The accuracy of latent finger print matching compared to roll and plain finger print
matching is significantly lower due to background noise, poor ridge quality and overlapping
structured noise in latent images. In this paper the proposed algorithm is dictionary-based approach
for automatic segmentation and enhancement towards the goal of achieving “lights out” latent
identifications system. Total variation decomposition model with L1 fidelity regularization in latent
finger print image remove background noise. A coarse to fine strategy is used to improve robustness
and accuracy. It improves the computational efficiency of the algorithm.
FINGERPRINT MATCHING USING HYBRID SHAPE AND ORIENTATION DESCRIPTOR -AN IMPROV...IJCI JOURNAL
Fingerprint recognition is a promising factor for the Biometric Identification and authentication process.
Fingerprints are broadly used for personal identification due to its feasibility, distinctiveness, permanence,
accuracy and acceptability. This paper proposes a way to improve the Equal Error Rate (EER) in
fingerprint matching techniques in the domain of hybrid shape and orientation descriptor. This type of
fingerprint matching domain is popular due to capability of filtering false and strange minutiae pairings.
EER is calculated by using FMR and FNMR to check the performance of proposed technique.

Logo Matching for Document Image Retrieval Using SIFT DescriptorsIJERA Editor
In current trends the logos are playing a vital role in industrial and all commercial applications. Fundamentally the logo is defined as it’s a graphic entity which contains colors textures, shapes and text etc., which is organized in some special visible format. But unfortunately it is very difficult thing to save their brand logos from duplicates. In practical world there are several systems available for logo reorganization and detection with different kinds of requirements. Two dimensional global descriptors are used for logo matching and reorganization. The concept of Shape descriptors based on Shape context and the global descriptors are based on the logo contours. There is an algorithm which is implemented for logo detection is based on partial spatial context and spatial spectral saliency (SSS). The SSS is able to keep away from the confusion effect of background and also speed up the process of logo detection. All such methods are useful only when the logo is visible completely without noise and not subjected to change. We contribute, through this paper, to the design of a novel variation framework able to match and recognize multiple instances of multiple reference logos in image archives. Reference logos and test images are seen as constellations of local features (interest points, regions, etc.) and matched by minimizing an energy function mixing: 1) a fidelity term that measures the quality of feature matching, 2) a neighborhood criterion that captures feature co-occurrence geometry, and 3) a regularization term that controls the smoothness of the matching solution. We also introduce a detection/recognition procedure and study its theoretical consistency

An offline signature recognition and verification system based on neural networkeSAT Journals
Abstract Various techniques are already introduced for personal identification and verification based on different types of biometrics which can be physiological or behavioral. Signatures lies in the category of behavioral biometric which can distort or changed with course of time. Signatures are considered to be most promising authentication method in all legal and financial documents. It is necessary to verify signers and their respective signatures. This paper presents an Offline Signature recognition and verification system(SRVS). In this system signature database of signature images is created, followed by image preprocessing, feature extraction, neural network design and training, and classification of signature as genuine or counterfeit. Keywords: biometrics, neural network design, feature extraction, classification etc.
Latent fingerprints lifted from crime scenes often contain overlapping prints, which are
difficult to separate and match by state-of-the-art fingerprint matchers. The methods that have been
proposed to separate overlapping fingerprints and successful matching previously suffer from limited
accuracy of the estimated orientation field. In this paper, the robustness of overlapping fingerprints
separation is increased, particularly for low quality images. This algorithm reconstructs the
orientation fields of component prints by modeling fingerprint orientation fields. To facilitate this,
orientation cues of component fingerprints are utilized, which are manually marked by fingerprint
examiners. The effectiveness of this model has been evaluated.
A Fast and Accurate Palmprint Identification System based on Consistency Orie...IJTET Journal
Abstract — A palmprint identification system is a relatively most promising physiological biometric approach to identify the person. The numbers of palmprint recognition based biometric system have been successfully applied for real world access to control applications. A typical palmprint identification system identifies a query palmprint and matching it with the template stored in the database and comparing the similarity score with a pre-defined threshold. The Consistency Orientation Pattern (COP) hashing method is implemented in this work to enforce the fast search and to obtain the accurate result. Orientation pattern (OP) is defined as a collection of orientation features at arbitrary positions. The principal palm line is a kind of evident and stable features in palmprint images, and the orientation features in this region are expected to be more consistent than others. Using the orientation and response features extracted by steerable filter and gives an analysis on the consistency of orientation features, and then introduces a method to construct COP using the consistent features. Those features can be used as the indexes to the target template. Because the COP is very stable across the samples of the same subject, the COP hashing method can find the target template quickly. This method can lead to early termination of the searching process.

