Essay About Divorce
Crafting an essay on the topic of divorce can be an emotionally charged and intellectually
demanding task. This subject delves into the complexities of human relationships, societal norms,
and the profound impact that marital dissolution can have on individuals and families. Writing
about divorce requires a delicate balance between empathy and objectivity, as it involves
exploring sensitive issues such as the breakdown of trust, emotional turmoil, and the aftermath of
legal proceedings.
One of the challenges is navigating through the vast array of perspectives on divorce, each
shaped by personal experiences, cultural influences, and societal expectations. The writer must
consider not only statistical data and research findings but also the deeply personal narratives of
those who have gone through the process. Striking the right tone is crucial, as the essay should
neither romanticize nor demonize divorce but rather offer a nuanced understanding of its
multifaceted nature.
Addressing the psychological and emotional aspects of divorce requires a keen awareness of the
profound impact on individuals, especially children caught in the midst of family restructuring.
Writing about these emotional dimensions necessitates a certain level of sensitivity and an ability
to convey the human stories behind the statistics.
Furthermore, delving into the legal and societal aspects of divorce demands a thorough
understanding of the varied legal systems and cultural norms worldwide. Analyzing the historical
evolution of divorce laws, their societal implications, and potential reforms adds another layer of
complexity to the essay. Moreover, tackling the socio-economic repercussions and potential
stigmas associated with divorce adds depth to the analysis.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of divorce requires a careful balance of analytical
thinking, empathy, and a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted issues involved. It demands
a writer's ability to navigate through emotional landscapes, legal intricacies, and societal
perspectives while maintaining a coherent and insightful narrative.

The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly
migratory behavior and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS
and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate
regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998).
In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as
threatened throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the
main threats to the loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell
or as food; the eggs were considered a desired food item and protein source.
Regulations were put in place to protect the loggerhead sea turtle such as prohibition
of foreign commerce, importation, and exportation ... Show more content on

Figure 1. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch
rates in SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea
Turtles. From NMFS 2001. Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to
the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats include coastal development, erosion control
barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution, removal of native vegetation,
and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some solutions include
protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction,
implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose
regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an
important threat to consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. Many places have
depredation to protect the eggs and hatchlings against predators such as feral dogs,
raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007).
The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses,
one looked at counts of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based
population model done to look at the anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the
vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009). Using these analyses, it was
determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater likelihood of
quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico

Telus: The Cost of Capital
Business 3019
Synopsis

Two managers attending an executive education course attempt to develop a cost of
capital estimate for a leading telecommunications company, Telus The two managers
are somewhat confused about the costs of various sources of capital, the calculation
of the overall cost of capital and the appropriate use of the hurdle rate

What Does Cost of Capital Mean?
пЃµ
Cost of capital is what it will cost the firm, on the margin, today, to secure its financial
resources for further growth.
Cost of capital must reflect current capital market conditions (current required

Since Telus uses both long term bonds and short term notes, the current required rates

debt is approximately 3.8%: $317 million of interest / $8,361 million of debt.
However, this calculation is misleading since the 2000 debt is much larger than the
1999 debt of $2,270 (not in the case). You should ask yourself...should you use
current yields or historical yields when calculating the cost of debt? Current yield
figures should be used because Telus is considering
The Culture of Talk Shows Essay
The Culture of Talk Shows If social order is not a given, if it is not encoded in our
DNA, then to some extent we are always in the process of producing virtual realities,
some more functional than others.
Habits, routines, and institutions are the patterns that create the world taken for
granted. Knowledge of how to behave is contained in cultural scripts that are
themselves products of human interaction and communication about the nature of
reality. Shame, guilt, embarrassment are controlling feelings that arise from speaking
the unspeakable and from violating cultural taboos. Society is a result of its
boundaries,of what it will and won t allow.

Rather than being mortified, ashamed, or trying to hide their stigma, guests willingly

effort to seek understanding for their particular disease.
Yet these people remain caricatures, plucked out of the context of their real lives,
unimportant except for their entertaining problem. (In real life someone might
question the benefits of publicly confessing to people who really don t care about
you or don t have the expertise to give advice. Exploitation, voyeurism, peeping
Toms, freak shows all come to mind.)
The central distortion that these shows propound is that they give useful therapy
to guests and useful advice to the audience. And that they are not primarily
designed to extract the most riveting and most entertaining emotional displays
from participants. This leads to such self serving and silly speeches by hosts as: I

They spend weeks on end away from parents, wives, and children. These athletes

With neither side was willing to bend, the Seahawks and Galloway created an
awful situation. The Seahawks were without their best receiver. Each side of this
situation stated they wanted to resolve this matter but nothing was done. Galloway
should be commended for sticking to his game plan. He is arguably one of the top
five receivers in the NFL if not the better and should hold out if he believes he is not
being paid a fair market value. But holding out may have backfired on Galloway.
In Galloway s existing contract there is a clause that states that if Galloway were
to hold out the entire season the Seahawks would have rights to him for 2 more
seasons. This means the only way Galloway can leave after the 1999 season is if
the Seahawks were to trade him. Knowing this, and also seeing how well the team
is doing without him through October of 1999. Galloway elected to come back to
the team and end his 102 day holdout. This enables Galloway to become a free agent
at the end of the season and test the market to see
La Vita E Bella Themes
La Vita Г© Bella (Life is Beautiful) directed by Roberto Benigni is a film test of
resiliency in a light and humorous way but dark at the same time in the settings of
WW2. The main character Guido Orefice is a fun, sharp Jewish guy who alongside
his beautiful wife, Dora and his son GiosuГ© are taken away into the Nazi
concentration camp. The filmhighlights many themes, which enables the audience to

stereotypes and power structures, the loss of identity and the power of love. Each of

persecution and killing of Jews. Viewers understand how the context affects the
way of thinking and behaving of its victims. In the concentration camp. Guido
made up a game for his son to protect him from the harsh reality and the cruelty of
the Nazis. When Guido hides GiosuГ© in the box, the father is seen from a low
angle and their faces are lit. Everything else is in darkness but they are bright and
novel amidst all this chaos. Guido s preservance of finishing the game resulted in
his execution. Although viewers do not see him being shot, the blue illumination

one. As GiosuГ© comes out into the world, there is a wide shot of his small hiding
place compared to the enormity of the situation he is in, also known as the Final
Solution. At daybreak the prisoners emerge in the absence of music. Only the
shuffling of feet can be heard; humanity survives. The wide shot emphasises the
scale of suffering. Prisoners often emerge in pairs. The moral of the story is that you
can t destroy love. Music is triumphant and upbeat as the prisoners walk away down
the hill. A final freeze frame and a text stating Abbiamo Vinto! (We Won!) is shown
as GiosuГ© unites with his mother. Colours of the Italian countryside are bright and

