Essay about Research Critical Analysis
Journal Article Evaluation: Barinaga, E. (2007) 'Cultural diversity' at work: 'National culture' as a discourse organizing an international project group,
Human Relations, 60(2):
315–340.
Ester Barinaga's paper on multinational work teams and how they organize themselves using 'national culture' and 'cultural diversity' as discursive
resources is critically discussed, with special attention paid to the limitations of her research approach. This review proceeds as follows. First, the
theoretical framework is briefly outlined in which Barinaga embeds the specific angle of her research project. Then follows a critical description of the
international team she followed, her chosen method of observation and the findings she presents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While she clearly positions her research approach within the wider framework of the field, she fails to mention the Global Leadership and
Organizational Behaviour Effectiveness Research Project (GLOBE) initiated by R. House (House et al., 2002). Although its large–scale, quantitative
research approach differs from her ethnographic study and takes on the positivist stance she is arguing against, it deserves mentioning as both research
projects explore the impact of cultural diversity on organizational processes in multinational work teams.
Research Approach
Using the term discourse as coined by Foucault (1980), Barinaga explores in–depth how team members make sense of their daily group life by way of
their discourse on 'cultural diversity'. To gain insight into the "actors' construction of themselves and others" (Baszanger & Dodier, 1997, in Barinaga,
2007), she therefore chose ethnographic research methods to collect a comprehensive body of qualitative data on one work team with members from
five different countries. She closely followed every workshop and communication between meetings over a course of 17 month and recorded meetings,
interviewed team
members individually and collected all documents produced by or passed around in the group.
Additionally she asked each team member via e–mail

Australian National Identity
Australia's national identity was built upon the hard masculine foundations using the harsh nature of the bush to exemplify these character traits. For
many Australians, the ANZAC troops were the crystallization of the new identity. Following the crystallisation of the new identity, Australians started
creating the ideal Australian, making the ideal Australian the traditional ideas of Australian national identity. The ideal Australian was known to be
white, working class, sporty, male who were fiercely independent, and practical. It is important that we don't go back to the traditional ideas of
Australians national identity. (NEEDS TO BE FINISHED) "The Australian legend" by Russel Ward was first published in 1958 helps examine the

Nationality And Statelessness And The Stateless
Nationality and citizenship are central components of human security on the grounds that they give individuals a feeling of having a place and
personality. They give a legitimate premise to the activity of numerous human rights. Persons without a nationality are in numerous nations denied
various human rights that natives underestimate, in the same way those people lacked from human basic rights, such as access to schools and
therapeutic consideration, responsibility for, marriage and establishment of a family and delight in legitimate assurance. All around the world,
unfortunately an expected 15 million individuals are viewed as stateless. Moreover, a stateless individual is a human who is not viewed as a national
of any state under operation of its law. Statelessness happens for various reasons. An individual may detached her/his nationality and is not ready to

It manages instances of statelessness coming about from, inter alia, a change of common status, home abroad, or the intentional renunciation of
nationality. It additionally stipulates that kids ought to be allowed the nationality of the state party in which a guardian had citizenship. The
Convention denies states parties from denying individuals of their nationalities on racial, ethnic, religious, or political grounds. The Convention does
not, notwithstanding, oblige states to give nationality to stateless persons who enter their domain, unless those persons as of now have solid
associations with the state and don't have any possibility of securing a nationality somewhere else. Nowadays, the world–wide group has confronted an
expanded number of stateless persons and the security issues are emerging with

Kevin Rudd's Influence On Australian National Identity
"The Truth is great evil has been done,"

he influence of multiculturalism on the Australian national identity is frequently being questioned in the media. Audiences are left questioning
whether we as a nation truly do embrace every culture who steps through our doors. Multiculturalism is a vital aspect of the Australian identity and
plays a significant role within our day to day life, and is the entire basis on which our nation was developed: after all we are a land of immigrants.

The Gold Rush also attracted over 1.3 million people from various countries around the world such as China, Great Britain, Europe and North America.
This caused the economy to boom, with the population increase only happening within a short period of time.
However this caused a lot of racism with each states having different laws and legislation for the Chinese alone. Most people were very racist towards
them as they didn't speak English, they looked funny and they were concerned that Chinese were better at mining. This stigma surrounding the Chinese
lasted almost a century.
Funnily enough, all cities have at least one Chinese restaurant or cafГ© and it definitely plays a significant part in multiculturalism in Australia.
Something that contributes to who we are is our slang. Aussie's shorten everything. "G'day Mate, wanna go to the servo this arvo and we'll pop into

The Major Causes Of Statelessness In The United States
Statelessness
Nationality in any state is acquired either through birth or application to be a citizen of a particular country. Nationality by birth is automatic if the
parents belong to that nation or if the person is born in that nation. However, some people are not recognized as being nationals of any country by its
laws. This is a state of statelessness; some may be born stateless or become stateless later in their lives. According to UNHCR reports, over 10 million
people could be stateless. It is therefore the interest of this paper to discuss the causes, impacts and solutions to statelessness.
Causes of statelessness
Statelessness can occur as a result of many factors such as: discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, religious groups or gender, new states emergence,
territory transfer and gaps that occur in nationality laws (Bronwen, 2016). Gaps in the laws of nationality vary across nations, which sometimes if not
well formulated and followed may leave some people stateless. This a major cause, especially in cases where parents of a child are not known in
countries where nationality is acquired on the basis of origin. When people move from their home countries to others risk losing their nationality too. A
child born in a foreign country might end up being stateless if that country does not allow attaining nationality based on birth alone. This can also occur
if the country involved does not allow obtaining nationality through family ties.

Where Does Nationalism Come From?
Where does nationalism come from? This question has puzzled scholars since the study's inception and is also of vital importance. One only needs to
examine modern history to grasp the overarching influence nationalism has had throughout history, especially during the twentieth century. It has
sparked conflict and genocide, military campaigns, and civil unrest. Nationalism claims to be of a long heritage, culture, religion (usually at least), and
history shared among a specific people group with specific territorial boundaries. However, nations and nationalism as we think of them today did not
exist prior to the French Revolution. This dichotomy has led to a polarization of ideas on the subject of nationalism. Primordialism and Modernism are

Canada is a country that is built on people that emigrated from different parts of the world. The policy of multiculturalism in Canada was introduced
during 1970's to make sure people don't feel obliged to get rid of their identity on entry to Canada (Howard, 1998, p. 133). Canada has a long history
of how its immigration policies came to being. Canadian citizenship and began over a hundred years ago with all manners of racism and legal
exclusions. However immigration and citizenship policies have since changed and somewhat upgraded since then, in 1982 Canadian leaders introduced
the charter of rights and freedoms, the Multiculturalism policy in 1971, and Multiculturalism Act in 1988 to reshape our nations religious, ethnic and

The same rules apply to the UK except to the second generation of citizen by descent (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). As a result Canada's transmission
of citizenship by descent is much stricter than the UK and also different from those of the US (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). At any given time over the
past century, almost 3% of the world's people were living outside of their country of birth, suggesting that birthright citizenship is the most acquired
citizenship method in the world and almost 97% of the world's population are citizens of the country of their birth (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). Many
say that the rules of birthright citizenship could be under–inclusive (for example, a noncitizen who lived in Canada since he/she was an infant and
spent their entire life there is still not a citizen) and some say it is over– inclusive (such as a person born in Chicago to a Canadian mother from
Toronto, who never set foot in Canada is still a citizen). This opens up a debate about the ideal set of citizenship rules but it also puts an emphasis that
there really can't be any perfect set of rules (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). According to Migration Policy Institute Data Hub the foreign– born

