Cottle-Taylor
Cottle Taylor: Expanding the Oral Care Group in India
MEMORANDUM To: Brinda Patel, Director of Oral Care Marketing
From: Kunal Gulati and Gunjan Sharma, Assistant executives
Date: October 31, 2009
Subject: Report on feasibility of 25 30% growth in the toothbrush market
Ms. Patel,
We have attached our projectionreport.
As per our analysis, Mr. Lang s idea of increasing advertising budget by 3% of sales will increase
the unit sales by nearly 30% that will lead to $17.63m of profit from operations whereas, according
to original marketing plan would fetch $18.2m profit from operations .Therefore, original
projections will be more beneficial.
Also, Mr. Lang had predicted his estimates based on the success in Thailand, but the ... Show more

Brinda had a marketing plan which would bring about a 20% increase in sales but her manager has
advised her that the company could higher sales growth by investing more in advertisements.
Brinda Patel s manager Michael Lang had increased unit sales growth by 25% in Thailand by
investing around 3% of sales to advertisement. Langs s suggestion of opting the same strategy as
that in Thailand will not suffice the purpose in India because of the huge demographic difference
between the two countries.
Problem Statement
What is the feasibility of achieving a 25% to 30% growth in toothbrush business of Cottle India in
2010?
Options
Brinda patel basically has two options with her.
One was to go with her own option to stick to the original marketing plan and increase her sales by
20% or
Another option is to go by Lange s target of 20 25% growth in unit sales in the financial year by
increasing the budget of advertising.
Criteria for Evaluation
Financial analysis is one of the main criteria to evaluate the options present in the situation. In the
current scenario revenue generation and increasing the profit are the main things to be taken into
account. Since there are two criteria for evaluating the criteria we start with is the profit increasing
option.
Evaluation of options
Option 1: Brinda Patel should revise her marketing plan to achieve 30% unit sales growth
Lang projected a growth rate of the toothbrush sales by 16% for low end range, by 120%

Action Research in Od
ACTION RESEARCH ORG. MIRRORING IN OD
Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working
with others in teams or as part of a community of practice to improve the way they address issues
and solve problems. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions,
assisted or guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices,
and knowledge of the environments within which they practice. Kurt lewin described action
research as a comparative research on the conditions and effects of various forms of social action
and research leading to social action that uses a spiral of steps, each of which is composed of a

Data are again gathered from the client system so that progress can be determined and necessary
adjustments in learning activities can be made. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in
learning activities via Feedback Loop B (see Figure)
[pic]
.Major adjustments and reevaluations would return the OD project to the first, or planning,
stage for basic changes in the program. The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely
follows Lewin s repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates
other aspects of Lewin s general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning
stage is a period of unfreezing, or problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing,
that is, trying out new forms of behavior in an effort to understand and cope with the system s
problems. (There is inevitable overlap between the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut
and cannot be in a continuous process). The results stage is a period of refreezing, in which new
behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and reinforcing, become a part of the system s
repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is problem centered, client centered, and
action oriented. It involves the client system in a diagnostic, active learning, problem finding, and
problem solving process. Data are not simply returned in the form of a written report but

Analysis Of Bass Concerns About Charlie s Life
As the weeks went by, Bass concerns about Charlie s motives slowly diminished. She continued to
stay close to him and the children and Connor was never mentioned again.
In fact, after those first few disorienting days, Charlie had never mentioned her dream world again
even though she still didn t feel as though she belonged here. Granted, she was no longer able to
imagine not being a mother, showering Sunny and Ethan with all the attention and love she felt that
she had never received, nor could she imagine not being married to Bass, but she could just never
shake the feeling that there was something not quite right.
She requested that a tiny crossbow be made for Ethan and was beyond delighted when it arrived,

It was after that the dreams started, leaving her clinging to Bass in the dark.
After the first few times of him offering to listen and Charlie remaining silent, she finally began to
open up to him in stuttering bursts, describing to him horrible things that would surely drive
anyone mad, until he couldn t bear to listen any longer. That was when he would attempt to kiss
away the pain, letting her take control as she took comfort from his body.
Tonight was no different as she crawled on top of him, kissing him fiercely as she slid her already
swollen pussy slowly down his cock, seating herself with a co mingled groan from them both.
Trailing her fingers down the flat planes of his abs, She began to slowly move, pitching herself
forward, her lips hovering just above his. Has it always been like this? she asked rolling her hips,
making him groan.
Bass threaded his hands through her hair as he licked her lips. Always, he answered, rolling them
over. Pulling a leg up over his hip, Bass thrust up inside her, causing Charlie to cry out as she
arched her back, offering up her breasts to his mouth. Bass swirled his tongue around her pink,
pebbled nipples before tugging gently at them with his teeth. Shifting, he settled more squarely
between her thighs, grabbing hold of her knees pushing them

Principles And Elements Of The Four-Armed Ganesha
The Four Armed Ganesha, an Indian terra cotta relief plaque, created during the Gupta period
between the 4th and 7th century A.D, depicts the potbellied, four armed deity Ganesha, the
remover of obstacles in Hindu mythology. The 49.1 x 67.9 x 20.6 cm representational relief
plaque, conceived during India s classical age of sculpture, was discovered in the state of Uttar
Pradesh, located in the northern part of India. This magnificent piece is a representational form
of artwork. The sculpture s subject, a pan Hindu god, emerged as a deity somewhere as early as
1st 2nd century AD but had definitely come into prominence by the Gupta period. The deity is
considered to be a patron of science and art and is by far one of the most prominent Gods in the
Hindu doctrine. The sculpture is currently owned by the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas
after being acquired from Colnaghi Oriental, London in 1981. In this paper, I intend to interpret the
formal principles and elements of Four Armed Ganeshaand confabulate my experience of
perceiving this artwork.
The relief sculpture, a phenomenal archetype of ceramic art, produced purely through the usage
of a human s most basic machinery, fingers and thumbs, and through the most elemental material
wet earth, has a porous, coarse and rugged texture. Although the artwork does have a degree of
heaviness to it, terra cotta and clay do not have a high density as a result of the material s
porousness. The artwork is in a moderate hue of orange with a slight blend of tan, a pale tone of
the color brown, a color typical to artifacts and relics made of clay and earthen materials. The
sculpture is an example of a high relief, which is found throughout Hindu artworks, although not as
frequently as mid reliefs/ mezzo rilievo. The use of single material throughout the artwork and the
singular color adds unity to the artwork. Although the artwork is not symmetrical it seems that the
artwork would have looked solid, settled and balanced if it had not endured damage over time. The
majorly similar halves with 2 devas/devis hovering, one at the bottom and one at the top, along with
the giant deity right in the middle, seemed to have imparted balance to the artwork.