Hero And Leander Interpretation
D.Interpretation
Christopher Marlowe s narrative poem which is entitled Hero and Leander
basically is a romantic and tragic poem. Both Ovid and the grammarian poet
Musaeus are sources for Marlowe s story. Leander and Hero are lovers separated by
the ill famed Hellespont (now the Dardanelles). As the title, the poem tells the readers
about Hero and Leander in 818 lines total. Christopher Marlowe described both the
characters detail about their appearance within the poem, their physical appearance
such as how handsome Leander is and how beautiful Hero is, those are written in the
beginning of the poem.
If we see further, at the very first beginning of the poem, Marlowe shows the
influence of Greek mythological in his narrative poem. It is because ... Show more

In this poem, the special event is on the looks in the eyes of the lovers, the words
they speak to each other, and the embraces they attempt to do. The realistic touches
(such as Leander attempting, by sophistry, to convince Hero to sleep with him) are
charming, and remind the reader that these two are not simply iconic lovers from the
distant past. Hero and Leander are compelling because their reactions (even the less
than truthful words of Hero, as she attempts to hold off Leander) are innocent and
based on universal human emotions. Marlowe took a story from Greek myths intact,
but made the characters believable for the audiences during the Elizabethan
DBQ Essay On Reconstruction
Reconstruction DBQ Essay A truly united America has been created. Let s hope that
our Reconstruction bridges this condition perfectly. Such a senatorial speech fell to
be false. Instead of fulfilling Lincoln s dream, Reconstruction turned out to be a
complete failure as it divided both sides (again) and created an irreversible shift.
Officially, Reconstruction is recognized to have an end, not by success, but by
disaster. Unlike what is often thought amongst people, the actual death of
Reconstruction was caused by both sides of America; in other words, Southern
resistance and Northern neglect. At first, Southern resistance triggered the conclusion
of Reconstruction through its formation of internal terrorists. This claim is supported

However, the most likely target to blame is the side of the South. The North actually
assisted in the progression of Reconstruction by legalizing the 13th, 14th, and 15th
amendments which abolished slavery, ensured that blacks were equal to whites, and
prohibited suffrage based on race creating laws to enforce the amendments through
military force, establishing black churches, schools, and universities like Howard,
Fisk, Morehouse, and Hampton. (Background Essay) Without these endeavors, higher
education for blacks would have perished and the numerous contributions of African
Americans would have been erased throughout history. With all these evidences to
support the North s innocence, the South is more responsible as it actively fought
against the North through the KKK, contemptible leaders, and illegal solutions, such
as poll taxes to react to the South s greatest obstacle the 15th amendment. As the
South protested relentlessly to bolster their need for a modern slave society, the
North forfeited and allowed the South to regain its previous condition as they knew
Reconstruction was beginning to wilt. If the South transferred their tenacity to join
hands with their brothers up north, our current world wouldn t have issues resulting
from segregation. A possibility of an accepting country was offered to the South, but
the South rejected it. As such, the era
Using Rigid Panels Like Plywood
Concrete has no opinion about its shape; a gloppy material, it will take any shape
give it, as long as it s given time to cure. Traditionally, concrete is cast using rigid
panels like plywood. Although reinforce concrete become the standard in the last
decades, few of its potentialities have been fully exploited. Apart from the
unconquerable inertia of our minds, which do not seem to be able to adopt freely
new ideas, the main cause of this delay is a trivial technicality: the need to prepare
wooden forms (Nervi, 1956, p. 95). Most industrial material are produced through
single axis mills. This produced uniform surface. The obvious exceptions are cast
materials such as concrete. But if concrete is cast into molds made of rigid, flat
material produced by milling, the result will likely be flat and straight forms.
Fabric formwork is a building technique that uses structural membranes as the main
material for concrete molds. Unlike traditional formwork, fabric formwork is
highly flexible and can deflect under the pressure of concrete. The results are
variety of shapes that are not normally associated with concrete. As buildings
become more complex, there is an increasing demand for molding creative and
organic forms. Concrete, theoretically, is the perfect material to make a variety of
shape. Fresh concrete can be shaped in different types of formwork. The visual
appearance and effect of fabric formed concrete is strikingly different from that of
conventional concrete

The Great Depression Of The 1920 S
Following WW I in the 1920 s, there was a decade of an economical explosion. The
post war era brought about many changes. Businesses showed great profits,
migration to big cities of industrial companies occurred with the hopes of making a
better life, people were given the opportunity to purchase things on credit, while
others borrowed money making poor decisions buying high priced stocks with the
intention of selling stocks for a profits to repay lenders. When Black Tuesday
occurred on October 29, 1929, this marked the beginning of the Great Depressionthat
left devastating economic hardships for the American people. Although it was always

S. and other countries that had industries charged high import taxes on good that
were offered for sale. These taxes prevented counties from selling the goods they
needed to earn the money to repay loans to the U.S. banks. In a three year period
over 9,000 banks went bankrupt or had to close their doors to avoid bankruptcy
which led to a decline in purchasing powers. When the banks started failing people
lost their saving because the banks were uninsured. The banks weren t as willing to
offer new loans.
At the same time this was occurring, there was the distribution of unequal income.
Businesses were showing great profits during the 1920 s, however the working class
only got a small portion of this wealth with their low wages. People with low incomes
purchased merchandise on credit. People thought that they had more money to spend
on materialistic possessions using credit. Advertising increased, enticing people with
the buy now, pay later slogan which in turn caused many consumers to accumulate so
much debt that were unable to keep up with payments on the items they purchased,
and they were repossessed. Once the slowing of manufactured goods occurred,
inventory accumulated and there was a backlog of purchasing merchandise which
caused even less spending that didn t help the economy.
Another problem contributing to the Depression was the epic drought that occurred
in 1930. During WWI, thousands of farmers migrated to the Great Plains area
because of its rich

Gothic Architecture is one of the most defined, underrated beauties in the world. To a
lot of people this kind of architecture may almost be overthought or forgotten to our
modern culture. However, this kind of architecture is more popular in Europe. Gothic
Architecture has been able to inspire millions of people. It has been able to inspire

The buildings designed with gothic architecturespeaks directly to the emotions.
People who may not know anything about gothic architectureor the gothic period,
would still look at these buildings that have this kind of architecture and be

materials, time, skill, and talent it took to be able to make and design these buildings

sympathetic to this story as he, himself, was a fugitive from the law and, using
various Australian landscape scenes as a backdrop, transcended his own conflict