The Displacementation Of Refugees
Background Every year, hundreds of thousands of families are forcibly removed from their homes because they're unable to pay their rent or
mortgage. Their entire family is uprooted and forced to give up all they know because of a few missed payments. They're forced to go stay with a
friend or sometimes even forced to live in some kind of shelter that will help them through these times. How do you think that family feels? Now
imagine that on a greater scale. Hundreds maybe even thousands of people being forced out of their country due to a war, or some kind of racial
discrimination. These people who suffer this are called refugees. Refugees were defined by the United Nations to be people who are not considered as
nationals by any state under the operation of its law. They have almost no rights, and due to this, they are also often treated very poorly. Though it is
possible for them to move and travel, they have no chance of acquiring citizenship into any country. Refugees have been displaced from their home
due to racial discrimination, war tribulations, or for the sake of their own safety. The displacement of refugees is an issue dating back to before
WWII. Before the second world war, statelessness referred mainly to the status of the inhabitants of conquered territories because they no longer had a
place to which they truly belonged. For example, many Jews became stateless before and during the Holocaust, because the Nuremberg laws stripped
them of their German

Two Ways To Belong In America Summary
In Bharati Mukherjee's "Two Ways to Belong in America," she outlines how she and her sister, Mira, came to the United States from India to have a
more privileged life while gaining their education and pursuing their dreams. As time went by, changes in immigration laws strickened and it took
away benefits from resident aliens. They both realized that changing and becoming an American citizen was necessary in order to achieve the
American dream they initially migrated for. Mukherjee (Bharati) was more open minded and she loved America, so she was more willing to stay in
America and become a legal citizen. On the other hand, Mira was more reserved with her Indian culture and returning to her homeland, yet she wanted
to stay temporarily in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very significant because it just proves how much she is willing to sacrifice her identity just so she can accomplish her goals as an American
citizen. Even so, Mukherjee was "opting for fluidity, self–invention, blue jeans, and Tshirts, and renouncing 3,000 years of cate–observant, 'pure
culture' marriage in the Mukherjee family" (273). She embraces the American culture because she acquires conformity from it. Mukherjee's love for
America makes her more susceptible to adjust into America to the point where she does not even follow her own Indian tradition. This changes her
identity negatively because the more she embraces the American lifestyle, the more she surrenders her Indian heritage. If she did allow herself to gain
citizenship while maintaining her Indian culture, perhaps her identity would not be jeopardized, however it is. Mukherjee loses her identity as a
traditional Indian since chose the American lifestyle over her own, and hence this reveals the trauma of self–transformation that results from sacrificing
one's identity. As opposed to Mukherjee, Mira have no desire to become assimilated into the American society because she wanted to keep her
Indianness and marry an Indian man. Initially, she was happy that she had a green card because it allows her to visit multiple areas in the world while
maintaining her job that she so desires. It gave her more freedom because she was not obliged to America, considering she was not a

Hobsbawm, And Laitin Struggle To Define Nationalism?
The complexity of the concepts of nationalism and nations makes them challenging to define concretely. In their quest to find what makes a group a
nation, Anderson, Geertz, Hobsbawm, and Laitin struggle to conceptualize the true definition of nationalism. After reading all the different ideas on
nationalism, I would loosely define it as a collective sentiment instituted into individuals in the pursuit of development and the greater good. I am not
trying to assign a concrete definition to the term given that I do understand that its complexity creates conflict on what nationalism truly encompasses.
In my opinion, the author that can include all aspects of nations and nationalism into an overall idea is Anderson. Anderson depicts anation to ... Show

Imagination and. Manipulation
Anderson defines a nation as an "imagined political community"(Anderson 6). He categorizes a nation as being
imagined given that most of its citizens do not know of each other, but they all now that they are part of the same community. Likewise, Hobsbawm
proposes that for a state to be considered a nation, it has to, "reinforce state patriotism with the sentiments and symbols of imagined community"
(Hobsbawm 89). By "imagined community," Hobsbawm means a community united against a same "outsider," and one that shares the same
attachments to the country and its "invented flag." The author of, Nations and Nationalism since 1780 proves that boundaries are only imagined to
form a state by similarities that bind the invented community together. "The true natural frontiers were not determined by mountains and rivers, but
rather by the language, the customs, the memories, all that distinguishes one nation from another" (Hobsbawm 91). This sentiment of connection
towards same beliefs is what makes a group of people to be considered a nation.

Defining Normative And Subjective Culture
We are all defined, and heavily influenced by, the culture in which we have grown and adopted. Culture is defined as "the customs, arts, social
institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group", according to The Oxford Dictionary, and can be separated into two
specific classifications known as normative and subjective culture. Normative culture is "the connecting beliefs, values, tradition, economy, political and
social institutions, artistic expressions and collective history of various interacting groups of people". Subjective culture, however, represents "a
society 's "characteristic way of perceiving its social environment"". My personal culture is emphasized by five categories of subjective culture,
including nationality, regional identity, education, social/economic class, and age. Growing up as an American has shaped the culture with which I
identify. Nationality, according to The Law Dictionary, is "that quality or character which arises from the fact of a person's belonging to a nation or
state. Nationality determines the political status of the individual, especially with reference to allegiance; while domicile determines his civil status.
Nationality arises either by birth or by naturalization." Because The United States is so diverse, its citizens, including myself, are exposed to many
different cultures which expand our enculturation, "the process by which an individual learns the traditional content of a culture and

Understanding the Concept of Citizenship
Citizenship is a broad term in which has been changed and morphed into a general ideal of a person's belonging to certain state. Although
throughout history citizenship has preserved a sturdy ethical link to justice, liberty and democracy. This debate is formed around the ideas of what a
person bearing should be in society. Aristotle describes the citizen as 'One who has a share in both the ruling and being ruled' this idea of having
input into the running of the state can seen impossible and unimaginable due to citizenship status or government in which the state relays power into.
Citizenship defined in a political viewpoint is said to be a series of rights and responsibilities that involve an individual as a member of a political
community. This includes, social, economic, civic and political duties and rights. As a member of the state all people have the right to be a citizen,
with being a citizen comes these rights and liberties. But this is part of the problem, people who are not legally seen, as citizens are not recognized by
the state there placement, treatment and rights become blurred. When defining citizenship we also need to look at other surrounding areas that
contribute to the ideal itself such as assimilation, nationality, cultural identity, social integration and the other side of the spectrum, stateless citizenship.
Does citizenship provide cultural identity, nationality or just a legal standpoint in which you can physically and legally belong to a country

The Untrue Of Nationalism
The term "nationalism," without any context, typically brings to mind images of grandiose pageants and displays of patriotism, conflict between
in–groups and out–groups, and general discord when the nationalist sentiment escalates into an all–out conflict, whether simply ideological or more
physically violent. Nationalism, a term which often caries an undesirable connotation, is typically defined simply as an association or pride in one's
nation which includes a feeling of belonging and identity. Throughout history, this term has typically been applied in a derisive fashion to accuse a
group of possessing the commonly–associated traits – ranging from jingoism and xenophobia, to ethnocentrism and racism – which many have come to