Example Of Dichotomy
Victor Hanson s article lacks supporting evidence and provides a narrow point of view to a
complex situation. When evaluating information and determining if it is logically compelling, the
premises must be acceptable, relevant, and sufficient. The article does not meet the required
premises because it lacks sufficient support and contains several logical fallacies.
The premise of the article is that the United States will continue to decline and potentially cease to
exist if they continue to reduce defense spending and increase social spending, which results in
more government dependent citizens. The premise is a slippery slope fallacy. A slippery slope
logical fallacy occurs when a predicted outcome is based on a specific chain reaction, but there is
not enough evidence to support the chain reaction will occur or produce the predicted outcome.
The article references four different historical civilizations that failed because their citizens grew
dependent on the government and because their government cut defense spending. The historical
civilizations mentioned lack similarities to the U.S. government s structure, current international
relations, military capability and economic capacity. The increase in government ... Show more

The article over simplifies the correlation and reasons behind budget management and its impacts
on security. Instead of making assumptions, it is imperative to identify the root cause or reason
behind a decision. The article uses Europe as an example and defines the European Union (EU) as
insolvent and defenseless. The EU contains some countries with financial issues and a multitude of
others with a wide range of defense and social budgets. The generalization without specific
supporting facts reduces the effectiveness of the

William Paterson (Patterson) was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1745. When he was almost 2
years of age, his family emigrated to America, disembarking at New Castle, DE. While the father
traveled about the country, apparently selling tinware, the family lived in New London, other
places in Connecticut, and in Trenton, NJ. In 1750 he settled in Princeton, NJ. There, he became a
merchant and manufacturer of tin goods. His prosperity enabled William to attend local private
schools and the College of New Jersey(later Princeton). He took a B.A. in 1763 and an M.A. 3
years later.

theory and moral philosophy. He viewed college as the place to develop and perfect his character
and to gain proficiency in eloquence and oratorial skill.
Following his graduation in 1763, Paterson began the study of law in the office of Richard
Stockton, a prominent local attorney. In 1768 he was admitted to the bar, and opened a law practice
at New Bromley in Hunterdon County and later at Raritan in Somerset County.
Though not an early participant in the politics of the day, Paterson became an outspoken
supporter of American independence following the outbreak of hostilities in Lexington and
Concord. In 1775 he was selected as a delegate from Somerset County to the First Provincial
Congress of New Jersey, where he was named secretary. He later attended the Second Provincial
Congress and the Third Provincial Congress, where as secretary he officially recorded New Jersey

Soon after independence was declared, Paterson was appointed New Jersey s first attorney general

Gender Stereotypes In The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not so much a movie as more of a long running social
phenomenon (Ebert). The interpretation of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was
produced in 1975, opens the curtains to the cross on top of a church after being introduced to the
characters by the huge, bright red lips. Promptly after the introduction the camera moves in a
sensational gesture towards a just married couple that is walking to the front of the church with
their wedding guests, carrying the traditional wedding ceremony of throwing the newly brides
bouquet. The visual that is taken in this scene seems to be vital to the aspect behind the film, as it
is showing how dull a wedding that carries the same tradition can be, especially since it is being
related to the following scene at the castle of Dr. Frank n Furter. With the proximity of the
heterosexual traditions and the events at the mansion, it is obvious this film is meant to draw into
question the common genderstereotypes along with sexuality. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
validates that gender roles and stereotypes are socially constructed and that there should not be any
social stigma attached to personalities that cannot easily be identified as a male or female by using
irony, the use of social practice, and more specifically through Dr. Fran n Furter s character.
Even with an unbiased reading of the production, it is obvious that The Rocky Horror Picture
Show does in fact speak on the social issue of

equity, but it might not be sustainable for the coming years because it is not reoccurring cash
flow and Friendly Cards will need to borrow more capital for further growth. If the sales continue
to grow at the current rate in the future the ratios could increase again. This would not be good for
long term growth due to the fact that it will sell its stock for a discount and if the other two options
are executed the extra capital will not be necessary (See Exhibit 4).

Racial Profiling Theory
Racial profiling is an ever growing issue in the world. Not growing in that it is becoming more
of an issue, but growing in that citizens who are not victims are finally seeing and understanding
racial profiling and its role in the criminal justice system, and also victims themselves are
becoming more outspoken and encouraged to fight back about the injustices they are facing. The
two go hand in hand, as there are more people willing to listen, there are more people willing to
speak out. The first and second section of this paper will dedicate itself to understanding and
considering the social factors and the legal factors that enable racial profiling to exist in Canada.

Is is enabled not only by the government, government officials, police, lawyers and anyone else
who falls into a similar style of categorization, but it is also perpetuated by citizens themselves,
through their own racist ideologies or through their disinterest and lack of initiative to change the
way society and the legal system view minorities. There is also the factor of it being a very
difficult task to address the problem of racial profiling in the criminal justice system because small
scale legal reforms do not seem to be making an impact, and large scale legal reforms are very
difficult to foster. These factors are extremely essential to consider as the only way to determine
the best course of action to avoid a system such as racial profiling, is by acknowledging and
deconstructing the very structures that keep the practice in place in the first place. It is
especially important to consider legal and social factors as these factors would be so ingrained
into our society and the comfort of our everyday lives that many would not bother to give a
second thought on the discussion. The only way to grow and evolve as a society (with the
inclusion of a growing and evolving legal system) is to continue to question what we believe we
know and to challenge the structures prevailing in our society that in any way seem unfair or
unjust. For this reason,

Literary Analysis Of Maya Deren s Meshes Of The Afternoon
Maya Deren s Meshes of the Afternoon, (1943) is a 14 minute black and white 16mm film that
captures simple realities like walking around one s house, cutting bread, etc, and turning that
narrative into a warped and surrealistic reality that is eerie and chilling, but ultimately there is still
familiarity in it s truth and sensibility. In addition to it being cinematically masterful, Deren s
approach in the choices she made were remarkable and iconic in terms of editing because of the
time period s limited technological advances. Not only were the choices relating to the piece s
aesthetics ambitious and experimental, actually being able to act on those artistic impulses or

In hanging it up, she wants to come out of this dream that is slowly beginning to develop into a
dissociative nightmare. With the knife, I enjoy its image alone without any symbolic attachment to
them because I find knives to be aesthetically lovely on behalf of their elegance in how they shine,
but there is also the inherent phallicism and violence that is attached to it s image as well. Through
this symbol, Deren expresses the frustration she faces with herself and identity, in that she isn t
being seen, understood, or respected, in the way she wants to be through the perspective of men
whether that is through her personal wedded life, or through her professional life in a male
dominated field. With each subtle change different from the last, Deren triggers memory and
familiarity and in her repeating the images, Deren is asking her viewers to pay attention and think
deeply about what it is that she is presenting so many times. The use of repetition aside from its
symbolism and iconism, and instead approaching it through an analytical lens in terms of how they

Grieving Styles In Ordinary People
Society and culture have created scripts (i.e., social norms) that dictate the ways in which we
are to grieve. These scripts also prescribe the unique ways in which men and women are
expected to respond to grief. Specifically, men s grief scripts suggest that men will resolve to
grieve in solitude as a demonstration of their self reliance. Men may also have muted emotional
response and expressed emotions are typically in the form of anger or guilt (Martin Doka, 2011).
Comparatively, women s grief scripts suggest that women are more emotive and seek support from
others to help cope with loss (Martin Doka, 2011).
However, the characters in Ordinary People do not conform to the stereotypical gender grief scripts
and instead reflect the different grieving styles captured in Martin and Doka s (2011) grieving
styles continuum. Martin and Doka (2011) conceptualizes grieving styles ranging on a continuum
from intuitive to instrumental. Grieving styles reflect individuals ability to adapt to loss and are
distinguished by their use of cognitive and affective domains to process grief.
Based on Conrad s character in the movie, he could be described as having more of an intuitive
grieving style. This style of grieving utilizes more of the affective domain and uses little of the
cognitive (Martin Doka, 2011). For the intuitive griever, grief is characterized by the experience of
painful feelings. The feelings of guilt and sadness were those that Conrad experienced the most.

The Main Features And Characteristics Of A Slum
A slum is a heavily populated urban informal settlement characterized by substandard housing and
squalor. While slums differ in size and other characteristics, most lack reliable sanitation services,
supply of clean water, reliable electricity, law enforcement and other basic services. Slum
residences vary from shanty houses to professionally built dwellings that because of poor quality
construction or provision of services have deteriorated into slums.
Main features and characteristics of the slums are poor connectivity to the main city, lack of
proper sanitation conditions and lack of electricity and are densely populated and generally have a
very high occupancy rate. Slums are usually characterized by urban breeding grounds for social ...