The land has a lot to do with Australia, the way that its identity may have developed
might be through its isolation and our slow understanding and respect for it.
Landscape pieces by other artists at this time depict the land in a much different
light than Nolan. Lawson s The Drover s Wife has a woman dressed in dull clothing,
standing alone, highlighting her isolation in the Australian outback. Whereas Preston
s abstract landscape Flying Over The Shoalhaven River depicts the land to be an
inviting and welcoming place. Henry Lawson, The Drover s Wife, 1945 Margaret

The Contingency Model Of Leadership
Contingency model of leadership
The model suggests that there are certain contingency factors that dictate how the
various leadership approaches should be chosen. The contingency factors are follower
development, task structure and situational urgency. The various leadership
approaches include the directive, transformational and empowering, and transactional.
Each of this leadership approach in turn leads to emergence of results that are a
specific combination of the predictable outcomes that include the levels of the
follower involvement, creativity, dependence and psychological empowerment. Also
worth noting are the research propositions that are based on the model and the
discussion of the models practical implications along with the possible approaches for
the empirically testing its specific linkages. The contingency mode; of leadership has
the ability to cope with the external demanding environment as this is exhibited by
thorough analysis. The contingency theory of ... Show more content on

Leadership plays a critical role in the modern organizations since he or she possesses
the view that will thus help the organizations to cope with the usually highly dynamic

significant since the leaders have the potential to influence the members of the
organization as a whole. The contingency model has contributed to the recent
literatures in three most significant ways. Firstly, the model significantly integrates
the contingency factors, leadership approaches and the outcomes or results into a
single model. Secondly, the leadership model makes the practical contribution by
providing the various practitioners with the proper framework to work on in the
field. Most importantly, this model provides the basis on which it may be decided
where or when the concept of self leadership may be
A Good Example Of The Education Reform
The education reformed that happened that changed this nation for the better giving
them hope. The children reading and writing for themselves. People that enjoy
teaching the children giving them the attention and help they need and along the way

As a public school student, I think that reform is needed because we need change in
the nation we need to get rid of things and replace them with new things . Change the
direction in which things are happening good examples of this are education reform,
Jail reform, and female equal rights reform. These all played a really big roll in the
nation changing for the better.

Power In Wicked Maguire
Words such as strength, control, and ability may come to mind when one thinks of
the word power, but power is a word that does not only bring words to mind. The
word power can also bring to mind vivid images. Images such as a superhero

humanity. It is apparent through human s actions, that life revolves around gaining

Transformation In Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre written by Charlotte BrontС‘, is about a young woman s life in the late
1700 s. In the novel, the reader learns of Jane Eyre s life as an orphan, student,
governess, and wife. As a young woman in the late 1700 s, Jane experiences an
immense amount of pressure and oppression from those superior to her; almost
everyone was superior to her. From childhood to adulthood, the readers witness the
transformation of Jane s confidence, opinions, and experiences. Jane Eyreis
considered a Bildungsromannovel because of these age progressions and
transformations in the story.
When Jane was a child, she lived with her Aunt and cousins, John, Georgiana, and
Eliza in their home called Gateshead. Jane s parents had died and she supposedly
had no other family, so her uncle insisted on taking her, but shortly died after and
Jane was left in the care of Mrs. Reed, her aunt. Throughout her time there, Jane
became the target of physical and verbal abuse, especially from her Aunt and John.
Jane remained obedient and quiet with little protest because it would only bring
her more trouble to be rowdy. She was considered a burden, and was oppressed
through everything she did. After being attacked by John, Mrs. Reed punished Jane
instead of him; she got locked away in a room where her uncle died and eventually
fainted from anxiety and panic. Ever since that experience, Jane acted more
rebellious and outspoken to Mrs. Reed and even lashed out at her, speaking about
every terrible thing Mrs.
John Locke Primary Qualities
John Locke is an English philosopher and the author of An Essay Concerning Human
Understanding. Locke argues that realities can be divided into two qualities: Primary
Qualities and secondary qualities. The primary qualities are solidity, extension,
solidity, extension, figure, mobility, quantity and texture while the secondary
qualities are color, taste, and sound. According to Locke, primary qualities
resemblance to the object ... The ideas of primary qualities of bodies are

(II. VIII. XV). The secondary qualities do not resemblance to the object ... But the
ideas produced in us by these secondary qualities have no resemblance of them at all.
There is nothing like our ideas, existing in the bodies themselves. (II. VIII. XV).
Locke uses an example of hot water and cold water. Locke explains why one hand
is cold, but to others is warm, ideas being thus distinguished and understood, we may
be able to give an account how the same water; at the same time, may produce the

Susan Minot Summary
LUST.
Having read the story written by Susan Minot we come across a rather complicated
character, to be precise the narrator herself. The girl in the story has been studying
in the boarding school. It is the educational establishment of close type, so the
process of growing proceeds differently. For example if we compare the girls from
public schools and the girls from boarding schools the latest will be more dissolute.
The main reason for this is the closed social environment which fluencies the young
girls minds. So let us look closer at the narrator she was ...good at such things like
math or painting or even sports, but the second a boy put his arm around her, she
forgot about wanting to do anything else... This phrase indicates the author s real
attitude towards men and studying. She loved being in relationships with young
boys. Moreover, while being in the boarding school she had at least 5 or 6 partners.
At the same time the narrator stresses that: Lots of boys, but never two at the same
time. One was plenty to keep you in a state. So for her a man is a tool, which can
keep her in shape. To our way of thinking it is a rather thoughtless attitude towards the
relationship. Furthermore, from the conversation with the headmistress Mrs. Gunther
it becomes obvious that the narrator is astonished having known that she has had
only the one man for her life. But to be honest the headmistress has her own
understanding of the relations between the man and the woman, and it is

The Jungle By Upton Sinclair Essay
A wealthy nation is not a prosperous nation, as a nation can be prosperous without
being wealthy. Wealth can be defined as capital or vice versa as having properties
or resources and turning it into money. A country that is wealthy can have both rich
and poor people living in it. There is an upper class, middle class and lower class,
which individuals are associated to. We all know that individuals in the upper class
have more resources, materials, properties and more money than the middle and
lower class. The position that Upton Sinclairtakes is that a wealthy nation isn t a
prosperous nation as many immigrants worked in horrible conditions and lived in
miserable areas in her book The Jungle . I claim that a wealthy nation isn t a
prosperous nation because people have to look at the quality of human life and
factors such as education, health care, inequality, basic needs, social goods and
literacy are key aspects in determining if a wealthy nation is a prosperous nation.
The first body paragraph of my essay will be focusing on Gross Domestic Productand
how it is not the best way to determine if a country is wealthy or not. Also it will be
addressing the issues of Qatar which is the richest nation and has the highest per
capita. The second body paragraph will illustrate the drive for capital by Heilbroner
and how it can produce wealthor misery. Upton Sinclair book The Jungle is a good
example as it shows how Jurgis left Lithuania to go to America to become a wealthy
Descriptive Language In The House Of The Scorpion By

