Gene Theory classifies films into a like category with multiple that marry similar attributes such as filming techniques, narrative, form, or content which can class them together defined as a “type”. They have proven their effectiveness in categorizing bodies of work providing a sneak peek to the audience warning them of what lies ahead in choosing to view a particular film prior to watching. Goodykoontz, Jacobs, Meetze, & Pritz (2019) define a genre as a “category or type of something that is recognizable by shared characteristics with others of its type “(3.1). Genres distinguish work from other similar works and are effectively useful in doing so. In film, we are familiar with genre categories such as horror, science-fiction, romance, or drama, and some can be known to have cross genres. Every film has a purpose, a story to tell, which will determine the genres and subgenres explored to relay the overall message one attempts to transfer to each viewer through their eyes. I will move to define the genres of this film and showcase its identification with the horror genre.
The Silence of the Lambs, written by Ted Tally starring Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Scott Glenn and Ted Levine; directed by Jonathan Demme and released in 1991. The story begins with Clarice Starling, FBI, seeking the assistance of an incarcerated cannibalistic psychiatric doctor (Hannibal Lecter) to capture a serial killer with an appetite for skinning and mutilating female victims.
In summary of the plot, Lecter minimizes the FBI’s exposure while maximizing on the partnership benefits embracing his own gratification of cannibalism and leading Agent Starling to the success, she longed for in capturing her suspect and saving the life of the latest female hostage. Many scenes crossed genres as Lecter displays a natural evolving love for Staring that commands attention and drives the result of her saving the captured victim. The action in this film comes in the form of multiple efforts simultaneously being present to achieve capturing the active serial killer. The effects on the audience range from fear, to the suspense of the love story developing with Dr. Lecter having an intriguing interest in Starling; understanding that all of the smaller instances marry to support a common effort and eventually meet the goal of telling the story of a horrific serial killer.
Lecter’s mental madness allows for a genre crossing co-mingling with romance as his mannerisms have a décor of passion and love. Lecter was treated as a guest in prison; he was served with high profile meals of delicacy with a decorum indicative of a dining room setting with a full place setting inclusive of knives. There’s an act of passion displayed as he slices his steak into precise cuts and ever so gracefully partakes in devouring it in its rarely prepared form. ...

The most serious pieces of this fiction arise from speculation about what may happen if science makes an extraordinary discovery. Science fiction is a subdivision of fantastic literature which employs science or rationalism to create an appearance of plausibility. Science fiction is a genre of fiction about imaginative fantasy and science technologies. Of all these explanations above, Science fiction movies has taken a great part in the movie industry. Some of them are “Lucy” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy” film. There are contrast in between them such as storyline, settings, characteristic of characters and also moral lessons. This particular paragraph will be reviewing on the description storyline describe on both of the movie. “Lucy” film brings about an ordinary girl with a normal lifestyle. Unfortunately, she’s involved with the wrong friend which later changes her life entirely such as obtaining superpowers with the drugs inside her. The other movie which is “Guardians Of The Galaxy” tells a story about how they protect the galaxy from being destroy and that they met lots of different people from different planets. The difference in
- 3. here is that “Lucy” is actually a plot about human powers that are unlocked within from a human capabilities while the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” is actually a group of different people came along together and form a team to protect the universe using weapons and marksman skills. This particular paragraph will be discussing on the settings of both the movie. The settings of both movies takes place in a different environment of each other, which “Lucy” the movie was filmed in Earth, the place where we human stay while “Guardians Of The Galaxy” was filmed in galaxy. There is a big difference between the two of this place which are clearly different space from each other. This particular paragraph will be stating on the characteristic of the characters. The characteristic of the main character, Lucy in the “Lucy” movie shows a strong-will woman and actually are able to fight against the fear of her enemy. While on the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” side, the main character, Peter Quill is a strong guy with incredible gun skill while also a kind-hearted guy in the inside when he decided to hand in the orb which could destroy the whole universe if it falls into the wrong hands to the Nova Corp. The difference in characteristic is that Lucy is more of a girl whose destiny are random strike upon while Peter Quill is
- 4. actually destined to protect the galaxy with his skills which later met up with great teammates. Finally, the moral lessons given in both movies are different from each other too. The moral lessons in the movie “Lucy” tells about that there are still lots of things to learn in our universe and also to be careful in dealing with new friends or partners. For example, Lucy has thought wrong about Harry, a guy she met in a pub, to be a good friend of hers. Eventually, it turns out to be that he is a drug dealer which leads Lucy’s life a big change. The next movie which is “Guardians Of The Galaxy” tells a moral lesson about that we should not judge too quick by a person’s behavior. For example, Peter Quill started as a thief whom steal precious things and sell to dealers but in the end he is actually a good guy which he has also save the universe from being destroyed by the villians.