The Indian Supreme Court has also recognized the right to water and proper sanitation conditions
under the right to life provision of its constitution. Hence according to the above said statements, the
rights of the people living in the slum areas are often violated and are often hampered also.
A UN expert group has created an operational definition of a slum as an area that combines to
various extents the following characteristics: inadequate access of safe water; inadequate access to
sanitation and other infrastructure; poor structural quality of housing; overcrowding; and insecure
residential status. To these one might add the low socioeconomic status of residents of these areas.
The problem of slums have started because of excess migration of people from the rural areas to
the urban areas and when the people who have migrated do not get proper place to settle down and
live, the settlement of the slum areas (mostly in the outer parts of the city) takes place. But the
settlements in these slums are not proper and lack basic facilities of sanitation, electricity,
connection to the roads, proper construction of houses

Seasonism Religion
When it comes to Seasonism, all six dimensions of religion are present. Seasonism is a
polytheistic religion practiced on Winoc, a small fictional island. In Seasonism, there are four
gods which represent each season; there is the god of winter, spring, summer, and fall. For the
people of Winoc to prosper and live fruitful lives, they must perform rituals, offerings, and prayers
that align with the current season. If they do not please the gods, there will be dire consequences.
Within Seasonism there exists a mythological dimension unlike any other. There are numerous
myths and stories present in Seasonism that explain the creation of the world, the existence of
humankind, and the meaning of life. Naturally, the fundamental myth that Seasonism ... Show more

For this reason, the ritual dimension is central to Seasonism. Out of the copious amounts of
rituals found in Seasonism, there are a few that ensure the overall well being of the community.
Not only are fertility dances mandatory in Spring, but they also symbolize vitality in newborns.
Women can rest assured they will have a healthy pregnancy and will not experience any
complications while giving birth. Everyone who resides in Winoc knows that children are the
future of their society. Consequently, rituals surrounding fertility like the fertility dance are
taken seriously. Rain dances involve people screeching, dancing, and reciting Seasonism
doctrine, in the hope of being able to receive enough rainfall to drink water, grow crops, clean
their homes, and do work. While the attendance of rituals demonstrates faith, sacrifices show
true devotion. From the head tribal leader to the laity, everyone is required to sacrifice
something they hold dear. It may be anything from a favorite type of food to a hobby. In
Seasonism, a rite of passage involves a ceremony where members of the community congregate
and declare a young person as an adult. During this ceremony, a sacrifice to the respective season
god is made by the person coming of age. Once an individual has gone through this rite of
passage, it is their mission in life to serve the season gods. Any leniencies that adolescent person
had are gone, and they are treated as any other adult citizen. Finally, a trinity of rituals are to be
performed every Summer. This trinity includes the previously mentioned beach slumber for 3
nights, the consumption of fish for 3 days, and the 3 days of leisure. Clearly, Seasonism contains a

Portrayal Of Wonder Woman
The Rise of Wonder Woman Comic books have been used as a mirror of society to show or
influence the behavior of people. Wonder Woman was a breakthrough from all the masculine
superhero franchise at the time of her conception and was created with the intentions of being
propaganda for the new type of woman during the second wave of feminism. The comic world
which was filled with male heroes, readily welcomed the first comic heroine to make an
appearance in the DC Comic book universe. The new character was immediately successful.

Moral Justification in Greatest Happiness Principle
In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Spock saves the Enterprise from certain destruction by going
in to the damaged warp core camber which was flooded with deadly radiation in order to fix and
save the entire crew of the Enterprise. This ended up leading to the death of Spock and in his
dying words to Admiral Kirk he says Don t grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many
outweigh ...the needs of the few...or the one. This relates almost exactly to the words of John
Stuart Mill, a Utilitarian philosopher, on the idea of the Greatest Happiness Principle. The
greatest happiness principle is kind of simple alteration of the quote in that instead of acting out
the needs of the many we can act so long as the action promotes the greatest happiness for the
greatest number of people affected. Meaning that any action you can take can be morally justified
if it brings about the most amount of happiness to the most amounts of people. According to John
Stuart Mill this is an acceptable foundation for morality but is it really? Truly this isn t that great
of a foundation for morality, one person cannot assume that his or her actions will result in
happiness other people. This is because one people associate different meanings to their individual
happiness. Also this is an unstable foundation for morality because we cannot see every
consequence for our actions as soon as they take place. There sure are immediate results as to how
our actions impact the people around us but

Nor Easter Crisis Case Study
In October 2011 a Nor easter storm hit Connecticut, leaving a majority of its residents without
power for weeks. The residents were alarmed by the Nor easter storm, which reported to cause
the largest number of power outages in the history of the state. Power to the People: Connecticut
Light and Power (CL P) was the major organization responsible to provide power services to the
regions affected by the storm. The October 2011 Nor easter crises were, in fact, a natural disaster

The second most important priority should have been to protect and maintain its reputation, which

Theme Of Betrayal In The Great Gatsby
The worst part of a betrayal is that it usually comes from a friend rather than an enemy. In Song of
Solomon by Toni Morrison, Milkman goes on an adventure to find the roots of his family history.
While on his quest, Milkman learns and experiences betrayal from his long time friend, Guitar, who
misunderstands Milkman s objective. In The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby undergoes
a series of betrayals from Daisy throughout his life. Gatsby s love for Daisy blinds him from her
acts of betrayal, which eventually leads Gatsby to his death. In Song of Solomon, the
relationship between Milkman and Guitar deteriorates due to Guitar s excessive desire for
money and revenge. This is paralleled in The Great Gatsby where Daisy use Gatsby s love and
wealth to seek revenge on Tom. In the Song of Solomon, Guitars betrayal to Milkman is caused
due to his desire to fulfill his Seven Day s Objective. As Milkman goes on his quest to find more
information about his family history, he encounters Guitar several times. Guitar thinks that
Milkman took the gold for himself rather than sharing it. Guitar is in need of the money so he
would be able to purchase explosives for his mission of vengeance. His hunger for money has led
him to go to the extent of killing Milkman. When Milkman goes hunting, Guitar chokes Milkman
with a wire while he is alone in the woods, but manages to survive. His need for money is
reinforced because of what he believes to be Milkman s betrayal towards him.

Essay on Thoreau s Journey to Find the Simple Life
Simple is the way of life that transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau advocated as the most
fulfilling of all. Although sometimes irrational, Thoreau wanted a life that was more closely
connected with nature in comparison with the majority of a rapidly industrializing America. He
favored a more agrarian approach rather than a mechanized form of work and production, for that
he believed was alienating man from his roots. Walden, one of Thoreau s most famous
commentaries on such a lifestyle, puts his ideology in perspective as he trod the forests of Concord,
Massachusettsnear Walden Pond. Living in and around a small cabin, Thoreau realizes that when
one is with nature and nature alone, he sees life as immeasurable and unlimited in its... Show more

He goes on to say, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life...to drive life into a
corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean...publish its meanness to the
world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience and be able to give a true account of it in
my next excursion (74). In this rather long passage, he outlines his true sentiment about life and
living. He puts his feelings in very plain, broad terms, claiming that in order to know what life
has to offer, one must do all that they can to experience it, and then judge for themselves. One
cannot have lived if they have not confronted the true essential facts of life, whether they may be
sweet or bitter. As Thoreau s journey progresses, he comes to realize that solitude, however
lonely, is no more lonely than the first spider in a new house. Using this simile, Thoreau
compares the busy spider to himself in a place that is yet to be inhabited. The spider represents
one that is living with a purpose: whether diversion or food. Thoreau on the other hand, is just as
alone as the spider, yet also scurrying in the forest for life s essentials. Neither is discontent nor
lonely, for they are living for a purpose. Thoreau s conclusion, however convoluted, summarizes his
intentions and beliefs on life as