Anton Chekhov once said, Don t tell me the moon is shining; show me through the
glint of light on broken glass . He was trying to show the importance of descriptive
language in a story. It says that instead of just saying what it is, describe it, or show
it, to the reader. In the story The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author
uses descriptive language to develop the setting, and similes and metaphors to
develop the setting as well. There are many examples of descriptive language in the
book, so it makes you visualize what s happening in the story in detail. One example
is, The surface of the sawdust combed smooth, the treasures hidden beneath marks
that only he, the king, understood. You can visualize the sawdust on ground,
What Is Tap Water Healthier Than Bottled Water
People should do more to avoid drinking bottled water because tap water is safe and
healthier than bottled water, then second reason is tap water take less consumption to

affect environment as bottled water. Tap water is safe and healthier than bottled water
because it is tasted everyday by municipal water supply while bottled water plant are

are required to test coliform bacteria just once a week but municipal water system
does it several times in a day. A research done by Dr. William shotyk found that PET

The Nose By Nikolai Gogol
The Nose The Nose by Nikolai Gogol was incredibly strange to me. That is not to
say that I did not enjoy it. Really, I am just unsure of how I feel about it because it
was so strange that I do not know how to wrap my mind around it. I did enjoy how
whimsical and silly it was, though. I was not sure what to expect from this story,
but it certainly was not what I experienced. I believe that a very prominent theme
in this story is the struggles in society relating to classes. One of the things that
Gogol most often points out is the dress and ranking of the characters in this story.
For instance, the barber Ivan Yakovlevitch is described as a very dirty man who
does not care about his appearance, probably emphasizing his lower class ranking.
Kopek is described as very well dressed and has a somewhat higher ranking of
Major. Meanwhile, when he spots his nose masquerading as a very high ranked
man, it is dressed exquisitely. The nose draws envy of everyone with its
appearance and apparent rank. The ludicrousness of a nose causing envy and
admiration and fear in people, even in Kopek who owns it, really emphasizes how
ridiculous Gogol perceives the class system to be. In fact, the nose seems to
represent a sort of superiority complex to me. Obviously, it is possible that this was
not Gogol s intention, but the use of a nose seems metaphorical to stuck up ness. In
the description of the nose I think of people who stick their noses up in the air at
people because they
The Yellow Birds By Kevin Powers
Athletes train for countless hours in hopes to help their teams win games, but
sometimes they can t always come out on top. Students put in long hours studying
for tests attempting to earn a good grade. There are times where that effort is
rewarded with a poor grade. Gifts are bought with the idea that whoever is receiving
the present is going to love it, but the buyer realizes that they messed up because the
gift is absolutely hated. These are examples of instances where people were trying to
do good things but ultimately failed. In the novel, The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers
you see characters that have the intent to do good, but come up short and fail.
Everybody has instances throughout their lives where they will try extremely hard,
but fail in the end. A lot of these instances may even be just the smallest things, but
when they happen it is never a good feeling. You will get feelings of disappointment,
and anger, but the problems that occur in Kevin Power s book are much more than
that. The book The Yellow Birds is a fictional story, but the thing
that makes it so
good is that the author was in the warhimself. Even though this great story is made
up, Kevin Powers definitely had an advantage on explaining how powerful the war
really was on people. What was written in the book could be very similar to things
he had experienced himself while he served our country. Just by reading his fight
scenes he had written about, you can tell he knew what he was talking about
Alka Seltzer Lab Report
The research question for the Alka Seltzer Lab is, What is the effect of different
surface areas of an Alka Seltzer tablets reaction time? . Inside of an Alka Seltzer
tablet there are two key ingredients; which are citric acid and baking soda. When a
tablet is dropped into a liquid, the acid and baking soda show a physical reaction of
fizzing and eventually dissolving. Materials needed for this lab was goggles, aprons,
beakers, water of the same temperature, mortar pestle, and three alka seltzer tablets.
In each beaker there was 150 mL of water. The first tablet was a full tablet, the
second was broken into quarters, and the last tablet was crushed in a mortar pestle.
The dependent variable of the lab was the rate of reaction, and the independent
Correlation Between Satisfaction And Pain Intensity
The considerable interest in satisfaction related to pain as an outcome variable waned
after investigators studied postoperative and cancer patients and found poor
correlations between satisfaction and pain intensity. In these studies, patients
commonly reported moderate to severe pain ( 4 on a 0 10 scale), but indicated they
were satisfied with their painmanagement (Cohen, 1980; Dawson et al., 2002;
Jamison, Taft, O Hara, Ferrante, 1993; Miaskowski, Nichols, Brody, Synold, 1994).
These findings are counter intuitive, and authors have speculated about explanations
for the inconsistency. Not many authors, however, have considered the validity of the
satisfaction item. Most investigators measured satisfaction with pain management,
not pain intensity, but the former is a vague concept that could be interpreted many
ways. A few investigators measured satisfaction with pain relief or satisfaction with
pain level in small samples (Corizzo, Baker, Henkelmann, 2000) and did not observe
the inconsistency that investigators observed when measuring satisfaction with pain
management. Canceris a common health problem frequently associated with pain
and is an important illness condition for studying patient satisfaction. The incidence
of patients with cancer is on the rise both nationally and worldwide with projected
global numbers for 2030 at 21.4 million new cases and 13.2 million deaths per year
(Boyle, 2008). Pain is a major symptom in 40 50% of newly diagnosed patients

Examples Of Assimilation In The Bread Givers
During the early nineteenth century, families of immigrants undergo assimilation to
unite themselves in American customs. The ideology that they will be accepted into
a society and embrace American identities has driven them to this process. A reality

author who portrays the temptation of this New World America for the Jewish

Contributions Of Jane Adddams
Jane Addams was considered the first woman to be a public philosopher and won
worldwide recognition for her movement as a pioneer social worker in America, a
feminist, and as an internationalist. Additionally, Jane Addams was born September 6,
1860 in Cedarville, Illinois; she was the eighth children of nine. Growing up, Addams
was not physically healthy throughout her youth, she suffered from spinal difficulty,
but was later in time it was remedied by a surgery. In addition, it can be said that
Addams lived a privileged life, her father had various important relationships, some
even included President Abraham Lincoln. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia,
Addams was in the minority among her peers in philosophy or feminism to believe
that working class immigrant women not only should be given a voice but also had
something important to contribute to the community of ideas (Hamington, 828).
Moreover, Jane Addamswas undecided on what life path she will choose.
Consequently, Addams attended and graduated from Rockford Female Seminary in