COMPRESSION BASED FACE RECOGNITION USING TRANSFORM DOMAIN FEATURES FUSED AT M...sipij
The physiological biometric trait face images are used to identify a person effectively. In this paper, we
propose compression based face recognition using transform domain features fused at matching level. The
2D images are converted into 1-D vectors using mean to compress number of pixels. The Fast Fourier
Transform (FFT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) are used to extract features. The low and high
frequency coefficients of DWT are concatenated to obtained final DWT features. The performance
parameters are computed by comparing database and test image features of FFT and DWT using Euclidian
Distance (ED). The performance parameters of FFT and DWT are fused at matching level to obtain better
results. It is observed that the performance of proposed method is better than the existing methods.
Real Time Face Recognition Based on Face Descriptor and Its ApplicationTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
This paper presents a real time face recognition based on face descriptor and its application for door
locking. The face descriptor is represented by both local and global information. The local information, which
is the dominant frequency content of sub-face, is extracted by zoned discrete cosine transforms (DCT). While
the global information, which also is the dominant frequency content and shape information of the whole face,
is extracted by DCT and by Hu-moment. Therefore, face descriptor has rich information about a face image
which tends to provide good performance for real time face recognition. To decrease the dimensional size of
face descriptor, the predictive linear discriminant analysis (PDLDA) is employed and the face classification
is done by kNN. The experimental results show that the proposed real time face recognition provides good
performances which indicated by 98.30%, 21.99%, and 1.8% of accuracy, FPR, and FNR respectively. In
addition, it also needs short computational time (1 second).

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MINUTIAE BASED FINGERPRINT MATCHING ALGORITHMSijcsit
Biometric matching involves finding similarity between fingerprint images. The accuracy and speed of the
matching algorithmdetermines its effectives. This researchaims at comparing two types of matching
algorithms namely(a) matching using global orientation features and (b) matching using minutia triangulation. The comparison is done using accuracy, time and number of similar features. The experiment is conducted on a datasets of 100 candidates using four (4) fingerprints from each candidate. The data is sampled from a mass registration conducted by a reputable organization in Kenya.Theresearch reveals that fingerprint matching based on algorithm (b) performs better in speed with an average of 38.32 milliseconds
as compared to matching based on algorithm (a) with an average of 563.76 milliseconds. On accuracy, algorithm(a) performs better with an average accuracy of 0.142433 as compared to algorithm (b) with an average accuracy score of 0.004202.