Terrorism Is Terrorism
In this modern era, being exposed to many sources of news media, we find out how terrorism is
growing and devastating many parts of the world. Thinking of terrorism, people tend to see images
of intensive war, mass killing, ISIS or 9/11 attack. But what is really terrorism? And how does it
happen?
Terrorism is defined as the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians,
as a mean to create terror or fear, in the pursuit of political, religious, or ideological aims. This
definition fits the images we see on the news, or in other words, images that are readily available
in our mind, bombings, fire, terror, enduring people, and aggressive terrorist. As availability
heuristic is not always accurate, this general definition also does not tell us the whole picture of the
reality and how terrorism arises.
We usually err to think that terrorists are born evil and destructive, so it is their internal disposition
that rules the actions. For that reason, we underestimate the influence of the situation (religious
conflict, for example). The fundamental attribution error first explains why and how we
misunderstand terrorism.
Most problems of terrorism can be interpreted using social psychology to reveal how people and
individuals interact, relate, and impact each other. It is shocking to realize how similar terroristic
issues are to ordinary thoughts of everyday life, with the only difference that it is taken to the
extreme. The in group bias explains why

So our weather in Iowa has patterns because we have seasons. Our seasons are Winter, Spring,
Summer and Fall. They have a pattern on when they change Winter starts December 22nd, Spring
starts March 22nd, Summer starts June 22nd and Fall starts September 22nd and then the pattern
starts all over again. It depends on what season you are in to determine how cold/hot it will be
outside and how much rain/snow it will get. The seasons change because when the earth is
closest to the sun that is when we have our fall and winter because even tho we are at our closest
to the sun our earth is tilted farther away from the it and that is why it gets colder. But when it is

An abiotic factor at the Katoski Park is the temperature, weather and climate. The abiotic factor
affects the biotic and flora because since abiotic is weather and nonliving things but biotic is
living things. A biotic factor is living things so is just the opposite of abiotic. Examples of this
would be animals, humans, plants etc. anything that is living. We have animals that hibernate in
the Winter because they can t survive in the temperature that winter provides for them so they
have to hibernate. But like an example polar bears can t live in Iowa even though in Iowa we have
winter and it is really cold but the polar bear can t live here because it is not cold enough here and
it would die.
Ecosystem The ecosystem that the Katoski Park has is a temperate grassland, temperate woodland,
and a temperate forest. Temperate grassland means grassland that is covered in thick grass.
Here is and example right from the Katoski Park of what a temperate grassland would look like at
the park.
Temperate woodland means less annual rainfall in the summer and is hot in humid but has more
rainfall in the fall.
This is another example of what a temperate woodland would look like in Katoski Park. This
picture was taken right out of Katoski Park.
Temperate forest means broad leaved deciduous trees. The system for this is always changing

She also dresses in man s clothes, this also seems strange because it makes you wonder what she

returned home in the evening. That night she slept soundly. This too creates tension because
you wonder how she can sleep when she has just killed someone and you therefore feel
uncomfortable. The colours used by Guy de Maupassant in A Vendetta create tension too
because colours such as black and brown are used. These colours are dark and traditionally
associated with death and evil. This creates tension because it makes the reader feel uneasy and
wonder what plan the woman will concoct and if it will be evil. During A Vendetta information is
revealed gradually. For instance you don t fully understand the woman s plan until the end. This
crates tension because it keeps the reader in suspense and wondering what will happen. They are
also not entirely sure what she is doing throughout the story. In A Vendetta Guy de Maupassant
uses words associated with loneliness such as alone and widow . This creates tension because it
makes the woman seem like a victim and vulnerable, therefore creating an uncomfortable and

The rise of Kim Campbell as Canada s first female Prime Minister is considered by many to be
that of a phenomenon. Webster s Dictionary describes a phenomenon as being something of
significant or rare, either fact or event. This can be shown by the rise of Kim Campbell from a
local Vancouver School Board Trustee, to becoming Prime Minister of Canada. Of course, this
success was dependent on her ability and ambition to succeed in what is still considered in
contemporary terms as being a male dominated area of profession. Politics, especially in Canada

The Journey Of Mansa Musa Dbq
One journey, thousands of pounds of gold, thousands of slaves and servants, a hundred camels,
and one man spread the Islamic religion for a hajj of four thousand miles. The journey of Mansa
Musa was a famous trip that stretched from the ancient city of Mali to Mecca, the birthplace of
Islam. Mansa Musa, a rich, prosperous man who took advantage of situations to benefit himself, not
only wanted to spread Islamthroughout his hajj, but to show off his wealth, to give compulsorily,
and accumulate trade partners. The journey of Mansa Musa was a long and famous journey that
took place in the northern part of Africa. However, the journey was not just a religious venture, but
one to show off Mansa Musa s wealth, to establish trade partners, and to... Show more content on

Mansa Musa brought over ten thousand personal slaves as well as entertainers, flag bearers,
guards, and other extravagant people (Document A). One does not need even over a thousand
personal slaves for an estimated 2,000 miles long journey. Nor does one need flag bearers or
musicians. Mansa Musa brought so many slaves and servants to show common folk how rich he
was and how much power he held. The poorer people who saw him on his hajj would then spread
the word of Mansa Musa s wealth and power. Mansa Musa went on the journey to establish trade
partners, such as with a village called Taghaza. Taghaza was a village far north of the original
trade route. Mansa Musa went out of his way to a small village that consisted of slaves and
mines. The salt mines were precisely the reason why Mansa Musa stopped at Taghaza. Salt was
needed for taste, nutrition, dehydration, and food preservation. It was literally worth its weight in
gold (Document B). Because salt was such a valuable import, Mansa Musa was willing to travel
out of his way to become trade partners with a small village. Mansa Musa went on his hajj to give
alms to the poorer people of the

Rip Van Winkle, By Washington Irving
Rip Van Winkle
The short story, Rip Van Winkle has journeyed through many years of popularity in American
literature. This narrative is eloquently written by Washington Irving, a prolific nineteenth century
American writer. The Author sets the story in a village near the Hudson River, along the banks of
the Catskill Mountains where Great Britain once held reigns. Irving presents the reader with a story
that effectively delivers an abundance of connotations representing the era of its origin. Through
the use of characterization, imagery and symbolism, the reader can infer that Washington Irvingis
conveying a complex theme of historical transformation in society.
Rip Van Winkleis characterized as an ordinary mortal man who is married to Dame Van Winkle.
She is infuriated by, his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he [is] bringing upon his family
(Irving 32). However Rip s actions towards his family and farm are directly opposite to those of
his neighbors; as stated by Irving, he [is] a great favorite among all the good wives of the village
(31). Although he is favored by all the villagers who defend him, his peace is not found there, at
home. Irving depicts Rip as a man who yearns for tranquility, simplicity and content. On the
contrary, Dame is portrayed as a woman who is antagonizing and infuriated. Thus, the two
characters can be integrated into the transformation America was going through in the late 1700 s.
One can say that Rip s character, on one hand,

Lawn Water Research Paper
One reason why lawns sometimes aren t as lush and green as homeowners want is because they
may not be getting enough water. Water is important for grass. Especially grass that has just
started growing. You have to water grass seed, and grass as it begins sprouting. Homeowners
may want the look of green grass, yet, they might not have the time, desire, or energy to go out
and water it. The good news is, you don t have to give up on your dreams of a beautiful lawn. Call
us and ask about the irrigation systems that we, at WS Home Maintenance in Gilbert, AZ, can

many benefits that come from providing water in this way. Watering with the hose can

Benefits of Social Networking
Most think social media is a bad thing; however, the facts show differently. (SV; however, SV.)
Studies have shown time and time again that while it has some downfalls, it is mostly
beneficial. Social networking is beneficial to teens, businesses, and colleges but in very different
ways. Social networking sites spread information faster than any other source. According to
ProCon, Over 50% of people learn about breaking news on social media. For example, Twitter
and Youtube users reported the July 20, 2012 Aurora, CO theater shooting before news crews
could arrive on the scene (ProCon). This is important because is shows how fast information on
social networks can spread compared to news reports on television. Social media helps promote
businesses and colleges and musicians. (4a: A and B and C.) A large majority of businesses use
Facebook; it has over a billion people users; it has a free platform. (1c: SV; SV; SV.) Businesses
use the ad platform to not only promote their merchandise but also to keep customers informed on
sales. Another group that thrives using Facebook is colleges. 87% of colleges and universities use
Facebook to recruit students... (ProCon). This helps them show the benefits of choosing that
particular learning center. Another site they use often is Youtube. Youtube allows them to show
some of their campus activities with people from all around the world and gives them a sense of
the college experience. Since Youtube is an international site, upcoming