According to NASA climate change will keep happening in the future unless we do
something. Also The US Department of the Interior claims that these changes are
causing drastic challenges for animals and their surroundings
Humans are proven to be the main cause of climate change. This is because when we
cut down trees it s causing the greenhouse effect. This is when the atmosphere is
getting thicker and trapping the heat inside and around our Earth.
The greenhouse effect has affected more than we think about. For one with it getting
warmer the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article Scientists Agree: Global Warming is Happening and Humans
are the Primary Cause, Climate change is affecting food and water availability and
human health, further burdening economies and societies
This isn t good for us and anyone in the future. And a study from NASA proved that
Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal
ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.
NASA states, that some places even with the climate changing won t be affected, but
most will. So, unless you live in those few spots that won t be affected your looking
at a different life unless we help stop it.
Some people may argue that there is no evidence to support Climate Change. This
argument is wrong because, scientists have done research and tests to prove that
climate change is real and happening right now.
People might not agree with climate change, but according to NASA the Arctic
ocean at this rate will eventually become ice free. That s crazy can you imagine the
Arctic Ocean that has a ton of ice in it right now could become ice

Hypothalamus has a significant effect on the physiological functions of human body
like Hunger regulation, Energy balance etc. A mathematical model is being
developed which mathematically explains the functionality of Hunger Regulation.
Some hormones also acts effectively during this process plays as important role in
this model. Hypothalamic Hunger RegulationMathematical Model (HhRM). We are

This Hunger Regulation process is simulated with the help of Hypothalamic Hunger
Regulating Mathematical Model (HhRM)[2]. HhRM is a mathematical approach for
this homeostatic function of human body.HhRM divided into five different steps.
Each step represents the combination of mathematical functions and variables. A
simple binary function G (h) shows that whether the hormones are secreted by
internal organs or not. The hormonal signals explain by the random
numbers.Daubechies Wavelet function interprets the movement of Hormonal signals
through Vegal Nerve. The response to the Hormonal Signals is being generated by the
hypothalamic receptors. For this the concept of signal generation is used with scaling
function with Entropy. The receptors signals transferred to Central Nervous system.
The mathematical model HhRM is as follows: dH/dt = G^ (h)+f(h)D4^ (h)+ Em(s)Sc
(s)
WheredH/dtis the change in the processing of Hypothalamus, H with respect to Time
t, G(h) is the binary function f(h) is fractal function, D4 (h) is the Daubechies
function, Em(s) is entropy measure and Sc (s) scaling function.
2. Objective
The objective of our study is to optimize the mathematical model HhRM. In previous
version of HhRM the simple scaling function was being used. Here our objective is

Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) Infection
Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is the small period of time
after a person has been exposed to HIV and before they have seroconverted.
Seroconversion is the process in which the body starts to create antibodies to fight
the HIV virus (Pietrangelo, 2013). During this period of time, which is usually a few
days, the virus replicates rapidly. The rapid replication results in extremely high
amounts of HIVin the blood because the body has not had time to respond to the
infection. As the viral load increases more CD4 white cells are destroyed. CD4 cells
are a responsible in protecting the body from infection. When these cells are
destroyed they no longer are able to adequately activate the body s immune system.

Signs/symptoms of Acute HIV Infection Including H P
Not all patients with HIV will have signs or symptoms during the acute infection
phase. If a patient is having symptoms they can often times think that they have the
flu. Acute HIV infection symptoms can show up 2 4 weeks after exposure and last
from a few days to several weeks (Cherney, 2014). If they are exhibiting symptoms
they may present as having a fever, swollen lymph nodes, skin rashes, myalgia,
diarrhea, oral ulcers or thrush, and fatigue. Lab results may also show leukopenia,
thrombocytopenia, or an elevation in transaminase (DHHS, 2015). Differential
diagnoses include the flu or Epstein Barr Virus since these also present with similar
symptoms.
A thorough health history must be taken with patients before an exam in order to
identify risk behavior. Important things to ask about are sexual history, partners and
possible exposures, any drug use (especially intravenously), and any current STI s
(HRSA, 2014). Upon physical exam things to look for or may see with an acute HIV
infection would be ecchymosis, purpura, petechiae, Kaposi sarcoma,
lymphadenopathy, oral candidiasis, or hepatosplenomegaly (Aberg et al., 2014).
Cultural Implications The numbers of new HIV infections per year has remained
relatively the same since the 1990 s (CDC, 2015). Out of
The Peat Extraction From The Bog
From the results presented it is a clear indicator that human activity is having a
profound effect on Monivea Bog. The peat extraction from the bog is having a
dramatic effect on the natural environment. The digitizing of the bog using GIS 10.3
was a simplistic method that visually provides how much peatis being extracted from
the Bog. The reasons behind the extraction was pointed out by Cruickshank et al,
1995, suggesting that peat extraction is part of an Irish culture which humans use the
peat as fuel and horticulture. The peat extraction evidently has an impact on the
carbon content loss, hydrochemistry, peat depth, geology and vegetation as pointed
out in the results.
The conductivity results for Monivea Bog shows that there is ... Show more content

From the results there is an interaction between hydrology, vegetation and depth. The
lower depths had a lack of vegetation, less surface water and high levels of
conductivity. This suggests that vegetation is unable to deal with living at low depths
on the bog and this is due to four factors. Firstly, the high conductivity suggests that
the water is toxic for the sphagnum mosses to survive. The nutrient cycle is highly
disturbed and there is no oxygen available for sphagnum mosses to grow.
It was interesting to identify that there was no open lake in the bog in 1867, it is
not known how this open lake has developed on the west side of the bog. It is
almost impossible to observe or analysis the development of open water pools
(Belyea Lancaster, 2002). However, for this study, from the analysis of the
geological profile and depths it is predicated that the pool was formed from
subsidence of drainage and peat extraction. As Zanello et al (2011) points out that
subsidence depends on how the water table is managed on the site. In Monivea
Bog the water table was lowered to dry up the peat so it can be extracted by
humans. Furthermore, Zanello et al (2011) also suggests that subsidence is driven by
bio chemical oxidation of the organic fraction in peat. The predicted subsided open
water pool in Monivea Bog due support the sphagnum mosses. However, the water
table being significantly below has caused reduced growth, desiccation and high
mortality rates of