Smqt Based Fingerprint Enhancement And Encryption For Border Crossing Securit...theijes
Biometric passport (e-passport) is to prevent the illegitimate entry of traveler into a particular country and border the use of counterfeit documents by more accurate identification of an individual. The electronic passport, as it is sometimes called, represents a bold proposal in the procedure of two new technologies: cryptography authentication protocols and biometrics (face, fingerprints, palm prints and iris). The goal of the adoption of the electronic passport is not only to accelerate processing at border crossings, but also to increase safety measures. Adaptive fingerprint enhancement method is used to enhance the fingerprint image. The term adaptive implies that parameters of the method are automatically adjusted based on the input fingerprint image. The adaptive fingerprint enhancement method comprises five processing blocks. 1) Pre-processing; 2) global analysis; 3) local analysis; and 4) matched filtering; 4) Image segmentation. In the pre-processing and local analysis blocks, a nonlinear dynamic range adjustment method, SMQT is used. These processing blocks yield an improved and new adaptive fingerprint image processing method. . For assuring security cryptography can be used with enhancement technique for encrypting the enhanced image so as to provide additional protection against fake. For this an image encryption approach using stream ciphers based on non linear filter generator along with AES encryption is used here. In this work a novel image encryption scheme using stream cipher algorithm based on nonlinear filter generator is considered. In this work a novel image encryption scheme is proposed based on stream cipher algorithm using pseudorandom generator with filtering function. This algorithm makes it possible to cipher and decipher images by guaranteeing a maximum security. The proposed cryptosystem is based on the use the linear feedback shift register (LFSR) with large secret key filtered by resilient function whose resiliency order, algebraic degree and nonlinearity attain Siegenthaler’s and Sarkar, al.’s bounds. This scheme is simple and highly efficient.
Fingerprint Image Compression using Sparse Representation and Enhancement wit...Editor IJCATR
A technique for enhancing decompressed fingerprint image using Wiener2 filter is proposed. First compression is done by sparse representation. Compression of fingerprint is necessary for reducing the memory consumption and efficient transfer of fingerprint images. This is very essential for the application which includes access control and forensics. So the fingerprint image is compressed using sparse representation. In this technique, first dictionary is constructed for patches of fingerprint images. Then a fingerprint is selected and the coefficients are obtained and encoded. Thus the compressed fingerprint is obtained. But when the fingerprint is reconstructed, it is affected by noise. So Wiener2 filter is used to filter the noise in the image. The ridge and bifurcation count is extracted from decompressed and enhanced fingerprints. The experiment result shows that the enhanced fingerprint image preserves more bifurcation than decompressed fingerprint image. The future analysis can be considered for preserving ridges.
This paper introduces the implementation of fingerprint matching Minutiae Algorithm for Fingerprint
Matching. These algorithm increases the reliability accuracy of the fingerprint matching. The proposed method was
evaluated by means of experiment conducted on the FVC2002, FVC2004 database. Experimental results confirm
that the taking time of the fingerprint image matching is very less than the other methods. This algorithm is very
effective algorithm for the identification of fingerprint image.
Quality Prediction in Fingerprint CompressionIJTET Journal
A new algorithm for fingerprint compression based on sparse representation is introduced. At first, dictionary is constructed by sparse combination of set of fingerprint patches. Designing dictionaries can be done by either selecting one from a prespecified set or adapting a dictionary to a set of training signals. In this paper, we use K-SVD algorithm to construct dictionary. After computation of dictionary, the image gets quantized, filtered and encoded. The resultant image obtained may be of three qualities: Good, Bad and Ugly (GBU problem). In this paper, we overcome the GBU problem by prediction the quality of image.

Osseo-integrated dental implants have been widely used for the rehabilitation of tooth loss. Although dental implants
are considered an available treatment in the paradigm shift from traditional dental therapies, such as fixed dental bridges and
removable dentures, the fundamental problems must be overcome prior to their clinical use in young patients who are still
undergoing jawbone growth. A bio-engineered functional bio-hybrid implant that is combined with adult-derived periodontal
tissue and attached with bone tissue can act as a substitute for cementum. This bio-hybrid implant was successfully engrafted
and it restored physiological function, including bone remodelling, regeneration and appropriate responsiveness to noxious
stimuli. Thus, this article reviews the functional bio-hybrid implant’s potential for clinical use as a next-generation dental
implant using adult-derived tissues.

