SIME Darby Bhd will be satisified with having only a 51 per cent controlling stake in New Britain Palm Oil
Ltd (NBPOL), which will allow it to secure control of the latter at the shareholder, board and management
levels, says its president and group chief executive Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh. He said the conglomerate
was also willing to allow the Papua New Guinea (PNG) government to raise its stake in NBPOL to 30 per
cent from 18 per cent upon conclusion of its takeover of NBPOL in a deal worth £1.07 billion (RM5.63
billion). The acquisition is expected to be completed by December 19.Sime Darby had on October 9
announced an offer to buy all of NBPOL shares through unit Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd as part of the
requirement to obtain a minimum 51 per cent of the voting rights in the global producer of sustainable
palm oil.
Oil prices are expected to keep sliding well into 2015, held down by weak demand and increased shale
production, the International Energy Agency said Friday, as it maintained its full-year forecast for slow
global consumption growth. Global crude futures slumped on Thursday to lows not seen since September
2010, with London's Brent and US benchmark Texas crude for delivery in December diving well below the
US$80-per-barrel mark.
Mr Burger Sdn Bhd, a Bumiputera company specialising in producing the frozen murtabak raja and
burgers, plans to open 10 new kiosks under the MR Khalifa Burger brand, by year-end. Managing director
Mohd Wahyu Affandy Zainuddin said to date, three MR Khalifa Burger kiosks are operational, that is, in
Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin here, Wakaf Tapai and Kuala Berang in Hulu Terengganu. "The response has
been good with sales averaging between RM300 to RM400 nightly at each of the three kiosks.
Sarawak, with its rich and diverse natural resources and endowments, is on a mission to showcase its
business and industrial potentials as well as tourism attractions to the Japanese business community.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said he was happy to see that the Look East Policy (LEP 2), as the
new driver for the relations between Malaysia and Japan, had outlined priority areas.
The Malaysian economy, which posted robust growth in the first half of the year, is likely to expand at a
slower pace in the second half. Nevertheless, the growth story remains strong, said economists, who
believe that the full-year figures will likely average at 5.9 per cent. A Business Times poll expects activities
during the third quarter from July to September to grow at an average 5.7 per cent versus a year ago.