The Pros And Cons Of Stop And Frrisk Case
On October 31, 1963, a veteran detective of 39 years in downtown Cleveland noticed two men (one
being the petitioner Terry) walking back in forth in front of the same store numerous times each.
When they returned they would talk between each other for a few moments. Then, the men met
with a third man and stood outside suspiciously chatting before the third man left (Terry v. Ohio).
The officer suspected that the men were casing the stores for a stick up or robbery and began to
follow the two men (Oyez). Again, the two men met with the third man around the block in front of
another store and again conversed. That is when the detective approached the three men,
announcing himself as a policeofficer and asking the names of the men (Terry v. Ohio). The men
replied with a low mumble, upon which the officer grabbed Terry, spun him around and patted
him down (ACLU Ohio). Upon patting down his overcoat, he found a pistol on Terry, and then
another pistol on the other man that was originally with Terry, before patting down and arresting
the three men on concealed weapon charges. This type of stop and frisk technique is now known
as the Terry frisk because of this (Argiriou). This case revolves around whether the stop and frisk
by the officer violated the Fourth Amendment rights of Terry, which provides protection from
illegal search and seizures (Oyez). Do the police have the ability to stop and pat down anyone that
they deem suspicious, or do people have more rights to

A Report Into Consumer Behavioural Theory and Its...
A Report into Consumer Behavioural Theory and its Implications for Benecol s Marketing Strategy
Executive Summary * Understanding consumer behaviour allows us to engage more effectively
with our target market and increase sales * It is vital we understand the needs of our target market
and their motivation for purchasing Benecol or alternative products. * Giving Value to a product
after we understand our consumers needs and motivation for purchase can increase positive
interaction with our market. * When marketing a product, it is advised that the advertisement
attaches itself best to the needs and value of consumers with relevant and engaging information. *
Creating a psychological struggle for customers as well as curing ... Show more content on

However, the value the product gives to the consumer from a marketing perspective will be
discussed in greater details through other behavioural theories as the above chart is too rudimentary
to give explicit argument to Benecol s potential without more exploration.
Information Processing
Something highly intrinsic to the product value of Benecol is the emphasis on being the only range
of foods to contain Plant Stanol Ester, a unique cholesterol lowering ingredient. (Rasio Plc., 2011).
Getting this information to the public through advertising happens through the brand website, but
on television the advertising is focused on basic prompts that will motivate the audience into
believing in the benefits of using the product. One example is the latest UK advert which places
stress on the convenience of the product with a line in fairly small print about the plant stanol ester
underneath the visual of how easy it can be to help lower cholesterol. The information of stanols is
considered secondary in marketing the convenience product and therefore is only likely absorbed
by those already interested in the product or the advertising.
Dissonance
This theory is based on a consumer s cognitive struggle where two beliefs that are reasoned to be
true are not consistent. This process of a cognitive clash brings about a motivation to come to a
positive conclusion where a psychological compromise can occur to bring

Research Proposal:
1 Provisional title: The impact of Financial Derivatives market on the UK economy : Before,
during and after the 2008 Financial crisis.
2 Rationale
The operations of the derivative market has become a rising concern today in the world and in
the UK in particular as this market could destabilize the efficiency of the financial market and the
economy at large if not managed properly by its users or if a major fault occurs in the derivative
market, as it plays a vital role as a risk management instrument in the economy. Financial derivatives
had been introduced in the financial markets as an instrument to help manage risk cause by

He based his research on what was he called the real and behavioural triggers of the 2008
financial crisis. He then went on to say that the real triggers of the crisis had to do with the
systematic environment of high leverage in the financial markets, corporate and household sectors
and the international nature of finance and banks balance sheets. He classified the
underestimation of risk by almost all agents in the economy as a behavioural trigger to the crisis.
He specified on the underestimation of risk in the newly issued assets and also in the corporate
sector leverage that began in the 21st century. According to him, new and complex derivatives
instruments were not mostly regulated before the crisis of 2008, which he suggested could have
been the trigger to the crisis. He concluded that some of the triggers like the behavioural trigger
could only be incorporated into the new bank regulations as they would not change.
Another study carried out by Shiu Yung Ming et. al. (2005), examined the determinants and the
impact of derivative usage on bank risk. In their study, they said derivatives had proved to be an
efficient tool in the management of risk as it was an easy instrument for which residual risk from
commercial operations was hedged. They agreed with most researchers by saying that derivative
usage was a primary instrument used by both financial and non financial firms for the management
of their financial risks. Thus they came to a realisation that the use of

Selfish Theme Analysis in Bartleby by Herman Melville Essay
Is the narrator of Bartleby a selfish or an unselfish man? Defend your answer with evidence from
the story. The narrator of Bartleby is not a selfish man. Instead, he was the type of man who
tried to do everything for someone who was in need. He tried his best to be there for one of his
workers when he knew he was not well. Bartleby was a man who was a great worker. He was a
man who knew what he was doing and what needed to be done from him. He was extremely
caught up with his work, as he had nothing else to do and no one to be with. The story changed
when Bartleby s attitude about everything changed. The first thing he did was he prefer not to do
what his boss asked him to do. He gave no explanation why but made it clear that he won t... Show

time in my life a feeling of overpowering stinging melancholy seized me. Before, I had never
experienced aught but a not unpleasing sadness. (Herman Melville, page 320). the narrator is
feeling sad for Bartleby, he feels sad that the man who works for him is lonely and has no one to
be with. However, as the story keeps going Bartleby refused to do anything. When asked to do
something his simple words are, I prefer not to. the narrator did not like this and he got mad that
he decided to move his business somewhere else. He didn t want to be in charge of Bartleby
when the man would not do any work. He was proud of himself for leaving him behind without
getting angry but being able to control his anger. When again I entered my office, lo, a note
from the landlord lay upon my desk. I opened it with trembling hands. It informed me that the
writer had sent to the police, and had Bartleby remove to the Tombs as a vagrant. (Herman
Melville, page 329). everyone knew that the narrator knew more about Bartleby then they did.
They wanted the narrator to be able and do something about Bartleby. As Bartleby was in the
Tomb the narrator took time out to go and visit him. The first time he visited him Bartleby ignored
him. The narrator out of his good character went to the person who cooks for them and gave him

Things Fall Apart Ikemefuna Quotes
A powerful quote was once said by Heidi Wills. We can choose to be affected by the world or we
can choose to affect the world. In the novel Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo has only experienced
the land of Umuofia, but he decides to take action to affect the world , even though he s only in
a microscopic part of it. One example of him doing this was Ikemefuna, a boy that he got from
another tribe, looked up to Okonkwo like a father figure. However, when the tribe agreed to kill
Ikemefuna, and the boy was crying out for his father to help him, Okonkwo helped join in the
killing, making him affect the killing instead of just watching the killing. Also, when he decides to
affect the world, violence is used, a major change occurs in the book for the... Show more content

out he was outraged and strangled his son. It was for so long that one of Okonkwo s wives was
forced to stop him. After this he never wanted see his father again. [Nwoye] walked away [after
being strangled] and never returned, This event affected Nwoye because he wasn t going to be
welcome at home ever again because of what he believed in. Also his father would pretty much
disown him as a son, so now he is fatherless. This also affected Okonkwo. Okonkwo in his life is
having a hard time balancing love and anger. His anger right now is taking control of him by not
thinking of Nwoye as a son but only a trader. On one side Okonkwo is thinking that it is his
actual son and he will always love him. However, Okonkwo is thinking that he is completely
evil and that he should never be forgiving. [Okonkwo] cried in his heart should he Okonkwo be
cursed with such a son, This event affected Okonkwo because he will always have to deal with
him disowning him. Also Okonkwo will never be thought of as the same throughout his tribe. This
event affected the whole Ibo tribe. The Ibo tribe is now kind of in shock because one of the
supposed leaders son is going against what they are going with. It starts making