In general, it is accompanied by the argument that nationalism generates a certain energy or impetus in a society which must be taken out on an
"other" or enemy of some sort; thus, the society will locate a suitable (and oftentimes very unlucky) scapegoat which they can direct their
nationalistic frustration. However, one could argue that this isn't entirely true. It can, rather, be taken a step further in order to conclude that the
people will have a scapegoat chosen for them. This can clearly be seen in the case of the Dominican Republic, whose generalized nationalist
xenophobia was honed and directed at a particular target, and consequently diverted from another. Nationalistic movements tend to be supported and
led by a single powerful individual or a small group of elites who wish to secure their power (Gagnon, 136). It is often practical for them to divert the
attention of the masses away from the flaws of a governmental system and onto some sort of third–party distraction, which serves the secondary
purpose of uniting their followers under a common

Immigration Without Assimilation
Immigration without assimilation
Immigration is a way to move from one country to another country. In Ethiopia's case immigration is the incoming of refugees from Eritrea, Somalia,
South Sudan and Sudan. The immigrants from these countries are in seek of peace and stability. Generally, when their lives are in danger, they flee to
their closest safe country, Ethiopia. Most of these people walked to get to Ethiopia. According to the UNHCR of the United nations, 850,000 refugees
from neighboring countries residing in Ethiopia and the country hosts the largest number of refugees in Africa. Ethiopia's immigration without
assimilation policy benefits the immigrants in national identities, cultures, and language preservation and are most welcome to enter into the nation. So,
national identity, culture and religion are the three aspects of the immigrants are preserved due to Ethiopia's policy of no assimilation. The first aspect
that the immigrants are preserved due to Ethiopia's policy of no assimilation is national identity. The refugees from Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and
Sudan are having their own national identities of their states. They have distinctive traditions and feelings they share with a group of people about their
nations. Here, the immigrants are displaced only from their homelands, but with all having traditions and feelings about their countries. With their
national identities, they are moving far away from their homelands seeking for peace and stability as

Stereotypes In Australia's 'Land Down Under'
Australian Image Reborn
Arriving in Australia in 2010, at the Brisbane Airport, I looked forward to owning a Koala as a pet, and kangaroos jumping around in my front yard. I
was sorely disappointed when I found out that this was not the case. A few months later I was faced with reality.
Yes, there are massive spiders. No, you are not allowed a kangaroo or koala as a pet. Yes, barbeques are a common thing, but shrimps are not the only
thing put on a Barbie. And yes, we speak English, NOT Australian. So why is it thatAustralia is perceived in such a false manner?

many false stereotypes about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the most recent Census (2008) estimates that 89% of the Australian population live in urban areas, making Australia one of the world's most
urbanised country. Also, despite the fact that Australians are stereotyped as uncivilised and uneducated, the adult literacy rate, as of 2012, is 96%.
Moving on, Australia has many ironic Australian foods. The stereotypes that we only cook our food on barbeques, we all eat vegemite and meat are
most definitely false. Australians, like most people in the world, eat whatever their taste buds desire. We still have our 'Bush Tucker', and our regular
barbeques, and thanks to our multicultural society, our variety of food has greatly expanded.
Speaking of a multicultural society, another negative stereotype regards Australia's intolerance, self–absorbance and ignorance. This is most definitely
untrue, as contemporary Australia is filled with people from various cultures, and is proud to be called an egalitarian country. In fact, in 2014–15, net

Australian Nationality Law Case Study
The 1948 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting decided to make major changes in nationality laws throughout the Commonwealth, following
Canada's decision to enact its Canadian citizenship law in 1946. Until then all Commonwealth countries, with the exception of the Irish Free State, had
a single nationality status of British subject. It was decided at that conference that the United Kingdom and the self–governing dominions would each
adopt a separate national citizenship, while retaining the common status of British subject. The Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948, which came into
force on 26 January 1949, gave effect to that arrangement and created the concept of Australian nationality while continuing to be British subjects.

Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump stated on January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that
immigrants are a danger to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a uniform law so that any ВЁfree white

Although it seems like we have been changing our immigration laws to make our country a more open and welcoming society for all people,
regardless of race or religion, it appears our new president is rewinding history. The first Americannationality law was enacted by Congress in 1790
which allowed "free white people" to earn citizenship after two years of residency in the country. According to Charles Gordon, Former Deputy

National Flag Design And The Competition Of Australia In 2020
Shudan Deng
Summary
The national flag is a significant identity for a nation. It is stand for the every people and organisation of the country, and it plays an important role in
politics. It is also a tool for claiming the land and sovereignty. Changing a national flag is a challenge for a country, and it cannot be completely
accepted and satisfied by every citizens.
The similar appearances of the flag of Australia and New Zealand are hard for other countries' people to differentiate these two flags. In addition, the
current flags cannot represent the image of the country, and they have much British ensign–based design, so they are inappropriate for the two
countries. More, the Union Flag takes the vexillological honour point from two countries through the flag.
In the competition of Australia, the winner was solely judged by the Panel. However, in New Zealand, the winner was decided by the Panel and
referendum. Moreover, the competition in Australia required the entry fee, the competition in New Zealand was supported by the government.
There are five basic principles to design a flag including simplicity, symbolism, two to three basic colours, no lettering or seals, and no repeat.

WHAT IS STATE
The word nation is derived from the Latin word 'stare'(to endure) and more specifically from "status"(a standing or condition). But this is a very old
concept so, its relation in present context need to be answered. Max Weber 's,[7][8][9][10][11] which describes the state as a compulsory political
organization with a centralized government that maintains amonopoly of the legitimate use of force within a certain territory.
Most of us are the members of a state and live within the borders of one. We become part of a state even before we become aware about it , the
registration of our birth, government hospitals, roads, etc all are part of few examples. What should define a state has been a part of debate by many
political thinkers. Some thinkers consider state to be the most important part for modern political theories and say that is stae that comprises of the the
topic that one needs to study in in political theory i.e. rights, democracy, equality, liberty are all part of the relation between the state and those living

Citizenship, Religion and Society Policy of the United...
Citizenship, Religion and Society Policy of the United Kingdom Introduction Religion affects the way in which one of the majority of the world's
population structures people live. Many mainstream institutional religions have experienced declining membership, retains power to influence systems
of ethnics and morality. Also, religion has a strong connection with integration and migration. Therefore, Europe differs considerably in their responses
toward integration and migration–related diversity (Simpson, 235). This is reflected for instance in the time duration with which immigrants can apply

Nationalism's Role In World War I
Nationalism is the strong belief that the interests of a particular nation–state is of primary importance. It also is the belief that a people who share a
common language, history, and culture should have an independent nation. Nationalism is shown in many ways throughout World War I, the Interwar
Years, and World War II. It is shown in nationalists groups such as the KMT, through new ideas such as Nazism or Fascism, and during events that
happen during wars and revolutions, such as the Salt March. Nationalism's role is important in all of these wars and revolutions because without
Nationalism, history would be very different. Nationalism has a big impact on World War 1, and its impact is shown in many ways throughout the war.

