The document discusses ERTMSFormalSpecs (EFS), a domain specific language for formalizing ERTMS specifications. EFS aims to model 100% of the ERTMS business logic through requirements analysis, modeling, testing, and visualization. It addresses issues with the natural language ERTMS specifications such as structure, size, completeness and consistency. EFS models requirements as formal representations to assess specifications, enable animation and testing. It integrates with other tools for scenario editing, visualization and comparing outputs to production onboard units. EFS helps analyze proposed changes to specifications and reduce interpretation issues.
Balise LifeCheck: the preventive balise maintenance toolERTMS Solutions
The document describes the Balise Life Check system, which is used to automatically measure and qualify ERTMS balises. It consists of a transmitting/receiving antenna, an electronics control unit, and software. The system transmits energy to power balises and receives signal data, which it analyzes to check parameters like amplitude jitter, frequency, bit rates, and telegram contents against specifications. It detects any issues and can optionally send alerts. The software decodes balise messages and provides numerical and graphical outputs. The system works on both Eurobalise and KVB balises and can help identify problematic areas on tracks.
ERTMS Solutions is specialized in the development of innovative products for the railway signalling world, and for a majority of them compatible with the European railway signalization standard ERTMS/ETCS.
The TrackCircuitLifeCheck is a versatile measurement instrument that facilitates track circuit maintenance and is usable on both diagnostic and commercial trains. Implementation of the TrackCircuitLifeCheck allows extensive assessment of AC Audio frequency track systems such as the UM71 used in the French TVM.
Similar to the BaliseLifeCheck, it is in many ways a lab on wheels that can be embedded in test vehicles allowing the maintenance of AC Circuits trackside systems to become both automated and predictive.
The TrackCircuitLifeCheck, designed and manufactured entirely at ERTMS Solutions, guarantees complete independence from track circuit manufacturers by providing a free-standing tool to test and measure TVM track circuits. In addition, this tool enables exponential growth as the modular approach allows for future expansions without hindrance.

For accident prevention at intersections, it is useful for
drivers to grasp the position of vehicles in blind spots.
This can be achieved without infrastructure if some vehicles
passing near the intersection capture and share live
video of the intersection through inter-vehicle communications.
However, such video streaming requires a congestion
control mechanism. In this paper, aiming to let a driver
grasp the situation at an intersection, we propose a method
to select vehicles that send a video in order to generate a
live bird’s-eye-view video of the intersection. In our method,
each vehicle at an intersection exchanges information with
others, such as the sub-areas of the intersection it captures,
the quality of its video, and its position and speed. Based
on the exchanged information, each vehicle autonomously
judges whether it should send its video or not. Through
simulation with a QualNet simulator, we confirm that our
method achieves a good video arrival rate and video quality
sufficient for practical use.

1) A rail track switching system has been designed to automatically control railway switches and signals from a central monitoring unit using track circuits to detect train positions and monitor safety. The low-cost system uses a microcontroller and DC motors to switch tracks reliably while maintaining safety standards.
2) Sensors including photodiodes and infrared LEDs are used to detect train positions at track switching points and communicate this information to the central monitoring software via a communication line. The software displays train positions and switch statuses.
3) The system can operate automatically based on sensor inputs to switch tracks and avoid collisions, or can be manually controlled from the monitoring software. It provides improved safety over existing systems at a lower cost.
Signalling in railways involves conveying information to loco drivers through visual or audible signals to control train movement. There are two main signalling systems - time interval and space interval. Space interval method divides tracks into blocks and uses fixed signals like semaphore or colour light signals to indicate if a block is occupied or clear. Solid state interlocking (SSI) systems have replaced older relay-based interlocking to reduce costs and improve maintainability through use of electronic components instead of relays.
Bees are flying insects that pollinate flowering plants and produce honey. There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees found worldwide, except in Antarctica. Bees have three body parts - a head, thorax, and abdomen. Certain species like honey bees have a stinger on their abdomen. Bees evolved over 100 million years ago and likely originated in Asia. They play an important ecological role in plant reproduction and food production.

On the first hand it lets us win time, and on the
other, it’s the quality of the work. The integration
tests are so important, as well as the subsequent
analyze on the tests, that we took the important
decision to buy. The tool is now indispensable: we
perform all our tests with it.”

TVM430 maintenance.
19. “Demos and customers’ replies to our requests for
return of experience were already convincing us
that MESEA would be satisfied with ERTMS
Solutions’ work. When we met them for the first
time, we received confirmation, as their answers
are exactly in line with our expectations. For this
delivery, their proactivity is the evidence that we
shall not be disappointed, and we look forward to
use their tools in our vehicles”.

BaliseLifeCheck + TrackCircuitLifeCheck
9/22/2017 19
In MESEA’s case, the BaliseLifeCheck and TrackCircuitLifeCheck enable maintenance automation of Eurobalises,
KVB balises, and TVM430 track circuits.
Two systems shall be installed in dedicated BROOM maintenance vehicles, produced by Socofer, ensuring daily
inspection of all track signaling assets to reduce to the minimum any service interruption on the TGVs.

