This document discusses a New York public health law passed in 2000 that allows pharmacies to sell up to 10 hypodermic needles or syringes to those over 18 and advertise availability, as well as ensuring safe disposal of used needles. It then describes a dataset from 2008-2010 involving pharmacies in high-risk New York City neighborhoods that examines perceptions of public health-mindedness through questions about counseling, vaccinations, and HIV testing referrals. Finally, it proposes next steps of analyzing community attitudes and mapping pharmacies in high-risk areas using additional data.