During the Interwar years, nationalism effected revolutions and the decisions that governments or political groups make. The Russians show
nationalism by eliminating anyone who doesn't follow communism. "Stalin waged war ... on those designated as "kulaks" (Goff 151)because he
wanted to unify the people who agreed with his ideas of communism. This affects the communists rise to power during the Russian revolution because
the communists are trying to unite the Russians under one government. The Kuomintang, also known as the KMT, were a nationalist party in China
during the interwar years who opposed the CCP, the Chinese Communist Party. The reason that this group was nationalist is because Sun–Yat sen, the
leader of the KMT, wanted to unite the people of China under a republic. Nationalism played a big role in forming the revolution in China. Nationalism
is also shown by the Indian people during the Salt March. The Indian people decided to have this march to show their independence. This is an example
of nationalism because the Indian people are uniting to show their independence and get rid of the British. Nationalism effected the situations in

How Immigrants Have Been Treated Over The History Of Canada
Throughout this course, the focus has been on how Immigrants have been treated over the history of Canada and the phases in which events and
settlements began. Abu–Laban states Substantive citizenship involves pressing issues relating to equality of rights and opportunities; treatment and life
condition; and, not least, participatory involvement that ought to come from holding formal citizenship...In short, being a citizen is no guarantee of
equality; real equality is hampered by inequalities resulting from membership in stigmatized and minoritized groups. Within this paper I will discuss
how this quote relates and argues the four phases of Canadian Immigration that were taught within this course. Phase One of Canadian Immigration,
pre–1901, included high British and French populations, Jewish, Polish and German Mennonite settlements, High Asian concentration on the west
coast and the Immigration Act of 1896, which focused on country of origin of Immigrants until 1962. In comparison to Abu–Laban's quote above, this
phase of immigration started the stepping stones to allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase helped
improve the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was little discrimination on who could become a Canadian citizen. 1896–1914,
prairie settlement, was a time period of revisions on the Immigration act, this revision allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any
race deemed

Priscilla Queen Of The Desert Film Analysis
What is National Cinema ? A Question proposed by Tom O'Reagan in Australian National Cinema (2005). The question leads to the sociological
understanding that national cinema is constructed by both national and international film industries, the national film text and also by the various
cultural, social and political contexts. National Cinema is a vehicle for social processes, emerging social identity and movements. A film may
categorised as a 'national cinema' based on a number of factors: the language spoken in the film, the nationalities or dress of the characters, the country
that supports the film financially, the setting, music or cultural elements present in the film. Which points to The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the

O'Reagan perfectly explains that The Woman–centred narrative is one feature genre that has maintained an ongoing though minor presence on
production schedules, particularly from 1970. Then he goes on to explain that Public campaigns of the domestic feminist movement have been strong,
and a prioritising of relationships as a central point of focus in Australian cinema has been necessary because it has had to rely less on action and more
on relationships. One of the strongest characteristics associated with Australian cinema is the language, the Australian cinema has an upper hand being
that the spoken language is English. This establishes Australia in the mainstream language majority. Although Australia has an impact on an
international level and has an extremely iconic accent, on one hand this works in benefit being that the market for Australian language is demanding
whereas on the other hand the Australian slang/lingo is extremely hard to understand and interpret, it is also very hard to translate without losing its

Immigration Laws : Are They Fair
Immigration Laws: are they Fair to New Immigrants?
From Sea to Sea to Sea. This is the Canadian belief. All are welcome: from sea, to sea, to sea. Canada, to this day, is one of the most open countries
towards immigration in the world (Troper). With a whopping 20.6% of its population identified as immigrants (Immigration...), Canada is known for its
generosity towards Immigrants and refugees all around the world. Though Canada asks immigrants of certain qualifications (Tariq), it is nevertheless
drastically easier to enter, compared to most of other western developed countries (Debra). The process of Immigration to Canada is attainable, and fair
to immigrants of all status.
A common misconception of law, in general, is considering... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You might ask: "Where do all these immigrants come from, and who are they?" The answer is, everyone. All, or almost all, are welcome to Canada.
Whether you are an economic class, family class, a refugee, or a temporary worker, you have the ability to apply for immigration and citizenship.
Unless you have a disease that could endanger public health, have no means of financial support, or are known to be a criminal or a terrorist, you
have the ability to apply for immigration to Canada. Is prohibiting a terrorist from entering your country unfair? Not in my opinion. A great number of
people complain about Canada making it harder to immigrate by passing a new Act, but this is not true. Immigration and Refugee Protection Act was
passed in 2002, replacing the 1976 Immigration Act (Troper), and the new Act did have more restrictions on the less wealthy, undereducated, and
unskilled immigrants, but that does not make it unreasonable. Before this Act, countless number of the skilled and educated could not immigrate
because their place was taken by immigrants that in many cases were not even educated. This was very frustrating. Imagine entering a contest with a
few friends and working very hard to win the prize, then watching as the administrator hands the prize to a little kid who just happened to walk down

The feedback received on this proposition was mixed; however, the majority of delegates showed support for such an Association. Those in favour of
the creation of such an organization believed that uniting leaders in this field would be beneficial for the future of First Nations education, and
encouraged the harmonization of resources and practices. Other supporters felt that coming together as a single entity would create a stronger voice in
advocating for policy changes, and that creating a united front for First Nations educators was very necessary. Those who were hesitant to support the
NIEC's plan cited funding issues and the cost of membership as a potential barrier, as well as the limitations of only including Directors of Education,
and suggested a broader catchment including local leadership, principals and educators to increase the efficacy of the authority that such an
organization would bear. A further concern raised was the issue of diversity and the differing needs by region, which could hinder the decision making
processes of a potential association. Additional research, planning, and consultation must be undertaken in order to provide accurate and complete

Australian Citizenship Act 14 Essay
The Australian Citizenship Legislation Amendment, Strengthening the Requirements for Australian Citizenship and Other Measures Bill 2017,
introduced by Mr Peter Dutton, minister for Immigration and Border Protection proposed to reform the requirements of citizenship. The bill
incorporates a number of integrity measures to ensure migrants are capable of upholding Australian values and subsequently, prepared to be full, active
members in Australian society. To maintain social cohesion and facilitate social progression, the bill suggests stricter application requirements,
fundamental to determine whether an individual acquires Australian values measured through new imposed testing. Currently,Australia is a combination
of diverse cultures, religions and consequently, it is considerably difficult to define the values of Australian citizens as a whole. Therefore, the
underlying motives of the Australian Citizenship Bill 2017 are highly controversial.
The Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948, initially recognised citizenship as formal members of the community, involving reciprocal rights and
obligations which united all, whilst respecting individual's diversity. This act was amended frequently due to the progression of society and inherent
multicultural values promoted by the People of Australia Policy. It was repealed by the Australian Citizenship Act 2007, which strengthened the

Immigration And Nationalities Act : Human Resource Management

Immigration and Nationalities Act According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, an immigrant is "a person who comes to a country to take up permanent
residence" (Merriam–Webster). Immigration is the actual movement of the immigrant. The first major migration into America took place with its
discovery. When Columbus accidently discovered North American and it led to the widespread migration of the Western European settlers. That then
caused the Atlantic slave trade between America, Africa, and Western Europe to occur. Another huge movement is the Industrial Revolution, which

There are many reasons why foreign people migrate to the United States. A few reasons consists of finance, living conditions, war, health reasons,
and a search for a soul mate (Experts). Some of the migrants live in poverty, so in order to get out of it, they move to a place that have well–paying
jobs. Coincidently they choose to work for a lesser price than American citizens do but its probably still more than what they make in their
homeland. Also with poverty comes living conditions. People who are poor or who have very low income most likely live in ghettos. If a country
were in a war or constantly going to war, one would like to move out of the country and stay out of the danger zone. Whether the battle is with another
country or within the country. Health is another big reason for migration. Maybe a disease spreads throughout their homeland and they want to leave
before getting the disease. If one becomes affected then they would like treatment, so they come to America because we have one of the best health
researchers and one of the best curers of diseases. For example, the Ebola virus that has caught people's attention especially Americans, is bringing
patients from Africa to America for disease treatment.
There were many statutes that tried to control the movement of immigration before the Immigration and Nationalities Act of 1952. The Chinese
Exclusion Act of 1882 was one of the first significant laws to try to restrict

