 MALAYSIAN shares ended lower on Thursday with the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index slipping 13.7 points to close
at 1,782.18.Some 1.89 billion lots, valued at RM2.23 billion were traded. Gainers numbered 262 while losers
numbered 581.
 Housing affordability, which is based on the ratio of average terraced house price to average household income,
has worsened over the past five years, according to Rahim & Co, Chartered Surveyors Sdn Bhd.In its survey of the
Malaysian property market 2014/2015, the ratio increased from 3.4 in 2009 to 3.6 in 2012 and 2014.“This
essentially means that an average terraced house would cost an average household or family in Malaysia, 3.6 times
its annual gross income
 The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) said the economy will post an 'exceptionally strong' growth at
5.9 per cent in 2014.Executive director Dr Zakariah Abdul Rashid said actual growth remained well above the
'socially efficient level of output' growth at 5.5 per cent per annum.The output gap remained positive during the
year with strong contribution from the external sector.GDP grew by 6.1 per cent in the first three quarters of 2014,
driven by robust private consumption.
 The ringgit ended lower against the US dollar yesterday in line with most other emerging currencies on growing
concerns over the political tension in Greece, dealers said.At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.4970/5000 against
the greenback compared to 3.4960/4980 on Monday.A dealer said China’s yuan, howeve, rose after the
government announced that it would ease restrictions on currency trading by banks from January 1.
 Stock exchange operator Bursa Malaysia Bhd reported a firm set of earnings for the financial year ended Dec 31,
2014, which saw it recording net profit of nearly RM200mil.It said on Thursday its earnings rose 14.5% to
RM198.22mil from RM173.07mil in FY13 while revenue grew at a slower pace of 6% to RM503.75mil from
RM475mil.For the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2014, its revenue jumped 57% to RM53.14mil from RM33.84mil.
Revenue climbed 12.7% to RM128.48mil from RM113.93mil.Earnings per share 10 sen compared with 6.4 sen. It
rewarded shareholders with a dividend of 18 sen a share compared with 16 sen. Despite the uncertain global
market, chief executive officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan said the company delivered a creditable performance
supported by several key initiatives that were undertaken by the exchange in 2014 coupled with the strong
economic fundamentals and domestic reliance.
