above Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions . However, some enzymes can catalyze more than one biochemical reaction. This happens when the substrate is closed to the enzyme, and the enzyme changes the shape of the active site to fit the substrate. Figure 1(the shape of enzymes) Enzymes only work within certain temperature and pH ranges as they can be denatured at certain temperatures and pHs. When the enzyme is denatured, the shape of the active site on the enzyme will change. Once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to the underside of its wings which resemble the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is a similar misunderstanding when examining the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When one looks close the story becomes clear. The author presents this authentic real situation of a unschooled man that had to face the challenges of a typical fearful day out in the frontier.