Canada 's Protection Of Its Rights
Intro/ Topic: This paper will discuss Canada's protection of its citizens' rights, or lack thereof, specifically in regard to the recent amendment to its
Citizenship Act in the form of Bill C–24, or the "Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act". Through this amendment, Canada acts to limit its protection
of the rights of its new and dual citizens. Bill C–24 makes several changes to Canada's Citizenship Act that directly affects Canadian citizens who hold
citizenships elsewhere, whether they be Canadian born and raised, or newly naturalized. There is significant dispute around the exemption of those

Dual–nationalists are therefore subject to much harsher penalties than Canadian–only citizens. Forcese (2013) notes that in this regard, Bill C–24 also
appears to contradict Section Six of Canada's Citizenship Act which holds that "a citizen, whether or not born in Canada, is entitled to all rights,
powers and privileges and is subject to all obligations, duties and liabilities to which a person who is a citizen under paragraph 3(1)(a) [born in
Canada after 1977] is entitled or subject and has a like status to that of such a person". This section has not yet been amended (Citizenship Act). The
authority to revoke citizenship due to a conviction for an offence that occurred "before or after the coming into force of this section [Bill C–24]"
(Government of Canada 2014c; Parliament of Canada 2014) fundamentally undermines Section Eleven of the Charter, which protects the right to not be
tried or punished again for an offence one has already been found guilty and punished for (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms). The authority
granted by this amendment therefore allows the punitive withdrawal of a validly attained citizenship due to crimes committed in the past, which one
has already been tried and punished for. Instances similar to this were illustrated in the 1990s when Canadian courts attempted to revoke the Canadian
nationality of several peoples accused of Nazi collaboration decades earlier, during World War II (Forcese 2013). The changed

The Pursue Of Nationalism
Nationalism claims that a person's identity is obtained from their nation. This ideology dictates that citizens share a "common language, shared cultural
traditions, and sometimes religion." Its presence allowed citizens to acquire an identity during a time of growing frustration towards the changing
social order and political borders that reforms (political and intellectual) and revolutions left behind. Despite the variability of reforms and revolutions,
nationalism has remained static and can serve as a basis for political movements and ideologies that are on opposite sides of the spectrum, e.g.
nationalism has served as a basis for both Conservatism and Liberalism. Consequently, I claim that, despite the term being static, it is flexible in its use,
i.e., it can be applied to different movements across time. On this basis, I ultimately claim that nationalism as an... Show more content on

assume that Romanticism is the antidote for the ideology that is rooted in nationalist thought. For the sake of argument, I will assume that an
opposition to the "root" of something is an opposition to the thing from which it came from. In other words, if Romanticism opposes the Enlightenment
and the Enlightenment is rooted in nationalist thought then Romanticism opposes nationalist thought. How can this be the case? If Romanticism

Australian dual nationals can travel to the US: Malcolm Turnbull

Mrlloy and David Wroe, reflects how Australian citizens with dual citizenship will not be affected by the US's contradicting immigration prohibition. At
the Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Turnbull stated that people with dual citizenship are approved to visit the US, despite their beliefs or culture.
The main issue raised in this article was that Australian citizens which hold a dual citizenship are not allowed to travel to the US. Mr Turnbull
confirmed dual citizenship holders are safe to visit the US with no harm or worry. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

measures being overlooked to avoid the situation from escalating.
I believe, everyone in Australia should be treated fairly and have equal rights. I also support people with dual citizenship and background from

It would be too simplistic to claim that the true Australian identity could be defined by examining the indigenous communities that existed before
European settlement. It is also unrealistic to just focus on British colonies that developed from convict settlements or the towns that attracted free
settlers from Britain and Europe who were seeking a better life. Perhaps the only idea which can be retained from these early times is the concept of
seeking a better, which is a common aspect of Australian identity within those who have come from across the seas toAustralia. Those who came
during the Gold Rushes, the bushrangers who lived a life of crime, the Europeans who fled poverty or the evil of World War One or two, all held
onto the idea that Australia provided an opportunity for something better. This is something that was present hundreds of years ago and is still
present in those who come from Asia or Middle East by boat every year risking their lives. This concept is presented through the character of Ricky
Wong in we can be heroes who is doing a PhD in physics and aiming at becoming an actor. Ricky proves that it is a part of Australian identity to hope

Also known as "multiple citizenship" or "dual nationality", dual citizenship refers to one who is a legal citizen in two different countries, at the same

only if both countries permit dual citizenship. As a dual citizen, one can have privileges such as easy access to multiple countries without a visa. But as
a dual citizen, one has to fulfill their duties towards both countries, such as paying tax to both countries. There are over 90 countries that grant dual

This may cause friction between the foreigners and the native citizens, and result in serious social problems. It will be difficult for foreigners to
blend in with the native citizens; the foreigners will have to follow the customs and ways of the natives. But problems will arise when foreigners
do not engage themselves in the country fully, and view the country as a place for them to make a living. As a Singaporean, I feel that the local
government should not allow dual citizenship. Dual citizenship can be a wonderful thing, as one can enjoy the perks of being a citizen from all
over the world. However, citizenship is something that should not be taken for granted. Singapore is a country bounded by many strict laws and
fines. If dual citizenship is allowed, who can guarantee that Singaporeans would not pack their bags and leave for another country, which can offer
the same benefits and more freedom? During times of war, which country, will one, defends? Which country has a higher priority? If Singapore is
plagued by disasters or economic recessions, will Singaporeans remain in Singapore or leave with their dual citizenship? By allowing dual
citizenship, the sense of loyalty towards Singapore is reduced. Dual citizenship for Singapore could also mean that more and more foreigners will take

Dual Citizenship : A Citizen Of More Than A Country
What is dual citizenship?
Dual citizenship is an individual's citizenship position, in which an individual is jointly considered to be a citizen of more than a country under the
legislations of those countries ("Multiple citizenship", n.d.). Multiple citizenship results as dissimilar nations utilize dissimilar basis for citizenship ('
Multiple citizenship", n.d.).
Numerous nations have not permitted dual citizenship since they believe that it will represent a growth in the immigration of foreigners, inflated
lawbreaking rates, fewer job possibilities for their citizens, and an extensive social and cultural disparity in the population. Alternatively, separate
nations support dual citizenship because they believe it heightens the expertise extent of their citizens. This invites free and progressive trade, thus
extending employment opportunities and assisting the nation to establish an international influence (Kundan, 2014).
Advantages of dual citizenship
Privileges and benefits: Dual citizens can obtain the benefits and privileges provided by every single nation. For instance, they have the permission to
use two social service arrangements, are eligible to vote in either nation and may have the capacity to campaign for elections in either nation (subject to
an individual country's laws). In addition, they are granted to have a job in either nation in the absence of an employment permit and can go to school
in either nation at the citizen tuition rate (Jean, n.d.).