Reflection Notes On The Book Of Amos
Reflection #3
After reading chapters 5 and 6 from the text, please read the following passages and thoughtfully
reflect on the questions. Upload your paper before the beginning of class on Monday, October 2.
1. Read Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2. After having read this story, which most modern
interpreters consider a single literary unit, reflect on and discuss the main characters: David,
Bathsheba, Nathan, Joab, and Absalom. What adjectives come to mind in describing them? Are
there any sympathetic characters? What, if any, timeless qualities do you find in the story?
Sympathetic: joab, 2. Read the Book of Amos. A. In the Book of Amos, as in a number of the
prophetic works in the Hebrew Bible, God seems to show special regard for the poor and ire
against those who oppress them. Comment on passages in Amos that relate this. B. Imagine a
contemporary Amos appearing suddenly in the US. What would he say about the behaviors and
patterns of today? How might people (e.g. leaders, media) respond to his message?

In Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2,
David is King of Israel and appears to be chosen by God to rule. David has many good qualities
of a strong leader like wisdom and generosity. But he does not always show great qualities. He is
not a completely selfless man, and sins greatly when it came to Bathsheba. David various sinful
actions cause a great consequence to the future of his

The Goal Of The Indian Boarding Schools
The Indian boarding schools had many goals; however, the primary goal was to completely
obliterate the culture of indigenous people. This process was done through small goals. The
Indians didn t have many options. The only options that they were given were either to be killed or
to assimilate into white civilization through Indian boarding schools. Richard Pratt, a former
military man is a prime example of implementing Indian boarding schools. Indian children were
taking from their home reservations to attend off reservation boarding schools. The goals of the
boarding schoolwere to kill the Indian, save the man. Indians attending boarding schools were going
through an assimilationprocess. The long term goalwas to leave with a white man s image or with
white ways. This was achieved through Indians being forced to cut their hair, wearing military
uniforms, learning English, new religion (ex: Christianity). Through this process, many children
forgot what their birth given name was. It was not uncommon for children to return back to their
reservation with no recollection of who they are Your name s not Billy. Your name s TAH rruhm,
she told him (Bear, Charla). The white Anglo Saxons goal was to erase anything associated with
Indian culture because in their minds they viewed Indians as savages. The white people in charge
of running these boarding schools went to extreme lengths to achieve erasure. These short term
goals were very traumatizing for the children

The Importance Of Age Discrimination
Nobody will stay young forever. We all getting older whereupon our energy level diminishes.
What remains is our wisdom and experience that we can forward to the next generation. Some
employers value dynamic and flexibility and others value wisdom and experience. Working for
an employer for over 30 years while providing excellent job performance and loyalty in any
aspect, it is not right to get laid off all the sudden, only because a younger employee is replacing
you. That is a terrible and awful notion. People feel exploited and now useless just like a product
that you don t need anymore. Where is the appreciation and thankfulness for all the work
delivered in the last 30 years? All forgotten? I strongly believe it is never appropriate to
discriminate based on age! We are all humans and we should all practice humanity. Everybody
deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. It is just unfair, injustice and unreasonable to
drop an employee like a hot potato after 30 years of loyalty and good job performance. Getting
older and weaker is a natural inevitable process that is nobody fault. It affects all of us and we
should act accordingly, therefore. Treating somebody unfair because of his age can backlash to
ourselves in the future. Age matters all of us.
Give examples of two situations in which you believe age discrimination is acceptable and provide
an explanation of your reasoning.
Example 1 Under the bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) someone can be

Chicopee Public Schools Hr Assessment Essay
Chicopee Public Schools HR Assessment
Background
I have been working for Chicopee Public Schools for 2 years. I truly believe this is the best job I
ve ever had. The flexibility of my job is what I love the most. The only interaction I ve had with
Human Resources was when I got hired and when I have questions about benefits. We will dig
deeper into my human resources department. We will explore issues involving retention,
organizational growth, employee morale, and workplace demographics. I will narrow these four
areas down to one and discuss ways to fix the issues.
Target Crowd
I wanted to get an unbiased view of Chicopee Public School System s Human Resources
department through the eyes of different workers. I targeted workers from different departments.
CPS has a unique organization structure. CPS has a central office, this is where I work on a day to
day basis. The central office could be considered the main hub for CPS. The public schools in
Chicopee could be considered the sub organizations. This is what made it difficult to find a target
audience in my organization. For this reason, I only focused on employees in the central office. My
final decision was target two individuals from my human resources department, the Assistant for
English Language Learners and Teacher Support, and the Assistant for Curriculum. I felt these
individuals would give me a 360 degree view on our human resources department.
Surveys
I figured the best way to reach my targeted individuals was

As per our analysis, Mr. Lang s idea of increasing advertising budget by 3% of sales will increase the unit sales by nearly 30% that will lead to $17.63m of profit from operations whereas, according to original marketing plan would fetch $18.2m profit from operations .Therefore, original projections will be more beneficial. Also, Mr. Lang had predicted his estimates based on the success in Thailand, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brinda had a marketing plan which would bring about a 20% increase in sales but her manager has advised her that the company could higher sales growth by investing more in advertisements. Brinda Patel s manager Michael Lang had increased unit sales growth by 25% in Thailand by investing around 3% of sales to advertisement. Langs s suggestion of opting the same strategy as that in Thailand will not suffice the purpose in India because of the huge demographic difference between the two countries. Problem Statement What is the feasibility of achieving a 25% to 30% growth in toothbrush business of Cottle India in 2010? Options Brinda patel basically has two options with her. One was to go with her own option to stick to the original marketing plan and increase her sales by 20% or Another option is to go by Lange s target of 20 25% growth in unit sales in the financial year by increasing the budget of advertising. Criteria for Evaluation Financial analysis is one of the main criteria to evaluate the options present in the situation. In the current scenario revenue generation and increasing the profit are the main things to be taken into account. Since there are two criteria for evaluating the criteria we start with is the profit increasing option. Evaluation of options Option 1: Brinda Patel should revise her marketing plan to achieve 30% unit sales growth Lang projected a growth rate of the toothbrush sales by 16% for low end range, by 120%