BaliseLifeCheck
9/22/2017 20
Infrabel faced an issue with a balise located at the exit of their warehouse. Every time a train was leaving the warehouse, the On Board
Unit couldn’t read correctly the balise group and triggered an emergency brake action.
They analyzed the defective balises with their portable balise reader but they didn’t actually detect any apparent issue, as the portable
balise reader concluded both balises were 100% ok.
The client now has data about
the defective balise, as
BaliseLifeCheck enables them
to perform a very detailed and
accuratte diagnosis of the
problem".
Results
On its first try, the BLC helped them discover that one of the
balises of the group was sending out the correct telegram but
had electromagnetic parameters’ issues that could affect the
correct telegram decoding by a train On Board Unit.
The balise electromagnetic parameters are out of the
specifications requested by subset 36 (red lines). For
Eurobalise specialists, the parameter out of bounds was about
central frequency: its value was between 4.44 and 4.42 MHz,
whereas it should be between 4.06 MHz and 4.41 MHz.

In the framework of the CNM project in South of France (Contournement Nîmes-Montpellier), Oc’via Maintenance
chose the BaliseLifeCheck to maintain Eurobalises and KVB balises that equip this 80kms’ new line.
Oc’Via is a project company created by industrial stakeholders to answer the call for tender launched by SNCF
Network. Oc’Via is in charge of the funding of investment costs of the line.
Oc’Via Construction is the company in charge of the design and building of the line in 5 years (2012-2017).
Oc’Via Maintenance is the company in charge of the surveillance, maintenance and renewal programs until 2037
(notably using the BaliseLifeCheck)
“We are happy to start the CNM project using
state-of-the-art preventive maintenance tools
for Eurobalise and KVB maintenance, rather
than sending teams on the tracks to measure
the balises, as it is costly, time-consuming
and – even more important – dangerous for
personal safety.”

“We have seen the results of ERTMS Solutions’ ODASE™
platform on a proof of concept, which didn’t leave room for
doubt. When complex systems must be integrated, this
solution is future proof, agile and cost effective. The contact
with ERTMS Solutions’ team is excellent and easy, which of
course makes it even better, notably during the project
phase, where the ontology will be specified.”

As part of the NExTEO project, Siemens has acquired a testing kit of ERTMS Solutions, to
validate the implementation of ERTMS interoperability protocols.
On February 2016, Siemens France was awarded by SNCF a €186m contract to supply
NExTEO communications-based train control for the central section of RER Line E in Paris.
• A software library FFFISProfibus that provides all the functionality needed to use the
SLL, STL and Application Layer (Subset-058) protocols in your own applications
• A Triple Sniffer that decodes the information, and displays the protocols according to
ERTMS definitions, which allows users to see whether the messages are compatible with
ERTMS specifications

before the entry into service of a line equipped in ETCS level 1 or 2
The BaliseLifeCheck (BLC) and SignalsVisibilityCheck are set up in EM203, Infrabel dedicated ERTMS maintenance
vehicle to reduce the testing and the maintenance phases’ duration.
The Realtime Balise Monitor is a BLC extension that fulfils the mapping of the balises deployed across the
network, monitor their status and reports the information directly to the General Maintenance System. Any
potential (or manifested) problem generates an alarm to trigger the maintenance activity.
26. ERTMSCamcorder will, in the future, be
proposed to ERTMS Solutions’
ERTMSCamCorder customers in a light
version, making use of Imajbox®, Imajing’s
mobile GNSS camera, and its related
software and services, imajview and
imajnet. All images will be hosted in a
private cloud, which will ease the work of
technicians on the field, and externalize the
storage of heavy quantities of data, a type of
competence which is generally not
contemplated by Railway Managers as being
part of their field of competence.

EXPANDIUM
Technical Partnership
9/22/2017 27
Our collaboration started 10 years ago when we established that the biggest challenge with ERTMS implementation
was the difficulty for signaling and telecom departments to work together, despite the obvious link between GSM-R
and ETCS.
Since then, technological synergies between our two companies have been clearly identified. This resulted notably to
the unveiling of a brand new solution designed for ERTMS pre-testing purposes: TestOBU.SIL0. This presentation was
made at the ERTMS UIC World conference held in Brussels on March 1st and 2nd, 2016 (video).
This growing partnership is providing so much added value to our common markets and clients that Expandium
decided to embed ERTMS Solutions’ libraries – Euroradio,TripleFSniffer – in their own packaged solutions.
28. “Thanks to this partnership, SYSTRA Scott Lister is now
able to undertake a validation of clients’ requirements
and design principles at the earliest stage of the V-
cycle, independently from ETCS suppliers. This will
minimize rework in the implementation phase, reduce
the amount of dynamic train tests, and reduce risks
related to supplier’s interoperability.”