Sports Performance Evaluation Ioan Stoian National...
Exercise is termed as an activity requiring physical effort to improve health and
fitness. Scientists can use fitness as a measure to compare one person to another
(Haskel). Fitness tests can be conducted in a field or lab based setting (Point of care
athlete testing, a new approach of sport performance evaluation Ioan Stoian National
Institute of Sports Medicine, Bucharest, Romania). Fitness as a standard must be
quantified to be able to compare individuals (Safrit). Predicting VO2Max can be
done through both submaximal and maximal tests such as walking (KLINE), cycling
(Astrand) and the 20 metre shuttle test (LIU). The VO2max can be assessed by
means of an incremental test, otherwise known as a graded exercise test (GXT) The
GXT can be administered differently, however it similarly requires exercise
participation in an incremental fashion till volitional exhaustion(RYAN P.
ALEXANDER†and CONSTANCE M. MIER‡). GXT is recognized as the
gold standard in measurement of cardiorespiratory endurance (STEVEN E). VO2max
measurement values are used as a measure in overall fitness and the efficiency of
training on athlete performance. Specifically in previous research, LUCIA analysed
the heart rate and performance of 13 road cyclists throughout the duration of a
complete riding season. Each subject performed a progressive exercise test 3 times
throughout the season. He found an overall improvement in performance (VO2max),
though heart rate remained stable during remained stable at
24 Hours in Amman
The City So you made it to Amman. Really! You re only spending a day here. Let
me get you up to speed then since time is of the essence. Amman is the capital and
heart of Jordan, the modern city is less than 100 years old, however,
archaeological discoveries proved that it was inhabited as early as 10000 BC!
Persians, Macedonians and Romans are only but few of the nations that ruled they
city. Amman is often dubbed The City of 7 Hills because it was originally built on
7 hills, but now it spans over an area of 19 hills. Best time to visit is definitely
between March and May, which is the brief Spring season when it s warm but not
scorching! Must See A few nations left their mark on Amman, so there a few sites
that are worth seeing. But since your stay is somewhat brief, let s limit it to two
historical landmarks. Start off by going to the Roman theater in downtown, a
spacious, majestic structure reminiscent of the times when gladiators battled in the
arena, if you listen intently, you might still hear the cheers of spectators and the
sound of swords clashing in a fierce duel. Roman theater also houses the Jordanian
Museum of Popular Traditions on the one side, and the Amman Folklore Museum on
the other. If you walk uphill for a little while, on one of the 7 hills the city originally
was built on, you ll find the Citadel. A national historical site that endured the test of
time, and evidence that Amman knew civilization centuries and centuries ago,
making it one of the

COMPUTER IN OUR DAILY LIFE
INTRODUCTION
1.As each year draws to a close, the editors of Time magazine review the years
newsmakers and select one as representative of the year just passing. This selected
newsmaker is then featured in a cover story in the year s final issue. A politician, a
chief of state, a scientist perhaps these are the people you d expect to see featured in
the special issue. If so, you might have been as surprised as were millions of others a
few years ago to find that Time s Man of the year wasn t person at all. It was a

Essay About Divorce. Cause And Effect Essay On Divorce Telegraph

  • 1. Essay About Divorce Crafting an essay on the topic of divorce can be an emotionally charged and intellectually demanding task. This subject delves into the complexities of human relationships, societal norms, and the profound impact that marital dissolution can have on individuals and families. Writing about divorce requires a delicate balance between empathy and objectivity, as it involves exploring sensitive issues such as the breakdown of trust, emotional turmoil, and the aftermath of legal proceedings. One of the challenges is navigating through the vast array of perspectives on divorce, each shaped by personal experiences, cultural influences, and societal expectations. The writer must consider not only statistical data and research findings but also the deeply personal narratives of those who have gone through the process. Striking the right tone is crucial, as the essay should neither romanticize nor demonize divorce but rather offer a nuanced understanding of its multifaceted nature. Addressing the psychological and emotional aspects of divorce requires a keen awareness of the profound impact on individuals, especially children caught in the midst of family restructuring. Writing about these emotional dimensions necessitates a certain level of sensitivity and an ability to convey the human stories behind the statistics. Furthermore, delving into the legal and societal aspects of divorce demands a thorough understanding of the varied legal systems and cultural norms worldwide. Analyzing the historical evolution of divorce laws, their societal implications, and potential reforms adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Moreover, tackling the socio-economic repercussions and potential stigmas associated with divorce adds depth to the analysis. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of divorce requires a careful balance of analytical thinking, empathy, and a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted issues involved. It demands a writer's ability to navigate through emotional landscapes, legal intricacies, and societal perspectives while maintaining a coherent and insightful narrative. • 2. The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a... The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998). In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were considered a desired food item and protein source. Regulations were put in place to protect the loggerhead sea turtle such as prohibition of foreign commerce, importation, and exportation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figure 1. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001. Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution, removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction, implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and hatchlings against predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007). The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at counts of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look at the anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009). Using these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater likelihood of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico

Telus Essay Telus: The Cost of Capital Business 3019 Synopsis пЃµ Two managers attending an executive education course attempt to develop a cost of capital estimate for a leading telecommunications company, Telus The two managers are somewhat confused about the costs of various sources of capital, the calculation of the overall cost of capital and the appropriate use of the hurdle rate пЃµ What Does Cost of Capital Mean? пЃµ Cost of capital is what it will cost the firm, on the margin, today, to secure its financial resources for further growth. Note that, in 2001, interest on the company s total debt is approximately 3.8%: $317 million of interest / $8,361 million of debt. However, this calculation is misleading since the 2000 debt is much larger than the 1999 debt of $2,270 (not in the case). You should ask yourself...should you use current yields or historical yields when calculating the cost of debt? Current yield figures should be used because Telus is considering
  • 5. The Culture of Talk Shows Essay The Culture of Talk Shows If social order is not a given, if it is not encoded in our DNA, then to some extent we are always in the process of producing virtual realities, some more functional than others. Habits, routines, and institutions are the patterns that create the world taken for granted. Knowledge of how to behave is contained in cultural scripts that are themselves products of human interaction and communication about the nature of reality. Shame, guilt, embarrassment are controlling feelings that arise from speaking the unspeakable and from violating cultural taboos. Yet these people remain caricatures, plucked out of the context of their real lives, unimportant except for their entertaining problem. (In real life someone might question the benefits of publicly confessing to people who really don t care about you or don t have the expertise to give advice. Exploitation, voyeurism, peeping Toms, freak shows all come to mind.) The central distortion that these shows propound is that they give useful therapy to guests and useful advice to the audience. And that they are not primarily designed to extract the most riveting and most entertaining emotional displays from participants. This leads to such self serving and silly speeches by hosts as: I ask this question not to pry in your business but to educate parents in our audience (Oprah, trying to get graphic details from a female guest who claims to have been sodomized by her father) and Do I understand, Lisa, that intercourse began with your dad at age 12, and oral sex between 5 and 12? Each side of this situation stated they wanted to resolve this matter but nothing was done. Galloway should be commended for sticking to his game plan. He is arguably one of the top five receivers in the NFL if not the better and should hold out if he believes he is not being paid a fair market value. But holding out may have backfired on Galloway. In Galloway s existing contract there is a clause that states that if Galloway were to hold out the entire season the Seahawks would have rights to him for 2 more seasons. This means the only way Galloway can leave after the 1999 season is if the Seahawks were to trade him. Knowing this, and also seeing how well the team is doing without him through October of 1999. Galloway elected to come back to the team and end his 102 day holdout. This enables Galloway to become a free agent at the end of the season and test the market to see

