This document discusses stress, which refers to the degree of loudness given to some syllables in relation to others. It defines stress as louder volume, longer duration, and higher pitch. There are three levels of stress: unstressed, primary stress, and secondary stress. Derivational suffixes can form new words from existing words, and some suffixes affect the placement of stress in derived words while others do not. Examples are provided to illustrate how suffixes can change or not change the stressed syllable of base words.
