- 2. Emotional Intelligence “An interrelated set of abilities that allow an individual to recognize use and regulate emotion in an efficient and productive manner, thereby allowing effective dealing with the environment”
- 3. Need for change in Organisation Culture Shifting face of workspace: workspace is becoming diverse and as opposed to ‘majority from one race’. International markets need companies to have employees who are adaptable to other culture. Diversity is workspace leads to lightened creativity and productivity
- 4. Roots of prejudice Emotional learning that occur early in life , making reactions hard to eradicate. Power to stereotype : People remember instances which support stereotype, discount instances that challenge it. Subtle form of biases persist : People disown racism but are still bias. e.g. in recruitment and academics
- 5. How to tackle prejudice ? Having a zero tolerance : prevents prejudice , taking actions whenever encountered. Diversity training courses : The change should flow in a top down manner. i.e should start from managers. Encourage people to speak out Make people work towards common goals so as to remove the boundaries betweeen them and promote synergy.
- 6. Group IQ : Sum total of talents and skills of all the members of group. What harms Group’s performance Too eager people : They tend to be controlling and dominating.