Hero and Leander are compelling because their reactions (even the less than truthful words of Hero, as she attempts to hold off Leander) are innocent and based on universal human emotions. • 11. DBQ Essay On Reconstruction Reconstruction DBQ Essay A truly united America has been created. Let s hope that our Reconstruction bridges this condition perfectly. Such a senatorial speech fell to be false. Instead of fulfilling Lincoln s dream, Reconstruction turned out to be a complete failure as it divided both sides (again) and created an irreversible shift. Officially, Reconstruction is recognized to have an end, not by success, but by disaster. Unlike what is often thought amongst people, the actual death of Reconstruction was caused by both sides of America; in other words, Southern resistance and Northern neglect. At first, Southern resistance triggered the conclusion of Reconstruction through its formation of internal terrorists. This claim is supported by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the most likely target to blame is the side of the South. The North actually assisted in the progression of Reconstruction by legalizing the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments which abolished slavery, ensured that blacks were equal to whites, and prohibited suffrage based on race creating laws to enforce the amendments through military force, establishing black churches, schools, and universities like Howard, Fisk, Morehouse, and Hampton. (Background Essay) Without these endeavors, higher education for blacks would have perished and the numerous contributions of African Americans would have been erased throughout history. With all these evidences to support the North s innocence, the South is more responsible as it actively fought against the North through the KKK, contemptible leaders, and illegal solutions, such as poll taxes to react to the South s greatest obstacle the 15th amendment. As the South protested relentlessly to bolster their need for a modern slave society, the North forfeited and allowed the South to regain its previous condition as they knew Reconstruction was beginning to wilt. If the South transferred their tenacity to join hands with their brothers up north, our current world wouldn t have issues resulting from segregation. A possibility of an accepting country was offered to the South, but the South rejected it. As such, the era
  • 12. Using Rigid Panels Like Plywood Concrete has no opinion about its shape; a gloppy material, it will take any shape give it, as long as it s given time to cure. Traditionally, concrete is cast using rigid panels like plywood. Although reinforce concrete become the standard in the last decades, few of its potentialities have been fully exploited. Apart from the unconquerable inertia of our minds, which do not seem to be able to adopt freely new ideas, the main cause of this delay is a trivial technicality: the need to prepare wooden forms (Nervi, 1956, p. 95). Most industrial material are produced through single axis mills. This produced uniform surface. The obvious exceptions are cast materials such as concrete. But if concrete is cast into molds made of rigid, flat material produced by milling, the result will likely be flat and straight forms. Fabric formwork is a building technique that uses structural membranes as the main material for concrete molds. Unlike traditional formwork, fabric formwork is highly flexible and can deflect under the pressure of concrete. The results are variety of shapes that are not normally associated with concrete. As buildings become more complex, there is an increasing demand for molding creative and organic forms. Concrete, theoretically, is the perfect material to make a variety of shape. Fresh concrete can be shaped in different types of formwork. The visual appearance and effect of fabric formed concrete is strikingly different from that of conventional concrete

These taxes prevented counties from selling the goods they needed to earn the money to repay loans to the U.S. banks. In a three year period over 9,000 banks went bankrupt or had to close their doors to avoid bankruptcy which led to a decline in purchasing powers. When the banks started failing people lost their saving because the banks were uninsured. The banks weren t as willing to offer new loans. At the same time this was occurring, there was the distribution of unequal income. Businesses were showing great profits during the 1920 s, however the working class only got a small portion of this wealth with their low wages. People with low incomes purchased merchandise on credit. People thought that they had more money to spend on materialistic possessions using credit. Advertising increased, enticing people with the buy now, pay later slogan which in turn caused many consumers to accumulate so much debt that were unable to keep up with payments on the items they purchased, and they were repossessed. Once the slowing of manufactured goods occurred, inventory accumulated and there was a backlog of purchasing merchandise which caused even less spending that didn t help the economy. Another problem contributing to the Depression was the epic drought that occurred in 1930. During WWI, thousands of farmers migrated to the Great Plains area because of its rich

The girl in the story has been studying in the boarding school. It is the educational establishment of close type, so the process of growing proceeds differently. For example if we compare the girls from public schools and the girls from boarding schools the latest will be more dissolute. The main reason for this is the closed social environment which fluencies the young girls minds. Wealth can be defined as capital or vice versa as having properties or resources and turning it into money. A country that is wealthy can have both rich and poor people living in it. There is an upper class, middle class and lower class, which individuals are associated to. We all know that individuals in the upper class have more resources, materials, properties and more money than the middle and lower class. The position that Upton Sinclairtakes is that a wealthy nation isn t a prosperous nation as many immigrants worked in horrible conditions and lived in miserable areas in her book The Jungle . I claim that a wealthy nation isn t a prosperous nation because people have to look at the quality of human life and factors such as education, health care, inequality, basic needs, social goods and literacy are key aspects in determining if a wealthy nation is a prosperous nation. Really, I am just unsure of how I feel about it because it was so strange that I do not know how to wrap my mind around it. I did enjoy how whimsical and silly it was, though. I was not sure what to expect from this story, but it certainly was not what I experienced. I believe that a very prominent theme in this story is the struggles in society relating to classes. One of the things that Gogol most often points out is the dress and ranking of the characters in this story. For instance, the barber Ivan Yakovlevitch is described as a very dirty man who does not care about his appearance, probably emphasizing his lower class ranking. Kopek is described as very well dressed and has a somewhat higher ranking of Major. Meanwhile, when he spots his nose masquerading as a very high ranked man, it is dressed exquisitely. The nose draws envy of everyone with its appearance and apparent rank. The ludicrousness of a nose causing envy and admiration and fear in people, even in Kopek who owns it, really emphasizes how ridiculous Gogol perceives the class system to be. In fact, the nose seems to represent a sort of superiority complex to me. Obviously, it is possible that this was not Gogol s intention, but the use of a nose seems metaphorical to stuck up ness. In the description of the nose I think of people who stick their noses up in the air at people because they