A NEW DATA ENCODER AND DECODER SCHEME FOR NETWORK ON CHIPEditor IJMTER
System-on-chip (soc) based system has so many disadvantages in power-dissipation as
well as clock rate while the data transfer from one system to another system in on-chip. At the same
time, a higher operated system does not support the lower operated bus network for data transfer.
However an alternative scheme is proposed for high speed data transfer. But this scheme is limited to
SOCs. Unlike soc, network-on-chip (NOC) has so many advantages for data transfer. It has a special
feature to transfer the data in on-chip named as transitional encoder. Its operation is based on input
transitions. At the same time it supports systems which are higher operated frequencies. In this
project, a low-power encoding scheme is proposed. The proposed system yields lower dynamic
power dissipation due to the reduction of switching activity and coupling switching activity when
compared to existing system. Even-though many factors which is based on power dissipation, the
dynamic power dissipation is only considerable for reasonable advantage. The proposed system is
synthesized using quartus II 9.1 software. Besides, the proposed system will be extended up to
interlink PE communication with help of routers and PE’s which are performed by various
operations. To implement this system in real NOC’s contains the proposed encoders and decoders for
data transfer with regular traffic scenarios should be considered.

Analysis of VoIP Traffic in WiMAX EnvironmentEditor IJMTER
Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is currently one of the
hottest technologies in wireless communication. It is a standard based on the IEEE 802.16 wireless
technology that provides a very high throughput broadband connections over long distances. In
parallel, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a new technology which provides access to voice
communication over internet protocol and hence it is becomes an alternative to public switched
telephone networks (PSTN) due to its capability of transmission of voice as packets over IP
networks. A lot of research has been done in analyzing the performances of VoIP traffic over
WiMAX network. In this paper we review the analysis carried out by several authors for the most
common VoIP codec’s which are G.711, G.723.1 and G.729 over a WiMAX network using various
service classes. The objective is to compare the results for different types of service classes with
respect to the QoS parameters such as throughput, average delay and average jitter.
A Hybrid Cloud Approach for Secure Authorized De-DuplicationEditor IJMTER
The cloud backup is used for the personal storage of the people in terms of reducing the
mainlining process and managing the structure and storage space managing process. The challenging
process is the deduplication process in both the local and global backup de-duplications. In the prior
work they only provide the local storage de-duplication or vice versa global storage de-duplication in
terms of improving the storage capacity and the processing time. In this paper, the proposed system
is called as the ALG- Dedupe. It means the Application aware Local-Global Source De-duplication
proposed system to provide the efficient de-duplication process. It can provide the efficient deduplication process with the low system load, shortened backup window, and increased power
efficiency in the user’s personal storage. In the proposed system the large data is partitioned into
smaller part which is called as chunks of data. Here the data may contain the redundancy it will be
avoided before storing into the storage area.
Aging protocols that could incapacitate the InternetEditor IJMTER
The biggest threat to the Internet is the fact that it was never really designed. For e.g., the
BGP protocol is used by Internet routers to exchange information about changes to the Internet's
network topologies. However, it also is among the most fundamentally broken; as Internet routing
information can be poisoned with bogus routing information. Instead, it evolved in fits and start,
thanks to various protocols that have been cobbled together to fulfill the needs of the moment. Few
of protocols from them were designed with security in mind. or if they were sported no more than
was needed to keep out a nosy neighbor, not a malicious attacker. The result is a welter of aging
protocols susceptible to exploit on an Internet scale. Here are six Internet protocols that could stand
to be replaced sooner rather than later or are (mercifully) on the way out.