Essay About Research Critical Analysis

  • 1. Essay about Research Critical Analysis Journal Article Evaluation: Barinaga, E. (2007) 'Cultural diversity' at work: 'National culture' as a discourse organizing an international project group, Human Relations, 60(2): 315–340. Ester Barinaga's paper on multinational work teams and how they organize themselves using 'national culture' and 'cultural diversity' as discursive resources is critically discussed, with special attention paid to the limitations of her research approach. This review proceeds as follows. First, the theoretical framework is briefly outlined in which Barinaga embeds the specific angle of her research project. Then follows a critical description of the international team she followed, her chosen method of observation and the findings she presents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While she clearly positions her research approach within the wider framework of the field, she fails to mention the Global Leadership and Organizational Behaviour Effectiveness Research Project (GLOBE) initiated by R. House (House et al., 2002). Although its large–scale, quantitative research approach differs from her ethnographic study and takes on the positivist stance she is arguing against, it deserves mentioning as both research projects explore the impact of cultural diversity on organizational processes in multinational work teams. Research Approach Using the term discourse as coined by Foucault (1980), Barinaga explores in–depth how team members make sense of their daily group life by way of their discourse on 'cultural diversity'. To gain insight into the "actors' construction of themselves and others" (Baszanger & Dodier, 1997, in Barinaga, 2007), she therefore chose ethnographic research methods to collect a comprehensive body of qualitative data on one work team with members from five different countries. She closely followed every workshop and communication between meetings over a course of 17 month and recorded meetings, interviewed team members individually and collected all documents produced by or passed around in the group. Additionally she asked each team member via e–mail ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many Australians, the ANZAC troops were the crystallization of the new identity. Following the crystallisation of the new identity, Australians started creating the ideal Australian, making the ideal Australian the traditional ideas of Australian national identity. The ideal Australian was known to be white, working class, sporty, male who were fiercely independent, and practical. It is important that we don't go back to the traditional ideas of Australians national identity. Nationality And Statelessness And The Stateless Nationality and citizenship are central components of human security on the grounds that they give individuals a feeling of having a place and personality. Persons without a nationality are in numerous nations denied various human rights that natives underestimate, in the same way those people lacked from human basic rights, such as access to schools and therapeutic consideration, responsibility for, marriage and establishment of a family and delight in legitimate assurance. All around the world, unfortunately an expected 15 million individuals are viewed as stateless. • 4. Kevin Rudd's Influence On Australian National Identity "The Truth is great evil has been done," Kevin Rudd apologising for the Stolen Generations in 2009 was a huge turning point and an opportunity to change how the Australian National Identity is portrayed in the media. BY GEMMA MCCLINTOCK T he influence of multiculturalism on the Australian national identity is frequently being questioned in the media. Audiences are left questioning whether we as a nation truly do embrace every culture who steps through our doors. Multiculturalism is a vital aspect of the Australian identity and plays a significant role within our day to day life, and is the entire basis on which our nation was developed: after all we are a land of immigrants. Of the 24 million people that call Australia home, approximately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Gold Rush also attracted over 1.3 million people from various countries around the world such as China, Great Britain, Europe and North America. This caused the economy to boom, with the population increase only happening within a short period of time. However this caused a lot of racism with each states having different laws and legislation for the Chinese alone. Most people were very racist towards them as they didn't speak English, they looked funny and they were concerned that Chinese were better at mining. This stigma surrounding the Chinese lasted almost a century. Funnily enough, all cities have at least one Chinese restaurant or cafГ© and it definitely plays a significant part in multiculturalism in Australia. Something that contributes to who we are is our slang. Aussie's shorten everything. "G'day Mate, wanna go to the servo this arvo and we'll pop into the bottlo on our way." • 5. The Major Causes Of Statelessness In The United States Statelessness Nationality in any state is acquired either through birth or application to be a citizen of a particular country. Nationality by birth is automatic if the parents belong to that nation or if the person is born in that nation. However, some people are not recognized as being nationals of any country by its laws. This is a state of statelessness; some may be born stateless or become stateless later in their lives. According to UNHCR reports, over 10 million people could be stateless. It is therefore the interest of this paper to discuss the causes, impacts and solutions to statelessness. Causes of statelessness Statelessness can occur as a result of many factors such as: discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, religious groups or gender, new states emergence, territory transfer and gaps that occur in nationality laws (Bronwen, 2016). Gaps in the laws of nationality vary across nations, which sometimes if not well formulated and followed may leave some people stateless. This a major cause, especially in cases where parents of a child are not known in countries where nationality is acquired on the basis of origin. When people move from their home countries to others risk losing their nationality too. A child born in a foreign country might end up being stateless if that country does not allow attaining nationality based on birth alone. This can also occur if the country involved does not allow obtaining nationality through family ties. Rise of new states is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Where Does Nationalism Come From? Where does nationalism come from? This question has puzzled scholars since the study's inception and is also of vital importance. One only needs to examine modern history to grasp the overarching influence nationalism has had throughout history, especially during the twentieth century. It has sparked conflict and genocide, military campaigns, and civil unrest. Nationalism claims to be of a long heritage, culture, religion (usually at least), and history shared among a specific people group with specific territorial boundaries. However, nations and nationalism as we think of them today did not exist prior to the French Revolution. This dichotomy has led to a polarization of ideas on the subject of nationalism. The policy of multiculturalism in Canada was introduced during 1970's to make sure people don't feel obliged to get rid of their identity on entry to Canada (Howard, 1998, p. 133). Canada has a long history of how its immigration policies came to being. Canadian citizenship and began over a hundred years ago with all manners of racism and legal exclusions. As a result Canada's transmission of citizenship by descent is much stricter than the UK and also different from those of the US (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). At any given time over the past century, almost 3% of the world's people were living outside of their country of birth, suggesting that birthright citizenship is the most acquired citizenship method in the world and almost 97% of the world's population are citizens of the country of their birth (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). Many say that the rules of birthright citizenship could be under–inclusive (for example, a noncitizen who lived in Canada since he/she was an infant and spent their entire life there is still not a citizen) and some say it is over– inclusive (such as a person born in Chicago to a Canadian mother from Toronto, who never set foot in Canada is still a citizen). This opens up a debate about the ideal set of citizenship rules but it also puts an emphasis that there really can't be any perfect set of rules (Macklin & Crepeau, 2010). • 8. The Displacementation Of Refugees Background Every year, hundreds of thousands of families are forcibly removed from their homes because they're unable to pay their rent or mortgage. Their entire family is uprooted and forced to give up all they know because of a few missed payments. They're forced to go stay with a friend or sometimes even forced to live in some kind of shelter that will help them through these times. How do you think that family feels? Now imagine that on a greater scale. Hundreds maybe even thousands of people being forced out of their country due to a war, or some kind of racial discrimination. These people who suffer this are called refugees. Refugees were defined by the United Nations to be people who are not considered as nationals by any state under the operation of its law. They have almost no rights, and due to this, they are also often treated very poorly. Though it is possible for them to move and travel, they have no chance of acquiring citizenship into any country. Refugees have been displaced from their home due to racial discrimination, war tribulations, or for the sake of their own safety. The displacement of refugees is an issue dating back to before WWII. Before the second world war, statelessness referred mainly to the status of the inhabitants of conquered territories because they no longer had a place to which they truly belonged. For example, many Jews became stateless before and during the Holocaust, because the Nuremberg laws stripped them of their German ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Two Ways To Belong In America Summary In Bharati Mukherjee's "Two Ways to Belong in America," she