  • 35. Correlation Between Satisfaction And Pain Intensity The considerable interest in satisfaction related to pain as an outcome variable waned after investigators studied postoperative and cancer patients and found poor correlations between satisfaction and pain intensity. In these studies, patients commonly reported moderate to severe pain ( 4 on a 0 10 scale), but indicated they were satisfied with their painmanagement (Cohen, 1980; Dawson et al., 2002; Jamison, Taft, O Hara, Ferrante, 1993; Miaskowski, Nichols, Brody, Synold, 1994). These findings are counter intuitive, and authors have speculated about explanations for the inconsistency. Not many authors, however, have considered the validity of the satisfaction item. Most investigators measured satisfaction with pain management, not pain intensity, but the former is a vague concept that could be interpreted many ways. A few investigators measured satisfaction with pain relief or satisfaction with pain level in small samples (Corizzo, Baker, Henkelmann, 2000) and did not observe the inconsistency that investigators observed when measuring satisfaction with pain management. Contributions Of Jane Adddams Jane Addams was considered the first woman to be a public philosopher and won worldwide recognition for her movement as a pioneer social worker in America, a feminist, and as an internationalist. Additionally, Jane Addams was born September 6, 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois; she was the eighth children of nine. Growing up, Addams was not physically healthy throughout her youth, she suffered from spinal difficulty, but was later in time it was remedied by a surgery. In addition, it can be said that Addams lived a privileged life, her father had various important relationships, some even included President Abraham Lincoln. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia, Addams was in the minority among her peers in philosophy or feminism to believe that working class immigrant women not only should be given a voice but also had something important to contribute to the community of ideas (Hamington, 828). Moreover, Jane Addamswas undecided on what life path she will choose. Consequently, Addams attended and graduated from Rockford Female Seminary in Illinois in 1881 and attended medical school. At the age of twenty seven, Addams and her close friend Ellen G. Starr visited a settlement house, Toynbee Hall, in London. This visit helped to finalize Jane s idea of helping the poor area of Chicago. Specifically, her path was settled as indicated, On one trip with friend Ellen Gates Starr, the 27 year old Addams visited the famed Toynbee Hall in London, England, a special facility

Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) Infection Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is the small period of time after a person has been exposed to HIV and before they have seroconverted. Seroconversion is the process in which the body starts to create antibodies to fight the HIV virus (Pietrangelo, 2013). During this period of time, which is usually a few days, the virus replicates rapidly. The rapid replication results in extremely high amounts of HIVin the blood because the body has not had time to respond to the infection. As the viral load increases more CD4 white cells are destroyed. CD4 cells are a responsible in protecting the body from infection. When these cells are destroyed they no longer are able to adequately activate the body s immune system. (AIDS.GOV).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Signs/symptoms of Acute HIV Infection Including H P Not all patients with HIV will have signs or symptoms during the acute infection phase. If a patient is having symptoms they can often times think that they have the flu. Acute HIV infection symptoms can show up 2 4 weeks after exposure and last from a few days to several weeks (Cherney, 2014). If they are exhibiting symptoms they may present as having a fever, swollen lymph nodes, skin rashes, myalgia, diarrhea, oral ulcers or thrush, and fatigue. Lab results may also show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or an elevation in transaminase (DHHS, 2015). Differential diagnoses include the flu or Epstein Barr Virus since these also present with similar symptoms. A thorough health history must be taken with patients before an exam in order to identify risk behavior. Important things to ask about are sexual history, partners and possible exposures, any drug use (especially intravenously), and any current STI s (HRSA, 2014). The peat extraction from the bog is having a dramatic effect on the natural environment. The digitizing of the bog using GIS 10.3 was a simplistic method that visually provides how much peatis being extracted from the Bog. The reasons behind the extraction was pointed out by Cruickshank et al, 1995, suggesting that peat extraction is part of an Irish culture which humans use the peat as fuel and horticulture. The peat extraction evidently has an impact on the carbon content loss, hydrochemistry, peat depth, geology and vegetation as pointed out in the results. The conductivity results for Monivea Bog shows that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the results there is an interaction between hydrology, vegetation and depth. The lower depths had a lack of vegetation, less surface water and high levels of conductivity. This suggests that vegetation is unable to deal with living at low depths on the bog and this is due to four factors. Firstly, the high conductivity suggests that the water is toxic for the sphagnum mosses to survive. The nutrient cycle is highly disturbed and there is no oxygen available for sphagnum mosses to grow. It was interesting to identify that there was no open lake in the bog in 1867, it is not known how this open lake has developed on the west side of the bog. It is almost impossible to observe or analysis the development of open water pools (Belyea Lancaster, 2002). However, for this study, from the analysis of the geological profile and depths it is predicated that the pool was formed from subsidence of drainage and peat extraction. As Zanello et al (2011) points out that subsidence depends on how the water table is managed on the site. In Monivea Bog the water table was lowered to dry up the peat so it can be extracted by humans. Furthermore, Zanello et al (2011) also suggests that subsidence is driven by bio chemical oxidation of the organic fraction in peat. The predicted subsided open water pool in Monivea Bog due support the sphagnum mosses. However, the water table being significantly below has caused reduced growth, desiccation and high mortality rates of

  • 50. Sports Performance Evaluation Ioan Stoian National... Exercise is termed as an activity requiring physical effort to improve health and fitness. Scientists can use fitness as a measure to compare one person to another (Haskel). Fitness tests can be conducted in a field or lab based setting (Point of care athlete testing, a new approach of sport performance evaluation Ioan Stoian National Institute of Sports Medicine, Bucharest, Romania). Fitness as a standard must be quantified to be able to compare individuals (Safrit). Predicting VO2Max can be done through both submaximal and maximal tests such as walking (KLINE), cycling (Astrand) and the 20 metre shuttle test (LIU). The VO2max can be assessed by means of an incremental test, otherwise known as a graded exercise test (GXT) The GXT can be administered differently, however it similarly requires exercise participation in an incremental fashion till volitional exhaustion(RYAN P. ALEXANDER†and CONSTANCE M. MIER‡). GXT is recognized as the gold standard in measurement of cardiorespiratory endurance (STEVEN E). VO2max measurement values are used as a measure in overall fitness and the efficiency of training on athlete performance. Each subject performed a progressive exercise test 3 times throughout the season. He found an overall improvement in performance (VO2max), though heart rate remained stable during remained stable at

Start off by going to the Roman theater in downtown, a spacious, majestic structure reminiscent of the times when gladiators battled in the arena, if you listen intently, you might still hear the cheers of spectators and the sound of swords clashing in a fierce duel. Roman theater also houses the Jordanian Museum of Popular Traditions on the one side, and the Amman Folklore Museum on the other. If you walk uphill for a little while, on one of the 7 hills the city originally was built on, you ll find the Citadel.