  • 4. Action Research in Od ACTION RESEARCH ORG. MIRRORING IN OD Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a community of practice to improve the way they address issues and solve problems. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions, assisted or guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices, and knowledge of the environments within which they practice. Kurt lewin described action research as a comparative research on the conditions and effects of various forms of social action and research leading to social action that uses a spiral of steps, each of which is composed of a circle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Data are again gathered from the client system so that progress can be determined and necessary adjustments in learning activities can be made. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in learning activities via Feedback Loop B (see Figure) [pic] .Major adjustments and reevaluations would return the OD project to the first, or planning, stage for basic changes in the program. The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely follows Lewin s repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates other aspects of Lewin s general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning stage is a period of unfreezing, or problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing, that is, trying out new forms of behavior in an effort to understand and cope with the system s problems. (There is inevitable overlap between the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut and cannot be in a continuous process). The results stage is a period of refreezing, in which new behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and reinforcing, become a part of the system s repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is problem centered, client centered, and action oriented. It involves the client system in a diagnostic, active learning, problem finding, and problem solving process. Data are not simply returned in the form of a written report but ... • 5. Analysis Of Bass Concerns About Charlie s Life As the weeks went by, Bass concerns about Charlie s motives slowly diminished. She continued to stay close to him and the children and Connor was never mentioned again. In fact, after those first few disorienting days, Charlie had never mentioned her dream world again even though she still didn t feel as though she belonged here. Granted, she was no longer able to imagine not being a mother, showering Sunny and Ethan with all the attention and love she felt that she had never received, nor could she imagine not being married to Bass, but she could just never shake the feeling that there was something not quite right. She requested that a tiny crossbow be made for Ethan and was beyond delighted when it arrived, leaving Sunny in her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was after that the dreams started, leaving her clinging to Bass in the dark. After the first few times of him offering to listen and Charlie remaining silent, she finally began to open up to him in stuttering bursts, describing to him horrible things that would surely drive anyone mad, until he couldn t bear to listen any longer. That was when he would attempt to kiss away the pain, letting her take control as she took comfort from his body. Tonight was no different as she crawled on top of him, kissing him fiercely as she slid her already swollen pussy slowly down his cock, seating herself with a co mingled groan from them both. Trailing her fingers down the flat planes of his abs, She began to slowly move, pitching herself forward, her lips hovering just above his. Has it always been like this? she asked rolling her hips, making him groan. Bass threaded his hands through her hair as he licked her lips. Always, he answered, rolling them over. Pulling a leg up over his hip, Bass thrust up inside her, causing Charlie to cry out as she arched her back, offering up her breasts to his mouth. Bass swirled his tongue around her pink, pebbled nipples before tugging gently at them with his teeth. • 6. Principles And Elements Of The Four-Armed Ganesha The Four Armed Ganesha, an Indian terra cotta relief plaque, created during the Gupta period between the 4th and 7th century A.D, depicts the potbellied, four armed deity Ganesha, the remover of obstacles in Hindu mythology. The 49.1 x 67.9 x 20.6 cm representational relief plaque, conceived during India s classical age of sculpture, was discovered in the state of Uttar Pradesh, located in the northern part of India. This magnificent piece is a representational form of artwork. The sculpture s subject, a pan Hindu god, emerged as a deity somewhere as early as 1st 2nd century AD but had definitely come into prominence by the Gupta period. The deity is considered to be a patron of science and art and is by far one of the most prominent Gods in the Hindu doctrine. The sculpture is currently owned by the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas after being acquired from Colnaghi Oriental, London in 1981. In this paper, I intend to interpret the formal principles and elements of Four Armed Ganeshaand confabulate my experience of perceiving this artwork. The relief sculpture, a phenomenal archetype of ceramic art, produced purely through the usage of a human s most basic machinery, fingers and thumbs, and through the most elemental material wet earth, has a porous, coarse and rugged texture. Although the artwork does have a degree of heaviness to it, terra cotta and clay do not have a high density as a result of the material s porousness. The artwork is in a moderate hue of orange with a slight blend of tan, a pale tone of the color brown, a color typical to artifacts and relics made of clay and earthen materials. The sculpture is an example of a high relief, which is found throughout Hindu artworks, although not as frequently as mid reliefs/ mezzo rilievo. The use of single material throughout the artwork and the singular color adds unity to the artwork. Although the artwork is not symmetrical it seems that the artwork would have looked solid, settled and balanced if it had not endured damage over time. The majorly similar halves with 2 devas/devis hovering, one at the bottom and one at the top, along with the giant deity right in the middle, seemed to have imparted balance to the artwork. • 7. Example Of Dichotomy Victor Hanson s article lacks supporting evidence and provides a narrow point of view to a complex situation. When evaluating information and determining if it is logically compelling, the premises must be acceptable, relevant, and sufficient. The article does not meet the required premises because it lacks sufficient support and contains several logical fallacies. The premise of the article is that the United States will continue to decline and potentially cease to exist if they continue to reduce defense spending and increase social spending, which results in more government dependent citizens. The premise is a slippery slope fallacy. A slippery slope logical fallacy occurs when a predicted outcome is based on a specific chain reaction, but there is not enough evidence to support the chain reaction will occur or produce the predicted outcome. The article references four different historical civilizations that failed because their citizens grew dependent on the government and because their government cut defense spending. The historical civilizations mentioned lack similarities to the U.S. government s structure, current international relations, military capability and economic capacity. The increase in government ... Following his graduation in 1763, Paterson began the study of law in the office of Richard Stockton, a prominent local attorney. In 1768 he was admitted to the bar, and opened a law practice at New Bromley in Hunterdon County and later at Raritan in Somerset County. Though not an early participant in the politics of the day, Paterson became an outspoken supporter of American independence following the outbreak of hostilities in Lexington and Concord. In 1775 he was selected as a delegate from Somerset County to the First Provincial Congress of New Jersey, where he was named secretary. He later attended the Second Provincial Congress and the Third Provincial Congress, where as secretary he officially recorded New Jersey s first constitution in 1776. • 11. Gender Stereotypes In The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not so much a movie as more of a long running social phenomenon (Ebert). The interpretation of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was produced in 1975, opens the curtains to the cross on top of a church after being introduced to the characters by the huge, bright red lips. Promptly after the introduction the camera moves in a sensational gesture towards a just married couple that is walking to the front of the church with their wedding guests, carrying the traditional wedding ceremony of throwing the newly brides bouquet. The visual that is taken in this scene seems to be vital to the aspect behind the film, as it is showing how dull a wedding that carries the same tradition can be, especially since it is being related to the following scene at the castle of Dr. Frank n Furter. With the proximity of the heterosexual traditions and the events at the mansion, it is obvious this film is meant to draw into question the common genderstereotypes along with sexuality. The Rocky Horror Picture Show validates that gender roles and stereotypes are socially constructed and that there should not be any social stigma attached to personalities that cannot easily be identified as a male or female by using irony, the use of social practice, and more specifically through Dr. Fran n Furter s character. Even with an unbiased reading of the production, it is obvious that The Rocky Horror Picture Show does in fact speak on the social issue of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not growing in that it is becoming more of an issue, but growing in that citizens who are not victims are finally seeing and understanding racial profiling and its role in the criminal justice system, and also victims themselves are becoming more outspoken and encouraged to fight back about the injustices they are facing. The two go hand in hand, as there are more people willing to listen, there are more people willing to speak out. There is also the factor of it being a very difficult task to address the problem of racial profiling in the criminal justice system because small scale legal reforms do not seem to be making an impact, and large scale legal reforms are very difficult to foster. These factors are extremely essential to consider as the only way to determine the best course of action to avoid a system such as racial profiling, is by acknowledging and deconstructing the very structures that keep the practice in place in the first place. It is especially important to consider legal and social factors as these factors would be so ingrained into our society and the comfort of our everyday lives that many would not bother to give a second thought on the discussion. The only way to grow and evolve as a society (with the inclusion of a growing and evolving legal system) is to continue to question what we believe we know and to challenge the structures prevailing in our society that in any way seem unfair or unjust. • 14. Literary Analysis Of Maya Deren s Meshes Of The Afternoon Maya Deren s Meshes of the Afternoon, (1943) is a 14 minute black and white 16mm film that captures simple