A CAR POOLING MODEL WITH CMGV AND CMGNV STOCHASTIC VEHICLE TRAVEL TIMESEditor IJMTER
Carpooling (also car-sharing, ride-sharing, lift-sharing), is the sharing of car journeys so
that more than one person travels in a car. It helps to resolve a variety of problems that continue to
plague urban areas, ranging from energy demands and traffic congestion to environmental pollution.
Most of the existing method used stochastic disturbances arising from variations in vehicle travel
times for carpooling. However it doesn’t deal with the unmet demand with uncertain demand of the
vehicle for car pooling. To deal with this the proposed system uses Chance constrained
formulation/Programming (CCP) approach of the problem with stochastic demand and travel time
parameters, under mild assumptions on the distribution of stochastic parameters; and relates it with a
robust optimization approach. Since real problem sizes can be large, it could be difficult to find
optimal solutions within a reasonable period of time. Therefore solution algorithm using tabu
heuristic solution approach is developed to solve the model. Therefore, we constructed a stochastic
carpooling model that considers the in- fluence of stochastic travel times. The model is formulated as
an integer multiple commodity network flow problem. Since real problem sizes can be large, it could
be difficult to find optimal solutions within a reasonable period of time.
Sustainable Construction With Foam Concrete As A Green Green Building MaterialEditor IJMTER
A green building is an environmentally sustainable building, designed, constructed and
operated to minimise the total environmental impacts. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary
greenhouse gas emitted through human activities. It is claimed that 5% of the world’s carbon dioxide
emission is attributed to cement industry, which is the vital constituent of concrete. Due to the
significant contribution to the environmental pollution, there is a need for finding an optimal solution
along with satisfying the civil construction needs. Apart from normal concrete bricks, a clay brick,
Foam concrete is a new innovative technology for sustainable building and civil construction which
fulfills the criteria of being a Green Material. This paper concludes that Foam Concrete can be an
effective sustainable material for construction and also focuses on the cost effectiveness in using
Foam Concrete as a building material in replacement with Clay Brick or other bricks.

Textual Data Partitioning with Relationship and Discriminative AnalysisEditor IJMTER
Data partitioning methods are used to partition the data values with similarity. Similarity
measures are used to estimate transaction relationships. Hierarchical clustering model produces tree
structured results. Partitioned clustering produces results in grid format. Text documents are
unstructured data values with high dimensional attributes. Document clustering group ups unlabeled text
documents into meaningful clusters. Traditional clustering methods require cluster count (K) for the
document grouping process. Clustering accuracy degrades drastically with reference to the unsuitable
cluster count.
Textual data elements are divided into two types’ discriminative words and nondiscriminative
words. Only discriminative words are useful for grouping documents. The involvement of
nondiscriminative words confuses the clustering process and leads to poor clustering solution in return.
A variation inference algorithm is used to infer the document collection structure and partition of
document words at the same time. Dirichlet Process Mixture (DPM) model is used to partition
documents. DPM clustering model uses both the data likelihood and the clustering property of the
Dirichlet Process (DP). Dirichlet Process Mixture Model for Feature Partition (DPMFP) is used to
discover the latent cluster structure based on the DPM model. DPMFP clustering is performed without
requiring the number of clusters as input.
Document labels are used to estimate the discriminative word identification process. Concept
relationships are analyzed with Ontology support. Semantic weight model is used for the document
similarity analysis. The system improves the scalability with the support of labels and concept relations
for dimensionality reduction process.