outlines how she and her sister, Mira, came to the United States from India to have a more privileged life while gaining their education and pursuing their dreams. As time went by, changes in immigration laws strickened and it took away benefits from resident aliens. They both realized that changing and becoming an American citizen was necessary in order to achieve the American dream they initially migrated for. Mukherjee (Bharati) was more open minded and she loved America, so she was more willing to stay in America and become a legal citizen. On the other hand, Mira was more reserved with her Indian culture and returning to her homeland, yet she wanted to stay temporarily in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is very significant because it just proves how much she is willing to sacrifice her identity just so she can accomplish her goals as an American citizen. Even so, Mukherjee was "opting for fluidity, self–invention, blue jeans, and Tshirts, and renouncing 3,000 years of cate–observant, 'pure culture' marriage in the Mukherjee family" (273). She embraces the American culture because she acquires conformity from it. Mukherjee's love for America makes her more susceptible to adjust into America to the point where she does not even follow her own Indian tradition. This changes her identity negatively because the more she embraces the American lifestyle, the more she surrenders her Indian heritage. If she did allow herself to gain citizenship while maintaining her Indian culture, perhaps her identity would not be jeopardized, however it is. Mukherjee loses her identity as a traditional Indian since chose the American lifestyle over her own, and hence this reveals the trauma of self–transformation that results from sacrificing one's identity. As opposed to Mukherjee, Mira have no desire to become assimilated into the American society because she wanted to keep her Indianness and marry an Indian man. • 10. Hobsbawm, And Laitin Struggle To Define Nationalism? The complexity of the concepts of nationalism and nations makes them challenging to define concretely. In their quest to find what makes a group a nation, Anderson, Geertz, Hobsbawm, and Laitin struggle to conceptualize the true definition of nationalism. After reading all the different ideas on nationalism, I would loosely define it as a collective sentiment instituted into individuals in the pursuit of development and the greater good. I am not trying to assign a concrete definition to the term given that I do understand that its complexity creates conflict on what nationalism truly encompasses. In my opinion, the author that can include all aspects of nations and nationalism into an overall idea is Anderson. Anderson depicts anation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anderson defines a nation as an "imagined political community"(Anderson 6). He categorizes a nation as being imagined given that most of its citizens do not know of each other, but they all now that they are part of the same community. Likewise, Hobsbawm proposes that for a state to be considered a nation, it has to, "reinforce state patriotism with the sentiments and symbols of imagined community" (Hobsbawm 89). By "imagined community," Hobsbawm means a community united against a same "outsider," and one that shares the same attachments to the country and its "invented flag." The author of, Nations and Nationalism since 1780 proves that boundaries are only imagined to form a state by similarities that bind the invented community together. "The true natural frontiers were not determined by mountains and rivers, but rather by the language, the customs, the memories, all that distinguishes one nation from another" (Hobsbawm 91). • 11. Defining Normative And Subjective Culture We are all defined, and heavily influenced by, the culture in which we have grown and adopted. Culture is defined as "the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group", according to The Oxford Dictionary, and can be separated into two specific classifications known as normative and subjective culture. Normative culture is "the connecting beliefs, values, tradition, economy, political and social institutions, artistic expressions and collective history of various interacting groups of people". Subjective culture, however, represents "a society 's "characteristic way of perceiving its social environment"". My personal culture is emphasized by five categories of subjective culture, including nationality, regional identity, education, social/economic class, and age. Growing up as an American has shaped the culture with which I identify. Nationality, according to The Law Dictionary, is "that quality or character which arises from the fact of a person's belonging to a nation or state. Nationality determines the political status of the individual, especially with reference to allegiance; while domicile determines his civil status. Nationality arises either by birth or by naturalization." • 12. Understanding the Concept of Citizenship Citizenship is a broad term in which has been changed and morphed into a general ideal of a person's belonging to certain state. Although throughout history citizenship has preserved a sturdy ethical link to justice, liberty and democracy. This debate is formed around the ideas of what a person bearing should be in society. Aristotle describes the citizen as 'One who has a share in both the ruling and being ruled' this idea of having input into the running of the state can seen impossible and unimaginable due to citizenship status or government in which the state relays power into. Citizenship defined in a political viewpoint is said to be a series of rights and responsibilities that involve an individual as a member of a political community. This includes, social, economic, civic and political duties and rights. As a member of the state all people have the right to be a citizen, with being a citizen comes these rights and liberties. But this is part of the problem, people who are not legally seen, as citizens are not recognized by the state there placement, treatment and rights become blurred. When defining citizenship we also need to look at other surrounding areas that contribute to the ideal itself such as assimilation, nationality, cultural identity, social integration and the other side of the spectrum, stateless citizenship. Does citizenship provide cultural identity, nationality or just a legal standpoint in which you can physically and legally belong to a country ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Untrue Of Nationalism The term "nationalism," without any context, typically brings to mind images of grandiose pageants and displays of patriotism, conflict between in–groups and out–groups, and general discord when the nationalist sentiment escalates into an all–out conflict, whether simply ideological or more physically violent. Nationalism, a term which often caries an undesirable connotation, is typically defined simply as an association or pride in one's nation which includes a feeling of belonging and identity. Throughout history, this term has typically been applied in a derisive fashion to accuse a group of possessing the commonly–associated traits – ranging from jingoism and xenophobia, to ethnocentrism and racism – which many have come to associate with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general, it is accompanied by the argument that nationalism generates a certain energy or impetus in a society which must be taken out on an "other" or enemy of some sort; thus, the society will locate a suitable (and oftentimes very unlucky) scapegoat which they can direct their nationalistic frustration. However, one could argue that this isn't entirely true. It can, rather, be taken a step further in order to conclude that the people will have a scapegoat chosen for them. This can clearly be seen in the case of the Dominican Republic, whose generalized nationalist xenophobia was honed and directed at a particular target, and consequently diverted from another. Nationalistic movements tend to be supported and led by a single powerful individual or a small group of elites who wish to secure their power (Gagnon, 136). The stereotypes that we only cook our food on barbeques, we all eat vegemite and meat are most definitely false. Australians, like most people in the world, eat whatever their taste buds desire. We still have our 'Bush Tucker', and our regular barbeques, and thanks to our multicultural society, our variety of food has greatly expanded. Speaking of a multicultural society, another negative stereotype regards Australia's intolerance, self–absorbance and ignorance. Citizenship, Religion and Society Policy of the United Kingdom Introduction Religion affects the way in which one of the majority of the world's population structures people live. Many mainstream institutional religions have experienced declining membership, retains power to influence systems of ethnics and morality. Also, religion has a strong connection with integration and migration. Therefore, Europe differs considerably in their responses toward integration and migration–related diversity (Simpson, 235). This is reflected for instance in the time duration with which immigrants can apply for and receive permanent residence and citizenship status. Currently, Switzerland (12 years), Greece and Austria (10 years) are the most difficult countries to obtain citizenship whereas Ireland, the Netherlands and France (five years) have relatively fewer barriers (Lebrun, pg. 144). In England, the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act of 2009 requires a residential status of eight years before being eligible for naturalization. Forcese (2013) notes that in this regard, Bill C–24 also appears to contradict Section Six of Canada's Citizenship Act which holds that "a citizen, whether or not born in Canada, is entitled to all rights, powers and privileges and is subject to all obligations, duties and liabilities to which a person who is a citizen under paragraph 3(1)(a) [born in Canada after 1977] is entitled or subject and has a like status to that of such a person". This section has not yet been amended (Citizenship Act). The authority to revoke citizenship due to a conviction for an offence that occurred "before or after the coming into force of this section [Bill C–24]" (Government of Canada 2014c; Parliament of Canada 2014) fundamentally undermines Section Eleven of the Charter, which protects the right to not be tried or punished