This document provides a week's worth of home learning materials for Year 4 students. It includes instructions for daily spelling and grammar practice, writing assignments like creating emotion sentences and writing instructions, and a reading comprehension activity. Students are encouraged to continue their learning at home and contact teachers if they need any help. A variety of engaging activities are outlined to keep students practicing important English skills while schools are closed.

7. Emotion (comma) sentences
Today we will be focusing on this specific sentence type.
By adding an emotions to the beginning of your sentence you are enticing the
reader in and also giving them a feel for how it is to be in that situation.
Remember, the comma is REALLY important and you need to make sure that you
are including this in you sentence.

16. Homophones
◦ These words all sound the same, but they are spelt differently, and have different
meanings.

17. ‘there’ refers to a place or position.
The children are playing over there.
◦ There is an aeroplane in the sky.

18. ‘their’ is a possessive adjective. This means it shows ownership
or belonging.
Their lunch was very tasty.
The children are wearing their school uniform.

19. ‘they’re’ is a contraction. This means it is a shorter way of saying
‘they are’.
They’re playing a game together.
They’re running around the track.

An appositive add additional information about the noun. For example: Miss Rickwood, a Year 4 teacher, works
at Ashcombe primary school.
‘a Year 4 teacher’ is the appositive as it adds additional information about Miss Rickwood.

If you put something different it doesn’t mean that your answer is wrong. If you’re unsure
ask an adult to check this over for you.

Introduction: Here you should write a few sentences explaining why
someone should buy your product. Questions are useful here.

list EVERYTHING that the
person will need to complete
these instruction. You may wish
to separate this into ingredients
and equipment to make it simple
for the reader to follow.

30. Method: This is where you explain step-by-step how to make your product.
You’ll notice that these are numbered and relatively short! You need to
make this as simple as you can for your reader.
You’ll also notice that fronted
adverbials are being used such as:
firstly, next, secondly etc.
Remember to use a comma after
your fronted adverbial.