SURVEY OF TRUST BASED BLUETOOTH AUTHENTICATION FOR MOBILE DEVICEEditor IJMTER
Practical requirements for securely demonstrating identities between two handheld
devices are an important concern. The adversary can inject a Man-In- The-Middle (MITM) attack to
intrude the protocol. Protocols that employ secret keys require the devices to share private
information in advance, in which it is not feasible in the above scenario. Apart from insecurely
typing passwords into handheld devices or comparing long hexadecimal keys displayed on the
devices’ screen, many other human-verifiable protocols have been proposed in the literature to solve
the problem. Unfortunately, most of these schemes are unsalable to more users. Even when there are
only three entities attempt to agree a session key, these protocols need to be rerun for three times.
So, in the existing method a bipartite and a tripartite authentication protocol is presented using a
temporary confidential channel. Besides, further extend the system into a transitive authentication
protocol that allows multiple handheld devices to establish a conference key securely and efficiently.
But this method detects only the outsider attacks. Method does not consider the insider attacks. So,
in the proposed method trust score based method is introduced which computes the trust values for
the nodes and provide the security. The trust score is computed has a positive influence on the
confidence with which an entity conducts transactions with that node. Network the behavior of the
node will be monitored periodically and its trust value is also updated .So depending on the behavior
of the node in the network trust relation will be established between two nodes.
GLAUCOMA is a chronic eye disease that can damage optic nerve. According to WHO It
is the second leading cause of blindness, and is predicted to affect around 80 million people by 2020.
Development of the disease leads to loss of vision, which occurs increasingly over a long period of
time. As the symptoms only occur when the disease is quite advanced so that glaucoma is called the
silent thief of sight. Glaucoma cannot be cured, but its development can be slowed down by
treatment. Therefore, detecting glaucoma in time is critical. However, many glaucoma patients are
unaware of the disease until it has reached its advanced stage. In this paper, some manual and
automatic methods are discussed to detect glaucoma. Manual analysis of the eye is time consuming
and the accuracy of the parameter measurements also varies with different clinicians. To overcome
these problems with manual analysis, the objective of this survey is to introduce a method to
automatically analyze the ultrasound images of the eye. Automatic analysis of this disease is much
more effective than manual analysis.

the advantages of the traditional solution (voltage boost and buck functions in a single stage,
continuous input current, and improved reliability). Moreover, as compared to the conventional qZSI,
the proposed solution reduces the shoot-through duty cycle by over 30% at the same voltage boost

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN CONDENSING HEAT EXCHANGERS...ssuser7dcef0
Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

Abstract— The accuracy of latent finger print matching compared to roll and plain finger print
matching is significantly lower due to background noise, poor ridge quality and overlapping
structured noise in latent images.
Keywords- Latent finger print, image decomposition, ROI, segmentation, ridge enhancement.
I. INTRODUCTION
Latent fingerprints refer to fingerprints got from the surfaces of objects acknowledgeable touched
or handled by a person typically at crime scenes. Compared to rolled and plain finger prints, latent
finger print is typically poor in quality and complex background noise. Due to this problem latent
finger print accuracy is much lower.
The main challenging problem in latent identification system is how to automatically extract
reliable features in latent, especially latent with poor quality. The various features are proposed like
ROI (Region of Interest), singular points and minutiae detection.
The human factor issue in latent examinations has raised some reliability and repeatability.
Brandon Mayfield case is involved to identify mistakes based on latent matching. The lights out
capability develop a fully automatic latent feature extraction module. This is highly desirable to
(i) Increase the throughput of latent matching systems,
(ii) Improve repeatability of latent feature extraction and,
(iii) Increase the compatibility
Between features extracted in the latents and features extracted in reference images.