realities like walking around one s house, cutting bread, etc, and turning that narrative into a warped and surrealistic reality that is eerie and chilling, but ultimately there is still familiarity in it s truth and sensibility. In addition to it being cinematically masterful, Deren s approach in the choices she made were remarkable and iconic in terms of editing because of the time period s limited technological advances. • 15. Grieving Styles In Ordinary People Society and culture have created scripts (i.e., social norms) that dictate the ways in which we are to grieve. These scripts also prescribe the unique ways in which men and women are expected to respond to grief. Specifically, men s grief scripts suggest that men will resolve to grieve in solitude as a demonstration of their self reliance. Men may also have muted emotional response and expressed emotions are typically in the form of anger or guilt (Martin Doka, 2011). Comparatively, women s grief scripts suggest that women are more emotive and seek support from others to help cope with loss (Martin Doka, 2011). However, the characters in Ordinary People do not conform to the stereotypical gender grief scripts and instead reflect the different grieving styles captured in Martin and Doka s (2011) grieving styles continuum. Martin and Doka (2011) conceptualizes grieving styles ranging on a continuum from intuitive to instrumental. Grieving styles reflect individuals ability to adapt to loss and are distinguished by their use of cognitive and affective domains to process grief. Based on Conrad s character in the movie, he could be described as having more of an intuitive grieving style. This style of grieving utilizes more of the affective domain and uses little of the cognitive (Martin Doka, 2011). For the intuitive griever, grief is characterized by the experience of painful feelings. The feelings of guilt and sadness were those that Conrad experienced the most. After ... This relates almost exactly to the words of John Stuart Mill, a Utilitarian philosopher, on the idea of the Greatest Happiness Principle. The greatest happiness principle is kind of simple alteration of the quote in that instead of acting out the needs of the many we can act so long as the action promotes the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people affected. Meaning that any action you can take can be morally justified if it brings about the most amount of happiness to the most amounts of people. According to John Stuart Mill this is an acceptable foundation for morality but is it really? Truly this isn t that great of a foundation for morality, one person cannot assume that his or her actions will result in happiness other people. Although sometimes irrational, Thoreau wanted a life that was more closely connected with nature in comparison with the majority of a rapidly industrializing America. In this rather long passage, he outlines his true sentiment about life and living. He puts his feelings in very plain, broad terms, claiming that in order to know what life has to offer, one must do all that they can to experience it, and then judge for themselves. One cannot have lived if they have not confronted the true essential facts of life, whether they may be sweet or bitter. As Thoreau s journey progresses, he comes to realize that solitude, however lonely, is no more lonely than the first spider in a new house. Thinking of terrorism, people tend to see images of intensive war, mass killing, ISIS or 9/11 attack. But what is really terrorism? And how does it happen? Terrorism is defined as the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, as a mean to create terror or fear, in the pursuit of political, religious, or ideological aims. This definition fits the images we see on the news, or in other words, images that are readily available in our mind, bombings, fire, terror, enduring people, and aggressive terrorist. As availability heuristic is not always accurate, this general definition also does not tell us the whole picture of the reality and how terrorism arises. We usually err to think that terrorists are born evil and destructive, so it is their internal disposition that rules the actions. For that reason, we underestimate the influence of the situation (religious conflict, for example). The fundamental attribution error first explains why and how we misunderstand terrorism. Most problems of terrorism can be interpreted using social psychology to reveal how people and individuals interact, relate, and impact each other. It depends on what season you are in to determine how cold/hot it will be outside and how much rain/snow it will get. The seasons change because when the earth is closest to the sun that is when we have our fall and winter because even tho we are at our closest to the sun our earth is tilted farther away from the it and that is why it gets colder. But when it is summer and spring we are further away from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An abiotic factor at the Katoski Park is the temperature, weather and climate. The abiotic factor affects the biotic and flora because since abiotic is weather and nonliving things but biotic is living things. A biotic factor is living things so is just the opposite of abiotic. Examples of this would be animals, humans, plants etc. anything that is living. We have animals that hibernate in the Winter because they can t survive in the temperature that winter provides for them so they have to hibernate. But like an example polar bears can t live in Iowa even though in Iowa we have winter and it is really cold but the polar bear can t live here because it is not cold enough here and it would die. Ecosystem The ecosystem that the Katoski Park has is a temperate grassland, temperate woodland, and a temperate forest. Temperate grassland means grassland that is covered in thick grass. Here is and example right from the Katoski Park of what a temperate grassland would look like at the park. Temperate woodland means less annual rainfall in the summer and is hot in humid but has more rainfall in the fall. This is another example of what a temperate woodland would look like in Katoski Park. This picture was taken right out of Katoski Park. Temperate forest means broad leaved deciduous trees. The two stories I am looking at are A Vendetta by Guy de Maupassant and The Red Room by H. G. Wells. After I have discussed these two stories I will draw a conclusion to show what I have found. She also dresses in man s clothes, this also seems strange because it makes you wonder what she is doing and why she isn t wearing her own clothes. Also the story tells us, The old woman returned home in the evening. That night she slept soundly. This too creates tension because you wonder how she can sleep when she has just killed someone and you therefore feel uncomfortable. The colours used by Guy de Maupassant in A Vendetta create tension too because colours such as black and brown are used. These colours are dark and traditionally associated with death and evil. This creates tension because it makes the reader feel uneasy and wonder what plan the woman will concoct and if it will be evil. During A Vendetta information is revealed gradually. For instance you don t fully understand the woman s plan until the end. This crates tension because it keeps the reader in suspense and wondering what will happen. They are also not entirely sure what she is doing throughout the story. In A Vendetta Guy de Maupassant uses words associated with loneliness such as alone and widow . This creates tension because it makes the woman seem like a victim and vulnerable, therefore creating an uncomfortable and uneasy atmosphere. • 36. Kim Campbell The rise of Kim Campbell as Canada s first female Prime Minister is considered by many to be that of a phenomenon. Webster s Dictionary describes a phenomenon as being something of significant or rare, either fact or event. This can be shown by the rise of Kim Campbell from a local Vancouver School Board Trustee, to becoming Prime Minister of Canada. Of course, this success was dependent on her ability and ambition to succeed in what is still considered in contemporary terms as being a male dominated area of profession. Because she had only received her Bachelor s degree, she was unable to receive tenure, and had to frequently change her places of work, and ultimately became tired of the process. This narrative is eloquently written by Washington Irving, a prolific nineteenth century American writer. The Author sets the story in a village near the Hudson River, along the banks of the Catskill Mountains where Great Britain once held reigns. Irving presents the reader with a story that effectively delivers an abundance of connotations representing the era of its origin. Through the use of characterization, imagery and symbolism, the reader can infer that Washington Irvingis conveying a complex theme of historical transformation in society. Rip Van Winkleis characterized as an ordinary mortal man who is married to Dame Van Winkle. She is infuriated by, his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he [is] bringing upon his family (Irving 32). However Rip s actions towards his family and farm are directly opposite to those of his neighbors; as stated by Irving, he [is] a great favorite among all the good wives of the village (31). Although he is favored by all the villagers who defend him, his peace is not found there, at home. Irving depicts Rip as a man who yearns for tranquility, simplicity and content. On the contrary, Dame is portrayed as a woman who is antagonizing and infuriated. Thus, the two characters can be integrated into the transformation America was going through in the late 1700 s. When they returned they would talk between each other for a few moments. Then, the men met with a third man and stood outside suspiciously chatting before the third man left (Terry v. Ohio). The officer suspected that the men were casing the stores for a stick up or robbery and began to follow the two men (Oyez). Again, the two men met with the third man around the block in front of another store and again conversed. That is when the detective approached the three men, announcing himself as a policeofficer and asking the names of the men (Terry v. Ohio). (Rasio Plc., 2011). Getting this information to the public through advertising happens through the brand website, but on television the advertising is focused on basic prompts that will motivate the audience into believing in the benefits of using the product. One example is the latest UK advert which places stress on the convenience of the product with a line in fairly small print about the plant stanol ester underneath the visual of how easy it can be to help lower cholesterol. The information of stanols is considered secondary in marketing the convenience product and therefore is only likely absorbed by those already interested in the product or the advertising. This process was done through small goals. The Indians didn t have many options. The only options that they were given were either to be killed or to assimilate into white civilization through Indian boarding schools. Richard Pratt, a former military man is a prime example of implementing Indian boarding schools. Indian children were taking from their home reservations to attend off reservation boarding schools. The goals of the boarding schoolwere to kill the Indian, save the man. Indians attending boarding schools were going through an assimilationprocess. The long term goalwas to leave with a white man s image or with white ways.