again for an offence one has already been found guilty and punished for (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms). The authority granted by this amendment therefore allows the punitive withdrawal of a validly attained citizenship due to crimes committed in the past, which one has already been tried and punished for. Instances similar to this were illustrated in the 1990s when Canadian courts attempted to revoke the Canadian nationality of several peoples accused of Nazi collaboration decades earlier, during World War II (Forcese 2013). • 35. The Pursue Of Nationalism Nationalism claims that a person's identity is obtained from their nation. This ideology dictates that citizens share a "common language, shared cultural traditions, and sometimes religion." Its presence allowed citizens to acquire an identity during a time of growing frustration towards the changing social order and political borders that reforms (political and intellectual) and revolutions left behind. Despite the variability of reforms and revolutions, nationalism has remained static and can serve as a basis for political movements and ideologies that are on opposite sides of the spectrum, e.g. nationalism has served as a basis for both Conservatism and Liberalism. Consequently, I claim that, despite the term being static, it is flexible in its use, i.e., it can be applied to different movements across time. On this basis, I ultimately claim that nationalism as an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meaning it does not change despite it being attributed to opposing movements (that is, movements like the Enlightenment and Romanticism). In the last paragraph I stated that Romanticism was an antidote to the Enlightenment. I also stated Romanticism encouraged people to focus on acquiring a national identity. If Enlightenment ideals are rooted in nationalist thought and Romanticism is the antidote for the Enlightenment then you have to assume that Romanticism is the antidote for the ideology that is rooted in nationalist thought. For the sake of argument, I will assume that an opposition to the "root" of something is an opposition to the thing from which it came from. In other words, if Romanticism opposes the Enlightenment and the Enlightenment is rooted in nationalist thought then Romanticism opposes nationalist thought. How can this be the case? If Romanticism preaches that citizens should acquire a national identity but it subsequently is the antidote for the Enlightenment then we have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Australian Dual Citizenship Essay Australian dual nationals can travel to the US: Malcolm Turnbull The article 'Australian dual nationals can travel to the US' published on the 31st of January 2017 by The Sydney Morning Herald, written by Tom Mrlloy and David Wroe, reflects how Australian citizens with dual citizenship will not be affected by the US's contradicting immigration prohibition. At the Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Turnbull stated that people with dual citizenship are approved to visit the US, despite their beliefs or culture. The main issue raised in this article was that Australian citizens which hold a dual citizenship are not allowed to travel to the US. Mr Turnbull confirmed dual citizenship holders are safe to visit the US with no harm or worry. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never knew citizens from countries, such as, Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran, loss permission to travel to the US, conversely, owning an Australian citizenship. I found this very unfair. I know those countries may have terrorist and dangerous people, but minority is like them, they are still people, like us. In the future, I believe, I would like to support everyone from refugee countries. I would like to take action helping the innocent people, who had nothing to do with the bombing and terrorist attacks. Those five countries withdrawal of dual citizenship could become an on–going issue, affecting my community, as well as, I believe, nationally and internationally. Family connection could be lost or interrupted, causing distress, anger, grief and etc., initiating conflict on the planet. My suggestion to resolve this problem, would be considering or further discussing possible prevention measures being overlooked to avoid the situation from escalating. I believe, everyone in Australia should be treated fairly and have equal rights. I also support people with dual citizenship and background from Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran should be treated the same as all Australian citizens, despite their race or background. I was disappointed with the negative change of the US citizenship rights, as a young boy with a dual Iranian – Australian citizenship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. True Australian Identity Essay Is it the bush, kangaroos and the red sand? Or is the scorching sun, beach and sunscreen? These images are often used to describe Australia but what about the Australian identity? Throughout the various stages of Australian history, Australians have attempted to grab onto an identity that makes them unique and able to bond with another fellow Australian. This has not always been easy, given the diversity that has grown over the centuries and the definition of the true Australian identity has changed over time. The typical Australian is known to be "fair, laid back, democratic and having a dry and anti–authoritarian sense of humour. These descriptions are often identified with Australians who are born in this country, however there is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would be too simplistic to claim that the true Australian identity could be defined by examining the indigenous communities that existed before European settlement. It is also unrealistic to just focus on British colonies that developed from convict settlements or the towns that attracted free settlers from Britain and Europe who were seeking a better life. Perhaps the only idea which can be retained from these early times is the concept of seeking a better, which is a common aspect of Australian identity within those who have come from across the seas toAustralia. Those who came during the Gold Rushes, the bushrangers who lived a life of crime, the Europeans who fled poverty or the evil of World War One or two, all held onto the idea that Australia provided an opportunity for something better. This is something that was present hundreds of years ago and is still present in those who come from Asia or Middle East by boat every year risking their lives. This concept is presented through the character of Ricky Wong in we can be heroes who is doing a PhD in physics and aiming at becoming an actor. Ricky proves that it is a part of Australian identity to hope of a better life and to explore as many opportunities as possible. So this is another aspect of our identity, the courage to face challenge and take risks is a quality that many Australians value and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Advantages Of Dual Citizenship Also known as "multiple citizenship" or "dual nationality", dual citizenship refers to one who is a legal citizen in two different countries, at the same time. One is able to retain his or her citizenship from their home country, and attain another citizenship at the same time. However, this is applicable only if both countries permit dual citizenship. As a dual citizen, one can have privileges such as easy access to multiple countries without a visa. But as a dual citizen, one has to fulfill their duties towards both countries, such as paying tax to both countries. There are over 90 countries that grant dual citizenship, some of them are United Kingdom, United States and Canada. Dual citizenship can occur under many circumstances, and... It will be difficult for foreigners to blend in with the native citizens; the foreigners will have to follow the customs and ways of the natives. But problems will arise when foreigners do not engage themselves in the country fully, and view the country as a place for them to make a living. As a Singaporean, I feel that the local government should not allow dual citizenship. Dual citizenship can be a wonderful thing, as one can enjoy the perks of being a citizen from all over the world. However, citizenship is something that should not be taken for granted. Singapore is a country bounded by many strict laws and fines. If dual citizenship is allowed, who can guarantee that Singaporeans would not pack their bags and leave for another country, which can offer the same benefits and more freedom? During times of war, which country, will one, defends? Which country has a higher priority? If Singapore is plagued by disasters or economic recessions, will Singaporeans remain in Singapore or leave with their dual citizenship? By allowing dual citizenship, the sense of loyalty towards Singapore is reduced. • 39. Dual Citizenship : A Citizen Of More Than A Country What is dual citizenship? Dual citizenship is an individual's citizenship position, in which an individual is jointly considered to be a citizen of more than a country under the legislations of those countries ("Multiple citizenship", n.d.). Multiple citizenship results as dissimilar nations utilize dissimilar basis for citizenship (' Multiple citizenship", n.d.). Numerous nations have not permitted dual citizenship since they believe that it will represent a growth in the immigration of foreigners, inflated lawbreaking rates, fewer job possibilities for their citizens, and an extensive social and cultural disparity in the population. Alternatively, separate nations support dual citizenship because they believe it heightens the expertise extent of their citizens. This invites free and progressive trade, thus extending employment opportunities and assisting the nation to establish an international influence (Kundan, 2014). Advantages of dual citizenship Privileges and benefits: Dual citizens can obtain the benefits and privileges provided by every single nation. For instance, they have the permission to use two social service arrangements, are eligible to vote in either nation and may have the capacity to campaign for elections in either nation (subject to an individual country's laws). In addition, they are granted to have a job in either nation in the absence of an employment permit and can go to school in either nation at the citizen tuition rate (Jean, n.d.). Two ...