Figure.1Three types of fingerprint images. (a) Rolled fingerprint, (b) plain fingerprint, (c) latent fingerprint with
foreground (friction ridge pattern) highlighted by red outline. Notice the presence of different types of noise and
distortion in (c).
Commonly rolled/plain print matching or latent matching typically contains a number of
modules, including region of interest (ROI) Segmentation (separating friction ridge from
background), enhancement, feature extraction, and matching.
To address the two main difficulties in latent fingerprint matching, namely presence of
structured noise and poor quality of ridge structure, we propose a dictionary-based segmentation and
enhancement of latent fingerprint. To remove the structured noise, the total-variation model with L1
fidelity regularization is used to decompose a latent into a texture part and a cartoon part. The main
contributions of this paper are as follows:
1. Ridge structure dictionary is proposed for latent segmentation and enhancement. The
dictionary is learnt from high quality fingerprint patches.
2. The ridge quality of a patch is defined as the structural similarity between the patch and its
reconstruction from the learnt ridge structure dictionary. Orientation and frequency fields of a
patch are estimated from its reconstruction.
3. To balance robustness and accuracy, a coarse to fine strategy is proposed which uses
dictionaries at two levels of resolution (64 × 64 and 32× 32).
4. The proposed segmentation and enhancement algorithms outperform published algorithms
and can also significantly boost the performance of a state of the-art commercial latent
matcher on two latent databases (NIST SD27 and WVU DB).
II. RELATED WORK
Various researches have been reported in this related work based on segmentation and
enhancement of latent finger print [2]-[6]. The idea of “Latent Fingerprint Enhancement via Robust
Orientation Field Estimation” demonstrates the improvement of the automatic match accuracy and it
is effective which help to find a correct orientation for latent fingerprint algorithm. [1].Hence it
improved the performance of the orientation field.
The Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) improves the evaluation of the enhancement
algorithm. The STFT analyses consider the improvement only in matching the accuracy of the poor
quality print [15]. It uses some set of data base images for analysis purposes, which shows 17% of
improvement in recognition rate.
The Adaptive Directional Total Variation (ADTV) is derived for the latent fingerprint
segmentation. It gives better accuracy in segmentation and enhancement process. Hence it increases
the performance of the latent fingerprint feature detection and matching.

For image segmentation and estimation of fingerprint by ridge orientation a systematic
method is used [2]. Since the ridge structure is taken by using the Gabor filter method, which
improves the matching performance. This systematic method automatically removes the broken
ridge. Thus it provides the accuracy in the minutiae detection.
Some of the systematic methods are used for computation of the directional field and singular
point of the fingerprint. By using the averaged square gradient and singular-point-extraction the error
rate of singular point is improved for the purposes of detecting the low quality fingerprint.
The K-mean Singular Value Decomposition (K-SVD) is used for adaptive dictionaries to
achieve the spares single representation [4]. The problem of the scalability in K-SVD is more
complement so it can be improved in future.
Latent fingerprint enhancement algorithm is used for finding the region of interest (ROI) and
Singular Point (SP) [1]. It improves the accuracy matching for fingerprint which obtains the multiple
orientation elements for each image block.
III. PROPOSED ALGORITHM
While current automated fingerprint identification systems have achieved high accuracy in
matching rolled/plain prints, latent matching still remains to be a challenging problem and requires
much human intervention. The goal of this work is to achieve accurate latent segmentation, which is
an essential step towards achieving automatic latent identification. Existing fingerprint segmentation
algorithms performs poorly on latent prints, as they are mostly based on the assumptions that are
only applicable for rolled/plain fingerprints.
However, the proposed algorithm still does not work well on very poor quality latent
fingerprint images. Latent fingerprints found at crime scenes provide crucial evidence to law
enforcement agencies. The latents are typically searched against a large fingerprint database which is
the collection of rolled/plain fingerprints of previously apprehended criminals. Due to the poor
quality of the latents, latent examiners perform manual feature markup and
Visual verification between the latent and the candidate fingerprints from the database.
The latent finger print segmentation and enhancement consists of the following steps:
(i) Latent decomposition
(ii) Coarse level estimation of quality map and orientation and frequency fields.
(iii) Fine level estimation of quality map and orientation and frequency fields.
(iv) Segmentation and enhancement.
A “Lights-Out” mode for latent identification is desired to reduce the burden on latent examiners
and to introduce a level of consistency in fingerprint matching, particularly in searching ever
growing fingerprint database.
The proposed module latent matching or search is still a challenging problem due to presence of
complex background noise and poor quality of friction ridge structure in many latents proposed an
automatic latent segmentation and enhancement algorithm based on image decomposition and coarse
to fine ridge structure dictionaries. The two different latent fingerprint databases, NIST SD27 and
WVU DB, in conjunction with three different COTS matchers show that the proposed algorithm is

able to improve the performance of two COTS ten print matchers and can even boost the
performance of a state-of-the-art latent matcher by weighted match score fusion. However, the
proposed algorithm still does not work well on very poor quality latent fingerprint images.
3.1. Algorithm Overview
The proposed algorithm consists of an off-line dictionary learning stage and on-line stage for
segmentation and enhancement. In the off-line stage, two types of dictionaries are learnt:
i) a coarse-level dictionary with patch size of 64 × 64 pixels which is used for coarse estimation of
ridge quality map, orientation and frequency fields, and
ii) 16 fine-level dictionaries with patch size of 32 ×32pixels which are used for fine estimation of
ridge quality map, and orientation and frequency fields computation;
Given the dictionaries, on-line latent segmentation and enhancement consists of the following
steps:
3.1.1. Latent decomposition:
Input latent is decomposed into cartoon and texture images via local total variations, the
cartoon image is discarded. The relative reduction rate before and after filtering the image with the
low-pass filter measures the local oscillatory behavior which is given by
ߣߪሺݔሻ =
்ఙሺሻሺ௫ሻି ்ఙሺఙ∗ሻሺ௫ሻ
்ఙሺሻሺ௫ሻ
where, Lσ is an σ-sized low-pass filter, x belongs to the cartoon part. The relative reduction rate is
ߣߪሺݔሻ
3.1.2. Coarse level estimation of quality map and orientation and frequency fields.
The texture image is divided into overlapping patches of size 64 × 64 pixels. The sparse
representation of p can be obtained by solving the following optimization problem using orthogonal
matching pursuit. The approximation can be calculated as,ෝ= ܦ௦
α , where α is given by
α = ሺܦ௦
்
ܦ௦
ሻିଵ
ܦ௦
்
. The residual vector can be calculated as r(p) = p - ̂ = p - ܦ௦
்
α'
3.1.3. Fine level estimation of quality map and orientation and frequency fields.
The texture image is divided into overlapping patches of size 32 × 32 pixels. Each patch has
32 ×16 or 16 ×32 overlapping pixels with each of its four connected neighboring blocks. For each
patch, the coarse ridge orientation value is first used to index the corresponding fine-level dictionary.

V. ARCHITECTURAL DIAGRAM
The analysis of Image decomposition ROI segmentation and enhancement using coarse to
fine strategy to increase accuracy of latent finger print image. The overview of proposed latent
segmentation and enhancement architecture is been shown in fig.2
The latent finger print image is been acquired. Then image decomposition method is used to get
the output as textured image. Coarse to fine strategy is used to estimate texture image.
Dictionary construction method using this estimation consists of two types 1. coarse and 2. fine
strategy.
Initially the off-line coarse dictionary construction is used and the finger print image is acquired.
The path extraction method is applied get training samples of image the finally dictionary learning
method is applied to get the outcomes of dictionary elements. The data are been sent to coarse level
and quality map, orientation and frequency field are estimated in it.
Figure.2 Proposed Latent Segmentation and enhancement architecture
Then apply the same process for the off-line fine dictionary. The off-line fine dictionary
construction is used and the finger print image is acquired. The path extraction method is applied get
training samples of image the finally dictionary learning method is applied to get the outcomes of
dictionary elements. The data are been sent to coarse level and quality map, orientation and
frequency field are estimated in it.
The result of latent segmentation and enhancement are derived by combining the coarse
estimation and fine estimation which are represented as ROI segmentation.

VI. CONCLUSION
The new method has been proposed to improve the computational efficiency of the algorithm.
A coarse to fine strategy is used to improve robustness and accuracy. The latent finger print
matching compared to roll and plain finger print matching, accuracy is significantly lower due to
background noise, poor ridge quality and overlapping structured noise in latent images. In this paper
the proposed algorithm is dictionary-based approach for automatic segmentation and enhancement
towards the goal of achieving “lights out” latent identifications system. Obtaining the ROI
segmentation and enhancement through coarse to fine ridge strategy.
